eh i think youre missing something

i normally run this or extremely similar variants tailored to whatever situation. i have enough presence of mind to set up blast rotations in combat, but unless im extremely careful and drawn out ill end up skipping the field drop and just 3x blast nothing with bob and orbital. pretty annoying. it even happens when im setting up a stealth skip if im not being careful, and thats extremely frustrating. it didnt happen before 6/23.

Nothing more frustrating in pvp when you try to combo up a few blast in water on cap to help out the team when you end up blasting empty air.

Slow projectile speed, high arc and super sluggish precast makes it far from useful to auto on it unless you are running zerg vs zerg.

It’s very possible that your MMR is SO high that the matchmaker doesn’t expand enough to grab people to play with.

I’m investigating some numbers and math and stuff.

I’m greately thankful for your investigation && problem solving. Would it be encouraging if more fameous players world post daily about clear, hotfix worth issues?

Incendiary powder was the main reason cele engi worked so well.

There are other traits that made it worked as well, but now that it is split across 4 lines it isn’t worth it.

Been a problem since launch that has gone completely awry with the latest +30% stats to amulets.

Best part is power creep in other areas like traits are also tipped heavily to the offensive side, diminishings toughnesses effectiveness even more.

20% and up condition adjustments from food is just broken in my opinion. Hoelbrak is mostly fine bjt dropping of 5% would make it a little better for the game as a whole withour breaking the runes viability.

What is the reasoning? There is none.
Anet isn’t capable of balancing any form of pvp.

From reading your posts in this thread, OP you are confusing.

You say that objectives are important but you also don’t want to be punished for leaving a point against a powerful elite. Your objective was to hold that point…

You say that there is no reason to not go full zerk because some focus by more people will melt you anyway? Have you ever played a pvp match? Have you heard of roles? Have you seen a good bunker at work? I assume you haven’t.

@nearlight. The skills defensive and offensive possibilities apply to so many other skills as well, nothing special about ds skills making it far from uniquely difficult, not even a little.

Actually on that one they have done patches every 2 weeks since the June 23rd patch.

Updates sure. Do they really contain changes we could considrr balance updates though?

Edit: just checked. Last update was a week late. Which isnt an issue if they were to communicate it like other competitive games do.

No we arent ignoring Necro, but once people start mastering DS, I’m afraid of how strong Necro will be. Give it some time for the average player to learn these things. Ill try and keep this short.

I REALLY REALLY love this game, or rather, the potential this game has.

After just under 3K hours in less than 2 years I have very much gotten to enjoy every part of this game.
Every game has its flaws. We all know it, most accept it, others whine about it. I normally defended it in the hopes and trust that it will get rectified, by it I mean everything wrong in PvP.
This latest patch(23rd of June) was just the last hope starting to fade.

Issues that I am tired of :
Poor MMR. Don’t need to elaborate.

Poor leaderboards. Don’t need to elaborate.

Infrequent and poor balance. Hell half the time balance is forced by incessant whining from the community which then results in a half kittened overnerf.

Empty promises. 2 weekly balance patches never happened. Stop saying stuff that you can not possibly stick to.

Poor Dev presence, beyond Grouch, cudos Grouch, you are awesome, wish you could do more!

AFK and trolling not being discouraged via punishment system. I can not tell you how many games the initial teamfight goes badly and a person decides this is lost and AFKs.

Bugs that have been ongoing for YEARS. This latest patch was a major overhaul that should have been the perfect opportunity to FIX stuff that has been broken for the longest time, immobilize in mid air, AI (since this is something they worked on and even advertised), pathing issues.
Instead a whole bunch of new stuff that will likely never get fixed was added. Some of the most prominent.
Engineer Magnet is unreliable, using it and it not working has gotten me killed more times than I can count.
Movement skills are a mess, causing teleports and desyncs, also pointless if you already have swiftness since you don’t even gain ground, you sometimes lose ground even.
Invis bugs that are constantly popping up.
I could go on and on and on about bugs but those are the ones that annoy me the most.

I don’t want to hear about X time or Y busy and HoT this and HoT that. IRRELEVANT, this was an issue long before that excuse was even a thing, not to mention balance should have its own team that would rarely be required on new content like HoT.

Should I stop playing? I don’t want to stop, I love it, remember?
But staying in hope any longer is just converting love into frustration, which if it continues, will turn into hatred, which will tarnish my good times in GW2 completely.

TLDR : I am tired of hoping that ANET actually starts working on PvP in a serious sense instead of just doing things based on community outcry or an overnerf of something every 6months to a year.

EDIT : Before people start saying, no, you can’t have my things… I’m poor anyway.

damage doesn’t seem that high when you get used to it. you get more out of playing well than you used to imo (because you get punished less).

im able to make cele engi and shout warr work in ranked.

In regards to cele engi, you are stuck in the past.
If you are nudging towards the power side you are wasting 2 stats, toughness and condi… Cele isn’t for engi anymore. Its okay on Condition based engis though.

ANet’s balancing isn’t perfect, and even they know it. If it was, we wouldn’t see so many people complaining about d/d eles and mantra shatter lockdown mesmers everywhere. The last changes they made completely shifted the meta, from team compositions to individual builds, and a lot of the previous balance was thrown out the window.

You’re free to suggest whatever you want considering balance around the average player, but ANet isn’t going to consider it seriously unless it also makes sense from a high tier perspective. If you want to change that, you’ll have to show them why it would be worth it to balance around the average player instead.

Now you are just deflecting… But I guess that is better than confrontational.

All of the complaints of the Esports playing engineers, strongly suggest the engineer itself is actually not balanced around their skill level, so that concept falls a little flat.

Precisely. The only reason Engi feels fine on “lower” tiers of play is due to burning abuse of Incendiary Ammo, once burning is brought in line, Engis won’t even see play in lower tiers or higher.

Jacked up DPS has broken the purpose of many things within the game’s PvP dyamic.

Thats true the damage is overall higher.
However the formula for damage havent changed.
They also merged some defensive traits
So lets say i have 1034 weapon strenght 2000 power with 150 crit damage
If hit you with iwarlock. thats 2326 damage if you have 2000 armor
If you have 3500 armor its just 1329 damage.
Lets not get back to the state of the game where it take forever to kill bunkers.

All damage stats are 30% to the amulet instead of on traits.
You are also neglecting to mention the compounding power damage on Power, Precision and ferocity vs the diminishing returns on Toughness.

The only thing helping condi engi right now s the fact that its relying on a single high CD ability to try and emulate a condition “burst” that some other Classes are capable of.
The only reason it works is because burning is obscene at the moment.

Hi all

So do you guys think we will get a re-evaluation of the engineer traitline?

We all know that there are some really cool traits but synergy inside some traits are extremely limited. Looking at explosives not running nades for example and the lack of damage when not running nades and/or explosives.

I REALLY think that some of the lines need rearranging and removal of stuff like Explosive decent, adding of condition traits in Fireams and/or explosives for example.

In short do you guys think ANET will at least consider looking at the traits again with the feedback we provided to improve some things?

Things I want :
I want condi engi back,
i want bomb engi back in all its forms, condi, hybrid and power options(none seem worth it)
I want Over Shield to MEAN something.
I want adept Firearms to feel impactful, not some arbitrary numbers.
I don’t want Adrenal implant to dominate Tools GMs and still not stack with vigor on Tools minors.
I want Thermobaric Discharge to actually see use! Such a cool idea.
I want Siege Rounds to not just be for one single Elite and the other two pointless for most builds.

What are you do you want?
Lets be realistic, I don’t want complaints about how weak engi is or how stuck we are in a tanky/support situation, nor should this be a thread demanding flat buffs to bring us back into meta.
All I ask is what do you want from traits to not be as obvious as to what is the stronger pick with more variety in some lines.

Cele engi lacks dmg due incendiary powder moved to firearms tree (which you cannot equip unless you sacrifice survivability).

It’s actually the exact same defensive traits we had pre-patch if not better: Heavy Armor Exploit syngergizes with Invigorating Speed for permanent vigor, and you still have Backpack Regenerator to take, and HGH shortens the cooldown of your Toss Elixir S and consumed Elixir S. The only thing you lose out going Firearms is Power Wrench.

The problem with Celestial, and this has been noted and discussed to death, is that other classes have obtained such massive power gains that your defensive stats feel a lot weaker. Other classes have also obtained massive defensive gains so that your power and condition damage feels a lot weaker. Killing a D/D ele with Rampage as a Celestial engineer is kind of like beating your head against a wall.

It’s not the stats. It’s our class. And you can put a bandaid on it by running Marauder or Soldier and specializing in sPvP, and you can go full-cancer with Rabid Perplexity, but truthfully the problem is that engineers by design are very underpowered at the moment. D/D ele and guardian outperform us at bunkering right now, and warrior, mesmer, and thief offer significantly better damage output.

I have still had plenty of success playing Celestial in WvW roaming, and running Berserker in zergs. But engineer has seemed to have swapped roles between PvE and PvP in this patch: we’re now a meta class in PvE, and just on the periphery in PvP; viable, but not optimal.

You forgot to mention that Celestial condi dmg output is a lot lower too. A LOT…

The FT build looks nice.. I Don’t Know that we can go ft with celestial but i Like the dubble pistol thing. So i want to try it. It seems like the ft hgh juggernaut “Meta” with more condition

Yeah i have defaulted to condition builds based on cele and if i want to go power or similar to old cele meta, marauders or knights.
Cele isnt that great for us anymore.

The main reason for going FT is for the burning on toolbelt as well as FT2 dmg, you won’t be using the autoattack that much.
Keep in mind the build is a bit weak to condi spammers.

Is it possible to Do more with elixirs and maybe bombs instead of nades ?

Definitely possible in a way. I would drop the elixirs though as you won’t want to give up mecha legs, AMR, Incendiary Powder or Short Fuse.

I would say bombs for Cele is better than nades, however bombs have issues at the moment and going into Explosives feels pointless for condi in general.

Let’s not have LoL’s MMR’s system…

1 ) Encourages win streaks to promote your self out of the bottom 90%
1 A ) The promotion of rage quitting since there is no punishment system atm
1 B ) Toxicity levels within the community will nearly triple for new players who make even the tiniest of mistakes.

2 ) LoLs system is done on a team ranking not a solo ranking. This would work in a Team Queue situation of say 5v5 premades; however, this will not work very well in a solo queue situation since your team mates are constantly changing and their MMR will vary. LoLs #1 flaw in their formula is the time spent in queue. The way LoL is set up, the formula would rather get you into a game quickly then finish putting you in an ideal match up that “favors a 50/50 chance of winning”.

I would even go as far as to state that LoL has more threads complaining about their system then GW2’s by 2-3 folds.

GW2’s system does need to be refined a lot more, but LoLs system is not one to emulate…. especially with GW2 mechanics and rewards in mind.

1 A). You are confusing the League system for ranked play vs the MMR based matchmaking of normal unranked games.

1. No punishment? Don’t know when last you played but its quite strict and punishing for both leavers and toxicity in the last ~year.

1 C). To some extent, but if the new players had their own “buffer” MMR before being introduced into the existing player pool, this would be alleviated. This is already done in LoL for some time, but the toxicity is perpetuated to badly now, so a good punishment system was required and is now implemented for a few months.

2. Not true for team ranking, you can check individual MMR while you are in match via LoLNexus and the MMR rating rarely differ largely.

2-3 fold more complaints but a community 1000 times as large. Do I need to say more?

I am not saying it needs to be emulated, even considering your knowledge of it is limited, I just said it was the best example of a working system.

LoL does matchmaking better than any game I have ever played even if you don’t consider the difficult to implement League system(because it requires a large player base), new players will always be in the same “MMR bracket” although that is not quite the way it works.
Veteran moba players or smurfs will very quickly promote out of this invisible tier and legimate new players will stay there for quite some time.
This sort of implementation is relatively simple to implement in comparison and is a must for a growing PvP community.

Actually increased population would initially mean WORSE matchmaking, due to the new players not having any indications of how good or bad they are, and are thus just put into matches totally blind.

However a good matchmaking system will compensate for that by gradually “adding” them to the existing pool of players. This obviously is not the case though.

But nope, this latest beta just highlighted again why matchmaking sucks.

Getting match with people brand new to PvP?
Getting match vs enemies of such varying skill in the same match? Where 1 guy does not even do more than auto attack and constant dodge until he cant anymore and then dies, while another guy is far better than me or any one person in my team?
Most of them I are not even premade, just getting matched with new players, period.

Seriously something being done wrong with it and its pushing me from this game.

I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said Novauke. All except the idea that Chemical Rounds isn’t good. It may only affect pistols but, considering that if you’re using pistols you’re definitely going to be using the 3 skills on it often, it works exceedingly well.

But yea, I’m glad it’s not just me that sees the weakness in a lot of the traits.

2 skills, you should never be auto attacking with pistol. Of which only one is used for reliable damage and utility and the duration of it matter, confusion/blind.

My problem mostly comes from the lack of effective grandmaster traits we now have.
Gms used to be the build defining traits and some of them like juggernaut still are, but there are so many that when I come across I just think “why is this here?”. I feel part of the problem as to why many engineers are having a hard time finding a new build is that a lot of these GMs are unappealing. Simply, If they don’t make the player want to use them, then you will have little build diversity. These are some of traits that should be changed if we want to have more builds open to engineers.

In explosives:
Evasive powder Keg – It can probably support a build, but no where close enough to define a playstyle by itself. And it doesn’t even buff a skill, its a trait that buffs a trait.

In Firearms:
The problem in this traitline is that all these GMs support condition builds, yet the only rifle trait is here. So if you are going for power rifle, theres not much to pick other than maybe modified ammo, and then that only shines in boss encounters. My suggestion is to add another effect to MA that benefits power builds.

Exactly, GMs are rarely build defining.
Condis are spread across firearms and explosives but the rest of the traits in those lines don’t really benefit condi builds much…

Because its too strong to be an auto and on top of that you won’t be able to cast ahead of the target to compensate for movement.

So I don’t want it to be an auto.

imo the game is extremely balanced atm…no problem with any of the things mentioned in alot of threads rampage is fine ele is fine, mesmer even is just hard to fight wars can finally be something else other then shoutbow….awesome rangers no complaints tbh best patch ever
