At default move speeds I find birds do more dps to moving targets than cats. If you want to roll cats you almost need to use either agility training or signet of the hunt, otherwise they are kitten trying to hit anything not standing still.
Try the wolf. hes got a 2 second knockdown + a 2 second AOE fear (activated ability) and decent dps on moving targets.
The BM build was prety much the same as xsorus’s build.
I believe I was using something like this in the spirit vid:
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6.0|5.1f.h1j|7.1f.h1k.8.1f.h5|1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d|1b.68.1b.68.1b.68.1b.68.1b.68.2w.0|0.0.k38.u48b.k6a|30.d|4j.4v.4t.4r.0|e
(Using rabid+cleric trinkets because im too cheap to get the apothecary ones)
I use the same gear for all my builds (traps bm or spirits) and I switch my traits around a lot depending on what weapon combo’s, pets and utilities I want to run.

Also Spirit of Nature is bugged. You can see at 7:52 the spirit goes res then just stops. This happened to me multiple times and I believe its from the Spirits Unbound trait which makes them move.

Bowl of lemongrass soup + runes of Melendu + dogged march = Immune to imob chill and cripple?
With the 2 leap finishers from sword+greatsword healing spring would be soooo much better than troll unguent or heal as one. I reckon you could get over 10k heals from healing spring with this build even though you only have 100 healing power.
There’s a better way of getting to 100% condition duration. 4 Runes of the Nightmare actually give a total of 20% condition duration instead of the indicated 10%. To get to 100% I would use the 40% food, 20% from 4 Runes of the Nightmare, 10% from 2 Runes of Lyssa and 10-30 points in Marksmanship (10 points+2 giver weapons, 20 points + 1 giver weapon or 30 points with no giver weapons.)
Edit: Never mind I just tested this and it no longer works they fixed the Rune of Nightmare 4 piece bonus :\

Was that you I was fighting this morning by chance?
If it was, that kitten Entangle kept screwing me over so much..I’d get caught by the very edge of it and then get boned cause I couldn’t hit the kitten thing with sword (Axe seems to work better as I think it bounces multiple times on the root)
What really annoyed me was i think you missed me on that last fight with it, and I ran into the kitten root anyway.
Yeah the Sos ranger
Entangle is really buggy sometimes and that has happened to me many times. I try and stay close to my pet when fighting other rangers so I can sick my pet onto it if I get caught like that.
imo they should change it so its not so hit and miss. Right now it will either win you a fight or do absolutely nothing.
Thanks for the vid Xsorus! I have enjoyed watching your ranger vids over the past few months so I’m a bit sad this is the final one. I was happy I finally got a chance to duel you and now with firsthand experience I gotta say you are a beast!
Two main changes I would make to spirits:
1. Balance their buffs with how survivable they are. Atm they are far to squishy when compared to how powerful their passive abilities are.
Either:
-Buff the passives (longer boon durations or shorter internal cool downs) and keep them as squishy as they are now.
-Keep the passives the same strength they are now but increase the spirits survivability.
2. Change the way their activated skills work. Right now they are very hard to intentionally land on something and are risky because the spirit has to be in melee range where it will most likely get insta gibed by random aoe or cleave damage.
I think the best change would be to make them ground targetable like how Muddy terrain works. This alone would be an awesome buff to spirits and would greatly improve their effectiveness.
If you use two weapons and use 2 sigils , say Energy and Hydromancy , do you get the iceblast and 50% endurance on swap, or just one or the other ?
If you have them on the same weapon set then no they wont both proc.
If you have Hydromancy on one weapon set and Energy on the other then you will get chill or endurance on weapon swap depending wich sigil you are swapping too. The weapon swap sigils all have a cool down of 9 seconds i believe so you will always get an effect because weapon swap cool down is 10 seconds.
@jub, actually sigil of ice will still proc, sigils of the same type IE weapon swap, on crit, stack per kill, are the sigils that don’t play nice with the SAME TYPE of sigil.
On crit sigils and weapon swap sigils DO share cooldowns. Passive buff sigils and kill stacking sigils work with everything because they have no cooldown. Please test this stuff ingame before you post it to avoid spreading misinformation.
I have tried to solo Lupi on my ranger but couldn’t get past p3 because of the domes. With only two stability skills on 90+ second cool downs and no blinks I don’t think its possible on a ranger.
As for dungeons does it really matter if other professions do them a bit better? I don’t think professions need to be balanced in pve like in pvp, it seems people are just winging because they cant do task X as well as class Y. The current pve content isn’t even that challenging, at least not hard enough for class balance to be that important imo.
When I bought the slingshot, it didn’t add to my count. So I’m stuck at 6/7
I have:
Stick
Slingshot
Bomb
Whip
Candle
Shovel
Moto Breathand the heart, but I don’t think it counts.
Have you got the bauble purse? It counts towards the achievement.
Ok i found what was causing the problem. If you buy the candle in zone 3 instead of picking up the free one in zone 2 it wont recognize it. To fix it just jump on an alt that doesn’t have the candle yet and pick up the free one in zone 2.
Do you have the first Heart Container?
Yes I have the extra heart as well.
My Minor in Enhancement achievement is stuck at 6/7 even though I have all the items.
Items I have-
Digger – Whip – Bomb – Candle – Bauble Purse – Slingshot – Motos Breath
Is there any way I can fix it?
im stuck on 5/6 and have been looking for ages. im also stuck on 6/7 items so maybe the last area will give you an item?
(Vid)Legendary Elite – Natures Fury
I told you they would nerf it!
Does emphatic bond still work if your pet is dead? it’s a great trait for you but it’s also an absolute petslayer even with 20 in BM and a relatively high health pet in a wolf he will literally go down in a few seconds unless you have troll up and that’s without being focused by enemies at all, it annoys me to the point of rage how some of these are designed.
I’ve tried it (the setup I was considering earlier in here) I love the mobility troll offers you, not only offensively I feel it’s just as good while having to retreat but emphatic bond and pets don’t get along at all unless you enjoy seeing them die… what to do…
Drop emphatic bond and use healing spring instead of troll unguent. If you use a sword or greatsword healing spring outheals troll unguent as long as you use the leap finishers.
I’m really liking the look of gs now. Decent damage with a 3 second block on a 12 second cd traited.
Anyone who wants to try the sword on the Ranger should watch the vids posted here.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/1h-Sword-Autoattack-Explained/first#post856805
It explains all the mechanics of the sword + some tips and tricks. He also has some other vids on pet mechanics and ranger issues, even though some of them have changed since it was posted.
9.4k Maul on the heavy golem, was after the stealth nerf last patch too.
Got a chance to record some more, quality is pretty poor but its the best I could get.
Half of the reason warrior GS damage is so much better than everything else is all the damage traits that go with it.
- 12% damage bonus with full adrenaline*
- 9% crit chance bonus with full adrenaline*
- 10% GS damage bonus
- 20% reduced cooldown on all GS skills
- Gain might on crit when using GS (easily stack 10+might in a fight, going up to 25 when cleaving mobs.
(edited by Nugget.8031)
could you go into specifics? I’ve been trying to find something to replace my 0/0/30/10/30 bunker and I’ve never tried out traps exclusively before, other than sometimes using flame trap in dungeons.
I go 30 in skirmishing to pick up the master and grandmaster trap traits, for adept slot I use Primal reflexes but you can also go Pets prowess which is awesome when using cats or birds.
15 in Wilderness for protection on dodge, you can use anything for the major trait but I mainly use Vigorous renewal which goes well with healing spring.
10 nature magic for Natures protection or Natures bounty
15 in BM. I use Mighty swap because nothing else really fits. Loud whistle makes keeping your pets alive way easier and reduces the cooldown on quick swap quickness. Its also great with double canines because pet swap resets both the activated and non activated pet abilities so they can fire off brutal charge+howl every ~15 seconds instead of 20.
For gear I use Apothecary armor and weapons with rapid trinkets from the temples with clerics jewels in them. If you got gold you can get the apothecary trinkets but they are like 35g ea.
Runes of the undead, they are effective and dirt cheap.
Double sigil of Energy for guaranteed dodge roll on weapon swap.
For utilities I mostly use Flame trap+Spike trap and a stun break or a signet in the third slot.
(edited by Nugget.8031)
Hehe I had a feeling the cave troll would be too hard. What about the giant shark in Sparkfly fen?
what build are you using?
0/30/15/10/15 with a mix of apothicary and rapid gear
Some footage from a few hours of WvW. My first vid so don’t expect any fancy flashy editing. This was recorded on a friends desktop so it was quite a challenge playing with an unfamiliar keyboard+mouse setup. I would like to upload more but my comp is a piece of kitten.
I don’t think you get the joke here, the big Spirit in the back tanking over half the camp was what i was referring to.
I was joking that a dev would mistake it for the ranger spirit elite (because none of them seem to know anything about the ranger class) then nerf it next patch because it soloed an entire supply camp lol.
Tonk the Giant Slayer!
That is one beast lizard. I wonder if he could survive against the troll in queensdale.
Next balance patch-
-Spirit of nature health reduced by 50%
-Spirit of nature regen removed
-Spirit of nature duration reduced to 30 seconds
After the eb nerf I have been using 0/30/15/10/15 and rolling with healing spring
awsome vid! also that’s the first time I’ve ever seen two greatsword rangers fight each other.
I recommend watching the vids on this page if your new and plan on using the sword a lot.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/1h-Sword-Autoattack-Explained
Honestly I’m annoyed that they changed the white Moa to a chill. White Moa + Fern Hound was great for a bunker as you had two sources of regen. Now we have a chill that never really lands on a pet from a family we really have no interest using.
Moas are decent in dungeons. 3k aoe heal + fury or protection every pet swap is nice and they are quite tanky.
If you hit things with the sword auto while you don’t have a target it will leap for the full distance. Also if your target is at range and you hit something next to you it will try and leap to your target.
For movement you can use sword 2 just turn to the opposite direction you want to travel in for the first part of the chain.
you could chain some crazy cc together with that kitten.
wolf knockdown > fear >petswap> hyena knockdown > hyena pet knockdown > shortbow daze > greatsword daze > technobabble >petswap> wolf knockdown> fear.
2+2>petswap>2+2+2+2+5>petswap>2+2……. 21 seconds of cc back to back.
Better hope you got some stability otherwise you gonna be kissing the dirt.
poor necros :\
What about something like
prety much a glass cannon build with 3k armor.
I mainly play condi builds however now that ascended gear is easier to get I’m thinking of trying a power build, something like this.
How well would that do in a wvw setting?
Imo 3 signets aint bad if you go BM bunker build. Signet of the Wild for the regen and Renewal for stunbreak +extra cond removal. Signet of the hunt lets your ravens stick on your target better to do more dmg while giving you a speed boost to kite better. It also makes blinding slash hit like a TRUCK.
Sword is only used by experienced rangers, which are a rare breed. Most people dont stick with the prof to appreciate having 2 evades on a low cd in addition to a disengage. 90% of sword users dont even bother to disable the autoattack.
Funny thing about auto attacks. They’re where most of a weapon’s damage comes from. You’re severely hampering your own damage output by disabling the auto attack just so you can choose when you want to root yourself.
I can sort of see a reasoning behind disabling the greatsword’s auto attack, since the evade on the third hit is so useful, and maul should be spammed for damage as often as possible. But in the case of the one handed sword, the only attack you want to be spamming for damage is the auto attack.
Turning off the auto attack doesn’t hamper you dps, you can still spam the attack manually. All it does is let control your dodges better.
For some reason if you stand just under 600 range and use flame blast without using detonate it will hit 3 times, one hit for passing through and two explosions.
Does using pet swap reset thier non activated abilities?
I’ve been playing around in the mists using jag and raven and cant see any difference. Just now I got my jag to hit a 7.7k maul followed by a 5k swipe and a 7k bite. That was fully self buffed on the heavy golem.
can i ask what buffs and set up you have those sound like nice numbers you have there
Rampage as one, Signet of the Wild, Sick em, Signet of the hunt (increase next hit by 50%) as well as 20 stacks of vulnerability from longbow+opening strikes with the pets prowess trait and 30 points in BM. I don’t use this its just something I threw together on the spot to get the biggest numbers.

Im not sure how to upload more than one pic so i just mushed them together. First hit was a Maul second hit was Bite two seconds later.

Condition Duration >>>> Condition Damage.
In sPVP yes, or anywhere in fact but outside of sPVP you can gain a lot more than the runes alone can provide with food which makes the pretty huge lump of condition damage you can gain from undead runes more interesting, even more so when you factor in, as you said removal tools. Although the food and runes of the nightmare together would be interesting to try, I don’t have those runes outside of the mists though.
Nightmare runes actually give +20% duration. The tool tip says +4% and +6% but i read somewhere that its +6% and +14%. Not sure if those are the exact numbers but it definitely gives 20% duration in total.
THAT actually makes them sound way better, that’s pretty huge for just runes alone. You say definitely though, have you tried it?
Yep Nightmare and lich both give 20% duration.
runes of the undead (added to pizza and 25 stacks of corruption) gives about 1600 condition damage, which is absolutely disgusting considering how much tank you have. i havent met any prof/spec that i couldnt melt. i will need a lot of convincing to give up undead!
Difference between Undead and Nightmare is basically 50 Toughness and the Bonus Condition damage from 5% of toughness is condition damage.
In exchange you get 10% condition duration which will add 1 second to your Torch Throw/SplitBlade and a few other bleeds that are close to that mark. That’s if you use Rare Veggie Pizza.
Oh and the number 6 is a fear….. Not sure how good it is, I know that it’ll fear sometimes on 100B’s for example or any channel attack….

Try and dodge their from stealth skill it stacks a ton of bleeds on you.
