It’s probably a bug, but…
In the first story step of the beta, when the champion Mordrem Cavalier falls off of his dinosaur thingie, his appearance changes and he appears as a Sylvari wearing a mix of heavy cultural and Twilight Arbour armor. He does have a typical Mordrem Guard skin in the short cutscene when he gets up, just before he attacks you, so that why I think it's very likely a bug.
Still, it's a fun "coincidence". ;p
I don’t play human females, but I remember reading somewhere that the new faces had way too much makeup, and that they seemed a bit awkward.
I’ve got a makeover kit recently, so I checked out of curiousity and… well, actually they look waaaay much better with darker skin ! I actually like those on a black human, while I usually don’t like the human faces at all.
This thread needs more pretty Elonian women. :p
I really don’t get the hate for Caithe though?
It’s mostly because she makes horrible, HORRIBLE choices, and she’s constantly forgiven for it. The game makes us forgive her, too. We don’t get a choice in the matter.
In the sylvari personal story, there’s also a couple of points (depending on the path you take) where you’re going to leave someone alive, and she jumps in and kills them rather than let them return to the Nightmare Court. No mercy at all.
While I’ve not read the book that covers it, I believe she also was the one that gathered Destiny’s Edge and set them off to KILL Glint. Glint herself had to convince them to side with her against the real threat.
She took part in the slaughter of a tribe of centaurs that were just protecting another sylvari. And then, to protect a secret, she killed that sylvari rather than the one that was intending to torture the secret out of her. Kill the innocent, spare the guilty.
And now? She kept that secret from everyone, even Trahearne, who NEEDED to know it. Hundreds are dead, and the Pact is in ruins. And of the Pact sylvari, the dead may be the lucky ones. Caithe, meanwhile, has stolen the one object that might save us and run off with it. Even the Pale Tree is upset over this, and if we hadn’t been off chasing after Caithe to get the egg back, we could have been at Trahearne’s side to give advice during the assault.
A lot of us fear that the game will once again force us to forgive Caithe, and we don’t want to. Had she been honest with us and Trahearne, the Pact would be intact, the sylvari would’t be seen as pre-corrupted traitors, and we’d be well on our way to dealing with Mordremoth. Forget Scarlet, Caithe is his most loyal agent.
Thank you. As a non-english speaker, I had an hard time summing up why I couldn’t stand Caithe.
I really hope we won’t forgive her, or that she’ll get some payback for all the things she did wrong. There’s no reason at all why she’d hide the secret about Mordremoth and the Sylvari from Trahearne and the PC, who were about to fight said Dragon with thousands of other soldiers. Without her little secrets, the attack plans could have been changed. She spyed and used us because she’s not trusting us enough, and look at what she has done.
I don’t want to forgive her, even if it’s for “omg secret good reasons totally I couldn’t tell you guys yadda yadda greater good”.
I don’t mind Trahearne much. Actually, I’d rather see Arenanet write him better for what’s coming in HoT than just killing him “because some players feel like he stole the spotlight” (which he didn’t).
I do wish Caithe’s habit to make horrible choices and not trusting his allies is going to backfire, though. I don’t want her to just die either, but I do hope that she’s not going to get away with the all the crap she has done. If the PC is just like “oh it’s okay Caithe, we understand you”, I’d be really disappointed.

Yeah sure we’ve got weapons of mass destruction.
But we’ve got no magic at all. What if a guardian shield is enough to block a rocket ? :p Imagine the power of a giant magical dragon. The fact that he’s a plant doesn’t change a thing : he’s magical. Throwing bombs at him wouldn’t be enough, I think.
We don’t even know how clever he is. He could just destroy our main military bases just by attacking from underground. Or our power plants.
We never had to deal with armies of monsters coming from the ground. :p
So… yeah, I’m not sure it would be that easy just because we’ve got bombs, jets and stuff.
The class getting Shouts is the Necromancer
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: PetboyJoshua.3108
But what if I’m a boy necro? :P
Well, seeing that female necromancers turn into a buffed as hell male Lich, I don’t see why it would be more of a problem to just get a female monster name on male Necromancer. :p
It’s a fantasy world where bats look like gargoyles, one can imagine that Banshees aren’t all females in said universe. It’s not like they already exist in Tyria anyway.
I doubt it’s gonna be Banshee anyway, but I don’t see the whole “it’s a female creature name” as a real problem.
Thanks !
To be fair, most of the work has been done by the guys from gw2roleplayers who collected quite a lot of screens from the game (and also one person from the official forums whose name I can’t remember, but did an amazing job compiling 5 or 6 unique armors per race) .
I only play Asura and Sylvari, so I wouldn’t have been able to realize that some of those were totally NPC-only. I just did a few screens of stuff and armors that seemed to be missing, some google image search and put everything together. :p
I can understand that Arenanet’s working on armor sets for the expansion, and doing outfits in the meantime because it costs less time and money… But come on, there’s a ton of armor pieces that are waiting since the beta, and that we can see everytime we play… and they don’t think about giving us some ways to get them ? ;p
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
There’s a ton of those ingame, and we still can’t get them. Most of them are Cultural. If Arenanet isn’t planning to give them to us in HoT, what about just adding new Cultural vendors ? It’s not like they have to work on creating
Some of them look like outfit (some human dresses, for example), but some other seem to be regular armors, as some NPC even mix some parts. There’s clearly something to be done with those, plus it can be quite frustrating to see all those existing skins without a chance to unlock them.
There’s also some single headgears, and a few faces that are restricted to NPCs (and no, I don’t think that giving an unique face to an NPC like Blaize who only appears in the lv 10 human storyline and die is important. Even Trahearne has a face that’s used by other Sylvari NPCs.).
What about adding those NPC-only faces to the character creation for Heart of Thorns ? Arenanet, please ?
Pictures attached, you’ll see that there’s a ton of NPC-exclusive stuff, and I’m quite sure I’ve forgot some (there may be some NPC-only Norn faces, but as I don’t play that race, I couldn’t tell).
EDIT : Updated with some Asura faces. Don’t hesitate to share if you’ve got some screens of more NPC exclusive stuff.
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
Just got the daydreamer’s finery, aaaand it really looks great. I’m glad there’s no enormous pauldrons to go with it, plus it looks gorgeous on Sylvari if you match the gemstones/jewels color with your skin tone or glow color. Actually, it’s probably the first time I think an outfit looks better on Sylvari than on Humans.
It’s probably my favourite outfit with the Arcane one !
I wish it had a full mask rather than a tiara, though.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Hide-option-for-pauldrons-please-Outfits
Someone there even posted how some outfit would look without the shoulder part. :p
Some more attempts with the Zodiac Armor.
Make it happeeeen, Arenanet. :d The Daydreamer outfit is good, but there’s so much potential to make skimpier outfits for males (that aren’t Heavy armor class).
Btw : I also enjoy armors that cover every bit of skin, or more realistic sets, but while there’s already lots of those, gw2 clearly lacks some nice skimpy armors for males (…And female tuxedos).
Yeah, woulda been nice for a bit more skimpy in the leg department (…)
Zodiac armor without the blue texture.
Make it happen, Arenanet. :p (And add some underwear if you do.)
(Photoshopped screen to show what I mean.)
You don’t need the chatcode, it’s actually available to try in the outfit panel (we can’t buy it yet, though). :p
I love it. It’s got some kind of “eccentric noble” feel. Looks so fab I can already see my mesmer wearing it. :>
I wish I could use the mesmer starter masks with it, though, I don’t like the headgear.
Also, as someone who also wants more skimpy male outfit/armors… thank you Anet. :p I’m waiting for some less “flamboyant” looking skimpy male armor, now.
Edit : Have some screenshots with more neutral colors. :p
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
We can preview a new outfit, the Daydreamer’s Finery.
There’s no gigantic shoulderpads on that one.
Thank you, Anet.
If that means that we can finally get something that looks like a Sylvari themed outfit with the Melandru one, yes please.

I’d like to add a few ones for your list !
-Thorn Wolf.
-Red Fox.
-Jungle Skelk
-Alpine Skelk
-Reef Skelk
-Shadow Skelk
-A swarm of bees.
-Malyck
-A REAL SNAKE MINI. I’m baffled by the lack of snakes in this game. There’s one in the client, but it’s so broken I understand why we can’t get it… but maybe now they can make one that isn’t broken ?
-Every existing creature from Heart of Thorn of course. Like the mushroom guys, or the Mordrem guardians ! I hope we’ll get tonics for those, too.
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
I’d like the headgear as a single armor piece. It’s awesome, in an over-the-top kind of way.
A new outfit today, and still no option to hide the shoulders.
Doesn’t sound good :/ I understand they wanted to do something more “immersive” by not making it sound exactly like a modern bass, but… It just doesn’t sound pleasing to my ears.
Also, no slapping and popping sounds.
I was waiting for a bass guitar in GW2, but I’ll pass.
Please, Doggie. PLEASE.
Make a dapper Reef rider.
I need this in my GW2 life right now. ;_;
Yep. Bought my shadow green and shadow violet on the TP, and I like them. I’m not buying the Shadow Abyss, since using it makes it hard to see the armor’s details and textures. :T
As someone who used the Juggernaut on a warrior with the arcane outfit, I think it would look neat on leather armor too. The effect of that Legendary isn’t just your armor’s metal becoming shinier, it’s actually the quicksilver inside the hammer’s thermometer that goes out and covers your armor. So, yeah, it works as well on fabric or leather.
I’ve made a few screens with non-metallic outfits and Juggernaut effect so you can see how it renders :
I’ll be honest… I don’t like the human faces.
They’re too generic. They look like most of the already existing faces. I’d love the graphic designers to do something else, like characters with more Asian, Indian, or African face features. What about making older looking characters ? I can understand that Arenanet doesn’t want to give us the granny NPC’s face because it would be awkward with our character’s body, but at least… some more mature faces would be great. Or some face with really big scars, like Blaize’s face in the personnal story ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blaize ).
I feel the same about the new Norn’s faces.
The Sylvari ones are my favourite. I really dig the male ones ! love them or hate them, but at least they’re very unique, which isn’t the case for the other races. Thanks, Krysten Perry ! The second one is clearly my favourite. It’s freaky and can be really fierce looking if you play with the sliders, which is great ! The third one looks really sad. I like to see some variety in the character’s expressions, so I’m also pleased with it, and the bark pattern is also nice. The first one, I really enjoy the glow at night, but it’s not really my cup of tea.
I wish the females could get some freaky faces for a change, but those ones are nice, I really like the second one, it has something that makes me think of a girl from the Philippines.
The Asura faces are funny, though I’d like to see less “cute” noses for a change.
The scar on the second male one is actually a very good idea ! More of that for other races/genders, please !
I like the tatoo ideas for the Charr ! It really gives them a fierce look, a bit like the Necromancer’s starter headgears.
I’ve heard they can’t be dyed, though, which isn’t cool… it can be hard to mix bright red with other colors without the red looking out of place.
Overall, what’s disappointing is that they did variations of the same faces for all the races except Sylvari, but rather than making interesting changes in those variations (like the male asura’s scars), it’s mostly just about a few freckles, more makeup… Give us scars, Arenanet ! Give us more wrinkles !
Give people more choice, rather than just being like “ok, let’s make them choose between pretty & young, pretty & young and pretty & young”.
Subutex => No, there’s mini skales, but no mini skelks, actually ! The mini you’re talking about is actually a toxic skale.
I’d love a mini Thorn wolf !
And also, mini skelks.
I hope you don’t walk slouching like a Charr, or you’ll probably get some health problems (and you’ll look very, very weird). :p
Edit : Nevermind, I thought you were responding to me !
LMAO! why does a lizard have mammal breast??
Fun fact :
Kraits also have mammal breasts. The male have nipples, the females (witches) have breasts. So, yeah, there’s snakes with boobs in gw2…
That being said, I like Charrs the way they are, and I’m glad they actually look like a beast race, and not just like humans covered in fur with an animal head. :p
While I’ve been harassed by emote spammers a lot, because apparently annoying roleplayers is something entertaining for them (last time was yesterday, actually), I really hope Arenanet doesn’t ban people for “emote abuse”.
A lot of people actually spam emotes to make screenshots, or videos, because they need the right pose, the right timing, etc. How would Arenanet make a difference between them and the guys spamming only to kitten off others ? :/
I mean, come on. This armor couldn’t even protect this poor lady from a mosquito bite, rofl.
Well, it’s some kind of gladiator armor, so honestly I’m glad the characters are half naked in it (yeah, the male top shows even more skin). Also, it allows people who enjoy seeing norn tatoos/charr fur patterns/sylvari glow to use armor that doesn’t cover everything.
At least, playing a heavy class, we’ve got the choice to use some heavy plate armors that hide every inch of skin, or skimpier sets, regardless of your gender. If you play an adventurer class, well, good luck finding more revealing male armors. :p
That being said, I wish the armor sets looked more like they were actually from the same sets. Cabalist armor, Phoenix armor, Phalanx armor, anyone ? :[
And for the whole asura/charr female armors…
I prefer it the way it is, but I understand that some people would like to see their female characters in dresses or frilly outfits… I just wish they gave us choice, so everybody could be happy, but that’s probably too much work.
Actually, there’s harem-veil thingies ingame.
It’s just that players can’t use them.
There’s like, more than 20 armor sets that NPCs uses but Arenanet won’t let players use for unknown reasons. It’s very frustrating.
I also remember hearing Colin saying that (according to my youtube history, it could be in an interview by AngryJoe, Bogotter or Matt Visual).
But that doesn’t mean much, I think maybe that’s just their unofficial names (like, I don’t know, Stabbycats ?).
No, thanks.
While I’d like them to change the fight to make it less bland… I don’t want to hear about Zhaitan and his Risen minions again.
Undead enemies are really boring for me. I’m tired of seeing those everywhere, and going through the Personal Story which was heavily focused on an undead dragon and his swarm of zombies really annoyed me.
SPOILERS from the HoT demo :
So, about those “Mordrem thingies” that I think are Sylvari :
-They are as intelligent as the main races (they are able to speak normally, and even taunt)
-There’s males and females (different voice, and slightly different body structure)
-They can call for Mordremoth’s help at will (or, at least, the strong ones can, we only see a bigger of them do so).
-They capture Sylvari alive so they can join the Dragon army, and take the corpses of the other races (we already know that Mordremoth uses the dead bodies of thing that aren’t plant to make more minions).
Yeaaah. :’p
(Source : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tdnzUGSiSQ )
About Malyck’s tree and stuff…
Ronan found the Pale Tree’s seed in a cavern where there were other seeds, what if all those seeds went under some kind of purification ritual even before he found them ? He stole one, planted it far away… And the other ones were maybe planted by someone else in Maguuma to fulfill what they were made for. Maybe Malyck’s tree was one of those seeds.
And that would also imply that yes, there’s also seeds that weren’t cleansed, because I doubt that the ones responsible for the cleansing got all of the existing seeds.
Edit : sorry, my English is broken. :T
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
I saw there was a new outfit incoming.
And of course, again, there’s some giant shoulderpads I can’t hide.
Arenanet, please.
You make such nice outfits, but most of the times, the pauldrons are just too much.
Proud owner of… too many salads :’p
I’ve posted a screenshot of my Sylvari crew on reddit recently, so here it is again !
Those are all my Sylvari characters (minus my Ranger that I forgot and I’m now too lazy to add).
I used a second account so the camera angle wouldn’t change, since most of my characters are on the same account. Then, a bit of work on photoshop, and, voilĂ !
There’s 3 engies, 3 elementalists, 1 warrior, 5 mesmers, 1 thief, 2 necromancers.
I use the mesmers to leave them in some hard to reach places so I can portal friends when needed, this is why I’ve got so many of them. I only have one that’s 80, the black & blue one (Le Fournisseur).
I’ve made a guardian recently, but I still have to level him and think about a nice heavy armor mix.
The second screenshot features the names.
I’m a roleplayer, so most of them have a little background.
-All the NPC racial armors. Those already exist ingame, and there’s like, 5 sets per race we can see on the NPCs… Why wouldn’t Arenanet allow the players to use those ? :/
-The NPCs masks. There’s the veil of a merchant in LA, and also the masks of the Lion Arch’s guards.
-Different idle stances. There’s already a few emotes that play continuously when you use them (/cry, /sit, /sleep), why not use the same thing to make some different idle stances ? I know a few people who are annoyed by their Sylvari female looking at butterflies while smiling with glee, who’d love to be able to have some more serious looking idle animation, for example.
-A stool toy. A lot of people asked for the ability to sit on furniture, but of course working on that would be too time consuming for the dev, I can understand that. What about giving the player the ability to make a stool appear and sit on it ? Pretty much like the riding broom gives you the ability to fly sit and fly on a broom, etc.
There’s a drunk Sylvari in Gendarran field, at least :
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Drunk_Sylvari
I think there’s also two drunk Sylvari in the grove, giggling like idiots because of words that sound funny.
Yep, this is also what I’m hoping for.
Maybe the Nightmare Court we know could become two distinct factions : one that’s rooting for the Dragon (and the Dreamers that joined Mordremoth’s side too), and the other one that, yeah, isn’t going to obey to Mordremoth because it would totally be against their desire of freedom.
If Arenanet is just going to make them all go for Mordremoth, I’ll be quite disappointed, I just don’t see how being slaves to a Dragon would be okay with the NC’s philosophy.
It’s entirely possible that the Dream is actually a construct of Mordremoth
But then, why would it act as some kind of “shield” against Mordremoth’s influence ? Soundless are more vulnerable to that dragon’s influence, don’t they ?
I actually prefer them to stick to the same place like they did.
I know there’s a beta coming up, but honestly, I don’t want them to show most of the zone just so people can satisfy their spoilerrific urges.
I get that people want to see stuff, because it’s annoying to wait with only a few informations, but let’s be honest here : wouldn’t that be better to actually discover everything WHILE playing, rather than watching everything in videos beforehand and be all like “yeah I’ve already seen that in the last stream, let’s just farm” when finally the expansion would be available ?
I love the animation and look of it, but it’s waaay to big for me. :’p
And what about selling a version of the outfit without the pauldrons, along with the normal one? If creating a second “hide” option for outfits is too complicated for some reason, I mean.
Honestly, I’d like to know why they don’t put a toggle off option, and if they can’t, why they keep making gigantic pauldrons for outfits. The Bloody Prince’s, Ceremonial Plated, Shadow Assassin (maybe only for Sylvari, though), Hexed/Witch and Mad Thorn’s male outfits have the same problem.
Gemstore next week, maybe ?
Windu The Forbidden One > Well, it’s not that I hate the shoulders, for that one at least. It’s just that I think they’re too big to fit with this outfit, and looks totally out of place. So, yeah, I wish I could hide them, that would definitively make me buy the outfit.
(But I also think those shoulders alone could be a good thing if they existed as a single piece of armor, on a heavy class for example.)
Please, Arenanet, can’t you add a toggle off option for the outfit’s pauldrons ?
Everytime I see a really nice outfit, that is ruined by those awfully large pauldrons, I cringe. Can’t you at least add an option to toggle off the pauldrons ?
I’m sure I’m not the only person who’d rather not buy an outfit at all rather than having to see my character running around with pauldrons the size of his head (or even bigger, if you play with a male Sylvari, they’re often oversized).
EDIT : It’s NOT a thread to complain about outfits not being 6 part armors. It’s just about asking for a hide option for the shoulder parts.
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
I don’t think more voice option is going to happen, because it would be too expensive.
The PC isn’t voiced anymore in the Living World because it would be a pain to get like, 10 voice actors (one for every playable race and gender), plus 10 german voice actors, plus 10 french voice actors, plus 10 chinese voice actors… and redo ALL the already existing voiced lines.
But character creation options for the body and face doesn’t seem to be too much to ask. I already like GW2’s character creation, but let’s face it, it lacks a lot of options.
More beards for humans. More messy hairstyles rather than haircuts that make your character look like a fashion model. Curly and frizzy hairstyles (heck, Asuras and Sylvary have access to some better-looking dreadlocks than humans…). And more racial diversity (Sylvari have access to more racially diverse faces, and they’re not even human…).
I don’t know if it’s the same person who does the humans and the other races’s faces in this game, but that’s the case, I’ll be really surprised. It’s like Asura and Sylvari have someone who’s really having fun searching for new and creative ideas working on them, and humans have someone who sticks to the same kind of things over and over again (caucasian prettyboys and girls, hairstyles that are always look like something out of a fashion magazine and are always straight, etc…) :/
Also, the sliders tend to have less influence on the new faces ! I don’t know if it’s the case for every races, but it is for Sylvari : sometimes they barely change anything, no matter how you use them. It would be cool if they could fix that.
Edit : Different stances/idle animation could be a nice thing to change. I know a few persons annoyed by the whole “looking at butterflies with glee” idle animation of females Sylvari. It could be cool if we were able to choose between neutral, fierce, or “cute” idle animations.
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
I’m more worried about the whole “map full of events leading to other events” stuff.
It’s not the idea that’s getting me worried, I actually think it’s a cool thing… it’s the players :
I love to explore at my pace, try to do some map climbing at random places that aren’t Jumping Puzzles, take my time to do some screenshots/videos, or even roleplay with friends from time to time. But lately, there’s more and more people just getting angry and insulting me if I’m not doing the events.
So, yeah, I get it, you’d rather have kitteneful player on the map you could taxi and stuff, and having a few people not doing an event while staying close upscales it for other players.
I do a lot of PvE and I also farm like most players too, so, yeah, I know. But the fact is, I like to be able to do something other than bashing monsters or doing events sometimes, and the hate I’m getting from other players when that happens really kittenes me. I’m afraid it’s going to be worst and worst with the new maps. :/ Can’t I just play how I want and where I want without being seen as a troll ?
Do you guys speculate sylvari will diverge slightly from other races during the story or would it be worth it to make a sylvari character at a chance for some unknown reward/experience?
I’m hoping for a new Personal Story for every races, pretty much like when you create a new character. So, yeah, five different storylines, and the Sylvari could probably deal with the whole “fighting against corruption & prejudice” thing, which could be quite new and interesting if done well.
Wasn’t there new voiced PC lines in the last gameplay trailer of Point of Interest ? I guess they wouldn’t hire the all the game’s different races and gender voice actors just do a few lines, it could be that they’re actually doing a new personal story, where the PC is voiced again like it was at first ! :p (Not sure about the new voiced lines in the gameplay trailer, though, I usually don’t play Charr, so maybe I’m wrong.)
-Appart from the ones that are made of plants (Mordrem thrashers, for example), all Mordrems made of living creatures are actually corpses of those creatures, reanimated by plants (you can see their skulls, and other bones in certain cases). But this thing looks nothing like a corpse, but rather like a creature made completely of bark… pretty much like Sylvari or oakhearts.
-It’s got a very humanoid shape.
-It’s got humanoid animations, and is able to use weapons like bows and hammers (so it’s pretty much intelligent enough to use a regular bow correctly).
-While most of the monsters have a very animal-like teeth (sharp teeth, long fangs, etc), those ones have broad, flat teeth, quite reminiscent of human teeth actually… Or Sylvari teeth.
-Strangely, we don’t see Sylvari enemies attacking the crash zone. If the good ones have survived, some evil ones should have survived too. They could be those creatures.
-Mordrem “Court” ? Please. :p
-We already know Sylvari can change their appearance to an extent (hi Canach), and grow armor from their own bodies. Why couldn’t they transform into something like that if the Dragon gives them more power ? Makes me think a bit about the icebroods, actually.
-You say they should be called Mordrem Sylvari, but isn’t Sylvari the name that the Pale Tree gave to her children ? If they’re rooting for the dragon, I don’t see them getting called Sylvari anymore.
-Wasn’t it confirmed (I’m not sure about this one) that the Pale Tree consciously shaped Sylvari to look very human-ish ? Their true form could be something more freaky like this.
Now, I don’t deny that they could be other creatures, linked to a so called Mordrem Court where there would be normal Sylvari (like Nightmare husks, but more sylvari-ish). But I still think it’s quite possible that they are Sylvari.
I don’t see Arenanet missing an opportunity to actually make freakier, threatening-looking Sylvari, now that we’re dealing with a plant dragon that’s pretty much their creator, and now that some of their race are turning against the races of Tyria.
But, eh, we’ll see. :p
