Doctorate in Applied Jumping
Absolutely Yes (variant 1). Many of us want to NEVER set foot in DBL, and the simultaneous gives that option (as opposed to rotating, which gives us 3 months of forced DBL, IE 3 months of just hanging out in EBG and EOTM). The amount of players who prefer DBL over alpine, as far as I can tell, will only take up one map’s worth, so leaving the other two as alpine all the time is a better option.
I really hate to be a nuisance and bump my own thread, but this is still happening to me. I still can’t make any attempt at changing my pet last through a zone change or relog. I’ve tried every way of re-changing and re-iterating my pet slots but nothing I do stops my primary slot from reverting to the fern hound. This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.
I’ve submitted a bug report, posted here with no answer, and checked the known issue tracker (nothing there). I am at wits end and don’t know what to do going forward to get this fixed.
They should introduce a title and achievement for completing every jumping puzzle.
without ever jumping.
First thing’s first.
Thank you for opening up discussion to the community. I have a lot of things to say, so I’ll try to lay them out as cleanly and clearly as possible (and tastefully edit them to be forum-appropriate). I feel some areas of improvement exist that aren’t really listed there under the poll choices, that are nonetheless very important to be addressed – I’ve posted these items in what I believe to be order of highest-to-lowest importance, though I consider them all important.
Firstly, I feel very strongly that the #1 PRIORITY must be moving back to the alpine maps as QUICKLY as possible. The desert borderlands, while they may appear neat from a PvE perspective, are NOT conducive to proper, enjoyable WvW play and have massively reduced the interest of career-WvW players in the game, in some cases driving them off entirely. A return to the alpine maps would bolster interest of those who prefer to spend most or all of their time in WvW and are uninterested or even disdainful of PvE play.
Secondly, something to consider for revising of EBG and the bringing back of the alpine maps – the PvE-like mechanics brought into WvW with the expansion HURT WvW. The tactivators, the surprise-boulders that close off passages in the desert BL, and the Cloaking Waters all introduce unwanted PvE mechanics that interfere with healthy WvW play. I urge you to NOT introduce tactivators to the alpine maps when you bring them back.
Furthermore, I urge you to reconsider your “will-not-remove” stance on the newly-introduced mechanics in EBG, and consider HEAVILY reducing the impact of many or all of them, and even remove the worst offenders (airship, cloaking waters, chilling fog). I know it looks and feels bad to remove things that you worked on, and I can emphathize with that, but these mechanics have made WvW worse, not better. I know you’ve said these mechanics have been intertwined with the scribing system, and again I can emphathize with that, but it really rings hollow when you say that you can’t remove these things you’ve added, because the end result is that it becomes the players’ problem that the developers made this mistake. I also know you plan to nerf these in the near future – I REALLY hope this nerf is a stopgap so that you have time to more strongly change these mechanics or ultimately remove them, and that you aren’t assuming it will be a permanent solution.
Thirdly, I couldn’t help but notice that the “Scoring Improvements” subsections did NOT include increasing the value of winning fights (fights against other players, not mobs/NPCs) and decreasing the value of Point-Per-Tick and “Player-Versus-Door”. Large battles are the heart of WvW, what draws hardened WvW players to the game, and placing more scoring emphasis on fighting (especially if its weighted for respective army sizes) would go a long way towards rewarding the play that WvW players come for.
Fourthly, I want to note that there are still issues of balance that differ from balance issues in sPvP and PvE – You cannot balance for all three using the exact same numbers, and WvW has had some issues due to certain things being A-OK in the other modes but troublesome in WvW. I highly encourage returning to having split-skills between WvW and other modes, and using this option more frequently, to address certain troublesome player mechanics (the greatest offender being, in my opinion, the long-standing issue of lone thieves abusing stealth to harass groups, then immediately cower back into stealth for extended periods, posing an un-ignorable threat which the group has no reasonable recourse to address properly).
Finally, I want to note that there are still many problems with rewards and item availability for those players who only play WvW. Many players want to spend as little time outside of WvW as possible (as stated above, many such players despise PvE). Most of the items in the game that actually affect your stats and build are available either through WvW, or on the Trading Post (for gold you can get playing WvW). This being possible should be a design goal – it fits with the original play-how-you-want philosophy, and it’s important that anything that directly impacts your play in WvW should be attainable in WvW. However, certain build-affecting items are still unobtainable through pure WvW play.
The longest-standing example is the Ascended Back Item – These provide stat boosts over exotic that are useful in WvW, but only some stat combos are available without PvE. While many of the original quivers and tomes can be crafted now using bloodstone dust, the select-your-stats versions (Thousand arrows and there-with-yakkington) still require a random drop from playing fractals (meaning many stat combinations are unavailable). The spinal blades required participation in a PvE event (current methods of acquisition require endless farming of PvE mobs for blade shards). Mawdrey, the so-and-so’s pack, Sabetha’s Crucibles, and the fractal pieces all require PvE. The human god backpieces are all EXCEEDINGLY expensive (because you’re paying for the skin, and the less-expensive-but-still-very-expensive ones require PvE masteries). Making it possible to craft the Thousand Arrows quiver or There With Yakkington using the bloodstone-dust version of the recipe would be a simple solution to this (and frankly I’m not sure why that option wasn’t made available when it was for the other quivers and tomes).
Other examples are more recent, with the expansion – while it makes sense to restrict the new stat combinations to people who bought the expansion, it does NOT make sense to force WvW players who bought the expansion to play through PvE to gain access to those new stat combos. Additionally, HoT exacerbated the existing problem of Rangers needing to play PvE to gain access to certain pets by introducing the Juvenile Electric Wyvern, a neat new pet that makes WvW players sit through the DS event to get – I understand it’s been moved to only require PART of the DS event, but still forces players to sit through some of DS for something they want only for WvW.
I think I’ve laid out all the things I have to say, and I’m pretty sure I’ve successfully edited the whole thing to be forum-appropriate. Thank you again to Anet for opening discussion up to the community; I hope someone gets a chance to read this and all the other thoughtful posts people have made regarding WvW.
EDIT: If anyone in the future has this bug, I’ve found a work-around.
On this character, I had no water pets, only a set of land-only pets. When I tamed two water-viable pets, filling both of my previously-empty water-pet slots, the bug went away and seems to now be normal behaviour.
If you encounter this bug yourself, try taming two water pets (you can easily find both a rockfish and a jellyfish in sanctum harbor in lion’s arch) to fill those slots, and that might make the problem go away.
I’m having a problem with my pet on my ranger character – Whenever I change zones or re-log on this character, the primary pet slot reverts from whatever pet I had there to the juvenile fern hound. I have tried playing around with numerous configurations and no matter what I do, it changes back to the fern hound upon logging in.
Interestingly, this only happens on one of my two ranger characters (the other one appears to be able to change pets just fine). When the slot reverts to the fern hound, it retains the name of whatever I previously had in the slot. The slot will even change to fern hound if I have the fern hound in the secondary slot, resulting in both my primary and secondary pet slots having the fern hound (which isn’t supposed to happen at all.)
Google and the forum search function haven’t led me to any page or thread with someone else having the same issue. Help me Bugs Forum; you’re my only hope.

I want to once again give a BIG thank you to the devs who worked to bring it back for us. It meant a lot to finally be able to play my favorite frustratingly-difficult challenge of tribulation mode again. I look forward to seeing SAB again next year. Thank you!
Through exhaustive research, I’ve discovered that while most SAB rewards seem to be daily-gated, the tribulation mode tokens aren’t – it seems one can get as many tribulation mode tokens per day as they can complete the courses for (the bauble bubble rewards are still once daily.) Is this intended behavior or is it a bug? I don’t want to take an account hit for exploiting a bug, but I would love to keep playing tribulation mode.
HUGE thank you to Anet for bringing this content back. Hopefully it really is going to be an annual festival this time.
They should just monetize SAB and sell a personal portal for 4,000 Gems. I would gladly pay for unlimited access.
Essentially this.
I’ve basically stopped asking the question “When will SAB come back?”, and just wish to leave ANET with the knowledge that the answer to that question is the same as the answer to “When will I ever spend any amount of money on this game again?”
Worked fine this morning, downloaded patch, now I log in, select character, and client crashes from the Divinity’s Reach load screen.
~brace yourself, thread merge inc~
If Anet put as much effort into fixing up and polishing the SAB as they did merging these threads all the time, it would be ready to re-open by now.
You know Anet, this just goes to show that we’re not so different.
I always felt that you guys had trouble connecting with us players. Now I can see that sometimes we players have trouble connecting to you as well.
In This Thread: People overreacting.
I love the new thief elite spec, and I think it’s great that it draws focus away from stealth and towards the other aspects of thief. Daredevil is the only elite spec I can confidently say I’m definitely going to pursue on any of my characters.
Whenever I play the personal story I run into bugs in the instances where the NPC’s just stop moving and I can’t progress. I want a ~800 gem leash to drag trahearne and friends into the trigger areas of story maps so don’t have to restart the chapter.
people, please dont be satisfied easily, lets keep complainin and give some suggestion to anet.
Responses like this are why Anet is loathe to make changes people want. Hell, I’d have liked the held grenade item to be a grenade launcher, but I’m not complaining.
Anet, thank you very much for finally making this change. 100% support for this; well done.

This is a good idea. Eliminates plausible deniability issues, gives players a way to undo their bad decision and help fix the problem at the same time, and allows people to provide reasons for legitimate transfers (giving support a place to look, hopefully avoiding any false positives.)
I just hope when World 3 is released the TM weapons actually look (deepish) red and not like a pinkish color.
Same- I want a blood-red axe.
Well played with the misdirection with the miniatures, Anet. Well played.
What you call misdirection, I call shameless money grab…..
Don’t know about that, but it’s certainly a major middle finger to the fans of the SAB, whom they KNOW want it back. I can’t imagine Anet is stupid enough to think this wouldn’t upset us, so I’ve concluded that they just don’t care. This is not the behaviour of a company that wants me to keep playing their game.
I am really really really sad.. I dont feel like logging on.
Same. Don’t even feel like standing around in Rata Sum to join the mock-“protest”. I’m fed up with this and donn’t want my having been logged in to add a data point for them to consider this day a success.
Very, very disappointed in you, Anet.

Great post. There are ways to make stealth better in this game without crippling Thieves. This and other suggestions I’ve seen would be great. (Although I think a few of these probably aren’t possible technically.)
I still think the easiest way is have ways to make a player visible, without making them drop stealth (still get other benefits of stealth).
sooooo. sab minis in the bl chests.

I will not teleport because the wp is far away. I rather wait till someone resses me up.
Good, I’m counting on it. If they refuse to take 5 seconds to res me from downed state, then they can die.
If my corpse causes people to fail the run, then good.
If events fail while I’m on the ground, then fine, at least I did something entertaining on my time.
…And if I wp, I got to walk a literal 60 seconds of a boring walk and I am not allowed to afk because I might hit a wall or a small rock.
I refuse to wp because it’s boring.
It is selfish to force me into this boring action of walking from so far away. Making me do what you want because it gives you ‘fun’/‘time’ or ‘whatever it is you want.’

-All the dailies are Super-Adventure-Box Challenges (Daily Bauble Collector, Daily Tribulation mode, etc)
-Super Adventure Box still closed.
I would rage so hard.
What about Med Kit? All other healing skills in the game are ‘wild cards’ as well and this thing is a device kit.
Yeah, but the main heal skill itself is moved to the toolbelt, and the kit doesn’t have a main heal, but some small heals and a couple utilities.
<Gaile Gray responding to the Hobosack thread>
The “greatest fear” story is still broken, whether intentionally or not, two months later. I liked the old method of learning weapon skills far more. Other bits of the NPE are meh, the other stuff is just kinda whatever (though the level-gates have been lowered from the original NPE levels, which were far worse). If they fix the greatest fear story, I’d be happier about the whole thing.
Although there was that SAB item datamined from Tuesday’s patch…

Yeah, I saw that, but my speculation is that it’s for a PvP reward track.
A lot of people would probably rage about this but I’d be thrilled.
I would come very close to becoming one of the people on these forums to whom I refer as “speshul snowflakes,” having gotten my storm wizard weapons through sheer blood, sweat, and tears. Then I would take a step back, breath deeply, and be over it.
I’d only get upset in a lasting way if they make this pvp track without also bringing back SAB at the same time- that would be a slap in the face to those of us who really enjoyed it.
It’s different than the “speshul snowflakes” because you’re not opposed to other people getting the items, it’s a matter of difficulty scaling. If it’s a PvP track, it’s practically negligible, compared to trib mode.
Honestly, I find hotjoin pvp more painful than tribulation mode- there’s no faster way for me to despise people in general than playing pvp.
Keeping a forum thread alive is the best way to reach the development team’s attention.

The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king.
And strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!
I mean, if I went ‘round saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!
Quality posts right here.
And OP, I got mine from the forge, by putting in the level 80 weapons I got with dungeon tokens and pvp dungeon chests. Do dungeons for gold (You’ll need lots of gold for other parts of your legendary) and spend the tokens on the level 80 exotics of the weapon type you want. Dump those exotics in the forge.

Candy corn is also used in several chef recipes. The price won’t be very high since the event is over, but there should always be at least some demand for it.
6 months ago they were over a silver apiece, and I expect it to be that way again 6 months from now
Loved ths boss, reminded me of stuff from Legend of Zelda almost. Great job with this chapter, Anet.
So, I just finished Echoes of the Past, and I’ll be sure to not include any spoilers here. On that note, the unique instance at the end, The Lair, you know, where there are actually “echoes of the past,” was very well done. So well done, I’d strongly recommend it be made into permanent content, such as a dungeon or a fractal. The fights were engaging, the puzzles were fun, there’s great lore to be had there, and the visuals were stunning. What more could you ask for in content? It’d be a complete waste to do all that work and not make it into something brilliant that lasts.
On the same note, the “Fall of Abaddon” fractal also needs to be done. Making us pick between two great ideas doesn’t mean that the one that didn’t get picked was not a great idea.
I sincerely hope this boss and the unused “Fall of Abaddon” concept both get made into boss fractals eventually.
I almost have trouble believing this is by design; I’m convinced it was done by accident in implementing the bandits-now-friendly thing. Pay 2 gold to get griefed by some kitten who happens to be nearby? Really?
Just want to take this opportunity to plug that many of us can’t even hide our OWN backpacks. There are literally DOZENS of us.
Remove hobosacks please.
Let’s try to hit page 25, then maybe Anet will listen.
Statics. The college of statics is almost entirely focused on practical applications- on production, stability, and usability. The college of synergetics is all about hypotheticals, philosophy of the eternal alchemy, and theoretical research. While this can be an intriguing, boundary-pushing work, a warrior is more likely to favor down-to-earth applications.
The story line is also pretty cool.
These chests come from a time when the LS handed out AP’s like halloween candy, and the chests are balanced around that. At the time, you got the chests faster, so the rewards made sense. You also had the pvp skins from the chests.
Solution: revert to the older amounts of AP’s from coming living story chapters, and add in an item into the chests that unlocks 3 random skins in the wardrobe that are currently locked.
Even starting from the stratosphere, an object in freefall will eventually crash to the ground.
why in the name of the lord? CanĀ“t you be happy there is at least one thing in abundance in this game?
I main an engineer. Because anet has seen fit to institute profession loot, not only do I have a lower chance at high-value weapons (greatsword, sword, dagger, staff), I also get more leather crap than anything else. You bet your butt I want leather to be worth something.
I have the feeling their might be an expansion next year.
Good thing there is no achievement for spelling. If there were, you might fall to 18th, and we all know how important that standing is.
But it’s cool guys cuz grouch totally mains an engi! He feels us! All dem feels!!
If he tries to feel me, I’ll kick him in the nads.
luckily there is no way to combine them to a book.

edit 8.5:
A Sylvari scientist, not what Lemark expected. He should have learned by now that there was nothing ordinary here.
Despite the science, this was a nice respite, he could get used to this. Something here was harmonious and relaxing, was that part of the plan?
A shriek echo’d all around. Lemark was surprised, he still hadn’t learned. Nothing about this place was ordinary.
…Hidden garden jumping puzzle?
I’m not trying to discredit anybody here. However, as some have mentioned, they have seen players making posts about having quit the game, yet see those same players on their friends list logging in daily. If you’re posting about how long ago you quit the game, yet log in daily, that’s attention-seeking.
The point I’m getting at here is that while there are people who behave in that manner, there are at least as many, if not more, players who legitimately come and go for whatever reasons and should not be punished for that simple fact. I don’t assume somebody is using those tactics just because they say that they quit the game, and anybody (yes anybody) who is leaving constructive and respectful feedback has a right to leave said feedback, regardless of their last login date.
I should also add that the considerations for this feature were over two years ago when we were launching the forums and determining what type of restrictions to put in place.
+1 for communicating your thought process on this matter. You devs get a lot of flak for every post no matter the contents, but this one is nicely transparent and I want you to know that I and I’m sure many others appreciate that.
Toolbar icon could work, though unlike elementalist attunements, engineer kit icons share a color scheme, which requires more focus on the toolbar to glean the information than it would for the elementalist.
As such, in addition to the toolbar icon, hobosacks should also be replaced with in-hand indicators of kits (held items). flamethrower and elixir gun already have these, and the wrench for tool kit could just be made a little bigger to increase visibility. medkit could hate a bandage-pack in one hand and a syringe in the other. bomb kit could have a bomb in one hand and a lit lighter or match in the other, and grenade kit could have a two-barreled grenade launcher (seeing as, untraited, the kit skills fire two grenades each)
I main an engineer. I have three of them, out of 12 characters. I consider myself a strong advocate of engineer interests. And right now, what engineers need is not a buff. There was a time when they needed help in that department, and anet has made them strong.
What engineers need right now is quality-of-life fixes. Remove hobosacks, make grenade kit less carpal-tunnel inducing, and do something about the fact that profession loot gives us the least valuable loot overall.
Although I’m avoiding doing the story on my existing characters until it’s fixed I decided I wanted to see the changes for myself so I’ve been levelling up a new one.
She’s level 50 now so not far off the edited parts. It will be interesting to see if it has been reverted.
So how’s it going?
Anyone else recently gone through the post-Sept. 30 patch PS?
Is the Greatest Fear chapter back? Truly back?
How’s the order of the episodes of the Orrian chapters?
I’ve got my Necro ignoring Gixx’s summons (Claw Island chapter) in hopes he doesn’t run into the screwed up PS. I really want him to meet Tonn. :-(
I went through it about a week ago, has not changed. Mother tree asked what was my greatest fear, I gave the response which normally gives the mesmer line (the friendly fire). personal story went right from the rancor ruins bit to the fort trinity bit. later, in the bit after Trahearne’s speech where he debriefs you on the greatest fear story bit, he gave me the lines as if I’d done the Tonn story.
