You could probably conjure up some kind of viable healing build but it’s the fact that people use AH and ignore damage multipliers as well. In good parties anything but zerker is not needed. But in pugs you could probably mix some zerker with some healing with battle presence ect and be useful (picking up damage multipliers aka 10% while endurance not full). But some guards just stick to GS with cleric gear and think they are useful using AH
When are people going to realize that warriors are not the only good dps class.
In heavy armor?
No all around, people all have the mentality that you must play warrior over guardian if you want to have good dps, but it’s also for other classes
When are people going to realize that warriors are not the only good dps class.
Exactly. Use other forms of negating damage (blocks/protection/reflects) which don’t kitten your dps. and I pug fractals 30-40 using full zerk s/f fine, if i were to do 40+ would just swap to hammer and all would be good. You don’t have to kitten out on any dps on a guard and still support well (20 in virtues does wonders)
If it was life steal (a temporary way of getting some health back) it would be a nice concept (20% more damage for a few hits) but as it stands shelter is still better in pretty much any scenario
warriors are a face roll to play anyway, don’t see why you can’t just go zerkers? tanking in pve is useless and not really possible (yes a few exceptions) but still.
If i invite a warrior I expect top notch DPS
Lets be honest the update was pretty boring. Buffed retributive armour, yay a buff to AH guardians.. buffed powerful blades, as you said not needed. Condition damage stuff…. oh please anet who the hell uses condition damage that is just tacking the mick, zealous blade, healing power? really? overall I am not impressed but an extra 5% damage on sword I will take. I really don’t get it because sword was and is still the guardians strongest dps weapon so it makes no sense to me at all
I’m sorry but it’s the fact that clerics think they are helping people when they are actually gimping everyone else in the groups survival and taking forever to do anything
As a lot of you are aware on your daily dungeon basis in pugs you are often landed with a cleric guardian. I am sure a lot of the more experienced players know that healing power in pve has very limited uses in dungeon play. In fact it is the opposite.
Now I’m not saying go full zerker ect (even though it would be nice)
But please stay away from this gear
If you kill stuff faster you leave less space for error, and dps massively out performs the healing a cleric can provide. If you want to support your party kill stuff quickly. That is the truth
For anyone using clerics I am sorry but this is true.
I just wanted to tell players so that they don’t buy this horrid armor set
Now I know healing power has its uses in wvw but for dungeons PLEASE don’t use it.
Yours sincerely,
a normal dungeon player runner
Honestly the only way to achieve living-through-every-mistake on a guard is by using AH which is bad as it gimps your dps a lot. What i’m trying to say here is swapping out a few pieces for anything isn’t going to make barely any difference to your survival. Might as well stick with zerk, and I don’t know why anyone would use soldiers gear unless they are blind
Guards already have good dps OR strong condition removal + support. We can’t have both, and our middle ground is bad too. We either sacrifice too heavy on one side or the other.
Actually using 10,30,0,5,25 with sword focus I think you will find we can
anything running clerics = kick in dungeons, but a warrior..
Heres an idea:
It provides protection for 7 seconds and aegis for 20
5th skill:
Creates a dome around you which lasts for 6 seconds and reflects projectiles as well as curing a condition on allies
I don’t know why you are complaining about dps, guards already do good dps and have strong condition removal + support, they are currently one of the strongest classes in pve for example in high level fractals even 2 guards are optimal. But yes I agree the release wasn’t exactly good
Crap. Why can’t we have a cool active signet like signet of malice or something? Oh wait we have health regen… (anet’s view) but wait again, the passive effect of virtues is garbage so please give us something useful apart from shelter
0,0,30,30,10 is an awful trait set up and was out dated half a year back. AH is only good for learning to play guardian in pve, nothing else(yes i know its good for wvw zerging im talking pve here). 15,15,0,20,10 for hammer (10 points choice) and 0,30,0,5,25 for s/f (probably the best right now) lean more towards zerker gear and if you have trouble surviving swap in some knights or Valkyries (soldiers is just too bad)
the blind is for might stacking with blind exposure since all sword guardian builds should use the trait, focus isn’t amazing or anything but its way better than the shield
bad builds… bad builds everywhere
Sword/focus does high sustained damage and is very reliable with hits, it has condition removal, 2 blinds (3 with VoJ), regen, blast finisher/3blocks/burst dps not to mention a mini blink (blinding blade). Basically the sword is awesome, but there is no shame is using the hammer as the guy above me stated, it is a great weapon, has good dps and good support with drawbacks being slow (sometimes hard to land all your chain e.g subject alpha) and having lower mobility that other weapons (sword/gs). GS i don’t like but you can use it on rotation with s/f if you want to (light field/unreliable hits/general laziness) is the reason i dont use it on rotation. I’m not sure that in single target scenarios anyway the dps increase is worth rotation, especially after this getting a buff later today.
No, hammer for support and sword for dps, I say that but hammer is also perfectly viable in dps builds
1 they are easy to get
2 there are many ways to get dragonite
3 you don’t “have” to you can just get higher agony infusion slots
zerker, scholar runes = best pve option
If you run sword/focus with 10,30,0,5,25 you can’t go wrong (;
Oh, if you plan on doing dungeons always bring master of consecrations, Wall of Reflection is one of our strongest skills!
It’s mainly due to the players preference, Thief can deal higher damage and blind everything as well as making dungeon skips easy, I would say for pugging a zerker guardian would be better though because you can offer cond removal reflects aegis stability all while dealing high damage
I play guard but I think I would find thief more fun personally
Rangers have spotter and frost spirit. Both great utilities especially for buffing the damage of pugs. But the main problem is most rangers just run easy(bad) mode with a bow
pvt gear should only be used for teq or world bosses, for dungeons it is disgustingly bad and anyone using it should learn to play better

the build linked above is great for roaming, but I would try to find another way to get in a bit more crit chance, traveler runes are GREAT for roaming on mediation builds. They make you very quick, high damage and versatile
Since you are using AH sigil of accuracy gives you higher chance to trigger empowering might and also does damage so it gives damage + survival, hydromancy is good for control, stamina is good for just tagging enemies and dodging everywhere, sigil of luck for yolo, sigil of strength for self heal + might stacks, basically whatever, I use force on mine but i do pve dungeons and i dont use Ah so force is the best option for strait dps
I agree with you, I find the aegis shield really annoying. Supported.
It really irritates me that when playing my asura guardian the weapons I can use without ground clipping is very, very limited. Most of the great swords and swords have clipping issues with the ground, even some of the focus’ do. This really needs to be addressed by lowering the size of swords/great swords on asura’s
I say always use 20 in virtues for Absolute Resolution, it’s worth the 10% trade off imo
I feel celestial isn’t really suited to guardian to be honest. If you think about it, more armor isn’t the way to go because of our small health pools, the loss in power is also pretty high. The only stats which will make much difference are Power precision crit dmg and vitality, (healing power if you trait for heals of dodgerolls/symbol healing idk)
I would just stick to zerker but if you have trouble surviving swap in some valk gear (with your build though knights would probally be better due to low crit chance)
I have a very low health pool anyway (11400) so the heal for me really isn’t too small at all. But its the fact that its not only a heal but a way of avoiding damage. For example if you are feeling lazy in coe you can pop it up and block alphas aoe, or maybe running through dungeon paths. The fact you avoid damage makes it so good
Exactly what trice said
That is the build I use and I promise you for pve it basically rules. It maximizes your potential as a guard, Top notch dps along with enough support. If you planning on running dungeons I highly recommend you use this build, It’s basically 10,30,0,0,20 with 10 points of choice, I like more damage and vigor so i went for 10,30,0,5,25. 10,30,0,0,30 is the max dps variant retaining enough support but I feel vigor is very powerful since I pug a lot and in dungeons like HotW (dodging the troll) CoE (Killing alpha with noobs) those extra dodges are really worth it! anyway, deffo worth giving this build a try
Also feel free to PM me in game if you want advise on utilities in certain circumstances, or just general guardian questions ~Zorkoma
(edited by Painbow.6059)
this is my build I use for dungeons, fractals everything, bring all the support you need for your party, ( reflects, consecrations, condition removal ) alongside with big dps, if you run this build in dungeons you CANT go wrong. I use it in pugs, coordinated teams the lot, it’s awesome
Shelter is pretty perfect for me
Well your build isn’t gonna hit anything good anyway because it sucks and all of your items suck but zerker would be the obvious choice for more crit dmg
zerker for everything pve
As the title suggests I am building a pc optimized for gw2 on a budget of 600 British pounds. I would prefer it to be less but 600 is the absolute max
I don’t see anything wrong with it to be honest
I think that increasing virtue recharge is ok but not great at the moment. I think 2% per point might be a little but too powerful thought not sure. That being said about virtues I feel they are a very core part about being a guardian as virtues are one of the things which set guards apart from other classes
Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong.
I hope you don’t mind if I immortalize this in my signature.
not at all
Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong. Berserker armor with Scholar runes and zerker trinkets is the BEST armor for pve. Anyone using soldiers/AH for pve is just bad.
if you were to run that in dungeons I would kick you without a second thought, for dungeons that is just about the worst build I have ever seen in my entire life
Condition damage healing power guardian is the new meta
I don’t play ele but scholar runes. If you want more sustain divinity runes, or maybe mix boon duration with ruby orbs for pugging for better upkeep of might
it doesn’t matter
I like the idea of rage runes with boon duration for fury, that is pretty original, but healing power is just bad in dungeons and pve except from maybe frontline teq, even then soldiers would be better. If you plan on doing pve dungeons and stuff using healing power is just bad and should never be used
