As we played with the stealth changed mentioned in the SotG, we recognized that in conjunction with the change to culling this was an unpredictable change to make. We also felt that it was too big of a hit to these stealth professions, so we ended up pulling that change in favor of just increasing revealed duration by 1 second.

I’m a bit confused.

Problem: some thieves are abusing game mechanics by spamming CnD, remaining, for all intents and purposes, permastealthed.

Proposed Solution: apply reveal to ALL exits of stealth

Chosen Solution: Make life more difficult for ALL thieves upon receiving Reveal, something that CnD chainers can avoid receiving.

Sorry, thieves with actual skill. You seem to have taken a bullet for the other thieves who need to learn how to properly play the game. This sucks for you, as well as all non-thieves who will now need to continue putting up with CnD spammers…

The only thing I’ve yet to see someone mention in regards to this change (and maybe I’ve just missed it) is now stealth is the only positive “buff” style effect that carries a negative consequence when applied automatically/through no action of the player.

Forgive me if I’m missing something here, but unless I’m mistaken, all “revealed” does is prevent immediate re-application of the buff that initiates it.

If I have a cake, and then I eat it, I would no longer have a cake, at least not until I make another one. Now, if the cake were to have been poisoned or drugged, or if it gave me diabetes, that would suck. But in this case, it does none of those things. I just don’t have a cake anymore. You can’t eat your cake and have it too.

Revealed may technically be a “debuff”, but it functions like a cooldown. Yes, a cooldown. Thieves don’t have to deal with nearly as many cooldowns as the rest of us, but you surely understand how it works. After you exit stealth, you need to wait a couple seconds to be able to use it again. And you can still prolong stealth by stacking duration- you can keep eating cake as long as you have it. But once you exit stealth, either by wearing it out or attacking, you need to wait a meager 3 seconds. Sorry.

Thieves will have to L2P now. This is a good thing. Likely this will open up the thief class to some buffs in the near future.
Good thieves will continue to be good, and bad thieves (who were only good because of culling and chaining stealth) will continue to be bad.

Indeed. I wish no ill will to the good men and women who run thief and fight skillfully.

Those of you who abused the system, however, are about to come face-to-face with a cold, cruel world. A world where you can’t slip silently up to a group alone, deal 10k, and slip out, only appearing for a split second. You’ll come crashing down to what feels like torment to you, and realize that for the rest of us it’s called “actually playing the game”- you’ll find that our recreation is your hell once your exploits are stopped.

FT mob swarms, use grenade barrage if you’re too far away and need to tag a group before other players kill them. if you need to focus a particular target, get smaller mobs between you & target, then use rifle- shots pierce and will still hit multiple. COmbine this with MF and some good spots in Orr and you’ll rake it in.

Avoidance of trouble in PvE is not that difficult- even without stealth. Takes practice, in particular, practice without using a crutch stealth. Run laps of the cursed shore without stealth a few times, then describe how hard it is to avoid PvE trouble when you have stealth on you.

tl;dr: Those who have trouble avoiding trouble in PvE despite being able to use stealth, may need to learn 2 play.

All in all, exactly what the theif needed. ANet hit the nail on the head- doing massive burst whilst only appearing for a fraction of a second is not balanced, nor is having the highest burst DPS, highest mobility, and ability to stealth for 90% of the time all in one class.

Theif still has much more than, say, tf2 spy- where the high mobility was sequestered to a separate class (scout), and one had to wait through a reveal exiting stealth before they could attack at all.

All said though, this should bring better balance to the game. If it does indeed turn out to be overkill, I’m sure ANet will react acordingly.
