Problem with the GW2 setup:

We can run a DPS build with a focus, we have 4 focus points
1 heal
2 support
3 CC
4 conditions

Why are(n’t) these used:
1 heal well not really popular, dedicated hgealers are non functional due to large range AOE heals from ele (soothingh mists) or guardian(virtue of resolve) self regens, (guard, ele": see before, warrior: healing signet, thief signet of malice? regen on stealth, necro: DS…, regen in DS , vampiric traits, health on kill, ranger signet of the wild (if I remember correct) and so on.
In case there is 1 dedicated healer groups lose 5-10% DPS but gain max health for the duration of the partyu, unless facing a very hard hitting enemy.

2 support is used, mostly in the case of blinds, chills, weakness, aegis, regen, stealth, quickness, swiftness, might and fury, when played well it makes an healer obsolete.

3 CC’s DO NOT WORK AGAINST BOSSES.

4 conditions still face the condi cap, after 3 years. rendering condi’s useless when stacks are reached. 1 mesmer and 1 other coindition userf can run in 1 party, BUT their DPS through DOT is abysmal.

In the end leaving us DMG/Support and DMG builds. DMG builds are shunned. as DMG without group support makes you no benefit for the team. this is what rangers and necro’s frequently hear…. Necro’s can provide chills, CC’s boon removal, blinds targetable healing, vulnerability regen and protection, but most do not care.
Rangers provide some group buffing through vulnerability, long range pulls and their pet (choose your buff) as well as a water field with heals and regen and condiremoval

“Massive MULTIplayer Online” — you could also turn that argument around and say “MASSIVE multiplayer” and claim dungeons need to scale up to be run with dozens of players.

I am missing 8 and 12 man dungeons, I’d even like 20 man dungeons tbh.

“It’s the death of PvE” — I disagree. Some paths are already soloable. Yet GW2 still lives.

I find the fact there are soloable paths already a reason to say: " Just leave it the way it is."

And I rather (try to) solo the dungeon than buy it. Even if it is less effective.

Good for you, I respect the fact you do so, but please also respect the reason I play the game, with others, If you make everything soloable , this will be a Massive Soloplayer Online.

And my request is not only about soloing. I’d also like the mechanics to scale down, so that groups with 2-4 can theoretically complete all dungeons.

I already stated I would love to see this, making some dungeons accesible for 2-4 man groups as long as: MECHANICS ALLOW IT

Also, I do NOT want the dungeons to scale down in a way, that makes solo running a good or – worse – ideal option. Do not scale down the number of mobs you need to kill. Do not scale down their HP, level or rank. Neither trash mobs nor boss encounters. I’d just like to see the blockers gone that make it theoretically impossible to solo the dungeon. It SHOULD be hard to do it. It SHOULD ALWAYS be the better option to run with friends.

If you would scale down bosses to 1 player all people who now solo Lupi will laught at lupi, and dance on his corpse time and time again., The fact people already do solo or 2-,3-,4-(wo)man runs should show the fact most dungeons are very easily conquered.

Also, I have a nice guild. I really like them. But it’s not always easy to recruit a group of guild mates to run a (specific) dungeon. Lacking a fifth player? So no CoF P1 for us today.

1 PUG in the team shouldn’t matter too much, and taking COF 1 as an example shows the lack of faith you have in pugs. You frown upon LFG requests, but want the same, you just do not seem to want to take the step. l80 Zerk, l80 Meta,l80 Exp(ert), l80 speedrun?
And there are quite a lot of players who do know speedruns, or fast runs, and there are quite a few who know what to do, and how to do it in very little time. I personally renst PING and xk AP but that’s my way of playing. I been there too often…

And I don’t like LFG tool groups. If I look into it and see “selling”, “exp only”, “ping equip” and so on I just close the window again. Especially for dungons, I’m not famililar with.

Selling isn’t important ignore them, just run your own: L80 exp, dance when enter or kick? Eternity mandatory? If it’s not green it isn’t mean?

I have 17k+ AP done all dungeons a lot, though I seldom run CM HotW and Arah, I have dungeon gear, dungeon food, and know my builds and tactics. I only PUG, if I’d run with guild members I’d run with ppl with WvW commander builds and shout heal; warriors….

“It would severely limit the devs” — not necessarily. They don’t need to plan to make it easily soloable. They would just need to find a way to trigger certain events with less than 5 players.

Do not alter paths. If you change mechanics you destroy the dungeon as is. nor will solo-ers and groups work together… as different meta’s will spawn… this will cause conflicts

Another edit:
Some mechanics may need a slight rework for soloing. The flame domes (CoF P1) could e.g. work so that you need to stay 30 seconds below one and then the door opens for 30 seconds. Or something like that.

I’d be against changing mechanics. This to retain the mechanics of a path, I want to see the same mechanics for solo, 2, 3 , 4 ,5 ppl in any case.

I do not mind the scalability in paths like arah with the tarelemental, or cof p1, having a dc or a leaver it is probably one of the more frustrating experiences, but the mechanics should stay intact, 12 acolytes also with 3 players, 3 balls with 3 players and 2 brazier with 3 players, 3 with 4 and 4 with 5 players.

I do not want to be able to run cof 1 alone, just running in and kill 12 acolytes, then running 1 stone then running into the brazier room ingnoring the spawns ust killing the lock… It will destroy the path mechanics and therefore the dungeon… It will gut the dungeon leaving only the exterior/interior the same a dungeon path without any challenge or mechanic.

It’s my opinion

There are quite a few soloable dungeonpaths anyways. When seeing the buyable paths quite a few are workable. and just LFG and PUG-ing isn’t that bad. at lease not during weekdays. Or join a (new) dungeon guild.

healing can be made very powerfull on certain classes, mostly elementalist atm.

they can heal each auto on water for 1000+ hp, not counting soothing mist (the aoe heal effect when in water) and skill 3 or 5 with blasts effectively healing for 3500 every 3 seconds.

Symbol mace guard with correct traits will heal like mad… both in clerics or in zealots armor

necro can do quite reasonable healing as well, with transfusion and mark of blood on dodge, and well of blood with dwayna’s runes…. = perma regen uptime, 6k heal on transfusion well of blood is targettable heal, and the necro can selfsustain with vampiric. The wells can gve protection as well..

runes of the monk casn be very powerfull combines with aquatic benvolence and delicious riceballs on ele, guard will have its own new benevolence trait, runes of the monk and delicious riceballs

these build will support people who run full zerk,while retaining damage, and making sure the zerks retain 100% uptime. loss for party DPS is less then 6%. with might and fury even less.,. 6% will mean 1 second added for every 15 seconds in fight if your fight lasts 3 minutes it will now last 3 minutes and 12 seconds just so you see the extant of the damage. if you need to res ppl during the fight you’ll lose comparable time due to 1 or 2 ppl dropping dps as well as the downed losing 60% for a couple of seconds…if it takes 4 seconds to res with 2 ppl you will have the same results and the fight will last evenly long in both cases , but with the healing ppl will have higher average health at all times.

If you need to communicate you are already one step down the ladder.

I ran AC a few days ago, met a group and thought well standard group, we all had expereince which showed, 1st spider was dead before the last moved in, all rush to the 3 npc’s static is procced and blasted… we came at spider, everything synergized. No wasted skills, gargoyle clear 3 heads down move to spiderspawn, both ele’s proc fire cast MS on head and spawn point, spider spawns, gets immo-ed, wallOR is put down instantly all 5 move into wallOR, and spider dies in seconds, 0 damage, 1 person is poisoned, we walk on and I catch a glimpse of the ranger in party cleaning (HS & warhorn blast) him outside the area where we are already proccing fire for the next few gravelings.. 20 seconds later we are at kohler.

Kohler dies very fast in a hail of MS’s Firestorms and sandstorm with 4 icebows…, blast static run to room ppl split up before anything is said, 1 ele left 1 right, 1st 4 mounds die due to MS’s and the last 4 due to Icebow which just came from recharge. 1 moves up, others WP, and wait, 5th returns, static blast, to room, when hodgingsarrives he gets speed buufed into position, 1 person runs the pieces, hidgins is staticked and blaster and jogs to the other side…we run to tunnels, statics, blasts, run through statics stone walls, guard staff walls stabilities, ranger took bear to remove cripples. warrior on warhorn. We enter the final room , run in place fire stack might and fury and kill. done. next…. Path one from a lazy ele.

from these 5 ppl : 3 ran superior gost slaying util (ele (staff), ele(staff), guard (S/F&GS), 2 used sharps (warrior (banner/empower allies (6/4/0/4)) DPS)/ranger( spotter, no ghost, dunno build)), all used truffle steak all used dedicated main ghostslaying/night weapons, and offset was mostly night/force.

It was very fast.

I had paths not finish.. no end of path bonus, proably due to the boss being killed before the NPC’s arrived (path 3 AC tends to do this -a lot- if you just run in and kill rumblus….) it happens.

And m ost will have had most pieces zerk, but I doubt it was 100% zerk. I even doubt it was 100% zerk/sin

I do not know fractals, I was 39 before , now I do not care for anything above 35 it seems, I’m still only 35…

I did most dungeons and I do not like CM,

But yes most ppl prefer zerk. I do not care about zerk too much. I run all kinds of builds mostly with ppl I know… I run full sinister (= condition) in parties with mesmer ele(’s) and guards. mostly for fun, or zealots. Zealot necro, zealot guard, zealot ele…

I play also zerk, I’ve seen zerk. been there done that. Ran speedruns, not zerk -meta- but speedruns.

People shouting you must have zerk, then we enter dungeons, no food and util… okay that’s 10 % dmg waste, and 10% defence wasted… hey guy is using stacking sigil.,.. again 5% waste, hey seems lightning proc, or fire blast? now you done it, for those few things… + 35% dmg you could have had, you want two crit proccing sigils? Oh you do use food, nice +70 power, +30% magic find, very helpfull… you are such a team player…

Yes go zerk … and I on my zealot guard with zerk trinkets will outdamage you. and you’ll never know…

Most ppl do not know, most zerk parties are just a figment of imaginations…

The few which are good are the few expert speedrunners: they rock, with 5 ppl using decent food… you will know you run 6.67+ ppl instead of 5. you’ll know cause you will take -NO DAMAGE-. All just running scholar… all wannabees running strength, have fun. + 5% when might is nice, +10% with full stacks?

Speedruns require you to think and to switch setups, and weapons, to fit the engagement, not take a build and mindlessly spam your sequence and eat dmg, hoping to kill your enemy. You should not take any damage. getting hit on a ele costs 2 times a 10% buff… due to damage… that’s a waste of time. If 1 or 2 characters brings a reflect , or the ele’s use swirling winds or take time to cast sandstorm you do not have damage… and your damage will stay up. yes you lose a couple of seconds but you do not take damage, you do not need to res, no need to respawn no need to worry.

But they tend to be scarce… very scarce.

And often the speedrunners run their personal flavour. Mostly zerk, but personalized…

Except maybe you do NEED your crafting skills at 500… to make the armor and weapons in the end…

You can buy almost anything in thei game, I saw ppl with 300 AP with a legendary on a lvl 47….

Just consider why some things must be gated.

If you want you can do any and all content in green gear up to fractal lvl 9, then it starts getting a problem, only in fractals…

If you want to run Bl’s or EotM in greens be my guest. if you stay alive long enough to build decent stacks: I ’d say: good gaming.

PP PLS:

In wvw ppl below 230 levels and above are already in a way different level, as are pugs without builds and food, compared to the silver, gold and platinum fighters…

Even the ascneded armor will not help you to compete. As the experience ppl will get 2500 Hp 100 power and condition dmage wich last even through downs, and ppl using wvw infusions will always have a point up over those also using thier armors for Fractals and so on.

Be aware Ascended armor does give you 5%-7% more armor , depending if you have toughness in your build and could give you 5-10.5% more DPS if you have a zerk armor…

then again the 2 buffs added and food added and bloodlust added and stacking sigils added will make this rather minor, When fully buffed I run 600-700+ more power (without banners or might) then base. (100 power/ 100 condi dmg from 1st buff), 30, 50 or 70 from bloodlust, 250 from stacking sigil, 100 power from food (seldomly run def food tbh. ) ~150-170 power from sharps.
In combat I gain another 600 power and 600 condition dmg from might making me 1200 power more powerfull in combat compared to entering…

Also 30, 50, 70 vitality, healing power, condition dmg, toughness and so on should be considered.

The 17 slots provided for ascneded gear are quite underwhelming … and when considering all numbers the 5% from armor, and the 5% from weapon are the only gain, which is based on a long term investment.

You can make it, some people have it. I have 5 characters with 1 or more pieces of ascended armor (1 with 2 full sets, 1 with 1 full set, 2 with chest and legs and 1 with only chest. of those 5 character only 2 have a set dedicated to WvW on the other 5 charatcer I only use ascneded trinkets and weapons., mostly as I cannot afford the 275-575 gold for each character. And food and utility will far outweigh the benefits… of an armor….

I have my character in exotic armor instantly when achieving 80. having no long term goal will make your reasons to play way smaller. nobody cares for legendaries anymore, as they are more common then all other exotic skins. leaving you nothing to achieve anymore other then playing the game working to reach the platinum or mithril levels of some other players…

You will not be comparable to those players until you are quite a bit in your gold levels… so ~lvl 1400 or so. even when wearing ascneded armor. as they are more versatile, carry more supplies, use ’m faster, can jump on any siege with maximium effects and are inrically familiar with all possible nooks and crannies of the maps…

I know ppl with 7 or 8 k AP who played since headstart. and have ugly characters because they only care about WvW, they only play for WvW, not for looks, skins, points but just know zergs, roaming, and all other facets, I know ppl who played wvw for a long time and did some PvP to return quite dissapointed cause none of the sharks, phoenixes and dragons could hold their own. while they were only bunnies.

It is a gaming mode in its own. fighting with 30 guildies wiping 50 or 60 man blobs asks for coordination and skill, not just armors.

And the fact ppl think they cannot ever aquire ascneded, well just start.
You will make 1 piece and a week later the second, maybe 1 or 2 weeks later the 3rd and in 2 months give or take 2 weeks you’ll have your armor. Just make sure you think about the stats, wrong stats are nioce but unusable for 300+ gold…

Finally, when playing PvE it really doesn’t matter if you run exotic or ascneded except in lvl 39+ fractals. and even there it is not 100% neccesary. leaving the unjustice of ascneded very very much a personal opinion. in 2 or 3 months you will have your own armor and you’ll compare and find it give you some change, but if you are going to be in problems the differences between exotic and ascneded will not save you…

Your vastly over estimating the boost you get from ascended armor the armor bonus is 4.9-5.1%(depending on armor class) for the full set and if you wearing all zerk the dps bonus would be about 1.5%.

I cannot see ascneded as gear without trinkets or weapons.

If people are raging about ascended armor to go, you should remove ascended as a tier, not just the armor. Understand this.

Else you’ll alow 5% dmage increase from weapons but no corresponding armor increase.

And I am -against- removing ascneded as a tier and I am -against- removing the timegate.
As removing the timegate would allow any person with no experience just to hop in ascneded armor by just paying money instead of playing the game.
Once again creating the porblem of no mat sink / time sink for your characters and again removing a sense of progression and accomplishment.

Thank you for your very usefull comment, staying so well on topic.

And do understand ppl playing WvW ALSO play PvP, and it is not structured. It isn’t fair: it is WvW. If you take a zerg and wipe all guild groups they need to rebuild stacks, until then they are way less effective. Realize this…

Also realize this is how WvW is played, and when fighting 30 vs 40 while the 40 have stacks and you do not: you are showing greater skill then those in PvP, IMO.

Game Update Notes – November 15, 2012

New Rarity Type: Ascended

Ascended rarity falls between Exotics and Legendaries on the rarity spectrum.
Ascended items have higher stats than Exotics and come with slots for the new upgrade type, Infusions.
Ascended rings and back slot items have been added to the game.

New Upgrade Type: Infusion

Infusions are a new type of upgrade component that can only be slotted into a matching Infusion slot.
Added 12 new Infusions of the offensive, defensive, and omni types to the game.
Create Infusions through the Mystic Forge using new crafting materials.


Game Update Notes – September 3, 2013

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT
Changes to Crafting

Weaponsmith, Huntsman, and Artificer can now be leveled to a rating of 500.
Crafting experience for all disciplines has been updated to accommodate leveling to a rating of 500. As part of this, the total amount of leveling experience that comes from leveling a crafting discipline now requires leveling all the way to a rating of 500.
New ascended material refinement recipes now unlock at a rating of 450.

So when looking at this in May 2015 we can say:

  1. Ascneded trinkets and back have existed for almost 2,5 years now, the game is nearly 2,75 years old.
  2. Ascended weapons have existed for almost 1,75 year now
  3. Ascended armor has exoisted well over a year now, closing 1,5 years.

So it’s not like they did it just recently. The request was originally from people who had 5 or more characters with max stat gear in 2012 and asked for content so they could continue to improve their gear on main and alts in the long term.

On average a legendary should take 3-6 months of farming and a ascneded set should take 2-3 months farming… And I mean farming, not talking about doing the TP flip and buying everything in 12 months and saying: Well, there is no content.

Just be patient, I just finished my 3rd armor and I have gotten 3 boxes of armor and put them to good use. I have been playing since headstart.

So you know. And still ascneded gear is not as powerfull as anybody says. In 90+% of the game it functrions like exotic gear anyways, as it downscales below lvl 80. rendering your gear exotic in all areas except for SW, DT, southsun COve and Cursed shore, and in ALL dungeons with exceptions of COE explorable, HOTW explorable and ARAH. The only place where it holds true value is in WvW where infusions could be added, (whcih is useless atm, but the +5% amror is nice) and FRACTALS weher it is very usefull in lvl 50 fractals, as most ppl DO have an wepaons set and armor, but no aquabreather or underwater weapon(s) of ascneded quality..

In wvw ppl below 230 levels and above are already in a way different level, as are pugs without builds and food, compared to the silver, gold and platinum fighters…

Even the ascneded armor will not help you to compete. As the experience ppl will get 2500 Hp 100 power and condition dmage wich last even through downs, and ppl using wvw infusions will always have a point up over those also using thier armors for Fractals and so on.

Be aware Ascended armor does give you 5%-7% more armor , depending if you have toughness in your build and could give you 5-10.5% more DPS if you have a zerk armor…

then again the 2 buffs added and food added and bloodlust added and stacking sigils added will make this rather minor, When fully buffed I run 600-700+ more power (without banners or might) then base. (100 power/ 100 condi dmg from 1st buff), 30, 50 or 70 from bloodlust, 250 from stacking sigil, 100 power from food (seldomly run def food tbh. ) ~150-170 power from sharps.
In combat I gain another 600 power and 600 condition dmg from might making me 1200 power more powerfull in combat compared to entering…

Also 30, 50, 70 vitality, healing power, condition dmg, toughness and so on should be considered.

The 17 slots provided for ascneded gear are quite underwhelming … and when considering all numbers the 5% from armor, and the 5% from weapon are the only gain, which is based on a long term investment.

You can make it, some people have it. I have 5 characters with 1 or more pieces of ascended armor (1 with 2 full sets, 1 with 1 full set, 2 with chest and legs and 1 with only chest. of those 5 character only 2 have a set dedicated to WvW on the other 5 charatcer I only use ascneded trinkets and weapons., mostly as I cannot afford the 275-575 gold for each character. And food and utility will far outweigh the benefits… of an armor….

I have my character in exotic armor instantly when achieving 80. having no long term goal will make your reasons to play way smaller. nobody cares for legendaries anymore, as they are more common then all other exotic skins. leaving you nothing to achieve anymore other then playing the game working to reach the platinum or mithril levels of some other players…

You will not be comparable to those players until you are quite a bit in your gold levels… so ~lvl 1400 or so. even when wearing ascneded armor. as they are more versatile, carry more supplies, use ’m faster, can jump on any siege with maximium effects and are inrically familiar with all possible nooks and crannies of the maps…

I know ppl with 7 or 8 k AP who played since headstart. and have ugly characters because they only care about WvW, they only play for WvW, not for looks, skins, points but just know zergs, roaming, and all other facets, I know ppl who played wvw for a long time and did some PvP to return quite dissapointed cause none of the sharks, phoenixes and dragons could hold their own. while they were only bunnies.

It is a gaming mode in its own. fighting with 30 guildies wiping 50 or 60 man blobs asks for coordination and skill, not just armors.

And the fact ppl think they cannot ever aquire ascneded, well just start.
You will make 1 piece and a week later the second, maybe 1 or 2 weeks later the 3rd and in 2 months give or take 2 weeks you’ll have your armor. Just make sure you think about the stats, wrong stats are nioce but unusable for 300+ gold…

Finally, when playing PvE it really doesn’t matter if you run exotic or ascneded except in lvl 39+ fractals. and even there it is not 100% neccesary. leaving the unjustice of ascneded very very much a personal opinion. in 2 or 3 months you will have your own armor and you’ll compare and find it give you some change, but if you are going to be in problems the differences between exotic and ascneded will not save you…

Doubt you can call this many atm…. Wait untill HoT is released…

We saw when gw2 was brimming with life: extreme loading times, swamped download servers, character lag in cities, crafting and BLTP lag due to load, Dc’s due to crowds

BUT LA had only limited crafting arrea’s people are all gathered in lion’s square the MF square and the bank area and the crafting area above it. Loading times were way higher at the time….

We’ll see, I really really really hope HoT will respark the life in GW2…

Home maps tend to be a bit fuller nowadays as well, but I remember when Megasevers first arrived I was in overflows all of the time, not ever seeing main server maps (nowadays I see most msg’s and recruit being about SFR, before Megaservers I was in FSP and everythin was about FSP, sometimes in an overflow ppl spoke german or french with recruits for any server, but it was rare, between on SFR when Megaservers were released crowds spoke any language with recruits for any server, which seems to become english again, with recruits being for my server only again… guess no overflows are needed atm..)

celestial will provide benefits to your playstyle when 2 condtions are met:

1 You do not care for max dps It isn’t important due to the fact you can buffer with healing/ vitality and toughness, AND you will derive some damage from condition damage, both can be buffed by might leaving a decent hybrid, though not max damage…
2 You use 6 or more stats…. when using 5 stats the total used and beneficial stat points are lower compared to a normal 3 stat armor…

For elementalist, necro, engineer and guardian the use of celestial can be worthwhile, leeaving you a powerfull support build….

About aquiring mats:
1 buy the celeastial ascened items trinkets,they’ll cost 1 months, laurels/ fractals, guild missions
2 get celestial armor, try to figure out if this is a final choice and if so try to make the chest and legs ascneded as well (costs way more though)
3 make a selectable back item (250 v. claw recipe in the forge (for book/quiver) allows celestial selection.

Celestial sysngizes very well with the old now fallen divinity runes, they set you back 60 silver a piece but still provide most stat points…

Persoanlly I recommend a Zerker staff, but if you want you should get a celestial one.

I own a ele with 2 zerk armor(s) 1 with scholar, 1 with divinity and a celestial armor with divinity and both zerk and celestial weapons and trinkets including backs.

Last: get your hands on some dragon’s revelry starcake (45 to all stats, 20% MF comparable to the birtday blaster (40 to all stats) but food lasts 30 minutes and blaster only 10…. for food…
you NEED sharps/oils to mainitain some DPS…. and any measure taken to up your crit chance will pay of… (in dungeons use dungeon sets ELSE/ OR bloodlust and accuracy)

A Solution to the Berserker Meta

there is 2 things: zerker meta…

Meta is the present most powerfull build this will be changed by the tyrait system so the zerk meta will shift,

Zerk is the gear set with stats being the highest DPS in game atm, while you do not run considerable risk one must say zerk is king and will stay king until people are FORCED to play something different.
This can be done either by removing active defense, de facto destroying the game and requiring reintroduction of the base trinity
OR
This can be done by making zerk no longer the highest DPS ingame. This could be done by raising -ARMOR- all over the game. It would fix everything.. lowering DPS and upping the importance of DOT which IGNORES ARMOR.
The only stat currentlky able to take it’s place would be condi dmg. either dire, rabid or any main condi armor.
this would automatically shift the better part of the game into high toughness gear destroying any DPS meta. Leaving a few radicals with sinister rampager and carrion.

While highest condition damage is easiliy achieved by using dire and undead runes, this is not automatically the highest DOT build. It might seem to be, but as DOT is heavily influenced by condition duration (each % of condition duration adds quite a lot to your base DOT (Cause it functions like being a critical damage trait being always active…)) condition duration will be very important as well… You will need a very high condition dmg to get double or triple base DPS in condition dmghe, but you can add 50-100% by using just some food and runes.

I have 9 mains and 6 alts but It’s just a matter of opinion I guess, 9 characters with 100% map. 2 alts still need steps in PS, lowest map completion is 44% lowest armor type is exotic (unless talking about aquabreathers.)

I ran this game on an old opteron 64 , which effetively had 2 Phenom II x4 processors, it ran quite okay, video was a small problem due to the PCI-E 16 was only v1.0 and the CPU clock was limited at 2.3Ghz… could run medium to high at 20-25 FPS anywhere?

for nvidia:

  1. Drivers?? Are they up to date?
  2. OS : when windows 7 makle sure you enable PcI-e v3.0 if possible,
  3. Set powermanagement to optimal performance instead of adaptive, else it will downscale the Pci-E link to 1.1 due to settings
  4. Optimize Nvidia settings, wellthere is quite a fel left
  5. NEVER PLAY WINDOWED, just do not. Windowed full screen could work,…
  6. DO NOT USE LOW SETTINGS: your Nvidia will card dowtempo to Pci-E16x1.1 due to lack of usage
  7. do you use 1280*960 (1,2M pixels/frame) , 1920*1080 (2M pixels/frame), 3840*2160 (8,2M pixels/frame)?
  8. 1 or 2 screens? If 2, which I expect: why not run windowed fullscreen? also 2 screens have more pixels to render… just to say. Thats why there is a full screen setting to ignore your second screen. it will be turned into a picture while running your game on the other screen a snapshot so to say so no computing power is wasted.
  9. did you make sure all the cores Gw2 uses have a private FPU on your FX processor?
    you may have 8 cores but you have only 4 FPU’s, didi you optimize them?
  10. what other things are you running? I use nothing except TS when gaming, and if it give lag I tell my commnder I’ll do it visual.
  11. does your rig run hot? is it in a location with high ambient temp?, can it cool? does you GPU cool? does turning up the fans make a difference?

And if you do not want to try, pls go, and next time do not waste our time.

1 thing ASCENDED will be downscaled to EXOTIC below lvl 80….

Making ascneded useless in all area’s except for Silverwastes, Dry Top, Southsun Cove, Cursed shore and a small part of Malchors Leap and Frostgorge Sound.

Continuing: Ascneded Weapons and Armor will provide less dmg/armor in all but these dungeons:

  1. Arah (Sigil of Force and Undead slaying, with powerfull potions of undead slaying: also very usefull for Undead farms in the whole of ORR)
  2. HotW (sigil of Icebrood Slaying and Force, with powerful potions of sons of svanir/icebrood slaying, also usefull in the better part of frostgorge sound except for the caves.)
    CoE: lvl 80 ( sigil of night and mad scientists, powerful potion of inquest slaying OR sigil of night and sigil of destoyer slaying , powerfull potion of destoyer slaying (making this one very worthwhile to run sigil of night and sigil of force, still recommend dedicated food))
  3. Fractals (due to the nature of fractals there is no preferable sigil set…)

With the above in mind: Ascended or exotics vary just a little, in 93% of present Tyria.

I know a lot of friends who use exotics for most dungeons due to most dungeon (especially the night ones) being lower then lvl 80 (exception CoE explorable)
It also makes carrying 5 sets of mainhand weapons way cheaper.


  1. For these dungeons you need zerk(/sin) armor w. power runes (preferably scholar)
  2. For these dungeons you need zerk(/sin) weapons w sigil of Night and sigil of X-slaying or
  3. For these dungeons you need zerk(/sin) weapons w sigil of Night and Force (-5% dmg)
  4. For these dungeons you need zerk(/sin) trinkets
  5. For these dungeons you need powerful potions of X-slaying and either butternut squash soup or truffle steak… ( + 100 precision/ + 70 ferocity) or ( + 100 power/ + 70 precision respectively)

All dungeons with night runes are below lvl 80 (exception CoE explorable)

  1. AC: lvl 35, sigil of ghost slaying, extended potion of ghost slaying (soulbound, artificer)
  2. TA: lvl 55, sigil of dreams, powerful potion of nightmare court slaying
  3. SE: lvl 65, sigil of sorrow, powerful potion of dredge slaying OR sigil of mad scientists, powerful potion of inquest slaying OR sigil of destoyer slaying , powerfull potion of destoyer slaying (making this one very woirthwhile to run sigil of force, still recommend dedicated food)
  4. CoF: lvl 75, sigil of smothering, powerful potion of flamlegion slaying
  5. CoE: lvl 80 (<= only one where ascneded differs) sigil of mad scientists, powerful potion of inquest slaying OR sigil of destoyer slaying , powerfull potion of destoyer slaying (making this one very woirthwhile to run sigil of force, still recommend dedicated food)

If you follow this list and use only zerk you will do the same or better damage then all others with ascended. Except for CoE, if the ascneded user is using the same stats…

Know: if they choose their own sigils (Bloodlust/fire/lightning and so on, their DPS will be ~17-25% lower then yours:
EVEN WITH ASCNEDED WEAPONS!
EVEN WITH ZERK OR SIN!
And if they are too lazy to buy food: you will -still- do 5% more damage even if the whole of the list is met.
With exotics over ascneded…..


On a personal note: It would really tick me off when ascneded and exotic would be merged in tier. I spend quite a bit of cash for 3 full sets of ascneded armor and 3 chests and 2 pairs of trousers. In stats I wanted (including very expensive recipes…) I have heavy Keerpers (zealots) unlocked, those recipe’s go for 2300 gold atm…. I bought them a kitteneaper ~200-250 gold or so. but they seem realy wanted now and imposible to reaquire.


4 reasons to buy ascneded:

  1. For 5% base stats, 5% base dmg, 5% base armor (which can be remedied by using food (you could use food permanently for 2-3 years and still have cash to spare compared to the cost of Ascended gear.))
  2. To Show Off/ Max Out using (Omni) Infusions
  3. To Do lvl 40+ (only really needed at 50) Fractals using AR/Omni infusions
  4. To use WvW Infusions

So if you:
do not use utility and food and
do not use dedicated gear, and
*do not care for infusions
:
Read Carefully:
I’ll be frank: Ascended is nothing for you.

Start by buying foods and utilities, 50 silver will boost your dmg 3-13%.
Start by making dungeon sets, 1 exotic weapon and 7 gold in sigils will boost your damage 15% in all night dungeons.

These 2 will set you back 15 gold give or take a few silver and will boost your DPS by 25-33%! and your armor 10% while the whole ascended set will set you back 320-625 gold and give you 8-10% dps and 5% armor.

My account is 989 days old, with headstart, I guess we’ll get a nice aniversary thingy when Gw is about 3 yrs (1095) days old also coinciding with the launch of gw2 HoT so about 106-109 days from now : 15,5 weeks or about 3,5 months,as it is mid may now between month 8 (august) and 9 (septembre) with pre sales starting around -july-.

Do not expect it before that time tbh. Or they should release all proffesions next week and dungeons and special features the week after.

I also expect the dates to be announced in about 11 days….

Melee staff already exists:

Even though its range is 1200, the staff for Mesmer is a close range weapon…When you use it at 140-180 range you’ll selfbuff (auto, chaos storn, chaos armor, phase retreat in your own fields for ADDITIONAL chaos armor by being able to proc your own chaos field(s) and benefit more from the shatters and clones. Of course you can stand at 1200 range np, But it will be way more weak then standing in melee range.

Considering the above making melee staff effectively integrated your request is probably wrong and should, IMHO, read: plea to reconsider “physical combat staff”.

If you’d have your 5 buffed rangers focus fire on the ele’s you would win in seconds…

  1. 5 stalkers f1 =>25 might
  2. 5 times ROA => fury /stability
  3. All just rapid fire 1 ele (~15k dmg) , from 1500 range, ele’s cannot counter. maybe some have reflect skills if so good thinking… all ele’s at 14k HP go down.
  4. just barrage ‘m to death, I’d like those mist forms scurry everywhere
  5. just rapid fire second time,
  6. done.

No need to ever be in range of the Ele’s.

Oh ignore frost spirit, it costs time, the added 10% is a waste. They’ll be dead anyways, 1 could take spotter of course, and you could exhaust their dodges if you wanted to…

Alternatively: Just by firing skill1: 3,5-4k dmg from max range tends to hurt. 5 times 3.5 is 17.5k

If this rapid fire doenst work out just focus them individually,

  1. Target #1 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  2. Target #2 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  3. Target #3 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  4. Target #4 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
  5. Target #5 : 5 ppl focus: skill 1, down , 5 ppl focus: skill 1, dead
    If anyone gets close skill 4, or just press rapid fire, advantage of all ppl taking 1 shot, if when reflected you stay up, if not they go down.

I would buy 800 gems , build a study fund for my 2 daughters, pay off the house, buy my wife a new car and redo the bathroom and the toilet, and get a decent set of chairs to sit on. I have no chairs whatsoever in the house made for a guy 2m tall… which tends to be a problem as I am 2m04…

I could enjoy a holiday flying business or first class having some room for my legs, or enjoy a weekend in paris or whatever going by train sitting reasonably..

Oh and I’d buy a flatscreen Tv. and hang it high on the wall so my 4 yr old doesn’t want to sit with her head in the old CRT TV all the time, so we can enjoy and talk about her programs instead of her hairdo… Though she has limited screen time. She does like it… and with 10+ dedicated childrens channels there allways seems to be a favorite program on tv, That was way different 35 yrs ago…

I would.. If I could…

And maybe I’d set aside 10k for a new PC and buy everything which is over the top. a Dual processor Xeon system with 4 GTX 980 Ti’s or titan blacks based on all SSD’s and 64 Gigs… and buy 2 28" 4k screens and a VR headset.

Zhaitan is ALL BONES, no flesh whatsoever Even if I jumped of a roof myself I would have a better gliding pattern… And trust me, no matter how fast I flap my arms, I have the flight pattern of a brick with fear of heights.

Those players who just recently joined and created a lvl 80 should be aware of their presence atm.

Making conditions able to crit is a horrible idea, they already ignore armor and you can get stupid high condition duration with food. Besides they are making changes so to that you can stack over 25.

You can gain up to 100% condition duration effectively doubling the original duration, but If you are full condition most of the time you’ll be stuck at 50%-60%, you can also buy runes of hoelbrak instead of sttrength, or melandru, antitoxin, or many others giving you when combined with condition reduction food condition duration reduction… up to 65%… If you are really afraid for an uncleanable amount of conditions…. this could be an answer. Or you could use sigils which remove conditions on hit, crit or swap, you could use traits to remove more then the noral conditions, most proffessions are able to clean a decent amount of conditions, you could use shout cleaning and if you do not have shouts : ask friends to join your party if they run runes of the trooper, Shout heal warrior build could be reinstated now we are no longer locked into stats….

Ferocity and precision are not a issue, it is all other stats and the ai in pve. Why would you need any vitality or toughness when the mobs are so stupid you can just los them to death or when you can just dodge their 1 slow hard hitting attack?
They need to improve the ai and make mobs less telegraphed to encourage players picking defensive stats.
(the ai is abysmal – when you los a ranged mob it runs to you to get backs his los but then stays in melee range, never even trying to make some distance…)
Even if telegraphs were shortened only a small group would be affected. The AI is not as powerfull as it should be, but I’ve seen some enemies sidestep my Meteor Showers, maybe a rework of the AI is a work being implemented

In pvp/wvw they need to strait up buff healing power to make it of any use. Toughness and vitality are fine as is, it’s just that active defense alone can keep you alive if you play smart even if you are full berserker.
Guess you haven’t ran present “healing/ support builds”

Staff water support Ele tends to heal a LOT `1000 HP every second, without regen, cleansing wave or geysers, or soothing mist, just from spamming 1…. AOE… in 240 range…. this is with delicous riceballs, the aquatic benevolence trait, and runes of the monk.
Also the symbol guardian tends to be an adept healer, providing heal with mace/focus on auto , skill 2, signet of resolve, or on staff, with skills 2,3,4…. *
*Both builds seem to be buffed quite a lot when the new trait system comes in, as shout heal warrior, even support necro seems viable, soon. most present meta builds are going to be viable as well, which is quite a demoton for meta builds…

All ofcourse combines with zealots, clerics tends to be the peak for healing builds but the lack of damage tends to be a problem… clerics mace guardian can have 2200+ healing power though…. 2490 even ith the correct food and stacks….

For DPS you need the build, the skills, and to make maximum damage you need POWER,PRECISION and FEROCITY.
If you know your rotations and are abled to buff up well some fights last 1 maybe 3 seconds…, you can be countered by blinds blocks aegis and will deal less damage while weakened, and your target can heal himself once.

For DOT you need a build, the skills, and to take maximum advantage of your damage you need CONDITION DAMAGE and CONDITION DURATION, TIME
And thus a survival mechanic, be it dodges/ active defense and/or TOUGHNESS for mitigation and/or HEALING for vampiric attacks or Healing (over Time)… TO CREATE your TIME

And PRECSION is still very much required for applications on critical…. be it from sigils/traits or whatever….
Fights last LONGER, due to the conditions needin to be stacked.
You can be countered by condition clean, requiring a full reapplication of the conditions, heals, blocks, aegis, blinds, soon by resistance, traits removing any chance of applying DOT…. Healing over time will make little stacks useless…. And you need a decent window of time to apply conditions….
Your 1 bonus is damage will remain until cleaned, forcing ppl to stay in the battle, sometimes forcing a kill even though you are downed…

Regarding high armor targets and DPS/DOT distribution:

Personally I find introduction of -way- more highly amored critters a good thing, It could be compensated by introducing a “cracked armor” applicable by blunt force weapons (hammer/mace) and explosions (bomb kit, explosive projectiles, Meteor shower), or by piercing attacks (make 1 attack in the auto chain pierce for some continued dmg) (daggers/swords/bows/firearms) allowing more builds and requiring a decent choice of weaponsets….

Of course this armor penetration should be applicable to the toughness rating, leaving basic armor and toughness normally applied. Maybe toughness should be halved or maybe temporarily removed…
first case would really depend on how much armor value you are running… A nomads character would lose about 600 toughness, a person with 2 pieces of cavaliers would lose ~85 toughness. any 4000 armor critter in the world would lose 1000 armor for a few seconds
in the second case you’d suffer glass armor for a couple of seconds. a 4000 armor critter would lose 2000 armor for a few seconds, and the nomads character would lose about 1200 toughness.. the person with 2 pieces Cavaliers would lose 170….

Cracked armor would allow normal DPS to penetrate armor for a limited time, Piercing would be specific for the attack only.

Well after farming for 8 days, spending all time I can possibly find on SW’s and DT instances where see people shine I must admit I feel…

Discouraged, disheartened even, I still made good money, had fun again in SW, finished my 3rd sinister trinket set, now my warrior, necro and mesmer have sets, And started on a 4h one for my ranger I must havr gotten close to 400 ecto…

But I have come to a point where I would say, well I did gw2 beta, HoT stress test, but I doubt to get a portal, My wife and kids are having some problems with thier throats, I had a decent laryngitis, And I notice farming is nearly over.

Though I want to I noticed people having 2 ,3 and n some cases more portals, An after 30 hours I have 0..

Will there be an open beta (maybe with the purchased (pre-ordered) key?)

Remove soulbound from the game

Soulbound is only applicable on masterwork, rare and exotic armors which are 1 gold, 2 gold and 5-25 gold respctively if you pay for them, they drop very frequently OR are easily made, or easily aquired by other means…I can usnderstand why these very easily accesible items ae soulbound on use. But I CANNOT understand why they get soulbound by applying runes/sigils.

Runes/Sigils from dungeons are account bound.

There is actually still food which is soulbound, and utility food, which is so well… in error that is was reported as bug by many people and was placed in the bugs forum, the suggestions forum and so on.

Ascneded items being unusable due to stats is an inconvenience, but never look a given horse in the mouth…… Just be happy you got one. Even if the only thing you can do with it is making soup. (Like: “It is the gift that counts?”)

Having account bound items for the ascnededs (vision crystals makes sure you level your proffesions) and if you would sell ascnededs: Merchant ONLY. -Not on the BLTP.-

I do not want the whole game flooded by people selling their armors. If my account would get hacked I do not want my armor(S!) being sold off as well.

Salvaging well I do not mind If you get 1 or 2 damasks/Elonian leather/deldrimor ingots/spiritwood refunded maybe a chance for a lesser vision crystal from items made with a Vision Crystal.

In retrospect turning them into armor pieces or outfit would have been way more usefull and usable.

My personal favorite would have been armor pieces to retainn the mix and match options… But I had some,got some tonics in return and NEVER EVER USED THEM AGAIN!

I’m still wondering why I go to a converter and get the basic ownclothes tonic with each alt, Already haveing to many of them as is….

Those named items are levelling gear.

They have stats 6 levels above their actual levels. IF you find the lvl 68 you are holding a weapons with the dmg of a lvl 74 with the level requirement of 68, bound to maximum upgrades for a lvl 68. (in effect lvl 65 for lvl 68) but also available in other levels, they tend to jump 6 levels… 20(master), 26(master), 32(master), 38(rare), 44(rare), 50(rare), 56(rare), 62(rare), 68(exotic), 74(exotic)….. If I’m correct they are avaiable through crafting as well…. lvl 400…

I have 9 characters with world completion, Been There Done That.

If I need to do all skill challenges again would make me very annoyed.
The other 6 have 40+% world generally while ignoring hearts, doing skillpoints, and getting Poi’s and WP’s, So I guess I should have 15 chars ready from the start….

Also all traits and specs have allways been available since launch for PvP…

I guess the WvW community will have the worst problems with the 9 SP available. unless WVW unlock would give the same advantages as World Completion…

Oh an people seem to have gotten the portals from labyrinths chests as well, until now I still haven’t heard people getting them from te 5 champions though (I do not mean the breach champs) but the 5 champs after the VW.

people also think camping 1 fortress is comparable to roaming the map and tagging everything…

I notice when running around the map I gain 250-270 badges while I gain 150-170 whie camping a fortress, knowing most veteran bosses are worth 3 badges, and some will come from doing a second fortress defence, I expect doing 10-15 addional objective is easily achievable, which is an added 15 chests, for an additional 15 chances per event cycle… doing this once doesn’t seem a problem but I noticed most people are hopping events now, I gathered 4k tokens the last few days since patch, I made quite a lot of cycles, say 16-20 This will mean I got 16-20 * 15 addional box tries. (240-300)? compared to those people who just camp a fortress. No luck though…

Maybe DR is affecting me… even with 662% MF, I still have no luck… did gain 600 bolts of silk and 330 ecto though…

Well…. The problem isn’t how much you want to pay. The problem is how much they want to ask… Just so you all unerstand, any price between 29,95 and 49,95 is normal depending on download only or box, and I expect a mark-up of 10-20 euro/dollar for the deluxe version, and another 15-30 for the collectors… which could leave desired editions 29,95 to 99,95 based on what you want and they think off, but I expect to pay around 39,95 for the basic download version, 49,95 for the basic box, 59,95 for the deluxe digital tbh. and around 79,95-89,95 for the Collector’s edition

I just want to add, I just have1 account , so I canot compare, but I had 1 precursor drop ,The Energizer, from a random dredge in dredgehaunt cliffs, I got the occasional rare now and then, sometimes an exotic nad 3 weeks ago I got 2 ascended Zojja chests with 2 days between drop…, No I’m just waiting for this to happen with 2 dusks in 3 days.

All other people tend to have more cash the I do, but I have 15 fully geared lvl 80’s 5 now with some or complete ascended armor, 12 with asceneded weapons, and 13 with complete trinket sets.

I decided not to make any additional gear for a while and got 350 ecto and 150+ gold fromsw farming in less then a week, And I only played 6-10 hours a week in SW since they announced the beta portals, most of the other time is spend either doing AC/dungeon runes or WvW.
I still buy food, I still buy things I need, but put the rest on hold for now. First need to se how the new trait system will affect gameplay. no vitality or toughness is great, but some builds will need to be tweaked, And I did buy a complete sinister trinket set from SW last week (5000 bandit crests, 50 gold)… Still working on my 4th set, still have a ranger really interested in losing his rampager trinkets.

In the end getting rich doesnt have to do with RNG, it has to do with not spending anything… Only pre’s and ascended boxes cann be seen as special IMHO, and I’ll be honest, I got 6 of the boxes, 1 precursor in 6.4k hours since launch.

Hi…

I am a female Necro, Maximia is My Name, and I was born human,was found at launch, celebrated 2 birthdays in my harem, nearing the third…. I did get love unconditionally… until 8 months ago…. when the master suddenly switched to a guy….
I managed to get a lot of attention from our master till 3 months after launch, I had a nice girlfriend, a ranger whom I met the first day, but after these first 3 months, a redhaired devil appeared, she took over, and invited a warrior and a guardian, the master continued experiments on how all characters were and are used and eventually the group of friends grew… The elementalist learned cafting to 400/400, as did my ranger friend and the warrior…. Nothing to stressfull, I got a second and a third armor made by the red haired devil and I felt happy….

The group grew to 8, then 10 and eventually 13 girls, nothing strange and then The lord created a male asura, we were shocked….. Not too long afterward our guardian friend been there since 3 months after launch got a sex change….. In this time of turmoil, the elementalist got ascended armor, the old warrior was passed by a new favorite and the new one got 2 full ascneded armors and full ascended gear almost instantly. The older warrior stood there and received some weapons eventually, but remained loyal, loyal to her friends, a third warrior came, but both older Norn warriors put the new Charr in her place, she was to become test subject like all others, the ring of friends required test subjects. In this era second and third ranger, second mesmer and then something strange happened, while the 2 mesmers were mostly doing invisibility spells 1 vanished into thin air, and the male asura engineer was utterly destroyed never to be seen again… Both asura vanished and the group of test subjects changed to become a warband… consisting of human, norn, syvari and charr.
All my friends from start remain, only 2 asura gone missing, but when experimenting you sometimes see experiments go wrong, and generally who’s in charge? Yes…. Asura…

We were utterly shocked…welll, actually we weren’t tbh…….

From the dead a new necromancer appeared, A huge male charr… and 2 female humans a guardian and an ele. He got ascended trinkets, ascneded weapons and eventually one of the most expensive magical armors in tyria.. The other 2 were equipped with ascneded weapons but the ascneded trinkets they were after have still not been conceived….My envy grew but I still remain, I have nice shiny trinkets like most in my harem, but after minionlike service since launch I do no longer receive the attention I once got…

In the end I got the short stick, The ranger I started with got The Kudzu, The redhead Elementalist got ascended armor and the Meteorologicus, though the mesmer has been attempting to steal her scepter… I doubt the redhead ele would mind as she has ascended armor 2 full asc. trinket sets, 2 full asc. weapon sets and mainly uses staff….
The mesmer envies the ele, and occasional fights occur….seems she wants a shield now, maybe she has the idea she can manipulate time…

I know I’m not forgotten, tough I tend to be jealous about the things some newcomers got and the fact I was passed over… I do not mind I’ll wait and return from the dead, maybe as mistress, maybe as minion, but I will reappear, as Elite Necro’s should. Lich form… Leaching ascended armor myself and reclaiming my place in the ranks of the most powerfull….

In the end I really am glad 1 thing passed and didn’t affect me. I’m still a female necro…. even though I wonder if this could have changed things… We live with 13 in our harem with 2 guards, 1 guardian and 1 necro… still as experiments for our master, He has told us many changes and challenges are coming and I hope they are for the best. We envision a new world with new horizons… but for now I run still my rounds as a hybrid terrormancer….

Last: Nobody will call me Alt! Alt means old in old tongue. I regenerate, I control life and death. I am original. I am 1 of the 9 Mains. though the others are reaching the same level… New additions to the group will need to adjust we have our own seats of power…

I just do not understand why people want (condition based) mesmers to be -single target- …

Only sword has cleave… ALL other options are single target except offhand pistol and staff auto…

I think mesmers should lose their (great)swords for a month and then come back and reevaluate.

And yes I’m aware GS attacks are piercing till last target, you have I zerk and staff clones, chaos storm…., but still… how are you goping to chaos storm someone to death?

I see small 10 man raids regularly using mass invisibility as a easy way out of fights whcih cannot be won…

Maybe the memser is not the commander but a trusted lieutenant he surely is…
