Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

I was really hoping that the feature pack would announce the end of hobosacks, too…

Same, it would be such a simple thing to add in. Instead they added a looting system which is going to hurt us significantly when it comes to loot value, seeing as we wear leather and use no valuable weapons.

Hopefully they can at least add a 600-gem “Endless Lipstick Tonic” to the store so we engies can at least make ourselves look pretty before we bend over to take the upcoming patch.

Everyone’s freaked out about the “buy more gold” button. Who knows, maybe it will be a good thing- might do the conversion for you automatically.

I just hope they revamp the “trade gold for gems” tab so I can select how many gems I need and have it calculate the minimum gold price, rather than fiddle endlessly with the gsc boxes trying to get the lowest payment for the exact gems I need while the price of gems is dynamically changing.

As a Mesmer, you can spam clones, making an overwhelming number of targets which do a small amount of damage and are indistinguishable from the mesmer, and can be shattered to cause burst, and nobody blinks an eye.

As an Engineer, you can drop a crate once every two minutes, which creates several targets which are clearly not engineers, do LESS damage, go down easily, and can’t be detonated like real turrets, and everyone loses their minds.

Today we got some UI shuffling for minis and finishers… Meh. Not breaking anything afaik, but underwhelming.

And the other announcements this week are “collections” and “trading”. They’ve already announced some small crafting changes, so maybe there will be other UI changes to collections tab. Trading will be AT BEST 1:1 secure trading and changes to the TP (armor type filter, etc).

So with that, we have an end to the feature pack. Lets run down the features again, shall we?

The Good:

Short 4-week WvW tourney. Pretty cool.

Account-bound color-coded commander tags. Ok I guess.

Balance changes- some good, some bad.

Fixing mega servers- right on.

No more dungeon owners- no more d/c restarts.

Crafting UI improvements.

MAYBE trading post improvements.

The Meh:

UI shuffles that don’t do much.

Leveling weapons.

Yet another set of back pieces.

Another wvw trap no one will use.

The Bad:

Balance changes (again, some good, some bad).

New leveling system nobody asked for- no downed state until level 5? Really?

Profession loot- more useable loot is a GOOD goal, but this is not the way. (All classes are equal, but some are more equal than others…)

And let’s not forget we’re not getting:

-fixes to the precursor market (precursor crafting)

-removal of hobo sacks

-the SAB (just turn it back on as-is!)

-a real fix to cloth prices

-various camera fixes and/or first person

Overall, the update is more good than bad, but probably not 3-week-announcement worthy. That said, these next 2 days may hold surprises…

I get the need to give the player useable gear, but there’s a way that doesn’t punish classes with non-valuable gear- they already did it with ascended weapon drops and pvp dungeon rewards- they just need to implement a version into the loot table.

Add to the loot table for each region a chance to drop a weapon or armor chest with a skin pertinent to that region. Have it decide the stat combo and rarity based on the loot seed, but be the player character’s current level. When the player opens the chest, they can PICK the weapon type or armor piece. IE while tooling around The Iron Marches as a level 80 one might find a yellow “Assassin’s Steam Weapon Chest” containing a steam weapon of the player’s choice in yellow rarity with assassin’s stats at level 80.

Leveling players can not just get something they “could” use, but exactly the weapon or armor piece that needs replacing, and players who don’t need anything new for that particular character can get the more valuable item to salvage or throw in the forge. Plus, this would solve the market discrepency much more efficiently then “more people would play casters”.

SAB: Moto Vendor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Piogre.2164

I heard from a friend that Anet said they weren’t planning on bringing Super Adventure Box back for a while because it didn’t fit in with their living story plans.

That’s all fine and good, but I’ve literally been holding on to Super Adventure Box tokens for the past 11 months waiting for Moto to come back so I can buy his patterns and make the Storm Wizard/Toad King weapon skins. Now that he’s not coming back for what we can assume is a long while, can we please just get someone selling the Moto’s [Weapon] Design? I have 11 or so SETS of tokens I just want to use.

I know I’ve posted about this a couple times, but I’ve not gotten a response. It’s getting a tad frustrating not being able to spend the items I’ve spent so much time getting.

Unfortunately Anet doesn’t seem to want to touch the SAB right now because “libbing stowy is rly gud” and they don’t want to “interrupt the narrative”. Meanwhile I sit, woefully rubbing my thumb over my slightly tarnished infinite continue coin, remembering the good times, while the libbing stowy marches on.

I didn’t learn the following about downed until I was about level 5.

Defeating an enemy rallies you
*A player defeating an enemy you touched rallies you
*any of the downed state tooltips. The macabre tone change distracts you from reading your options, and I pretty much had to read the wiki since I didn’t feel like downing just to read the flavor text. armor repairs cost copper/silver.)

I didn’t understand vengeance fully until I saw the trait.

you don’t really need the wiki. you kind of… just understand if you get knocked on your kitten enough times.

Downed underwater though…

Still barely understand it. Need more downbait underwater, Anet.
…less sharks though

What if they put the skill descriptions in the “weapon skills” panel with all the other weapon skill descriptions, so you can look them up easily at any time?

Where’s our SAB?? This thread has more views than most of the stickies, does it not warrant a response as to why the already created and widely beloved SAB hasn’t been reenabled?

There are a couple threads on the engineer forum, over a year old, still bumped to the front page to this day they involve pretty simple stuff that engies have wanted fixed since launch- legendary effects on their kits, and the ability to hide hobosacks. Each has a red patch from early on in the post, with some platitude or another. Neither has been addressed in any way since. Their post/view counts are 387/48810 and 1058/79162, respectively. Yes, that one on hobosacks has over a thousand posts on it, and aside from a dev “yes, coming soon” ages ago, has not been addressed.

If it buffs my cloth drops I’ll be very grateful! I mostly play light armour classes >_>

But that’s unfair to those who do not like to play the light armor classes.

All that has been said is that at level 80 the change is not noticeable. That does not mean the change is the same for level 2.

75% at level 2. And 0.05% at level 80.

How is it not fair? Compare the price of leather or metal ascended armor (full set) with a light armor set.

I main an engie, which is fully maxed. I am working on gearing my other classes, but I still play on my engie half the time. I’m inclined to think I’m not the only player who works toward gearing alts when playing their main.

Also, leather and metal armor still requires a HUGE amount of cloth, which is part of the reason that stuff is so expensive. Yes, they need to work on cloth being so expensive, but this is not the way.

Oh, the sound of kitten farmers. Your cheap kitten is ruining the game for new players and people who want to play the game (and since you don’t support the game with money or rising the gold to gems ratio, you’re also ruining the game). Deal with it.

And what I do care about killing mobs without drops or exp? BECAUSE I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME! No just rush, finish and get rewards.

And obviously, you can’t possibly comprehend how farmers ruin other players experience. After all, selfish players only care about themselves.

so what about the people that farm keys with sword warriors and no tweaks? you know, the "i don’t want to pay more just to farm more easily" crowd, like me? we kill mobs just as fast as you.

Did I said something about warriors? No. Still, you aren’t supporting the game but well, ArenaNet works for free I guess.

I supported the game when I paid 80$ for it on release, I supported the game by getting a friend or two to buy a copy. I will support the game by buying an expansion if that ever happens. I have never supported the game by paying real money for gems, and I never will. Don’t try to tell people that they don’t support the game if they dont buy gems, if they own the game they support it.

How dare those awful key farmers kill the earth elemental too fast, how dare they! FYI enemies in the Shaemoor instance don’t drop loot.

Heck I do buy gems when Anet does things I support. I have done this for a while- dump a small amount of cash to support actions by the dev’s that I think are worth paying for.

And yet, I also farm keys. I find it amusing that daimasei considers key runs "not playing the game" given how much I’ve evolved my optimized route. They’ve probably never felt the thrill that comes with doing speed running in games before.

And re: discussion on tp flippers, they actually keep prices consistent. They reduce the gaps between sell- and buy- prices, and put out so many buy orders for 60+ rares and exos (for mass salvage and/or resale) that the average player who gets one at random as a drop can always depend on someone having placed a reasonably good buy offer on that rare in particular.

tl;dr
Drop rates are getting nerfed but we are being told they are not.

Well, drops are getting nerfed for the likes of me; my engie is fully maxxed and I have no plans to add anything else to him, but I still play him more than half the time because I enjoy playing engie. I get the shaft, casters get a little boost.

Well, I foresee a couple possibilities.

1: They don’t bring in the (stupid kittening) system of not giving you any personal story until level 10.

2: They do bring in the above system.

In case 1, key runs may be threatened. The end of the first story arc may no longer reward a key (since they’re changing the rewards), and depending on how they do the weapon-skill-by-level, we’ll probably not have the #3 skills on GS and staff to speed stuff up.

In case 2, key runs will change drastically. Firstly, people will have to choose between using level tomes on their leveling alts or their grinders. Leveling grinders will probably be like the following:

-do human intro mission
-run up into DR, use portal to LA, then complete Rata sum, Grove, and another (black citadel? Hoelbrak?) for either trans charge or rare chance of key, hit a few tactical easy-to-do hearts, skill points and waypoints in one starting zone (will eventually be optimized) to reach level 10.

At this preliminary look, Elementalist seems to be the best choice, BUT when I get home after classes I can check the tp and compare the actual base prices of every weapon and make a more educated decision.

Went through and took down the starting selling price for rares on the TP. Compiled results:

axe 43

Hammer 48

longbow 44

dagger 66

focus 40

GS 79

pistol 43

scepter 41

spear 41

speargun 41

staff 65

sword 71

shortbow 47

torch 40

trident 40

warhorn 40

God tier cloth wearers:

Mes: Greatsword 79, staff 65, scepter 41, sword 71, focus 40, pistol 43, torch 40, spear 41, trident 40 /9 weapon types = 51.1 silver average (optimal class)

Ele: staff 65, scepter 41, dagger 66, focus 40, trident 40 /5 = 50.4 silver average (close second)

Necro: Staff 65, Scepter 41, axe 43, dagger 66, focus 40, warhorn 40, spear 41, trident 40 /8 weapon types = 47 silver average

Mid-tier metal wearers:

Guard: hammer 48, greatsword 79, staff 65, mace 40, scepter 41, sword 71, focus 40, shield 41, torch 40, spear 41, trident 40 /11 weapon types = 49.6 silver average

War: Hammer 48, Greatsword 79, Longbow 44, Rifle 41, Axe 43, sword 71, mace 40, shield 41, warhorn 40, speargun 41, spear 41 /11 weapon types = 48.1 silver average

Dirt-tier leather wearers:

Thief: dagger 66, shortbow 47, pistol 43, sword 71, spear 41, speargun 41 /6 = 51.5 silver average (congrats thief, you’re the best of the worst)

Ranger: greatsword 79, longbow 44, shortbow 47, sword 71, axe 43, dagger 66, torch 40, warhorn 40, speargun 41, spear 41 /10 = 51.2

Engie: Rifle 41, pistol 43, shield 41, speargun 41 /4 weapon types = 41.5 silver average (Engie gets it in the shorts once again)

Worth noting that these are based on the starting selling prices of the hour, so not entirely precise. It also makes the assumption that exotics will scale up the same in value.

TL;DR: After patch, best class to farm with will be Mesmers and Elementalists, meanwhile Engie is by far the worst off (what else is new).

I main an engineer. At least half of my play is on either my main or one of my alt engies. Exactly what have I got to look forward to here? Rifles, pistols, and shields aren’t “high-value” rares, like hammers, swords, greatswords, staves, and daggers, and salvaging my profession’s armor yields cheap-as-dirt leather.

Not to mention, just for kittens and giggles, they decided to add more back pieces that get obstructed by my profession’s main mechanic, once again ignoring 2-year-old threads on our forum asking for simple changes to that and to legendary effects for our profession.

Regarding first-person

I understand that the dev’s think it will hurt combat. I get that. I contend that it is a preference, and would depend on playstyle. There are several bits of combat where fpm would be more useful:

-turning around. Currently, turning around to face an enemy is a pain- you either must use forward movement (interfering with any other movement) or use A/D which takes a long time. FPM makes turning easy.

-Easy to determine line-of-sight. Projectiles, especially ground-target projectiles, can be more easily aimed when we can see what our character sees.

Beyond that, FPM is ideal for:

-jumping puzzles

-taking screenshots

-viewing map objects up close

-(debatably) rp

Please, please make it an option.

Alright so the new meta class is Mesmer

That way you get the two most valuable items (greatswords and cloths)

anyone know a mesmer farming guide? ;3

much better is necro

very easy to farm with necro and you get cloth + dagger + staff

farming with a mesmer is horrible^^

You get Greatswords as a Mesmer though.

Of the three classes with silk outfits:

Mesmer has 9 weapons.

Necromancer has 8 weapons.

Elementalist has 5 weapons.

If we consider that the following are high-value weapons (the rares are worth 50+ silver, not 30something): Great sword, sword, staff, Daggar:

Mesmer has 3/9 or 33.33% of its weapons high-value.

Necro has 2/8 or 25% of its weapons high-value.

Elementalist has 2/5 or 40% of its weapons high-value.

At this preliminary look, Elementalist seems to be the best choice, BUT when I get home after classes I can check the tp and compare the actual base prices of every weapon and make a more educated decision.

-Introduce a quick-sell button in the tp in the “sell items” menu- a button next to each item that automatically sells the stack to the highest bidder(s). And fix the bug that occurs when you sell too many things at once.

-Ability to request a “bank statement” while out and about, which lets you view your bank for free (or for a very small fee) but you can’t withdraw or deposit.

-Remove hobo sacks or make an option to hide them, and make legendary effects persist when carrying bundles (kits, summoned weps, environmental weps, etc).

It does seem to say (in a non-committal sort of way) that this will be a feature for leveling players. Hopefully this is the case, and it switches back to the old system at level 80. I do like the idea of getting more useable drops for my alts.

hold on to rare and exotic axes you get, and hold on separately to other rare and exotic weapons you get (excluding any that can be sold for well above the normal rare/exotic weapon price, typically daggars hammers and greatswords, along with unique exo skins- sell those).

when you get 4 rare or 4 exotic axes, dump in the forge. Don’t bother buying rare or exo axes for this, use only what you get in drops. Do the same when you get 3 rare or 3 exo other weapons, and throw in a mystic forge stone. if the result is really valuable, sell, otherwise, but back into the bank as a start on your next forging. meanwhile, again, don’t dump any gold into his; use only your drops. save your gold (or invest in t6 mats, as others have said). When you have enough to straight-up buy the prec, do that.

you can still get plenty of ectos from salvaging your rare/exo armor drops.

Is the RNG system truthly random?

I have a bad seed and would pay to be re-seeded… I almost bought a second account just for this, but decided against it since i have put so much time and money into my current account. It would just be nice to get more drops. When you see ppl getting ascended chests all the time in WvW and PvE, it would be nice to know what those are. Although, I have gotten a few Exterminator’s, Guild Defender’s, and Truth’s…

I should point something out here.

Following a drop you get, you have a large variety of possibilities for what you get next. There is a small chance you will get the same thing, even if that thing is a green. But I can almost guarantee that your chance of getting an exotic (any exotic) is less likely- and yet, people get exotics all the time. The thing to remember here is that this chance of getting the same thing you just got, while small, is re-rolled countless times during a single play session, just like the chance of getting an exotic. And yet, when you do get a repeat, you remember it.

I’m not saying there is no issue with the RNG- I’ve heard a lot of (unverified) stuff about some accounts having statistically better chances of forge precursors. I’m just saying that your example of a repeat drop is not necessarily evidence for this.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

My suggestions for distinct weapon objects:
Larger wrench for Tool Kit, with gear shield on off-hand.
Dual-wield bomb casks for Bomb Kit; possibly with a fun little ‘lit fuse’ animation in combat.
Two-handed, big grenade launcher for Grenade Kit; also makes it less ‘why can I throw those farther than I can shoot.’
Carried bandages and stimulants for Med Kit.
Flamethrower and Elixir Gun both have distinct weapons already.

This would be fantastic- I’d love to wield a grenade launcher.

Using the gear shield skill would need to have the magnetic shield animation, now that it’s always out with the kit though.

Piogre.2164

I vote community-submitted and community-voted topics. There are several things which many in the community want, which the devs might skip over if they chose, due to focusing elsewhere.

Stuff like more WvW support, SAB, engineer hobosacks, precursor crafting…

Pretty irritating that Anet silences community demand for the SAB by merging the many threads on the topic all into one thread, which they can then safely ignore.

Come on, Anet, if you have so many threads on this topic that you have to close a bunch and merge into one topic, doesn’t that merit at least one red post somewhere in the thread, addressing the issue?

Not that I want them to, but I’d be fine with that. I bought the coin, I’d buy the admission. That’s content worth paying for.

So would I, and several friends of mine. If they put a Golden Continue Coin (or whatever) in the gem shop that granted permanent access to the existing levels, I’d buy it.

I would love to see a “Gift of the SAB” which, when used, places a smaller version of the SAB in the player’s home instance, (putting more content in home at the same time), accessible at any time (and of course make moto vendor active permanently).

Interestingly enough not many people did seem to miss SAB until the interview yesterday, and yet now it seems like it is the most missed thing ever released in the game.

We all had hope it would be coming back this year (In september, right when it came out last year). Now we’ve been told that the devs don’t know how likely it is that it even WILL come back.

I read somewhere there will be a break after dragon’s reach part 2- probably going to be feature patch, but maybe SAB will come too? It would be about a year after the last installment.

Seconded, seconded, and seconded.

Just want to note (and it’s been said before) that grenade kit is a pain in the kitten to use- would be very nice if skill 1 were semi-auto-attack IE after throwing a grenade skill, when in combat, it queued another skill #1 by default, so I could click to throw while continuing movement, instead of having to spam 1-click-1-click while also using my WASD movement (I only have so many fingers on my left hand).

Rifle/Pistols As Slot Skill

in Engineer

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

I’ve always thought it would be nice for engie to just be able to swap out offhand weapons. (obviously such a change would have to come with the addition of more weapons for engie/every class)- have a swap slot which holds only an offhand, pistol or shield (or daggar, mace, torch pls). If you’re using the rifle (or hammer pls) you can throw a shield in the slot which you can’t swap to but still displays on your back, purely a cosmetic item.

Stealth condi-bombs. Good lord

is doable on an engineer, is lots of fun

I’ve done this a couple times. Plenty of blasts, plenty of conditions. That said, you pretty much have one shot to get them done properly as you have only one reliable smoke field. Dump your blasts on that, then blow your conditions, and if you do it right, there’s little they can do. Do it wrong, and you’re left with little sustain, and also no healing if you used your heal turret for a blast.

Rifle for Thieves

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Like most rifle suggestions, it is exactly the sort of weapon that is no fun to play against.

Exactly, for a thief to have an auto attack which ramps UP damage with higher range is silly. I’d love to see the thief get a melee staff, axe, or even offhand sword. But thief rifle would be more gamebreaking than some… existing thief mechanics.

Accelerant-Packed Turrets

personally i think you should be able to just tip over turrets like in portal and call it a day

also please make the turrets adorable like in portal

makes them harder to hate at least

Fine, but the turrets in portal did significant damage, fired rapidly, and applied pushback. That’s a deal I’d gladly make, even if you also include the directional limitations.

Will (SAB) be permanent this time?

in Living World

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

I think that, unless the W3 release is nearing completion, they should have brought back the existing two worlds with the festival- more on the theme of “raising morale”- but if it’s nearing a W3 release then I get why they waited

I’d totally understand the W3 release being temporary, but I hope W4 (the last one) will be permanent, or if not globally permanent, giving a meta-reward that places an SAB in your home instance.

Female LOVE!

in Asura

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Dear Dev’s , please add some female skins for armor almost every available armour in the game for asurans is based off the male armor model, which leave bare chest and other bad choices for us female loving folks. Other classes all have a male and female variation but asuran is left out. These cute lil folks need more options, I hate having only male choice when it comes to armor. This seems like a lazy option from the cosmetic dev team, put them to work on behalf of all the females out there.

They literally can’t do this without the game being banned in several places. Adult female Asuras don’t have developed breasts, so despite the fact that no Asuras even have nipples, by the rules of several rating agencies they are considered to have children’s bodies. Therefore, to put the female armor on them (which is pretty darn sexualized) would get the game banned in many places for sexualization of children’s bodies. This is also why female asura have the big one-piece when wearing diving goggles, instead of a bikini.
