They would lose money on xmute stones, so this probably will never happen sadly. It’s a wonderful idea though. That’s pretty much how they do it in SPvP.

They talk about all the bugs necros have
they talk about engineers for like 10 minutes
they talk about eles and the nerfs they need
they talk about mesmers at length

They get to rangers…and spend 1 minute talking about how pets in fractals will benefit from your agony resistance…and how great sword needs a buff.

WHAT ABOUT SPIRITS
WHAT ABOUT LONG BOW
WHAT ABOUT OFFHAND AXE
WHAT ABOUT PET PATHING
WHAT ABOUT PET ABILITY DELAY
WHAT ABOUT PET REZ NOT WORKING ON ANYTHING BUT FLAT SURFACES
WHAT ABOUT THAT kitten SB NERF THAT WAS A “GRAPHIC FIX”

The state of the game today was nothing but proof that they don’t care about Rangers at all…

TRAITS

  • Steady Focus – Lot of the time you’ll be in the back of a group free-casting with full endurance. 10% more damage is great to have, and a huge buff.
  • Piercing Arrows – without this, you are totally useless. ALWAYS take this ability in WvW.
  • Eagle Eye – Getting the long bow to 1500 range means you can hit people further away than most other classes can hit you. More range is a good thing in WvW, take this trait.
  • Primal Reflexes – A lot of hits you’ll take will be crits, and the increased endurance regen can help you get out of a tight spot more easily, for instance a charge into your group. Take this just for defensive measures.
  • Sharpened Edges – Your crit chance will be from 65 – 90% with this build at all times, that makes for a good chance to bleed the enemy.
  • Quick Draw – You have a Short Bow and a Long Bow, might as well reduce the cooldown on all their abilities.
  • Commanding Voice – More fury buffs for you, take this one.

GEAR, RUNES, SIGILS, AND FOOD

  • Power, Precision, Crit Damage – A ranger has the highest ranged damage IMO because they are so easily able to get fast hits on enemies from 1200 range. Your short bow auto-attack with this build and gear will be critting for 1k-1.5k damage a hit, and considering it hits 3-4 times a second (about 5 times with quickness) you can really dish out damage. You are very squishy, so always find a safe spot to fire from such as on walls, or the back of a group. Elevation is great too. The best thing you can bring to a group as a ranger, is awesome and consistent ranged damage, so go all out and melt faces.
  • Rune of the Ranger – Precision, critical damage, and +5% more damage when your pet is out (always). Great runes for this build.
  • Sigil of Superior Air – I’ve seen the lightning strike crit people for up to 2-3k damage, great sigil for this build.
  • Sigil of Superior Strength – between your short bow and quickness I’ve gotten up to and sustained 10-12 stacks of might just by auto-attacking. You NEED this sigil, so take it.
  • Bowl of Curry Butternut Squash Soup – precision and crit damage, need I say more? (Cheaper alternative is Minotaur Steaks)
  • Master Maintenance Oil – greatly adds to your precision, use this WITH your food, they stack. (Cheaper alternative is Artisan Maintenance Oil)

And that’s it, feel free to comment here in the forums, or to message me in the game if you have any questions. Have fun melting faces

Vivec's Ranger WvW Build!

Hi Everyone!

People have been asking for a good WvW ranger build for a very long time, so I’ve decided to get off my lazy kitten and post one This should take care of you in WvW very nicely, enjoy this pwnage build in WvW.

(This build is made for group/guild WvW play, and is not recommended for SPvP or solo play. Please recognize this when posting your critiques and comments)

THE BUILD

Vivec’s Ranger WvW Build Link

The best thing a ranger can bring to WvW is very high, very sustainable damage. We can keep consistent damage on a target like no other class can, and from 1200-1500 range no less. Sitting in the back and melting targets is what we do best, and this build will help you to do that, along with providing your group the best buffs that we can give to a group.

THE WEAPONS

  • Long Bow – Too good in WvW to pass up. Every melee class in the game is better at melee than you in 80% of situations, especially cluster situations like in WvW, so stick to this, especially because of the 1500 range. Taking out siege on walls with the #5 AoE after popping quickness from your Quickening Zephyr or pet swap becomes easy, not to mention taking out enemy groups with the massive AoE that will be doing 1.5-2k damage a tick.
  • Short Bow – Again, great for group combat when things get a little closer to you. #2 is a good cone poison, #4 is great for retreating enemies. This is a good go-to weapon, don’t pass it up.
  • Everything else – People might like warhorn for buffs, but they’re short range buffs, and overall pretty useless besides the fury (1 stack of might = 1% more damage, pretty minute). Axe is the only other viable weapon for WvW, but with it only hitting 3 people, and a very weak #2 and #3, this should be skipped for Long Bow as well. Sword and Greatsword, don’t even think about bringing these into WvW.

PETS

First off, pets are pretty much useless in WvW for attacking, they get burnt down WAY too fast in groups. The biggest use of pets I’ve found, is their buffs. Meaning, I put them on passive so they don’t run into big groups, and pop their buff any time I need it.

  • Red Moa – Gives fury for 15 seconds, meaning another 20% chance to crit. With food and oil buffs plus fury, my crit chance gets up over 90%. Have fury up whenever you can, you will melt people from 1200-1500 like no tomorrow.
  • Wolf – This guy doesn’t give a buff, but I find him very useful to break up large grouped zergs. Send him into the middle of a group, pop quickening zephyr, pop the wolf’s fear, and they will be spread out. Works very nicely sending him to the back of groups and fearing enemies towards your group too in order to pick them off. Just be sure to pop quickness before you use his fear otherwise he will probably die before ho fully casts it.

SKILLS

  • Healing Spring – Leaves a water field giving regeneration to anyone in the circle, best healing ability for groups by far (considering the others do nothing to your allies). Always take this over the other 2.
  • Quickening Zephyr – overall amazing skill for the 4 seconds of quickness and the minimal downside (no healing allowed for those 4 seconds). Pop this before unloading on a target with the long bow #2, or my favorite, before dropping the Long Bow #5 AoE. People’s HP will melt away VERY fast with this build when you pop quickness.
  • Sun Spirit – I choose spirits over other skills for 1 main reason, they help the group in a very large radius to where they’re placed. Place a spirit at the back of a zerg, or my favorite, in the back of the walls when defending a keep, and the extra damage your group does will be amazing. Sun spirit applies burning on hit, and when everyone in your group is applying burning on hits, a lot of enemies will be on fire. Condition build people will love you for laying this spirit down.
  • Frost Spirit – chance for 10% extra damage for your entire group, this is like giving 10 stacks of might to your entire group for whenever it procs. Not a bad buff for a single ranger to give a group.
  • Signet of the Hunt – when roaming around or doing small group stuff I switch frost spirit for this ability. The movement speed is great for traveling, and for small group skirmishes. Switch back to frost spirit when assaulting or defending a position.
  • Rampage as One – Fury buff and stability for shooting off walls without getting pulled. Amazing elite with a relatively low cooldown. Entangle is good, but hard to get off in a place where it matters. Take RaO instead for the extra damage.

This happens on all of my characters, not just one. It seems that about the first 60% of the list is visible, but once you scroll down past a certain point, the whole list disappears, making reviewing your story past a certain point impossible. This bug has been here a very long time (possibly launch) but I just haven’t posted anything about it till now. As you see in the screen shots once the scroll bar is past a certain point then the entire list disappears.

If someone queues up for a tournament and gets a pop, they HAVE to join that tournament. You won’t let them leave once they accept the pop, so why let them not accept the pop and screw over their team for 5-10 wasted minutes? The whole 5v3-4 thing in tournaments is getting old, either let a person join to fill in the hole, or make taking pops a requirement, and not an option.

My one stun skill just killed you (not to mention the others I have). No decent team will let you sit back there firing arrows once they know you are the DPS.

And yet they do all the time. Every map has elevation to fire from, and if the your enemy is going to go down to 20% hp just getting to you, you’re going to take them out every time. You’re a ranger, not meant to be in the middle of the fray. You need to choose proper positioning to be a benefit to your team.

Hyena is bad, longbow is bad, agility training is bugged, take 5 points from beastmastery and put into wilderness survival (50% endurance is too good to not have), and i don’t see the point of going 30 points in marksmanship if you’re not taking the Signet of the Beastmaster.

That’s my opinion anyway.

The Hyena is my personal preference, I like adding another nameplate to the enemies screen, makes them act weird sometimes lol. Either way I would go with a dog pet because of their knock downs.

Piercing arrows in necessary, and whenever your pet gets to 25% (which happens all the time) your crit rate goes up to 70%, when your SB auto attack is critting from 1k-1.5k, fury becomes an absolute face melter.

Personally i find entangle is best against ranged enemies as melee ones can free themselves in a few auto-attacks before even realising they’ve been rooted at all.

Are traps really effective with 0 condition dmg?

Btw i think Hyenas are underrated too, so long as you have an ally hyena out 100% of the time their dps will be ok, however the ally is squishy no matter how far you invest in BM which sucks, it should have the same stats as your hyena.

The damage comes from your bows and pet, the spike trap is a great slow, and the fire trap is a great combo field for you (despite low cond damage) and especially your allies. I prefer RaO against ranged because I kill ranged faster than most ranged can kill me, and if they LOS me, they’re LOSing themselves too. The several seconds I get against melee with entangle is usually enough to get me an advantage to win.

This build is pretty good for teamwork situations, but it will be hard to survive alone if you don’t do it right. Thieves will always be your downfall, unless they love to eat traps… yummy death. If you ever run into problems with warrior/guardian, you can easily control their approach with spike/freeze trap, while having them enjoy fire trap’s damage (yes you might want that high condition damage here buddy), just keep them at bay.

That’s why you need to make sure you do it right. 1v1 in the middle should always be avoided, it rarely helps everything. 1v1 while defending a node, you shouldn’t be on the node. Get to a good spot that’s slightly hidden, and preferably above the node (every node has a spot like this). 1v1 while attacking the node, again, approach it from elevation. Make them die just getting to you.

Glass thieves do eat this build up, but glass thieves eat every glass build up. I’m not sacrificing pure bow damage here for condition damage because the bow damage is too good. Traps play mind games on people and it’s great. When any enemy realizes that they just walked into 2 traps, they 80% of the time automatically go into defensive mode, either burning CDs or trying to LOS. Anything that gives you more firing time on the enemy is a good thing in my book. They’re also great for team work of course.

PLAY STYLE:

You need to do 1 main thing when playing a ranger, because if we have aggro from a player you’re going to be worse in combat than most other classes. You need to keep yourself from being the center of attention. Running up on fights in progress is an amazing example.

  1. I set up vuln with LB 3
  2. pop QZ
  3. LB 5 for AoE and cripple (amazing damage ability, roots help team focus targets too)
  4. LB 2 for a focus target burn (this is when 1 enemy usually always goes down)
  5. switch wep and pet for more quickness and switch target to any enemy standing
  6. SB 4 for slow
  7. SB auto attack till 2nd target dead

All of this happens in a manner of seconds, and it’s really amazing to behold. Most enemies won’t know you’re there until they’re all dead, at this time your surviving team mates can clean up and you can move onto another node to help/cap.

Try to find high ground so you can free cast (you will win every fight for your team if you are allowed to free cast), try to set up your traps in a fight at EVERY opportunity, and set up your traps BEFORE a fight, not after it’s started.

If you are going to 1v1 someone on a node, make sure you have some elevation/obstacle on them and you will win most of the time. In an open field, most 1v1s will end with you dying, do anything you can to extend that period of freecasting that you should have at the beginning of every fight. PICK YOUR FIGHTS.

That’s about it, once you get used to wep and pet swapping this becomes a very efficient build, and has made me love rangers again.

Please keep thread to constructive criticism, and I hope you all enjoy melting face in SPvP

Hands down, rangers have the best sustained DPS in the game, especially if you let them free cast. They’re like the arcane mages of GW2, if you let them sit back and choose targets during a fight, they will totally tear your team up in no time if you’re running a glass cannon build.

THE BUILD:

http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simulator.php#1.6.9.10.0.0.32.21.0.0.133.145.134.135.151.2.2.36.376.381.383.396.398.401.0.0.0.0.0.0.441.0.0.30.30.0.0.10

Critique as you will!

WEAPONS

  • Long Bow – Most people don’t like this weapon because of the poor auto attack, but the auto attack is the only bad thing about it!  Rapid fire is very high damage especially with quickness, 10% more damage from vulnerability in 1 shot is amazing, knock back/stun is great for nodes or people focusing you, and the AoE is an AMAZING damage dealer to groups, not to mention the crippling effect which greatly helps your team clean up.
  • Short Bow – taken for obvious reasons, auto attack has very high damage with this build and will be your main damage dealer, cone poison is great to lower healing, gives another evade, has a cripple which helps your melee team mates, as well as you to focus, and the daze/stun is also great.
  • Sword and great sword are good, but frankly just do what other classes can do MUCH better (thief and warrior).  Axe is a good weapon for group combat, but has VERY little flexibility, especially when compared to the Long Bow.  Stick with the bows for sure.

PETS

  • Wolf – obvious reasons, the fear and knock down are amazing
  • Hyena – considered a dog pet so still has a knock down, and the f2 ability summons another hyena as well. MY theory on this is that the more nameplates that appear on an enemy screen, the more worried they get (see mesmers). And having 2 pets on your target can cause them to make some mistakes which let you sit back and blast away at them.

BUILD REASONING:

  • Hydromancy sigil – is good in tight spots, and goes well if you follow up with a knock back from LB #4.
  • The earth sigil – for more bleeds, but with such a high crit chance could be swapped for strength on the SB.
  • Healing spring – must for team work, condition removal is a godsend.
  • Quickening Zephyr – obvious reason, use when entering combat and target is at long range
  • Traps – The bread and butter. Combo field, slow, bleed, and burn all with 2 abilities. Get into a tight spot with your group and these can mean the difference between life and death, especially with blast finishers. I choose spike over frost because laying 2 combo fields over each other cancels out one of the fields and makes it useless. Stick with spike and fire for high damage and the slow.
  • Steady Focus – amazing ability for those moments when you run up to a fight in progress and nobody is targeting you, or if you’re camping a node from afar and get a big jump on an enemy from 1200.
  • Beastmasters Bond – pets go down a lot, might as well get up to 70% crit chance when it happens
  • Piercing arrows – ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for tournaments. Too many players clumped together/pets/illusions getting in the way not to have it. Take it, or lose a ton of DPS
  • Agility Training – I can’t live without this trait. It helps pets do a significantly higher amount of damage just because they can stay closer to the target more easily.
  • Trappers expertise/potency – buff your traps, you’ll need them
  • Mighty Swap – either this or commanding voice are great, I like this for the greater damage on pets, especially when the swap gives you quickness.
  • Amulet/runes – self explanatory
  • Elite – RAO is great for the crit buff, gets you up to 70%. Entangle should be switched to if you see that the opposing team is melee heavy though.

LB is a great wep especially when coupled with the SB. I demolish people with this bow so often it’s not even funny, don’t know why people hate it so much. Bad auto attack…pretty much the only bad thing about this wep.

Why not something simple like letting pvper’s equip their pvp gear as clothing in pve lands, and let pver’s equip their pve gear as clothing in the mist. That way everyone can look cool and show off their status and it wont impact actual gameplay.

I think that’s a terrible idea unless there is some way to make it purely cosmetic. The gear for PvE and SPvP is vastly different in the way it works anyways.

But IT IS possible to manipulate the market.

If one knows the chokepoint(s), one can manipulate the flow(s).

It’s all about knowing how to gain enough money to be on the chockepoints level, then by consistantly getting money from lower level trading, you can begin to influence the chockepoint, which is at the higher trading level, and thus eventually can control it.

There is alot of psychological games to played within the context of market/trading. One can get most profit if they can stay ahead of the game…it is like a chess game.

/sigh

That’s not market manipulation. That’s just a player being smart. And one person, even one group of people, cannot manipulate a game wide market that’s on 24/7.

People manipulate the REAL market, which is far larger and more complex. Stop pretending it cant happen here.

You know that you don’t have to rez dead players….rezzing dead NPCs counts towards it. Just go to any event area in Orr lol.
