Also don’t forget about the Soft Wood Logs. You need 4 instead of 3 to create a Soft Wood Plank. Which adds up to a crazy amount if you realize you need 720 logs to make a staff.
For those who have been crafting Ascended weapons might have noticed this. The requirement for Soft Wood Logs to craft a Soft Wood Plank is 4 instead of 3. It’s the only recipe that needs 4 while all the other plank recipes only need 3.
I tried to come up with a valid reason why they have done it like this but I really can’t figure it out so I’m guessing it’s a bug. Also quite an expensive bug, both in gold and time.
Let’s say you want to craft an Ascended Staff. The staff requires 9 Spiritwood Planks. To make one plank you need 20 Soft Wood Planks. That means you need 180 Soft Wood Planks to create one Staff.
In total you’ll need 4 × 180 = 720 Soft Wood Logs to create a staff.
According to the most recent TP prices one Soft Wood log goes for 1s84c. It would cost 13g46. Which isn’t that crazy and only takes you a day of dungeon running. But compared to a Hard Wood Plank, which only requires 3 logs to create, that’s twice as expensive.
Don’t even think about farming it because one tree on average only nets you 3 logs. That means you would have to find 240 trees.
This is absolutely the worst part of crafting the Ascended if you ask me. Because the areas to farm them are all low level. There is nothing to gain for me other than running around looking for these trees. Not fun I can tell you.
This issue makes it almost unplayable for me. I wonder why more players aren’t raising their concerns with this. There’s always something wrong with each new content and it’s such a shame it has to be like this.
Anyone else experiencing a huge FPS drop when you get to the holograms part of the TA Aetherblade dungeon?
A teammate of mine said it might have something to do with the water flowing underneath the map. Normally my FPS is around 30 but even when I put all my graphical settings on ‘best performance’ I can only get 10 FPS at best. Unfortunately, it makes it almost impossible to play. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Great post Elkna, I couldn’t say it better.
The living world updates are just gimmicks in my opinion. I haven’t seen anything polished come out of arenanet, and the pace they have gives them the excuse to not even say anything about the problems.
You are right. And I do believe the gimmicks have a positive influence on the player base (they even saw an increase in players). Perhaps if they pushed content 1 week slower it would give them enough time to solve some of the problems like the ones they had in the previous content updates.
A minority crying and moaning about a fight being challenging shouldn’t be a priority. There are tons of people who have loved this fight and it’s about time less casual players got something enjoyable and not overly easy. If you want a game company to respond to every little whine and moan, Blizzard is that way —>
Last time I checked the “less casual players” were the minority in this game.
But hey, I’m happy to see you are easily satisfied when someone throws a bone at you.
Yeah, happened to me twice during two successful events. Didn’t get credit for either one of them and not sure if I still feel like giving it another shot.
To each his own. The Tequatl fight isn’t for everyone. If you can’t organize a team, you fail, thus leading to a “poor experience”.
You cannot guaranteed an enjoyable experience, because everyone has a different definition of what’s “enjoyable” or “fun”. So if you choose to not participate in the event, that means there’s just more space for other people to do it.
ps – Be glad you even get a reward for effort. Rewards should have only been given for success. I’ve never seen someone get their college degree just for “putting in effort”.
I actually do enjoy the organizing part. The problem is that organization is limited. The event requires 80 people, but only few more people fit into a zone before you get thrown into overflow. Try organizing when you are put into an overflow with people speaking in German, French and Spanish. Do I really need to be forced to guest to high populated servers hours ahead of time and join Tequatl guilds just to get this thing going? It is just a waste of time.
I’m disappointed you’re not seeing the point I’m trying to make. This is not polished content, neither were the previous patches as my examples indicate.
PS. The sarcasm regarding rewards flew right over your head. Unless you assume that obtaining two green items are rewarding? I’m glad I didn’t rely on 80 others when I got my university degree.
After careful consideration I decided to make a thread about the lack of quality of the recent patches that have been put into the game. Let me first say that I enjoy having content that seems to be aimed for people who play this game a lot. Such as SAB Tribulation Mode, Queen’s Gauntlet and Tequatl to some extend. I also like to have the frequent updates. It keeps me interested in the game for much longer than I anticipated.
However, it seems the implementation of the Living Story comes at a price. The content itself doesn’t seem to be tested nearly enough to guarantee an enjoyable experience. So let me give you some examples. I tried Tequatl every day now since it was released. I lost count but I must’ve attended at least 15 events. In 13 of these events the server did not succeed in killing Tequatl. During 2 events the server was successfully able to kill it but for some odd reason my game lost connection. I don’t even want to talk about reward for effort because the only things I got were 2 green items.
There was also the bug at the end of Tribulation Mode World 2 Zone 2. I’m sure for those who have tried know what I’m talking about. There seemed to be some internal affairs going on with the creator of SAB which may explain why it took over a week to fix it with a patch while every day players kept complaining about it on the forums. A bug this big should not be in the game for more than a day if you ask me.
Not to forget the farming that people did in the queen’s gauntlet. I’m sure some made over a 1000 Gold before it was nerfed. I think Liadri was all right, although the ticket farming was a bit tedious unless you bought them.
So is the Living World content worth the trouble? To be honest, I feel like I’m more taking part as a test subject for a game. I suggest spending more time on testing things properly so it doesn’t turn into a big disappointment for the crowd.
I’d like to have an invite to TKS as well. I meet the requirements and can function as a Commander if necessary.
Since yesterday I am unable to leave the overflows when I guest to another server. Every time I try to guest to another server and it asks me to transfer me out of the overflow I get a “Network Error”.
Is this intentional or a bug? My server isn’t very active during the day so it’s fairly pointless to wait there for at least an hour for an attempt with a rather high fail chance. On top of that, the overflows are so disorganized. Especially in Europe where players start shouting in French, German and English.
Tribulation mode World 2-2, checkpoint bugged

I also have the feeling Anet is not in a rush because they only benefit from it. Usually they patch within a workweek, especially with gamebreaking bugs like these.
The bug itself is not that bad, but rather the location is what makes players furious. Players put in hours of work to get to the end of the zone. Suddenly they are stuck in a predicament. The next area is quite hard and requires a lot of precise jumping, which means a lot of double deaths. Personally, I wasted more continue coins on this bug than all of the other zones combined. Players even get trolled harder when the next cloud checkpoint doesn’t even appear to work.
