My charr needs a running start to make it to some of the views. But after combat, he is too tense to do get into his 4-legged lope.
Is there a quick way to get him to relax when he is not fighting? I end up jogging back and forth until he can break into his lope, but this can take a few minutes.
I have submitted this bug directly to support, but I was curious to see whether anyone else has seen it.
The Black Lion Trading Center short-changes me when I sell it valuable items: it increases my account only by the amount of coppers, but not silver. E.g., if the net amount it agrees to pay for an item is 5 silver and 10 copper, my account only increases by 10 copper.
It took awhile to notice this, in part because it never dawned on me that I needed to check my account after it claimed to have paid me.
I am steamed. And I’m not selling a kitten thing more to the BLTC until I hear that his has been fixed.
It’s a feature. Disable it by pressing CTRL/right-click on button 1 for rifle. See answer posted in forum thread

We have a winner! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks, Reashu.2734. I had completely misunderstood conditions and vengeance.
Even without the the high-level Discipline skill, there is a chance of rallying if you kill an opponent in the 15 seconds following your revival. I’ve been less lucky lately; maybe the odds change as you level up and fight higher rated opponents.
I guess that it’s time to start crafting.
That and dungeons are aspects of the game I have completely ignored. r

I expected a skill point, but I thought it would show up in my character’s traits. I guess I don’t really know what skill points are; I’ll read the documentation.

D’oh! Skill points are what you get for the chevron thingies.

I just hit 80, and was surprised to see that I still had an experience bar. But I am on my third pass at completing the bar, and I’ve not noticed any perks when I max the thing out.
Is there any advantage to getting “experience” points after you hit 80?

Hm it would appear that the rifles have been cursed.
I can verify that I curse them roundly when they get me in trouble with their spontaneous discharge.
Different strokes for different folks and all that. I’m 57 and having a ball. By day I’m a software engineer at a small start-up working on products for encrypting wireless traffic; by night I play a charr Warrior.
This is just my second MMO; I started on SWTOR back in their November beta and December launch. GW2 lacks the story and setting of SWTOR, but the mechanics of PvP and PvE are much, much better.
This quest was incredibly hard for me; it had me stumped for days. I leveled up to 80 while alternating between giving it a go and then taking a break with various dynamic missions.
All in all, it seemed like 3 or more days of beating my head against a wall, but the wall finally collapsed.
If you are interested, what worked for my charr Warrior was:
Use a ranged attack, and use the pillars for cover from the Mouth’s attacks. It will not pursue you, and its shots are slow, but they are devastating. Evading is imperative.
Your team will wipe, and your best shots will seemingly have no effect. Keep alive, keep rolling out of the way of its fire, keep taking your pot shots.
Do not attempt to heal your party members if it means absorbing shots from the Mouth.
Every now and then a spectral guard will separate from orbiting the Mouth and come after you. This is good: they are easy to kill, and it seems to weaken the Mouth when they die. Lure them behind a pillar to fight.
There are enemy NPCs that shuttle food to the Mouth. I had thought that assiduously killing these suckers off would weaken the Mouth, but there was not discernible effect.
If you stay alive long enough, a pair of your crew members will regen and start fighting the Mouth from close up. This is your opportunity to wear it down with your best ranged attacks. I advise against melee attacks, as the Mouth can stun you with one blow and kill you with the second.
When you see its HP start to decline, it is on the ropes. Keep alive and keep laying in the fire.
YMMV. Good hunting!
EDIT

According to the wiki article on Estate of Decay, killing (all?) the spectral guards revives your team.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that checkbox is clear on my options, and has been for some time.
So the search goes on. :-)
My character is Hoorl, a lvl 80 charr Warrior on “Sanctum of Rall”.
When I am carrying a rifle and there are hostiles in the vicinity, sometimes it spontaneously fires, even if no enemy is targeted. See this forum post forum for more details.
Is this a bug or a feature? If it’s a feature, how do I disable it?
Thanks.

There’s an option to stop auto-attack on target swap.
Yes, I have that set. But no joy. Zanier yet, there was no initial attack — I was trying to be discreet and not draw attention when the dad-gum rifle started firing on its own.
My character is a lvl 80 charr Warrior. In both PvP and PvE, it seems like I’m easy to knock down so that I’m fighting for my life. Worse, if I manage to rejuvenate, when I come to I often have a bunch of sparkles floating around my upper body (these are conditions?) and drop down dead after a few steps. This is despite using elite CDs that are supposed to cure conditions. I end up frantically trying to collect dropped loot from my kills in order to defray the cost of teleportation and repairs.
I don’t know how to make this better, and would appreciate any advice.
My elite skills are
- “Healing Surge”, which I think everyone starts out with,
- “Shake it Off”, which cures a condition and breaks a stun,
- “Signet of Might”, which increases might,
- “Signet of Stamina”, which is supposed to cure ALL conditions, and
- “Charzooka”, which is pure fun. :-)
My traits are:
- 1920 power
- 1260 precision
- 1238 toughness
- 1311 vitality
And my un-nerfed HP is 23,172.
Have I misdiagnosed the problem? What can I do so that I’m not a fragile glass cannon?
Thanks.
@rhodoc: You wrote:
> Characters doesnt initiate an attack automatically even auto-attack is enabled
That is contrary to my experience.
Just this morning, my character was in an area with lots of hostile NPCs. I was trying to be discreet and identify a target to engage that would draw in the fewest add-ons, when “boom!” my rifle fired, and would not stop firing. My fingers were nowhere near the keys.
My character is a charr warrior; I just hit 80, although I am only at the lvl 72 quest.
I NEVER want my character to initiate an attack automatically. It’s OK if there is a default target when I press a button, but it this random, spontaneous shooting at NPCs just creates mobs for me to cope with.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to the setting for this. Sometimes I switch from rifle to sword to avoid this, but I’d prefer carrying my rifle until I’m in close combat.
Help?
And a freeze again tonight, so that is twice within the span of an hour.
Another thing that has been happening tonight is that that sometimes when fighting NPCs, the sound cuts out.
Are you having exceptionally high loads?
This does not belong in the bug reporting topic.
But, FWIW, I’ve had the time of my life playing a warrior charr, and I’ve been on a lot — 205 hours in the last 30 days.
Maybe the bar was not that high to please me? I’m a refugee from SWTOR, which was my first MMO.
In the last week, on at least 5 occasions my client has locked up so that it is completely unresponsive to any input. The display is frozen, although background sound and music continue.
On at least two of those times, the client has recovered, although once my character was assaulted and killed will the screen was locked.
The lockup is so severe that at lease on some occasions ALT-TAB does not minimize the app and put me back in Windows.
My server is Sanctum of Rall; my character is Hoorl, a level 78 charr. I am running Windows 7 home premium edition, 64 bit. 8 GB RAM, 8 cores, 3.1 GHz. Graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6800 series.
Given that ALT-TAB quits working, I’d think the problem is at my end except that this has just started to happen, and my /age is 205 hours 37 minutes over the last 30 days. (Maybe a Windows update is screwing things up?)

Please let me know if any additional info would be useful.
Thanks for the update.
This is a bit off topic, but I’ve come to GW2 from SWTOR, and it seems like the community here is from a very different, much nicer planet. The tone on the SWTOR forums and sometimes in the games online chat is just toxic; it’s refreshing to see that MMOs do not have to be that way.

I’m very happy you added “report gold sellers” as a specific option for reporting abusers. As Gathbard.6907 says, it is hard to decide whether unsolicited offers to purchase gold are scamming or spamming, but they are sure annoying.

@Jeffrey: thanks! I love this game. Funny thing is, the more frustrating the quest, the more endorphins I get when I solve it.
But I am NOT suggesting that ArenaNet go out of their way to make quests frustrating.
I’ll answer my own question: the path after you unlock the second door is hard to find, but it’s described here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/58049-temple-of-the-forgotten-god-personal-quest/
Right. It’s not bugged, just hard to find the next step. Here’s a link for those who would like a pointer: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/58049-temple-of-the-forgotten-god-personal-quest/
(ArenaNet: as you know, the problem I reported is not a bug.)
No one has mentioned what I love most about it, which is the awesome sound it makes when you fire it. :-)
Also, I think it is a help in WvWvW.
I presume many folks with charr characters have succeeded at the “Temple of the Forgotten God” quest, at level 72.
Any pointers? I get stumped at the 2nd door: After defeating the 2nd summoned character, I deposit the “essence of illusions” at the appropriate altar, but as far as I can tell no door opens; I can’t find a way to the next stage.
Gosh, am I ever frustrated. Four or five tries, and I get the same result every time.
There is a spot in the Temple that is in an air pocket rather than water; I have not succeeded in jumping out of the water. Is that what I have to do in order to progress?
Thanks.
@ArchieNorris.9674: it just stinks, doesn’t it? Rats.
You get further than me; I can unlock the first door but the 2nd one stays locked.
Phooey!
I think that “Temple of the Forgotten God” is bugged. I am following the directions about depositing the elixir, but the second time I try it looks like the gate that is supposed to open stays shut. (See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Temple-of-the-Forgotten-God-Door-stays-closed for my bug report.)
Any hints on getting through this quest? I am sure there are charr who have done it.
EDIT
OK, it is “illusory essence”. I put the 2nd one at the shrine, but the door does not unlock.
So this means an end to the personal story for my char. Bummer!
(edited by Obed.7629)
My character is a Blood Legion charr.
In “Temple of the Forgotten God”, the NPC and my character fight the first fight and get through the first door by leaving the elixir at the spot that wants the elixir.
We win the second fight with the challenge character. But after we deposit the elixir, using the dialog that says “deposit elixir”, the door stays locked.
I’ve tried it twice, with exactly the same result.
If you have any hints for a work-around, I’d be grateful. I am sure there are charr that have completed this quest.
EDIT
It is “illusory essence”, not elixir. I defeat the summoned opponent, pick up and successfully deposit the essence, but door 2 does not open.
I’ve tried wiping all the mob before the deposit, but no joy. I’ve tried running past the mob after I deposit the essence, but the door 2 is still locked.
So it’s PvP and filling out the maps for me. I’m already at 76 and I can’t get thru the lvl 72 quest; I guess this story has a sad and pathetic ending for me. :-(

id rather them do something like 20-30 points for every 10-15 seconds in combat in one of the defending nodes circles. or something that will not encourage 3 ppl sitting at the henge for a whole game just to lose and watch tv at the same time.
That is major: one of my favorite SWTOR WZs was ruined for me when so many folks started camping at a node to farm commendations. What a waste of time!
But it is solvable, I think: award no score if your team does not have the lead in points (i.e., either 1 vs. 0, 2 vs. 1, or 3 vs. 0), and no score for more than 1 guard of an uncontested point.
I hit the bug, too. But after I found this thread in the forums, I followed Walkingdead.7016’s advice, and everything was fine.
I.e., be very meticulous about killing off the undead in the vicinity of a tower before Tonn demolishes it.
[EDIT]
Or, maybe I just got lucky. In thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/story/Tower-Down-bugged/first#post217924, Content Designer Jeffrey Vaughn says:
Aha! Think I found it. It’s slated for the 10/1 update.
If you don’t want to wait, try this:
At the third tower, there are several spawns of undead. Kill the risen krait last. I think the problem is that one of the beach spawns does some other stuff, and was also part of the “Clear the beach” objective, which is based on killing about 3-4 total spawns, so if you did both at the same time, it would do the “other stuff” and not do the stuff it’s supposed to after the objective is completed.

I wonder, did anyone else feel a pang of sadness at the end of “Breaking the Bone Ship”? No doubt I need to spend less of my life playing GW2, but I got all choked up…
…on the news that Tonn bought the farm. Not that this was unexpected: his departing words were upbeat, but the clear message was that he didn’t think he would live through this action but it had to be done anyway.
I liked the little Asura from the start. Sure, he was arrogant, but also friendly, reliable, and good company.
Kudos to ArenaNet for making a story that gets you emotionally involved with a cartoonish, somewhat comic character.
For what it’s worth, I really love the voice acting from Trahearne. See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/audio/Love-Trahearne-s-voice-who-does-the-voice/first#post171812
I guess I perceive a quiet intensity where others see dullness?
“There’s no accountin’ for taste,” as we say down South. :-)
Oops. As Detahmaio.2014 points out, battle of kyhlo doesn’t have a waterfall cap spot.
I was playing Legacy of the Foefire. <blush intensity=“10”/>
But the “no glory for guarding” issue pertains to all the fights.
It’s not a biggie for me. In SWTOR, I end up defending all the time; it’s a weird combination of boredom and anxiety. I have much more fun to run from node to node.
(edited by Obed.7629)
If your team holds 2 points in sPvP, then holding on to what you have is a winning strategy, although guarding an uncontested point can cost you in score. (See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Not-much-glory-from-defending-a-point/first#post214162 for more detail.)
Perhaps there could be some score awarded for guarding a point even if it’s not being attacked?
But warning — you have to be extremely careful about this. SWTOR awards points for defending a node, and has a warzone in which point farmers often decide to sit at the node and concede the game. It’s very frustrating to be in a PuG in which two or more teammates decide to give up but not leave.
Perhaps only award a point for defense if the team is not trailing in points controlled, and only when a node is guarded by a single player.
I was playing “Battle of Kyhlo” with a PuG. My team was ahead by 100 points. I soloed the Waterfall, which was undefended, and then noted that we held another point, so as long as we held 2, we would increase our lead.
We won the game, but I was surprised to see how low my score was. But of course: I had not been running around neutralizing and taking points.
I like winning better than getting a high score, so I’ll probably make similar decisions in the future, but it seems to me that sPvP disincentivizes this approach.
EDIT
“Battle of Kyhlo” is not the scenario with the waterfall. I was actually playing “Legacy of the Foefire”. (Thanks, Detahmaio.2014!)
(edited by Obed.7629)
I hit this today. Rats. I’ll try Walkingdead.7016’s advice.
(edited by Obed.7629)
I’m used to WoW’s way of handling targeting in a lazy fashion— auto target on first attack, then keep attacking the same target til it’s dead. If I try to do the same thing here in GW2 with multiple nearby enemies, it does what the OP is describing and keeps reselecting targets for each attack.
SWTOR was my first MMO, and apparently it uses WoW style targeting, ‘cause what I’d like and expect is what ZenBones describes but that’s not the behavior of GW2.
@SeedsOfYggdrasil.6315: you wrote use ctrl+click to select your target manually then press t to lock on.
I will try that, but darn, that’s a lot of keyboard work. Thanks!
@Drathanne.7261: you wrote: You can click on the target and it will stay targeted
This is inconsistent with my experience. Maybe I have buggered my settings.
You also wrote: set a keybind to select nearest enemy and it will keep the target with all the moving around
I’m at work and my rig is at home. I might be remembering something I did for SWTOR, but i think that I have tried the option of auto-selecting the closest target and then disabled that because of the random retargeting. What I have tried has not stopped random retargeting, but I have not remapped any keys.
…and you wrote …It is handy that you do not have to actually click on a mob
Amen to that!
I think that Trahearne could read listings from a phone book and it would sound thoughtful and inspiring. Who is the voice actor?
@Drevin.6534: I tried the button. No joy, but thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep trying stuff.
@Aseyhe.2948: I do use the mouse button to look around, but that’s not culprit, or at least not always. This AM I was firing away at a target and out of the blue my character did a 180 turn and shot at another NPC, which much to my chagrin brought it into the fight when I already had my hands full.
Some hostile NPCs have red flags over their heads; perhaps this only occurs in dynamic events. (The flag is a red square with something white crossing like a St. Andrew’s Cross.)
What does the flag mean? I’ve assumed that it indicates an NPC that needs killing.
Thanks!
I am so in the tank for Trahearne. I love having this dude on my side.
My character is a Charr; I’m working on the retribution quest, and Trahearne has just been selected to lead the orders against Zhatain. I can’t think of a better choice.
Who is the voice actor? He really delivers.
In both PvE and PvP, when my character is fighting a group, sometimes a different opponent is targeted between shots or hits. Sometimes I’ll get re-targeted after every shot, despite repeatedly clicking on the desired target.
This is a disaster in regard to focus fire. And in PvE, it can bring wildlife into the fight when I’ve already got my hands full.
I’m new to MMOs; I could be fat-fingering a key somehow, but I don’t think that’s the entire explanation.
Anyone else see this? Any ideas as to how to avoid it?
Thanks!
