Main: Asuran Engineer — Alt 80’s Ra-T-M-G-El-N-W-En-En-Re-Ra
Doctorate in Applied Jumping
Good to know, Collin. I’ll go ahead and work on the other 75% of bifrost until then
That said, I feel like raising the precursor drop rate could only be beneficial to anet- the precursor is a major dissuasion for many people to craft legendaries- more precursors on the market would mean more people crafting legendaries, sinking gold to get all the other mats, leading to more often gem purchases
How about just 3 different difficulty scales/settings this time and new rewards , i see that as fitting and nothing over the top.
You mean… Clock tower tribulation mode?
Bring it
Iron legion works very well for engineer, and human looks good doing just about anything, so those both would be good picks
I would also definitely recommend Asura- the asuran culture at the start fits the engineer so well that when I first began playing, I assumed there was a starting zone for every race/profession matchup, not just every race
Shouldn’t be that hard- sell in the gem store a pass to enter some asura’s transmogrification experiment in rata sum. You have to enter naked, carrying nothing. Once entered, “transmogrification” occurs – select a race and you construct your appearance from scratch. Since personal story would still be canon for your character, that doesn’t change. All that changes is your character model and ability to use certain cultural armory. (Ideally any cultural armor soul bound to a transmogrified character would become account bound)
Speedy kits is permanent-swift if you have at least 1 kit. Rocket boots is a great gap closer, or a great gap opener (if you rocket-boot out of a smoke bomb to open a gap, you get a bonus bit of stealth at the end of the jump, even). If you use rifle, jump shot is a great gap closer as well, and can sometimes clear terrain gaps that other classes have difficulty crossing, especially with rifled barrels trait.
Thanks for the replies. Is there any kind of obvious tell for when this is about to happen? I’m not the most observant person about details as they’re happening but if I know what I’m looking for I can probably do better about it next time.
The big-ol-bomb has a huge windup- a visible barrel with a lit fuse sits there for ~ 3 seconds. You’ll want to stay clear of it.
Am I the only one that thinks it makes sense for an engineer to be wearing leathers?
The engineer class most closely resembles a mechanical engineer (with some chemical engineering thrown in)- works with tools and constructs things. Since jeans and overalls don’t exist in Tyria, leathers are the most practical clothing the engineer can get. Not to mention several monocle- like leather headgear skins to match the class

Op, you came to the wrong forum to talk about stealth balance- you say you know thieves will come screaming “L2P” but you have no idea. The thieves are are like the mob- they will stifle rational discussion and if you really upset them, worse will happen- some short research on “Columba” (known elsewhere as angry ranger) and you’ll see that it’s possible to be permabanned simply because too many people here don’t like you. Run
Piogre – My grandpa and I would play Bomberman on his NES for hours. He introduced me to Duke Nukem, QBert, and he had this really weird computer game where you are skiing down a mountain and had to avoid trees and stuff. After so long, a yeti comes and eats you. I could never figure out how to get away from it…
That would be SkiFree, and yes, it was awesome. The yeti was actually a novel mechanic- it only comes after you’ve finished the designed course- rather than just stop you there, you get to keep going down the generated terrain until it comes and eats you. Technically possible to avoid by turning on boost mode and skirting around it, but it’s designed to always catch you eventually.

What stops you from just sending the password to your friends so they can freeride through the stage? You can’t character-bind the passwords or else you’ll need a needlessly large database to store every character of every account’s SAB standing, if the engine even allows it to be possible.
Password is binary yes-no to completion of various parts of the level, converted to base 32 (or hexadecimal if short enough)
Then encrypt using hidden character ID

What game had this? The only one that comes to mind right away was Mega Man but all it saved was items retrieved and states completed. The paths can be completed within two hours and that’s collecting all of the baubles.
I still have very fond memories of Chip’s Challenge…
I’ve taken guildies through w1 normal who wanted help (mostly just showing them the path, killing the boss myself) but that’s it. The gameplay far better suits single player (especially in trib mode)
ok he is crying stealth is revoked by revealed. ok use detected stealth still doesnt offer any help dps burst with stealth comes from backstab ie not being seen and able to get behind ur enemy even if u can use backstab ur still able to be seen ur not getting behind that guy
Play tf2 and you’ll see how easy it is to see an enemy, know where they are, and still let them slip by and backstab you
I don’t need [stealth]
first sensible thing I’ve heard you say
and for the stealth design. but they are fixing it soon.
Just so you guys know, anti-stealth skills aren’t going to make a difference.
Oh good, then you don’t mind if anti stealth skills are given to all the classes?
On mobile device ATM so can’t screeny, but I ran both worlds 4 times to get the skins I wanted.
Notes:
W1z1: still inconsistent with the jumping rocks, very frustrating.
W1z2: ran twice before I realized I could save time with. The wurm- almost makes it too easy
W1z3: once you know the route, it’s a breeze- but learning the route with instead earth water is painful.
W2z1: big challenge is the section before the hillbilly cave- so many lag issues on that one rapid before the patch
W2z2: hardest one, in my opinion, and the bugged checkpoint followed by a broken checkpoint is a nuisance.
W2z3: ice spikes are a pain, but got used to them, and shatter serenade made that last room much easier
This takes me back; when I was that age I was playing Pajama Sam and Putt Putt, while sometimes watching my dad play Everquest or whatever came before that.
Always great to pass the torch on to the next generation.
And yeah, they should be played in moderation, but that’s true at any age.
Yeah…. no. I’m all for a TM meta achievement title (surprising we didn’t get one after a dev said it was more or less an oversight for doing hard mode Liadri), but this just isn’t a good idea in a game mode where you’re meant to die. Repeatedly.
They’re probably waiting to make a TM meta until worlds 3 and 4 are out, so that the mata can cover all 4 worlds. As it is, the TM category is incomplete, but I really hope they add a TM title at the end of it (“The Guy”, perhaps?)
Didnt they mute Josh Foreman because he was too honest on the forums? What a shame.
Truly disappointing. Silence is far worse even than saying “we can’t do that”
It’s one per day per account for each world- so 2 tribulation skins a day, as opposed to several days for one normal skin
Something I find quite nice; only took a few days. To et all the skins I wanted; much faster even than getting the normal skins the first time around.
I didn’t read any of that. I don’t watch fake movie trailers either.
You must be the kind of person at parties who stands over the punch bowl and lectures people about high-fructose corn syrup.

Especially when the checkpoint before spawns you on spikes, killing you 50% of the time.
This has been brought up before with no response, idk why the dev’s haven’t hot fixed or at least made a reply on this.
How dare they not hand you the level on a silver platter, those kittens! Dwayna forbid you have to actually do something to progress.
Make it a skill-based check and not a herpa-kitten -I’m-a-grind-monkey check. Heaven forbid they make you actually have a modicum of talent and not hours to kitten away grinding currency.
want a skill based check? Fine. Go run tribulation mode zones 1 and 2- bunch of purple and green baubles appear around the final chest.
For now what you have to do is grab your shovel and dig. Dig till a angry bunny comes out and kills you. takes time. But better than restarting
Can’t dig a bunny in tribulation mode, if I recall correctly. And in regular mode, if you’re stuck too badly, it might not aggro you due to not seeing you.
Anet, is a /kill command too much to ask? I’ve wanted this in pve as well.

Will it stay for a full moth as it did in April, or just until the next release?
Not sure if this has been answered yet, and unsure which search terms to use to check, sorry if this is an extraneous thread
Well considering every skin has seen release with Moto now when he comes back he may bring back older skins.
I’m holding out hope that w3 will have at least one water level, and that that release will come with skins for trident, spear, and harpoon gun
One of each token + weapon design = a single one-time-use skin, to be used on a pve weapon or turned into a pvp weapon.
And since I’ve tried it already with an older skin, I’ll just note that using the transmutation splitter will not give you the useable skin back, but rather a level 0 green weapon with no +stats
I’m just hoping for a title once world 4 is finished- perhaps “The Guy”
Sorry but your definition of difficult for tribulation is flawed. Invisible traps are not hard, you just need to know where they are and simply remember where they are.
…
Tribulation mode is just a kitten trial and error, very poorly thought out. A timed trial would of been more difficult, but this is just silly.
They don’t call it “hard mode”. They call it “tribulation mode” and defined it as being the frustrating, trial-and-error game type found in cat Mario and I wanna be the guy. (IE, exactly what you just called it)- it requires large expenditure of lives and many very tricky jumps must be repeated several times to learn the course down the road. So you’re right, it’s trial and error. As designed.

Yes, and my point is why should they let you get infinite bauble’s for almost no effort and by extension bauble bubble’s.
They should have made them all character bound, and capped the runs per day at the number of available character slots. At this time, the blue skins simply take too long- I’ve gotten six tribulation skins in three days, but only enough bubbles for 2 regular skins.
The original sab release, meanwhile motivated me to get the sixth character slot I’d been debating.
psyched about this skin as well. it’s not even really a shotgun, but more a short-barreled scattergun like the scout wields in tf2 (models like this and this)
…hailing from tf2 scouting myself, I’m glad to have this for my engie’s pvp skin and for my warrior
If you think about it, the colors are actually the “RARITY” of items in GW2. Starting with the Common Blue SAB weapons. World 1 = Green/Masterwork, World 2 = Yellow/Rare, World 3 = Red/Exotic, World 4 = Purple/Legendary. I wonder if this was intentional.
The weapon colors follow the color scheme of Baubles:
Blue (1)
Green (5)
Yellow (10)
Red (20)
Purple (50)They DO line up well with rarity too!
Not to criticize, by why did you not make green the 1 and blue the 5? had you done that, and kept all others the same, it would have matched the denominations of rupees in legend of zelda (maybe not all zelda games- windwaker and TP come to mind as examples where this holds true, but others are missing some)
I’m very happy for those who enjoy this additional sub game, may they get much enjoyment and rewards from it. Unfortunately I didn’t like the first installment and don’t want a message continually reminding me that it is back for a second time.
Yes, there are still account owners who don’t know it is up, but I do and I’d rather have that piece of screen clear for other things.
So how about an option to remove/hide it completely? That goes for the other events messages too.
I second this; it’s bothered me since flame and frost, forcing other things (daily, event progress) to collapse
Purple colour weapons, not legendary weapon rarity.
Though beating world 4 on tib mode by itself will be legendary.
Can you imagine the kittenstorm that would follow it THAT’S how they implement the precursor acquiring? I’m thinking purple TM skin+ an ascended+ mystic weapon+ fractal skin : these 4 in the MF = precursor of that type

I know during the first SAB they did, but has anyone noticed if any of the first weapon set is dropping? I’d like to know before I shell out the gold for the TP version.
If it is only in TP right now, do you think the price will lower after this even is done? I noticed the Stakitten were down at 7ish gold prior to the spike in popularity again.
I think they don’t drop anymore; if you want one you need to buy one from tp or try for one from tribulation mode.
Oh, and the correct plural of “staff” is “staves” iirc- you can see that doing the Intuitive (but wrong) pluralization gets broken by the profanity filter as an abbreviation of “For Kitten’s Sake”

Thank you for posting this, +1 to you
I have limited game time and so have to choose between tribulation mode and trial/erroring for secrets, kudos to you for sharing your discovery.
I enjoyed tribulation mode, though I feel excluding the life counter in this mode would have been a better choice (or have he life counter count negative, like in cat Mario) when the level is designed with a “lives are cheap”, throw-your-corpse-at-the-problem design similar to iwtbtg and super meat boy. The design of the levels though is great, and having completed w1, can’t wait to have a large block of free time to do w2
Yesterday got through world 1 for the first time, and z1 for the second time, a run which confirmed that it gets easier with repetition- haven’t done w2 yet, and sadly the list of skins I want out of this patch includes 3 gold rifles :/

Wanted to toss in my two cents
People are, in my opinion, over-exaggerating the difficulty of world 2- it’s hard, certainly, and the meta for w2 will take me a lot of improvement (and I’ve already gotten a green weapon from w1 trib mode). From having been through once on normal, while I don’t normally object to more content, zone two is an overwhelmingly large time commitment with no way to take a break and come back later. I remember thinking back in April that I wanted the to be more zones in a world, not for the existing zones to be longer. But I’ll persist- w2 is not unfair.
Trib mode is unfair by design, and I get that, and on that note I would have made life count infinite in tribulation mode- someone done by both cat Mario and iwtbtg, the stated inspirations of trib mode. Trib mode can’t be played in a life conserving way, but rather in a super-meat-boy method of throwing your corpse and seeing where it lands. The dev’s themselves said its designed with a “lives are cheap” philosophy, which does not mesh with a lives-cost-baubles-or-600-gems. But w/e
Over all, despite small bug issues and a few nags about the very sharp difficulty curve and large time commitment (and time gating <_>), world 2 was very well designed in terms of gameplay itself, and looks GREAT, and I love the challenge with trib mode (did world 1, looking forward to world 2). – so excellent job, moto. I mean, foreman.

Fighting the frog cost me 5 continue coins, and my party lost pretty much the same before we figured out the pattern…
The bosses are pattern based for a reason, that is exactly what you are meant to do. It is an old school boss, as in the only way to beat it is to memorize and follow the pattern it has.
Edit: What did you expect from an omage to old school games?
Well, after all the events like the queens gauntlet an the portal invasions, i guess i was just expecting something a little more casual to appear…
When i saw 2 sets of acheivements, i thought that one would be easy, for the casual players, and one would be hard, for the hardcore players.
But instead we get a hard set, a REALLY hard set, and a god kitten impossible set. I only have 3 continues left, and i really have no desire to go back in there and lose them all because i’m not fortunate enough to enter the levels with prescience.
At the very least there should be a ‘training’ mode. No wonder asura kids grow up to be such arrogant know-it alls, if they used this machine to learn
Cry some more, Bookah. <^_^>
I got my predator just recently and have to say that while lots of engies feel shafted from the kit-nerf-through-lack-of-buff, I’m glad I don’t have to worry about ascended crafting on my main too much. I’ll be saving the materials I get and eventually making myself a harpoon gun, but I have to say its nice having only one terrestrial weapon to worry about.
My problem is I have no way to get there as I’m lvl 14
Go to the town you started near. >>> Find the Asura Gate to Lion’s Arch. >>> Take the gate from Lion’s Arch to Rata Sum. >>> PROFIT!?
If you don’t feel like paying for a warp to your hometown, you can also enter pvp or a wvw borderland using the buttons at the top, and take the pink gate there to lions arch, all for free.
Anything wrong with it? Well if i did have a complaint i would say tools being for all characters, i had to waste alot of time figuring out which character has all my tools, and it was my elementalist norn, why did it have to pick a norn for my SAB character ugh…i suggest being able to transfer your tools or tools being on all characters.
I second this- especially since rewards are account bound now anyway, let the in-box upgrades be such as well.
The Juggernaut, Bolt, Incinerator, and Rodgort now have larger footfall effects.
I fail to see any difference with before:
- the trail is as short as before.
- the footstep radius is as small as before
- the flame height is as low as before.
At least your weapon got mentioned.
Sincerely, a predator owner
…no, I’m not bitter.
…ok maybe a little
ITT: tears flow from those who want to be special snowflakes
personaly i realy dont like that these acheivments are comeing back coz it feel like you are be-littleing my past acheivments
I don’t mind this but dont let them get a second chance for the title Destinction in applied jumping.
WhileI’m happy that others now can access the content and get the achievements, there should be recognition for those of us who were there first.
Keep crying >:3
(edited by Piogre.2164)
The predator pretty much brings my Engie to his final form, at least cosmetically (still need to get an ascended harpoon gun and a few agony resist)
The color trim I change each week to match our WvW color- We’re Red this week.
Crafted precursors should have their own set of legendaries.
That way, people know who the real “legendary” players are and who got their legendary from easy-mode crafting.Top lel.
Just because you want your legendary (which you doubtless have already) to be a unique snowflake, doesn’t mean the devs should sit back as prices on the TP continue to skyrocket.
Clearly crafting procedure shouldn’t be easy (perhaps involving crafting together one of each ascended stat of that weapon?) and should probably result in an account-bound version of that precursor, but there should be a CONSISTENT method of obtaining it rather than shelling out gold in a kittened market or becoming the king plumber of Zommoros.
If nothing else, the existence of a consistent method will place an approximate upper bound on tp prices.
At first thought I agree with you, but really I can see where this person is coming from. Nothing is more annoying than putting in a ton of work on something to have the game devs suddenly make it 100% easier.
100% easier would be making it free. I don’t suggest making it easier on average, just making it consistent, because right now it’s not becoming easier- it’s actually becoming harder due to market inflation.
Say 4 DIFFERENT ascended weapons of the same type put in the forge result in that weapon’s precursor (that’s pretty expensive btw, just check http://dulfy.net/2013/08/30/gw2-account-magic-find-ascended-crafting-and-legendary-weapons-revamp-preview/ for a preview of the ascended crafting process)
not necessarily make precursor EASIER by much, but put in a CONSISTENT method to put a cap on the market and provide an alternative to playing the slots at the toilet
Crafted precursors should have their own set of legendaries.

At least yours got mentioned. Not a single word on the predator in that article, one way or the other
To put it bluntly, ArenaNet went with a CMYK color scale to base their tiers off of. At launch, we had Cyan, Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple. They were missing one step between orange and purple so they added Magenta tier.
It was never about stats. It was about OCD. Now that we have both the primary and secondary colors of the CMYK color wheel, we’re good. No more tiers.
