meh i kinda guessed most would disagree but that’s how i feel about mez.
Here’s why. The 20 points in dueling tree are a no brainer, every single one of them is essential.
-Critical Infusion is amazing and for 5 points is a given.
-Phantasmal Fury is great especially for power/crit damage builds and shouldn’t be ignored.
-Sharper Images is,,,, sharper images, a great trait.
-Deceptive Evasion is the absolute best and worth spending 20 points just for it.Now in Illusions. Sure not everyone ALWAYS spend 30 points for Illusionary Persona but lets be fair here, its the best grandmaster trait from any tree on mez… Additional damage, 1 more sec of distortion (life savior), more stacks of confusion and one free 1sec daze, 5 more stacks of Vulnerability (if speced with Dazzling ) not to mention faster CD on all your shatter is kinda guuud. At the end, you’re left with 20 points -.- and lots of builds can be made with 20 points… Anyone else thinks mez is way too limited to build variation? No wonder almost everyone run 20/20/0/0/30.
This wouldn’t be a problem if we had free allocation of traits.
I never run Illusions 30. O.o
It gives a nice ability, but the simple fact that it requires so many points just to get is, I think, rather absurd. I’d rather put 20 points into Chaos to get reduced cooldown and extra toughness with my staff; that way I’m getting more boons+conditions via chaos armor and chaos storm, as well as more PRs, which is one of my favorite attacks in the game. When traited, I often have a PR cooldown of 6 seconds.
30 Illusions is nice, but necessary? Not so sure.
I was never running it either for the first couple of months of game’s release but now when im not it feels like a major downgrade to survivability and damage

i normally like to level up my first character but in gw2 it was boring as kitten. Ultra repetitive quests isn’t exactly what i’d call entertaining
For all you that have mega rigs but are not getting your super performance, would you happen to be running SLI/Crossfire? I’ve always avoided multi-gpu setups because lots of games just have problems with them. I’d rather drop more money on an single expensive card because it is much more reliable. At 1080 resolutions, multi-gpus really aren’t needed.
No. Im aware that sli/crossfire is mostly crap (gets much better now days though) but this is just bad, very poor optimization. Anyone else noticed that each time there’s a new nvidia driver it never improved performance of gw2 (in driver notes)? Nvidia themselves said its on anet’s end…
For now there’s nothing else but wvw. Unless to you grinding mats/money for hundred of hours is fun (for a legendary) the only thing that can keep you playing for hundreds of hours is wvw.
No. If i listen to anything is its giantbombs/GT’s podcasts.
None existent optimization is what’s up.
I run everything on high with 1920 by 1200 resolution and I get between 45 and 60 FPS. I am running a pretty solid system for those stats: i5 2500k and a foot long radeon board (I think it’s the hd 6770 but I’d have to double check to be sure and I’m currently afk).
and you’re saying 45fps is the minimum you’re achieving with a below mid range gpu when others with a 680 play at 15fps in wvw zergs?
The worse thing is that lowering detalis doesnt do a thing for me its either 50-60 fps or 20-30fps if theres alots of ppl on screen i would literaly have to lower resolution on some ridiculous 1024×768 to get stable 40-60fps. Some ppl are used to on lower fps, but sry its 2013 ~60fps is what you wanna have and 30fps borderlines with unplayable. I can play Tomb Rider maxed out (without tressFX), battlefield 3 maxed out + 2xMSAA and those games drops very rarely below 50fps yet in GW2 ive seen my fps drop to 7fps!!!!! in gigantic WvW battle i mean seroiously??? 7fps?!?!
pretty much what i said. But most importantly this is a pc exclusive game and not some crappy console port… optimization should be at least decent but for now its none existent.
Should become a 100b warrior
Is this change only for WvW or for PvE too? I’m a PvE mesmer, tbh I think confusion is really underwhelming there, it’s not worth to build on that because most of the time it wears off before the mob would attack. Really poor choice to nerf an already UP condition, well even if they split it and it won’t affect PvE it’s still wouldn’t matter as it will remain useless in PvE. Anet should stop dumbing the game down, if new players can’t bring condi removals/spam 1 while under confusion, it’s really their problem. They might QQ, but eventually they’ll understand how it works and they’ll get better. If they make everything easier, those new players will never learn how things work, as all what they will see is spamming autoattack is the best way to play. Waiting for the day when arenanet removes our clones because it’s too “confusing” for new players…
And I really think instead of nerfing confusion they should tweak it. Why doesn’t it stacking duration instead? Let’s say confusion deals X damage for each ability used and the X dmg can be increased with more condition damage.
And what kind of damage do you suggest confusion should be dealing, 100’s or go over 1k? Because if its something like 250 damage with 1500 condi damage it’ll just be Retaliation 2.0 and we don’t need that. Confusion was a perfect condi that didn’t need any balance (bleed/burn/poison stack should be balanced way before confusion…) in wvw. In pve its broken since day one, in spvp they’ve killed it because? OP rofl all they succeeded at doing in spvp is force ALL mesmers run a power build so success anet, gz.
Meh. As I said on a WvW thread about this very subject: They would listen to the QQers. Thanks for reaming a good zerg-counter. Worst part is, if they’d went with a 25-33% drop, instead of half … it’d still punish your target, but not be OMGWTFBBQ powerful.
OTOH, the Signet change at least makes using my Condition Signet workable. Now, if we can get that bloody Vuln off of our Staves…
and be replaced by poison since we have none
Its funny that they haven’t even mentioned izerker fix, nice fail.
one question to anet though:
I have all rabid gear and even worked very very hard to get the ascended gear for my build. now my build is not vial at all anymore, so im being punished now and have to spend over 60g to get new sigils, runes, exotic armor and i have to start grinding for ascended gear all over again?
Good point. I personally have 16 pieces of Rabid armor (excluding rabid weapons/accessories), what exactly am i supposed to do with those now? I certainly hope its not ‘use it in pve’ cuz we all know how amazing mez condi/confusion builds are in pve…
Gah! Noo! I can’t watch the link. Can you be more specific about the changes? Is it a dam nerf? What are they doing to our precioussss?
will deal exact same crappy damage as it is in spvp. RIP glamour builds.
Anet announced today in a State of the Game they will be reducing the power of confusion, perhaps to 50% of what it is, like in sPvP.
So they want to make it useless again, fantastic.
Pretty much their goal, yes. As i’ve stated in mez forums i think they want 100% of mesmer players running same power builds in wvw/spvp and obviously pve because confusion always sucked in pve.
Just give me DX11.
I second that. Plus anti-aliasing with DX11 is so much better. At this point the game is jaggy as hell.
use sweetfx! FXAA is soooooo bad and the only AA option available in the game. They’ve made a decent art style to blur the hell out of it with stupid FXAA…
Just give me DX11.
hell yes i want some of dat too. I dunno if it was official or not but i remember hearing that anet may add DX11 support later on.
So it looks like they’re making confusion as useless as it is in spvp for wvw. Sad face… now 100% of mez will be power based just like in spvp.

I wish mystic toilet was deleted and instead all those rare and good looking skins dropped in one mega dungeon. Yes, its still RNG but you know all those skins are in one dungeon and even if you don’t get what you want you could always sell it and make a lot of money or buy the one you wanted/. Making items in mystic toilet decrease the reason to do dungeons.
This engine is still buggy as hell in its hardware detection and usage.
I´m about to do a core hardware upgrade from AMD (PhenomII 965) to Intel(3570k), and if this crappy & buggy performance still persists this game will be dead to me.Plain and simple.
@HawkMeister.
You might be dissapointed then. I’m running on i73770k, GTX680, SSD,16GB gaming ram. GW2’s performance (all settings on full specs) is still poor IMO because of its engine.
Could you elaborate on “poor”? Like, what exactly do you notice performance wise that causes you to believe you have performance issues? My specs are in my signature, obviously some of us are not the majority as far as our pc’s, but there’s nothing wrong with lower end. Just curious what you categorize as poor.
Also to the others who are comparing GW2 (an MMO) to single player games-stop it. Naught people, just don’t. :P
I would love to see the difference though when PVE no longer has culling. Then we could truly see how much the game takes as far as resources.
on FPS, less populated map avrg 115 frames, higher populated map avrg 75-85 fps and in WvW avrg 25-30 fps (after culling is removed)
additional info:when world boss chest loot is only soulbound, on claw of jormag event, 25-35 fps on avrg
it’s true, can’t compare MMOs with single player games like Skyrim for MMO specification needs to cater to the majority of gamers. However if I use Aion as comparison, Aion’s graphics and FPS is better.
Aions graphics were definitely more complex, and I did get good fps there. But that game is a huge resource hog… I read from wiki I think that GW2’s engine was a highly modified version of gw1. Granted this was probably cheaper, but in the long run they may have decreased the ability to optimize it very much beyond what it is. I mean could you imagine FFXIV using the same setup as FFXI…. But since you played Aion as well you probably remember when they did the hmm.. 2.0? Update or maybe 3.0 where they upped the graphics engine or something? Was that to an entirely different or upgraded engine? Or just a tweak? I ask because I wonder if GW2 could do the same. Not trying to get too much aion-age in the thread, but I think it is still relevant http://gameguide.na.aiononline.com/aion/Advanced+Graphics+Engine shows the type of advanced options the other NCsoft game had. PS from reading looks like it was 2.5 patch.
Define complexity. GW 2 graphics is already complex.
You character will adapt to graded slopes and a lift a leg higher than another
That was in demon’s souls an 09 game with extremely low budget, so not impressed there.
ummmmmm, skyrim do not have a problem with zerg. Games that do not have any type of multiplayer is a bad comparison because network is a extremely huge complexity. The problem with gw2, the game is extreme complex with combo fields and conditions which add pretty little to the game
BTW, no fps games have a problem with zergs because guns kill zergs….
GW2 is continuous getting optimized. If you haven’t the increase framerate since January, then you are pretty blind.
awesome optimization there lol have we gained 1 fps since game’s launch yet?
Lowering resolution helps too.
lol you’re suggesting to lower rez (from only 1080p) in 2013 o.O . I’m not playing on a Dell pc from bestbuy lol lowering rez should NEVER be an option.
Most people still don’t even have a high definition monitor with their PC’s, you do realize this? If your computer can’t handle the resolution, I would say it IS an option :P
No lol i can handle games like metro 2033 (without DoF) or TW2 (without ubersampling) maxed out, gw2 shouldn’t even be a question. The large majority of people using their pc’s to game are on 1080p screens.
metro 2033 is an old game. My laptop can handle it O_o. Can you handle high performance games that came out this year? Lara Croft? Crysis 3? Because Guild Wars 2 has highly improved graphics and is an MMO which in itself is very demanding. It also came out in 2012, not in 2010 (which is when metro came out). Then compare it to other MMOs that came out on the same year – how well can you run, for example, Terra?
edit: what game is TW2? I googled it, I don’t have it on my steam and have no idea what it is. I’m curious. Are you serious? Metro 2033 is in the top three most demanding games out now, yes, 2013… Tomb Raider all maxed without stupid stressfx runs at 50fps+ (this is far from a demanding game lol this is a console port…), crysis 3 maxed (shaders/shadows on high instead of Ultra tho) ran at 43-60 fps. TW2 is The Witcher 2, best looking third person game available in 2013 even though is a 2010 game (looks a gen ahead of crappy tomb raider 2013). I’m playing with a gtx570@ core 920 and i5 2500k@4.3… i shouldn’t be playing gw2 at ~15fps on the lowest possible settings in wvw.
it must be one of those glitches I was talking about then. When PC is far beyond the requirements, but for some reason game runs slower than it would on a calculator. I don’t really think that such hardware miss-matches will be fixed though.
There’s no such things. It could happen when your drivers are outdated, that’s it. Mine aren’t and the reason why gw2 runs so poorly is because its almost 100% cpu dependent, which is extremely stupid and the reason why the game runs at same fps (in zergs) no matter what settings your game is at. This is what needs to be addressed and in 8 months we got absolutely nothing, nothing to the point of not even mentioning later this year optimization.
LOL @ “almost 100% cpu dependent.”
Apparently my GPU is running at 80% because I have Internet Explorer open in the background, then.
good to know…
Lowering resolution helps too.

+1, needs more optimization. in the meantime, I’ve found that putting shaders on low gives me a nice FPS boost.
But shaders/textures is what makes the biggest difference in graphics-.- I can’t set those two to anything lower than High.
dunno, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal
Take a pic of your character on shaders low/mid/high and compare them three, there’s a huge difference.
Lowering resolution helps too.

What FPS are you looking for?
one that isn’t as bad as it has been since beta weekends.
+1, needs more optimization. in the meantime, I’ve found that putting shaders on low gives me a nice FPS boost.
But shaders/textures is what makes the biggest difference in graphics-.- I can’t set those two to anything lower than High.
this is important though. do i and many many MANY others with gaming rigs want to run the game at 18fps in wvw even if your settings are set to minimum? If their game was amazing looking like the witcher 2 and had as many players in wvw as we do then a 20fps is probably all you could achieve but gw2 graphics are,,,,,, mmo textures…
i don’t ask for raids, i ask for ANYTHING to keep me busy in pve, there’s nothing… gw1 had 12 man teams and that’s an 05 game… don’t see why gw2 couldn’t finally have its first hard dungeons with at least 10 players.
The game needs it badly but instead we get new ridiculously priced items (with juicy RNG) in gem store. Look at Skyrim for example, not only the game looks significantly better (modded of course) but in same amount of time they’ve achieved ~double frame rate. Time to optimize gw2, this is not a looker like Crysis 3 and should run waaay better than it is.
I forgot the times when devs were actually adding new skins to end game and not a kittening gem store…
i still don’t understand why the separate game from spvp/ and everything else. spvp is fun but in small batches. I wish I was able to bring my legendary, or just que or and hope in with my toon. there are so many builds that ONLY work in spvp and not in wvw, pve, or random dueling in open world. why cant you just bring your main into spvp? this would attract a lot of other players to just want to casually fight and not deal with zergs etc.
This. The main reason i will never get into spvp. Anet, i do not want to use your stupid preset Amulets… i want to use my pve accessories (ascended level items may be downgraded to exotic, i don’t care) and be able to equip all of them, not just a kittening amulet.
None. The only i’d make if it wasn’t of this boring and unplayable 100% world completion is the pistol (for mez which fits perfectly)
their useless filter has no use since 05 (gw1). If you have a filter in your game, don’t freaking ban some1 using the F word or remove your stupid filter.
Runes of the Mesmer x5
Ruby orb x1. Slightly better then full ruby orbs. (65power>10% crit damage and 20pre)thats wrong in so many ways
lol +10% crit damage on something that can hit for 8k (izerker) alone is waaaaaaaay better than pitiful 65 power but that’s not all, you also get 20 precision as bonus… Crit damage is more important on glassy builds that’s why i stick to 5 golemancer runes and 1 divinity.
the day anet decides to add a true dungeon that is half challenging is the day we “may” see something with over 5 players.
that’s cool n all but have they FINALLY fund a way to fix izerker/F1-F4 glitch on mez or do i have to wait five more months?
It does make a difference especially if you swap weapons a lot. 12sec CD on izerker is pretty much what it take for your weapon swap to CD. I only use these traits for GS and staff though (mainly for izerker/illusionary wave on GS and for Phase Retreat on staff).
power builds are certainly much better for pve but i’d like anet to do something to equal it with condi builds.
I asked this MONTHS ago and will ask again… WHEN will Sig of Illusion be fixed? When when when!? Do they even consider it as bugged? Cuz if not, wow…
a mez that knows sup, that’s all.
the angle from which it bleeds target should be increased but that’s all.
Souls series isn’t hard. If you don’t rush like would rush a cod game you will only die if 1. go in places where you aren’t supposed to got at low levels or die from traps. But yes i’d preferred dungeons to be like everything in dark souls over the crap we have for sure,.
with one hand on my keyboard and one on my mice.
Dungeons are poorly designed in gw2. Not a single dungeon is fun after a week or two…
