Aicus, Closing the downloader is fine. The reason you had to redownload all 225k files was because the gw2.dat was corrupted by the power loss you experienced. Closing the downloader will save the files properly then exit.

Sure, at my upload speed it will arrive in 34 hours.
On a more serious note perhaps you could find a torrent site with the file that would offer a more stable form to get the completed file.

Hi MohawkYeah.2178,
Can you check your configuration on your router for an option called SPI Firewall it may be named similar to this like Advanced Firewall, Stateful Firewall, SPI etc. If you have any of these options try disabling them for testing.
If the problem with Guildwars2 stops after this then the problem is because the built in Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall is blocking key packets from your GuildWars2 Client to the ArenaNet Login servers.
If this is true then possible next steps are:
1. Leave SPI disabled.
2. Check for a newer updated firmware for your router, perhaps it may resolve this issue.
3. Research custom firmwares available for your router model such as DD-WRT, Tomato, OpenWRT etc.
4. Buy a new Router, perhaps a different brand will implement SPI differently.
Good luck,
Nitro.

The problem is caused by all the game files (all 225k of them) are stored in a single .dat file. This means when the Gw2.dat file becomes corrupted (like it would if your PC lost power as the file was being modified) then the only way the game downloader knows to repair it is to delete it and re-download it.
Its a silly way to store a large amount of files and I am surprised its even like this. You could expect this level of quality from a new small business starting their first game, but not from a renowned company thats invested millions into the gaming industry. ArenaNet should know better than this, not even Guild Wars 1 uses this method.
What I have done to fix this issue personally for me, is to back up the Gw2.dat file once downloaded then if I ever have to download the entire game again for whatever reason, I just stop the downloader and copy/paste the backup overwriting any other Gw2.dat file in my guild wars folder. After that I start the game again and it usually only has roughly less that 1k files left to download.
With the start of each month I create a new back up in a new folder label for that month that way I can roll back to specific months if needed. This also helps keep my backup up-to-date with the latest patches and monthly add-ons.
you can also buy the game on disc which will leave you just shy of 70k files to update instead of 225k.

The Installer is very basic in the terms that it will simply contact the GW2 servers and download all the required files. It is not till after the game is installed where checks are made on hardware.
The problem Cristian.8976 is facing is that something is blocking communication between the PC and the Download Server, wether this is an Anti-Virus, Firewall, Blocked Ports, Routing Issue or Access Restrictions on the network is why the Cristian.8976 is facing this problem.

I would agree that the processor is most likely the cause of the low FPS, however it could be a combination of the CPU and GPU.
The GTX295 is a Dual-GPU graphics card which requires SLI to be enabled.
SLI and Guild Wars 2 are still a bit flaky judging from report from other members of the forums with similar dual-GPU cards.
P.S. nice gpu, its an awesome card, I traded mines over to a friend (I had 2 of them). They gave me fun times

I too are having problems with the Target closest enemy option. I am usually in mid battle and press my set key bind and end up fighting with a Moa Bird that is out of range instead of the group that was originally attacking me. This can be very frustrating.

Hi Gerke,
The authenticator is combined with the GEOIP Verification software by default meaning that you’ll only be asked to authenticate with Guild Wars when they cannot verify who you are. For example, if you lived in france but suddenly tried to log in from belgium then you would be asked for your authenticator code.

don’t set rendersmapling in-game to “supersample” a GTX580 just can’t handle it and the quality difference is absolutely minimal – not worth it, to make it work 4 times harder
This is not true, I have the GTX 480 and i run with vsync enabled 60fps in PVE with rendering set to supersample. it does make a difference, I have a very smooth and crisp looking game now.
Settings like Reflections and Shadows are best on their lowest setting or disabled for maximum performance, also Shaders will put a bigger hit on the GPU that supersampling will.

Ecidemon — here is a screenshot from MSI Afterburner
Hi Propeller,
In the screen shot you can clearly see that the GPU is getting hotter that 100c (as shown by the green graph line maxing out at the top of the graph) as the graph only goes to 100c you may actually be running at higher tempperatures.
This is an issue as usually after the 100c mark graphics card thermal protection activates to protect the card. This usually means under-clocking the graphics card to throttle its speed and to lower its temperatures. If this is what has happened then it would explain the 8-12fps in game.
the 5900 series is a few generation old now, it may be a good idea to have a look over you graphics card and perhaps apply some time into maintenance (i.e. Apply new thermal paste / pads, clean heatsink and fans, verify fans are fully operational. You could also create a custom fan profile in afterburner to apply more aggressive fan speeds to help keep temperatures under control.)
I hope this is helps you, good luck.

Re-posted as per moderators advice. Please note the IP was outdated, and even if it was not I personally would not consider it sensitive information (its called a Public IP for a reason).
“Hi Zaken,
Thanks for your response. My IP is dynamically assigned by my Internet Provider, it only changes once my hardware either loses connection, disconnects or is powered off and on again.
My Router runs the open source Tomato project firmware and it tells me within the status page what my current IP details are, this generally includes the private ip segment in use and the current external public IP assigned to the WAN interface (see attached image for confirmation).
The status page also keeps track of the connection details, My IP was the same for 6 days and 20 hours. I restarted my router, it gained a new public IP address and authentication still was not present on the website or the client.
Due to this I don’t believe that the authentication is based on IP address and therefor leads me to believe there may be a bug involved.”

HI,
After realising that my game client wasn’t asking for my 6 digit authenticator code I got a little worried. At first I thought perhaps GW2 used a method to track members so that only one authentication was required per IP and since my IP had not changed in the last few days I waited, I am fairly confident about my password/security choices even if authenticator was broken so I wasn’t too stressed.
Today I tried unlinking my Authenticator after my IP changed and I still wasn’t asked for any authentication.
Upon removal I re-linked a new authenticator and noticed that the QR Code Scans are still invalid! (Thats been a while now that they have been broken/overlooked). So I manually typed the code instead into my authenticator and proceeded to get a successfull message from the website.
I then re-tested the login for both the game client and this website and both still did not ask me to provide any authentication codes.
In my opinion something is broken and it would be nice if this could be remedied as soon as possible as this is a potential security problem since email verification is automaticall disabled upon linking of the authenticator which is currently not working. This effectively Lowers account security rather than increase it.
thanks for you support.

I’m sorry if this is not the correct forum section, although I believe my problem relates to my account.
I am currently working on the special event achievements and I seem to be confused by my current results.
as you can see in the attached screenshot I have completed 4 halloween achievements, however according to my “Emissary of the mad king” achievement I have only completed 3? Is this correct?
Secondly my “It’s a Mad Kings World” achievement says 3/4 realms however I have visited all 4 ( Labyrinth, Lunatics, Rumble, and Clock Tower) and played several hours on all. What am I not doing that prevents me from receiving 4/4 ?
thanks, any support appreciated.

satelite broadband is not meant for gaming, sure you can get high bandwidth through a satelite signal but that doesn’t mean your latency will be good, its usually in the region of 750 – 1000+ ms latencies, and since there are people complaing about lag with less than 300ms latencies, I’ll let you do the rest of the math.
As an example, this could explain why sat nav’s generally takes minutes before they start to route you.

If you cannot currently enable authenticator then enable email verification, this basic form of security will atleast prevent those that know your password gaining access without you accepting the log in credentials.
also a new password only adds to better security, use an approved password generator and generator a fairly strong, and long (10 or more characters) password. This should be unique to GW2 and should keep you safe in the mean time.
512GB Samsung 950pro | 2TB SATA-3 | AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
then I would advise you to inform your partner to change their password. the above post applies to them.
I would assume that unlinking the Authenticator would re-enable the option to use email verification on your security settings page.

Hi Brazileirobr,
At a guess, I believe the problem to be caused by your system running out of memory. the game requires a minimum of 2GB. You have 2GB but your version of windows vista is using 231MB (i find that hard to believe but thats what the log says.) This leaves you with roughly 1.7GB of ram which is lower than the minimum requirements.
you have a 64bit operating system which is good news, but is there anyway you can get your hands on more memory even just to run a test for 1 day?
512GB Samsung 950pro | 2TB SATA-3 | AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
Jayvenpup, If you are receiving many emails regarding email verification then this is a sign that the attacker knows the account name and password. You should change the password immediately.
The only reason the attacker is not gaining access is because email verification is blocking them until it gets accepted, if you accept the wrong one you could accidentally allow the attacker full access.
email verification should be good enough to use for one day if you are that desperate to play (at one point there was no email verification or authenticator).

Well I currently play the game with no issues (touch wood! quick! lol) and I am using the pc in my signature were my cpu, ram, and graphics card are all overclocked.
I have yet to experience a single game crash or anomaly.
There are lots of test out there that will test your cpu for instability, however these are synthetic test and generally don’t cover all the situations that your CPU, Ram and Graphics may run in to.
If you overclock and the game crashes its probably caused by the game finding an instability that a synthetic test wouldn’t produce.

(edited by Nitro.4732)
if you are overclocking its easier to have this disabled. once you find a stable overclock you can then experiment with speed step. no point having it messing with the cpu multipliers when you are checking for stability. I personally don’t like speed step or amd’s equivalent I have alway preferred my cpu to run at one frequency (max! ), so I disable it permanently
voltages between 1.8 and 2.2 should not harm your ram, these are within the DDR2 specification. There temperature cannot be measured by software either. If your ram comes with no Heat Speaders and you can physically see the chips on the memory PCB then perhaps investing in generic heat spreaders will help relax your feelings. something like this even available in your favourite mesmer colours.
you might even want to try 4-4-4-12 to see if thats stable at the same voltage. If it does not work you will get either system crashes if it boots or a blank screen at boot up. You may have to reset your CMOS if it does not boot.
leaving the pc for a few hours running a program such as MemTest86+ will confirm if the memory is stable. from there you can progressively lower the voltage until it becomes unstable to find out what the lowest voltage your memory will operate at with the new timings.
I noticed you have everest installed, this has many memory benchmark test that you can run to see the differences between different timings. 6-6-6-18 memory will probably be around the 60-70ns latency were as 4-4-4-12 is less than 50ns. thats a far chunk of performance in memory terms. Along with these lower timings you’ll fin memory bandwidth increases also.

Its a technology that was used to enable faster graphics core frequencies on integrated graphics chipsets when they needed it. So with this option enabled, whenever the onboard graphics detected high load it automatically overclocked itself to a set higher performance frequency.
This will not make any difference to your game but I does highlight something I didn’t know about your computer system. If you have this option it means your motherboard has an on-board graphics chip. Make sure that this is not the default graphics solution otherwise this could be causing the Low FPS issues.
512GB Samsung 950pro | 2TB SATA-3 | AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
LoD is what affects the distance at when objects are drawing, you should be able to change this from high/ultra to low/medium.
yes you can try different memory timing at any cpu speed, although the default speed is a good setting since you know its stable testing platform.
I know your voltages are on automatic but there should be a page that shows you what those values currently are (see my third image for example).
if your ram is running at 6-6-6-18 @ 1.8v then I am fairly confident that 800MHz at 5- 5- 5-15 should be achievable at 2.1v which is still within DDR2 specs.
however if the ram is running already at 2.1v then it could be possible that the memory used is just cheap generic ram which is usually typical for prebuilt computers from manufacturers like DELL, Acer, Packard Bell, Fujitsu etc.
even on 2.8GHz I still had good FPS in game (between 40-60fps with v-sync on) so I think the issue is more likely either a combination of Ram and/or the 4x PCI-E.
The 9800GTX+ is an old card but I believe it can do better. My friend plays this game with the non GTX version (vanilla 9800) and gets better FPS than what you report.
Also I am currently downloading the latest nvidia beta drivers as they mention GW2 improvements in Ambient Occlusion as well as upto 15% increase in FPS in other games. Perhaps you may also want to check them out.

However something could be done so that the website tracks a users logged in status better. I mean Going from GuildWars2.com to forums.guildwars2.com does not transfer the logged in session to server dealing with the forums. This forces users to re-log in a second time.

well the ram will potentially limit your overclock and overall performance.
If it were me in that situation I would like to try going for 400×8.5 FSB:RAM 1:1
800Mhz Ram at 5 – 5 – 5 -18 (this word filter is extremely annoying with all its false positives)
whats your ram voltage at?
ram timing can be very conservative sometimes so its always worth while attempt to get better out of them.
My ram defaults to 800Mhz @ 5 – 5 – 5 – 18 but it runs stable at 900Mhz 4-4-4-12. thats a big difference.
In the end though that 4x slot will be having an impact n your gaming period. Socket 775 motherboard still exist. You can now even get them with DDR3 support these days.
a quick look on the internet brought up an MSI socket 775 with DDR3 support @ £32 GBP thats quite tempting for me :P but it means buying new ram which makes it less of an attraction to my wallet :/

I would be less worried about data limits on sat broadband. Sat Broadband is probably the worse choice you can make apart from 3g Broadband when it comes to gaming.
Sure you’ll get 10mbps but you’ll also get the terrible latencies (lag) along with it.
you’ll probably get a better gaming service from the 1mbps broadband then you would 10mbps Sat Broadband.

Hi majhol,
A few notes:
Your Ram, it does not look right to me 399MHz @ 6-6-6-18, at that speed 399 (800MHz DDR) it should be around 4-4-4-12 for high performance ram such as Corsair Dominator, G.Skill etc. At the very least I would expect this to be 5-5-5-18 for 800MHz DDR2. this maybe why your overclocks failed the memory ok test.
My system actually has DDR2-1066 ram rated for 5-5-5-15 by corsair. However whilst overclocked I got better performace for my overclock and from my ram whilst running it at 900Mhz 4-4-4-12 this allows for the ram to be in sync with my FSB. my fsb is at 450Mhz x8.5 = 3.825Ghz my ram is at 450Mhz (900MHz at Double Data Rate).
secondly, you need to make sure your cooling is upto scratch, I use a Corsair Hydro H50 water cooling kit along with 2x 1800rpm 120mm fans. My case also has a 140mm fan directly above my CPU. The rest of my system has 3x 120mm fans focusing airflow at major components like my Northbridge and Southbridge chipsets on my motherboard to keep them cool under load. Cooling is an essential step to keeping a cpu overclock stable.
I will get my settings to you in this forum, I cannot remember all of them, as I save them as a profile in my bios to load up. (I have one OC for summer @ 3.4Ghz low voltage and one for winter 3.8Ghz higher voltage.)
also as a final note, overclocking increases power usage, your cpu is rated at 95w but this can easily reach 130w + after overclocking (not to mention other components such has hard drives, fans, graphics card also need power), it is essential to have a decent Power Supply if you plan to overclock as if this is under powered you could end up having to replace it.
If you are going to overclock this cpu, then you are most likely going to have to modify the voltages to certain components such as CPU, RAM, and North/South bridges. As you increase the speed of your cpu the demand for power on these key ares increases, so its inevitable that you will have to increase voltages.
P.S. I like your graphics card. I still have my 9800GTX+ which gave me lots of fun gaming time. I even had flashed a new firmware to that back in the day with some great overclocks.

[Important] Huge technical flaws with the Guild Wars 2 Launcher!!
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Nitro.4732
The only reason the above happens is because peer blocker in blocking the connection. the launcher tries to connect to 1 port but if that fails it tries another and another until its successfull. I don’t see anything that I could consider as a flaw.
As also stated above the cpu usage increase is due to the fancy graphical effects and technologies used on the launcher to make it look nice. not because of the ammount of connections. In a normal enviroment the launcher does not make 100’s of connections per second.
If you want to see what actually happens whilst the launcher works in a normal enviroment, monitor with a program like WireShark, not with peer blocker.

It should also be mentioned that the Nvidia 600 series cards are PCI-Express version 3.0 compatible and require a motherboard that supports version 3.0 PCI-Express to gain the full potential from these graphics cards.
there is also quite a few others reporting low FPS with the 600 series card which may suggest that they are not optimised with this game yet.

when the pc beeps like that its normally an error code. the number of beeps indicates a code which is usually at the back of the motherboard manual. codes range from silly things like setting changes that do not work to hardware problems like no cpu or ram detected.
Buying a new motherboard may help, but it may not be the motherboard that is faulty.

I currently have the same CPU as majhol. I Have mine overclocked to 3.8GHz ( see my signature). I believe the problem to be the motherboard and the PCI-E x4, this could be causing all the problems.
also overclocking the Core 2 series isn’t as simple as flipping a multiplier.
Core 2 series has Intel Speed Step which has to be disabled first, along with Intel C1E. These power saving features can cause instability very easily and are most likely why the bios reported 6×333 FSB.
on my current hardware I get an average FPS of 58.8FPS (V-Sync @ 60fps/Hz) according to FRAPS whilst running arround Hoelbrak with High Textures, FXAA, Supersampling.

Hi soilder,
Most Laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded as the processor itself is manufactured onto the laptops motherboard.
512GB Samsung 950pro | 2TB SATA-3 | AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
Hi Al Horney,
This sounds like your graphics card has glitches / artifacts.
Problems with these symptoms are usually caused by one or more of the following:
1. Underpowered graphics card.
Check your power supply rating and graphics card requirements. Check all power connections and make sure they are clean and properly seated.
2. Overheating graphics card.
Monitor your computer temperatures using software programs such as AIDA64, CoreTemp, or MSI Afterburner. In cases where the graphics is part of a laptop then you’ll want to keep the graphics temps lower than normal since resident heat can affect surrounding components. Also In desktop scenarios, cleaning the desktop and removing as much dust as possible could help lower overall temperatures.
3. Unstable Overclock on graphics card.
If you have overclocked your graphics card and/or it came pre-overclocked from the manufacturer, you may wish to try lowering the overclock to the graphics cards original reference speeds. If this solves the problem then you will either have to run a lower overclocked speed or contact your graphics card manufacturer. Note that because Guild Wars 2 is still fairly new it is currently recommended that you do not overclock your graphics card.
4. Corrupted or out-of-date driver software for graphics card.
Make Sure that all your drivers are at the latest official certified version, try to stay clear from beta drivers as these are not certified to work with your hardware and could have bugs in the software. Check the manufaturers website directly (Nvidia.com / AMD.com) to check for the latest software available for your hardware.
Hope this helps you, if not it could be a good start to look into the overheating issue first since this is generally speaking the most common cause.

80 – 90’c is within the manufacturers thermal recommendations (98’c max for GTX680) so the card is running fine although some people prefer to keep their cards running at lower temps.
My own personal preference for my GTX480 is a max temp 80’c my own tests have shown my card to reach a max temp of 74’c after 30mins of my GPU being at 95% or higher. The GTX480 also has a manufacturer max recommendation of 105’c so I feel pretty safe keeping my card below 80’c, I have overclocked my GPU with a custom firmware that allows faster speeds but keeps the temps under my target threshold.
