TEQUATL GAME CRASH PLEASE READ

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

I imagine these crashes are related to the client running out of memory. It is likely nothing to do with your computer and more to do with the fact the client is 32-bit. I have run the Tequatl event on a top-of-the-line PC at a friends house and still get crashes using High Detail settings.

I recommend dropping all your ingame gfx settings to their lowest possible for this event. First set your client to Performance Mode. Then go even further and turn Shadows OFF and Max Model Limit to HIGHEST. You might also want to put Resolution Sampling to NATIVE.

Tequatl "Abomination Charges Megalaser" bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

sigh

Veteran Abominations still spawn around the Megalaser. They still target it and charge it nuking its health from %100 to %10 in 2 seconds.

I spend alot of time trying to organize Tequatl kills on my server (Desolation) on an almost daily basis and sometimes multiple times per day.

I have a pre-made chat-macro I use to /w a Warrior on the map to guard the Megalaser from abomination spawns. “Please stand here {I show the warrior where the Aboms] spawn, and watch for Veteran Risen Abominations. Kill them as fast as possible or they will charge and kill the Megalaser during the Defence Phase of the event.”

Sometimes (as in tonight) this doesn’t work as the warrior either DC’s, forgets, misses the abomination or gets caught up fighting something else. It is sad I even have to make this ‘task’ an official part of my kill setup these days.

Yes, this is a rage/frustration filled bug-report.

As the title says, Im looking for a solid group to finish off the TA Aetherpath achievments. I’ve tried to pug it using the LFG tool for the past 3-4 hours and have been getting nowhere. Most of the groups didnt even know what to do at the ooze escort section. I really tried my very best to explain everything in minute detail and basically hand-hold and carry my groups, but it was hopeless.

So as a last resort I’ll try and use the Dungeon forum as I assume that the type of people that visit here know how to dungeon PvE

Specifically looking to complete ‘Above and Beyond’ (Complete all optional events), ‘Broken Clockwork’ (Kill the Clockwork Nightmare) and ‘Whos in Charge Here?’ (Kill Horrik first then his minions)

Im necroing this thread as every one of these issues has still to be addressed and i have a new issue to add to the list. Please dont fire-and-forget your content Anet Some of us still really enjoy it.

Most of the community really loves the new fixed and predictable spawnrate for Tequatl btw. It was sorely needed. Thank you for that.

EDIT: Also, as anybody noticed mobs on the East Battery (defence stage) are alot more aggressive towards the battery now? Often they will ignore players and just walk straight to the battery to attack it. Has this always been the case or have Anet deliberatly tried to make the event harder by changing the mob AI? Which is a good thing btw, some complain its too easy.

Knights or Soldiers for WvW Necro?

in Necromancer

Noobix.3958

Thanks guys for taking the time to reply that is extremely helpful. Im farming Arah atm to build my knights set =D A long, slow, arduous process for sure, but worth it in the end I think.

I’d love to know Stx, which runes do you use instead of Melandru on your Necro? I thought they were pretty much standard in WvW with any class?

I find it funny i actually used Ascii’s trait distribution by accident. He seems to favor warhorn over Plague Chill though. Chill on blind is too much of a gamechanger for me and i cant do without it. It makes Plague #2 probably the most devastating Zerg-Vs-Zerg skill and turns Well Of Darkness into a CC to boot. I use WoD to catch the tail of zergs and watch as the stragglers stupidly get chilled and cut down by my team.

Knights or Soldiers for WvW Necro?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

Im struggling to come to a conclusion on which armour stat set would be best for my Necro in WvW. I generally do large scale blob vs blobbb fights and so my build is centered around Staff + Wellspam + Plague with Chill on Blind.

My obvious choices seem to be Knights (Toughness/Power/Precision) or Soldiers (Power/Toughness/Vitality)

Currently my traits look like this: GW2 Editor

Traits: Yes its wonky but this is currently for my PVT setup and im unsure what to do=/. Now, it is worth noting that if i went the Knights route i would crit more meaning more life siphon from Vampiric Precision. As a bonus it would make sense to get rid of Deadly Strength and just get Withering Precision which applies Weakness(5s) on crit. I dont need to crit high, i just need to crit at all and cause havoc AND heal! Win win!

However, if I went the full Soldiers route my higher HP should give me more staying power overall in fights i think. Id sacrifice Target the Weak and get Ritual of Protection instead. I consider this option to be more defensive and conservative.

Would the Life Siphoned crits offset my lower HP pool in big zerg fights when i spam my three wells and marks etc? Would Withering Precision make a noticeable difference for my team or is condition cleansing too rampant anyway? Build editor is good but i dont wanna commit to the gear ingame just yet:P

Arenanet need to swap Deadly Strength and Protection of the Horde minor traits so i can have my cake and eat it too

As a necromancer these changes wont effect me too much. The loss of a bleed on SoS is a bit of a bummer. But no great loss in the grand scheme.

Thieves however are gonna get hit hard. Maybe some will learn to play the game instead of relying on HS and BS to infinistealth/cleanse/reset-the-fight-when-losing combo. Ive personally never had too much trouble with thieves, this change is just going to allow me to catch and kill you little rats alot quicker. Lols.

Collaborative Development: World Population

in CDI

Noobix.3958

What I hope to get out of this is a sense of why people think that the population causes the scoring issues, because that is something we can find a solution to.

I personally think its the other way around. Scoring causes population issues. When a server has a very well performing ‘reset night’ and they get that ‘score momentum’ you are talking about, they tend to carry that through the rest of the week with them. There are very few comebacks. It creates a pshychological defeatist effect on the two other servers. They are already losing so whats the point this week? Might as well hope we get an easier matchup next week! Now that less players are logging in, the losing compounds itself even more until even the members of the hardcore WvW guilds cant be assed to log in anymore.

This is how I felt when Desolation was underperforming over the last few months. I felt like any effort I put in was null and void because we were so far behind for it to even matter. Now that Desolation is doing well in the leagues im putting alot more hours into WvW and even doing some commanding. Its fun to win, its crap to lose.

The fix for this in my opinion is rewards. There is simply not enough personal incentive in WvW to keep players in it even if they are having a rough time. The rewards should be greater than the negative effect of having a low score.

IDEA: Make WvW the single greatest place to earn karma in the game. Add a vendor inside SM when held (and the Citadel of the home Borders) that sells Obsidian Shards and “Mists Lockboxes” that drop identically to Orrian Boxes + a chance at blueprints and low chance of superior blueprints.

HoD commanders and group dynamics

Noobix.3958

I dont understand why people get such a hadron for taking and holding SM all the time. Id rather sacrifice it to hold a t1 tower getting its gates Reinforced to be honest. He’ll, id sack it for a slightly upgraded camp!
Less experienced PUG commanders lose T3 because they get their PUG zerglings who dont know any better bogged down in an SM lord room 3-way. Meanwhile, some 15 man guild group sees opportunity and builds 4 Superior rams on your T3 Anza/QL/Wildcreek and all the scouts left because they think the big flashy SM assault/defence is really important.

I say worry about SM if the gates are being reinforced and its on its way to a waypoint. Otherwise, flip it for the PPT and forget it.

Dont be sad when you lose SM. It doesnt mean you are losing. And if another server has it, look at it as an opportunity. When the two opposing servers are lighting SM up like an xmas tree with orange swords on your map. Then a big smile should be across your face and you should be heading deep behind enemy lines. Rams and golems at the ready.

I personally think Anet made a brilliant move adding AP’s to the Season meta, even though all us wvw vets are beyond that crap, clearly.

What would your opinion be of me if i confessed i spend %70 of my time doing dungeons/living world/other PvE stuff and the other %30 doing WvW? That %30 being alot of hours, im no WvW scrub. Can i not be part of your club? Should i just stop playing WvW altogether if im not going to commit %100? What if i also admitted i spent ALOT of hours helping my server get its Tequatl kills? The very antithesis of WvW. I am not ashamed to say so. But i suppose us filthy PvEers should just get off your dang lawn huh.

This is to all the people kittening and whining about long queue times and those kitten ed achievement whorin’ PvEers taking up valuable spots for more pro, more deserving, more elite hardcore WvWers.

Please take a second to think for a minute about the opportunity that has been presented to the WvW gamemode and community here. Arenanet have provided us with an unprecedented influx of new players. This will rejuvinate WvW on lower tier servers like nothing before. It is now up to YOU, yes, YOU to mentor these players and ‘convert’ them into WvW players. Help them see the beauty of the finest part of the game. Teach them. ‘This is why we dont take supply from towers, these are fire fields and these are the skills you need to use to ’blast’ them.’ Dont berate them in mapchat for grinding camp guards doing JPs etc etc.

Suffer the lag for now. Suffer the huge queues for now. Once everything dies down in a week or two it will all be worth it. I guarantee every server will have a noticably larger WvW playerbase after this league. The key will be which servers that gain the most.

Bugs with Tequatl Event

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

As fun as the new Tequatl event is, I am getting pretty frustrated with the serious bugs I’ve encountered so far. Unfortunately I don’t have screenshots/footage to demonstrate these bugs in action but hopefully a few players could back me up that they exist? I’ll try and get some screenshots of the bugs in action on my next runs. I really don’t want #3 ever again though =/

Bonewall during Burn phase Rare-Reproducible?: -Tequatl spawns a bonewall as soon as the Megalaser fires and stuns him. This effectively kills 5-10 seconds of potential dps. It seems pretty consistent/reproducible. Ive noticed it happens when the previous DPS stun phase happens so quickly that Tequatl instantly phases back to the Battery Defence stage from ‘stunned’. When this defence is over, its as if the ‘Hardened Scales’ counter kept increasing invisibly all through the defence stage and comes into effect on the next stun.

Turret Cleanse Hit-Detection – Common-Reproducible: – Turret cleanse hit-detection is extremely inconsistent. As a commander, I have called for cleanses and noticed 3 blue cleanse potions fire and land right on me. Sometimes not one will cleanse the AoE poison fields. Im unsure if this is due to too many of the pots being fired at the same time, or if it is just general hit-detection errors on the AoE fields, but either way its pretty frustrating for the clumped groups and the turret users who get moaned at for “not doing their job properly!”.

Fishhead Spawn during Defence Phase – Rare: – Fish-heads spawn at the first %75 Battery Defence phase and nuke the Megalaser to about %10hp. In about 60-70 spawns I have only encountered this bug twice. As you can imagine, it is highly frustrating and basically kills the event dead in its tracks.

Turret skills locking – Common-Reproducible: – Turret animations will sometimes lock when using the turret skills too quickly. This has the effect of disabling the turret, even though it looks like the turret is working due to skills ‘proccing’ and even cooling down. However, no potions or harpoons are fired and no cleanses/buffs given.

Champ Risen Grub chases to Megalaser – Moderately rare/Reproducible: – *If the Risen Giant Grub that spawns on the South-eastern turrets is still alive when Tequatl phases to Battery Defence, it aggros all the way over to the Vigil Megalaser. Now usually this can be dealt with if the players/commander on TS notice it and realize how dangerous it is, but that thing does a ton of damage and is a nasty difficulty spike in an already difficult and hard-to-coordinate event. I am unsure if this would be classed as a bug or not but could be a refinement made to the way the mobs aggro in the event.

EDIT: (yay New bug/balance issues!)

Veteran Abomination Bullrushing Megalaser – Moderately rare/Certain Circumstances: – In a similar vein to the ‘Champion Grub’ bug, sometimes a Veteran Risen Abomination will charge the megalaser bringing its health down to an extremely low level almost instantly after the Defence Event has started. This puts the players in an oftentimes unwinnable situation from the get go.

Launchpad dropping players – Moderately rare: – Launchpads sometimes bug out and drop the player vertically midjump. I suspect this is lag related issue that would be quite tricky to fix.

I still dont understand how you would frame a poll to get useful information out of players. A. To make it worthwhile for the player doing it and B. To get useful info for the devs.

Example: Twilight Assault just released.
Do you like it? Y/N
Rate the difficulty 1-5
Did you enjoy the storyline and characters? ‘What story?’ ‘Didnt care’ ‘yes excellent!’

I dont see how a poll can ask ‘why’. Unless you overload it with every possible option there can be. Maybe im lacking imagination here can somebody help me out?

It is better than assuming what we like and dislike.
The poll can have if/then/else statements.

Did you enjoy XYZ content? Y/N
If Yes, then “What would you like to see in the future?”
else “Was the content difficult enough?” Yes/No
else “Was the content engaging enough?” Yes/No
etc etc.
<Comment field>

Im not going to go into detail but the survey can get really ‘boss’ with the branches of else statements.

Yeah you could write up a really smart and amazing survey. And it could probably ask almost every question. But is it then getting too long? How much time is it going to take a dev to write up this survey? Will it be sure to ask ALL the right questions? How does a player voice an opinion not covered by the survey/poll? If i assume theres a text field to fire away any other suggestions, who reads and collates the thousands to be sent to the relevant teams? At this point arent we better off just having some sort of forum?

What im getting at here is that the forum is the best way to ask questions AND voice opinion.

I think polls ingame or otherwise are an inherently bad idea. The number of ‘liked it’ or ‘hated it’ people as a number is pretty useless when you dont consider the context.

Look at the Tequatl Rising update. People that couldn’t get on a highly populated enough server with organisers that knew what they were doing to have a successful kill will tell you it was ’the worst content yet. Problems such as the guesting and overflow system were barriers to their having fun. On the other hand, the people that did manage to kill Tequatl a few times will tell you it has been some of the best content yet. (Im one of them, the Tequatl update was genius btw).

You cant get the intricacies of ‘why’ a person loved some aspect of an update from a poll.

To be honest, the best thing the players can do to be in the spirit of the ‘collaborative development’ ideology is to keep doing what they have always done. Provide concise and constructive critisism to help the developers see what the problems are. The developers just have to keep up their end of the bargain by showing they are listening. There will always be trolls and flamebait posts which can easily be ignored.

Your suspicions are spot on. The undead potions are great for people defending turrets and batteries etc but the +/- %10 does nothing to Tequatl’s Fingers or Tequatl him/herself.
.
Your best bet is to run Power/Toughness/Vitality gear (Invaders from WvW) and maximise power through Sharpening Stones. Hope that helps.

TEQ rewards?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

It would also be nice to get something more than the 1-2silver you get for re-running the event. Its not an easy event and some commanders like to do it multiple times in a day to help their server or guildies through it.

At this point i re-run it to help the people on my server but that doesnt get me anything but gratitude from the players (which is priceless to me). Still, im playing the game and I should be rewarded for it in a tangible way right? Maybe the 1G reward should be awarded for EVERY Tequatl kill?

I understand that great loot/rewards would put even more guesting pressure on the successful servers and theres the worry that the players get the encounter so finely tuned that every run is a successful one. But to be honest, the coordination and effort involved is greater than that. People prepared to rerun content should be rewarded for it everytime, or at least have the chance to build their work up to something. Which is why tokens should be rewarded.

Tokens or gold evrytiem is what im saying.

Class build segregation

in Suggestions

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

Currently, changing your trait build involves locating a vendor and paying a small fee to redistribute your trait skillpoints. Imo, this makes it a bit of an inconvenience for the player to change their build regularly. The Anet team has done a great job promoting build experimentation with the new Jubilee Gauntlet content. I can imagine alot of players have stubbornly stuck with one build since character creation and they are being forced to learn their class a bit more. My point is, it should be easier to experiment with your class build. I personally prefer a high single-target dps PvE build and an AoE focused WvW build and occasionally lose the will to go and change my trait layout just to do a different activity for the night. Yes there are conveniently placed vendors in WvW and major cities but honestly, walking to a dude to do something like that seems like busywork to me. Also, 2s man!

This has most definately been requested in the past but I thought of a couple of ways it could be implemented:

1. Free traitpoint redistribution from the GUI.

2. Seperate trait/armour/weapon loadout when switching to WvW (as it is in sPvP)

3. ‘Build’ slots. When at the click of a button, your entire build changes instantly (with seperate secondary slots for armour/weapons instead of having them cluttering the inventory). Maybe these ‘Build slots’ could be unlocked with the achievement chests? 5k, 10k, 15k and so on?

Anyway, i think currently its quite clunky and arduous to change your build and equipment loadout. It could be so slick and it would promote build diversity and experimentation instead of everybody sticking to the same ‘one build to rule them all’ mentality we have just now. You see questions in the class forums like “What is the best build for PvE AND WvW” and thats because people want to settle on one catch-all build for every situation.

Necros are the most subtle and nuanced class in the game imho. Good Commanders/Bad Commanders

in WvW

Posted by: Noobix.3958

Noobix.3958

I’ve been in a few open VoIP servers for WvW across a few servers. One thing that really really bugs me is the commanders that lose their cool and start shouting at their guildies and the puggies when things start going badly. Now, I realize that WvW can get pretty intense at times, and stress levels increase, especially when you are ultimately responsible for the success of a group of 30 or more people.
But commanders have to remember that these people are not their gremlins to be chastised for failure. They are real people that are in this to have as much fun as possible. I can tell you, the motivation to try to have fun goes down pretty quickly when Mr.Commander expresses his displeasure in the worst possible way by mouthing off for 2 minutes. They are not all at the MLG skill levels and reaction times you want them to be. People are going to see you are not in control of the situation and start leaving and doing other things. As the commander, they ultimately take responsibility for getting the group into the bad situation whether they mis-read the enemies intentions/numbers/whatever. Most of them realize they are being an kitten and apologize profusely afterwards. I understand that sometimes commanders have to make the best of a bad situation, such as being grossly outnumbered etc and they are essentially doing damage control.
Good commanders keep their cool and I respect the hell out of the ones that command well. Communication and making everybody understand their goals is key.
What else do you think make good and bad commanders? No name-dropping please.

EDIT: Changed my stance on whether it is the commanders fault when the group fails. I was quite harsh i suppose^^

Im with OP. If you are going to be inspired by something, you don’t baztardize it to the point that you lose all reverence to it in the first place. It just makes the content creators seem ignorant.

Im Scottish, and god-forbid any film or game developed in the USA that has voice-acting for dwarves shudder

Just wondering, why doesnt the homepage news RSS feed not update anymore? The last update on it for me was Oct 27th the “Don’t Miss the Halloween Surprise at Noon Pacific October 28!” article.

I practically live on the internet through RSS and it would just be more useful to me if i got news feed articles as they happened through RSS.

Disgusting Community Behaviour.

“Trolling” is a kitten plague of internet gaming and the internet in general these days. Some kids see it as a fricking badge of honour to see who can cause the most grief and harrasment amongst their friends. Its all ‘For the lulz’ as they say.

“I bet that guy is totes raging lulz!”

Their complete lack of social skills and disregard for others will serve them well in life im sure.

I see so much passive aggressive rage in this thread…

From the sound of it, you don’t enjoy the content, you force yourself to play it because it is the “in” thing to do. I faced down this very logic after 4 months of farming SolRoA in EQ. 4 months of hardcore farming and I finally realized the game was boring; I wasn’t having fun, I was just doing it because I didn’t want to invalidate all the work I had done previously.

No you misunderstand. I didn’t say I don’t enjoy the content. In fact its the opposite, if I get a ‘good’ run and nobody has connection issues or what have you, I really really love it. Im loving the added challenge agony is bringing in in these later levels and to be honest, even when there is a DC, its always fun to just try it with 4 just to see how we do. Case in point, taking down Big Tom with 4 after somebody quit. The feeling of achievement is immense I don’t doubt that. The content has the potential to be brilliant but it is being held back by being frankly, unfinished.

My problem is that any issues at all should be rare. At the moment, the ratio is way out of whack. A vast minority of my runs have been plagued by show-stopping bugs and DC’s (which the players should be able to work around i.e allowing an outsider to join mid-fractal if they have completed the level in the past.)

Just a thought actually, the Fractals are already kind of ‘checkpointed’ as far as player deaths. Couldn’t there be a feature to allow players to ‘reset’ the progress in that fractal to the last checkpoint? That way, stuck npc’s and the like could be respawned and reset to their idle position and brought out of combat if need be. Not ideal, but much better than starting an entire run of 3 fractals because one thing broke at the very end. One use per fractal to prevent abuse and all bosskills instantly checkpoint forward. :P

I’ve already submitted my bug-reports ingame so this is more of a rant on the general state of FoTM right now to blow off some steam on. I’ve ran FoTMs lvl 17 three separate times in the last two days.

The first attempt saw us get to Dung 2 which was Cliffside. A guy DC’d and couldn’t get back in which made the last seal and boss a real pain but we did it after about 1hr30. However, because we took so long, 2 people had to leave so the run was a fail.
Second attempt saw us get to 3rd Fractal but the Grawl Shaman got stuck at the edge of the lava somehow, he was invulnerable to all our casts and so that run was a fail too.
Third attempt with another pug saw us also get to 3rd Fractal (Asura). We wiped a few times at Big Tom the robot or whatever and one particular guy got really upset and left. One man down, we did it the the next attempt (Screw you Xerox Festa), and made it to the Asura boss which was relatively easy to take down 4 man. So we did it, got the chest but the Outro cinematic didn’t fire and we never got the confirmation to go back to Dessa’s lab. So that run was busted too even though we killed the last boss of the last Fractal! I think it might have been something to do with the guy that left having started the fractal in the first place, i dunno.

And this was just the last 2 days for me, ive had numerous runs all the way up to 17 with DC’s, broken NPC’s etc. Its beyond a joke.

We NEED an LFG tool, and we NEED to be able to continue in dungeons where we left off, even with a different player if need be. FoTM is broken and potentially a massive waste of time right now as far as im concerned without these features.

For now, im done with FoTM and by extension GW2 until it is fixed.

Here’s a constructive suggestion for the Event designers. Dont put fightable quest NPC’s in a 2×2×2 room with tables chairs and other knicknacks to get stuck on, where 50 players are going to enmass root, stun, knockback and fear at the same time.

With the underlying NPC stuck bug not fixed after god knows however many months, this was kind of silly no?

Achievement bugs: will they ever be fixed?

This bug is known to the community and apparently has been for a while. Still, ANet hasn’t even acknowledged it as a problem.

What makes it even more annoying, is that my OCD is still making me play with the mentality of not dying so its very stressful to play when I do:D I reckon i’ve gotten the full 500,000K about 6 times over by now.
