Recently I was perusing the GW2 Guru forums and came across a Guardian build by Strife that created a soft tank role called an anchor using a Great Sword, after reading this guide and deciding to build my Guardian around it I lamented that a build like this doesn’t have a place for a Shield.
After looking at numerous Guardian builds I have noticed one head scratching trends, none of them use Shields.
Riddle me this why would you create a class called a Guardian a name which suggests that they guard people or things and not have them tied strongly with a shield in a fantasy genre setting?
I suggest you buff shields and make them useful for players like me that want to feel more tank (oh I’m sorry I meant ANCHOR) like when we’re grouping.

Is actually up to date, looks like it was updated this month.
Well I meant scary as a compliment of course, I appreciate the aesthetic of the class, thank you for the builds.
New Necro looking for a viable Pet Build to grow into.
While leveling a Guardian I couldn’t help but notice this player running around with a personal army of scary looking beasts and I thought to my self this looks like what an old fashioned WoW Warlock should be rocking.
Now I want to roll a Necro, have an army of creepy pets, and be viable in Open World PVE, and casual 5 man runs at lvl 80.
I’m looking for a build, a leveling path suggestion, and gear input.
If there’s a relevant thread please point me in the right direction and I will educate my self.
Thank you.
I agree, I have been wanting to see this in a game for a long time now.
And no one says it’s a tank, more like a class with less focus on damage and more on defensive buffs and blocks.
I gotcha so it’s all about the phrasing and the lingo, I want what he’s selling; and make it a build that’s a little bit kitten as well ( kitten is synonymous with noob am I right)
Well admittedly the War Horn was supposedly OP by biblical standards if you take the Old Testament at face value :P
lolwut?!
Tanking isn’t needed in this game.
It may not be needed but we were given the impression that we could build any type of character that we wanted to be free of the Trinity, well I’m interested in building a character that is not needed because I enjoy that play style and Arenanet said that I could I have that freedom as well when this game was being developed.
I tried posting this before on my phone at work but I guess it never got posted, so here it is again. As an old school tank I think it would be pretty epic if Guardians could dual wield shields. The first 3 abilities could be offensive/defensive in nature.
1) Could be a single target attack like Shield bash.
2) Could be a AOE attack like Shield Swipe.
3) Could be an Interrupt.
all the primary weapon abilities could passively increase damage absorption with a decrease to DPS.
Keep the 4 and 5 abilities the same.
Go with a self healing build to increase aggro.
Which of the builds listed would make me more like a Trinity style tank?
I would like it better if I had a build that was pretty close to an old school tank; if any one has a link for me that would be pretty awesome.
What’s the closest I can get?
I understand that this game was designed to free players from the need to have a hard Trinity none the less they didn’t say they were going to restrict us from building our characters to function like an old fashioned Trinity role. Basically I am used to tanking, this is what I enjoy, this is how I would like to group. I am looking for a way to build my Guardian in way that I feel like a Tank. I want to go toe to toe with a foe, punch him in the face and go “now what mother *(&^%r” while I can have some self healing like a Death Knight, and aggro enough to feel some what like a tank. If this is not possible then I can always just play my Warrior and log in every once in awhile and spend most of my time in LotRO leveling one of their Guardians.
I can’t find my friends through the contact option. Before I bought GW2 my friend gave me a list of names and a server to look him up when I got around to buying GW2. I have a problem adding the names brought up random names that loosely resemble my friends characters names but are obviously the wrong characters. I’m obviously doing something wrong.
