We’ve been on 6-8 hours every day this week and are getting burned out.
Dude! If it’s not fun, take a break. I expect this MMO to have a long run, and we’ll need you for future matches.
The Sea of Sorrows mother kittens administered a severe beating this AM between 5:30 and 7:30 EDT (GMT-4).
As far as I know, it’s still going on, but I had to leave to go to work.
Look out, SoR, those kittens are playing to win.
…Devil horns in a world that lacks a Christian faith and hence our earthly concept of the devil?
To be dully pedantic, Satan was introduced in the Old Testament, perhaps an influence from Zoroastrianism.
Buddhism and Hinduism have the concept of “demon”, and both Chinese and Japanese folk beliefs refer to malicious supernatural creatures.
In short, you don’t have to be a Christian to believe in the devil.
And if you have cross Keyser Söze, you will learn first hand that the devil is real. :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnGo6Qm0Wt8
I’d like the option to pick “first availabe” battleground in WvWvW. Once I’m in, I can always queue for the one that I’d rather have.
If this is already a feature, please tell me how to it.
Thanks!
The last thing I would want is for us to go down SoR’s road.
First off, SoR had one heck of a fun game against YB a couple of weeks ago. What a nail-biter! I enjoyed fighting against you kittens, and I think anyone who transfers to your server will like it.
As “going down SoR’s road”, this week we are in another bang-up game. There have been several lead changes between us and Sea of Sorrows, and lots of solid play varying from solo and small unit up to massive zerg. YMMV, but my experience has been that the queue times are not excessive as long as you are not picky about which map you start on.
Is the integer value in the upper-right corner of the character selection screen the number of WvWvW kills?
If not, what is it??
Thanks.

I have been fighting all week Fractal and I can guarantee that a lot of influential guilds have transfered to your server.
But earlier, Kohai posted:
All three servers are full, no more transfers for anyone.
Is there a convenient place to check server population and summaries of current guild registration? And what is the max population of a server?
Thanks!

any score updates? I am so antsy to get back to the fight!
I have to give the SoS kittens their due: they were executing one heck of an assault on Stonemist Castle, in the Eternal Battleground map. They were wearing down the southeast wall with siege equipment at Durios Gulch, while keeping the fighting for the most part just outside our walls.
I hated to tear myself away, but I need my job to pay the mortgage and to pay for my Internet. :-)
I must say at this point in the game i see Yaks Bend as a non human team they are more like never-ending re spawning mobs that will always be in the map for the week only Gate of Maddness is a team that is to be beaten. What Yaks Bend is doing is a true zerg “an never ending wave of guys” for point a larges group of ppl more like a blob not a zerg.
I missed it — what is it they are doing that is wrong? Zerging with lots of people? Respawning and coming back to fight?
The YB kittens fight hard, and I’ve seen them deploy in small combat teams at least as often as in hordes. We beat them last week and moved to a higher bracket, but I expect to be playing them again soon.
Unless they put flying ability in the game and forgot to tell us, it’s a flat out hack. I’m OK with dirty tricks, but this is beyond that.
Edit: Link removed by moderator
So orb hacking is fly hacking applied in the effort to take an orb?
In any event, it’s a rotten thing to do.
For the record, I haven’t seen any of my teammates flying. I’ll sure as kitten report them if I do.
(edited by Moderator)
What exactly is this “orb hacking” that I keep hearing so much about? (e.g., https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/10-19-Sanctum-of-Rall-vs-Crystal-Desert-vs-Sea-of-Sorrows/page/5#post494506)
Is it an exploit, a dirty trick, or just something folks wish the other side would not do?
I realize I’m speaking out of ignorance, but if folks on my server are such a big time orb hacking cheaters, you’d think we’d do a better job of hanging on to the kitten orbs.
It’s really impressive how many servers and enjoyable matchups are ruined by server transferring.
I don’t think WvW will be anything other than a cesspool of idiotically imbalanced matchups until server transfers are ended.
The orbs also seem custom designed to let a single hacker ruin the morale of thousands of players on two other servers.
No offense, man, but how does that post belong in this thread? The play this weekend was extremely competitive. Since Sunday evening the SoS mother kittens have been dominating, but I have not seen them do anything underhanded or even unsportsmanlike.
(OK, the two dudes dancing on my corpse was a little irritating, but I’m a SWTOR refugee; I have a thick enough skin to deal with the occasional kitten. :-) )
Their really needs to be a limit to the # of seige engines that can be placed within the lords room, because that is absolutely ridiculous.
This weekend I’ve had the experience of spending time and gold to build siege engines only to watch that effort go up in smoke when a site is overrun.
I hate getting showered with arrows, but lots o’ siege engines does not mean invulnerability, does not always pay off, and does not strike me as unfair.
We all know WvW isn’t perfect(Rendering…argh), but that doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome and fun. Thanks to SoR/CD for a fun weekend. This was probably the most entertaining weekend of WvW for me.
Great battles on SoR BL. Keep it up! See you guys on the battlefield.
Dude, you rock! I’ve had a ton of fun fighting you guys; just wish my folks had won more of the encounters.
I’ll be back for more as soon as I get off work. See ya!
As of 11:39 EDT (aka UTC-4, I think…), http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA has this 4-hour old report:
CD had 56,317 total, 45 income, no orbs,
SoS had 78290 total, 620 income, 2 orbs,
SoR had 89027 total, 30 income, 1 orb.
Anyone have anything more recent?
I’m guessing that by now, SoS has about 86,000? Since Sunday night they have been dominating the maps.
It’s utterly meaningless… whoever was at position 1 yesterday is irrelevant. This morning the Worlds all have totally different people on them, so the balance of power is changed and any automatic ranking system is completely broken.
TL;DR: the record does not support your claim.
I haven’t been studying the results, but I believe that Jade Quarry has been dominating from the start, and also that both Stormbluff Ise and Isle of Janthir have been top rated for quite a bit.
And haven’t everybody’s favorite underdogs (viz. Kaineng, Devona’s Rest, and Ferguson’s Crossing) have been consistently duking it out at the bottom?
My server, Sanctum of Rall, got thrashed some weeks, eeked out a narrow win a couple of weeks ago, and then crushed our opponents last week. This week we are in a tough fight with Sea of Sorrows; Crystal Desert is effective at the unit level, but apparently haven’t yet had the numbers to take a lead.
Don’t get me wrong — just on principle, I think that there should be a week or so delay before transfers from another server can play WvWvW. But I don’t think the rankings have been unduly influenced by server transfers.
Let’s go SoR!
Go! Go! Go! Go!
I am one PoI from completing the Black Citadel map; its x,y coordinates have it very close to the Bane waypoint, although apparently it is on a different level. (See attached screenshot.)
I have literally spent hours searching for this thing. It’s just not fun anymore. Any pointers as to how to get to that kitten?

Step one, lay down the great sword, pick up a real man’s weapon.
Which would be… Hammer? Mace?? Ax? Two axes??
@Defektive: I noticed you moving around a lot.
I’m a noob and I tend to fight flat-footed. Not an excuse, just an observation.
My only other MMO has been SWTOR, and for a combat-spec’d commando (roughly equivalent to the range-attack side of a Warrior), only the lame default attack is available if you are moving, so to do any significant damage, you have to hold still while firing.
But who am I kidding? I’m a noob, I don’t move enough. The better I got at SWTOR, the more I was dodging and juking around the WZs; I’ve got to bring that same approach to GW2.
I’ll certainly look for LoS opportunities, although there aren’t many of these if you are trying to take a point in sPvP.
Maybe the thing to do is kill the attacker, THEN take the point?
I play on Sanctum of Rall. The last 2 weeks I’ve been in an almost pure WvWvW binge, but the last couple of days I’ve broken it up with some sPvP.
Where is everybody? I actually played one game where the sides were 1 (me) against nobody. (See
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/1-man-game-in-sPvP/first#post449622
…Not the most challenging match I’ve played…)
I’ve played in several 1 vs. 2 and also a 1 vs. 1 match.
What gives?
I ended up in a 1 vs 1 sPvP, and was pretty much owned by a Ranger. (Background: my only other MMO experience is with SWTOR; I’m at lvl 80 but still a noob.)
My warrior uses a great sword for melee, a rifle for ranged.
I could not close with the Ranger to hit him with my sword, and his pets and rapid shooting greatly interfered with my attempts to use the rifle.
He was able to keep me foot-tangled and slow, even though I’ve got and use the “shake it off” utility.
In the 1 vs. 1 sPvP, he was able to reach a point I neutralized before I could turn it for even a second, so he had me 3 capped until I got sick of it and quit.
Any pointers for improving my sPvP? (Other than L2P — that’s exactly what I’m trying to do.)
Thanks.
Rebuilding gates is a good strategy unless their forces inside are enough to easily take the tower. You’re cutting off reinforcements.
It’s the first thing people defending any of the keeps should do once the enemy is through the first set of gates – destroy their rams/catapults/treb, lock them inside, and they’re screwed unless their initial force has enough manpower + supplies to finish off the second set of gates and everyone inside. Most of the time, people waste all of their supply setting up 5 rams to take down the first gate and have nothing left for the second.
That makes so much sense! I can’t wait to try locking the invaders in. If they have busted down the gate, what have you got to lose? If things go your way, your team could bag a bunch of ’em.
Thanks!

Maybe there is one and I’m just can’t find it, but it would be nice to have a link on the forum page to your inbox so that you could easily get to your private messages.
I get a notice for unread messages, which is nice. But I read a message at work that I wanted to access later (it had an URL I needed), and the only way I could find the message was to send myself a dummy PM.
…I speak for many people in our match-up when i say: quit announcing your accomplishments and let them speak for themselves…
I disagree,
I love reading Kaineng Tales, everybody love the underdog.
FWIW, I love reading about Kaineng, too, and I did not think the OP was in any was boastful or disrespectful.
@Zerospin writes:
I’m assuming you repaired the gate while they were escaping?
Er, no. Much more lame-brained. I ran up to a tower in which the enemy had just busted down the door and had already scampered out of the immediate courtyard. On seeing the big hole where the gate had been, something in my head said “this needs fixing”, and I built a fresh gate. The enemy were still inside with me; they came back and killed me in short order.
Dee Jay is right, this was a move of rare craft and brilliance.
I got back to the tower in time to participate in re-cappinng it; we knocked down my freshly built gate.
@Obed – I think it would be ‘bane’.
Yup. D’oh!

Edit
———
Personally, I like “Deathclaw” and “Dragonbain”, but I’m sure they’re not to everyone’s taste…
I’m a noob, and more than a few times I’ve played WvWvW during working hours or during the wee hours of the night, hoping to get easy scores.
It just hasn’t happened: there always seem to be plenty of opponents to offer plenty of fight.
Maybe NA folks with big gripes abut night cappers should try rolling on an EU server.
I loved the previous SoR match — totally gripping! The current match has not been anywhere near as entertaining.
I suffered through the early bits of the current match, when SoR was behind by 20K or so and could not get off the time. I tried to run a few guerrilla ops, mainly taking strong points. killing supply yaks, and pairing up with teammates to take supply outputs. But mostly I got eaten. It was depressing, but I kept at it. It was certainly a surprise to me when we started dominating, although it took awhile to take the lead.
And after SoR got the lead, what could we do but try to keep it?
I’m looking at our next match with some trepidation. I hope our recent transfers don’t flee immediately if we get in trouble, but ultimately, I’m only responsible for my own actions, and I intend to slug away, win or lose.
The Yak kittens are good fighters; I expect SoR will be seeing them again.
In WvWvW, I ran through a demolished gate, then turned and repaired it.
And then I fought with the mob of invaders that had broken down the gate. Lucky for me, repairing the gate meant that none of them were able to escape my wrath. Not!
When it dawned on me what I had done, I sure felt stupid. This did not cost my world the game. But I promise I will never make that mistake again.
The only other MMO I’ve played is SWTOR. My character, a charr warrior, has been lvl 80 for a few weeks but I still feel very much like a noob. Believe me, I get “pwned” plenty in sPvP, but..
Man alive, I love it! The pace is insane, I like the easy in and out, I really love feeling that, even though I was beat, it clearly was NOT that, despite my hours of grinding, my character was horribly out-geared.
In sPvP, I’m surprised that PuGs don’t coordinate more with chat, but I expect that to change over time. Certainly constructive use of chat has greatly increased in WvWvW.
One thing is sure: I won’t be going back to SWTOR.
As it is now i dont really see a point in guilds at all :|
WvWvW. They are a huge factor in that competition.
Consensual dueling would be a cool feature.
Ahem, that would be “bound to whom”, would it not?
(Ducking and covering….)
I’m with the OP on this one. But what word to pick? “Kitten” is a brilliant substitute for profanity, so it needs to be a good one.
How about “spastic”? So we would see, probably again and again:
- In spastic, you have real PvP!
- GW2 should have a group finder like spastic!
- GW2 will not be not a real MMO until it has spastic-style arenas.
- etc.
edited: “areas” → “arenas”. Sometimes spell check won’t save you.. :-(
(edited by Obed.7629)
Last night, I played a game of sPvP in which my side had one player (me) and the other side had none.
My team won. :-)
After capturing the 3 points, I entertained myself by trying to break in and kill the enemy lord. I had broken down the gate, killed his NPC guards and started on him when the game ended.
Maybe this isn’t a bug, but it sure seems like sub-optimal match formation.
My character is Hoorl, on Sanctum of Rall. I was playing around 10:30 pm, EDT. I entered the game by having the game browser NPC pick the first available game for me.
To what extent are the products generated by the Mystic Forge predictable? I’ve been throwing stuff in the forge as I level up in weapons crafting; should I be paying more attention to the relationship between the goes-intos and comes-out-ofs???
My charr is a lvl 80 warrior but I’ve just started crafting; last night was my very first go at it.
My goal is to craft a legendary great sword for personal use. After that, if it’s still fun, I’ll switch skills and try to craft a legendary rifle.
I’ve got two questions:
1. For arms crafting, will I level-up faster by crafting a variety of weapons? Or would I level up as fast by pumping out lots of the same item?
2. If I want to make a legendary great sword, should I focus on making great swords? I.e., is there some notion of “practice” with crafting a particular weapon? Or is a weapons craftsman equally skilled across all weapons, regardless of which have been previously crafted?
Thanks.
In WvWvW, it would be handy if there were a quick way to check the status of each of the 4 maps before you are in WvWvW, preferably shown in one dialog or screen.
This is less of a problem once you’re in WvWvW, since the map dialog will let you see into the other maps. But even here it would be handy to have the same stats we get for overall score (how many castles, how many towers…) broken out by map.
My character is a lvl 80 charr on Sanctum of Rall. I am exploring a very low level map, Wayfarer Foothills, that I hardly touched when leveling up; my character is nominally downgraded from 80 to 5.
I am one-shot killing NPCs with the default attack from my great sword. I’d love to do that against opponents in WvWvW, but here it makes the map a little less interesting.
I don’t remember being able to one-shot any NPCs except rats, rabbits, and frogs on my way up.
It’s not a big deal, but I was wondering: is the level nerf working as designed?
Thanks.
It’s the vista in Lightfoot Passage. I had actually found that one, but for some reason I was thinking that Ft. Trinity and the area south of it was in a different map. D’oh!
Thanks so much for your help.
@Thalimae.3406: I’m at work, but I can’t wait to get home and compare your list to my map.
I’ll also take it as an action item to get this list into the wiki.
Thanks!
For what it’s worth, I think that leveling PvE is brilliant. There is little more boring than being invulnerable and able to one-shot kill all the NPCs.
I only lack a single kitten vista to kitten complete the kitten Straits of Devastation kitten map, but I can’t kitten find it any kitten where.
Anyone kitten know where the kitten thing is?
Kitten! :-)
(Your kittens may vary…)
Seriously, could anyone help with this? I spent last night roaming through the areas of the map that I may have missed, but so far, no joy.
How embarrassing: this was user error. I did not realize that I needed to go to the pick up window to get my money, just the same as if I had purchased something.
Apologies.
