Seriously? You got your last thread with the same comment locked so you made it again.

Not to mention the hyperbole of the statement in the first place.

They fixed two of the major bugs they managed to introduce by accident trying to fix other issues, it happens with patches, you can’t always predict the results even with testing.

They are all very similar really. They went overboard on the homogenization.

I have to disagree strongly, my Guardian (who on topic, is my most enjoyable), plays nothing like my thief at all(again on topic, my second favorite at the moment), and my Engineer feels totally different again.

The similarities with move types, whirls, blasts, projectiles etc. and the various combo fields is intentional and a system I particularly enjoy.

@bojangles

Having not played SWG I can’t comment, but WoW after vanilla/TBC community got gradually worse and worse. The introduction of gear scoring and LFG tool only increased the gradual decline of what was genuinely quiet pleasant to begin with.

ToR had a healthy mix of really nice people but some absolute obnoxious idiots. Such as people who get incredibly angry if you do something slightly lazily, Huttball springs to mind, if you missed one pass the whole game you could be at the receiving end of some totally un-needed abuse.

GW2 also has a mix, though I haven’t been shouted at yet for not performing at 100% 100% of the time, which has been pleasant, the community in general seems a lot more relaxed than some other MMO’s I have played. However, there have been times when people don’t talk at all, which is a little sad.

I agree on Tera, when there actually was some talking, not a great deal of it was very nice.

The fact that there are bugs isn’t really questionable. There are and they are fairly frequent.

However they aren’t " MASSIVE utterly game destroying bugs".

WvWvW, invisible players; I’ve experienced it, and it is a pain, but it’s also been acknowledged and is something I have no doubt being worked on to fix the issue.

Endless loading screens, again I have experienced, however it’s always been when Steam is updating something in the background. my issue.

Personal Story, I did a few missions several times because they bugged out. I still completed them. I also bug reported them so they can be worked out for future players running through the same missions. Not game breaking

Was locked out of Arah for a week due to a bugged event so couldn’t complete my personal story. Arah then bugged on my first play through so we had to start again.

The event was fixed in a patch, and Arah ran through fine on the second play through. Both instances, I /bug reported and went and did something else and came back when it was working.

It’s a massively multiplayer online game. You throw a few thousand people at something, your going to reveal holes in your coding. Holes take some time to fix, test, fix again, test again, release, monitor, fix, test..etc.etc.

No amount of stress tests/public tests will provide the same amount of numbers of players doing more different things as a live server.

The most productive thing you can do when you come across something that’s broken is to /bug and/or email, stating the problem and give as much information as possible.

Coming onto the forum and over exaggerating things isn’t productive. If you want something fixed you need to give clear concise feedback, not angry ranting.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think your missing the point of them being expensive.

They aren’t for stats, they are for looks. The large part of the Guild Wars 2 endgame is designed around chasing cosmetic skins for your armour to distinguish yourself from other players.

The cultural sets are designed to be rare, so that not many people have them, hence the price tag.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Really enjoying my time in Tyria.

Haven’t managed to log onto my Guardian yet to see how I get along with my buttons moving about, but I’m sure I will cope.

The depth and immersion into the world itself is what I really enjoy about the game.

As far as stats based progressions goes, it caps at 80 and I like that. It’s not like there aren’t any options for stats at 80, given there are x amounts of builds you can head into. (Went Power/Healing myself).

As for the statement about RPG’s being about stats, your aware RPG stands for role playing game? As in you play as a character, statistics are just a numerical display of what your character is good at, which you determine based on how you play and where you choose to allocate said stats.

Meaningful progression for me isn’t about how big my numbers are or how many achievements I have. It’s about doing things I haven’t done before, exploring, gathering sets, collecting things (I love dyes), genuinely playing my character for fun and not just trying to get better and better gear. I don’t need better gear, I like having a plateau.

New Event DR

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

I say when DR kicks in we should see a buff/boon appear on us with a timer as well, letting us know when and how long we got it. It seems totally fair to me. They also need to disclose the methods they are using in full detail.

The botters know because they mess around with it constantly. Normal people like me have no interest to play around with it because we are honest and not cheating. I can’t take another players word for it because there is nothing to compare it to. Everything people are saying here is PURELY speculation.

LOL I can picture someone doing their DEs with a stopwatch ticking away and a person standing there taking notes for good reliable data….NOT.

Can we get a graph or a spreadsheet guys? Can we get some ACTUAL data instead of this speculative word of mouth and off the hip quip stuff?

Not going to happen. They are simply not going to give you any data about how their anti-exploit code works. I don’t even know why anyone would think they would.

I have to be honest though. I have still yet to hit DR. Still never happened to me, been 80 for weeks, never experienced it during what I would consider ‘normal’ play. (Going from event to event mining nodes etc.).

Are there any plans to do something about the empty zones?

There’s a big friendly sticky thread at the top of the page.

I am disappointed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

1) The ranger “nerf” is a bug. Jon Peters even said he was looking into it. As far as class balance goes, I’ve never had any issues with it in general. Heard plenty of people talking about being facerolled by a Thief, but never had any issues with them myself. Same goes for other classes.

2) I have never had an issue with the uniqueness of my weapons. I have skinned all of mine to the lionguard models at the moment, easy to get, but I don’t see many people with them. Also the dye system allowed me to match my armour to my weapons.

3) Explorable mode dungeons offer your 3 different paths to choose from. Given the number of possible combinations of classes and abilities there are also several ways you can approach a boss fight, so I would disagree that they are linear.

Story mode dungeons are far from ‘too hard’. I’d love to see you in explorable mode if you think the story mode is hard.

If you aren’t using tactics, that’s your issue, and explains why you find the dungeons hard…(little example- story mode sorrows furnace golem boss. – guy in map chat saying it was impossible. We had just killed all three golems no problem simply because we stacked condition clearing skills and favored using mesmer/guardian reflect shields over damage. Went down easily.)

4) I enjoy PvP. Again, your issue, not the games.

5) Bots…look at the sticky thread.

Let's Start the Karma DR Dialogue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

To add (I can’t edit my post above), does the ~presence of botters~ affect how quickly regular players experience DR?

I work, so if I get a chance to play 2-3 hours a day, I’m lucky. The DR experience seems to have gotten much worse lately, as most regular players have already completed the content I’m still working on. If the bot:player ratio is part of the DR formula, casual players like me are really screwed.

I think the real issue is that it effects different players in different ways. I have yet to receive any any diminishing returns through normal play, yet some players on here have apparently received it within 25-30 minutes of normal play.

This is clearly (as a few people had suggested previously) a bug, which shows that the code does actually work for some of us in the correct way, i.e. I see no sign of it at all during normal play.

@ Rufio. DR is twofold, whilst it’s aimed at drop rates on items over long periods of time to prevent the detrimental effects of botting, he also mentions exploits.

Having a system that prevents large amount of karma being farmed is preventative to loopholes in the games design, such as bugged events etc etc. This means that if such an issue did arise the diminishing returns would limit the amount of gain somebody could exploit from the game.

As Jon said, there are issues where the code is being to harsh on some players, which is being ironed out in the coming weeks. So it should stop affecting ‘normal’ play.

Let's Start the Karma DR Dialogue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

The amount of utterly idiotic comments in this post is beyond belief.

Mostly those who are bashing the developers post, and those with the sheer audacity to call him a liar.

If you actually took the time to read and understand the post. The DR on Karma isn’t really about bots at all. DR on other things, such as drop rates and what not is aimed at bots.

It’s about having a (as Jon put it) ‘safety net’ to catch exploits.

If they unintentionally put something into the game that gives more karma than it was meant to, or something sells for way less than it is supposed to, Anet won’t have to sit and babysit the game, as with DR on Karma, this will limit the negative affect that such a bug would have on the game.

Obviously as he stated there are issues with the system. Such as normal players being penalized by said DR. Which they are working on fixing so normal play should not incur any DR.

Expecting this to take any less than a few weeks is plain ignorant. In order to balance a system that actively tracks how much somebody is doing something and when it should kick in (which seems to differ from player to player (bugs)), it will take a lot of data gathering in order to see where the problems lie and the best ways to fix it.

Not to mention a fair test period to work out whether the changes are working. (and yes, Anet test everything, they make software, of course they do. What they cannot plan for is what happens when you throw thousands of players at it at once, as even a public test realm wouldn’t supply the kinds of numbers that are in the live game)

I find it downright disrespectful to the developers that some people on this forum have such narrow minded and thoughtless reactions to a well written and considered post.

Make jumping puzzles less frustrating

Loved the jumping puzzles.

Have 100% the achievements for them now (which I was rather sad about). But keep going back and doing them.

Most frustrating for me would have been the one to carry an egg through the whole gryphon rookery. Learning the route from start to finish, then going back and accomplishing it without being hit took a fairly long time. But when I had finished I felt great about it.

For me, the more frustrating I found them, the more joy I got from reaching the end.

Currently for me, there are bigger concerns than tweaking mechanics, adding and changing content.

Number one is bugs. I encountered very few on my path to 80, but since then I have encountered more and more day by day.

For example, the event chain (on my server) leading to Arah is bugged so it’s been locked for a week now, preventing myself and many others from completing their personal stories. (Whilst I could change server, wait 24 hours and come back, I shouldn’t have to).

I’d rather focus on reporting all the broken event chains/skill points and dungeons than posting constructive suggestion to improve balance etc.

I’m enjoying the game a great deal, but I really want to see it running smoothly, as intended, before I start making subjective suggestions.

If you wouldn’t do it in real life, why would you do it on a game server.

In fact London’s not even a good example, as the GW2 EU servers aren’t even ‘English speaking’.

Some issues I find frustrating

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

I actually thoroughly enjoy the jumping puzzles. To the point that I have completed all of the achievement ones except a couple of the WvWvW ones, and the Jormag one, and one I need to head back and do now I have time.

I find some of them challenging, (the griffon rookery springs to mind), but never to the point of frustration, as I enjoy the challenge.

In reference to the story mission your referring to, I actually enjoyed it. The items you collect to open doors in an underwater temple, then have to have a look around for the next way through.

I happen to like exploring, and I like the idea of hearing a door open somewhere else in the temple and having to have a look for it, rather than having something telling me exactly where I must be at all times.

As for Orr’s mob placement, I have had times where it’s wound me up, but times where I saw my own error, and how I could have avoided certain lethal encounters. Again, I like learning from mistakes.

I can only assume your talking about the Risen Megladon (big shark, which also happens to be marked on your mini map) near Fort Trinity, whome I charged into only to get eaten in one shot as well. Except my reaction was; “oh well, won’t be attacking him on my own again”, and not banging my head against the desk.

Yes, I see the broken skill points/events too, and yes, whilst I am a little disappointed, I don’t throw my toys out of the pram, and will just go back to them after the next patch. Patience is a virtue after all.

The point I am trying to make, is enjoyment of somethings all down to attitude towards things.

I have total wanderlust in this game. I am more than happy (at level 80) to just wander round zones doing things, run an explorable here and there, or hop into pvp.

I enjoy challenging content, and I don’t get frustrated with dying in a video game, or lack the patience to come back and do something later.

The Nagging Fear that in endgame there wont really be a renewable game play based source of gold income, forcing me to buy gold through jewels

This right there is the source of most of the game’s shortcomings. Unfortunately it sort of comes with the business model of Pay2Win.

Just as well this isn’t pay2win then isn’t it.

Buying gems with real money is just faster than buying them with in game currency.

Pay2Win implies you get some sort of advantage over other players by spending money, which simply isn’t true as there isn’t a single thing in the game you can’t obtain through in game currency.

I bought one of my character slots with gold I earned just by leveling, converted it into gems. Simples.

Appreciate the thoughtful and well constructed post. +1 for that.

I don’t necessarily agree. (I play a guardian) I don’t really mind having to adapt to the boss and switch to range when needed. I think its a fundamental design choice that they want people to have to switch to ranged weaponry for some encounters.

Having said that playing melee I have found a few situations where the encounters could have been more carefully tied to the classes rather than the mechanics of the fight coming first.

Bosses that occasionally get funneled into small spaces and drop AoE rendering any kind of melee useless for example can be quiet frustrating. (Mobs that teleport are very guilty of this).

My personal opinion: Balance in gw2 is awefull.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

i think anet must have the worst balance team i have ever encountered.
no matter what aspect of gw2 we look at the balance is amazingly badly made.

Spvp balance is awefull. (some combinations are just rolf everything else, and the class imba is shiny so strongly through, combined with the awefull grouping system its just horrible)

class balance is so bad i can’t even descripe it. (some classes are grosely powerfull others useless)

wvw balance: the numbers are utterly off, one side is utterly dominating having 3 times the player on the map at any given moment making the balance and zerging mode so bad its just sad, add to that sides working together so its 2 sides v 1 making it even more horrible and there is no way to really stop that aspect of metagaming.

pve balance: horrible HORRIBLE!!! some groups of enemies are stupidly powerfull while others are utterly easy mode, bosses untill the end boss is sleepingly easy and the endboss is retardedly impossible to kill -_- the difficulty in some instance’s just sky rocket up and down like idiotic.

it seems like they just put no effort into it none at all

Did it ever occur to you that it might just be you?

I’ve yet to find an encounter in PvP or PvE that I couldn’t beat with a little forethought. (or retrospectively after wipes).

WvWvW will be a bit off to begin with. The idea is that winning servers play other winning servers, then it will eventually make matches to a point where it achieves a good balance. (At least that’s as far as I understand it?)

Also, please, please use a browser that spell checks your posts.

Added a system to limit the experience and gold that players can receive from speed-farming dungeons.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pants.8315

Pants.8315

Basic economics.

Players get too much gold, value of gold decreases.

Value of gold decreases, value of gems decreases.

Value of gems decreases, cash shop prices have to be readjusted to match gold value.

OR

Anet finds places where gold is too readily available and reduces rewards from farming it.

Economy stays stable and the whole process listed above doesn’t have to happen.

Of course over the course of the games lifespan golds going to be more readily available anyway, but we’ll ignore that for now.

And again, of course they want you to buy gems from a business perspective, but controlling inflation is a bit more of a concern, especially with the global TP.
