A new map, sandstorms, really dark mines, all brilliant. A jumping puzzle to enter the zone, a pain in the neck. I don’t mind jumping puzzles when I am in the mind to do them and will quite happily try and try again to manage one, but when I have a zone to explore I want to be able to explore it, enjoy the scenery and atmosphere, not just feel frustrated by continually missing a jump which means I can’t get into the zone., unless that village with the mine in is the whole of the zone.
I don’t care if it on Steam as long as I don’t need Steam installed to play it. I had it for another game and got so fed up with the constant updating which seemed to take forever when I started my computer I gave up and uninstalled it and the game ended up abandoned.
Same problem with IE8. If I search for Guild Wars 2 Forum and click the direct link it doesn’t work, but if I use the WvW forum link it does.
Also find that the forum link at the top of the main page doesn’t work either.
What did you win in wow for ironman?
Nothing. You got a bit of prestige among the other people trying the challenge, but most of us did it purely because it was there.
My second sentence in my previous post was to make it an optional choice, if you don’t want it, don’t take it, but increase the reward relative to the penalty. Others may be putting it forward for everyone, I wanted to give people the choice.
To clarify, while Diablo 3 was mainly a single player game it had a multiplayer option so Hardcore characters can be played alongside normal ones.
I know very few players who either play hardcore or Ironman who were risk averse, part of the joy of it is taking the risks and winning, it was one reason I put in the world completion part, you can’t do that without taking a few risks.
If you play this way you accept the risks. Death due to disconnecting is probably the worst death to suffer.
I am another one who would like death to have more of a penalty attached to it, some of the time.
For me the obvious answer is to have a choice at character creation whether you create a normal character or one that suffers a more severe death penalty but better rewards in terms of loot etc.
Alternatively they could put in a reward for not dying, you already have an achievement for experience gained with out way porting, dying etc. Add another achievement for reaching level 80 without dying and one for world completion with out dying. complete with titles and chests (Been there, done that, didn’t die?)
It has been mentioned that greater death penalty would mean people didn’t play. If that were true no one would have played a hardcore character in Diablo, or taken part in the Ironman contest in WoW, both of which were popular.
I do have a few characters that I do play hardcore already, if they die they get deleted. My choice, and it does give a whole different mindset when playing.
As someone who is partially sighted myself, my advise is slightly different to that given by others but it partly depends on just how well you can see. Most have mentioned long distance weapons, such as staff and long bow. I actually find mid range weapons better as, if I am too far from my target, I can’t see what I am aiming at and trying to place AoEs is a nightmare.
My suggestion is coloured by my mains, an Axe/Torch Ranger and an Axe/Dagger Necro, using mainly wells, and a flesh golem as the only minion. Both of these have a pet to tank the enemy (although the flesh golem is a bit vague at times) and once I got used to tab targeting I can keep hitting automatically with out worrying about ground targeting. Both are fairly forgiving and don’t require you dodge too much.
My best suggestion is to try various professions and weapons and find whether you can cope best in melee, or at long or short range and then decide from there.
Why do you feel you have to have a main?
I have over 20 characters, two at 80, several in the 60s and 70s and the rest up and coming. My main is which ever I feel like playing at the time. A character can sit on the side lines for months and then I suddenly get the feeling that I would like to play one and it takes priority for a while until I feel I want to play something else.
As exotics are fairly easy to get and ascended gear isn’t that much better you don’t really lose out. It also means that I have a character for every occasion I am interested in and every play style I feel like with out having to switch everything around.
Don’t have a main, just have fun.
Five new weapons:
Flails, both one and two handed variants. (this should really be two choices I think) and of cause with anything from one to three heads.
Short one handed spear that could be used on land instead of just an aquatic version
Picks, often one handed but could be added as another two handed option if people wanted. Always was a good option against heavily armored opponents.
Quarter staff. Using a staff for magic is all very well but it is still useful to be able to hit someone with it.
Fans, to add something a bit different, I feel they would specifically suit mesmers, elementalists and thieves, and would particularly suit Canthan descended characters (at least until they bring out a Canthan expansion when they would fit perfectly).
Of cause I would like to see Great Axes and Cross bows added, but they have already been called for a lot, I wanted to add a bit more variety to the mix.
My main gripe at the moment is that Rangers have a wonderful choice of off hand weaponry but only the sword for main hand melee attacks, they could do with a bit more choice there.
I took part in the WoW Ironman challenge (EU) when it was popular and i have started to try something similar in GW2. However as the games are different I have decided on a different set of rules as it wasn’t anything vaguely official.
1: No partying up. Due to GW2 system where anyone can join in an event it makes it very difficult to entirely solo the game, what would you do if some one came and gave you a hand when you were killing something. So I accept that I will get help but I won’t join unofficial parties such as the champ train but if I come across an event I will join in.
2: I don’t have to finish a map before moving on, but as well as reaching level 80 with out dieing but I won’t class the challenge as finished until I have world completion.
3: I use any class I want to try it with, so far the best seems to be, unsurprisingly, Ranger.
4: I can use any heal that the class has access to once I have the skill points for it.
5 & 6: Traits and utilities can be chosen as normal
7: I only use bags, weapons and armor I pick up as loot, I allow myself to buy gathering tools and salvage kits for karma or gold. I can sell items on the TP but not buy anything from it.
8: I allow WP to be used, after all you have to run to them to find them originally and as I can only play my Ironman characters every now and then it is easier to leave them in a city and then WP out to where I want to start out from.
9: No buffs except what your class can do itself, so no guild buffs, no food etc.
10: As I mentioned earlier I do allow myself to gather nodes as I go along, as the nodes are out in the open world you are still in danger of being attacked so I don’t see it as free XP. I don’t craft with any of my characters as not only do I see that as easy XP it would also give me equipment I would be tempted to use.
11: Dead is all over and time to generate a new character. The downed state gave me a bit of a pause for thought and I have decided that as long as it doesn’t come up with the ‘defeated’ message and wanting me to respawn at a WP then it was acceptable to be downed and for some one to get me back up as long I hadn’t just lane there in the defeated state waiting for someone to come along.
Part of the problem with Ironman on GW2 is that there is no way to prove whether people have done what they have claimed or not unlike on WoW where the armory provide stat information on deaths etc (even do /deaths in chat doesn’t work as the chat carries over from one character to another when you log out and then back in). So for me it is just a personal challenge, I had great fun in WoW doing it and while some people will say it is easy to get to level 80 with out dieing I find it is easy to get distracted and just take on one too many mobs.
As many people in WoW found out, it can be far easier to die than you think, but it did lead to some wonderful posts on the forum.
This idea gets my full support, particularly having to find them out in the open world. I would even support it if it was just normal minis that you could defeat a champion or veteran to get without any special abilities, just buying them of the TP or gem store seems a waste.
We need more moas.
I find crafting useful for adding an odd level or two to alts rather than for the main part of leveling, and unless you go and gather the mats yourself it gets very expensive.
If you want fun fights than try and take out the veterans and later the champions solo, while join the Queensdale zerg will give you a champ kill I find it boring, much more fun is 3 or 4 level 80s trying to take out the giant in Nageling. You may not level as fast but the journey is the thing in this game not end level.
If they announced that it included Quaggan as a new player race then I might think it an April fool.
While I have to agree that most of this looks great, I am concerned about not gaining traits until level 30 and then only one every 6 levels. I like to feel I have gained something when I go up a level, it makes me wonder why they don’t just put in a level squish and change the max level to 16 or something and give us an advance every level. With out the appearance of some gain, a trait to chose or a new skill to try out, gaining a level starts to seem pointless, playing WoW MoP has already taught me that. It also doesn’t say if our current level 80s will keep their traits or if we will have to spend the points again, desperately trying to remember just what we had put where.
I guess it is time to start keeping all those instant level 20 scrolls that you get in birthday boxes as it certainly looks like the first few levels are going to be more of a drag than before.
I haven’t been playing my thief too long, only reach mid 30s level wise, but one thing i have learnt is to dodge forwards and then kite back to the mobs original point. I’ve ended up with a P/D build which seems very good at slowing them down while letting the poisons finish the mob off. May not be the optimum build but works pretty well for me.
While I agree with the OP this is mainly because I get annoyed at being forced to do specific large events where you can’t even see what is happening and just leave the toon on auto attack, just to try and get a few bits of ore. On the other hand I enjoy crafting so actually making the items when I have managed to get enough of the stuff won’t be a problem. I still feel it would have been better to make the asended items and materials tradeable so those that wanted to do the big events could and did not just end up with a bank full of worthless mats, and those of us who enjoy crafting would not feel forced to do the big events just to get the materials.
I don’t miss the trinity where the classes are so role orientated that they are useless for anything except their specific role and unless you have the perfect cookie cutter build you are branded as a noob.
In GW2 while every one is expected to do some dps, it does not need to be everyones main role if players can get away from the idea that they have to be top of the dps table to be playing their character correctly, (one reason I am so glad that there is no dps meter in the game).
GW2 does not specifically tell you what your role is, it is up to the player to work it out and then to work out how it best fits with their group. As an example the other day I was playing my thief (mid 30 level) and ended up taking on the Champ in Svanir’s Dome with one other player on their guardian ( I don’t know what level they were). It took a while to work things out but eventually I realised to concentrate on control, freezing it, slowing it etc and letting my poisons do damage while the guardian could run rings around it with the staff or go in melee for short bursts. It may not have been the fasted take down but it worked and more importantly we both had fun and felt like we had achieved something. Unfortunately some players have become so use to being spoon fed their role that they find they can not cope when it isn’t set out for them.
However the one thing I think ANet could improve is the reward system, if you spend the event rezzing people and playing a more supporting role you are penilised with the reward afterwards, often only getting a silver or bronze level of success instead of a gold.
I can understand how you feel, particularly if you have come from a more standard MMO, there is very little need for a party unless you intend to do dungeons, as everyone that takes part in an event gets rewarded whether they are in a party of not. I normally run solo as it is what I enjoy and if I end up teaming up with someone for an event I rarely party with them, just give a thanks afterwards and then we go our own ways.
However what I have noticed is the tendency for someone who is doing the same event as me to just send a party invite, which I just decline there is never any attempt to whisper me before the invite is sent to find out if I want to join them in a party.
So the best advise I can give is try and find a guild that you can help you (regularly check the guild recruitment page on the forums to check if there is one that sounds good to you), and always, ask if another person wants to be in a party before you send the invite.
I’m going to be adding you to my friends list which means I should appear on the followers section of your friends list, you can then decide if you want to change that to your friends list. If you notice that I am on line when you are having problems please feel free to contact me, and unless I am in the middle of something I can guest over to Vabbi and see if I can spot the problem from there. (I hadn’t even tried guesting until this so I have learn something too).
I am normally on line between 7.00 and 10.00 (UK time) weekdays and at various points through out most week ends.
Glad you managed to get together with some characters at least and don’t worry about it being a lot of characters it really isn’t, I am up to 19 characters now, even doubling up on race and class. Altoholisism isn’t dangerous and give plenty of choice.
It’s also worth remembering that while you are keeping the characters at the same level at the moment the down leveling system does mean that one can play their favourite level 80 and help the other out on a starter character with out totally over shadowing them.
If you are happy leveling separately then it isn’t a problem but you should be able to team up and help each other and I am terrible at leaving a puzzle unsolved (which is why the jumping puzzles are so frustrating to me).
One thought I have had is that you mention you are just about to go into the house to rescue Faren. The house he is chained in is in the Salma district which is an instanced area of the city, every character has their own version of it depending on what you have done in your personal story.
If you both meet up somewhere else, say outside the bank at Ministers waypoint and try and party there this might work, and then when one goes in to the Salma District the other should get the option to join them there (if you are both at the green star outside the Salma district gate you will both get the enter instance option and if you accept you will end up separated, you must chose to join the other player in their instance). Even though you are doing the same personal story it only counts for one character, you will have to do it twice once for each to actually move along the story line.
I would also like to find the answer to this problem, not only so you can play together but in case anyone in the future has a similar problem (and can find the thread). I recently had issues with another game with meant I could not even log in to it. Several other people on the forum were having a similar issue and eventually I came across a link to a post that was over a year old that gave a solution, I followed its advise and the problem was solved.
There is no reason you should just accept that you can not play together, choosing not to is different, but as you can see there are plenty of us willing to try and help find a solution.
Just a quick update as I have had a quick trial at guesting.
When you chose to guest the final part of the character select screen list becomes:
Current world name (guesting in …)
For me it read
Piken Square (guesting in Vabbi)
(My server is Piken square and I had decided to visit Vabbi)
I could still chat with friends and in guild chat and access my guild bank, I just couldn’t party up with someone on my home world.
If you are both in the same guild it is worth mentioning that the location name appears in yellow on the guild list not the normal white.
When you log out you automatically return to your normal world and the message about ‘guesting in’ disappears.
I’ll add Piken Square to the list of possibles, it is a busy and friendly server, and while it is the unofficial Role Playing server for the EU this rarely gets in the way if you don’t RP, and RP servers do tend to attract a slightly more mature player for some reason.
Sorry I wasn’t on the forums yesterday, but I will try and help again if I can.
It does sound like you have ended up on different worlds/servers somehow.
Firstly when you are both on and theoretically at the same point, check around you, you should both be seeing the same player characters running around, if you are seeing different people then you are not on the same server.
Secondly, when at the character select screen check the details. It should list
The character’s name
Level, Race, Profession
Representing: (Guild name) (assuming you are in a guild)
% Map complete
Current Location (the last place you were when you logged out)
Current world (The world your character is on) This can look similar to current location as the worlds are named after places in the GW world.
The last bit of information is the most important as that has to be the same for the two accounts. If somehow you chose different worlds or moved the account then you will not be able to party up and game together until you are on the same world either through moving one of the accounts or by guesting.
Remember that all characters on an account are on the same world unless they guest to a different world. I haven’t tried guesting as I like the server I am on but I will give it a try to see how it appears on the log in screen so I might be able to give you some more pointers later, unless someone else gets in first.
It would be a shame if you can’t group up as part of the fun of the game is being able to play together regardless of levels.
First thing I would suggest is to make sure you form a party. If you are in the same zone on the same server then you will see the other party members portraits coloured in, if they are in a different zone or in an overflow there will just be a silhouette instead.
If you are in a zone which has overflows, (Lion Arch, Gendaren Field etc at the moment) then if one of you goes into it, waits for it to fully load then the other party member goes in it normally seems to pull you into the same overflow. This isn’t garanteeed but has worked several times for myself and my husband to let us play together.
The other one to mention is that you can help in someone else’s personal story as long as you are in a party, they enter the instance normally and you should then get a message box asking if you want to join them, click yes and you will go into there instance, even if you have done that part of the personal story yourself.
The decisions you make when creating the character do have some effect on the personal story, and during the story you have to make choices which can lead you down different routes, however they do all seem to end up in the same place eventually. One other thing to mention, you will have to choose an order during the story and that choice does limit some of the armor skins available as each order has its own distinct look, this may not be important to you depending on how much you care about dressing up your character but I figured it was worth mentioning.
And having played WoW I can say how annoying it was to be in a party with a friend and then see them vanish in front of you just as you reached the part you needed the help with, as they went into a different phase, I hope Anet never introduce it or make it that parties stay together regardless.
While guardians can be tanky they don’t have to be, they really are versatile class that can be tanky, but can also be traited for damage and have a good ranged option as well. (my guardian’s only in the 60s so others may be able to give more information on it)
Rangers are fairly similar to hunters in WoW (I have a ranger and a hunter at max level) but here they have the option of going melee as well and the pet does require a bit more controlling to keep it alive. As with the hunter I find the ranger good for solo play as it has a high survivability.
Necro is my other max level character in GW2 and the only minion I use is the elite flesh golem to hold agro for me. Most of my utilities are the wells and I have traited those for ground targeting so i can place them where I want. This may not be the optimised build but I play for fun and its a build i enjoy and isn’t too squishy.
Partly your choice will depend what style of play you enjoy. I tend to go for solo exploring a lot of the time with only the occasional dungeon or zerg event, and very rarely in to wvw, never pvp. Rangers particularly don’t seem welcome in dungeon pugs as they are easy to play but hard to play well.
I admit I am slightly odd that while I am right handed I always use my mouse in my left had while gaming and my right hand on the keyboard (my original computer desk only had space for a mouse on the left hand side and I have never changed back). I normally end up with a very similar set up for all games I play which is.
Mouse: Used for moving, turning and looking around. I do have buttons 4 and 5 on the one I use bound to autorun and move back or jump depending on the game but these are in addition to keyboard keys.
My main attack keys are the numbers along the top of the keyboard not the keypad with 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 being my main attack keys I can then reach everything from 1 through to = easily by anchoring my first or last finger on its key and stretching across. This gives me enough keys for the heal skill, the utilities, the elite skill and a dodge button in easy reach.
Strafing right and left have been bound to e and t with move forward on the r button.
Target next enemy (i think, its my main targeting button anyway) is on the c key and used by the thumb. Weapon swap then is bound to the v key also activated by the thumb.
The F key skills (rangers pet control, ele’s attunements etc.) are then bound using the alt key combined with the numbers 5 to 8 as I can reach the alt button to the left of the space bar and keep my fingers on my main keys.
Every thing else just gets bound to the remaining keys as I feel fits.
It seems complicated but I have got used to it and it keeps my right hand in easy reach of most of my keys, I just need to make sure that my keyboard is pushed well over to the right side of my desk to stop my shoulder aching with twisting it too much.
As another ex WoW player, I think there are a couple of other things that need to be said, mainly, everyone wins. Help people out, if someone is struggling to kill a monster help them, you will both get XP and loot, there is no kill stealing. If someone is clearing the mobs around an ore node, help them, you will both be able to mine the node, fell the tree etc, there is no node stealing either. Everyone can resurrect people, and you get XP for doing it.
Take your time to look around the scenery is beautiful, using the specific viewpoints you even get XP for admiring the scenery.
Take your time to level, a lot of people complain about how little there is to do at end game, for me end game starts at level 1.
I mained a hunter in WoW from before TBC till after MoP, I don’t find the Ranger in GW2 as bad as a lot of people make out, you do have to control your pet yorself, it won’t move out of area effects with out you calling it back, and the F2 abilities can be a bit slow to respond. Remember to keep switching between your two active pets and using your healing to help keep it alive. Also a melee Ranger can work quite well, something that WoW gave up on if you want to try something different.
The best advise as far as characters go is try different classes and make sure you try all the weapons available before you decide what to take. I also understand that you can try your character at level 80 by going into sPvP in the Mists so you can see how it plays at high level, I am not sure about this as PvP is not something I am really interested in.

I vote for Jim, as tribute to most famous earthworm ever.
I don’t know if I’m thinking of the same earthworm as you, but I think Big Jim would suit.
I’m on Piken Square myself and it is a fairly busy server, however if you keep away from certain areas you shouldn’t have a problem. Queensdale, the human starting area is probably the worst with the champ train running there. Areas with current living story events are probably worth avoiding as well, which at the moment is Bloodtide Coast and Lornars Pass. Most of the mid level areas are fairly quiet and once you have a few levels you have a good choice of areas to play in, with the down leveling system you aren’t trapped in areas your level.
And trust me, when you are fighting for your life, praying that your heal recharges in time, and wondering why your cc abilities are always on cooldown when you need them, seeing another player arrive and knowing that there is a good chance they won’t ignore you is a wonderful feeling.
Welcome to the game and hope you have fun.
I have to agree with most of this, but like some others I don’t agree with the NPC to tell us what to do. I firmly believe that groups need to work out how to take a boss down with out being given a step by step guide, but I also hate the online guides for the same reason.
I think instead of a set time rotation, a way of kicking of the event would be a better idea. At the moment there are plenty of people wanting to do the event and having it running continuously wouldn’t be a problem. Give it a few months and things will have quietened down then people would be able to set it off themselves when they had a group together. I also believe that these events need to scale better for those times when there is only a dozen or so people in the area.
I’ve also always hated the instant death trick as well, not only because I die, that is quickly remedied but because of the lore mechanics. I haven’t been there for this one, but normal problems include:
Only player characters die, how does it know which are player characters,
Intelligent mobs don’t die, again how does an area effect know. (I know all area effects have these problems)
Animals don’t die
What keeps it in the nice confined area defined by the specific zone. and if the mountains stop it spreading then why doesn’t hiding behind a rock.
I guess the standard answer is ‘magic’ but somehow that always seems a bit lame.
Make it an achievement. Call it: “I was minding my own business when…”
There was something like that in WoW.
The big bad dragon would randomly kill players in the world – you got an Achie for it.
Hmmmm… can’t remember his name – was it Deathwing?
It was Deathwing and the achievement was ‘Stood in the Fire’ Instant death if you happened to be in the zone when he went over it.
Ironically there was a bug which meant that a few people actually survived the attack, I managed it myself on one character, not quite sure how, shame there wasn’t an extra achievement for that.
Best part of the patch as far as I’m concerned. Now my characters can always have their chosen mini with them, without either depositing it with other collectables or having junk items filling the invisible bag rather than being sold.
There are at least 5 different looks for each of the 3 types (light, medium and heavy) which are only available at level 80. However there are also numerous looks which can be obtained earlier in the game and can then be transmuted so that you can combine the look you want with the stats you want. Also some of the armors do look slightly different on different races and genders.
I am sure that someone will link one of the other sites, but a good place to start is in the wiki which you can access from the top of this page. The ‘quick links’ option will then take you to a page listing all the professions and from there you can go to the galleries which show a lot of the armor options available for each combination of class, race and gender, and of cause you can mix and match from the sets for your own unique look.
I recently raised a ticket with a similar request. I had accidently demoted myself to officer (silly mistake but I was having problems with the guild controls) and from all the officers in the guild, including one that was on line at the time, it seemed to randomly pick the only officer who has not been active for several months. Unfortunately the response from Anet, was that although they were working on a system to demote inactive leaders there was no way of doing it at the moment and the only method they could suggest was to try and contact the person in real life through social media etc. Fortunately for me it makes little difference whether I am officer or leader, so I just have to wait until something is in place.
So I would strongly suggest that if a guild has inactive officers they demote them just to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen.
Piken Square is the unofficial EU RP server, however, as someone who plays on Piken Square, I would say don’t let that put you off it as a server. It is well populated, and in general the population is friendly (you still get a few bad apples running the Queensdale train who think that no one else has the right to start a Champion event, but they are best ignored). Even in the less populated mid level zones you will normally come across a few other players out and about. As far as the Role Playing goes most of it is done with in guilds and if you leave them alone they will leave you alone.
Like others have said play around with characters and weapon sets before deciding what to stick to, unlike some games, there is a good choice of ranged or melee for for most classes, it is possible to build a good ranged guardian or a melee ranger. You start with 5 character slots and more can be bought with gems. Gems can be bought with normal currency (Pound Sterling or Euros) or in game gold so it it fairly easy to get 8 slots so you can have one of each class to try out.
One piece of advice, if you see an event going on mention it in map chat and link the nearest waypoint, (press control while clicking on the waypoint on your minimap will list it in chat). Particularly for champion events (the boss’s picture has a gold surround and crossed swords), doing this will mean that others in the are know where some thing is happening and will often come to help out.
Welcome to the game and hope you have fun.
I read a lot of the lore theory crafting but don’t normally post, however in this instance I think I will. The thumpers made me think of one thing, and it wasn’t GW2, however the coincidences are now mounting up.
Thumpers are used to summon worms.
Melange, a substance which along with allowing you to navigate by folding space (maybe used in Assura gate and Waypoint creation), also allows you to see the future. This video has allowed us to see the future and it involves great worms.
Quote ‘Thou shalt not create a machine in the image of a human mind’ brings to mind the watchknight.
So are we going to see level 500 cooking and a recipe for Melange, because as the quote goes, ‘The Spice must Flow’
And is one of the devs going to admit to being a Dune fan?
i have had a theory on bloodstone dust for a while, and why we receive masses and masses of it.
From what I understand Bloodstone dust can be refined into Bloodstone Bricks which people always put forward as the way you are meant to store larger quantities of it. Now to me it is fairly obvious what bricks are normally used to build.
HOUSES
Well I can hope
Its not just the return of the Quaggan empire, it all still Scarlet.
She has engineered an alliance between the Quaggans and the Black Lion Traders so that all those backpacks people have been getting are really magically transformed Quaggan. She will then cast the magic to transform them back, and then they will then strangle all the people wearing them.
This is how the Quaggan empire will return.
Hmm…
I haven’t even filed a lawsuit yet, and Tixx is offering me all of this. What does that tell you about the validity of my case? Should I take the presents? Should I file? Or should I trade it all for what’s behind door number three?
Take the presents, keep the picture on record and make sure he understands that you want a similar amount of presents each winterday.
Same reason all necromancer minions function underwater, except the elite one.
It’s nice to see a thread in which people admit to enjoying the game.
I’m another who goes out and explores just for sake of it, and gathers anything I come across, kind of farming, but not intensive.
Yesterday, on my level 80 ranger in Dredgehaunt Cliffs I came across a small town with a champ standing in the middle so I decided to have a go, simply because he was there. Fortunately I managed to take him down, although I did spend a couple of minutes running in circles trying to keep out of reach as I had let my pet die rather than swap them around at the right time (bad judgement on my part). For me that type of fight is far more fun than standing in a zerg train, even if leveling isn’t as quick, for me speed isn’t everything.
I don’t mind being alone in areas, its a big world and there shouldn’t be masses of people around every corner, it makes it more interesting, and if you do come across someone else it makes seeing them more special, particularly if they happen to arrive just at the right time in a champ fight.
I don’t know how much it actually effects but I notice that the higher salvage kits say that they have a better chance of giving the higher tier mats, so may be using a basic or even a crude salvage kit would help and save on buy the kits.
keep your filthy pecking worm eating flammable clocking food rations away from my asura’s home instance! Applied development lab is a lab, not a farm! No chickens in asura home! Or sylvari one for that matter! Charr seem to love eating them (“Meat” or “Meal” named chicken in town of Nageling:) and humans…well they got straw sticking out their boots anyway…Norn? I think they eat bears..for appetizers. But only good chicked for my pointy teethed genius is a fried one!
You are welcome to keep them from your Assura’s home instance but please do not deny the Sylvari this rich source of nutrients. Chicken guano is excelant for growing healthy plants and as some plants are carnivorous, so it should come as no surprise that some of us Sylvari are not ashamed to admit we can enjoy a chicken or two.
I would add that a few ducks, geese and turkeys would not go a miss, also pheasants could be added but only if their AI was set that they always ran towards the AOE.
In the end, if she is enjoying herself it doesn’t matter how she controls the character, however if she is finding it awkward then she might need to practice the alternatives.
One that hasn’t been suggested yet (as far as I can see) is to go into a city (a quiet one, not Lions Arch) and explore. Its good practice for moving, gives XP and there are always the vista and JP for a sense of achievement.
I nearly always use the mouse to move, either by holding down both buttons or keying the forth mouse button (if your mouse has one) to auto run then all you need worry about is turning, and not running off long drops (laugh if you want, I’m sure we have all done it)
Demongrub pits as its in Queensdale and I am frequently there doing any events and champs on the dailies, otherwise Spelunkers Delve I find is the easiest and only takes about about 30 seconds with no real fighting involved.
Leaderboards? Thats the first I had heard of them and as far as i’m concerned it might as well be the last. Yesterday I got the chest for reaching 4000 AP and I have been playing since launch, and you know what, I still enjoy playing.
If you find that you are getting too worked up about your place on the leaderboard or find that keeping up with the living story is too much for you to do, maybe it is time to sit back, ignore things like that, and relax. Either quit for a while and do other things or play in a more relaxed way.
For me work puts me under enough pressure to be bad for my health, I can’t let what I do in my free time do the same. Learn to sit back and watch the scenery, it is actually beautifully done.
