How many characters do ppl have?

Time to hold my hand up and admit to being an altaholic.

28 characters on my main account and 2 spare slots at the moment, one used for key farming and the other waiting for a Revenant (assuming I don’t give in and make another Ranger before HoT release) 9 level 80s, I don’t have an Engineer yet, but I do have 2 guardians and 2 rangers.

8 on my Ironman account, one for each class, play it until dead then re roll. If i do get any to 80 I also want them to have world completion as well.

2 on my F2P account that I started purely to see if I had any problems using the SMS thing on a landline or if my IP address gave problems (I have heard some of us in the uK can have wandering address, fortunately mine seems to be working fine). Having started them it has me wondering just how far I can get with all the restrictions on the F2P account, at the moment my far vision is looking for a legendary. Don’t know if I’ll ever get there but the journey is the fun for me.

How many characters should you make, as many as you want and can afford the slots.

If I do get lucky on the F2P account, I know that I can always decide to upgrade to a full account, seeing at how often the original was on sale, I wouldn’t be surprised if after HOT has been out a year or two there are discounts on that.

I have been on the beta a couple of times but always left feeling that I don’t want the bits and pieces that are released i want the full thing and would rather wait for it and like you say there is no way to pass on a lucky drop in beta.

I play the game for the fun of playing, I’m not particularly competive or hardcore. The honorary skritt title really suits me, I love anything shiny, it doesn’t have to have good stats as long as it looks good. If I set myself a challenge then its just because I want to do it. At the end of the day its all just pixels, I walked away from WoW when I got bored and didn’t even regret the money i had spent in the shop for mounts, pets etc, I had fun at the time and that was what mattered to me.

As I said elsewhere anything like this tends to be variations on a theme. I did Ironman on WoW and had great fun doing it. This one has far too many rules for me, I like to keep things simple, but I do go with the no death of any kind, death by lag, death by dc etc are all deaths and mean delete and start over, but its up to everyone to decide their rules and stick to them.

I started a free to play account as i was unsure how much trouble the SMS thing would be, and wanted to test it on an account that didn’t matter before putting it on my main account. I’ve been playing on it and some of the restrictions are quite tight and it made me wonder just how far i could get on it with out spending anything, so no gems. This means very limited bag and bank space, just 2 character slots, very little in the way of boosts. I know the TP is limited but I’m not quite sure as to what, so I will probably decide to restrict myself to sell only. At the moment I am wondering about whether i could actually get a legendary on it. As i haven’t even got one on my main account it seems a little far fetched but is theoretically possible.

I do allow myself to die on this challenge though as that is not what it is abour.

How do i validate my account?

I don’t really know but the way it reads to me is that the ‘feature will unlock in 4 days’ means that ANet have to do something to unlock it, particularly if you have already verified it by email and SMS. If it was installed Wednesday 2nd September, I would assume it would be 4 working days, so Monday 7th or even Tuesday 8th depending what time you did it. Also remember that ANet works to US time so is probably 6-8 hours behind you.

I don’t mind exclusive items behind raids etc, but I do feel that there should be more exclusive items elsewhere, in WvW, PvP and even dropped from random mobs in open world.

One of the reasons I moved away from WoW was that so much high end gear was only available from Raids, not just armor and weapons, but recipes as well, so even as a crafter you couldn’t make good gear. I really hope that this isn’t the start of GW2 going down that slippery slope. At least i have a chance of crafting a legendary weapon and ascended armor at the moment.

Some people seem to think that being able to play ‘hardcore’ for several hours a day makes them better than people like myself who work all day and play for relaxation, I don’t want a game to feel like a job where you have to know exactly what to do, and do it perfectly and have 9 other people relying on you to do it right.

We all want shiny things to show we are better/luckier than everyone else so I feel that variations of those things should be available in all areas of game play.

You should be able to use the same client and desk top shortcut for any account unless you have done something to link that shortcut to a specific account. (I now have 3 shortcuts each going into a specific account but they don’t ask for email address and password its already set into them).

It should ask you to enter the email address and password, which if you change to the F2P account should go straight into that account. My one thought is have you verified the IP address by email and SMS (or other authenticator) if you haven’t done either of those it might stop you playing.

Also it might sound daft but make sure that the email and the password are exactly as you set up in the account creation section. I have done daft things like doing a .co.uk ending on a .com email address, or having the caps lock on by mistake.

There seems to be many variations on this theme, each with its own cans and can’t, the one rule that stand in all is death means character is deleted.

I did try the Ironman challenge in WoW and it was great fun, i have tried something similar here and it is still on going, I don’t play those characters often and only when I am fully awake and with it and my internet is stable. For me its no buffs, only equipment I pick up, I can buy bags, salvage kits and gathering tools but nothing else, no crafting, can sell on TP but not buy, and I aim to get world completion as well as level 80, yes that does mean I have to do the various jumping puzzle view points, and when I started I expected to have to do the WvW maps as well. The main thing with these challenges is you pick your rules and stick to them, the only reward is knowing you did it.

I also opened a F2P account yesterday, mainly to check whether I would have problems with the SMS authorisation thing, and whether, like some in the UK, I have a varying IP address or not. It has got me thinking how far can I go on that account without with out spending any £££s. At the moment I am wondering if I can get to the point of making a legendary. I would have to get everything myself, would only have beginning bank and bag slots, I know I’m limited on the trading post, but not sure yet just what I can and can’t buy and sell. The limits are already set in place, you just can’t upgrade the account or buy gems to help out. It also costs nothing to try.

Thanks for putting in the instructions, I have 2 accounts and I am thinking of getting a third, changing from one to another has always seemed such a pain. Now I have the standard shortcut for my main account which I always go in first so patching shouldn’t be a problem, and now a second short cut for my second account.

I admit it took a couple of attempts to get it to work, not due to anything wrong in the instructions, but due to my inability to follow them precisely. I was about to come on and say it didn’t work for me, then as i read it through again I realised where I was going wrong. If a computer muggle like me can manage it there is hope for you all.

I have just had another look at it and it definately says to enter a ‘mobile’ number. There is no landline option. I haven’t a clue about SMS (Silly Monitoring System?) so I don’t know what phones support it.

When it actually offers a landline option I might take it.

Is there a landline option for this. I thought there was supposed to be one, but when i went to look at adding it there was a request for a mobile phone number, and an option for a mobile that didn’t have SMS on it. Landlines weren’t mentioned.

I considered using my mobile but as it is rarely used, I normally spend half an hour trying to remember which pocket I left it in, only to find that in the couple of months since I last used it and forgot to turn it off, the battery has gone flat. And seeing as I can’t see the screen, using it is alway a bit of a problem.

I did look at the desktop authentification system but really there is very little said, ‘download this bit of random software and follow its instructions’ no information about how they work, or even links to the information.

It seems that it assumes that everyone has a smart phone and already knows how everything works. An authenticator to me is a small thing with a button that gives out a random row of numbers that is too small to read. Please try and remember that some of aren’t computer savvy and make all security changes as hand holding as the NPE is.

For the time being I’ll just have to keep telling it to remind me later each time I log in.

The one question I have, and hope someone might be around to answer it, can a single landline number be used for multiple accounts? I have two accounts and my partner has one., our mobile phones are used to make emergency phone calls only. I can’t text my eyesight is too bad to read the letters on the keys and even with a smart phone the text is too small for me to read anyway (at least until someone comes up with the 24" smartphone) or could there be an option for a mobile number with a ‘no text’ option so that it would call us the same as a landline.

Guild Halls for small guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Oenanthe.6549

Oenanthe.6549

It would be a shame if they denied Guild Halls to small guilds, during the CDI it was something that was mentioned time and again that people wanted Guild Halls accessable to all guilds, a small guild would just have to spend longer working on it.

I also wonder if ANet has a different idea of what size a small guild is. To me a small guild is one that normally consists of family and close friends and probably has no more than 4 or 5 players on at any one time., I wonder if ANet considers a guild with 10 or 11 members on at any time to be a small guild.

One option for us in small guilds might be to have a temporary rank and invite members of other small guilds on a temporary basis just to try and get the initial guild hall, we would then recipricate the favour and join their guild as a temporary member to help them get their hall.

However what I have read leads me to believe that we will have to do missions to gain any favour to improve the hall and missions are aimed at 6 players minimum (I believe) so as we rarely have more than 3 or 4 members on at any one time we are unlikely to be able to do missions.

So are you killing of personal guilds?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oenanthe.6549

As someone who is a member of two guilds, one tiny one just myself, my OH and a couple of friends, the other a personal guild just so I could have somewhere to store items needed for my Legendary without the worry of using them by accident, I am rather concerned about what has been said about the changes.

However while I haven’t watched any interview I have read the notes in the link that is in the opening post and two things stand out.

‘All guilds will be able to get access to everything given enough time’. This seems to indicate that they have taken into account that small guilds will want to have a guild hall even if it has to be a long term project for them.

People are also going on about how Influence is going and favour is being introduced and can be earned through missions. To me it reads more like influence and merits are being combined into a single guild currency known as Favour, which hopefully can be earned though not only missions but through ways we could get influence as well. The part of the interview that leads me to this opinion is ‘These currency changes were brought along in a big part because of the disparity between large and small guilds. It was hard for small guilds to keep up while large guilds would have so much influence they wouldn’t know what to do with it’

Amulets, accessories and others in wardrobe?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oenanthe.6549

Oenanthe.6549

Don’t know if this has been mentioned or is even new, but when checking the drop down select box in the hero pane wardrobe it sometimes gives for extra entries after ‘back’ items, for amulets, accessories, rings and gathering tools.

At the moment the first three don’t seem to show up much on the character model so I can’t quite understand why they are in the wardrobe, but the gem bought gathering tools do have obviously different effects so I could see it being done as skins.

The drop down box doesn’t always show it so it might be a bit of a bug and a left over from the equipment pane, but just wondering if others have noticed it or heard anything.

I have to agree that the drop rate for ecto seems lower than it was a few weeks ago, both me and my OH have noticed it. I used to recon that I would get 1-2 ectos per item on average, some would give 0 some would give 3, most in between. Now the average seems to be about 0.75 per yellow item. I normally use the Mystic salvage kits but I have started to use the spare BL ones I have sitting in the bank and even they seem to have a lower drop rate than they used to.

I don’t salvage hundreds of items, but I have been trying to collected ectos for my legendary so I have been slightly more aware of the drop rate than I was previously. I guess I just thought that Anet had decided there were too many ectos in the game and decided to reduce the number.

Accommodating Those With Visual Disabilities?

As some one else who is partially sighted with a problem that glasses etc won’t fix I can agree that the ability to re size specific items on the UI would be a really useful addition.

I have already set everything to the best compromise and it still leaves a bit to be desired. Small things like the chat box not fitting beside the skill keys, it has to be sited at the top or fits slightly high above the skills bar leaving a big gap below, a fraction smaller and it would fit.

I also have to be careful with the bank or BLTP screens they take up the whole height of the screen if I try moving them just a little then I lose the bottom section.

I know there are programmes to help with the general problem using a computer, and outside of games I do use one but they do not really help in game and only tend to magnify a specific section of the screen. normally where the mouse is which isn’t always what I would want when gaming.

Guard/Ele combo could work well, just a pointer that they are probably the most fragile pairing possible, Guardians, while they wear heavy armor have one of the lowest health pools in the game, Elementalists are renown for being glass cannons, dealing a lot of damage but not able to take the puniment.

One thing from experiance, if one of you is melee and the other ranged make sure that the ranged one lets you get into melee before they start attacking. There have been a number of times when playing with friends that I go melee only to find the mob dead by the time I get into combat.

Any pairing can work well, experiment with weapons and builds a bit to find out what works for you.

Dungeon Story's made soloable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oenanthe.6549

I admit I am one of those players who has never been able to solo a dungeon, story or otherwise. As I am not overly keen on pugs I only do dungeons when I feel i have no other option. As I want a legendary I am pugging a dungeon, which means that pugs have to put up with my less than optimum ability and knowledge of the dungeon, reading any amount of guides does not prepare me for actually being there. I haven’t even finished the personal story on any of my level 80s as knowing the last part is multiplayer has just put me off.

Some no doubt will ask why I don’t play single player games, I enjoy the open world and the general interaction with others, the ability to trade, chat and randomly help people. I just find that organised group play such as dungeons is not my thing.

I would therefore love to see at least story dungeons soloable. I would actually like to see an easy (solo) mode and a hard mode added to all the dungeons in addition to the normal mode.

All of you alts complaining about sitting around and being able to enjoy yourselves, some of us have to work you know. I was my puppet masters first creation, I wandered the whole of the known lands, found the hidden places, jumped the puzzles to reach the view points, I even had to learn how to survive against others from other worlds to explore in the mists. Then I got to have a rest as others turned up, I could sit around in Divinities Reach and enjoy the views, do a bit of crafting when I wanted. The others though are a bunch of peakittens, that Norn Guardian who likes to boast all the time, waves a fancy sword about, but if a moa gives her a hard stare she falls over. Then there is the thief, prancing around in fancy armor, showing off her pistol with its fancy insect in amber. Who made that pistol, me, who even went and found the amber and insect, Me. Then there is the Mesmer, someone really should tell her to put some decent cloths on, that outfit is fine for going to a party but for going out adventuring? just silly, and well I don’t want to even think about the Warrior, with his blond hair, oiled muscles and armor that really wouldn’t do much against a toothpick.

I had it quite for a while, could enjoy myself while others did the work, but now its all go and kill a few guards in the mists, or disrupt a caravan, you know the others aren’t up to it, and Jormag’s claw needs taking out, and while you’re out there stop by Beetleton and pick a few lettuce heads. Me pick lettuces, its riduculous, let the menials do that.

Then I noticed that along side MY Gifts of Exploration and Gifts of Battle new items appearing, mystic clovers from the forge, and i was sent to buy a blood stone shard with all those points I had work so hard to get, wood of all kinds, powerful blood, elaborate totems. I was a good huntsman and started to think something big was coming my way again, then I noticed the opal and crysocola orbs, they are needed in the Dreamer, I use a longbow, I wouldn’t be seen dead shooting out unicorns, then there is that little sylvari ranger looking smug, I had hardly noticed her, but now I look at her with her little short bow and think treacherous salads.

I am not entirely sure, but it does look like we might be railroaded into specific builds more, less choice to experiment and find a unique build of our own, even if it’s not the most efficient. I frequently end up with slightly odd builds as I am more concerned with personal survival while out roaming rather than specific DPS, etc cookie cutter builds.

In my opinion things start to go downhill when that choice is taken away. I know a certain other game, where every expansion meant that the talents were reworked and slowly took virtually all choice away so that players couldn’t ‘make mistakes’ with their builds.

Most of the player base does have a degree of intelligence, please let us make our own mistakes, and have our own eureka moments when we find a build that works specifically for us and our play style.

I have an axe weilding level 80 necro and don’t really understand the problems.

Each weapon has its own range, axe is a fairly close combat option, if you want more range i would suggest trying a different weapon, either scepter or staff.

Rending claws, as far as I can tell takes less than one second to cast, and in that time applies vulnerability then hits twice. I would assume that applying the vulnerability takes a bit of the time then you have the too attacks which is why they appear to come at the end of the sequence.

I doubt Anet will make changes to the weapons as each weapon is designed to have its own unique properties and flavour.

Just to clarify, there is a gem store. Gems can be bought with real money or gold. Most of what is available in the gem store is cosmetic, outfits, armor skins, minis, etc. Boosts are one item that may be considered more pay to win, as they can help with leveling speed, armor bonus etc, but don’t seem that major to me.

The best available items at the moment are ascended, mainly weapons that you craft for yourself and are account bound on aquire or trinkets and jewelry that you can get from the laurel vendor or by doing Fraclels.

Legendary weapons are the same level as acsended ones and can be crafted, bought from the Trading Post (like the AH).

Exotics are really the highest level you need to worry about for most characters, they come from drops, crafting, bought with karma or bought of the TP. You can get most exotic items for between 2 and 5g each, only a few are really expensive.

I would certainly not consider this a pay to win game.

Having played WoW from pre TBC I can say that it is very similar, yet very different, better is more of a personal opinion. I have tried WoD and found that for me it seems to have become rather stale where this is still fresh, after all it is still what no doubt later will be referred to as GW2 vanilla.

You will have far less skills at your disposal, particularly at low levels before many slots have been opened up, and many of the classes really seem to come into themselves at the higher levels 40+. With the exception of engineer all the classes have both ranged and melee options, it is possible to spec for a good ranged warrior or a melee ranger (similar to hunters) although they probably won’t be classed as meta builds. The stealth on the thief (similar to rogues) works entirely differently and is normally only active for short periods.

The one big difference is not trinity, you can have dps and support builds but there is no dedicated healer or tank.

And learn to dodge it really can save your life.

Try out several classes and races see what you enjoy. You only start with 5 character slots but more can be bought with gems, gems can be bought with really money (£, € or $) or with gold.

Mostly go out there, kill things , look at the scenery, but most of all have fun.

I love exploring, there are still very few maps that I know so well that I can predict exactly what I will come across. I play to relax after a day at work and just wandering where I want doing what I want is the best way for me. The only areas I really am less keen on are Dry Tops as I have problems with the crystal movements, and Silverwastes, as for me, the area is too busy. I love the larger empty spaces and smaller events.

As far as meta builds go, I just don’t bother about them. They are fine if you are willing to play like a machine and in one specific type of play. The one thing all the stats can not take into account is the player and their play style. I’ve tried meta builds in other games and never done well with them, while there are plenty of DPS metas, and for other games, tank and healer meta, I have yet to see a solo survivor meta worked out. I also love proving that it is possible to do well with out using a meta. Some of my favourite memories are the surprise I have heard when I DPSed a Holy Paladin in WoW when they were only meant to be able to heal, and in GW2 when a dungeon party realised that my Ranger pet was able to tank the boss and I was able to keep them up by careful switching while I rezzed other party members.

Enjoy yourself, play the build you want, but if a dungeon party asks for zerg only don’t be surprised if they can’t understand that other options can work well if you know how to play the way you want to play.

NEW Player coming from WoW

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Oenanthe.6549

Oenanthe.6549

Firstly welcome to GW2.

Secondly, don’t expect this to be the same as WoW. There are many similarities but there are far more differences.

I played WoW from just before TBC came out and came to GW2 at launch, even having played GW before WoW it was a steep learning curve. My best suggestion is to try each class and see if you like it. Also take it slow, in WoW a lot of content is aimed at max level characters in GW2 the game starts at level 1 and leveling is a major part of it. I see a lot of threads from people who have rushed to get to level 80 and then don’t feel they have anything to do.

As far as classes go, one thing you will notice is that you have far less skill to chose from, each weapon has a set of 5 skills and once they have all opened up you don’t gain any more weapon skills. Utility skills are where the variety is, but you only have 3 of those active at any one time and one elite skill. The art is to learn when to use the skill, just because something is off cooldown, doesn’t mean you use it straight away, timing is important.

I mained both rogue and hunter in WoW. Ranger and Hunter aren’t that different although Ranger does have good melee ability, something that the Hunter lost. Thieves are similar to Rogues but there is no permanent stealth ability, again it is a matter of timing. Necro and Warlock have similarities both are good at damage over time (conditions in GW2) and both have access to minions.

There are no specific healers or tanks in this game, every one can heal to an extent, and every one can tank but maintaining threat is far harder, one of the main skills to learn is to avoid damage, most importantly learn to use your dodge ability.

My best suggestion is to try different classes, and different weapon sets and most importanly have fun.

My personal choice of system at the moment would be 13th Age, very similar to 4th ed DnD, we tried 5th ed and found it was too much a step backwards. 13th Age is a fairly standard D20 system, so handles combat fairly well and with my group, fantasy games nearly always end up with combat, investigations and storytelling seem more geared to other genres, but that is partly down to systems. The classes already have different mechanics for different classes so there are already plenty of options for working out how GW2 classes would fit, and the multiclass system isn’t too bad so it would be possible to hark back to GW as well. 13th Age is also open licence so there is already a lot of fan created stuff that might be worth looking at.

I tried creating my own system for another fantasy game years ago, and while fun, it was incredibly hard work so I would rather adapt a system these days.

Would you play a Guild Wars 2 Tabletop RPG?

Its certainly something I would buy as I still enjoy table top RPGs as a more social way of playing to on the computer. Whether it actually got played would depend on the system, I hate to think how many game systems I have that have been played once, sometimes not even that much.

As far as loot goes, I do have a BIG stack of Munchkin decks so I could always use the treasure cards from them

When I read the title I had to check the thread to see what the filter had picked on, and then found out the ‘kitten’ filter was innocent on this occasion.

But I’ll add my vote to this, kitten ears would just be so neat.

I am no computer dev, and I guess it might be too hard to do, but I would love to see some gradual improvement, a bridge mended here, rubble cleared away there, that type of thing to make it look as if the workers were actually achieving something.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

I like the fact that the laurel is tied to log in, I like that each daily has its own rewards, what I don’t like is how specific each daily is.

If they are going to limit the dailies to 4 PvE options and then limit them to specific zones, I can see the high level areas becoming quieter than ever as all the dailies will have to be aimed at the lower level zones to give the lower level characters a chance. Instead of Queensdale events, Kryta events would be better, instead of the Caladon jungle wurm any world boss would do. Out of today’s 4, 2 of them are in level 1 -15 areas and one is in Lions Arch, only Maguma forager can be done in a high level zone.

Most of my pets aren’t named, mainly due to the naming problems back in the beginning when I just gave up trying to keep a name tag on them. Two however are.
A bear named Necessities
and a raven named Matthew (may not mean a lot unless you have read Neil Gaimen’s Sandman books)

Another 40+ female gamer signing in, don’t remember playing pong, but I do remember playing Repton on the BBC computers at school in the break times. I have a choice I can either veg in front of the telly watching soaps all evening or I can play games where I have to think a bit and react to things, I know which I prefer and hopefully it will help keep me a bit sharper too.

I’ll also admit to being a wargamer and a table top roleplayer, not long started running a 13th Age game for a group of friends who are all pretty much in their 40s. Gaming shouldn’t just be aimed at the young.

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

I’m going to add my voice to this thread in the hope that every little helps. I will try to keep calm and not flame about the change although like many others I feel strongly that it was a wrong move, and I will try and keep deleting the snide comments that keep slipping into this post.
My Suggestions.
Like many before me I believe there is a simple answer, a ‘custom amount’ button added to the new interface.
Alternatively, again as previously mentioned, more lower options for gem purchase, at the very least a 10 and 100 gem option. The gold side starts at 1G so it seems rather unbalanced to me.

You say that the intention was to make it more like a real life shopping experience, I would therefore suggest that you take inspiration from the various online currency conversion sites. A common lay out on these sites is to have two boxes, one for Pounds (I’m in the UK) and one for an alternative currency, say Dollars. You can either enter the amount of Pounds you want to spend and it will tell you the amount of Dollars you get for that, or you can enter the amount of Dollars you want to buy and it will tell you how many Pounds it will cost you. Something similar at the bottom of the tables on the new interface would solve most complaints, people could decide how many gems to buy or how much gold to sell and vice versa.

I am one of those people who change small amounts of gold into gems at regular intervals, I have been playing since launch and I do not think I have ever had 75 gold during that time.

On a good note, if the people here are representative of the player base and do refuse to exchange gold for gems, then hopefully the price will come down to where my current 7 gold can be used to buy the minimum 400 gems on the chart.

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

I know making a Guild Hall available for small guilds have been mentioned and pretty much approved of, however there is then mention of doing dungeons or events with 5 members present. I just want to say that there is small and then there is SMALL.

My guild is just me and 5 RL friends, we are lucky if there is 3 or 4 of us on at one time. I am not asking for it to be quick for a guild like mine to get a hall but please make it possible. We may not do a lot of the major content but we have great fun running around open world together and doing general events so I would ask that at least basic items are available in open world and not just from world boss events, major WvW or dungeons (we aren’t keen on PUGs). Influence, random drops, crafting, even gold are fine to put into getting a guild hall as they are readily available to all.

I know its our choice to be small but I want the guild hall available to all.

Firstly welcome to GW2.

Secondly if you expect to play the thief as you did a rogue in WoW you might be disappointed. There is far less use of stealth, I had a MoP max level rogue and still haven’t mastered the thief. It seems that you pop into stealth, make an attack and then pop out again, no remaining in stealth for long periods and sneaking around everything. The other thing is MOVE, don’t stand there thinking you are evading, you have to actually dodge attacks yourself, timing and reaction is far more important that knowing you skill rota.

If you find you aren’t too happy with the difference, try different classes, just because rogue was a WoW favorite, it doesn’t mean you won’t find you prefer a different class in GW2. There is far more variations in how you play each class, melee ranger, close in elementalist or heavy armor caster might prove to be more to your liking.

Since they have reworked to lower levels you are guided through it a little more than when it first came out, but you will still have to find events to take part in, the hearts, which are the closest to the questing you know from WoW are only part of the game.

The roles for dungeons and other events are far less defined, there is no set healer or tank, a thief that can dodge well can tank as well as a protection specced guardian.

Have fun and experiment.

Lag - EUROPE servers

I might as well add to this. I am based in the UK, use Virgin Media, and my home world is Piken Square.

Over the last month or so I have been experiencing both lag and disconnects at random intervals. Sometimes its just a case of light up the buttons and wait and see whether you or the mob is dead, lasting several seconds, or the teleporting character or mob when you or the mob suddenly appear back where you were a second a go.

The dc is slightly more odd, sometimes it dcs back to the character select screen after a longer lag period, other times it closes the program down completely, not even back to the login page, with or without an error message, and no warning of something being wrong.

My husband also plays and we can be playing at the same time but on different maps and one will have a problem while the other carries on fine. If we are running together, however if one lags or dcs, the other lags or dcs, seeming to indicate that the problem might be linked to the megaserver we are on.

Neither of of PvP or do much WvW so I can’t comment on those areas.

There are a couple of heart changes I am not overly keen on. In Queensdale having to dance to entertain the cows seems silly as opposed to feeding them to make them happy, and the one change I really hated was in Wayfarer foothills, you no longer have to feed the bear cubs the fish, only release the fish for them. I used to love catching the fish and offering it to the bear cubs.

One thing I think the devs do need to review is the aquatic mobs in areas before you get your underwater skills. I went into the lake beside the garrison in Queensdale only to find that the mobs were hostile and all I could do was swim away, not fight back. Learning to run away might be a useful skill, but I don’t think it was meant as a tutorial.

They could also do to move the Skill Points in low level areas or make it that you can access them even if they don’t show up, having to return to an area just to get the skill point is bad planning.

Wondering if you are still accepting new members? I’ll try and contact you in game as I am looking for another, preferably small guild to have a go at group stuff, dungeons etc. I’m on Piken Square normally, but I don’t think that is a problem these days with the mega servers. I’m in the UK and on most evenings.

I’ll add my plus one to this thread, I remember early on when my Norn Guardian picked up her first great sword, i looked at it and wondered if it was meant to be a sword or a cricket bat. There is a theory that some undead take more damage from bludgeoning weapons and others from slashing weapons, I wonder if they are trying to design swords that count as both.

My Ranger on the other hand is now quite happy she has Arc which actually looks like a bow that would work.
