I was a single vista in green EB keep away from world completion, and couldn’t remember the last time our server had been green, and jq showed no signs of not being green anytime soon. Saved up around 70 gold to transfer to HoD and back. Our server dominated the week I was gone, took all of EB, and when I got back, we were green. 70 gold down the kitten toilet.

Make stealth last longer by default by tying it to initiative instead of getting a few seconds from skills. Imagine 1 ini = 1 second of stealth, counting down. Cnd would have a reduced ini cost, but not grant ini for the stealthing. Sr would stealth the player, and grant 3 ini per second to stealthed players in the ring when active. It’s. goes on…

Then make stealth flicker-on-hit and make burning, poison, etc particle effects visible if you’re suffering those conditions.

I just want to be able to make a character left- handed. My Theif an Mesmer are characters I created with left-handedness as an intended trait, so it’s annoying that they wield two-handed weapons righty and hold main-hand in the right.

Elementalist would get great sword and a torch, and the fire particle effect on the torch changes to mist/lightning/dust effect for water/air/earth attunements. Elementalist could have two weapon sets, and assign each attunement to one Of them out of combat. Water attunement may also be assigned the trident for use on land. Ele can jump to the next available attunement using the weapon swap key.

Engineer gets torch and dagger for offhand, and gets a second offhand slot for swap when using pistol/X (as a bonus cosmetic, using the rifle, engine can put a shield in the bonus offhand slot to wear on his back for cosmetic purposes.

Theif gets staff an uses it as a quarterstaff for melee with magical effects. Thief gets a third swap slot which can only hold a two-handed (sb or staff) and can jump through the three sets with wep-swap or use f2, f3, f4 to swap, similar to Ele attunement.

Why do we?

exactly, engineers have too much range and mobility to have a skill that punishes movement- for that matter, torment should not have been given to thieves and mesmers. Perhaps giving torment to necros and guardians would have been a better choice

Rolled a thief, went in wvw, died incredibly few times.

I’m pretty bad at combat overall, and on my other characters had been between ok to not so great

But bringing in my thief, I discovered that I could harass small groups until they had no choice but to respond, then effortlessly escape when they did try to respond.

Someone of my (low) skill level should not be able to accomplish this. Sorry, but the “Roll a thief” argument is bogus, thanks for playing.

the new patch made it so going underneath rata sum (by jumping off the side) automatically ports you there, to prevent people from getting to the polymock arenas I guess, but the incubation lab is giving a false positive for underneath-the-city and is automatically porting to the jail.

Anet, this is a game-breaking issue.

No, but I think it would be fair for the chests to contain a guaranteed rare like the boss chests, of which you can get more than 15 a day through grinding- what’s the practical limit to rank chests per day anyways? If it’s too high then getting more than 10 in a day could result in adding the chests to a backlog like the pre-update chests, to make the rares time-gated like the boss chest rares

I’ve considered it somewhat BS that people do this in the JP, but I see why it is allowed. I’ve always thought the puzzle would work better as an armistice zone, in which players can challenge each other to duels, talk to each other etc, but otherwise do the JP alongside each other without threat of being ambushed/camped. However, that is currently not how the JP is set up, and if it’s made as a pvp puzzle, it will work like one.

That said, I will still choose to kitten about one certain spot- not the beginning, but the chandelier room, right after the dark room. if a group of even just two or three is alone atop the puzzle, they can sit at the top of this room virtually indefinitely, with no viable way fro even a much larger group to reach them (this section is nearly impossible if in combat, as combat slows you down). This one spot is, in my opinion, poor design for a pvp zone, completely shutting off possibility of breaking through until the ones at the top get bored. This is NOT acceptable pvp, like most other interactions on the puzzle- this is griefing, in spirit if not in name. Even the stealth fountains, which are supposed to allow players to avoid pvp, don’t help here as taking a torch to get through the dark room ends stealth with no fountain after.

This could be fixed, anet. Put a fountain at the end of the dark room, and change the entrance to the chandelier room so that you can’t re-exit backwards to re-enter the dark room.

Why is everyone complaining about getting greens?

Well for one thing one of the devs implied that either we would get rares or at least a good chance of rares.

Out of four chests today I have gotten two rares. Were you really expecting some kind of hand out? The chance of getting rares from these chests appears to be about the same as pve ones. (excluding the dragon chests) That seems fair.

I don’t care much about the landing animation, but with rifled barrels trait the jump no longer clears gaps like it used to, instead sliding downward with the lay of the terrain- not sure if this is intended (I really hope it’s not; I loved that capability) but it still works fine without the trait (albeit shorter range)- I really hope this gets fixed as I normally run with ranged rifle and don’t want to have to give it up to get my working gap clearance.

skill 4: overcharged shot: No profession deserve self knock that screws you up. There is no reason for self knock.

I have no issue with knocking myself down, and in fact I use it to my advantage to back out of red rings in dungeons quite often. I only wish it were implemented as a leap rather than a knockdown, as I have many times unwittingly picked up area stability from a guardian in the group, causing me to be immune to my own evasion tactic, leaving me to die in the AOE agony target

What do you gain from towers and keeps? Rewards? No.

normally, no, not many rewards from that. But sometimes, if the match is pretty much determined 24 hours before the reset, you get the “karma train” zergs which run around capturing everything and never defending.

PvP in a PvP area is not griefing.
it is called playing the game as it is intended.

achievements are not entitlements.

The issue is that a large amount of PvE’ers etner attempting to get a PvE achievement. Knowing this, players will sit (having already finished the puzzle themselves) WILL SIT at the top of the arena or in other areas and ambush players. They don’t put in effort. They literally sit and farm people because they can’t get their badges in a fair fight, or perhaps just like to make other people’s lives miserable. If this is intended play, then Anet is more sadistic than I previously thought.

I’ve done the puzzle several times, and consider it one of the best puzzles in the game, but checked it today and nearly did a spit-take at all the groups camping various portions. Most people will not be fortunate enough to find a friendly mesmer already at the top, like I did. This is really silly. I’ve always advocated to make the JP an armistice zone, but now I think at least for the duration of the event it should be done without question

Anet – We beg you to stop attempting to balance the entire game around spvp. If the leaked patch notes are any evidence, it’s clear that you only care about class balance within spvp, even at the expense of wvw. To wit: ranger pets are op in spvp. they are badly bugged in wvw. In fact they are laughable. Why are you nerfing ranger pets if not for spvp? Thieves need help in spvp. They don’t in wvw, at least for 1v1 fights. Yet you continue to pigeon hole them into 1v1 builds, making them even more hated.

I hate to tell you, but as it stands, this game is not a popular e-sport, and I doubt it ever will be. wvw is unique and draws many more players. Spend your time fixing wvw and stop breaking it for spvp balance.

You can just equip your longbow and enjoy your 1200 or 1500 range, so just stop kittenting.
Thieves just have nothing to do on 1200 range, and all skill with 1200 (like useless scorpion wire) have a stupid path with full obstacle or broken animation.

Players need to be able to either a) Track thieves in stealth by using some sort of debuff that makes them slightly more visible or b) Be able to debuff a thief so he cannot stealth for 10 seconds.

preventing stealth would be obnoxious in the other direction, but the first idea is spot on. I’ve been saying over and over, have flicker-on-hit and/or retain visible condition particle effects (like burning) when stealthed so the thief can be tracked (albeit not targeted)

The perma stealth isn’t the problem. The problem is there’s one counter and it sucks.

AOE doesn’t reveal them, damage doesn’t reveal them. A 10 honor badge joke of an item does – and it barely works.

Give some options outside of permastealth that output high damage – perhaps lots of blinks/teleports. Don’t allow them to finish off downed state players in stealth.

Giving them other options won’t do much if, as you’ve already stated, permastealth has no viable counter.

The solution is to make it possible to in some way counter stealth itself, like flicker-on-hit, retaining condition particle effects, etc

Though this would only create other problems- the best thing to do in this situation is for Anet to redesign stealth from the bottom up. There is no way to balance it properly as a boon (at least not on thief)- it should be a different type of mechanic. (Or be made thief’s special ability, separated from boon-stealth that other classes would keep)

The reason that the loot bags cant be put in your inventory as ‘loot bags’ is because of the varying level of opponent the player is killing and the variable level of the player doing the killing. Loot has to be determined on kill so they cant just throw in a stackable item that will work for all players of all levels. If they were to do that they would have to put in 79*79 bag types or 6241 bag items.

Soulbind them, and this problem all but goes away

Badges would be separated from loot sacks, and just add directly to inventory (that is if they’re not changed into an account -wide currency like they should be)

Loot sack (soulbound)- chance of this being added to inventory is equal chance of a loot bag dropping on the ground in previous system, minus a certain amount to adjust to badges being separated. when opened, contains loot appropriate for the character opening it (since soulbound, this is the character who got the kill in the first place), anything that would normally be found in a bag on the ground, besides badges

Wooden chest (soulbound)- chance of this being added to inventory is same chance of wooden chest being dropped to the ground. Upon opening, contains an item of rare quality appropriate to character opening (character who got the kill)- anything that would be found in wooden chest found on the ground

And same as above for steel chest, except exotic.

No more losing loot because of ambush, no more spamming F causing you to pick up banners/turrets or man seige etc, and since it all stacks in your inventory, you can go all night without wasting your time (and the time of everyone else in your group and in the queue) running to the vendor between battles

The only way I can forsee this being abused is that someone might save ALL their loot sacks on a character until the character hits 80, but if they have that amount of inhuman patience, let them reap the reward of that investment.

I don’t see why we can’t have a 100% rare from that chest. PvE players get 100% rares from their world boss chests which take little to no effort (and have a pre chance). It’s literally show up, press 1, afk, come back to guaranteed rare loot. -.-

Would such food become popular in WvW considering you would have give up using other types of food and only a tiny minority of enemies use stealth?

I would absolutely use this food. I would say probably best balanced is see a stealthed outline (the shimmering silhouette the thief sees on his screen) and even maybe not target it, but be able to see it to hit with AOE’s and follow.

I’d pay closer to 5 or 10 badges for 30 minutes of this food

of course there are alternative ways the food can affect stealthed players- like instead of passively seeing stealthed units, causing 1second flicker on hitting a stealthed unit, during which point an outline and nametag pop up for 1 second

sounds legit, I’m kinda disappointed tho, we got decent updates but necros…. I’m glad they got an update but every buff screams out, “skrew you engi”. A 9s+ wall of fear, our burning (4s on a 10s cd) and they got fear…

it will be impossible for engi’s to 1v1 necros now or anyone without stability or instant full condi removal.

The necro wall do not stop bullets, and we have plenty of those.

leave the predator model out when using elixir gun and flamethrower (ESPECIALLY the flamethrower, seeing as the predator already shoots decorative flame jets)

the explosive kits could easily have explosive effects similar to the grenade barrage effect

quip users can keep the purple mist for kits (maybe turn the flamethrower jets purple as well), and explosions act like the pistol projectiles (bubbles with confetti)

flameseeker prophecies can remain on the player’s back (instead of hobosack etc) with the effect active when kits are drawn

and of course, footsteps etc active as long as weapon equipped, even if using kit

Even if there is a group requirement to ‘unlock’ the orb you still have the issue of a single player picking it up and flying it away.

A better system would utilize NPC’s that carry the orb to its target location.

Seriously, if you require a skill that teleported infinite range then you may be the thing that lacks skill.

I agree that infinite range was kitten, and needed to be changed. That said, the mechanic is currently bugged in such a way that it hardly ever works, catching the player on the smallest of trivial obstacles (That said, Most teleporting skills have this problem, not just thief skills, and the mechanic which calculates teleports needs a serious overhaul- this is larger than just a thief issue)

Alright Eldain, if you really feel that Thieves are that op then you should start a thief, level it to 80 and try it out yourself. Rather than complain here on the forums, why not learn how to play a thief and the play styles that we use? You’d be better off as a player and you’d be a lot more productive than whining to us on the forums. Actually learning how to counter us would solve the problem and you’d improve immensely.

It’s already been explained that the Thief that killed you was probably geared towards a glass cannon build. That means that they have lower Vit and Toughness. Thus they are easier to kill than someone who is geared for more survivability. Don’t start about stealth. It’s not necessarily a get out of jail free card and we aren’t invincible while in it. If you spec properly, you should be able to deal with the average thief.

But please, stop the rage. You’re getting nowhere by doing this here. Time to open your mind and learn about the Thief rather than adding to the ignorance and rage. I’d like to direct you to the opinions of someone who did what I’m recommending you to do now. I’m sure some people on the Thief forums will remember this:

I did exactly this. after my engie and ranger, leveled a thief to 80 and took a stroll in wvw. I was laughing my kitten off the entire time. no, thief is not useless in zerg, shortbow does an excellent job of punishing stacks and once the zerg is spread, having powerful single-target attacks to jump from target to target are a good thing anyway.

Solo roaming is even more ridiculous- stomped the first two opposing roamers I found (having never come close on my other classes) then leading a group halfway across the map before they could down me (this with a build that was low-stealth use, not even SR, just from infil shot and shadowsteps)

I should note that PvE is no cakewalk with thief, given how easily mobs reset, and will follow you in stealth. But when it comes to WvW, a player like me (very, very unskilled) should not be able to pull off the things I was able to do when I first waltzed in to EB.

This thief argument has been going on forever. Either the devs think this is fair or they are scared to nerf the damage.

They’ve tried screwing with the damage, and it never worked right. The real problem is the nature of stealth, which needs to be completely overhauled for the profession to be balanced.

Make us visibile (with the same stealth effect we have when we NOW enter in stealth) while in stealth, but still untargettable.

while I like the general concept of this, being always visible kinda defeats the purpose. I’d propose one-half-second flicker on hit when in stealth, and if afflicted with certain conditions that come with particle affects (fire, immobile, daze, etc) the particle effects remain visible as long as you have that condition when you are in stealth.

Ideally this change would come with additional options for utilities/traits to remove conditions in stealth, beyond the shadow’s embrace trait

I can get on board with this, as long as they completely remove the revealed debuff. Hows that sound to you? Also, QQ moar.

While I agree that Revealed is a poor implementation, complete removal would be… silly.

Perhaps (INSTEAD of revealed) a 1 second in, one second out mechanic- stealth entry requires one second cloaking time, (with the exception of cloak and dagger, which enters instantly), during which you are visible but not targetable, and doesn’t count towards the time left on stealth boon. Exiting stealth would include a similar decloaking time, visible but not targetable, (except exiting in stealth attacks IE backstab, which fire straight from stealth, then play the decloak animation.) This cloaking/decloak time would disable skill use other than stun breaks for the 1 second duration.

I’ve used /salute a couple times after a good fight, if opponents are still on the ground. I also use it to emote intent to ceasefire in JPs.

Don’t forget the dungeon weapons as well- some of them have a good size on asura. Especially the Dark asuran daggar, which also fits the race rather well.

I want less animals and many, many more patrolling guards. It should feel like areas are controlled by a faction, not just be random cap locations in the middle of nowhere where are couple of guards are lazily sleeping on their post.

20 minutes? I hope I don’t sound callous but do you mean to say you stay on that kit without switching at all for 20 minutes? Or does it happen after shorter time sometimes?

Not that that excuses this bug; I’m just surprised you’d stay in the kit for 20 minutes straight, not even switching for a second for swiftness etc.

im not here to show off my off-hand salami but i have to say it…
(This isnt saying i will win these situations each time but i have done it)
With my thief i can 3 v 1 max in wvw
With my ranger i can 5 v 1 max in wvw (BM power pet build)
With my warr i can 1 v 1 max (usually get burnt down due to condi)
With my mes i can 5 v 1 (who couldnt tho… 3x clones + Boom = ermahgerd)
‘’ ’’ ele i can gtfo of a 10 v 1 without dying
‘’ ’’ necro i can 3 v 1

So imo thief is about normal, its a different play style that people still cant grasp which is why they die to thieves, doesnt make it OP – just gotta switch from the way you would fight a warrior to the way you fight a thief at a moments notice

just to clarify, since you mention your ele can gtfo from 10 enemies- how many enemies can you gtfo from with your thief? I’ve slithered away from a zerg of about 30, after wasting their time trying to down me for a solid 2 minutes- sounds like not much, but I’ve seen a keep fall in less to a coordinated zerg.

Loot Bags any word on a fix yet?

One suggestion i can make for this issue is to make the Bags of Loot the same as regular material bags of loot you get from mobs, which will be automatically looted into your bag. This idea would also eliminate bag clutter as the bags would stack just like regular material loot bags, allowing you to open them whenever you wanted so you don’t waste time selling a bunch of blue/greens after every 2-3 fights. Finally if you have no room for anymore bags, then and only then would the bags of loot drop on the ground the same as they do now.

I like this idea- fixes the problem. I assume Wooden chests and Steel Chests would have their own separate item, of course.

If this seems too easily abused (somehow?), perhaps a halfway measure- if you are defeated, any bags/chests that have dropped but which you haven’t opened are added to your backpack. Reduces the time wasted DURING battle, making you easily killed/useless to team, but leaves behind the celebratory bag hunt after wiping an enemy group.

Actually, i think ANet is using physical interaction as a balancing element. Notice the rigidity of weapon skill positions, never mind that they rearranged a guardian set because it was too easy to just 1-2-3 your way down the row.

RSI should never be a tool for balance. You shouldn’t design a part of the game around the idea of causing what is considered an injury in medical terms to the players. I don’t normally criticize ANet, their staff, or how their game is designed… but if that is the case, someone is a sadistic kitten and should not be permitted to make decisions on anything that requires interaction from other humans.

Le edit: On a brighter note, I would actually be satisfied if someone at ANet just came out and said “hey guys, we realize RSI is a problem, and just wanted to let you know that until we find a better solution, you are permitted to make and use a macro that keeps using the grenade kit #1 skill while your chosen button is pressed.” That would be satisfactory. Not ideal, but good enough.

^So much this. I don’t even know if that could be legal in NA (I know that people in NA charge companies for some odd reasons so I don’t know :P).
And also, it would not be a balance around players because some players, who don’t care about their fingers’ health would spam more and more while people who care about their fingers would stop …

and the third group who buy a top-of-the-line mouse with all the number keys on the side to avoid the issue alltogether

Going to post my observations based on the assumption that I do, in fact, need to L2P a bit.

With my Engie and Ranger, I basically have to run with the zerg, because I’m in general, pretty kitten in wvw. I can’t survive on my own yet. It’s rather pathetic. Upon getting my thief to 80, I took a stroll in EB to get some map areas complete, and succeeded in stomping the first two lone roamers I found (having never managed to do this before on my other characters) simply by spamming 5-1-1 on SB, than switching to DD and spamming CD-BS. It hardly took effort. Later I managed to get a zerg to chase me across the kitten map, just using SB mobility and the small amount of stealth I had in that build (this build DID NOT use SR btw).

Thief needs to be a less consequence-free class. There’s no good reason why a pathetically useless player like myself should be able to do so well just because I rolled a thief.

Guys I know its not much, but lets be realistic. We get so much content for this game. We’ve had 2 living story updates in the period of a month. Lets just be content with this for now lol. F&F was obviously more exciting but that also was the end of a 4 month living story arc.

Absolutely not. I will not “be realistic”. With Flame and Frost showing us they CAN make good dungeons, this entire thing is downright atroscious. There is NO defense for their kittenty content update. I will not just sit down and say “oh okay well they tried their best”. They didn’t. This was terrible and anybody defending it is outright wrong.

I’m not much of a connoisseur or dungeons, but I will say that I would trade in every single new content update for a patch where they systematically went through and fixed all the known bugs. Some bugs have been known about forever and nothing has been done, while others had “fixes” released without proper testing, leading to more bugs.

If you’re going to forgo proper bug fixing in favor of stacking bandaid upon bandaid because you’re pouring your resources into new content, it had better be the kittening Mona Lisa of new content. And clearly, this is not that.
