Can we have just one thread where people are not complaining about things, and actually following the topic? I find play time to be a way for people to justify their bad luck, instead it should be for showing how much you have put into the game because you love it!

People refuse to buy outfits because they will look exactly like other players. Hmmmmmmm. So you either care so much about what other peoples idea of a good looking/themed character is that you don’t want to look the same OR you care about your own look and its needs to be original?

That dwayna back piece, that t3 norn/human, that legendary…. i could go on. Someone will always have the same look as you no matter how unique you think you are at designing.

You aren’t forced to even complete the last arc, if any of the story. People don’t usually play MMOs to do everything on their own, and its a good way to get people into the habit of teaming up to do other parts of the game. As it was intended.

5 players all teaming up to complete a common goal. I don’t see how this is any different to the first ever instance you are placed into just as you create your character with other players coming in.

You see players through out the whole game but you still expect the whole game to be centered around you?

Guild doesn’t necessarily mean a big amount of people. PvP is in essence a version of a guild that is fighting each other. If they made a guild battle where each guild only had a set number of players, then people would only have one guild and there would always be a limit of how many players are in it.
So it would just make it really bad for new players and others wanting to get into it as it would be more full of elitists than it already is when it isn’t supervised or contained.

Right, because this isn’t the first time they’ve made changes to the game without taking matters into context and always bug free so we should mindlessly accept everything without question. Oh, and I’m sure there’s some PTR right?

Meanwhile, I’d like to discuss something about actual game mechanics like those about Elite focus, but considering you’re not really capable of typing much besides two letters, we’ll just leave it at that.

You seem like you haven’t been into the game to see how these changes actually affect the game, meanwhile you show your immense knowledge on bug and glitch testing when comparing a small controlled sample size to a huge uncontrolled one.
Get into the game, try out the new changes when you have tested them for a week then come back and tell us you are completely against them.

Anet are not trying to kill the game and there are always reasons behind their changes to the games, even if you cannot see it yourself.

Grind is still grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Panites.6798

Panites.6798

So all i have gained from this thread is the realization that there are more self entitled players in this game than it thought. MMOs need a type of grind to keep those players in the game that want to achieve something that takes time.

Most people need goals or visions of what they want to achieve in the future. Working for money is a grind but people do it to achieve a set thing over time.
Without any grind in a MMO, people would only pvp’/wvw for competition and no one would PvE, which is a huge part of the game. There would be no crown pavilion because it is a grind, no marionette, no wintersday, no dragon bash, no SAB, not evne fractals of dungeons. There is no room for anything that involves more than 1 hour of participation because then it becomes a grind.

Sure the game isn’t optimized for those who want to achieve everything in 1 hour, but without it people wouldn’t play the game. You cant please everyone.

Play another game if the minimal grind that is fully optional offends you. We have a cosmetic grind that NEEDS to be long to keep people in the game.

Casual gameplay doesn’t mean that everything has to be easy, it just means that the time investment either has to be incremental or limited.

You can’t have 4 hour sagas where you can’t stop mid way and call it casual, You can have intense challenging 15-30 minute battles where you’re pushed to your limit.

I wouldn’t call myself hardcore compared to my old days in MMOs, I simply don’t ahve the ability or desire to do 4 hours raids anymore, but, I very much desire a 15-30 minute battle that has me failing consistently where I may take the full 2 weeks of trying to finally succeed.

Again, Casual means you don’t invest everything into the game, it does not mean that you can’t handle a challenge.

I fully agree with you, but as a human being we always look for the easiest and best rewarding road to go down. Sure there are outliers but most of the population works with way.
CoF 1 was farmed because it was easy, fast and rewarded well for the time dedicated. CoF3 I don’t think has ever been farmed, sure once you know the mechanics and how it works but its so challenging in a pug group that people just don’t do it.

This is why a holy trinity or hard content will never properly work in GW2, and I don’t mind. I enjoy GW2 for what it has, meanwhile there’s a monumental amount of other games to play if I want challenging PvE content.

Panites.6798

The problem is see in this thread is the of peoples opinions. Sure you can have them but no every opinion is correct. GW2 has no hard/hardcore content as it is made for the a casual player to be on the same level as a regular constant player.

Its fashion wars 2, not raid wars 2. You simply cannot have hard, challenging and time consuming content without a good reward. In this case, the regular player base would do these raids while those who enjoy being casual would be at a disadvantage.

GW2 rewards are mostly based on RNG luck to get a shiny weapon, if it were to reward you with a better armor/weapon at the end of a 1+ hour raid that gave you 25% more stats than what the casual players had, there would be an uproar. Creating an even more elitist community where the new players would have to spend a year just to catch up to the elitists and the casuals would just quit.

WvW would be dominated by elite PvErs and then they wouldn’t play PvP because they don’t keep their gear they spent weeks on to farm for.
This is the dilemma. Make a game where the highest stats only give you roughly 5% increase while a casual player can feel like they can compete at the same level OR, make a game you have to farm for hours to get items that give you a significant advantage over other players ie. WoW PvP.

This is what ‘holy trinity’ end game is focused on. You need a party to do hard content when they all fulfill their roles and WANT to play it.

I have played a healer in every mmo that has one, and usually get treated two different ways. Abused for not keeping a self righteous dps’er alive or no communication. You hardly ever get a thanks when puging. Im used to it but it severely impacts new players.

I haven’t found a study or a poll on DPS characters to tank/healers but my guess is its roughly 40%.
Newer games like Tera, Rift, Black Desert etc all have healers/tankers but they do a significant amount of damage these days so they are in theory a hybrid and not part of a trinity until someone tries to force them into the role.

Not healthy for any game.

Panites.6798

This is a stupid thread that just creates arguments, GW2 will never have a trinity in mmo terms as it doesn’t need it. The game isn’t based around farming dungeons for better rewards, it is more focused on enjoying what you are doing.

The game simply doesn’t reward hard content for the time and 9 times out of 10, people will do cof 1 instead of cof 3 if they only have time to do one dungeon. Its easier, faster and gives same rewards.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Panites.6798

Holy trinity just wouldn’t work in GW2, and people don’t want it to work. For holy trinity you NEED a dungeon gear grind and time sink. GW2 has none of that and i’m glad, ive spent too many hours grinding for some kittenty gear just so i can then grind for better gear to do the next dungeon. Its stupidly boring and only certain people who have been forced into thinking this is end game enjoy it.

End game is the worst idea developers have put into any MMO players minds. It refers to running dungeons/raids hundreds of times to get gear that everyone else is also mindlessly grinding for. Its just boring and the only way to keep you in the game is because it is so called ‘End Game’ that everyone else is brain washed into thinking that its cool.

Holy trinity is boring and would make this game worse, would lose half the mechanics that make it NOT a holy trinity and then just a regular grind kittenty game.

PvE is easy in any game after you run it 3+ times.

The only problem with this build is the sustain, it has hardly any except for hold the line, and virtues. Hits abit less than a medi but excels in 2v2+. The only way i see this become a stronger build and viable though is if we get a shout that gives us a instant heal, we dont need the 2k per shout as i see that as breaking it. Hope for HoT!!!

There are no repercussions except for a time out or ban which you can just create a new account on twitch, this is why no one takes it seriously.

Thanks for the suggestions i will try them, and i completely agree with you on guardian being greater in a group fight rather than 1v1. I think it does come down to being confident in dueling and experience and picking my own fights.

Don’t get me wrong though, i enjoying winning with team work as everyone does and most of the time we guardians will participate in team fights. But in that one or two times in a match where we are the only one fighting on a point, i do want to win that fight and when i lose multiple fights it does get your moral down and makes you think if the class is for you.

Anyways guys thanks for all the input and i’m glad i’m not alone in this matter, ill keep trying at different builds and trying to conserve my medis, especially in those scary bursted down moments.

Thanks guys, all valid points.

I think it comes down to my mentality at the time of the fight and who im versing. I agree that 1v1 isnt the main focus of GW2 pvp but if i simply cannot muster the strength to 1v1 most classes or at least hold out, then i am nearly useless to my team if they can all do it.
It may be a team game but to work as a team that you just met, you need to rely on the other players in your group to be able to do their role and successfully win what they are applying themselves to.

This can often mean a 1v1 at far or home. Whether i’’m a bunker or medi variant, i should still be able to hold them for long enough to make them lose points or beat them to gain the upper hand.

I did play around last night with switching to soldiers amulet and felt alot more comfortable with a larger health pool that didnt get bursted down straight away ie. an eviserate that hits for 6k doesnt completely mess up my rotations and i can stay clam.

Panites.6798

First off i don’t claim to be any part of a good player, i’m terrible. I am bad at rotations and play from a couch so i’m not in the most attention focused position i could be in.

I feel after numerous pvp games on guardian (373 ranked 422 unranked) that i have either fell out of guardian or have just been going at it the wrong way. Playing guardian be it bunker, medi or what ever, i just get beaten by most players now days. Sure i can get into the zone and hit all my buttons correctly and get a few kills, but in most 1v1 match ups against most builds these days i feel lackluster.

Shoutbow, d/d ele, engis even a shatter mesmer or d/p thief. They can all usually beat me unless i get my burst in earlier than they expect or they don’t see it coming. All thesé classes have a way of mitigating my damage of getting out of it the same as i can but with better survival and situational skills.

They either kite me, CC me, outright overpower me or go invis/leave. From playing most classes i get the feeling that you really need to press your 1 key as a guardian now days and stay on targets. If i don’’t do this i’m basically screwed as i am applying no pressure which helps all these classes.

Is it the meta taking over or i have just not adapted to how people are playing these builds? It makes me want to even change to say a ranger or necro to try something that has different mechanics and not two singular paths, shouts or medis.
And i have played guardian from release.

Do i just need to get into these 1v1 servers again and get muscle memory back on how to take on each class and build? Or is it more of an attitude thing where i just predict they will beat me with their cele build?

24 hour availability screwed me

As it has been said, too many skills and options would eventually lead to the same state of game we are in at the moment. Cookie cutter builds are in every mmo and the more skills there are, the less ones are getting used and are obsolete.

Now as for energy, it is a redundant form of skill gating requires even less effort in order to do rotations for the best energy based skills. Cooldowns allow for skills to be balanced easily compared to spamable skills, this is why thief weapons are in a good place because they are balanced around stable skills.

I highly doubt anet will bring it back for every class but as it has been stated, revenant will have a form of energy that skills use, maybe the new specializations will also have these.

This is GW2 and you should never expect the same thing in a sequel, that’s just straight up boring no matter whether its a song, movie or game.

These are just my opinions, as are yours.

Panites.6798

I personal couldn’t give a kitten about lore or about the gods, i care about my character. This is a cool outfit and i’m willing to buy it because it looks cool and you can swap to them AT ANYTIME.

Say you are to receive these skins/outfits after completeting the equivalent to all arah paths in 2 hours without any of your party getting downed, then these skins would be truly legendary.
I doubt 99% of the community could do this but if people work hard and spent insane hours at it like the elite PvE players, it could be achieved.

Or do you want something a lot easier that 99% of the community can complete, given that the game content simply cannot become hard because of the RNG involved in drops already implemented in every form of the game.
What i am saying is, is that the game is casual friendly in terms of difficulty and there is no way to change that except for making something exceptionally difficult.

Humans will always subconsciously go the easier route that rewards the best, or in terms of time spent for the best reward. Your forms of gaining these items would have no RNG related else people would simply not do them if too hard, or it would be too easy and everyone would have the skin.

The only way i see these ‘god’ skins becoming attainable as you would like, is through a quest such as of mawdrey with a difficulty level that requires complete 100% attention and cooperation.

Oh and what about the players who dislike PvE and only enjoy PvP or WvW? Are you now going to limit them doing this difficult feat because they dislike that part of the game?

Good job taking it out of context and appling no meaningful input to a topic.
Logic has nothing to do with it, it is to do with being mature and respectful of other peoples time.

I made the thread due to the fact ive had many games ruined by people afking on purpose due to them either getting annoyed at the team, has played with an ally before and dislikes them, having a bad day and taking it out on the team etc.

I dont think needing to go toilet during a game is looked down apon by anyone but purposly packing a hissy fit when you dont get what you want or doing it to try and get a reaction from someone should be punishable.

They committed to the game buy pressing accept which in the real world would be seen as a signature or accepting that they give that time to the game.

This is for both ranked and unranked as in both game modes you are still giving time of your life to play usually with strangers in hopes of them being of a similar attitude to your own and team.

Sure peoples dogs get caught on fire all the time but theres not even a report function for people afking either on purpose or not, let alone hackers.

So if we have T1/2 and 3, why are the rewards the same for coming 1st ,second or third in each tier? What is the point of even having tiers if they dont offer anything for the ones that are actually trying?
I get that you want to balance it out for the servers with less players/less wvw players, but why not make the rewards in a form of how the server performs based on their tier OR individually with how much participation the individual does?

Yes i am from SoS and yes i am kittened.
I would rate our server a T1.5 as we can win most T2 match ups because alot of those players left to T1 servers, but we get mostly dumped on by T1s.

A lot of my guild members left because they saw this happening before the season started and knew we would get matched up with T1 servers at some point and get dominated.
Yes i play this game for the rewards as well as fun, doesn’t everyone?

I’m probably just going to get the 5 captures in EoTM and be done for the week with wvw as i’m not going to spend 40+ hours pushing with our server to get a measly reward while trying darn hard.

I guess as my guildie said it i am a “pver with a sense of entitlement”, who of course 2 weeks ago transferred to BG.

What are you guys opinions?

It seems this thread has gotten to the length where whatever i say and whatever has been said, the OP ignores it.
Stop being a whiny kitten because you didn’t drop a precusor.
ALOT of us don’t drop precusors and get over it.
Legendaries aren’t what makes the game good, if you think it does and thats all you care about quit now.
