More nerfs? Are you out of your mind? I rarely play mesmer now because damage is simply to low in pve. And you wanna nerfs one of our few viable pve Phantasms? One of the few that can holf of the POWER or ORR?
It’s really really really time pvp/pve splits are introduced, because you spvp/wvw whiners are destroying pve. Tyvm for that.
I’m using it now and love it, but afte reading the trait ‘convert condition’ i’m absolutley totally sold. I hate conditions, they are refreshed so fast by mosnster and often kill me. This will silence condition monster, and meanwhile grant me benefit
And while i sometimes in pvp switch for an actual damage weapon, it’s not this bad, because warrior skills tend to have lower recharge then other professions, so this makes up for ‘loosing 2 damage skills’. This gives at least equal damage (still more i think) then other profesisons, while essentially adding 2 utility slots. 5 utilities Lovely.
I don’t agree with guardians having more survivability. I get smashed often by way to powerful poison/bleeds (and to often renewed making removing condition useless). Stun breakers cannot keep up with Orr monster stun rates (and sacrafice your ’precious survival/support build slots), meaning you will be hit freely at some point while stunned, making you an easy target to die.
Blind has to short durations. Half of the time it doenst work, or the monster first use weak skill, and instantly after strong skill, making the blind useless and slashing you to pieces as well. I also noticed blind does not work for certain (especially very powerfull) attacks, meaning your only defence again got removed. The healing isnt great. Warriors can have continous regen as wel with the heal signet so really guardian isnt better. For the rest they nerfed healing so hard, most of the builds can’t keep up with Orr damage rate. Call me a noob but Guardian doesn’t have better survivabilty as warrior. On top of it warrior has a lot of ‘move fast’ (leap, whirl etc) attacks, wich can be abused to escaped battles. Guardian is mostly relying on blinds and dodges (with runes out in 5 secs in orr to dodge their first attacks, then you are at their mercy, cause they run incredible fast.
And as above posters said lowest hp pool is a big punish no matter how high defense/healing is. A few spikes can easely surprise you to dead. Ranged weapons of guardian are bad imo. They just don’t work well. Bow or gun of warrior work so much better. I love the bow so far.

Guardian might be good class, but PVE absolutley no fun. Yes the first weeks after playing ele/necro feel good because it’s more powerfull. Then you’ll meet lvl 70-80 monster (Orr Difficulty level) and realize, this doenst cut it, especially with the cooldown nerfs. It’s no fun or reliable to battle strong mobs, with this long cool downs.
100% agree with OP. Also This deserves an developer response.
My suggestion 10 or 12 sec cd (if you really want push it, 12 could be still ok-ish) for symbol. Remove or nerf the retaliation. Add something else, like vigor maybe? Or might?
And we might be back again to having some fun.
100% agree. My level 60 Guardian is eating dust. Why? Only greatsword was fully viable/fun imo (as main weapon, with traits focused on it). Now with the nerfs also that is out of the question. As long as Arenanet doenst realize this, I think i’m forced to play warrior. Normally warrior is totally not my playstyle. I like a fast and high utility mage class in particular. But with the current state of those (pve), I don’t see the point of playing them either.
So right now leveling a warrior. Let’s see if they are more fun fully traited (they are now already more fun.) A bit hard to play since close combat requires very good responses to survive (timing on dodge/block/blind).
Imo with the current crazy long cast times, crazy low aoe potential, even the 4x elements, do not offset the downside of not having weapon switch. Maybe dagger/staff ele weapon switch would be op. But Sceptor/focus + staff I don’t see overpowered in any way. Cast times/skill activation delays (dragon tooth, earth quake), keep the elee slow no matter how fast you change weapons.
That’s just my take on it. I wanted to love Ele but hate it. Then again almost noone of the classes have my love at the moment because most of them are not fun (balanced) in pve.
All ele skills should have shorter cast times.
Arenanet thoughts: ‘lets make a class with even more skills then the others, elementalist’. Ok but how we balance them? ‘Ok simple make all skills a lot weaker then other classes’. I can live with this but, the cast times kills it completely. We need like 8 seconds cast times, to do the same as a warrior or guardian in 2 secs. AND we need to go from element 1-4 risking full cooldown lock on the elements, not being able to proceed.
Secondly boost normal hit damage. Currently it’s ridiculous underpowered to other professions.
In the making of book Arenanet says ‘without you community, we would not able to make such a great game, so thank you for all your suggestions’.
This god incredible against that. First there were LOADS better suggestion then the current change. EPIC FAIL. Secondly you don’t even respond in this thread. In my humble opinion, a destructive change like this (it is destructive to the ‘fun’ part of gameplay – even though it may balance better now – so this really is a cheap solution) demands for justification. You should answer in this thread RIGHT NOW. But you don’t. And maybe i get you don’t wanna start wars. It’s a common mmo strategy to never ever answer ‘rant’ posts, because they know they might drawn unwanted (bad) attention. However messing with core gameplay is not something to take lightly. Not something to sneak under the players keyboards. You talk about it. You think about it. You think more about it. You take suggestions into account. You ignored all of it and destroyed the gameplay of guardian. (again balance may be better, but balance alone is not the decisive factor to make changes like this, instead a well weighted decision between fun – balance and smoothness is what should lead to a decision).
Thid point. No pve and pvp split. Epic fail. Especially with how the mobs work. The mobs right now are overpowered (not field mobs, but Orr/heavy aoe/dungeon mobs) are overpowered to people with mediocre/good gear. Only exotic/rare geared people with full sigil/ring set have a decent chance/gameplay/fun. (Warrior being exception because to overpowered – or other classes underpowered).
Guild wars 2 is a GREAT idea. But your destroying it peace by peace. It seems now the most ppl bought it already, you are not afraid of mistakes and just smash the ‘change profession’ decisions without fear of retribution. I hate ‘pay fee to play mmo’s. But maybe guild wars 2 should have one too. Then you guys will instantly feel a lot of player quit when you keep acting like this and suddenly rewind bad decisions.
I know you wont read/listen to this Arenanet but please stop this nonsense updates. Nerf underpowered classes even more? (ele/mesmer/necro). Fail. Prioritize Pvp over Pve (balance) Fail. Make Core game elements useless, so people die fast and need to quickly pay a lot of repair money? (Dodge is broken against some Orr/dungeon enemies, they slash (melee, not aoe) right tru a dodge roll – making your only defense useless, and auto-die/loose 2 silver repair cost). Fail. Do i need to go on? The only reason i’m here is because gw1 was such masterpiece (not perfect but pretty close). Gw2 has the potential.
But face one fact. You wanted weapon binded skills. Ok i can live with it. You wanted more active gameplay. Ok i even like this. Now you nerf weapons into the ground and increase cool down? No way. You kill the fun and fast gameplay. You kill the reliability in very fast monster spawning area’’s (dungeons, events). The very precious thing that makes guildwars 2 so much fun is getting beaten in the ground bit by bit.
The weapon system YOU ARENANET introduced, demands active gameplay as compensation for the ‘not so diverse’ skill. It’s fragile against any form of nerfs. Especially cooldown nerfs. Exactly what you are doing to mesmer/guardian and others right now. A big mistake i soon hope to stop. STOP FOCUSING ON PVP.
There will always be an underdog in pvp. (Look at warrior gw1 or paragon). Face it accept it (arenanet). Or split pvp/pve skillsets. Then you might get close to perfect balance. But you can’t have both.
Rant over. And guess what Arenanet will ignore it. (All pages here have zero Arenanet responses, hurts my feelings, where is the beta ‘enthousiasm’. Every dev in every topic answering/listening. I want it back.

A lot of personal story fight Frustrated me to madness (anet devs, take a deep breath, think logical what feelings a game is supposed to give a player, and compared if to my feeling. If you see what’s wrong, please do something about it). You get ambushed, without warning by 6+ mobs, that can two shot you. You dodge like madness, you time like madness, you move like madness so you MAYBE can survive that fight. What’s the fun of this Anet? I understand dodge system, and I started liking it. But making are ONLY way to really mitigate damate in Orr useless (the mobs even damage me in the middle of a dodge role, and it wanst an aoe, just a normal melee attack), then how must we survive? What’s the holy grail you guys seem to think that exists, but we players dont know about?
This mission made me give up on story mode. My favorite part of guild wars 1 (story mode). I love making new characters just to replay the nice story. In guild wars 2 I Despice the story mode combat. Can you believe that for a game that’s supposed to be revolutionary? Challenge is nice, but making essential game mechanics useless/bugged/glitched so the players die even more easy is crazy anoying.
The biggest source of my frustration is mobs are to smart. Mobs can do almost EVERYTHING. Use environment to safe yourself? Fail, the mobs outsmart you, not needing even jumping to get to your nice kiting position. You dodge? Monster: ‘sorry but that’s not gonna work, I’ll just hit you in the middle of your dodge rol’. Or Spectral Orr weapons… You slowly approach, slowly try to pull them, afraid of the nightmare starting. Suddenly a huge barrage wave, with 3-5 arrows, killing you. If you dont double evade 0,5 sec after they start it you are dead before the battle started, yay!
Or this The maximum amount of stunbreakers is 3 but then your build is not balanced. Same for Condition removal. poison is incredible deadly, and hard to remove. If you finally use your precious condition removal, wich long cooldown, they restack 40 second of poison on you, nice right? And then on top of it you have to survive 12 sec cool down stuns. You can avoid/break the first ones maybe, but then you are fully at the mercy of a monster without a SINGLE tool to outsmart the monster. Lame.
Solo gameplay, downed is useless. There were times I was downed for 5 minutes, trying very very very very hard to get up. But every single time a SINGLE MONSTER HIT stops the healing, puts ALL OTHER SKILLS on cool down, makes you loose quickly more health, and you have to respond fast with the heal before you die, but then right when you think yay I might get up, OUCH another single LOUSY HIT, but the lousy hit is enough to kill you.
Basically downed = only chance to survive is when monster have 1-2% hp. Downed skill 1 does WAAAY to few damage (mesmer). The moment a mob has you tagged and has more then 5% hp there is simply NO WAY to get up again. You can’t. It’s totally useless. You are fully defeated the moment they hit you once in downed. Another very frustrating part of the game.
This mission is the best and most extreme example of this frustration battles/overpowered monsters. Again I like challenges, I think dungeons are ok with their difficulty level. But Orr monsters (Especially groups) and the Eye of zaitan in this mission are way to powerfull.
