Yes. Life force makes all the difference. A power necro is nothing without his life force.
That’s the trait I usually roll with when I use minions. It only gives you 2 extra minions through, but I like it since it basically turns all your minions into bombs that explode when they are killed. :p
I’d be interested in joining. Won’t be able to represent too much because of responsibilities in my current guild, but would like to play with fellow necros when I can.
Main character name: Qasandra
Account name: OlliX.1705
Favorite game mode: PvE, but play some WvW and occasional PvP too.
Server : Vabbi (EU)
Number of Necromancers: 2
This is a horrible idea for reasons mentioned earlier.
If I recall correctly Aegis will block everything, including corrupt boon and DS #2, WH #4 and wells which are supposed to be unblockable. Only exception would be a traited thief steal.
No, Aegis converts into Burning.
Meh, it’s not as bad as it sounds. Only elitist scumbags will kick you, most people don’t mind.
Scholar runes, or something similar. Ranger runes are cheaper than Scholar’s, og and synergise with the minions.
Edit: Don’t post from your phone. :P

I have not tried charr necro, but I made a norn necromancer this week, and have been toying around with Become The Wolf and the Terror trait, since wolf form had a pretty short cooldown fear. It’s fun, but not too effective since I lose out on other powerful skills and utility, I can imagine the charzooka idea being along the same lines.. fun but not ideal.
I’d personally just go with berserker gear, so you can switch to dps build quick and easy if needed.
Seraph skills from Belinda’s spirit… This sounds more like like how I imagine the Revenant to work. I don’t think we’ll have a connection with her spirit at all. Necromancers have had greatswords before, like Trahearne.
You don’t need any gear, just select the amulet you need in the PvP build window. Only gear you need are your weapons and the stats for those are irrelevant.
I think siphoning, regen and other heals should work through deathshroud, but at reduced effectiveness. Either that, or that it would “heal” your life force pool. It’s such a shame how the Blood Magic traits really don’t synergise with our class mechanic at all.
Siphoning and regen should definitely not be reduced. Theyre bad enough as of right now.
When it comes to other source of healing, especially other people…well, that’s debatable. Easiest way to find out would be to try it and just pedal back if it’s too strong. BUt that would require anet to balance the game more frequently than three times a year.
In mostly agree with this, but I think unreduced siphoning in a minion build potentially could be a bit much. Siphoning generally isn’t all that good, but if you’re using all minions and have the vampiric master trait you’re getting quite a bit of heal.
Then again, I really would not mind… I’d play the hell out of that until it got nerfed. :p
You can teleport with Wurm.

What better way to celebrate the new expansion than to use a weapon made of mordrem parts. ^^
At least that is the plan until I see what new skins comes with the expansion.
I think they increased the heal from Dagger #2 not too long ago(?).
A skill that absorbs attacks and turns them into life force.
It’s only 2 points in and the precision is useful. I really don’t mind.
Sylvari, just to troll Rytlock.
To be honest, before the announcements I was mainly hoping for each profession to get extra weapons and other reworks. I will admit that after getting the impression that each class would get more than one specialisation, I find this disappointing. Still, this is more comparable to what I was expecting before knowing anything about what the expansion would contain.
Bet it will still be fun, and a nice change of playstyle for some characters. I for one can’t wait to play the greatsword necro.
I tried a build not long ago that focused on siphoning wells, but also had Unholy Sanctuary. Had a hard time actually killing other players with it, but I guess that’s not the point… I could heal like crazy. ^^
I’m gonna wait until I see the new legendaries. I’ve got some nice skins in my wardrobe already that I might use too, we’ll see…
So I found the vid, but where do you all see a necro with a greatsword? 0-0
Play living story, and you’ll see a necro (Marjory) using one. Also, it was announced during the stream.
There was an engineer with a hammer in the trailer.
So far we only know of 1. I personally hope we get at least 2.
I think there should be more than 1 specialisation for each class. Only having 1 kinda ruins the point. It would also make it more worthwhile to level alts of each profession.
WoodenPotatoes also seems to think there is only a single spec per professions, so assuming he knows more than mere mortals, it made me a bit sad.
HOWEVER, Colin was using words like “so, if you choose to turn your character into a druid, then…”. That would mean there is an alternative to that.
Guess there is always the option to not specialise. :p
Yay, a new weapon to play with. Will there only be 1 secondary profession for each class, or will we have several options to choose from? Can’t remember if that was mentioned in the stream.
As mentioned by someone earlier, being able to swap utilities while they are still on cooldown would be really useful.
- New weapons, skills, traits for each profession
- New dungeons
- Rework condition damage so it’s viable for group content in PvE
- Player housing
- Guild halls
- Fix Lion’s Arch
- New zones
- Dueling in PvE
Well, everyone have different playstyles they enjoy. When I leveled my necro I would use minions and had a lot of fun, so you could try that.
This is what I would do.
Click “Escape” and click new character. Find the engineer and create that. Then delete your necro.
Trust me, dont get invested in this class. You basically get cast out from all dungeons/fractals. And the class is very buggy and most of the core mechanics of the class dont work (siphoning)
If you actually read the opening post he said he was not gonna use this character for dungeons and fractals.
I think the change I appreciate the most is the change to Locust Swarm. I use warhorn quite a lot, and while the change really is quite insignificant I think of it more as a quality of life improvement than an actual buff.
In regards to the dev comment that says this will increase necro mobility… it won’t. It’s a nice change, but it won’t really change anything mobility-wise.
I only really used Signet of the Locust when casually running around in PvE for the passive effect. I like this new buff to Signet of the Locust, but there are still other skills I’d much rather bring with me into combat.
Now, I think making Signet of the Locust a stunbreak in addition to this really would make it a lot more useful. It would be our shortest cooldown stunbreak, and the life siphoning could definitely turn out to be a life saver.
Double life force gain from Signet of Undeath is nice I guess, not sure if it will make it to my bar anyways. I mainly used this signet for ressing people where I thought that might be useful. A shorter cast time and cooldown would be more useful I think, but an improvement is an improvement I guess.
Can’t say much for Corrosive Poison Cloud. I never used it, and doubt I will be using it even after the buff.
Just started patching now for me.
And now stuck at 99%. Great. :P

Internet works fine here, but getting the connection error when starting up GW2.
A big YES to healing in death shroud. More stability would be welcomed too.
Not too sure about the other ideas. Having access to your heal in death shroud could potentially make deathshroud quite OP, while without it you’d have to rely on allies to heal you or blood magic traits which seems fine to me. Other utilities could be useful though I guess.
I have no idea. Maybe Anet hates us?
necro’s are the worst and the most unwanted class in PvE
And minions die to AoE since they can’t dodge
so its unviable+unviable+unwanted = total crap
From my experience they survive a lot better than one might think, even when stacked with a boss. When traited right the cooldown is pretty low and they explode on death, and deal damage that way too.
I don’t run MM in dungeons very often, but last time I did it was a CoE run and the minions held up surprisingly well when stacked with Subject Alpha.
Attacks that cleave, some kind of mobility, and a skill that blocks attacks and grants life force when hit, maybe add a blast finisher in there too.
OlliX.1705:To be honest, I never really got the impression that my necro was dealing low damage. I’ve not done the maths though, but from personal experience I’m quite satisfied with the amount of damage I deal.
I’m sorry, but feelings mean literally nothing in the face of evidence. Mathematically, necros are the worst class in pve. They have average dps, and can only improve group dps through vulnerability.
Never claimed that necro dps was any higher than average, what I meant was that it’s high enough that I’m not really fussed about it.
That being said, I’m not against increasing necro dps at all. I welcome any buff to the necro. If they are not gonna give us any good ways to support our party, I absolutely think we should get a boost to personal dps.
Build seems alright I think, but the stats on your gear is quite incohesive. I’d also consider throwing in Corrupt Boon or Epidemic in the utilities. Not sure what content you’ll be playing, but Epidemic is really useful if you’re fighting more than one enemy at a time.
I mainly play power builds, so can’t really be more of a help, sorry. :p

As for minions, yes I agree they could need some tweaks to their AI. I’ve experienced the same thing you have in this aspect.
Another bug I have noticed is Life Blast some times not hitting enemies when it should. I’ve noticed it on some world bosses and the graveling mounds in Ascalonian Catacombs where it happens to me the most.
Necromancer should have a separate life bar in the party UI when in Death Shroud.
As to actual revamps of the class, I think what necro needs the most in order to be desired in PvE groups is good party utility. The few ways we can boost a party are done better by other professions, we need something unique that is actually gonna be useful.
Another thing necro lacks is any form of mobility or damage mitigation, this is more of a PvP problem than it is a PvE problem I guess – but it could be useful to have in PvE too I think.
These changes could be introduced by giving us new traits, utilities and possible new weapons (please?), or by tweaking old ones.
Some ideas for this could be to make Spectral Wall reflect projectiles, Blood is Power grants party might, maybe add a trait that grants the party ferocity or condition damage passively in combat.
There are plenty of other things that would help, but these are just a couple of ideas off the top of my head.
Another change I wish we could have is to allow heal effects in Death Shroud, this would create a much better synergy between a lot of traits, especially considering most of the Blood Magic trait line basically becomes useless in Death Shroud.
I’ve been using a similar build in the Silverwastes recently, not gone as far as to change my sigils and runes – but traits seem to be about the same. The permaswiftness is nice.
I’ve been having this issue for the last few days, especially in the evening… and I am currently experiencing it too, which is why I’m on the forum and not playing. :p
Norway, happens in the evening mostly, home world is Vabbi.
I some times do this for fun. I just use the full berserker gear I’d use for a normal PvE dungeon build, dagger +wh/focus, traits 40640 and full utility bar of minions.
Minions can easily ruin positioning on bosses and mobs when stacking, so be careful with that, but I find that if you have a basic understanding of how they work and you know the dungeon well you can take precautions and swap them out for something else where this would be desirable.
Also worth mentioning – I’ve only run this build with friends, and they kinda let me play whatever I want as long as it’s a dps build. I don’t know how the average zerker lfg group would react to it.
Tried lowering the Character Model Limit? Changing it from Highest to Low really improved framerates for me.
