This is one discussion we’ve had multiple times internally as of late. It’s tricky because 5v5 is much more plagued with autobalance issues than 8v8. We agree that 8v8 doesn’t teach players the type of PvP we wish to pass along to our youngsters but there are still surely players who enjoy it. I personally would like to see 8v8 removed but we might need to visit how hitting play now prioritizes matches that haven’t started.
If someone wants 8v8, there are custom arenas.
Remove default 8v8 rooms once and for all.
Already reported time ago. It happens also in P1 at the controller part if you look left (aiming at same point). The answer was something like “it’s not our fault” or whatever.
It seems poor coding too me since it’s the only place in the whole game where this happens.
Following items are missing slots in PVP locket:
PvP Toxic GauntletPvP Toxic ArmguardPvP Toxix GlovePvP Toxic PauldronPvP Toxic ShoulderpadPvP Toxic Mantle
Also
- PvP Sun Catcher
- PvP Lightning Catcher
- PvP Wind Catcher
obtained through tradable skin are missing their slots. Months have passed but still no fix to this.

It is TOTALLY USELESS to change matchmaking system and reset leaderboards if you don’t fix “leavers problem” once and for all.
Put a system to abort the match if not all 5 players are inside the room when it starts
AND
make a 1 day PVP ban for the FIRST match you leave. FIRST match.
Otherwise there is no hope for PVP.
It does, but it also means that the team you’re facing is in the same situation. This will also affect top-end matches as well. Assuming the top 10 solo queue players are in queue at the same time (which is likely after the reset) – instead of having Rank 1-5 on a team and 6-10 on the other side, it will balance the top 10 into more even rosters. This will make matches much more even, assuming there is a discernible difference in skill between top 5 and top 10.
Why don’t you implement a minimum requirement to enter rated arenas? Like minimum rank 10 or 15.
It’s a pain to have teammate which don’t even know what the hell they are doing nor how to play their class.
BEFORE resetting leaderboards, please, please, please implement an anti-4v5 system
OR
instant 1-day ban from rated arenas at first game you do not participate at.
At FIRST game, not at fourth or fifth, FIRST.
The idea we’re operating under:
If you want AOE CC, bring a hammer. If you want burst or DPS, bring an axe or a greatsword.
Considering that Hammer has the highest damage skills (and autoattack too), this will NOT happen.
Increase other weapons damage and then you will see less Hammers around.
sry but asking here to remove hotjoin and at same time suggest to add a gamemode exact same like 5v5 hotjoin works is – silly – sry dont find other worths for this
just press the button for 5v5 hotjoin and you have what you want
Ignore who asked for queued hotjoin, they are confused or drunk.
I (and many others) am talking about queued unrated games where you can NOT leave NOR jump in during the match.
Basically: same as arenas but unrated.
A queue for non-rated matches it so obvious that I can’t understand why GW2 didn’t have since launch.
Hot-join was/is the worse match concept I have ever seen.
but it will ultimately be up to the community to take the competitive scene one step further.
Hugh “Nightmare” Norfolk
PvP Designer
True, BUT the community will be competitive if and only if the game will have the possibility to be competitive.
And with the current skill floor, it isn’t (on long term).
In my honest opinion HJs are bad because:
- People that wan’t to play “seriously” without risking their rank in LB (leaderboard) don’t have any alternative. Want to play seriously? Go to solo queue and risk your rank. Don’t want to risk? Go to play random games in HJs.
- New PvPers go to HJ, play a few matches (most probably the 8v8 zergfests) and think "oh, so PvP is… “this”? seems a giant random confusing brawl, not really “technical” as it should be". And bye bye to newcomers.
- New PvPers learn to play in HJ which basically means they do not learn anything because compositions are completely random, there is no strategy involved, teams keep changing since people can leave and join anytime… They can train 1v1 if they are lucky enough to meet alone players around the map but that’s all. No teamfight or strategy learning.
- Since HJs are the “default” match, people don’t think “let’s do a match” since a game where players keep changing and teams are always unbalanced is NOT a match, is a FFA random brawl.
Solution:
- Remove HJs.
- Add Co-op (players vs bots). It will be awesome as a training ground for new players/builds (and people aiming for daily achievements will go there rather than ruining matches).
- Add a tutorial (not 3 no-sense quests) the first time you enter the Mist. The tutorial should be a simulated match with bots (maybe the player vs 1 bot). It should explain how the game works (capture points, kills, secondary objectives).
- Add a new type of matches, called “normal” (or whatever). Basically they will work the same as Arena but without leaderboards involved. Matchmaking will be PVP rank based (not Glicko based).
It means that whenever you want to play a not-ranked (I use term “ranked” for leaderboard matches) match, you can solo queue or create a roster and the server will match you against a team of solo queuers or team with the same average PvP rank (with lowest deviation possible).
Obviously if you queue in 2 and get in a team with a 3-man queue, then server will search for a similar composition (2+3) with same average rank.
Basically this system is the common system in online competitive games. It will also prevent all those empty HJs room so the arena list will show only custom arenas.
As a fix, as many suggested, please go for “remove Cripple from Sword third AA” rather than putting ICD back to Leg Specialist.
I’m not here to defend it. I just want to point out that it is NOT permanent.
Very often yes, permanent not.
And you forgot to mention Shrug It Off! which is another healing shouts every 30 seconds!
(but you need 2 condis to proc it though)
Can anyone confirm if Shrug It Off actually procs the heal if you have healing shouts trait? I’m not sure either way!
Yes, it procs!
Hot-fix in 3… 2… 1…. XD
Enjoy nearly-permanent Immobilize till you can!Hot-fix on that? have you seen what tehy did to the mesmer fall trait? Hello 80k hits.
Nope, I don’t check other classes forums. What they did?
EDIT: Omfg, just saw a video! O_O
wait no, even if its true , gs damage still got shoved down because of HF BP being 30 point trait
and to stay in this meta need cleansing ire, GS LB was the best because it has the best utility and damage when every build lacks condi cleansing.
but im playing it anyway just xD
I’m not using nor LB nor GS and I don’t have any issue with conditions since my Skull Crack never misses :P
There is no cooldown in trait tooltip… May it be intended?
Hot-fix in 3… 2… 1…. XD
Enjoy nearly-permanent Immobilize till you can!
Big huge LOL
And you forgot to mention Shrug It Off! which is another healing shouts every 30 seconds!

I’d imagine buffed shout heals + healing signet would be one tanky mother kitten (unless you get poisoned ofc).
Rune of the Soldier and bye bye Poison! Let’s mass heal!!
And Nike updated his guide too:

I really wonder why people didn’t learn it yet.
When the patch that improved Warrior capabilities was released, no one started crying about Wariors. A whole month or even more passed before the QQ start so tell me how can you even say “nothing has changed” before the patch release?
Probably we’ll notice changes in meta and gameplay in a month or two from now.
If you want to cry, cry in November. Thanks.
Wow, congratulations for your exploring!

Your DPS oriented build is fine for everything concerning PvE.
Epic is right, DPS is the way to go.
If you plan to go full DPS:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
Tired of linking it everywhere but I’m even more tired seeing Warrior’s with crap builds everywhere XD (not referring to anyone here, just a general statement)
If you are confident with you skills and/or you’re playing in a decent group then go for this:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
(PvE and FOTM only, not for WvW or SPVP)
About Rune of Dolyak:
Do NOT take them, for any reason. The sixth rune heals for 30 HP per second which is absolutely useless.
It was how much time ago ?
1 or 2 month now if I remember right, maybe 3. Why?
I tell you this because I remember it being said by a dev (Jon Sharp if I’m right) during a SotG or another live stream event.
Anyway I guess soon or later a dev will answer to confirm it (or deny it if they are planning a tweak to the game engine, which is my hope).
Kline, a lot of good ideas but they can’t be realized without solving the core question: being fun AND fast-access.
- Being fun means that after winning a match you MUST feel satisfied. If you are not, then the whole SPVP is useless since you are playing for satisfaction of overwhelming your opponent. This is the whole point of Player versus Player.
- With fast-access I mean what League of Legends did and what GW2 is lacking: a big red “PLAY” button that you press, choose the game mode and BAM! matchmaking and go.
No need to search for rooms in an unlimited list of 5v5, 8v8, private rooms, custom arenas and whatever there is. LoL has custom rooms too (they are free by the way) but if you want to simply play you just have to click a big red button.
Until this game won’t solve this two problems, SPVP will just be a feature like Keg Brawl, Crab Toss, Aspect Arena or whatever.
If you get used to dodge, you don’t need to be tanky.
Imho there are two ways you can play: “just for fun” or efficiently. Let me explain.
With “just for fun” I mean that you simply play as you want. So you can be full-tank, condition or 5 signet Warrior.
With “efficiently” I mean playing the best as possible. In this case you should play Warrior considering how is the current (and since beta) “PVE meta” and maximize your class potential. This mean pure damage oriented build. And this kind of build should be optimized with a background of math and testing.
If you want to go for the second then give a look here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
Some information for the uninformed:
http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/ArenaNet-Reviews-E255820.htm
Thank you for the link, very informative.
There is no pause function because GW2 game engine can’t do it.
Simply explained: GW2 can not be paused.
In order to do that they should rework a big part of code which they probably won’t do anytime soon or anytime at all.
I like a lot this game but ArenaNet target is NOT competitive PVP. I guess everyone understood this in the last 13 months.
Very sad to me, since I prefer PVP over PVE in online games.
Are you speaking about pve, right?
Tanky or defensive options is a MUST in all pvp games or modes. I am not talking about killing noobs.
You said “Longer fight, higher chance for mistakes”, no, is not how this work, defensive options let you more control over the fight, healing let you undo what enemy do. CC or break CC let you undo enemy actions. That is all defensive. Tanky let you make more mistakes, and in glasscanon dps one mistake and you are almost death. You cant burst down a tanky (a good player tanky) and you cant hold a long fight with a glasscanon build. You need to kill fast, and you cant kill fast a good tanky dps.
This is a PVE topic so I’m talking about PVE. It was OBVIOUS.
In this game there is 3 types of roles, Damage, Support or Defence, are you telling me Warrior is only viable with Damage? I mean there is class better in Support than Damage (Guardian) and Warrior can be best with Damage, but they must have some build more Defencive or more Supportive
In this game SHOULD BE 3 type of roles. But there aren’t.
The best build for ANY class is DPS oriented. Sad but true.
Some classes sacrifices some DPS for an overall big utility (like Guardians) but most of them (Warriors, Thieves, Mesmers, Elementalists, Engineers…) are just pure damage dealers.
I was dreaming about roles too, then I started searching on other forums (aka GW2guru) and tried things out objectively: DPS is the only way.
Again: sad, but tue.
EDIT: If you are wondering why a defensive/healing build is useless the answer is simple:
Lower DPS, longer fight.
Longer fight, higher chance for mistakes (missed skill, interrupted heal, not-dodged attack).
Higher chance for mistakes, higher chance for wipes.
Dolan is right, DPS is the way to for go all classes.
I run the full DPS in any party, PUG or organized. Faster you kill, safer the fight.
About conditions: you have Guardians for that. If not, then take SoS as third utility or Mending as healing skill (I like Mending a lot in TA for example).
It is 150 Power to whole party, not only yourself. I prefer 150 (a bit more of 4 Might stacks) to everyone rather than a bit more but only to me.
And even the worse PUG will provide some Might stacks somehow XD
Agree. People should stop posting about “DPS builds” when they are not. I keep sawing Warrior with builds that make me cry but I stopped explaining, people are to stubborn to change their mind.
(I was stubborn about shout-healing too but at the end I saw the light and woke up XD)
Is 30/0/0/10/30 really better than 30/25/0/0/15 for PuGs? I mean I know Empower Allies is great and all but let’s face it we’re talking about PuGs here, who would make as much use of +150 Power as they would a Fiery Greatsword. Would it not be better to go “screw you guys” and self stack might like a beast?
Not really. You can stack 11 Mights constantly + 4 stacks for 66% of time (SoR) by yourself. It is very probable that your party will give you other 10 stacks somehow (if not, then something is wrong XD).
That’s how all the classes work, dude.
Exactly.
It’s not that “Warrior can only be zerk”, it is that “the best Warrior is damage oriented” and this works for EVERY class, not only Warrior.
If you need a guide:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
GS / Axe + Mace is the way to go for DPS build.
If you need a guide:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
@waxpax That is Bazil, his best build is Guardian’s. For Warrior you should check his guildmate Nikephoros build:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
And at the OP, “pro wars” (lol) play the one I linked above, full damage oriented.
Some of those “doing the math” folks have done the math and Scholar runes are the best DPS wise as long as your health is above 90% for at least 25% (I think that’s the percentage, but could be wrong) of the fight. If not, then Ruby Orbs are better.
Exactly.
Anyway I’m sorry to link again over and over, but most optimized build is still the same…
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
If you are looking for serious debates and maths, you should go for GW2Guru, I discovered it being way more serious than official forums…Wow things musta changed, I remember Guru being all ‘Sonic boom or nothing!’
Don’t know about the past, but when I was looking for Warrior’s, Engineer’s and Guardian’s builds I found pretty interesting debates.
Every class at its highest optimized build is DPS-oriented. Thinking that Warrior, which is one of highest/easiest DPS class, would be different… I’m sorry XD
