If you have some friends that do raiding you could ask them to take you along when they are short or if they’d be willing to do some training. There’s usually a large number of training raids advertised on reddit ( might need some searching) and here’s something that will in general help, try out BGDM.

If it’s not your thing you can remove it but it can tell you how much might you are generating as well as giving you your damage. You don’t have to let others see your damage but anyone running BGDM will be able to see if you’re not giving enough might regardless of if you have it or not.

Other general warrior tips is stick and move trait will often be the difference in damage on power, try to not use your headbutt if you know CC is needed soon and check out Nike from DnT’s YouTube. Whatever your feeling towards him and his guild are he does know his stuff about warrior and has a decent amount of info there as well as warrior PoV in various fights.

I actually tried finding that but it doesn’t seem to be listed on Curse where most addons are listed, I went to BGDM which didn’t have something which blatantly said DOWNLOAD HERE, just a break down of the program when I was just expecting something simple and user friendly like Recount or Skada Meters, granted I was buzzed a little the night before but I wasn’t hammered.

If I’m running one of the required classes a PS Warrior yet have no Raid Experience would I still run into problems with a PUG after the early week rush as long as I’m straight with a commander?

Are you a competent player who knows his class well? Is your character appropriately geared for raiding? Is your reputation within the PvE community untarnished by suspect forum posting? If the answer to all of those is ‘yes’ then I can’t imagine that you’ll encounter any serious trouble.

I’ll admit I don’t know the class as well as my Reaper but unfortunately we all know how much that experience is valued in this current META. According to Woodenpotatoes standards I have Ascended in all the acceptable places other than the 6 Armor pieces. My forum activity has never been misleading or dishonest, I just happen to have unpopular opinions, that still makes me a man of integrity when it comes to the definition which should in the eyes of any one capable of critical thinking recognize an upstanding member of the community.

The forum thing doesn’t really matter lol. It sounds as if you have a geared L80 power berseker. Although the condi variant is more popular, you can use this version to get magnetite shards (raid currency) and use that to buy your ascended condi set.

I would advise you do the following three things first.
1. Practice many many hours on the training Golem’s in The Special Forces Training Area until you can get within 10-15% of the numbers on the qtfy.eu website for power warrior.
2. Watch videos of all the boss fights/ read mechanics (Dulfy is a good place) so you understand what you need to do.
3. Join training runs to experience the raid and learn the mechanics.

One of the big advantages of PS Warrior is there are virtually no “unique” mechnics you need to do in fights e.g. On Sabetha 2 DPS run cannons, On Sloth the 4 dps eat shrooms, on Matt someone reflects etc. Failing these unique mechanics can cause wipes. Not having to do this means you can learn the raids better and practice your rotations more.

Optional 4. Go to open world and just play the warrior. The more you play, you will get an understanding of the class.

If you do all of this then you shouldn’t have much trouble with raiding. I personally run a dps meter to track my own performance. That way you can see where you need to improve. Hardest thing is getting your first 50 Li, after that it gets easier and once you have 100+ you can pug pretty easily. Once you get to 150 Li your journey may stop if all you wanted was Leg Armor like me though.

The big things I get screwed up on are getting caught up running out of range of my banner ( which shouldn’t be a big problem since movement is contained within certain parameters during a raid encounter), and misfiring a 100 Blades because of mobs running around like crack heads (which shouldn’t be a problem because there should be one to 3 possible targets that are all controlled by a tank).

I’ll start watching some training videos, I think Woodenpotatoes has some detailed encounter videos.

Making heavy ASAP simply due to the fact that what I personally find valuable is exclusivity. Only other legendary I own is the pvp backpiece.

Exclusivity is the only reasonable explanation for Raids. It’s also the saddest.

I’m curious, what reasonable explanation are you referring to and how is exclusivity a sad thing?

Getting enjoyment from the misfortune of others is a sad thing.

Like The Ascension isn’t tied to PvP and Ad Infinitum isn’t tied to Fractals of the Mists? Both require you to play a LOT in their respective modes.

The point is, I have an option if I want a back item between two very different game modes. Not so for armour.

so your complaining anet hasnt commited suicide from caffeine working so hard to get 2 sets of Armour out at once and put them in different game modes at the same time? jesus dude give them some time! patience is a virtue.

Should have been the same armor set with different paths, that doesn’t require as much work since they’re still only making 3 armor sets.

Shame its raids only well that we know of…. Is this game become raids wars?

You must be new to the game, it was well known before that raids are the entrance to legendary armor…more than a year now.

You must be newer to the game than me because legendaries have been around longer than raids and it was pretty common knowledge that you didn’t need LIs from raids to make these legendaries because Raids did not exist (back in the good old days).

Rune solution is simple, but workable and actually useful. More the pity that they haven’t even mentioned anything about a possibility of legendary armor for nonraiders.

I would love my self some fractal themed legendary armor but i feel more than any game mode wvw needs it first.

I don’t WvW but this mode was a defining pinnacle for GW2 and I agree if any one deserves Lego Armor it’s those guys.

If that were really true then I would be welcomed with open arms as Power Great Sword Reaper.

It’s still going because it is still a significant concern for many people – and rather than start a dozen new threads, they searched and found one on the topic to post in, as directed by the forum conduct code (or Anet merged their thread into this one).

I only pop in now when I don’t have time to play the games I’m actually playing and paying.

The raids need an easy "story mode"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Oldirtbeard.9834

Oldirtbeard.9834

  • A story mode would not detract from the difficulty of the experience in regular raid modes.

First, we have a developer response on the topic here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/A-Plea-for-a-Raid-Story-Mode/first
Which says they are discussing it, nothing final, nothing actually being developed, but there is internal discussion about it. I’m sure when they have more to say they will and no amount of asking will make them discuss it faster, especially in threads that ask for an easy mode and stop there. “I want an easier mode” isn’t very constructive, nor useful for the developers. Actual suggestions on how to do it can expedite the process but a simple “I want” isn’t going to do a thing.

Second, the thread topic is about adding an easy mode for story, which means some way for all players to experience the story of Raids, removing Raid specific rewards.
The main issue with a story mode version is that it can become Arah story mode number 2. Worthless to run outside the story, so you run once and forget it even exists, then it gets hard to get people to run it with. I’m sure this is one of the most important problems with a story version, how do you make it not-useless while at the same time allow players of really low skills to complete? It’s a contradiction

There have been multiple suggestions on how to do this without being a waste of time:

Spectator mode

In some HoT instances, when you join another’s story, you fly around as this blue glowing ball since you’re not technically there according to the story.
So maybe similar can be applied here. You can interact with the npcs of the raid but are immune to damage, cant cast anything, and work outside the 10-person limit.

With this one, it will take the minimal amount of work to do (unless it’s hard to port the pvp spectator mode into pve, I don’t know how their coding works) and requires no reward balance at all. Also, some form of training can be achieved here as you watch how other players play in a live environment. This is probably the easiest method but is it worth it compared to watching a video on youtube?

Raid encounters as Fractals
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Fractal-versions-of-the-Raids/first

Lots of re-work to balance the encounters for 5 players, however no balancing of rewards needed at all, the reward system is there. Aside from the serious tweaking of mechanics, this version that requires 5 players will have minimal, if any, kind of training value for the real Raid, as the mechanics would need to be toned down, or require far less things to do at once.

And this is my own suggestion:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/A-Plea-for-a-Raid-Story-Mode/first

The idea is simple: remove later phases from fights. It won’t work on all bosses, some can be problematic, but for the majority it can work really well. It requires a bit of tweaking to make it work well, mostly hit points and enrage timers, but there is little need to change the mechanics, and very little (if any) reward balancing either. Also, in this mode the story mode can work as training too

Thank you for linking my thread, I’m glad that was considered a legitimate option by some one at least.

I’ve read this whole thread and I’ve got to say Blaze championed the positions of my faction quite strongly.

Unfortunately I’ve moved on for the foreseeable future. I can not see my self financially supporting a company that has no place for my Great Sword Reaper in the only End Game that matters now that it’s the only place you can hope to work toward Legendary Armor. ESO is a breath of fresh air, the pace is a bit slower and it’s refreshing to switch to a game controller for a change after almost 20 years of PC MMOs. Well good luck, I’m sure my $50 a month plus I used to spend on this game in gems won’t be missed.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

Oldirtbeard.9834

I don’t mind raid, but I DO mind when raid had become the main focus and we only get other stuff every 2-3 months rather than a few weeks.

I also mind some mini/skins, or even stories were locked for raid.

Raid has not become the main focus. There are four raid wings since the start of HoT and there have been four episodes of the living world. Given that everything else in HoT/PvE was available at HoT’s launch and raids weren’t, given that there are also PvE festivals, new & revamped fractals, and current events and other things going, Raids are clearly not the major focus of releases. Take into account the fact that Raids also require far, far fewer resources, it should be clear that Raids get the smallest possible share of focus.

Every game mode has locked skins; I’m not sure why you think Raids shouldn’t get the same treatment.

One game mode should never have exclusive access to Legendary equipment.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oldirtbeard.9834

In my opinion, it can almost all be linked back to how they have chosen to include raids in the game.

So, how did raids change the “identity” of the game? I admit they are only one small piece. They dont really detract from the development of other content. And, they are fairly well done (most of them).

The actual problem comes from the average players’ desire to experience the entire PVE picture – from the ambient creature sitting idly half way through a jumping puzzle to the last boss in the last raid wing.

A year and a half ago, players could experience every element of the PVE game without compromising how they played. Every profession, every build and every stat set was reasonably feasible in every part of the game. And, in the one area where more difficult content was being added (fractals), there was a scaling system.

Raids changed that. For the first time since launch, there was a part of the game that forced players to “optimize” their characters. There was no scaling or any real way for many players to retain their character’s identity and still have a reasonable chance at experiencing the content.

This single change has had huge repercussions in how players perceive the game and the direction it is now going. Now, the only players who get to experience it all are those who are willing to (at least partially) homogenize their builds, stat sets and playstyles.

And that is bad.

NOTE: I do not see challenging content or even raids as bad things in the game. It is definitely needed and fills a much needed niche. It is the lack of scaling (easy, hard mode) that creates this issue. Players who feel excluded from PVE content they perceive as endgame (especially when it relates to story) will grow (are growing and have grown) disillusioned with the game.

Nailed it, the only thing that’s missing is a mike drop.

Update of an idea i had (original comment below):
A spectator mode.
In some HoT instances, when you join another’s story, you fly around as this blue glowing ball since you’re not technically there according to the story.
So maybe similar can be applied here. You can interact with the npcs of the raid but are immune to damage, cant cast anything, and work outside the 10-person limit. That way youre there but “not” there. So you just hitch a ride. No rewards. I guess you can also watch others play and learn from that?

Original post:
So i was watching W.P.‘s videos about the lore of the currently released raid wings, particularly the latest one.. And it just makes me feel so sad that as a person who loves stories and lore, i’m completely locked out from the immersion and the tale because i cannot play this 10-man system which focuses on difficult and coordinated combat..

And i know that there’s a huge amount of people who agree with me (and quite a few who’ll argue against me), that there should be an easy-mode for these things. Like a soloable or maybe even a simplified, dungeon-party mode.

I mean, the first raid directly lead up to LS3’s blood mantle storyline, so it feels like the prologue was completely cut out for me in a “why are these guys suddenly relevant?” way..
And the latest raid wing deals with a cliffhanger from like 10 years ago.. Watching a video of someone narrating it and reading the wiki aint exactly as immersive as being in the moment.

I am aware that once a raid has been cleared, there is a roaming possibility, however, the dialogues wont be there anymore and you wont see the enemies..

Oh and before you say i should just stop whining, gear up and go raid, i have no intention on “training” for these bosses.. Most groups look for experienced raiders, and i know there are raiding guilds who help train new recruits… However I don’t want to spend so much time and gold on the combat when i dont care about the loot and only want the story.

TLDR; Raids need an ez-mode for noobs who dont want good loot but want story immersion.

I believe there should be a storymode for the Raids.

Honestly, this looks more like a thinly-veiled gripe about not being able to raid with necromancer than a sincere suggestion. So many of the OP’s posts trend that direction.

Raids are terrific as is, and the rewards are appropriate to the skill and coordination required to complete them. If you want LIs, raid. If you have trouble finding a group that accepts you, start your own (or join a raiding guild).

Don’t blame me for the Meta, if I were going to exclude whole classes it sure wouldn’t be Necro.

I’m not blaming you for the meta. I’m blaming you for being a crybaby about it simply because your preferred class isn’t good. You got 7 character slots you can easily use a couple of them for “meta” builds and use the rest on all the power greatsword necros you want.

Stop whining about not being able to raid and instead focus on what you can do to get into raids.

Right calling some one a whiner isn’t hostile or derogatory at all.

Standing up for my point of view doesn’t make me a whiner just because my view point is different than any one that Raids regularly; that’s kind of High School Jock mentality if you ask me.

How about new Fractals that offer an alternative path towards Legendary Armor, personally I don’t give a crap because the financial expenditure to make 6 Legs seems mind boggling.

This way each game mode keeps their exclusive skins, and content while the red headed unwanted classes can chill in Fractals while still having their own path to the armor that they paid access for while expecting the same path way for the Weapon Legs.

Not every guild can Man a Raid team, there are professions like Necromancer that have a more solid place in 5 Man content as opposed to Raids. Do I stick the Dagger in the off hand and keep the Axe in the main hand for the ranged while using the Dagger as a stat stick/speed boost with the Blood trait?

I’m just going to assume you’re complaining from a PvP/WvW/Raids perspective. Necro isn’t nearly as bad as Revenant at the moment but kids will be kids it seems. The class is fine, it needs some tweaks but it’s not anywhere near as bad as you’re claiming it to be. Necromancer as a class in ANY MMO is never meant to deal damage equal to that of Assassins or ‘Warriors’. Necromancers are about self-survivability and is usually the best class for soloers.

The reason why they don’t answer anything in forums anymore is because of EXACTLY how you’re acting right now. Kids constantly whine and complain to them because their ‘favorite’ class isn’t OP or God Tier. Coming from someone whose class has always been Necro throughout EVERY MMO I’ve played, ANET is doing Necro correctly. It’s weak, needs some tweaks, but it’s how Necro should be at its core. If you don’t like it, find a new class. It’s funny how the good players can still make the most out of what we’ve got, meanwhile there’s players like you who just whine, throw a tantrum, and leaves because you can’t make the most out of what we’ve got. That’s what differentiates a good Necro/Reaper from a bad one: adaptability.

Don’t go formulating your complaints off of ‘top tier’ stuff either, that’s a small percentage of the game. Reapers are still decent picks in Fractals, where I’m told yields more rewards than Raids anyways.

Clearly you’re still new to the game, GS got a nice buff in plenty of areas. Not what the general public wants, but the buffs do make a difference in GS whether you see it or not.

Finally, they will not remove Necro. It’s a core Profession, if they temporarily remove any Profession it will most likely be Revenant since it’s far more buggy, clunky and generally unfinished compared to Necro. So please, stop embarrassing yourself and take a seat. Throwing a fit won’t solve anything, it’s just unwanted drama that should remain back in High School.

So I take it you’ve had zero problems finding raid groups to take you on your Necro?

I’m a returning player and used my Level 80 boost on my Necro. I still am not done unlocking all of Reaper but it’s sad to learn that Necro sucks in the meta.

I am a big fan of the Medium armor classes but I do not like where Engineer is right now. Ranger fills my greatsword fetish and leveling a thief so I can finally have a melee staff user.

Only reason I made a Necro was because I like the idea of a cloth armor class using a greatsword(Mesmer doesn’t count since they used it as a ranged weapon). However, the community kind of turned me off and I had shelved my Necro.

Now with the patch I just want to know what you the more experienced players thing of GS Necros in Power(Zerker), Condition(rabid) and Hybrid(Viper) set ups. With the Deathly Chill changes and the buff to the GS in general I’m leaning towards a Viper set up.

Enlighten me oh awesome ones.

EDIT: My concerns are for PvE and WvW only

On the flip side though I’ve read threads from folks that claim that Elementalists in general if played by some one that isn’t amazing puts out crap DPS and did so before the patch as well, so having a bunch of user friendly yet utility unfriendly DPS might still net you kills faster than mediocre players playing classes above their skill level.

I know these two classes well.

Sad, but on the bright side I get to play fashionwars this week end on a character I have not touched in a long time I guess.

I’m still irate that they were asked multiple times about Reaper DPS, and why no one looked into Blood utility.

I know these two classes well.

I know these two classes/builds well.

Power GS Reaper

Power Hammer DH (coincidentally I have an ascended GS).

Would groups be willing to bring in a novice with either option after the recent patch (as a PUG/alternate of course)?

I dyed mine Shadow Abyss and made the eyes Black Cheery, on my Necro it looks like I skinned his face off burned it and made a mask out of it, which fits my Reaper’s mentality perfectly.

I still think the substituted piece was Jobotron, who became the controlling personality of Lazurustron!

Screw it I’ll stay Power, Raiding is overrated, time consuming, requires too much organizing and frankly Fractals would be easier to organize with my small guild.

So since evidently folks are still down on Power GS I was wondering what Ascended Wep I should be aiming for since I can craft a set of exotic Vipers and get a free ascended from the new current event, granted if the Condi Wep is Viper GS can’t I just easily swap the stats on my current Zerker GS I guess.

Well hey who knows if Power is close in the new benchmarks then I might as well stay Power.

Any thoughts on Necromancers ANet, regarding the DPS deficit, utlity deficit, and possible changes to Vampiric Aura like making it 10 player instead of 5 for example?

Why the 7% Air Overload damage nerf and .5 second nerf to Meteor shower that not only lowers its damages but further destroys the flow of Fire rotation (continuing what the lava font nerf did)? Elementalists in PVE have virtually ZERO survivability, no damage mitigation to speak of beyond the 2 dodge rolls everyone has, very low HPs, garbage healing, No real group utility etc..

What we DO is damage. If you continue to nerf that what is the point of the class? We don’t really do anything else.

What is the rationale in continuing to nerf Elementalist damage capabilities while not giving us anything in return?

Don’t you guys provide any utility, you must otherwise why would you guys always get picked over other classes?

The DAMAGE man the damage….

Don’t you think it’s kind of fair to let other classes DPS a bit, I mean Necros have been the Blacksheep of the Raiding Family since forever?

I’ve seen multiple posts regarding Necro DPS deficit, lack of utility, and questions regarding Blood.

Will these be addressed because I’ve seen multiple responses for other classes so far but nothing regarding Necro?

I’m just glad Power GS Reaper got some love, I have no idea how it will translate to Raids but I’m sure I’ll be able to get into some PUGs if push comes to shove.

I’m pretty sure Thief is the best DPS now (followed by Engineer) since the big nerf of Meteor Shower (hits 2 times less than before) and Overload air (7% damage nerf), Ele might be on par with DH now (for small targets that is) which hopefully will deliver more love to the other professions.

Yeah, but those are just replacing the DPS slots, not the mirrored utility ones. 2 PS, 2 chronos, 2 druid (spirits still 5 cap).

And since revenant gained kitten all for DPS, as did necro, that hardly changed their position.

Thief was a viable DPS class already anyways and in most practical scenarios for the average player outperformed the average tempest.

Rev and Necro still garbage tier. Power reaper and rev changes are a joke. Guardians got even stronger….

If that’s true regarding Reapers then that’s longer I’ll not be buying anything from the Gem Store.
