Hello, just a short guide I put together on how to fight Mai Trin on elementalist:
The traits are 66002 or 662 using dagger focus. The build and utilities depends on the method you choose to fight her, stealth you don’t need any/much defence at all and fighting normally some extra dodges/block can come in handy. Also ice bow has reduced effectiveness because you are going to be giving her defiance by pulling into fields and then burning her very quickly anyway.
Your main skills for blocking her teleport shot are swirling winds and ring of earth, but magnetic wave and obsidian flesh also work. Furthermore burning speed and fgs 3/4 can be used with more intricate timing. Blocks can also be useful for resurrecting others.

I don’t think Anet ever bothered to fix that sploit where you just sit inside him and melee. The only thing that hurts you is the posion ticks (the projectiles don’t do anything) and his melee punch thing which you can block or invul depending on your class.
You can just throw down an earth elemental using elite elementalist skill, or ranger bear, or AH guard, pretty much anything can tank it and others can stand behind and melee it safely. But yeah you can just stand directly inside his hitbox, but it can be a annoying to find sometimes. The attack when he leans forward can be reflected for high damage
My group is more like 50 minutes, we are not a fan of multiple elementalists as say a mesmer is better than a second elementalist. 2 warriors is the perfect balance because it is not risky like the elementalist class. But when we do have elementalists in our group we get them to camp lightning whip auto attack and spam all their blasts at once if use them at all because using burning retreat just gets you killed on harder bosses, and hey, elementalist is a difficult profession too.

well ranged isnt part of the speed run meta, melee keeps mobs balled together, and you can also share out boons easier to each other within the party, i mean, staff elementalist is a ranged weapon and is very easy to play but it should still be played in melee. a lot of engi’s high damage you need to be in melee in such as jump shot and acid bomb
go play warrior? if you want to be worth your weight on engineer you certainly can’t slack
Seems pointless when you could just use a zerk guard and finish it quicker seeing as all the bosses in CM melt quickly anyway
If we did intend it we would’ve waited at the start till the talking was over and zorby wouldn’t of used bear form for the heat room
Just a pretty fast casual run the other day, didn’t use a timer but it is around 4:48, the reason I didn’t use a timer was because it is un-restricted since Zorby used the norn racial skill, but to be fair we had no intention of a record. I hope this can help some people out with splitting tactics, dodging portals and blink spots.

Fractals are more fun in my opinion, the bosses generally are more challenging which teaches players skills such as max meleeing and dodging more than in dungeons. It is also fairly rewarding through rares/exotics/materials and the occasional raiders chest. Dungeons are certainly more profitable but a good fractal group takes about 20-30 minutes to complete a full 50.

I’m not saying it would be a bad change as it would add some value to water magic, but I do think that staff elementalist is already pretty overpowered without it
So recently I have seen a lot of HoTW records and it is disappointing to see elementalists not utilizing fresh air or high damage burst skills, if used effectively the elementalist has very good under water damage
So we start with the traits 66200, this will allow for fresh air and persisting flames, two very important traits in this build for fury stacking and consistent damage. You will also want internal fire, burning precision, bolt to the heart, air training and stone splinters.
In Fire attunement your skill 2 is a fire field and does good damage over time. In Water attunement your skill 2 is a projectile which does decent damage and heavy damage on detonation, much like Napalm on engineer. Skill 3 in water is also heavy damage, detonate in the same way, it is also a blast finisher. Skill 5 in water is your heaviest damage skill in water providing the boss is near a wall or an object, you can sink bosses to the ground and face towards the floor if the boss is not near an object, use it in the same way which you would use FGS 4 in the past. In air attunement your auto attack is very good damage, you also want to be using auto attack on this attunement, also skill 2 is moderate damage as well as providing vulnerability. Skill 4 can be used as a rupt, skill 3 as a gap closer and skill 5 is a static field, but hard to position effectively. In earth attunement skill 2 is good damage, skill 4 is a decent sink (2 seconds) and skill 5 is a blind, useful on the end boss in HoTW p3 to blind the jellyfish detonate.
Your elite is useful at times when you can’t get very close to a foe for example the hotw p2 boss without getting rekt by his auto attacks, it also has good aoe and a pull, you should use the utils in the video. The other skills are less useful and not worth using the vast majority of the time.
Essentially you want to utilize the auto attack damage in air attunement, with the burst skills in other attunements, thanks for reading and here is a visual guide:

More often than not we have an engi in the party to keep up the vuln and warrior can happily camp gs.
So everytime someone needs to run Phalanx and to be able to spam gsword 2 at their leisure, they need to look for an engi to stack vuln? Great advice!

PS war is really really essential in fractals. Sometimes the ele just has to go staff and the loss of might buff for the whole party is detrimental to the group dps.
Never, at any point ever, is it essential to take a phalanx warrior. It makes things easier and is sometimes better, yes, but essential? Not in the least bit
Not in the sense that you have to have a PS war every single time to complete a run. But in a sense that if your group cannot have enough might, may as well be prepared to swap to PS. Should I say that trait is essential or must have?
Well with a more optimal composition a PS is not needed in a lot of scenarios. e.g 2 eles + an engi in fractals can keep up 25 might between them and if something goes wrong its still pretty high, in dungeons you can prestack and burst a lot of fights making phalanx a waste of dps

In most dungeons scenarios no it isn’t, Scepter ele using 05540/04550 and a staff elementalist can stack max might between them, also scepter ELE is very good burst damage. Furthermore the warrior still maintains decent personal DPS. There are scenarios where a phallanx warrior and 2 staff eles are optimal, but for the most part it’s worse

I think necro is always in place
I did some testing earlier and found out that necromancer dps is actually higher than elementalist, plus it has more utility than guardian and the minions make up for the loss in banners. In fact, why don’t we just run 5 necros instead

I don’t see DD being viable to be honest, d/f has more utility, survival and slightly more control. The bosses you use dagger on are generally ones which last longer and are more difficult. So I don’t see DD or d/f becoming part of the dungeon meta as they are both unnecessary. For fractals offhand focus is much more useful for swirling/obsidian flesh. The issue with DD in dungeons is that fights are over so quickly that it’s not even worth using over say a scepter LH 05540/04550 DPS conjure build or a staff build

The only parties I think to avoid is ones with multiple warriors in, people who only play warrior are usually worse and need to learn to be more useful instead of providing no utility since the other warrior can bring both banners. Other than that it’s more the player than the class which is important.
You could just repair before you come in if you are really concerned. You shouldn’t die much at all in fractals though so I don’t think it’s an issue

Why don’t you just join a good pve guild and stop whining about it? Yes randoms suck in fractals because they don’t understand the content, but what do you expect from something which sometimes requires coordination to complete alongside 1 hit mechanics. I don’t think that people should have to state they are new, put up an LFG asking for gear ping zerker melee exp or something along those lines and kick them if they don’t meet the lfg requirements.
