What sets the Gold->Gems price?

Beyond that, you need to be a super-rich tp player to be able to afford the gem store prices. And let’s not talk about using real money, as the $-to-gems ratio is even more absurd.

Really? Because I’m a weekend warrior who doesn’t farm all that much, has only ever lost money on the TP, but by saving my gold as I earn it I can easily afford to dump gold for gems for stuff on occasion…

When we will get a real black dye?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Also a black color won’t be affected by lighting. A black remains black no matter what.

That’s true, black is black because it doesn’t reflect light; the less light something reflects, the blacker it is. The thing is, total lack of reflectivity doesnt actually happen, anywhere. It doesn’t occur in nature. Everything reflects some light, even you monitor gives light when displaying “black”. If an armor were to be colored COMPLETELY black, with no light-reflect details, it would obscure all the details of the armor other than the silhouette, and look like someone colored over your armor in ms paint.

EDIT: It would look something like the below. Yuck.

I never know how to thank the kind hearted Mesmers so I send 2 of whatever MF food I have on me. If currency is preferred, how much?

I’ll generally send everything in the chest that wasn’t soulbound or account-bound. Usually do the puzzles myself, but occasionally use a portal if someone’s throwing down portals just out of convenience- keeping only the empyreal fragments. They usually get a blue and a green, and some mid-level jeweler ingredient (again, the contents of the chests, usually in lions arch). Once got an exotic from a jp I was ported up, and sent that.

works pretty well for valve… they make hand over fist with this model, and doing this in an mmo would be pretty innovative

This worked for Valve because Valve games had an extensive pre-existing modding community. They’d already released an sdk, there existed tools to put cosmetic skins in game client-side (and this had been allowed for ages), so the community was already thriving and Valve needed only set up a way to profit on it.

Anet can’t do this- they don’t have much, if anything, in the way of a modding community because client-side modding is against the TOS. Releasing the tools needed to add things to the game would make the game vulnerable to cosmetic-based exploits (primarily wallhacking) and thus they can’t create such a community off of which to profit.

Legendaries and Precursors shouldnt be in TP , that isnt legendary, but its tooo late to take them out from the TP Wars

I think they are good now , if they were more easy to get , everyone would have a lengedary right now and the legendaryness would decay with the time

I think the best solution to this big problem is to put more lengendaries

Great Idea: Personal Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

I like this idea, but it could use some reworking. Consider the following:

“Primed” needs a more solid definition, and needs something done to the weapon before it starts counting, so that Anet doesn’t need to put counters on every weapon in the game. Perhaps Have Miyani sell a gear upgrade which counts “Accomplishments” after being attached to a weapon. An accomplishment can be getting a kill, or completing an event, heart, vista, jp, dungeon, etc with the weapon equipped as current weapon (doesn’t need to be last hitting, but needs to be currently equipped- being the other weapon swap doesn’t count.) The counter adjusts a prefix on the weapon’s name (0 = Berzerker’s Greadsword of Stuff, 10 = Hardy Berzerker’s Greatsword of Stuff, 25-, 50-, 100-, 250-, 500-, 1000-, 2500-, 5000-, 10000 = Fabled Berzerker’s Greatsword of Stuff). I’ve changed “Primed” to “Fabled” here- sounds more like a precursor to legendary, and that’s exactly what it is in this proposal. The Fabled weapon replaces the precursor in the standard legendary recipe template. The gifts of fortune and Mastery are left as is; they’re basic parts of making a legendary. The weapon skin of the Fabled weapon at the time of forging becomes the model for the resulting Legendary.

The Fabled weapon and the Gifts of Mastery and Fortune make up 3/4 pieces, that last is the Legendary-specific Gift. The player can craft one of the existing Legendary-specific gifts and get the effects of that weapon, or they can craft “The Gift of Legend”.

Gift of Legend:
-Gift of the Adventurer (Determines Footfall Effect)
-Gift of Radiance (Determines Ambient Effect on Player and Weapon) OR Gift of Essence (Ambient effect only applies to weapon, not player)
-Gift of Creation (Determines Attack/Projectile Effects)
-Gift of Harmony (Determines the sound effects)

In Gifts of Adventurer, Radiance, Essence, and Creation:

-2 full stacks of dyes, determining the range of color for the effect, IE a Stack of Red and a Stack of Yellow gives the hues of the red through the yellow, giving a fiery look. Making either a stack of Unidentified makes the result all hues.
-One stack of Fine or 100 Rare crafting materials determines particle shape and Size from tier and type, respectively (250 Vicious claws makes large crescents, 100 charged sliver makes tiny electric sparks, etc).
-One Superior Rune (Air for Radiance, Rage for Essence, Adventurer for Adventurer, and Exuberance for Creation.)

Gift of Harmony:
-One Superior Rune of Perplexity
-One weapon or weapon skin (This is the base firing sound.) This may be substituted with one of the recipes for one of the Legendary-specific sub-gifts (Gift of Color, Liquid Flame, etc), to take the sound of that Legendary.
-One stack of Materials from the Crystalline Dust family of Fine materials- the tier determines the volume of the sound.
-Any amount of either Obsidian or Ectoplasm to change the pitch- More Obsidian means lower pitch from original, More Ecto means higher than original. Alternatively, use a Vision crystal for the same pitch as original.

Gifts of Harmony, Adventurer, Creation, and either Radiance or Essence combine to form The Gift of Legend, which carries all the information for those pieces.

Fabled Weapon + Gift of Legend (or pre-existing Legendary-specific Gift)+ Gift of Fortune + Gift of Mastery = Customized Legendary Weapon. Upon forging of the weapon, the player gets to apply a custom name. Weapon has selectable stats and all the regular capabilities of other legendary weapons.

There are so many, from Jumping puzzle references (remember only Zuhl? which refers to the ghostbusters line?) to numerous golem names.

But a couple if my favorites I’ve spotted that I don’t see in this thread:

In one of the AC paths, an NPC refers to a piece of equipment as a Resonance Cascader

And in Harathi Hinterlands there’s a renown heart NPC named Corporal Lebeau, a referance to a hilarious old tv show character

Swapping between kits frequently is a normal thing, and kits have a 1s CD for swapping.

Swapping to or from a kit puts all your kits on a 1 second cooldown, but you can swap back to your equipped weapon at any time.

Remember too that you should be making use of the Speedy kits trait even out of combat- you don’t get an offhand with a swiftness skill, nor a 25% speed signet. Speedy kits is your way of keeping up with the group.

eliminate stealth stomping in wvw

in WvW

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Remove downed state, is a stupid mechanic anyway.

wtb, stealth need a rework, no real counter to the actual broken stealth mechanic, is stupid like the downed (rally machine) state and both are toxic to the game.

I don’t mean to suggest that it doesn’t cause problems, but it exists for a pretty good reason- pacing. Two groups enter, one group winds up with a non-zero amount of living players and they’re the winner. Without downed state and rallying, you get a long, irritating lull in group activity while maybe two people go around and start rezzing people. With rally system, the “winning” group is still (theoretically) going to win, but finishes the fight with more people up, so there’s less of an interruption to gameplay.

Again, it’s a system that has issues. But it exists for a reason.

New Engineer in the game :)

in Engineer

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

I’m a new engineer as said on the title. Since my first sight on the engineer, I liked it’s concept for playing as a walking kitten nal with tons of turret. The fact is, people usually don’t play with turret builds which I have the most interest in, because turret builds are too weak comparing to the condition build.
Here is my attempt to build a walking kitten nal in PVE environment ( or WVW ?):
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdIQFAUlUUpmq1WxuKseNSiRM6j6yQH8WIqMA-TBCEAB2s/wOK/aR9HP0BcgSQAeAAhZ+75LAAA-e

Please give me some critics and ideas to improve it. ( cause I really want to play the game with such a role )

Consider adding in one kit- ideally one that gives you a fire field (Bombs for fire and smoke, or FT for just fire but a handy CC and spammable burn). Turrets make you a valuable part of a group, because you have several blast finishers at your disposal, and it’s all the better if you can spam them on a good field. Adding a kit will also let you make use of speedy kits and help you keep up with the group easily. (not to mention the 1-point trait in front of speedy kits will make those handy toolbelt skills even more useful).

If you really don’t want a kit, consider speccing healing as one of your attributes instead of PTV- your heal turret lets you access two different water fields, which means if you have all your turrets down and your elite available, you can drop the water with the existing heal turret, then drop 5 blast finishers (area healing) sequentially.

Utility Goggles - Reveal Stealthed Enemies

in Engineer

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

I don’t believe skills being added to detect stealth is healthy because I don’t believe anyone should be forced to carry a skill in one of their utilities purely to counter a single broken mechanic that another profession can exploit.

Gotta say I agree- Make the burning particle effect visible on stealthed players and be done with it. Burning is available on every class (in varying degrees, of course), doesn’t damage the other things attached to stealth the way revealed does (thieves can still stealth and get the associated trait bonuses for it) and the stealthers have a reasonable chance to cleanse it.

Convince me to make an asura

in Asura

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Within the Asura Storyline you will come to a point where you witness a lecture. And during this one of the speakers gives out the following speech:

Cepha: An exhasustive study of Tyrian physiognomy lead me to derive what I call the Cepha’s Constant.
Cepha: Multiplied by the mean ratio of body mass to brain size, it yields an important racial metric.
Cepha: Namely, said race’s importance as a factor in the Eternal Alchemy.
Cepha: Asura scored highest, naturally. Then, in descending order, we have sylvari, charr, human, and norn.

Now whats interesting about this speech is that what they are referring too (mass of body to brain size ratio) was actually mentioned recently in a NOVA part 1 of 3 special last week as an interesting hypothesis about animal intelligence. The link to the series is here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/nature/inside-animal-minds.html
I mention this link for those players who might wish to see how game dialog may be similar to some essences of reality, when one looks at the science.

Mind you the Nova special is about real life, and not in game life. But all Asurans in game understand that they are naturally superior to the other lesser races. They just can’t help themselves <grins>. Either way… have fun what ever race you are playing.

Not to dispute the point being made, but it bothered me that Cepha was introduced as a student of phrenology instead of a real branch of science…

Explain the Asura ranger to me..

in Asura

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Hey all I am pretty much in love with the Asura now. My first character was a Charr but I’m an Asura convert and just want MORE of them. I have an Asura engineer but was thinking maybe I would make a ranger because the person I play with has one and I like the idea of huge pets, little Asura. But I’m struggling to fit the idea of an Asura, from one of the colleges, as a ranger. It just seems so low tech and primitive. Maybe if the Asura could have SKRITT as their ranger pets (and only the Asura) it would make more sense to me, the product of experimentation now being used in the field.

So what’s your story about what kind of Asura becomes a ranger?

Field biologist and/or ecologist (scientists often work with nature), acquired a pet in the field and made a connection? Asuras are scientists but not above compassion, and the mental image of an Asura riding his/her giant pet is baller as kitten. The glyphic and other asuran versions of ranger weapons don’t look half bad, and could theoretically be the tools deemed optimal for the field by your character.

As for skritt, I’m pretty sure having sentient species as pets is Inquest-level evil.

Pickup times

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Turrets will, and should not, ever be a superior source of damage. That’s not what they are for.

The only times I see my turrets “die in 1 hit” is when I specifically place them in front of something or a huge boss AoE hits them.

Agreed- they’re not supposed to be the main source of damage, but an auxillary, stategic helper. I agree the pickup times could be brought down a bit but really turrets server their purpose pretty well.

And yeah, if they die in one hit and you’re not going 1vX that’s one high-damage attack that’s not being used on you or an ally while leaving the attacker open, or just lucky AOE coverage.

OP, was the bizarre formatting of your post intended to be poetic? It’s not; it looks silly. You also misspelled “ferocity”.

I assume you take issue with the fact that the crit damage nerf most heavily effects Berzerker’s stats (unless you’re running Assassin’s or some bizarre other stat; Possibly Celestial though I’m personally happy with the changes to my Celestial gear). This was INTENDED to hit Zerker’s the hardest, the very reason you used Zerker’s (IE it was by far the most effective overall and thus overused) was why the patch happened- Berzerker’s is still plenty powerful, and still easily competes with other stat combinations.

So, Stones from city completion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

Map completion gives a charge. Have not tried a city, but it was specifically mentioned by a dev prior to patch that city completion gives a charge.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I needed to know. This means I can build charges with my key runs (in which I include rata sum and sometimes the grove completion)

Nice so it’s better than the previous system was.

I agree, but there is a down-side. As you couldn’t use a stone for level 80 gear it did allow me to change the appearance of characters I’m leveling up at will, now I probably won’t change anything until I am 80 and have all my gear.

Price worth paying though, in my opinion.

I bet their metrics showed that most people didn’t bother transmutating low level gear. I think I did it once, myself. I’m sure some people did, but I think most of us never used most of the stones we got.

Yeah, I used them on a couple characters which I wanted to have specific armor on all the way through leveling (often just the headgear or whatnot from the character creation), but usually this was only 4-5 times per piece before hitting 80.

this is now much better.

(since this is how you won season one)

They won season one because, as everyone knows, you can’t invade Russia in the Winter.

The engineer is a primary AOE damage dealer and area denialist- the engineer is BAD at being a pick class, and VERY BAD at solo fighting, but works well with a group of other classes. Roll out damage, be it direct or condition, plus has a pocket area heal with his heal turret, which grows in strength for every turret he has available. An engineer only really has hope in a small fight (1v1, 2v2, etc) if he has time to prepare and initiate.

Ascended Weapon Portal?

There’s a technical reason for this- reflective surfaces can’t be easily made to reflect the actual world around them- this would require far too much processing power- so they are generally assigned a static “skybox” to reflect- a sorta empty-ish room. This can be variable based on what map/level the object is in (using the level skybox) or be specific to the model. Most of the time you can’t see it because the surface is too uneven to show a clear image, but in this case there’s a clean enough surface to actually get a good look at the skybox they used, and that’s what you see in the item as a result of it having a smooth, reflective surface. I don’t know if it was intended to make this portal-like effect, but if it was, that’s an impressively creative use of rendering engine mechanics.

Wow, way to combine multiple completely different topics onto one post, and on the wrong part of the forums, no less (try WvW discussion)

1. Everyone likes to think they get the most 2v1- it’s actually a pretty even split, because (A) you really only remember when it happens to you and (B) striking when the third party has the target occupied (IE making use of opportune moments) is not necessarily 2v1, but the target easily mistakes it for 2v1

2. I don’t feel bad for you. The breakdown of SOR was due in part to fracturing TS when the main TS got frequently ddos-ed by BG, leading to a series of “secret” alternates, which each also got leaked and targeted. A lack of central TS fractured the community, and SOR fell apart. I don’t endorse ddos-ing as a a tactic, but I honestly don’t feel bad for BG here.

3. I agree that WvW should not be affected by balance changes based on PvE, 100%, though it should also be a separate from pvp-stats for various reasons.

4. I also agree that AOE’s being limited to 5 targets is sorta BS, and removing that limit would maybe make it easier to counter stacking, and help break up blobs. Anet has stated they can’t raise/remove the limit for “technical reasons” which either means (A) “Our servers can’t handle that much processing, so the result would be too laggy” or (B) “We don’t feel like refactoring our code”. Each is a legitimate reason (part B less so, but it depends how much refactoring would be necessary)

Seriously though dude, try not to crunch everything into one post next time…

Ranged-Only class

Engineer is fun, try it.

Very good class for having something for any situation, consider FT-Rifle with healing and rifle turret for blast finishers (gives plenty of short range), third can be another turret or nades for some long range aoe. Have at least the healing turret though, it’s two water fields, one which you can blast on with the detonate- blast on the water for healing or your FT-4 for might. (Just be sure to remember that turret detonation blasts proc ON YOU, not where the turret was, so you need to be standing in the field)

The Gas Mask Thread.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So, now we have the wardrobe but will have armor weights, how does the gas mask behave? At its origin it is a weightless skin, but once applied it belongs to that particular armor type (once applied to heavy armor it cannot be applied to light armor).

Any dev answer? Because some of us love this skin and want to wear it on all eleven of our characters.

There will probably be 3 versions available

Possible Engi weapons (JFF)

in Engineer

Posted by: Piogre.2164

Piogre.2164

I had the following idea of introducing a new weapon that suits engineer perfectly: “Shotgun”

This weapon is a shorter range version of rifle, but emphasize on AOE more than anything. This weapon has the feature identical to Guardian’s staff but with much more condition application.

The Shotgun has the following skills.
1. Do a 900 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause 1 layer of bleeding
(2s default). (Much like Guardian’s staff, but more condition oriented)
2. Do a 900 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause bleeding. Layers depending on distance.
(<450 range = 6 layers of bleed, >450 range = 3 layers of bleed.)
3. Do a 900 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause torments. Layers depending on distance.
(<450 range = 3 stacks, >450 distance = 1 stack)
4. A charge shot that knock back up to 5 targets in 450 range cone shape. This skill also inflicts 5 layers of vulnerability.(This skill works like mesmer’s GS 5)
5. Do a 600 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause cripple.

We only have 3 weapons to choose anyway, so adding a new one will make us much more diverse and versatile.
I haven’t think of the exact value for these skills yet, but I hope you guys like my idea.

The engie uses the rifle a lot like a shotgun anyway (at least in my head canon he wields it like the tf2 engineer)- lots of distance control and distance defendant skills on engie rifle

As for weapons, I see both hammer and mace thrown around a lot, and they’re good ideas, though I’d also like to propose dagger and torch.

Also, I’d like a skill where I erect portable Asura gates, similar to Mesmer portals, but longer range. They’d take X time of not being hit to erect, and are destroyed by enemies attacking them like turrets, or the user destroying them remotely.

Feedback/Questions: Town clothes, Costumes, & Combat

I didn’t buy town clothes, so maybe not as upset as I should be about this.

But if the beanie becomes useable as an armor skin I’ll actually consider buying and using it.
