TL;DR – Guardian’s Healing Power Coefficient/Scaling is HIGH AS HELL what are you talking about?
I dont know ive messed with Guardian’s Healing Power scaling, not in PvP mind you. But in most instances even using Healing Power Minor stat sets like Zealots the Guardian gains 1.5~2.0x additional healing on most skills.
Compared to other classes the Guardian’s Healing Power Coefficient is ridiculously high and not only that but you can bypass those Healing Power Soft Caps by using Out-going Healing effectiveness to increase your healing to allies Drastically.(Most Numbers are rounded from me being lazy to look up the exact value in game and do not take Out-Going Healing Effectiveness into account unless stated AND using Minor Healing Power 1200~1400)
“Signet of Courage” can go from 800 Base healing all the way up to 2.2k Healing per 10seconds which can be further increased drastically to nearly 3.4k per 10seconds using Out-going healing effectiveness and the “Perfect Inscriptions” Trait.
As a Guardian you are applying constant healing with anything you do to your allies when Spec’d right the only downside is they have to be huddled up pretty close to you.“Selfless Daring” like stated above can easily do over 1k healing in an area even with Minor Healing Power Gear.
“Monk’s Focus” can do nearly 3k Healing up from 1.9k
“Virtue of Resolve” can have its indicated healing increased from 300 to over 600 if its fully Trait’d and be shared between allies.
“Pure of Heart” can be increased to over 1300 healing when Aegis breaks up from 600 AND this applies on allies when they block using an Aegis you have applied from either Shouts, Mace Skills, or “Communal Defense” Trait.
“Writ of Persistence” is increased from 100 to 200 Healing per tick which may not seem a lot but like with regeneration this is per tick and adds up very quickly.
“Regeneration(10secs)” Can be increased from 1700 to 3000 and you have a lot of ways of applying regeneration to allies and ties into Writ of Persistence for giving high per tick healing
-Staff Weapon-
“Orb of Light” can do 540 when passing through allies and an additional 1640 on detonation up from 200 and 700.
“Empower” can do 2800 up from 1500
-Mace-
“Faithful Strike” can heal nearly 1300 in a small area and thats an Auto Attack.“Receive the Light” can be increased to Allied Healing per Pulse 1500 for FIVE PULSES over the course of 3seconds.
“Merciful Intervention” can be increased to nearly 3000 as a Teleport and Area Heal.
So if I use a variation of this with http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Dragonhunter_-_Symbolic Mace/Shield/Hammer Ascended Zerker Weps/Jewlry/ Back and exotic Cleric Armor would I be able to Face Tank 5 man content and be immortal Face Tanking open world through Healing and PermProtection?
I’m going to try this out
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Dragonhunter_-_Symbolic
I’ll stick with the Mace/Shield Hammer Weps
I’ll slot a bunch of meditations
If it’s good support in PVP it might help me from getting my … handed to me in HoT content, my guild is chill enough to let me run what ever I want in 5 mans so I assume that this will keep me alive, provide healing and perma protection. So hopefully all of those meditations and Mace Skill 2 will keep me from dieing, if not I’m just walking away from this game and playing something old fashioned and up my alley comfort zone wise; well no I could always go Soldiers or Clerics.
I tried the meta Mace Shield build and I’m melting doing the story in Bloodstone Fen. For some reason I’ve got a hell of a lot more sustainability on my Reaper. Is there anything different I should be going with my build? The gear I’m running is exotic Valk armor, Exotic Zerker Mace/Shield, Ascended Zerker Hammer, Ascended Zerker Jewlry/Back. Sigils Force/Accuracy X 2, runes Flame Legion I think.
Do I need to change my gear to Clerics while keeping my Weps/Jewlry/Back Zerker?
I tried that Guardian DPS build today while working on the first episode of season 3, even with the mace symbol down and perms protection I was melting like butter against magic crazed White Mantle. I’m wondering if I have to replace my gear with Clerics to make it work or if that magic resistance mastery doesn’t kick in until after I progress the story even though I’ve got it on my Reaper?
I can accept a compromise that would help fulfill my protector identity where I can offer up perma protection with a steady stream of heals. Now my big concern is why is my Gaurdian melting like butter in Bloodstone Fen while my Reaper for what ever reason seems immortal?
I just read up on Metabattle, looks like there’s a Guardian build that provides a steady stream of healing and permanent protection, so I assume if you’re on trash you just pop mace 2, swap to Hammer and auto until your first targets dead then swap to the next target and back to Mace/Shield then Mace 2 + 3, a few seconds later Shield skills to keep the protection up then swap back to Hammer.
That’s close enough to me, offer up some permanent damage reduction, steady stream of constant health, guess I just have to study up on my utilities to give more support.
When I read the name Gaurdian I think Logan Thackery with a shield holding off a ton of mofo’s from hurting his friends. From playing the Gaurdian I’ve found no one uses a shield, Hammers offer a blanket protection but what the hell does that weapon archetype have to do with protecting any one, you could go full on healer but then you’re more like a healer instead of a protector and why when Druids handle that better.
I really miss playing a tank like character that can offer some decent damage reduction, or offer some sustainability to keep health pools from bottoming out. I’ve got 3 80s, a Necro, Gaurdian, and Ranger.
Reapers great and all but I’m not sure how much extra healing I offer with the blood trait line, it would also be cool if there were a way to transfer conditions to minions through Death Magic for the whole party as well but I’m not sure that’s possible; still doesn’t have that good ole tank feel though.
I’m frankly not aware how a Druid really works other than it heals supposedly.
Gaurdian my old main I had hoped I could tank with but there are no one hand shield options that would work that way, I suppose there’s per a protection with the Hammer but what else can I consistently offer for defensive support?
I asked in guild once regarding Gaurdian and I was just told equip a Staff for Might and a Speed Buff ( that’s just depressing).
I’m probably just playing the wrong game.
At the moment Necro/Reaper since it reminds me of a WoW Death Knight with pieces of all three specs.
Erroneously when I first started playing this game I hoped that Guardian would be like a WoW Protection Paladin but it turns out it’s more like a Holy Paladin now with a bow.
Hopefully there’s a profession weapon combo out there that would help me feel more like an old fashioned tank that helps protect their party members while taking a beating, hopefully something that uses a shield and fits the archetype?
I know Greatsword is the meta for PVE how ever personally I feel the the shield is iconic for a Warrior and there are tons of great looking shield skins going to waste. I’m looking for a PVE build for Open World/Low level fractals (my guild lets me run anything) that uses a shield has decent dps (obviously won’t be top), good for breakbars, good for keeping with the mobs, figure ranged will be rifle.
I’m glad this idea got some traction, thanks for the replies!
We all know what a massive under taking adding a new race would involve, I’m not even going to get into it but Woodenpotatoes just released a 26 min video detailing the issues.
I would like to suggest an alternative, dragon corrupted player characters that have gone through the cleansing process pioneered in that Arah path.
Think about it, no additional racial armors, maybe an additional personal story arc to explain their path to redemption and acceptance prior to starting their order paths.
Six different new subraces for each race such as Branded/Destroyer/Icebound/Undead/Mordred/Friend of Steve.
What do you think, hell most of the resources are already in the game!
Heh remember when we told ANet this was going to be a problem all those years ago, and Colin tried selling us that snake oil temp content vision,
Well then this is the part where we say we told you so.
To be fair though the disconnect is no where near as bad as WoWs convuluted FUBAR time line.
1 to 60
Post Cataclysm Azeroth
60 to 80
Lets do the time warp and go back in time a decade to Outland and Northrend even though lvl 1 to 60 focused on the aftermath of what transpired in those expansions.
but then
80 to 100
back to the present to kill Deathwing and then go to Pandyland.
only to pull a Flash and go back in time again but to an alternate time line in Outland/Draenor where we kill a bunch of Orcs in a nostalgia trip only to
100 to 110
Deal with Bizarro Guldan in our timeline/universe bringing on the apocalypse.
I suppose when you look at that FUBAR situation a short S1 Recap video isn’t so bad.
Going through my Facebook I came across a video for throwback Thursday show casing Scarlet and the battle for Lions Arch. You really need to come up with some playable version of Season 1; my wife just finished the personal story, watched the recap video, and started season 2 where she’s completely lost and confused regarding the plot.
I run Reaper, Death Magic, Blood.
Blood minion, Rise, Power Signet, 25% Passive Speed Signet, and Flesh Golem
Weapons are GS and Staff
Armor is Valk, everything else zerker, Runes are Trooper (in a dungeon I run Spite and shouts instead of MM).
Sigils are Force/Accuracy, though I’ve thought of swapping a sigil for one that helps strip conditions off of party members since I trait for my minions to draw conditions from me anyway.

They have Toxic Green glow that you can clearly see in their preview. That color is default- can’t change it. The shades surrounding it you can. You can make some nice effects together ‘with the toxic green base’. If they added a way to edit the glow itself that’s news to me. I’ll come back and post again if you can… if not…. This is it.
The con tho- if this is a con for you- Character Race pending…. is that they are almost unusably and unnecessarily massive on human and sylvari MALES.
If your using max size human male… maybe…
However there is no male Sylvari torso big and or broad enough to aesthetically justify the size. I tried… I really tried and have at least 15 wasted transmutes as I waffled back and fourth trying to make that work on my sylvari warrior. Thank goodness the other green glow Mordrem shoulder/hands came out. They fit perfectly fine. I’m using them on my heavy armor treeman.
Note: I did finally get a use out of the toxi hand/shoulders. They currently grace the frame of my female sylvari daredevil… Still bigger then I like but… passable.
Toxi Shoulder’s/hands bottom attach. Female silvari/human sizing. Top pic are those other green glow shoulder/hands.
I was planning on using them with my male Norn Reaper, with Abyss and Red dyes, bummer about the green, perhaps I could offset it by using the Mordred Weapons.
Hoping it can work with the eventual Bloodstone back piece.
Perfect, thanks for the video; as long as this isn’t one of their weird short sales I’ll buy them tomorrow morning after I get paid.
I’m debating whether to buy these tomorrow when I get paid, do these items have any special effect to them at all such as glowing or what not, are they dyeable, if so how many channels?
Beats the hell out of me you’re too lazy to write a post?
Why would I play a Viper Reaper when I signed up for using the Great Sword as a PVE player?
I’ve been slowly working on getting the currency together to get the back piece since I’ve never had an ascended back. Here’s my dilemma, I run power builds, so since these are all HoT stats what combo will work best with my Reaper Power Build?
I agree I’ve been sitting at Mastery lvl 70 for months now because I have no desire or skill to play GW2s version of Mario Party.

Masteries have failed their stated purpose as a level-cap stand-in. Leveling in MMO’s has always been an open system. Generally, one can level doing a large number of different things that the MMO offers. GW2 took this a step further than most MMO’s. XP is awarded for doing pretty much anything except playing the TP or standing around chatting. In doing so, GW2 took a step forward in MMO design.
The Mastery System takes a giant step away from the way MMO’s treat leveling. Instead of being a leveling stand-in appealing to all, it is a system aimed at completionists. It does not appeal across the entire range of players in the same way a level cap increase would.
Apparently, Anet feels the need to tie anything and everything to specific game elements. This comes across as an attempt to make those game elements appealing. This is being done more and more as the game ages, even though ANet knows substantial numbers of players have no interest in some content.
It stands to reason that ANet’s current approach to game design is going to be defended by completionists. It also stands to reason that the more ANet ignores players with game-play preferences, the worse it will be for them in the long run. Completionists who love the game ought to consider that before they lambast others for having preferences.
To such players, the developer’s attitude seems to be, “If you don’t like and want to play everything we produce, we don’t care what you want or think.” Of course, it could be that they just don’t think things through or try to see beyond their own love for the game they’ve made. While the latter is understandable, it will often be viewed as the former by those such decisions impact negatively.
I want there to be a new mastery category added for chatting/forum dwelling with the last rank to be Grand Master Trolling.
I’ve heard rumors that ANet pays homage to him with a weekly salad bar for the office.
Naturally she was very upset about Tybald the Order or Whispers Char, I consoled her with the news that she made a new forever friend with Trahearne.
Well she stopped thinking sad positive thoughts about Tybald and start thinking angry derogatory thoughts about that f*&king G87 leaf, oh the times she’ll have, perhaps she’ll change her point of view after the last chapter in HoT?
Nevermind, I forgot I could cheese my way to completion by being a ‘big spender’ in WVW.
Why would you include a zone that requires you to be part of a semi organized group to complete the daily.
Try to get at least 15 people together to do 4 events in DS was an excercise in futility, frustration, and dispointment.
Not to be a downer, but if you need to wait until you get paid at the end of the month . . . you might want to re-prioritize buying the expansion then. . . .
You’re right, I’ll be prioritizing it some where else instead.
Well I’d love to sit here and continue this circular argument but I have to get ready to go to my job that I haven’t seen a raise at in roughly 5 years because of this awesome economic recovery we supposedly had from the last recession.
You do realize that a 2 week sale would cover everybody’s pay period, or hell how about some advance warning so that people can save for it in advance even?
Since you seem to be on a very tight budget maybe you should stash away a little money each pay check in a GW2 fund. That way when things like this come up you are prepared. I’ve lived on a low budget in the past and learned saving a little for “fun items” as I called them a very helpful technique.
When you live pay check to pay check something always comes up, something always breaks, something just plain goes wrong that would ideally better be fixed immediately rather than later.
" Well not all people that are paid bi-weekly get paid the same week. For example, mine is this Friday. It’s a bit unfair to criticize a company because their promotion doesn’t align with when a group receives their paycheck."
You do realize that a 2 week sale would cover everybody’s pay period, or hell how about some advance warning so that people can save for it in advance even?
" And you got no friend that can lend you 25$ for a week?"
This one amuses me, maybe it’s an age thing, or a generational thing but most adults don’t borrow money unless A)They have no food, B/) Something important like the Electric is going to be shut off, or perhaps your car is broken. C) Maybe you’re house burned down and you’re homeless. D) You’re very very sick and can’t buy much needed medicine to not die.
Borrowing money to buy a game is just not something I or any one I know would have the audacity to do.
Not all promotions have to cater to all players. There have been many gem store sales that have been up for less than a week. A little over a year ago the core game went on sale once or twice for $10 lasting for a single weekend.
And I have criticized each and every one of them, to have this sale end literally a day before I get paid Is one time too many, especially when I can just save long term at this point for the end August and just spend money on that other game instead.
Oh and now that HoT has been on sale, in my eyes it will never be worth that $50 price tag again, especially having it bump up to $50 on the day I get paid.
They are literally taunting me to spend my money else where.

It’s only $25. Is that much really going to set players back for that one week?
By this time of the pay period I have already paid my bills, gone grocery shopping for two weeks worth of food, all of the money is gone.
I am literally part of the working class that lives pay check to pay check, that’s why I play MMOs as opposed to blowing 500 every two years on a gaming console along with 50 to 60 every week on a console game that is played through in a week or less.
I just filed a ticket asking for an extension laying out my logic for the millionth time regarding the large size of their customer base that get paid bi weekly. Most MMO players are not Whales, most of us live on fixed incomes.
As I’ve said in many a thread I am on a fixed income so I have to plan all of my purchases very carefully every two weeks when I get paid.
How long will Heart of Thorns be 50%, if it’s going to be one of those unrealistic couple day or even one week sales then I guess it will be another time you don’t get money from me, how ever if you’re smart enough to make this sale last 2 weeks so that realistically all of your customer base has a chance to buy it then I’ll buy a copy for my wife on the 28th when I’ll actually have money again.
Aint it only living story season 2 thats on sale mate
Edit
Found it says on main page if you click it, July 20 -27 is the sale on hot
How out of touch with reality can ANet be, most employers pay BI Weekly, guess we’ll be playing Legion instead!

For the past month plus I keep seeing either same bright back lighting eye sore or new ones appear, please take care of this or I’m going to start taking screen shots and make a Facebook page dedicated to the anomalies of Tyria.
My wife recently just got done reinstalling GW2, among other things on a new HD, her Win 10 installation is wrapping up so she figured screw it she’ll play GW2. She keeps getting an error about 3d something etc with a link for more info, the website then tells her download DX9 which she did, now she’s still getting the same error.
It’s all good I guess ANet would rather make less money then, why not just put crap in the store and leave it there ffs!
I’ll direct you to your own post from a few days ago.

We need to appreciate that we play a game that has been developed by a company that not only produces half way decent content but also knows how to keep the lights on.
-SNIP-
And?
They would make more money if they didn’t have to rely on people to always have money when ever a special occurs; not every one keeps track of limited offerings, and then you have people like me that can only afford a fun purchase once every two weeks around pay day.
It’s all good I guess ANet would rather make less money then, why not just put crap in the store and leave it there ffs!
Hey fellow GW2 players and employees, my wife is busting my balls to some how get her this
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Peggellegg_the_%22Pirate%22
Basically it is an account bound Pirate Quaggan mini.
If it’s possible please tell me how, if it’s gone along the same place LWS1 resides oh well.
In any case please and thank you.
Well then this happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s-AFqCeCuk looks like we’ll see S3 in two weeks; I’m still hoping for some teaser events to drum us up a little bit though once the patch hits today. But the announcement and the video was enough, that’s all I needed.
Well it looks like Woodenpotatoes released a new video discussing the content draught and stated that he thought S3 wasn’t going to drop until the end of the Summer, he expressed a lot of concern and I though disappointment as well.
Seriously ANet your biggest cheerleader, your YouTube White Knight thinks you’ve dropped the ball , and given up on the season so to speak like you’re the New York Jets in the NFL competing for last place.
When videos like that drop from WP then you’re really doing something wrong, period.
I’m going to start dusting off other MMOs on my PC, hopefully for ANets sake none of us gets hooked some where else.
Okay WP never said in that entire video he’s given up on the season, he never implied it. That video said, if anyone actually bothered watching it, that he’s having fun in game again, doing things he’d never have done and appreciating the new zones in ways he didn’t realize existed.
If people bothered to actually listen to what he’s saying he’s saying yes, the content drought affects some people but there are still goals and there are still people taking advantage of those goals. I’m one of them.
He also said no matter where he went in HOT no matter the hour he always saw plenty of people.
This whole I don’t have the content I like so HoT is dead commentary is silly.
This whole Anet isn’t doing anything about it is silly too.
Content takes months to create and another month to release. We all know that time was spent by Anet to fix the new zones and most of those changes were met with a positive reaction from the fan base. The April quarterly patch was a big big update on more than one front (WvW and HoT).
Sure there’s a less new content for people who like open world stuff to play. But this has happened in every single MMO I’ve ever played. Every single one.
You can go to the forums of any MMO and see complaints about not enough content or not enough fo specific content.
For years, we saw people who wanted challenging content yelling and screaming about not having it. Now we don’t hear those people, we hear different people.
No game company is big enough to do it all, so it rotates. And yes, people will get frustrated that companies can’t make content faster than they do.
But it doesn’t mean they’re not working on content, it doesn’t mean they’ve given up on content and it doesn’t mean content isn’t coming.
It just means people have unrealistic expectations of how long content takes to produce.
April, less then three months ago, Anet released a HUGE patch for open world PvE. Since then they’ve put bandit bounties in the game, they’ve put the coalescent events in the game, they put new bandit champs in the game, they put leyline events in the game.
It’s not much, but it’s also not nothing.
People need to get a grip. Particularly with a quarterly patch coming out this month.
I never said the game was dead how ever the stagnation in development is horrible for morale and it is discussed out side the game on other game sites, WP clearly stated that he was concerned, he also stated he was disappointed in the amount of time S3 is taking, he’s basically stated he’s going on hiatus except for the random GW2 video until there’s actually something to cover.
Yes there are people still playing, even I’m still playing, for now; but it’s starting to get stale.
You and I have discussed this in guild and private chat I do not think that the price tag matches what we got, I’m used to WoW sized expansions, if this were reasonably priced I’d say ANet should have charged $30. I expect 2 more zones to flesh out what we got, furthermore I also expect the personal story that we were provided to double what we were given with HoT, I also expect at least half a dozen fractals to throw into the rotation, I expect the rest of the Legendaries that were included in the product description.
You can disagree, I can disagree, we both respect each other and share a virtual roof; I respect what you’ve said but you can’t discount that he also said those other things as well other wise both of us would be guilty of cherry picking.

So I guess there’s no Druid tanking then.
Is there an easy novice way to heal?
What’s the tanking meta?
Hmm would any of these builds lend them selves to tanking?
So I hear that Druids can tank, I’ve been looking every where on Metabattle and Dulfy and I don’t see any tanking builds/guides?
Thanks for your input.
I know 9 out of every 10 threads is some one complaining about some aspect of GW2 including at least 9 out of 10 of my own.
We need to appreciate that we play a game that has been developed by a company that not only produces half way decent content but also knows how to keep the lights on.
The same can’t be said for Turbine that laid off all of it’s MMO staff to pivot toward Mobile Games exclusively, that’s right LotRO, DDO, AC 1 & 2 are all going on maintenance mode.
The same can’t be said for Daybreak that mismanaged their properties so bad they cancelled the sequel to EQ2.
The same can’t be said for Funcom either since that company has been embroiled in legal fraud cases in their country of origin, and blew all of their future investments on some MOBA that blew up in their face before it even made it to beta.
Lets just be thankful that MMO companies like ANet, Trion, and CCP still manage to truck along with out the benefit of a big nanny like Activision/EA to hold their hand.
Proto – agreed on HoT needing more maps for it’s price. Both in open PvE (not guild halls), and spvp. Insuficient amount of content is the cause of both players not grabbing as many copies as was expected, and of this over the top grind that many point out.
Disagreed on not wanting complex maps – this is Guild Wars game. More then other games of its gendre this one is about players overcoming challenges with their grit and skill, and not just getting everything handed to them. The new challenge of exploring and mastering this beuatiful, fullly 3D maps is a joy i don’t get to experience much elsewhere. I do not wish to see GW2 return to generic flat map model of every other game out there. Especially now that we have gliders begging to be used and abused;)
I like the complex map, but most people don’t. Just read the forums. We are in a very casual era of gaming where people like to play 30mins and go off again.
The solution is somewhere in the middle: you have to offer complex maps with meta large meta events but also easy accessible maps.
@vayne, I think they pretty much failed with Draenor (first expansion I never played), but it used to be much better with constant stream of content. And yeah: 12€/month is quite a lot, I agree but then again, I bought gems in the 4 digits amount and so did others. I don’t think their revenue is worse than in subscription based games.
Guild Wars 2 makes about 8 million a month. WoW, even when they were down to 4 million subscribers made 60 million a month. Not sure why you think they can be compared.
Also the industry 8 years ago can’t be compared to the industry now. It’s a very different animal with every different costs. Voice acting is very highly priced. What happened in the past has no bearing on anything.
Right now, WoW makes many times, many many times what Guild Wars 2 does every quarter and that’s pretty much uncontestable.
I think the problem is that the industry standard that we’ve come to expect regarding boxed expansions left Heart of Thorns lacking in real estate. For example Rift’s Storm Legion released with two continents with complete story paths for both, with open world events for each map, half a dozen 5 mans, the 1st tier of raid completely there from day one, new raid rifts, a form of repeatable open world end game called Torvan Hunts I think, 4 new souls for their four classes; now granted at the time Rift was a subscriber game but it was pulling in no where near what WoW was at that time.
I’m sure it would have been more reasonable for Heart of Thorns to launch with at least 6 maps, the new Raid intact, a few new Fractals, and the legendaries done.
As far as I’m concerned ANet only gave us half the expansion and I expect the other half to ship before its one year aniversary or they better give out refunds for half of what we paid.
PS even Woodenpotatoes said we got less than we paid for.
