No it’s not fair at all, it’s heavily biased towards your own opinion.
Nowhere is there the option to say I like that new contents being added, but I’m not sure about the stats increase.
Nor is there an option to say I’d like to try it before I jump to inflated opinions based on very little drip fed information.
I really don’t understand the reasoning for adding a gap closer with higher stats when Legendary’s didn’t have higher stats before the expansion, the gap that had to be closed was simple: time and effort to get a weapon with same stats but a ‘legendary’ skin. In my opinion the gap that had to be closed was: introduction of legendary armor (with no stat increase), since there is, to my knowledge, no legendary armor in game. Even worse, the stats of Legendary’s will probably be increased to the new ascended standard. Which means they do not fill a gap between excotic and legendary, they actually create an additional gap between excotic and legendary.
I also don’t understand the reasoning that if you add more content, the armor you should have should be better (ref: GW1 -> 3 campaigns + 1 expansion -> no increase in stats on gear nor on weapons).
I don’t know yet if I think it is a bad thing (I am probably going to try and get it anyway), but i’m very dissappointed in the reasoning as it is clearly flawed.
The reasoning isn’t flawed. Linsey explained it all in her blog post. They are doing this to appease treadmill-progression gear-grinders, and have been planning to do so since before launch. The original game philosophy is out. This is the beginning of new philosophy, where new gear/items is supposed to satisfy a “basic need” for character progression, as Linsey stated in her GW2 blog post. The old philosophy was about providing a sense of accomplishment, which could be achieved via cosmetics. In the old philosophy, progression was capped at exotic/legendary stats. In the old philosophy, “the whole game is the end game”.
Read Linsey’s blog post. The old philosophy has clearly and unequivocally been purposefully abandoned. This is not a hasty “mistake” on their part where we can show them the error and they fix it. This has been planned for many months and is an integral part of how GW2 is going to be expanding in the future.
ANET has adopted a never-ending progression-grind model for GW2. Part of a good con job is keep the mark hopeful and/or confused to the point that they go along with the con because they can’t believe people would so blatantly lie and mislead, and try to interpret what is begin said/done in a way where they (the marks) don’t feel foolish and stupid for having fallen for the con job.
They conned us. It’s really that simple. Fortunately, I got my money’s worth of entertainment, even though I dislike the fact that once again I’ve provided funding to con me. But, what the heck, con men gotta make a living too.
You based that all on a ring with a couple of extra stats, without seeing the patch in the open, the 200 extra crafting recipes, the “we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards.”
The fact is we’ve been given very little information, but most of it is contrary to what you’ve just said.
What most ppl don’t see, is that we are getting 2 new tiers of gear in the future:
“Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two.”
So legendary gear will be better than the new ascended gear which is just the first step into the grind for the best gear. Otherwise this sentence wouldn’t make any sense.
Do not want…
Wrong
" Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items."
Don’t make baseless assumptions before reading the actual articles your discussing.
I play too many mmos, and all where the same:
opening – “we are diferent then others”
6 monts – we implement this “unreequired” option for more competitive players cough cash spenders*cough*
9-12 months – if you wanna win you need to payWe all see this new “progression” and we all know where that progression leads :pay to win. Question is how long?
(not to mention how many minutes it takes for this post to be deleted)
Didnt you see the fighting costumes at the gemstore?
Witch its totally OP compared with other costumes, plus they can use utilities. We already have a p2w game.
That was a mini game, the Witch was only a convenience, it had very little effect after Halloween was over.
If people want to spend real money for convenience, let them.
Never its Arenanet! Try to stop all this QQ topis…
Crafting a legendary isnt req as “better” item its just about skin…
When will ppl learn to know what is skin or what is stats on items…I don’t believe that will be the case after the patch. They are bolstering legendary weapons up to match the new tiers level if my comprehension of their latest info is correct.
Still you will have change to get new weapons via dungeons, tokens… etc with same stats.
hmm, but they arent releasing the new tier weapons with this patch, it may be months before they are introduced.
They are unclear as the when a legendary weapons stats will be boosted. Will it be tomorrow? When their comperable weapon type in the new tier is introduced? I don’t know, but those with legendaries may have the upper hand for some months to come.
There is no way they are going to improve legendary items before players can obtain equal stated items elsewhere in the game. They said as much in the original blog post.
“So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items.”
It more or less just became it. Crafting a legendary requires gold, tons of gold, which you can buy. And they’re now officially the only gear tier that won’t be obsoleted stats-wise.
Pay 2 Win implies that you HAVE to spend money to win. Legendary weapons are no better stats wise than whatever the top gear in the game is, which is easily attainable through a variety of means.
Currently that is Exotics, which can be attained through crafting/dungeons/karma or the TP.
On release of the Ascended weapons in the future, it’ll be ascended weapons that arguably are the best and the legendary weapons stats will reflect those.
These ascended items will also be obtainable in exactly the same means as the exotic weapons (in time). As stated by the recent forum post.
Whilst paying cash for gems, conveniences the player by allowing them to purchase said items with real money, only speeds up the process therefore they gain no significant advantage over anybody else by doing so, and therefore is not “Play to Win”
We also don’t know how infusions will be implemented, and if they are dungeon specific and if they are or aren’t attainable in any other means than in the dungeon itself, meaning no amount of money spent will allow any advantage in the acquisition of infusions.
We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
How to sound reassuring but not being so.
The fact that they said every 3 months doesn’t mean they are not going to do it in 6…9…12 monthsI’m very pessimistic about how GW2 will look in a year or two.
What’s next on the menu ?
Level Cap raised to 90 in future paid expansion(s) ?
After all, once you break your own Golden Rules, the worse can be expected.Pleas prove me wrong Arena Net
The reason he said three months was because Guild Wars 2 has been out for what..1…2…3 months!
Stop over thinking everything, and spreading baseless doom mongering.
I’m on the fence till it’s released. Whilst not in favor of the extra stats on the Ascended items, I fear a lot of people in here are giving one screen shot and a short blog post too much thought.
The implementation of the items could be totally different to what people fear. There’s 200 more crafting recipes, that could add:
a) Craft-able ascendance items (as well as the already stated backpacks).
b) Gems/Runes that make ascended items equal to current exotics when equipped.
There’s also the infusions to consider. Depending on the implementation, they could be used in a variety of different ways. As Anet haven’t stated what they actually do apart from being offensive or defensive, then all we can do is speculate until it’s release.
As mentioned before, the ascended items could also be stat biased, so that they only drop in specific stat patterns, which whilst being suitable for dungeon running are actually inferior to gem equipped exotic items.
For me there are too many factors to consider before I get too worked up about what it can bring to the game or whether or not it is actually going against the manifesto as so many players have their hearts set on.
I reserve my right to reserve my judgement before I am adequately equipped with the knowledge to make more informed, considered opinions on these new features.
I don’t want an inspect option for the exact reason you list. It involves everything I hated about gear treadmill type games.
Whilst you maybe one of the legitimate players who isn’t a complete tool, for every one of you there will be ten more:
“He still has a rare necklace! Kick him! "
Next they’ll be asking for visible gear-score, and link-able achievements, and we’ll be knee deep in elitist jerks.
As would a minipet tab. Keeping them in an invisible bag just seems like overkill.
My Thief is condition damage spec.
Love watching the numbers fly out above them as they try and run.
They are counterparts to the conditions. Speed is counterpart to Cripple, Regeneration is Counterpart to conditional damage, Toughness is a counterpart to Weakness. Not all of the various condition/boon effects have counterparts, but a lot of them do.
@Sekin
Yes, those would most likely be bots. They often run around in packs of 2-5+ attacking the same enemies with identical attacks.
@Caedmon
I’m pretty sure he was being sarcastic. At least that’s the impression I got.
Thanks for that, I enjoyed your post. I wish you luck with your quest to get appropriate action carried out against this foul mouthed banker.
@Garenthal I really hope he did. Having worked in a customer facing role, it was people like the OP that made your day and restored your faith in humanity after several obnoxious customers.
GW1 Had a gear plateau and GW2 was advertised to have the same. If you don’t see armour skins as something to work towards then I hate to say it, you won’t find what your looking for here.
Arena Net made a big stand about having everybody on level pegging. The endgame reflects that. I personally like the way they’ve done it, I enjoy getting better aesthetically pleasing armour, and I really don’t miss having to chase more numbers.
In terms of PvP it’s more of the same, it’s like if your into Call of Duty; when you have all your unlocks (think of this like leveling 1-80), you keep playing it because you enjoy it, not because they offer you a gun that kills people faster. Why would you consider this PvP any different?
If you love the amazing world, go out into it, complete the jumping puzzles, and the new explorer achievements.
Aside from that, I don’t know what else to suggest.
Also no to a FFA. It’s totally Lore unfriendly, and adding lore for lore’s sake to get a FFA world wouldn’t work. Also the way the games built, PvP in the PvE world would be totally open to all kinds of grieving, think players blocking event chains, camping jumping puzzles, etc. The games build to be cooperative, with a separate WvWvW area for open zone pvp.
Love them, done most of them more than once, and have the 4 new ones completed. Bit dissapointed I’m going to miss the Mad Kings Clock Tower, but never mind.
My only real gripe is that since they “fixed” the camera it seems to go through walls a lot.
It’s been said before, but I would support it
That said, with the great efforts Anet have gone to to keep the PvE always co-operative and separate from PvP, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a “in the mists only” kind of thing.
Seen plenty of TP preview suggestions, however have yet to see this mentioned.
Currently weapons with special effects are preview-able but appear invisible. It’s a shame that a game that’s main PvE focus is based around looking great but some of the best looking weapons can’t be shown in preview.
For example I finally got my Thief to 80 and crafted my 2x Tear of Grenth. But can’t show them to anybody through links as they don’t show up in the preview.
The blades on the Sylvari cultural weapons also don’t preview, as well as the ghost weaponry and mists weapons.
It’s a shame that some of the best weapon visual effects in the game currently don’t preview properly.
Hope you can do something about this, keep up the good work.
(edited by Pants.8315)
You’d be surprised at how useful the situational abilities are.
Also, if you don’t want to spend them, save them. My thief has over 100 waiting till I hit 80.
I’m happy with my Krytan armour too be honest. I also like the long coats, had one with some daggers attached to the sides for a good 20 levels or so. I’ve never ever liked the skimpy armour in MMO’s simply because it is called ‘armour’ for a reason.
I like that there are a few skimpier armour’s for those that way inclined, but they are in the minority to armour’s that actually have an aesthetic functional purpose. (By that I mean, it looks the way it does because it suits it’s funtion, your traveling around all over the world, stomping through mud, snow, rain, plants. I’d rather be wearing a coat or something that covers the majority of my body to be honest)
Normally just do it as I go a long to be honest. Haven’t found that I needed to go out of my way to compete it. Minus in Orr, where I normally have to head elsewhere for the kill variety.
I do them almost daily anyway, the mystic coins are going to come in useful for getting my 2 shiny daggers at 80.
They are long term goals. They are intended to take months and months to complete.
What you are complaining about is your own impatience with getting these long term goals. If you really want a legendary weapon for example, spend your play time working towards it, you won’t get it in a month like some of the people who play a lot lot more than you. But why is that a problem? If somebody is willing to spend a shed load of their own time in game, why shouldn’t they be rewarded for it?
If your too impatient to wait and gather materials for the item you want slowly, and buy gems/gold because of that, that’s not a problem with the game.
The lack of a very basic custom UI (moving the existing windows around) is akin to buying a new car with a non-adjustable drivers seat. Even SWTOR got that right. To me, just another example of a rushed to market game. If you say that it took five years and was right where it should have been upon release, then it’s a good example of lack of developer insight. Little things like UI, trading post graphical preview, poor camera/FOV mean a lot in a modern day polished MMO. To be different for the sake of being different doesn’t make any sense.
SWTOR didn’t have a customisable UI until 3/4 months after release…
I happen to like the UI in this game, I’m all for customisation, but as a base UI it’s pretty good, if it’s something that gets added down the line I’m all for it, but I’m certainly not desperate for it.
I don’t think it has anything to do with being different for the sake of it. They made the UI very painterly and it fits with the overall art style, all the bars and buttons link into one another and wouldn’t work as well split apart. I’d stay it’s more of a stylistic design choice.
I can’t really argue for or against FOV as I have no issues with the current one. I’d probably turn it up if there was an option to, but I’m not somebody who can’t play without it, or getting all up in arms about it.
I’m off myself on the 26th and won’t be back till after it all ends. There’s always Wintersday.
@Rizzy.8293 – your argument is illogical.
1. Dungeons are open to all at the appropriate level, so even if the instance loot had better stats it would be available to all who completed the instance.
2. Yes – reward for time spent is good. I can’t see the fun in running the same dungeon a dozen times for tokens knowing there is no reward at the end.
3. Outperform… see point 1. Also you do realize that anyone who crafts their gear can outperform those who rely on drops and have gear below their level right? Likewise anyone who makes $ can buy gear and outperform those who are poor. This is NOT at all like WOW and pvp purple gear which allowed pve players to outperform as you well know.
4. Skill based game… lol.
5. You want cosmetics – by all means knock yourself out. The hours of grind in an instance, for me, are better spent leveling alts or playing wvwvw.
The game has a gear plateau, it was intended and widely broadcast that this would be the case. It was always intended that cosmetic gear is something to work towards, not chasing an extra few stats to keep you on the performance edge.
Your argument about players and crafting is irrelevant, leveling up, people will have gear at all sorts of levels, if they choose to keep it up to date they can, it’s not difficult and everyone can do it. At max level once you’ve worked your way to exotics (which don’t give a totally insurmountable edge over people with them, like other MMO’s blues vs purples) you will have the same amount of stats as everyone else, and it’s up to you if you want to make your character look better, if you don’t care about that, it’s your decision, but the game hasn’t made any mistakes by not offering you other wise, as it was a design choice that was made very clear.
And yes skill based game play. I’d rather play sPvP with people all at the same level and be able to out perform somebody based purely on my own skill as a player. If I watch boons/conditions and time my abilities accordingly then I am going to beat somebody who doesn’t and visa versa. In a game with constant time-spent-playing-wins gear progression, unless I keep on the bleeding edge of gear, constantly all the time I will be at an often sever disadvantage regardless of how good or bad I am.
And to end it all, if you want to spend time doing WvWvW do it, I don’t see why you feel the need to bash players who actually enjoy this philosophy of cosmetic rewards.
Why should they stop using a feature of the game just for you? Actually, why do you even have emotes on in your main chat in the first place? If you plan to talk, have a tab that filters out anything that disrupts it. I have 3 tabs; 1 for general /map and /say, 1 for /guild, and the other for random battle stuff and emotes.
There’s a difference between using a game feature and abusing it to annoy other people. Emotes should follow the same rules as the chat filter stopping you spamming.
Why should anybody have to make a separate tab just to filter their chats out?
I’m on holiday from Friday, so I miss most of it anyway, including the final event. Ah well, there’s always Wintersday.
It definitely is odd to say the least that abilities that currently exist in the game have not already been fixed. It’s not like they need to rebalance anything. Just make them work like they should.
Also, I am in awe at the lack of a response on the Ranger SB issue. It has been proven with video evidence that the SB was nerfed and the attack speed reduced much more than ANet claimed. The worst part is that it was supposed to be an animation fix? If they overdid it by mistake how much programming does it really take to increase the speed to the intended value? If they were gonna nerf it at least come out and say it. I don’t play Ranger but that kind if practice really rubbed me the wrong way.
I love the Necro concept but in actuality the class is a mess and they are not the only ones. There are so many classes that render others obsolete. We’ll see what happens in the next few days… I would have much preferred to have 100% working classes than some Halloween cash-grab..
They have a dedicated sub-team making the content patches, not the same team they use to fix bugs, so the ‘halloween cash-grab’ (or actual event from Guild Wars 1 carrying on a yearly tradition) as you so crudely put it, should have no bearing on whether there are bug fixes included for classes.
Some guy in chat: HELP
Same guy in chat : PLZ
Someone else: Did you fall down a well?
Made me chuckle.
It’s a goal to work towards, not something you should be handed.
It’s rare because it’s purely for cosmetic purposes, they would have to include sets for each different stat combination otherwise. Your meant to use transmutation stones. edit: and no, not a plot to get you to buy gems, you can buy them with in-game gold and it’s relatively cheap. If you’ve spent the time collecting the funds for your set a couple of extra gold won’t hurt
Yes it’s considerably more expensive than the order armours. Is that a problem? No of course it’s not, it’s a different set.
Let’s put it this way.
The order armour is something the soldiers in the orders wear.
The cultural armour is something your cultures heroes where. As it’s something heroes wear, it’s expensive.
Well from what Gina has shown it looks like we can expect the final stage of Halloween the day after Halloween. Charming. It also sets the trend, meaning all Holiday events will be a day late for Europe etc.
Not that surprising but lets face it, it sucks![]()
What is the point of Holiday events if they are going to be at their peak after the event in the majority of the world?
I’m on holiday the last weekend and week after so I miss it anyway
May I ask why you haven’t been spending your Karma on the heart vendors on appropriate gear when you find it?
The drops are just generated by random numbers, they aren’t going to give you specific gear. Salvage it and use the materials to either craft or sell and buy armour on the trade post.
You can use the trade post anywhere in game and there are trade post pick up points on almost every single map, so you don’t need to ‘sit in town’.
There’s plenty of fun things to discover from exploring, just yesterday I found an inquest base in Sparkfly Fen, I jumped over a barrier and found myself in a room full of floating platforms, I eventually discovered that there were veteran mobs guarding 3 locks which unlocked gates to get to a splendid chest which was also guarded by a Veteran golem. No achievement attached to this puzzle but I had fun anyway.
They aren’t adding mounts, the way point systems more than efficient.
The answer to that is two fold.
If monsters couldn’t knock players off edge’s it would be immersion breaking to watch yourself hit an invisible wall.
If players could knock enemies off edges it would likely cause more bugs. (For example, knocking mobs down holes in SWToR used to bug regularly and you’d get mobs fighting you that you couldn’t hit and couldn’t get out of combat)
1. You mean those invisible walls I already run into yet clip right through planks and other things I should reasonably be able to stand on?
2. Just let the mobs take falling damage.
3. Any mob that you tag and dies should be autolooted straight into inventory to avoid the unreachable mob problem.
1. No I mean the artificial walls you hit in Guild Wars 1 when you run up to a cliff. Not invisible walls you run into when climbing places.
2/3. It wasn’t an issue with looting, or the falling damage. It was when the mob got stuck somewhere unreachable to the player and kept you continually in combat.
As much as it would be fun to knock mobs off of high places, I think it would cause more problems than you are considering. Leap skills for example, players knocking skill point NPC’s off of edges. etc etc. You’d have to go around making separate rules for separate enemies. What if during an event somebody knocks all the mobs off the side, this trivializes the entire event.
It might sound simple, but in reality it would be more of a hindrance than something fun.
Cape/Banner/Cloth Clipping and YOU! Lets brainstorm ideas about how to solve an issue which has plagued video games for years.
Posted by: Pants.8315
The cape in Arkham Asylum was really well done, having said that I remember seeing a video where they said they had somebody working specifically on the cape and nothing else, and I’m pretty sure Anet don’t have the resources to do that just for capes.
So far i am loving my story quests …
Also a good way to get in contact with the Lore of the game specially sinds i never played GW 1..
If you want to get behind the story further I would recommend reading Edge of Destiny, as it introduces Destiny’s Edge and a lot of the lore concerning the Elder Dragons.
Although you will probably find that Destiny’s Edge aren’t as well presented in the game
Also if you really get into it, read Ghosts of Ascalon. Will add extra significance to some of the characters you meet in Guild Wars 2, Dougal Keane in Lions Arch being one of them.
I enjoyed most of the story, up to a certain point where it felt like it was taken away from you a bit.
Trahearne
I did also quiet enjoy the story flowing through the dungeons, concerning the members of Destiny’s Edge.
I would like the inclusion of some more in-world missions, like the story, but more like missions for Guild Wars 1 and have them designed for several players. A cross between dungeons and missions I guess. Would be a nice way to stage a piece of story across the world building towards an expansion pack or something similar.
Also, this makes some interesting looking at if your interested in how the story is broken up. It’s essentially a flow chart of the story mission progression.
(edited by Pants.8315)
There is an intentional stats plateau, meaning your stats cannot increase further. This will not be changing.
They could possibly add extra ‘tiers’ of cosmetic gear, as this wouldn’t break one of the key design principles. However I don’t see this being implemented anytime soon.
Some harder paths for explorable with significant token values could work. Although they’d have to introduce a “tokens” tab to the collectibles section (which I would like anyway). Or even hard group based missions that take place in sections of the world (similar to the story missions now, but designed around groups).
Bleh, terrible system. They completely destroyed server communities with it and now it’s spread like a disease throughout the whole game. They have the worst gaming community because of that awful system.
If you want to play WoW, go play WoW. This is GW2.
Quite frankly this is not true, I played WoW for 5 years and LFD was the best thing that ever happened to the game.
You want social? Go to SW, type in, ‘look, all im saying is that GW2 revolutionized the genre’. You’ll start a social discussion.
You can crack jokes with your guild mates.
Elitism existed way before LFD, sorry to burst your bubble.
The LFD and Gearscore systems where 2 of the contributing factors to me quitting WoW.
I happen to like looking for players on my server to do dungeons with, I like talking to them whilst forming a group.
I enjoy having to actually talk to people in order to get a group together rather than having no interaction besides entering a queue.
I like being able to judge a players contribution to the dungeon with actions rather than numbers.
I enjoy playing with other people and running a dungeon with them, then passing them in Lion’s Arch and saying Hi.
Cross realm dungeon finder would kill all that. The dungeon finder was implemented to lessen the need to search for hours to find a tank or healer. As we can run dungeons with any class combination, that isn’t an issue.
edited a word that triggered the kitten filter
Offers various ways to view gear.
Also, I would recommend the PvP locker in the mists.
You sure you read that correctly. Because I’m pretty sure they switched them from account bound to character bound during the BWE’s.
The fact that you could spend 5 years on WoW already says something. The progression it offers is great and is what keeps people playing.
I cannot think of a single kitten thing to do other than WvW right now. I have full exotics, 100% map completion, and i have done all dungeons. And i have only played for 300hours so far. What the hell is 300hours compared to 5 years?
Fair point.
However, that wasn’t really the reason I bought WoW into the argument. I’ll probably play this game for an equal amount of time as well if it continues to expand in the same way as the original game did. (And I won’t be paying £7 a month). It wasn’t really meant to be a comparison of the games either, as I have enjoyed playing both (and I don’t see why liking one means I have to hate another).
I used it as an example to illustrate what I enjoy about the endgame in guild wars 2, and why I am glad it is different as it promotes me doing all the things I stopped doing in other MMO’s because they didn’t.
It was also an example of explaining what I like using evidence to back up my opinions, as opposed to just saying ‘Guild Wars 2 endgame is awesome’.
This is a game for casuals. What do you expect of a game with no subscription? I suggest you try WoW, it has a subscription and still has close to 10million players. If GW2 had a subscription, i doubt it would have even 500k players with it’s abomination of an endgame.
Re-imagined my kitten
Why is it an abomination of an endgame.
If it’s not what you like that is all well and good. “I don’t like the way the endgame plays, because of x y and z” would have been constructive and intelligent. Instead your just slandering it.
I personally like the way the end-game plays.
I played WoW for 5 years, I raided throughout my time in WoW, and I stopped playing when I realised the most fun I ever had in WoW was when I first got it at launch and spent my time doing things that weren’t based around progression.
I had gone from… traveling around, sky diving off of tall things (pre-flying mounts), playing with engineering gadgets, riding across deserts as 3 gnomes on mechanostriders seeing the horde lands we hadn’t discovered to…
Standing in Dalaran, instantly tele-porting to dungeons, and occasionally going afk whilst my flight path took me to a daily spot.
I left MMO’s for a bit, with a couple of excursions into LoTRO and Aion, then eventually got into SWO:TOR. I enjoyed most of my story missions, and leveled 2 characters to max in the space of 3 months. I quit again, when I realised I was just sat on my capital ship, heading to dungeons and getting my ship to daily locations. (Also got all the holocrons including the one on the capital ship (which was great fun to work out with my guild).
Roll around to GW2. I can go out and do anything I like at max level. Which includes pointless exploration into random places(and those random places exist, found the secret jumping puzzle in AC explorable?) And I still feel like I’m gaining things for doing whatever I like. GW2 end-game isn’t lacking, it delivers everything I want from it.
25 here. Happy with the game.
Um.
The shiny gold hearts and dynamic event chains that pop up on your map.
The heart NPC’s and quiet often the NPC’s around them all have things to say, as do the skill point NPC’s and NPC’s involved in the dynamic event chains.
In fact if you follow an event chain you often get dialog between the NPC’s throughout.
For example, I came across a Norn asking me to collect dwarven relics. I collected said dwarven relics, and he said thank you and ran off.
I didn’t have a quest or anything, but I followed him anyway to see where he came from.
He led me back to a norn house inscribed with the order of whispers icon and proceeded to have an argument with a charr about a particular relic I had collected that had a spell engraved on it that would summon something nasty.
At which point a bandit came running up the road with a bunch of other bandits and began another event fighting the bandits off.
The bandits eventually overwhelmed the NPC’s and captured them.
The bandit leader then read the spell on the relic and summoned a fire imp, the fire imp said it was bound to the stone summit dwarves, and as the bandit was not a dwarf he turned him into a fire imp.
This spawned another event to defeat the transformed bandit.
This is so much more organic and interesting than almost every other MMO “side-quest” that I have ever seen.
If you can’t see the wood from the tree’s, go out and explore.
I liked that one, I spent one evening dying in the swamp at the start of it, because I couldn’t solo all the mobs at my level at the time.
I spent another evening falling off with a group of random players, chatting and helping each other up until we eventually made it, the satisfaction of beating it was immense and made me glad I had done it.
Having finished all the jumping puzzles, I can’t wait for more in Oct 22nd patch
The last jump can be a pain. I found the easiest way to do it, was to use swiftness and jump at an angle towards the lowest part.
Had a walking train of us in Lions Arch using mystery tonics the other week, was quiet fun
I don’t want legendary armor in the game if it’s as big of a nuisance and a community destroyer as legendary weapons are. Tier 3 cultural armor is bad enough, and I don’t trust modern ANet to implement it correctly.
I fail to see how legendary weapons are community destroying?
All you have to do is mix up your message a little.
When looking for groups I try and make it sound a bit more interesting, as my messages have to be different to avoid the same message three times in a row.
I’d like a set of legendary armour, that requires time invested in some sort of challenge rather than just gathering materials to build it.
