I believe that if the person who placed the siege logs off: that has an effect and causes them to disappear. There is at least a 30 min, no man rule but I also think the creator logging off also does this. I have seen siege not even being manned for hours sticking around while others simply poof for no reason even if I had ‘refreshed’ them.
It will despawn if the original builder is still logged on. I’ve seen it happen to siege equipement I had built; that’s how I learned about the despawn timer.
From the wiki, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Siege_weapon:
Siege weapons have a despawn timer of 30 minutes. If a player uses a siege weapon, the timer is reset. When the timer reaches 0, the siege weapon is removed from the game.
The OP writes:
Arrow carts are overpowered. The winning team always has most. And it makes capturing for the underdog next to impossible.
Siege equipment “rots” if it is not used for 30 minutes. Teams that build a lot of arrow carts when there is not a fight in progress or imminent are pretty much micturating their gold away.
EDIT
———
An arrowcart has been a godsend to me when I was solo-defending a tower. I don’t think it is true that this siege equipment always favors the currently winning side.

With my schedule, I often end up playing when another side dominates all maps and there are few of my teammates around.
It seems to me that the best thing I can do to help my side is try to kill as many supply dolyaks as possible. Starving fortresses for supplies can delay their upgrades, which will be a help when more of my team shows up.
It’s even possible (not to mention entertaining) to kite dolyaks away from a supply camp and kill them before they hit the road.
On the other hand, killing the sentries at strong points seems to do little more than stick a thumb into the enemy’s eye. (Not a bad thing, but not much help for my team.) And, in fact, it can get in the way of killing dolyaks, since changing the flag color of a strongpoint it is almost guaranteed to summon a crowd of enemy to retake it.
Probably helping the quaggan build a weather station is even less helpful: it takes a long time to solo this, and not nearly as much time as it does to destroy a weather station.
At least that’s how it seems to me. Your thoughts?
When scrolling over a point of interest on the map, bring up a tid-bit of information about that place. Give these areas a bit more meaning other that just places necessary to run by for map completion and for getting are two Gifts of Exploration.
I like it!
I was looking at my combat log to see how a thief managed to smoke my warrior so quickly. The lack of decent timestamp resolution (the nearest minute?) made the log a lot less useful than it might have been.
I’d like the option for timestamp resolution to the nearest tenth of a second.
If there is already an option to select finer resolution, please point me to it.
It’s fine with me if the same timestamp resolution is used for all logs.
Cheers!
Silly question, but is your warrior lv80?
Yup. So i should have access to all the skills & traits.
I’ve leveled almost exclusively and had lots o’ fun with great-sword and rifle, but I was thinking of giving dual-wield axes a try for my melee.
Have folks enjoyed dual wielding axes? Would dual-wield do better than the rather anemic single-wield axe values shown in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Warrior-weapons-guide/first#post491033?
I <3 my greatsword: a shot of adrenaline, attack with 100 blades, and I’m effectively a highly lethal 1-charr AOE.

To be honest, I’ve taken this opportunity to do a little weapons crafting. But now it’s past my bedtime.
In WvWvW, I took a few shots at an Asura, who I later figured out was a thief. He disappeared, then showed up next to me. Immediately I’m down, reduced to throwing rocks.
I thought I was one-shotted, but a view of the combat log shows
5093 stealth
427 Double Strike
5500 Cloak & Dagger
9501 Backstab
…various other strikes on the order of 1,000.
Jeez, I think I’ll try rolling a thief. It looks like fun!
So I guess this is not a bug. And, I have to say, it makes adding siege to an un-attacked tower a lot less fun.
EDIT

If I build an alpha golem directly in front of an altar of power that holds an orb, will the golem defend the orb even if no player on its team is nearby?
I’ve built a couple of golems in hope that this is so; I only do this if the keep is already maxed out in improvements, there is no other siege equipment or improvements under construction, and the supply depot is flush.
If this is just a pointless waste of gold, let me know and I’ll find some other way to spend it.
An arrow cart and a catapult, each about an hour old, simply disappeared from a tower. There was no enemy engagement; they had never been fired in action.
The catapult disappeared at about 11:00 GMT today (7:00 EDT local time). In was on the wall of the Greenbriar tower, in the Everdon Terrace borderland.
While I was gathering info to write up this note, an arrow cart on the wall similarly disappeared.
I was unhappy to see this, because my charr had hauled supplies to build this equipment from nearby depots, so as not to slow the progress of structural improvements to the tower.
This seems like a bug; I can understand if siege is destroyed in combat, but there had been no combat.
Is this a feature rather than a bug — does siege equipment have a really short lifte-span when it is not used?
Score update: here’s a 695 notched!
What I can’t reconcile is that it is easy to find a very sharp fight in this match. At the bleeding edge, you’d swear it was a desperate, near thing. It must boil down to numbers.

I really feel like SoR and SoS are kind of on the same path, sadly have to kill each other next week
Rivers! Bud!! You say that like it’s a bad thing!!!
I loved playing against you guys. I hope we would do just a bit better in the rematch, but either way I’d expect it to be fun.
In WvWvW, if I chat using “/yell” (a.k.a. “/map”), does the enemy hear it?
What is the range of “/team”? Does it cover all BLs?
What is the range of “/say”?
Thanks!
I would like an “are you sure” dialog for in-game mail deletion; I’ve accidentally deleted mail when it popped up on log in (some sort of special invitation, I imagine), but I was also taking hits from NPCs.
What I’d like even more would be an “undelete” ability, even if it was only undelete the mail that you deleted most recently, but I suppose you have your reasons for not implementing this feature.
Props to Tarnished Coast. I’ve been playing most of the day, and SoR has consistently maintained a PPT in the 600’s. Yet every time I run into TC, they are in a cohesive group causing lots of pain to me and my guys.
All I can figure is that there just aren’t enough of you in WvWvW, because at the unit level you kick kitten.
I’d much rather own nothing and have droves of hostiles running around to practice against, as opposed to owning everything and having nothing to do
We’re doing what we can to make you happy.
But yeah, some of the most fun I’ve had has been solo defense of a tower. I <3 arrow carts!
I still don’t like RUN. Bunch of chumps if you ask me.
I see a lot of the RUN guys doing yeoman work in WvWvW; I’m glad to have them on our server.

You are so right. Shucks. But that was one fun match; I hope this week’s turns out as exciting.
Structural Upgrades: These don’t need the supply in the keep at the time of purchase. The worker will take the supply, 10 at a time, to start the upgrade, and will continue back and forth until there is no supply left in the depot…
Dang. So would it follow that, if there is a significant chance that supplies could be interrupted, a structural upgrade would be a really bad idea, since it could leave a fort with no supplies when it comes under attack?
I may have been sabotaging SoR when I was trying to help.
If I purchase wall reinforcements, cannons, etc., does the fort have to have supplies on hand for them to be completed?
In this week’s match, it seems like some improvements I purchased went hours without being finished, and then the fort was captured.
I’m wondering if there is any way to speed things along.

I did, and now I owe you a medal. Send a forum PM to me with your SoS character name and I’ll see if I can get in-game cross-server mail to work. (I’ve sent a forum PM to you already. )
I’m at work now, but I’ll be playing GW2 around 21:30 GMT.
Have you taken a look at http://guildwars2hub.com/features/editorials/80-things-do-level-80/

BTW — I’m one quest from finishing my story, but I’ve been playing round-the-clock WvWvW for the last three weeks. It’s been a blast!
Deimos writes:
its a valid tactic.
I would not mind it if my team had the ability to do something about it, e.g., burning the corpses. Better yet if burning them caused additional armor damage!
It’s not right that a corpse can hang around and spy for his side. (Related issue: it’s not right that they can hang around and be forward-positioned reinforcements for their side.)
Probably the easiest fix would be to implement a timed auto-res to the nearest available waypoint. The timer interval only leads to be long enough to give someone a chance to glance at the map and pick his or her preferred res point; I’m guessing that a minute would be plenty.

they wouldnt have any chance if all the guards were linked and charged together and focused fire.
Nope, but they are stupid NPCs and can be kited. You can kite a dalyak, too.
I don’t think it is a problem with the game. Kiting to separate the NPCs for 1v1 kills is time-consuming and risky, but also fun.
I was solo defending a tower a couple of nights ago. My plan was to put a quick repair on the gate before running to the wall to use an arrow cart on the attackers.
Imagine my surprise when I was downed and killed even though the gate was still there. And someone pinned me with the “finish them off” flag!
So I guess that damaged gates are a bit porous?
If I want to finish the monthly I’m going to need another 55 kills in WvW, but they seem to come so rarely. How can I make sure I get more kills in WvW?
I’m not so good at PvP; I pick up most of my kills by finishing off enemy that my teammates have downed. I.e., go to the fight with friends and colleagues.

Is THAT what happened? From 25 Oct 20:00 GMT to 26 Oct 00:00 GMT SoS kept the lead during a time when SoR has often surged ahead against them. And we absolutely had to build a big lead during that time if we were going to win this thing, because SoS has owned 04:00 to 12:00 GMT.
Good match. You guys fought well and effectively when you were down by a lot, and you were merciless when you had a big lead.
I hope to get in a few more whacks at you in the closing hours of this match, but when it’s over, best of luck. It has been fun.

Heck, I’ve got a badge to lose. Sure, 1 badge says SoR wins.
@Kazak: thanks!
So I don’t have to pull an all-nighter, but playing hooky from work will sure be tempting.
[EDIT]
I believe that would be 17:00 GMT-7, aka midnight GMT.

What time do the current WvWvW matches end?
Sanctum of Rall is in a real slug-fest with Sea of Sorrows. I’ve got a feeling that I’ll be pulling an all-nighter this Friday — I’ll have to drink coffee instead of beer.

First and by far most important, THANKS for the update. Scores on http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA are often hours old, and when I’m at work I want to know what’s up.
Second, a kitten-head comment from me, we are on EDT until a week from Sunday — at 02:00 we go back and do 01:00 to 02:00 over.
I’ve started using GMT-4 (EDT) and GMT-5 (EST) for the benefit of folks from New Zealand (GMT+13), Australia (3 time zones, GMT+10, GMT+9, and GMT+8), and other spots that might not be familiar with US timezones.

But anyway, good job SoS. You can take anything when nobody is there. Takes true skill to do that.
What on earth are you complaining about? If you want to reschedule your play so that SoS always has an opponent, knock yourself out. They are not doing anything wrong, and they also have to deal with times that most of their players are asleep but many SoR players are busy.
And for what it’s worth, it seems to me that the SoS kittens fight very effectively when they are outnumbered, and they keep fighting even when the score is very lopsided for SoR.
Score update, 25 Oct, 05:51 GMT-4
SoS never gives up!
Time to try to demoralize them. :-)
Can we just get a rematch of this tier next week? Maybe swap CD for another server and have a great 3 way match going? I think this is the closest to a real match I have been in. Its Wednesday and we are still talking about who will win.
As a unaffiliated refugee from DB, on SOR now, it’s so nice to see a competitive match this week. I’ve been really impressed w/ SOR’s resiliency. SOS takes over the map, SOR comes back.
Let’s give SoS props, too. I was playing when SoR had scores in the upper 600’s, and SoS were still aggressive and focused.
And if we don’t turn things around, they are going win the match!
I hope not, and I think we’ve got the numbers and skill to prevail, but gosh what fun!
Corpse dancing, jumping and other humilation tactics -- When are they acceptable?

I don’t do it — I’m more likely to bow if somehow I won a 1v1 — but it’s not big deal.
It’s just a game, you’re not really dead, and you can leave any time you like. And if they do it after you have kicked a bunch of kitten, it is because they are relieved to have finally downed you.
That screen is for sPvP stuff, so that question would be better asked over in the sPvP forum
Absolutely. Heck, that’s where I was looking for it to see if I had any responses. Sorry!
I’m at work so I can’t just try it and see if that clears things up, but I just don’t get the new “player rank” display.
See https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/quick-launch-button-update-590x485.jpg
Which is better, low numbers or high?
What is the “domain” of the rank values: global population? A scale of 1 to 100??
I see the numbers but I don’t know what they mean. :-(
All I wanted was overlook. Why must you ruin things for me SoR?
Server dramas aside, this has been a very fun match-up, kudos to both CD/SoR.
The protocol for sight-seeing is that you must first disarm and disrobe. If you are not naked and empty-handed, you’ll be shot on sight.
(Just kidding! We shoot naked characters, too.)
I.E. LEADER Mara
I don’t know what you are “IE-ing”, so I don’t know if you are praising or condemning, but Mara knows her stuff and has charisma. If you follow and listen to her, we will win.
I love posts where people ask a question, give the correct/most likely answer within the question, then ask for a different answer, for some reason.

Sorry. But I am an honestly puzzled noob making my best guesses. I was certainly surprised to see the cupboard bare every kitten place I looked, and I’m wondering what the kitten happened while I was asleep.
