~ Ranger
(edited by Pendleton.6385)
To every ranger that is not BM spec (IE Pow/cri, Tough/condi, hybrid pow/condi) this would be a massive buff to their specs as pets would now natively SUPPORT a players spec instead of having to waste traits to make yourself condi and your pet “sorta” condi.
no it would not be….
actually, the pet as it is currently is our blessing and our curse at the same time. I play in P/T/V gear with a glasscannon spec and my pet still does its own amount of dmg. If the pet would scale with my own stats, I would loose about my half dps, even if I only have 5 points into BM. You just think about the rangers that go “condi” or “glasscannon” but you dont think about how much variety, and currently one of the best mechanics the ranger offers we will loose. Having the pet NOT scale with your stats offers so many ways to really customize your ranger. This is the reason I started playing a ranger during the beta and its the reason i still play one today as my main. Taking away this feature of the class would just cripple it. The pet would just remain as a cute looking little thing. And why would I want my pet to get healing power if it has no healing? For example the wolf, I use it for the aoe-fear and the knockdown, now I would have to swap it, because the healing power would be useless on this pet, and it would cripple my dmg even more, just like condi-dmg…
This is the way the class was designed and the pet-diversity is one strength of the class, and you want it to be changed, to be even weaker?
Sorry for mistakes, its getting late >.>@Xsorus: couldn´t have said it better, I absolutely agree!
I agree as well. Also, Xsorus stated it correctly. Pet stat scaling would only further limit the build options for rangers. This is for all aspects of the game… wvw, spvp, and pve.

In my opinion, the pet scaling and reflecting our primary stats would hurt BM/Bunker builds. My pet is my main source of dps. I like that he doesn’t scale with me.
I tank while it hurts people. I’m still amazed how many opposing players don’t pay attention to pets.
But this is exactly the problem, a high damage pet that requires little to no attention that counteracts the spec that the player has chosen, what you describe what you enjoy so much is the balance issue itself.
Only that’s the way the Ranger Class is designed.
You become the “tank” while your pet is the “DPS”
It’s why you have glass cannon rangers generally use bears
They’re the DPS while their pet is the TANK
This is not a foreign concept for a game, It’s how a lot of games actually work with Ranger type classes.

The mechanic was designed to be this way.
Also, saying the pet requires little to no attention is not accurate. My cat can be facerolled if I’m not paying very close attention. In fact, most all GW2 pets can … even 30 deep in BM.
There’s an easy way to beat a bunker BM … kill his pet and then slowly kill him.
I’m not trying to troll or anything … I just don’t understand why people want to nerf the two main builds of a ranger that really make us viable..
I find in WvW or sPVP, people get embarrassed to be killed by a ranger because of the overall view of them. I killed the same mesmer close to 5 times in a row because he was upset a ranger killed him.
Jaguar → f2 + QZ with 30% extra crit damage is fun too
LOTRO’s hunter was pure dps with no pet. It was squishy but a good representation of the woodsmen/archer type role.
In WvW, I use mostly jaguar for sneak attacks or birds. Birds seem to hit moving targets better. I rarely use drakes. sPVP, I use cats and they seem to hit targets. I use a trap to slow them as well … also use rune of the grove which has the occasional root.
I’m not expert by any means and not claiming to be one. I’m just going by my own experience.
I enjoy the ranger in PVE, WvW, and sPVP as well. I had to invest deeply in the BM line to keep the pet alive longer.
Also, I have f2 and f3 bound to two key on my mouse, which makes it easier to control during boss fights. However, dodge giving protection is what really helps … for me at least.
There’s a lot of QQ in the sPVP forum about rangers being OP. I hope the devs don’t listen to it.
If I ever create another ranger, I’ll name him Juvenile Ranger and give my pet a name.

Good idea….sort of an in game ranger forum minus the rage.
I agree. The ranger needs some work and constructive posts are great. The rangers suck posts are getting old. I never experienced any type of ranger hate on TC.
Regarding zergs, it’s not a role …. but I love hanging outside the group and LB#4’ing enemies back into the zerg. Again, not a role but fun.
Centhis, can you post your build? I would be interested to check it out …. out of interest and not to troll it.
Hello!
Can anyone recommend a guide for getting leather working to 400?
Or, can anyone offer some tips?
I concentrated on leveling to 80 first. I’m coming back to crafting and feel a little lost with it.
Jaguar + f2 + QZ + 30% extra pet damage is amazingly fun.
Last night, I was hiding out of sight at an overtaken supply camp waiting for roamers to try and retake it. They engage the npc’s to pull them one by one.
They never see the jaguar and have no idea what’s going on until they’re down.
It’s people venting because they realize 222222222222 just isn’t gonna cut it anymore ( against most classes )
Most of them aren’t even playing the ranger profession though. They’re just coming here to troll.
I hope some of it starts getting moderated.
This post and certain responses seem like trolling to me. I suggest people stop replying and just let it die to page 2.
There’s always been some QQ about the ranger on these forums. A lot of it is justified and constructive. There’s frustration that Anet is moving slowly. I get it and I’m not talking about those posts.
However, what’s up with all the new posts from people that are purely trolling the ranger forums??
They are admittedly not even playing the profession. Threads saying that they would never invite a ranger to their group, telling us how bad the “hunter” profession is, or challenging rangers to duels for gold …
It’s starting to read like the thief forums where people just pop in to say I hate you.
Why this new trend on the ranger forums?
I am feeling a little pigeonholed with WvWvW. I have some success with 0, 0, 20, 20, 30 or 0, 15, 15, 10, 30.
It doesn’t seem like there is any other viable build other than going mostly beastmaster/trap build.
Has anyone had any good experience with a different type of build in WvWvW?
I’m getting bored with the status quo.
Thank goodness … got me worried for a second there.
It has always showed +1 per point but it gives +10 to each of you pets stats if you check their stats. Unless of course it doesn’t but I don’t understand why that would change.
I hope you’re right. I haven’t been able to log in to check.

Fern hound and Red Moa for group regen/fury. You can heal the group, add some buffs, and stay alive longer than most everyone else. You and pet rez dead group members.
Groups I run dungeons with like it.
I’m not claiming to be a great ranger or anything. I’m probably just about average in skill. I join basic pvp and wvwvw.
I run a bunker/support build. I don’t have a horrible time against thieves. It is tough though against a really good thief. This is true for all professions but (in my opinion)more so for a thief.
I will say that in pvp it is obvious that people automatically focus on the ranger because they see us as an easy kill. There is also a great satisfaction in killing these people. I know … people will say so what you’re killing average players that don’t know what they’re doing. So what , I’m an average player too.
I do wish that Entangle was more of an elite skill though. Right now, it just feels like a normal skill because people can easily escape from it. This would be awesome against stealth skills.
Thanks, Agadar!
Hey everyone,
I’m mostly a bunker/group support (healing and pet group buffs) build but I would like to branch out a little. I’m hoping for a little more diversity.
I want a diverse build so I don’t have to constantly respec for everything.
I would love to get some constructive feedback about my build that doesn’t consist of roll another profession or something like that. I like the ranger for the most part.
My build is:

I am usually SB/LB in dungeons and WvWvW but I’m toying more with melee weapons lately (Sword/X).
I have defense stats on armor and offensive on weapons.
I use the superior rune of dwayna (sp?).
I usually use birds or cats in PVE/WvWvW. Fern hound and red Moa in dungeons for group buff/heals.
Any suggestions?
Cool. Thanks, Agadar. I didn’t know that.
Also, I think spirits are included in the five person limit for procs. Meaning that your pet and any spirits up will or could steal the buff from other members of the group.
Hi all,
I am looking for a mature and active guild. Pve, pvp, wvw, dungeons, fractals…. and everything else. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
Sorry if this question has been asked a bunch ….
I’m confused about fractals. How do they work? Are they just dungeon instances?
You get ascended gear from them, right? If so, are there certain fractals you need ascended gear to complete because of agony resistance or something like that?
I use to play lotro where you needed radiance gear to do some instances. I didn’t know if it was like that.
Also, what fractal is good for a neebie to do first?
Thanks!!!!
I know there’s issues with pets and spirits. I just thought it looked pretty funny with all of them running around.
I know spirits are too squishy right now and the issue with them stealing party member buffs. However, just for fun, I traited for moving spirits and tried to see how many pets and spirits I could have at once.
I was able to have a small private army. I wish spirits would be fixed so I do this all the time.
I had: 3 spirits, 2 hyenas (f2), 2 hell hounds from the elite skill, and myself. It was hilarious … like a small army. 8 including myself. Using the warhorn for hawks just added to it all …lol

Perfect. Thanks, Notebene !!!!!
Silly question … but when you say the daily event … are you talking about the random events that happen in each region (high and low levels)?
Or are you talking more about the Orr type events like the pact events, opening the various temples and stuff?
Hi all,
I recently hit lvl 80. I had about 55k karma points. I bought one piece of leggings from the Lyssa karma vender in Orr. It was like 44k karma points.
Was 55k karma at lvl 80 low? What’s the best way to earn karma? Dungeons … events? It seems like it will take forever to get a full set of gear from a karma vendor. Earning 44k more seems like it will take forever.
Any advice? Am I doing something wrong?
Does it matter what level I am for dungeon tokens? Are the tokens the same now as they will be at level 80?
Sorry if this is a really noobish question.
The picture at the top … is that a quiver? Do some armor sets have quivers now?
Hi all,
I’m a lvl 70 ranger. Should I be doing anything other than general leveling at this point? Do I need to wait until lvl 80 to start getting the gear, runes, and so forth?
Thanks!
Thanks Drasleona!
I’ve decided to pretty much keep my ranger exclusively aquatic. I’ve laid claim to the Sea of Sorrows. He is utter death from below. I taunt others from the water’s edge.
The Soggy-Ranger is deadly.
I agree with the rest though … especially the trait lines.
I read the forums a lot so I’ve heard a lot of the problems with using spirits.
My question is does anyone use spirits in PVE or dungeons with any success? If so, how are you managing this?
I really want to run a spirit build but it seems like it’s pretty hopeless at the moment.
Has anyone had any success … anyone?
Total face palm when I noticed that spirits receive the buffs as well.
By default, a ranger counts as 2 bodies at least (you + pet). That means you can only give out spirit buffs to 3 other targets. Call out 1 spirit then your ranger counts for 3 bodies (you + pet + 1 spirit) with only 2 other targets to buff. Call out another spirit and your ranger now counts for 4 bodies (you + pet + 2 spirits) with only 1 other target to buff. See the pattern?
I read somewhere that spirit users tend to use ax/horn since your job is that of a buffer. Guess what, your spirits will eat up those buffs essentially wasting them.
So, basically, if I have out three spirits … my pet, 3 spirits, and my character will keep the rest of the group from getting any buffs?
Is this a bug or was it on purpose? Wow, that is so bad it’s almost funny. I hope this gets fixed if it’s a bug.
Are there many lvl 80’s running a spirit build? I would love to but I hear it’s not practical due to their health and so forth … especially if this is true about the buffs.
Yeup…
The vast majority of the gear just looks bad, unfinished and/or thrown together in a few minutes by someone on project runway…
(yes I am ashamed of that reference, but more so that the situation called for it)
Ha … too funny.
I would even settle for one name that was assigned to all my pets.
Been around since Beta 1… these are the small things that should of been fixed pre-release… Its a tedious thing that just makes the game look rushed…
/agree
I think they need to also revise a lot of the trait lines. Although, I doubt that will happen.
Even simple things about it seem unthought out. For example, I still don’t understand why the MM line up’s your power and the skirmishing line up’s your precision. It seems like it should be the other way around.
I would also like to see a better main hand weapon. I like to dual wield, which leaves me the sword or axe for main hand. The axe is more aoe, which leaves the sword. I feel like the sword is so chaotic. You jump around like a madman. I don’t feel like I have much control.
I like the idea of the ranger more than the ranger class itself. I’ll keep playing it as my main but hope some substantial fixes come … even if they roll out slowly and gradually.
I’m not a fan of the leather coat skins myself.
Spirits proc more … now, if we can just keep them alive.
Hi all,
I read these forums a lot. This is the first time posting though. I am really perplexed by the ranger updates. They are totally off base from what the Ranger Update thread even hinted at …
It’s really more than a let down. I’ve never played any other Anet games so I don’t have a frame of reference with them. The utter lack of customer understanding shocks me. They either don’t care about the ranger prof or just don’t care in general because they’ve made their initial sales… maybe both.
These current updates almost seem like a slap in the face. This doesn’t improve anything. These aren’t even “quality of life” updates. This might have been the last nail in the coffin for me.
On a side note … I enjoy a lot of the funny posts you all write in the ranger forum.
