Thanks for the heads up
They have sold over 2 M I L L I O N copies … why on earth do lemmings think they need money already. For those too lazy to do the simple math that is 120 million dollars based on the CHEAPEST version of the game only. I would happily bet they are closer to 1/4 of a billion already and climbing steadily with Christmas approaching.
Do not kid yourself into thinking the dev team makes anywhere near that. WoW brain washed an entire generation into thinking a monthly sub was needed to keep a game alive and making content … box sales pay for that and more. The cash shop is about greed not need. Thank the shareholders for that.
Of that $120,000,000 (ish) how much do you think goes back into on-going development costs, how much is absorbed into the publishing company and is never spent on anything Arena Net are currently working on.
A lot of it will also be re-invested back in to cover the development costs from the original development. Rough example, EA barely broke even with the initial box costs on SWoTOR (Though that cost ridiculously more, it illustrates my point). EA even said prior to launch they needed to sell X amount of copies to just break even, let alone make a profit.
The gem store covers on-going costs after the initial cash influx.
That’s a very nice idea also! Some sort of readable inscription (as found on some statues) or maybe an ‘old book’ next to some of these sites would add a little extra.
Love this kinda thing.
Amazing the amount of people that don’t read it though.
I forget the zone (one of the Charr/Ascalonian maps), but I came across a bunch of players killing off ghosts inside an old tomb. I was there a good 10 minutes looking around and came across a statue with a plaque, saying something about the floor being marked with the imprints of people kneeling over many years.
Of course the first thing I did was /kneel. And low and behold, an event kicked off.
What really amazed me was that out of the 20 or so people running around inside this tomb (near launch) I was the only person who bothered reading it and tried kneeling.
There’s another event spawning reading section in one of the dragon brand area’s which follows a set of riddles that lead you onto another riddle and so on until it spawns an event mob. Again, very few people ever actually bother reading and follow it through it’s entirety.
It’s a shame because some of the best content is uncovered this way.
Wearing a level 3 back slot item, I’m 80 , never had a item like that drop or one on the tp.
Though haven’t checked the past two days.
Thought they screwed up and were just bugged in the loot table, or now thinking just cruel.
They don’t drop.
You will have got one from your story missions around 25-30 odd I believe.
Or
You can get guild backpacks at various levels.
That’s about it pre-80, then at 80 there aren’t many more choices.
no wonder i hate playing in parties or joining guilds.
And all i want to do is simply play some fractals of the mists… -.-
so sad you cant simply solo it, i like soloing games, imo parties and guilds (mostly guilds) only drain the fun out of games.
(i only ever group up with my closest real life friends)
I think maybe perhaps the massively multiplayer genre might not be what your looking for. This games immensely more fun with other people.
If your dying a lot taking your gear off is only going to make it worse.
Common sense! I’d kick you too, sorry. I am by no means elitist, in fact, I’ve been putting off heading to the fractals as I rerolled my main for aesthetics.
Your level 65, upscaled. That doesn’t mean you have level 80 exotic stats, it means your running around with very basic level 80 stats, so your already at a disadvantage. (For example, the Lost Shore’s event at level 18 scaled up to 80 hurt like hell, had to be extremely careful). Taking off your gear removes, precious health and armour, making you even more likely to die, and decimates your damage, making you a dead weight to the group.
Think more! Especially if your going to come on the forum and try and blame the party for your own lack of foresight.
Whilst I missed all of Halloween and only caught the last 2 hours of Lost Shore, I’m pretty sure they don’t “hate” weekend workers.
They have said before they simply do events when they have the highest amount of concurrent players. Which, as much as it’s a pain, makes perfect sense.
I’m a little confused. Are Legendaries getting auto leveled or is the OP wanting them to be auto leveled.
Legendary items will be auto-leveled when Ascended weaponry is added to the game.
“You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power. We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.”
OP is complaining that it is being updated.
Legendaries take such a ridiculously insane investment that it would be unfair to NOT auto-upgrade them.
And no I don’t have any legendaries myself.
I’m with you, and also don’t have a legendary. That amount of time/money investment into the game/gem store would be unfair if it stayed put stat’s wise.
this^^
Agreeing with this too (also no legendary here)
Legendaries was also set up to be the best ever, it is supposed to show extrodinarily much work and investment into the game. If they suddenly were not the best, that would be void.
Exactly, they are meant to be best in slot.
This implies that they are both visually best in slot as well as in line with the best in slot weaponry.
Did the event on my level 20 alt after deciding I’d rather be getting exp whilst doing the event.
Was very happy with my accessory and 20 slot bag, but was retrospectively wishing I had come on my Thief or Guardian (both 80).
But never mind, will bear that in mind next time ^^,
Legendaries take such a ridiculously insane investment that it would be unfair to NOT auto-upgrade them.
And no I don’t have any legendaries myself.
I’m with you, and also don’t have a legendary. That amount of time/money investment into the game/gem store would be unfair if it stayed put stat’s wise.
i would say thief.
you can go to the thief forum right now and see a p/p video where all the guy does is spam 3-3-3-3 and he still does well.
it doesnt get much easier than that.
I have also heard however that thief dies really fast if you are not paying attention.
I do like the medium armor aesthetic best; but I am apprehensive to play a really twitch class when I am already having a hard time keeping up with the pace of the game.
Fritz does not play a thief, guarenteed. he’s the type that sees a ‘Cheese’ PvE/PvP thief video and screams NERF.
If you are a beginner, stay away from thief until you get comfortable with the dodge commands. Thief gameplay is one that’s constantly on the move, about situational awareness, and yes, they have lower survivability than most when it comes to armor.
However, there are some nice skills that help with survivability in PvE. We have a variety of invisibility inducing skills that can be chained together as long as we stay out of combat. (Makes it nice for bypassing some tough, clustered areas)
We also have amny tools for a quick escape when we’re about to be wtfpwned by a big monster. However, using these skills appropriately, managing initiaive, and knowing monster animations is a big part in whether or not you’ll survive.
Once mastered however, thief is a blast to play.
sin is the type who likes to make things sound more dramatic than they really are, guaranteed.
every class has to dodge and stay on the move, it is not unique to the thief class, not even a little bit.
it just happens that thieves can spam 1 button for their damage rotation while everyone else has to use multiple skills for their damage rotation.
everyone uses 1 heal, 3 utilities, and 1 elite.
most classes also need to use 5 attack skills, except thieves who can get by spamming 1 button.
logically this makes the thief the easiest to play.
I can only assume your talking about the dagger dagger condition build. Which relies on the following.
Initiative – You can only pull off 2 and a half in a row until you get the traits to support it. Prior to gaining the traits to support it, your initiative consumption is almost solely used for this, which leaves you spending the rest of the time dodging around.
With traits, you gain initiative for stealing and roll for initiative and extra initiative points, meaning whilst you can perform them fairly regularly, the initial relatively low damage 3 hits aren’t enough to kill most mobs.
Whilst Death Blossom evades during the animation, you must be aware that you don’t land somewhere you don’t want to be during the move (in mid air on a cliff is always bad). Thus timing becomes important, playing the build well vs. tough mobs + groups + other players requires effective management of your initiative whilst avoiding being hit as much as possible as Thief’s are particularly squishy.
Being in this build also requires you to build all your traits and support skills around conditions and regaining initiative, thus you won’t have many (if any/depending on what heal you equip) stealth abilities and or support abilities.
Whilst anybody can stand on a mob and jump backwards and forwards performing Death Blossom, in reality against something challenging it requires a lot of forethought.
Manifesto : “A public declaration of aims…”
Lie: “To lie is to deliver a false statement to another person which the speaking person knows is not the whole truth, intentionally.”
An aim is a target, a goal, not a fact.
The arena net manifesto was delivered in 2011. There is nothing to suggest that Ascended items where in development at this point, so it cannot be a false statement delivered unintentionally.
Arena Net by those definitions didn’t lie to anybody.
They did however pull an about turn on some of the design decisions for the game. Something of this magnitude is not the work of an individual or group of individuals, it would have been a company decision.
Suggesting that somebody should be fired for it is beyond rude and ridiculous. This isn’t the BBC or a bank, we don’t need a scapegoat.
A clear and concise deceleration of intent in regards to the games development would be nice, but they are by no means obliged to tell you what they are planning.
Just no,
Nothing on the cash shop should be more valuable than anything on it now.
Currently everything on it is affordable with a couple of days of grinding gold in game.
If you want to buy the current in-game precursors, you can buy gems and buy them straight from the trade post, this adds convenience to the grind to get a legendary, but doesn’t mean that people without a lot of real life money wouldn’t be able to achieve it with a hefty amount of time investment.
What you are suggesting with regards to “competing” with gold sellers shouldn’t be the way to go. Anet shouldn’t have to compete, they should be working towards eradicating this kind of behavior. Buying gold should be as harshly punished as selling it, so the risk of buying gold and getting caught and banned is high enough that people don’t do it, and push the gold sellers out of the market.
I got the impression they were ‘driven’ to land by the dragon and his minions.
Similarly to the Asura from the Destroyer’s, Koden/Norn in the north from Jormag, etc.
However, I’m not concerned people will be ahead, simply because, if there isn’t a group for me, I will make my own. The wonderful thing about MMO’s is there’s always a few like minded individuals, and there’s always alts.
You don’t understand what lieas ahead, do you?
This has been posted on GW2’s official german forums by the german Community Manager, and thus an ANet representative, and then translated on reddit with the help of german players to ensure translation was faithful to the original:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/139a4j/official_post_ascended_items_on_german_forums/
Ramon Domke (translated from German):They are explicitly not promising that Ascended gear will be the last item tier
and
Ramon Domke (translated from German):New and existing content will be adjusted for the new tier.
When full ascended sets will be in, current dungeons will be too easy so they will be adjusted to match the new gear tier.
You can play with like-minded people as much as you want, but you’ll still be forced to grind unless you want to be cut off a growing portion of new and existing content.
It won’t even be the party cutting you out, it will be the content itself.
Simple as that.
And I’ll absorb that content at my own pace. I won’t be cut off because I will never be the only person who wants to do it, there will always be late comers, alts, other people who take their time to do the content, people willing to go back and do lower level content. (I for one do this)
And I really don’t care if they explicitly say one way or the other if it’s the last tier. It won’t change the pace I absorb the content, I don’t have to be at the cutting edge of gear, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest if X Lego Lass X is stood next to me with a Legendary sword and an ascended back piece whilst I’m still rocking my Exotics.
Would you tip a pizza delivery guy who insulted your mother, whizzed on your lawn, and called you a drugged-out-freeloader before giving you that pizza? The pizza is the most amazing pizza ever. But would you even accept the delivery under that kind of treatment?
That’s an awful analogy. Deviating from the manifesto is much more like a pizza company delivering you a pepperoni pizza instead of a margherita.
Whilst you get more stuff, it’s not what you asked for.
There were no insults thrown around and they certainly didn’t whizz over the lawn.
I re-rolled my full exotic Guardian last week (generally fed up of how she looked), so it’ll be at least another 3 weeks (I have a holiday next week) before I’m 80 and getting towards gear again.
However, I’m not concerned people will be ahead, simply because, if there isn’t a group for me, I will make my own. The wonderful thing about MMO’s is there’s always a few like minded individuals, and there’s always alts.
Personally I feel your pain. I think the daily achievements for both sPvP and PvE should be modified to either be easier to complete or more varied. Honestly, I think it would be more fair to players who really care about completing everything if the “dailies” were changed to “weeklies” so there wasn’t that pressure to log in every day.
Everyone else must lose out on 6 jugs of karma / sets of pvp rewards to suit your inexplicable need to gain achievement points whilst not wanting to play the game?
That’s rather unreasonable.
No.
I just think that they should multiple the requirements by 7, multiple the rewards by 7 and have it reset weekly instead of daily. That way if you couldn’t play on one day, you could catch up the next day.
Or maybe they could change it so that you could only earn the achievement 7 times in one week but it would reset every time you finished it, regardless of the time.
I know my OCD is my own problem, but I think that implementing a system like one of the above could be fun for a lot of people, without negatively impacting the game.
But…I want karma faster :\
Just as well they give Glory and not Karma then isn’t it
Gosh, if you think the remains of the Northern Wall jumping puzzles difficult your in for a real treat as you get further in (Side note;I did it first try but a few of my friends spent a good 30mins – 1hour on that one, I’m a bit of a jumping puzzle junky, having 100% them, was totally gutted I missed the mad kings one
.)
I actually liked the bug ones, involved a little reading on my part, but provided a nice change of pace.
Other than that, all I can suggest is go to another zone, there are plenty to choose from in that bracket.
Link or it didn’t happen, I’ve only seen the one PR announcement bs pretty much saying they’re going to ignore the negative comments and go through with it anyways. It would have been better if they’d said nothing at all instead of trying to forcefeed us their lies.
One of the FoV threads got merged into the patch feedback thread, but Colin J’s post is still there:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Patch-Feedback-merged-1/page/6
And Martin K’s reply on another thread with the same subject:
They have time/money/resource to spend on such a detailed research about FOV, and cannot even once make a non-vague reply to the countless posts on gear treadmill?
Yeah, they’re avoiding the issue, they want to toss us out and hope that players who enjoy the grind will sustain their finances.
I hate to break it to them, but if they read this. The content locusts only really pay when you FORCE them to pay with something like a monthly sub. They would rather spend 100+hrs getting something than spend a dollar to get it in 10 seconds. That is what the content locusts are, and anet is making a huge mistake thinking they will provide more finance than those of us turned away.
The main difference between the FoV and the Ascended gear is that FoV is actually accessible at the moment.
Less you forget, FoV also kicked up a fuss on the forums not too long ago and incited developer response and dialog. It also got looked into and eventually addressed. In fact they originally said it was impossible without breaking the game. However, it underwent a beta period of testing on live servers and eventually got rolled into the game as default. (Looks so much better).
My contending point is that they are probably waiting for it to get into the wild before they address concerns in more depth. This initial uproar is about something that we haven’t even played yet and haven’t fully experimented with the impacts it has on the game when it is opened up over the weekend.
With this patch they have in fact only released 3 slots worth of items, and the potential impact is probably being closely monitored. The doom bringers in this thread will tell you this spells out that they intend to release more full tiers of gear in the future, despite them saying several times that isn’t their intent.
Going by the data mined legendary stats from before this patch went live, they did already have higher stats than the Exotic weapons, which could suggest that they fully intended this gear to be in the game at some point after launch, and thus it isn’t the start of some endless repeating process of adding higher tiers of gear, but a way of spreading out content prolonged throughout their continual development, (including the addition of the Ascended items within WvWvW and general PvE (be that crafting, karma or otherwise (insanely difficult jumping puzzle please <3).
There is quiet rightly a lot they haven’t said to the community, but as opposed to it being done in some negative ignoring way, they are in fact waiting until their content is actually in our hands and being played through, before responding to the largely negative responses to it’s announcement. After all, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.
Whilst there has been a lot of negative comments about being ‘lied’ to about the concept of gear grinding, it’s apparent that we have yet to see the full spectrum of what A.Net plans in regards to progression and procurement of the Ascended gear in future content updates. A manifesto is by definition, a statement of intent, and a publicly delivered set of ideas and future visions.
It has been stated that they current intent is to give us an expansion packs worth of content through monthly (?) installments of content, an expansion should, if delivered correctly offer multiple paths towards obtaining what they set out as the ‘end-game’ of progression.
As we have only seen the very first part of this content, I am quiet happy to give them then benefit of the doubt until I have seen more of their intended additions to ‘progression’ in future updates, before I get all up in arms about having to run a dungeon as my only option at end game.

Wait…
So you don’t like PvP and you don’t play PvP, yet you have to do a PvP daily, that awards PvP rewards, because you want to complete a repeatable achievement that you can never really “complete”.
Am I missing something? This is entirely your problem. I don’t do a great deal of PvP myself, but I welcome this kind of content.
What about the people that do sPvP exclusively, and never touch the PvE content and thus never completed the daily / monthly quests.
If you don’t like it, don’t do it, if you can’t help yourself doing it, I think the underlying problem is yourself and not the content.
Ask yourself… can they stop?
The Ascendance gear is designed to fill the huge gap between how long it takes to get exotics and how long it takes to get Legendary gear (without spending some ludicrous amount of money on gems). With that in mind, again I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to stop.
I dont do pvp.
I hate it with a vengeance, probably mostly due to my system not being up to speed but more likely that i just dont like it.
I don’t play games in a compatitive way, i play them as a hobby. Too bad that this game, which i thoroughly enjoy as a pve char, makes me miss out on some achievements, because i dont do pvp.
I’m confused. Why do you hate on this new pvp daily so much? Because you won’t be able to get some achievement points? Last time I checked, achievement points weren’t used for anything at all.
I’m just really confused as to why this bothers you so much…Of course the game has to have some PvP achievements, for those people who play PvP. Why is this something to lament?
QFT.
There’s a PvE Daily and Monthly. I see no reason why PvP players should be excluded.
I for one was happy to see some additions to the PvP side of things.
None, but not because I’m disillusioned about the new patch.
All my friends who I play games with regularly already own the game, and those that have left, left because after getting exotics and the skins they wanted, fairly easily and on more than one character, they went back to LoL.
Me and the few people I still play with generally don’t mind the patch as it really won’t have any major influence over how we play the game anyway.
If I did have a friend looking for something new to play on the other hand I would recommend the game whole heartily. Why would I deny somebody a really great experience because of a couple of items of gear at end game designed to please people who have done everything else.
I have no problem with the Ascended gear, because like everything else in the game, if I have no interest in it, I won’t do it, it doesn’t take away any kind of enjoyment. For example I don’t run around Orr farming every day because I find it dull, I may not have as much karma or gold as some people, but it’s entirely my choice. Which is what it all boils down to in the end.
I have to laugh at the people that claim to know how long it will take to earn the tokens for the ascended equipment. It’s pretty likely the number of tokens you get scales with the difficulty which kinda throws all those ‘calculations’ out the window…
Lol so 60 hours per piece then?
It can also drop from chests/bosses etc.
“That’s one of the beauties of the Fractals: even if you can’t complete more than one or two, you’ll still get some loot. And the Ascended gear has a chance to drop in each one, not just the spoiler:edit boss that comes after the completion of six Fractals.”
So the calculations based on tokens are not the only way to get gear.

Please read this before anyone continues their rampant speculation
http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/basics/complete-guide-fractals-mists#.UKT2QkeP4Po.reddit
This will explain the dungeon in full. You get 5 relics per Fractal, 3 fractals before an increase in difficulty. Relics are used to purchase your gear, so it things look alot less random than people thought.
So assuming that a fractal takes, in the best case, 15 minutes to complete as they wrote:
Those items cost 1.350 relics.
15 min = 5 relics
1.350 / 5 = 270 (Fractals)
270 * 15 (minutes) = 4050 minutes = 67.5 hours
So 67.5 hours of nonstop fractals for one item.
We have 12 equipment slots NOT including weapons.
810 hours to get items for all 12 slots.
Let’s assume that one day is defined as 12 hours.
And we’re back to 67.5. That is 67.5 days of non-stop dungeons to get all of your equipment this way.
Truly, there’s no grinding in GW2.So horribly disappointing. Like being offerec a huge plate of warm cookies (the patch) with a huge, nasty long hair (ascended gear) lying right in the middle of it.
Note: Lying IS the word I meant to use even though laying is grammatically correct.. it just seemed so right in this case.
I would remove the hair, and eat the cookies.
I still have a faint sliver of hope ANet does that with Lost Shores.
From mmorpg.com playtest “That’s one of the beauties of the Fractals: even if you can’t complete more than one or two, you’ll still get some loot. And the Ascended gear has a chance to drop in each one, not just the Jade Maw boss that comes after the completion of six Fractals.”
So no, it’s not as grindy and harsh at that suggests.
Can we have an official answhere?I think that at this points guys, the game don’t come back to their phylosophy. Why you are here only to delete post like mine before and don’t give us a real answhere?
Read this http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/basics/complete-guide-fractals-mists#.UKT2QkeP4Po.reddit
Full breakdown in new mechanics
I don’t need a guide to new dungeon, i’m an 6 years old player of Gw1, following gw2 whit every blog post, interview etc, and no one devs of arenanet said that they will introduce this time of progression whit gear.In gw1 you don’t need to to dungeon for equip against a condition whit some better gear than the outhers dungeons. We are more people here against this kitten meccanics, you think that we are all stupid and we can’t learn and read somethings about this?
I think perhaps you do need to read it, it’s actually quiet interesting.
Also, please spell check, punctuate, and format your posts. Your post reflects your statement “i’m an 6 years old player”…
Edit:Typo.

Actually the only thing that bugs me about the Day / Night cycle is how it’s isn’t consistant across all servers and zones. Travelling from Overflow to the regular server usually is a jarring shift from day to night and I’m pretty sure this happens when you zone too.
Yup all zones have independent day/night (occasionally weather) cycles. Can create some odd effects traveling between zones.
can someone explain me, why should i even try crafting exotic armor if i would have to grind for ascended one?
The same reason you would grind for greens before you get exotic in my eyes.
The fact that the armour will last you at the very least a month, if not 2 or 3 or more before ascended gear is introduced to replace a whole set…
I’ve been farming for 2-3 months now to get some T3 and the correct exotic set. I had already achieved one OK exotic set and one MF and now I’m nearly to the point I could get one piece of the T3 set, the most expensive one.
I don’t need a stupid armor that lasts me a month or two only and costs me as much as one T3 part. I need that money for the later. And for the legendaries after. And the set swaps for different builds.
T3 is and always has been purely cosmetic, why does it matter? You can apply it to your gear as and when you replace it.
Your stat specific Exotics will aid you in clearing new content to get the replacement parts when they are released, which is on an entirely unspecified time scale.
If your planning on doing a Legendary grind, none of these changes affect you, just carry on, it will scale anyway?
can someone explain me, why should i even try crafting exotic armor if i would have to grind for ascended one?
The same reason you would grind for greens before you get exotic in my eyes.
The fact that the armour will last you at the very least a month, if not 2 or 3 or more before ascended gear is introduced to replace a whole set…
My new alt hasn’t had a single one drop yet, admittedly only level 15, but it’s the first time I haven’t seen one drop whilst clearing the start zone.
One a side not, did they adjust the BL chest drop rates? I currently have 2 keys and no chests on the same character. I usually get the complete opposite and have a ton of chests and no keys.
Why aNet?! Why would you introduce grinding in game that was promoted as NO GRINDING game. You promoted that if i don’t like dungeons, i wouldn’t have to play them. Now if i want to have top gear, i have to do them unconditionaly. Continuously. Hope that you would listen community and stop this madness before it ruins the game.
They’ve already stated there will be other ways to gain the new gear (not necessarily immediately mind you, though the new back slots are crafted from the get go). You won’t have to set foot in a dungeon if you don’t want to.
It’s a gear step. A treadmill implies it’s continuous. No where have they stated they will be adding anything beyond Ascended gear. In fact they explicitly said they were not intending to keep adding better tiers of gear.
To repeat what others have been saying, please quote where did ANet says no more new tiers?
Until then, we can only stay pessimistic since the balls are in their court, not ours.
“We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.”
He is simply acknowledging that the games been out 3 months and they’ve added a new set to give people something extra to work towards.
He is also explicitly saying that they won’t continue to add sets.
You can read into the sentence at discover any hidden meanings you like, but taken at face value, it simply says they don’t intend to continue adding more tiers.
Maybe I’m just optimistic, who knows, time will tell, and your more than welcome to keep my posts in reserve and say “I told you so” if in 4 months they add another tier.
Until that point I won’t be reading between the lines to uncover apparent hidden truths behind a message.
The last paragraph is relevant to the “problem” in that this game is new and the direction in which is headed isn’t set in stone. No one really wants to chase after stats every three months. Anet has stated that a treadmill is not their intention. We won’t know the difference until they actually do.
While it’s fine to protest the periodic addition of gear tiers to the game, it’s not acceptable to refuse an update that may or may not set a precedent for future updates. We simply do not have enough information to judge Anet one way or another at this point, and proof by intimidation is not proof at all.
They were advertising a cherry flavoured bar with no peanut content.
But after we ordered our cherry bars, what we end up getting are peanut bars. Some people really can’t take peanuts, you know. And in some countries / areas what they’ve done is not only of doubtful moral quality, it’s illegal.Yes they said the treadmill is not their intention, at the same time saying they will, with time, introduce more powerful items, just not every three months. Maybe every four or six. So yeah, they’ve already set a precedence for future gear updates.
They might want to name it whatever they want but it doesn’t change a single thing. No they haven’t.
not ever three months…
How long has Guild Wars 2 been out…3 months!
Now look back at the sentence. They are saying, yes the game has been out 3 months and we are adding a new tier of gear to bridge a gap we left in original release, that doesn’t mean in another 3 months or more we aren’t going to be adding new tiers of gear.
They are effectively acknowledging that the game’s been out three months, but they aren’t setting a precedent by adding this set now. It’s a one time only deal.
It doesn’t say that. It leaves them room to change their mind either way. Ascended gear or requiring Ascended with the upgrades for new content is gear treadmill.
It’s a gear step. A treadmill implies it’s continuous. No where have they stated they will be adding anything beyond Ascended gear. In fact they explicitly said they were not intending to keep adding better tiers of gear.
There is no gap.
Exotics and Legendary’s have the exact same stat values, the only difference is a visual one, Legendary’s have extra fancy skins that is all and it was great like that.
The gap in the investment required to acquire said items, time, resources etc. Currently Exotic items require a fairly small investment, where as Legendary items require a monumental investment.
Ascended items are presumably intended to fill the investment gap between the two. i.e. they take a while longer to get than exotics, but not as long as Legendary items.
“Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time”
You’ll be able to get them in WvWvW eventually. Meaning you’ll never have to leave your castles, to get the ascended gear.
“We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.”
The 3 months is clearly a reference to the fact that the games been out 3 months, not some time scale for them releasing new tiers. Ascended gear is intended to be a one time only stat increase, that, if released at the current pace won’t even be a complete set in 3 months time. They aren’t introducing a gear treadmill.
“Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two.”
In other words, Exotics are easy to obtain, Legendaries aren’t. Ascended will be more difficult to obtain than Exotics, but not as hard as Legendary items, thus providing less of a jump in time consumption required to get said items.
I think its an awesome idea, Gear upgrade really motivates players to keep playing to achieve a better equipment, and besides we’ll have more end-game content to focus in.
i hope every BIG patch, they introduce new gear quality aswell as Max Level increased and new skills. For QQ’ers : – Remenber Legendary weapons are stronger than Exotics, So stop QQ.
Did any of you guys read this? Wow, just wow.. And these are the type of people Anet wants to cater. Punk guy, Legendaries are not stronger than Exotics. Go back to your panda please
Actually, the Legendary weapons do have more damage/stats on them:
Legendary >> http://www.gw2db.com/items/63469-twilight << 1011-1117, +182 Power, +130 Toughness, +130 Vitality
Exotic >> http://www.gw2db.com/items/48101-invaders-greatsword << 995-1100, +179 Power, +128 Toughness, + 128 Vitality.
Comparing Twilight to the WvWvW Exotic GS: That’s +16 -17 to damage range, + 3 power, +2 Toughness and + 3 Vitality. Which is actually about the same stats creep we’re seeing in the Ascended items.
Taking that into account, if Anet introduce legendary items for every slot, then realistically Ascended items won’t have had any stats creep at all, they will just match the Legendary stats creep that’s already a feature of the game.
Nope.

Indeed. My fault, removed the original post as it’s misleading. Though, interesting point, if it is from an earlier build, was this stats increase already there?

Legendaries aren’t more powerful than Exotics at the moment. That information is wrong.
Further research does in fact show I’m wrong, my bad, shouldn’t trust gw2db, will edit my post out.

Edit: Wrong Information. Removed.

Because your Exotic gears going to last at least 2 if not 4+ months before it’s replaced.
Based on current content patches, as that’s all we have to go on.
November will be lost shores, and will introduce a new area, dungeon and 2 rings and a back pack.
December will be Wintersday, and will likely involve content and an event circling around that, so it’s less likely we’ll have more Ascendance gear added.
So realistically we’re looking at January for the next lot of Ascendance pieces, which if they follow Novembers trend could only be another 3 slots of equipment.
Claiming there’s no point in getting exotics is naive to say the least.
…
A broken hearted ex-fan.I love that your guild is Spirit of Faith, and your tag is HOPE, yet you are supposedly abandoning a game based on an update and content you haven’t even played yet.
Even after Chris came in here and said Ascended was the last tier that will be added for mechanical reasons and to avoid it being a gear grind they are rolling it out a few pieces at a time so even casual players can get it at a comfortable pace rather than farming it out. There will not be another tier added. Done. We got our clarification.
If people have forgotten what a tread-mill is, it’s a thing you run on forever and never get anywhere. A new intermediate type of gear that is introduced piece by piece to mitigate grind/farm while being introduced does not a treadmill make.
But he did not say “there will not be another tier”, he said “we don’t plan to add a new tier every 3 months”.
There is a huge difference there. If they planned to never add another tier, why don’t they just pop in and SAY THAT.
If however, they are adding this tier so that people have something to do… what happens once the tier is fully released? Well, as long as it is more than 3 months down the road they will just add a new one.
Vertical and Horizontal progression systems are mutually exclusive. You can segregate them if you want, but they can’t be both used for the same content. It’s either one way or the other.
No need to get hung up on the 3 months part, it was just a reference to the fact that the games been out 3 months.
Yes please. A welcome diversion.
What is clear from reading through a lot of these posts is there are indeed two camps.
GW1 veterans and bored of Pandas WoW veterans.
Shamefully, Anet are catering to the later
I really don’t think the MMO market can be so clearly defined. It isn’t that black and white, you can’t segregate your player base into 2 categories and aim to please one of them, and I really don’t think ANet have, there’s plenty more content in this patch than just a couple of rings and a back slot.
I’ve calmed down a bit since spending all day monitoring this thread yesterday, having been vehemently against this new tier. Mr. Whiteside’s post has a self-contradicting tone at first glance, but I’m beginning to understand where they are coming from with this decision.
ArenaNet made a mistake in balancing the tiers that are already in the game. They made exotics far too easy to obtain in relation to legendary weapons. Both items are equal in power but nowhere near equal in time, effort, and resources to acquire. There is virtually no prestige at all to exotic armor yet a ton of prestige in legendary weapons. When they eventually release legendary armor, it would have been the same case. There is a very extreme gap right now.
What they want to do, is make Ascendant gear be what Exotic gear was supposed to be. Ascended will take longer to acquire than Exotic, the way that Exotic was supposed to take longer to acquire than Rare gear. However, it still won’t take as long to acquire as legendary armor and weapons, which will be eventually scaled up to Ascended level once Ascended weapons are introduced.
Of course, Ascended has to be better than Exotic because Exotic is better than Rare and Rare is better than Masterwork, and so on. We have to think of Ascended as being the new Exotic because ArenaNet simply failed to make Exotic gear live up to its name.
Many players want to work towards something but don’t necessarily want to take the big plunge from Exotic to Legendary status. This new tier will give us all something to work towards over time. When all the Ascended gear is finally in the game, we’ll look back and feel a sense of accomplishment that many of us didnt feel with Exotics and perhaps then, more of us will start working towards Legendary gear.
I know it’s all scarey and it really wants to feel like ArenaNet is turning their backs on us, but take an objective step back and breathe. All they’re trying to do is fix their initial mistake and make the last tier of gear before Legendary take a bit more time to obtain. It wouldn’t seem nearly as scarey if all this were in place at launch.
I won’t get into the Agony mechanic and the resistance gear they’re adding. I personally think that is a stupid, boring, lazy, outdated, and historically unsuccessful mechanic. It is far from eloquent and I hope they reconsider. But in regards to the new tier, I see it as a necessary fix to a system they didnt quite get right from launch.
I think now I can relax and log back into the game and give them a chance. I’m definitely going to be extremely hesitant to spend another dime in the gem store in the immediate future because ANet has handled this entire debacle very, very poorly. Sometimes the community just needs straight-forward explanations instead of convoluted public relations spins and we didn’t get that here, which only added fuel to the fire. But I understand why they’re doing what they’re doing; I just wish they got it right from the start and didn’t have to do this. Let’s hope the road forward is less rocky than it is today.
I hope more people read this, because it makes perfect sense, it’s logical, calm, eloquent and use the information we’ve been given wisely. Thanks, made me think of other points I missed when considering my own posts.
A treadmill implies it’ll keep going. If you read the blog post, they say that they intended to add one set. Ascended gear. One set = a step, not a treadmill.
They also stated that the harder to obtain “rarer” ascended items will have added +Agony residence. So apart from the original items (which have also been stated to be attainable outside of the dungeon in the future), there is no need to keep repeating the content to get better ascended items unless you want to.
Completely optional; once the full compliment of Ascended items have been added to the game, PvE and WvWvW, then unless you want extra +agony resistance, which is only useful in that one dungeon, you never have to set foot in dungeons.
It’s one extra set, that contains a slot that has the potential to add repeatable dungeon content for those that want to improve their +agony resistance and infusions, whilst not alienating those that don’t want anything more than a basic set of ascended gear but have no intention of running a dungeon, because if your not running the dungeon then the gated agony additions are entirely irrelevant.
They clearly stated that their goal is to create an extra level of progression between Exotics and Legendary items. Not keep creating better and better tiers. The ascended items contain a slot that is only useful in a repeatable scaling dungeon, giving repeatable content for those that enjoy that. The post said it will be obtainable in other ways, meaning you never have to set foot in that dungeon once extra avenues are introduced to get the gear.
It is purely horizontal and actually quiet clever. Introducing a set of gear with a slot that allows entirely optional extra content if people want it.
Having said all of that. I still cannot work out why it has a stat increase
Actually, i’m pretty confident it won’t be the end of gear treadmill. Why becuase Arenanet have introduced a gear treadmill in all but in name.
So ok, let’s say I get a nice lot of Agony protected gear. 6 months down the line we get a new monster condition called say Ouch. This now means I will have to grind an entirely new set of anti-ouch armor just to get through any gear checks. A few months after that, we are told of brand new exciting creatures who now inflict a new monster condition called Wobbly Knee. To do this I need to grind….. you get the picture
For sure the basic stats can be the same level, but the gear grind has moved to the buffs needed to progress in the content.
Ok, let’s say for example there are no more new tiers added. The basic stats stay the same for the next 5 years.
BUT we now have a new stat to add into the equation, it’s called infusion insignia. Now, reading the blog post we are told “Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them.”
We are also told that more content of this nature is being planned. “As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game.”
Lipstick on pig
Who says you can’t swap and change infusions freely? 6 months down the line, all you need to carry around is a set of infusions for a different dungeon. Infusions could also stack and only take up one slot.
You just don’t have enough information to make baseless jumps in logic.
You say soon… they do one content update a month, not all of them are going to be big ones like the November update. December for example is likely to be most around Wintersday.
So in this patch they are giving us rings and back slots. Next patch might not be till January and only introduce other jewelry slots. It could be a full 4+ months before you see a full set of gear.
Your totally over reacting.
Of course my conclusions are drawn from the same small section of information as yours, but mine have some logic and reasoning applied to them.
