Doctorate in Applied Jumping
I can’t prove it but I believe there is an account RNG conspiracy. {:-þ -LOL
Conspiracy? no. But there is a problem somewhere- I know of people who’ve gotten several prec’s in only a couple hundred forgings, and others who get none in over a thousand- I myself have gotten exactly one, somewhere between 2-3 hundred
I’m inclined to think A-Net kittened up somewhere in the rng code, and used account id as one of the seeds for the generator- that would explain why some accounts seem blessed or cursed with forge luck.
Something about the Sylvari- their conversational obsession with “The Dream”- they remind me a bit of “those” friends I had growing up in northern California- you know the ones I mean, also coincidentally very into herbology.
And yes, it seems Anet does like to use sylvari a lot in this game, likely because they’re new to this game.
There are a lot of humans as well, due to them being the main characters of GW1, and charr are introdiced as friendly NPC’s a lot to drive home the charr-human truce.
Norn and Asura seem rather underrepresented. The Norn I kinda get- while there’s certainly a vibrant an interesting culture, they mostly seem like large, Nordic humans.
The Norn at least got some focus in Flame and Frost, and a representative (Braham) in Destiny’s Edge 2: Electric Boogaloo. We asura got a child who came in late in the story and did nothing.
At least we have the Super Adventure Box to keep us busy- I have high hopes for April, Anet.
In terms of Faolain and Caithe, keep in mind that gender distinction with Sylvari are almost arbitrary, since a: the relationship is never sexual and b: gender roles are not present in sylvaren society, as there is no difference between genders (as far as we know). Introducing “genders” to the Sylvari was basically just to make the race feel a bt more familiar.
From what I remember of the old dev posts and interviews, the Sylvari do have genitalia, and they do engage in sex as well.
I’d imagine they’d need plentiful lubricant to avoid catching fire.
I tried to go through an asura gate once in Rata Sum and got ported to the jail cell O_o
while back they extended the boundaries of the go-directly-to-jail zone because people were finding ways around it, and they accidentally included the idea incubation lab area- it’s since been fixed.
I’ve been trying to get in there. Just now, I got to the bottom of the city, and no arrest!
inside the city, or outside? I think to get in you need to slide down and off the outer wall- this was put in place to prevent people from using revive orbs and walking to the polymock arenas
I believe Anet might have overshot the ability-factor of most zergs to DPS certain targets. Zergs are 90% brainless
And apparently this is something A.Net wants to change, which is good, but it’s going to be hard task because of all those “i play how i want” players
For one, they can make a UI for the Squad system, like there is for the party system. A lot of people don’t even know the squad system exists.
Then add an autolauncher to a mumble channel designated by the commander of the squad into the UI- a commander should have the ability to designate “his” or “her” mumble channel, port, and password, and anyone who joins his or her squad can join up from an ingame launcher- IDK about you but I’ve found that zergs with voice chat and a commander at the head have only about 30% brainlessness

Anet, you had a lot of great ideas, which have barely shown through the fecal veil of the rushed 2-week schedule. Slow down, give those good ideas time to nurture. Work on your dialog writing. And kitten please put more effort into QA- remember, playtest early, playtest often. Your ideas are good, but ideas need time to nurture, to polish, and to grow properly. This LS season started strong but slowly each update became more and more rushed, it seemed. Please lose the 2-week release schedule.
That having been said, I’d looking forward to SAB part 3 when (and ONLY WHEN) you’re ready to release it.

Always assume the use of special/temporary currency will be removed with the next patch.
Well, that was my thinking when I dumped all 200-ish of my voting passes into the ballot boxes during kiel vs evon. Next patch, they stuck a vendor price ont he voting passes, but the “I voted” buttons were still just as useless
Anyone I saw AFK usually ended up dead….there did not seem to be many safe spots in LA….
The pirate jp is safe. Waltz in there, get halfway up, or even all the way to the last room, and sit by the chest. Afk and play Pokemon or minecraft or something, check back occasionally to move a step, etc

Actually I had almost brushed this conversation off at first, as yet another gag.
However… a little later I witnessed his conversation in the refugee camp (he moves in between the camp and keep) with the healer. Apparently, he was able to analyze the miasma and find a way to neutralize it with sub-aether harmonics in a localized energy field, or something. Maybe it’s just this pesky golem’s wishful thinking… /shrug.Or maybe he’s about to boost his power to a full-blown Miasma-shredding device
Neutralize it with harmonics- and note that the chassis he commissioned from evon included a powerful amplifier
Why didn’t you stop it?
Might I also add that the tengu, waiting until stuff gets real bad and ignoring the issue until it involves them directly is EXACTLY what the US did in WW2? ;P
We waited till we were attacked, THEN it became our problem; up until then, we let a homicidal manic rampage in Europe. Sounds very similar to the Tengu and the rest of Tyria vs. Scarlet to me.
Seems more similar to Switzerland- in an effort to be neutral at all costs they become as dangerous as the enemy. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
It’s Happening!
wrong character- it’s supposed to depict the guy who didn’t get elected, and claims it didn’t have to be like this
I was an avid Kiel supporter from the start
but kitten
This is maybe the best thing I’ve seen on this forum since the SAB river of tears in the fall

There are several things they’d have to change if they truly destroyed lions arch.
1. They’d need the race cities to all have gates leading to each other, if the gate hub is destroyed
2. The race cities would need mystic forges, if zomorros is destroyed
3. All personal story chapters which take place in LA would have to be rewritten, as well as all that pertain to LA, like Clawr Island
This is all possible; it would take plenty of work but I could see them doing it. There’d be a couple additional changes to make:
The three jumping puzzles -could- be removed from the game, and from the achievements list. However, they’re off to the edges of the zone, and could go mostly unaffected by whatever takes down LA (perhaps the entrance to trolls end would be moved, entered a different way, as would be the entrance to the pirate cave)
It’s likely the POIs, wp’s and vistas would be shifted around or changed slightly for the new terrain, the rubble or whatever. If any are deleted, there’d have to be a check so that anyone who has every other part of the world map complete, but not world completion, would get completion when the remaining objectives are removed.
Well… Being Hit by 3 heartseeker while you are already 1 sec in stealth is Not cool.
Happened to me 2days ago. I was Low on endurance Hit cnd while opponent started hs Spam. First hs ok, it has a casttime, second hs maybe luck, i changed direction and got Hit by the third hs. It was like hs was tracking me. I guess Server lag and the game didnt recognize i was stealthed. Didnt die from it cuz over 50%hp but i felt being cheated :|
Thief weapon skills queue up if you hit the button/key multiple times, because they don’t have cooldowns. If you tap HS 3 times rapidly before an opponent stealths, it will add 3 to the queue with the opponent as a target, and will leap towards that target despite him being stealthed.
People will always complain about Thief no matter how many times Thief gets nerfed. Players hate fighting stealthed enemies in any game MMO or not. It takes away their most important asset to a fight, their vision. Unless stealth is removed entirely, people will still complain. Get over it.
Cloaking works fine in tf2, but the way most forum thieves act, I suspect if tf2-style implementation of stealth were to be implemented, they’d all lock themselves in their rooms and cut themselves…
Ironically stealth is extremely similar to TF2. You get a loud sound when you destealth, you are only able to stay in stealth for a certain time, and you won’t destealth if you get hit.
Besides backstabbing only works out of stealth I’m not sure what you’re getting at here. Unless you want Engineer’s flamethrower to suddenly make Thieves visible when set on fire.
-In tf2, entering and exiting stealth takes a 1 second on/off time during which you’re partially visible due to the fading but cannot use skills
-in tf2, you FLICKER if hit and are therefore able to be tracked by a skilled opponent
-while all instances of burning making you visible might be a bit much, I’m inclined to agree that the best way to introduce stealth counterplay would be to implement ways of seeing through stealth instead of applying revealed, which causes a bunch of other issues do to how much the class is built around stealth. Whenever revealed is brought out, thieves point out that “the entire stealth trait line” is affected- use of certain skills to see stealthed players, instead of applying revealed, would let them keep stealth bonuses while still being seen.
I find it easy, collecting dozens of gifts last night already. I also find the changes are improvements from the first iteration.
Maybe those who keep failing are used to mesmer portals? I don’t know. One thing that I would dislike is changes to make it easier. It’s a skill based game and like it or not, Jumping requires some skill.
And yet, it’s OK to be bad at parts of the game. I suck at sPvP, but I don’t go around asking to be buffed because I suck. I say try it, and if it doesn’t appeal to your sense of self-satisfaction, then move on.
The snowflakes are a piece of cake, as is the snowball run at the end. The gift boxes are another story- I spent multiple activity timers in a row standing on the platform before it and just watching, and could find no discernible pattern, except that it would always entirely self-destruct with too many people on it. It’s 50% rng and 50% relying on the intelligence of the people behind you to not overload to section (read: NOT a skill based segment).
This segment alone turned me off from coming back to the puzzle after my first completion. I did the clock tower daily, usually in a single try each day, and grinded all six levels of tribulation mode daily for about a week when it was out. I don’t rely on Mesmer portals- often enough, I make them. But I can’t bother myself to return to this puzzle even for the wintersday dailies. Kitten that.
I’m fairly sure that some of the BG self-nominating BG here are trolls. I hope so, at least. The behavior of some BG the past few weeks is tarnishing the good reputations of Russian players.
I’d like to jointly nominate SOS and TC- I miss having each of you as regular opponents from immediately before and after we hit T1 earlier this year, and fighting you is always a treat.
Hope to have more engagements with you in the future, when I get back to playing after finals,
- a Rallian
The character itself is a cool character. But it’s time for the character to die or retire or whatever- it’s old and becoming unoriginal to slap the same villain at the top of each new LS update.
Not to mention how mush I despise attempts to umbrella all concurrent conflicts under a single scape-goat source- especially when the amount of aggressors in the lore sets them up to be better than that tired cliche.
Also, the fractal portrays the inquest as the good guys who you play as which is probably not likely.
Yeah, and in the ascalon invasion fractal you play as the flame legion, that doesn’t mean they’re the good guys.
You should have Voted Evon just saying
Someone’s bitter.
So, because you don’t like the story of the thaumanova reactor, you just steal the plot of Half-Life.
Pushing the sample (a glowing crystal) in a small cart into the reactor, which causes an explosion, and creatures start portalling in, while a professor “Klein” watches… All it needs is a “resonance cascade” line.

My engie’s surname is Conagher.
Because stealth is the mechanic many new players have the most problems with figuring out. Kind of obvious, really. And those people happen to get caught a lot by roaming thieves, so go figure.
Top kittening Lel right here- stealth has been around long enough for people to get how it works- you pop in, pop out. Mesmer skills, necro DS and even some engie kits should have a much higher propensity to confuse new players.
And note the distinction between “baddies” and “new players”- the two are not necessarily synonymous. Many of those commenting on stealth have been around a while, and some have rolled thieves- I did, and despite no longer being a “new player” I still play like fetid garbage, yet have free reign on my thief whenever I take a stroll with it in wvw.

Take a look at what subforum you’re in, pal.

A honest question that has not been answered besides all the trolling etc.
Why did BG think they needed to recruit additional guilds to their server?
From week 1 results, it was a very good competitive match. Did you actually need to go out and recruit other?
Again just an honest question, no QQ or not trolling. Just curious the reason why.
My guess is that some members of BG (not all, and not pointing at anyone in particular) didn’t want a “competitive match”- they wanted a winning match.
And as for why BG hasn’t given a clear response, my guess is that the forum doesn’t have unicode support for the Cyrillic alphabet.
whats so wrong with engi . i main one and i do just fine in any game mode with little to no issues. the class isnt the problem its the player. Engi is a verry verry strong class in the right hands it takes getting used to because ur switching in and out of kits verry often almost like an ele. 1st problem is yes you should learn to dodge time and time again ive seen countless other engis thinking they can sit in one kit and spam attacks all day without dodging its pretty much stupid to do that with any class. And aswell ur low lvled so start working on getting better traits aswell and when u hit 35 try and spend some money on rares thats when engis truely shine ull be able to handle pretty much anything comming ur way in those events.
There’s a lot of disagreement about engie- honestly, I inks it’s definitely powerful, and will take you places, but has several quality of life issues that anet seems to either not know about or not care about
Within the story, 2 of five racial mentors and 2 of 3 order mentors are male, and the dip-kitten sylvari Orr expert whose name escapes me is male. In living story, 1 of 2 mentors from molten is male, lord faren and canach both male, moto was male along with more than half his ex- crew, gnashblade was male, mad king and blood prince both male, list goes on…
I already miss the old KH loading screen, with the giant stone woman in carved in the mountain eye-kittening the camera…
Well idk about anyone else, but I’m suddenly having trouble with the jump-into-the-clock-face after having not had any.
~40 completions of clock tower prior to todays update, never had trouble with this jump
10 times attempted this jump since today’s update, all of which failed at the clock face
I’m noticing a pattern- that kind of consistency rarely exists in data
How can you over populate a virtual space? Doesn’t even make sense.
Goes to overflow
Very unusual way of levelling, but it sounds kind of tiring/boring. I just looked for recipes that required lots of ingredients that could be cheaply bought and cooked 100 of these. Takes you up 50 levels.
Now what to do with 100 loaves of bread…..
My guild has a whole portion of the guild vault dedicated to cheap foods people made leveling crafting, open to guild members who are fine with cheaper food for free
I’m fairly lucky in that my first 3 80s were engie, ranger, and thief, so only leather worker to 500 will work for me for a while. Of course, even that will be painful- I’m slowly saving up the gossamer and hard leather I get from salvaging for luck/ectos
Legendaries can now switch stats…
Why not enable a mechanism that also allows them to switch skins? Allow all legendaries to be able to look like any exotic weapon. Perhaps even a set selection of exotic weapons only. Anyone wanting to flaunt their legendary can keep the original look. I honestly do not think this would cause a loss of money for Anet and I feel that it would provide the correct solution for a problem many people have. The resources required for legendaries merit this ability.
I agree- let them keep all the footsteps and other effects, but be able to add skins to them- would require that you have a weapon or skin to add to he skin list, consumes that weapon/skin and makes in available on the legendary’s selectable list
So I’ve completed the predator for my engie, starting on bifrost for my Mesmer
-2 clovers
-dust levels 43, 36, 87, 10 (radiant→ crystalline)
- 10 uni dyes
-1 opal orb
-421 badges (recently dumped all for gold, have to restock)
-78% world completion on next highest character (wvw portion finished)
-20-50 of other t6s
1: FT is good for 2 things- one is, as above noted, constant stream of tiny attacks, which makes it hard to mitigate with blocks, etc. besides this, it’s very good sourc elf burning (of course). Note that the tool belt skill applies with your next 3 attacks- any attacks. As such, it pairs well with “big” skills (like the grenade kit tool belt)
2: while possibly not the most powerful healer point-to-point, engie is the most flexible healer. The dispenser is great for holding down a set area, while he other two are much more mobile. Note that the main heal for the Medkit is the tool belt skill instead of skill6, meaning it is available in several situations where your skill bar is cleared- in addition, your “heal skill” is still technically skill 6, so effects which trigger on"using your heal skill" occur by switching to your kit for even a split second.
3: High dps comes from careful use of your kits/weapon/other skills. Most of these have one or two highdamage skills on cool down, so you can switch around and launch the high-damage ones right after another if you build right.
4: the main thing to remember is that you may have 1 equipment-weapon set, but you don’t actually have a main weapon- your weapon and kits are all weapons do be used in different situations- you can switch between these weapons with no cool down. Use that to your advantage. If you aren’t using a kit, consider using at least one. If you’re a turret engie, consider tool kit- if an elixir engie, consider elixir gun.
Jump shot is a skill that uses the power of a single shot to propel the player into the air.
It should be even more forceful than overcharged shot. Not to mention that immobilize/cripple really counters this skill, as the player should prevent where he should be landing.
I would agree, except that if you have jump shot, you’re using rifle, which ALREADY HAS skill 4 cure immob, crip, and chill
Sure it is, it would work like this:
Week 1: JQ SOR BG (like now)
Week 2: JQ SOR = Easy week for BG
Week 3: JQ BG = Easy week for SOR
Week 4: SOR BG = Easy Week for JQ
Week 5: JQ SOR = Easy week for BG
Week 6: JQ BG = Easy week for SOR
Week 7: SOR BG = Easy Week for JQ
There, two easy weeks a piece.
Both my proposed schedules give Tier 1 servers an EQUAL number of easy weeks.
Either one is perfectly fine, but you cannot be giving out free points.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out these two schedules are the ONLY way we have equal competition.
I’d appreciate something like this, but put SoR/bg/jq at the end, not the start. More epic final week.
Here’s the deal with the free market:
In a market in which all participants are both selfish and rational, the market adjusts so that all options are basically the same price.
But all people are not both selfish and rational- gambling makes people do irrational things; therefore, the gambling option is usually, on average, slightly more expensive.
There’s another factor in play though- items have diminished return when sold on the tp, due to listing price.
Therefore, there’s a line to be drawn- my strategy was this:
When you get rare or exotic drops, check the price to sell on the tp. If the sell price is over a certain amount (I went with 25s for rares, 1g for exotics), sell it. Otherwise, hold onto it, keep 10 bank slots reserved:
3 for rares of the weapon type you want
3 for exotics of the weapon type you want
2 for exotics of other weapon types
2 for rares of other weapon types
1 for mystic forge stones- the huge amount you got from achievement chests
When you get a 4th rare/exotic of the type you want, take them out and forge the- then either sell it you get a high-priced result or put result in the bank.
Do the same when you get a 3rd of the non-goal type, combining the 3 with a stone- don’t use the stones with the weapons of the same type you want as the stone removes type-persistence.
DO NOT dump gold into the tp to get mystic forge fuel- any gold you get should be held onto- if you reach the tp price of the precursor, just buy it.
This strategy got me the hunter- got it with 4 rares from the forge, but pretty sure it was a lucky forge- fewer than average total attempts.
And this runs concurrent to other processes – even if you have enough for a precursor, don’t spend any coin on it until you have every other piece. The order of acquisition, barring an extremely lucky forge or drop, should be:
77 clovers→everything else→ precursor
Because there’s always a chance they’ll make it easier to get in a future update.
Wvw, especially Friday before reset, join in on a big Zerg
If that’s full, form gives karma. Also, sanctum sprint and other activities give 600 karma per run, iirc
Outside is a long, difficult JP. Inside is a 5-person dungeon route. Both lead to the top floor, with a nice reward.
I find that when you’re running with guildies and friends it certainly makes it far more enjoyable then running around by yourself
This, so much. Everyone loves to bash “zerging”, and I get the aversion to the death-ball from a strategic standpoint, but running with a several groups of guild members, plus some pugs who saw and followed a tag, is really enjoyable- especially when you’re first starting and just learning the mechanics of wvw, and the play of the maps.
I’d like to suggest in particular, OP, that if your guild has a ventrilo/team speak/raidcall/etc, download the program and use it in wvw- if not your guild, your server might have one big ts server- so look into it. It helps you connect with the people you run wvw with, it makes you better able to survive, and it makes you more useful to the team.
A wooden sword is not an effective combat tool
Are you serious? A wooden sword can be seriously dangerous if handled right… Or if handled wrong.
With regards to the library book idea, is it completely unreasonable to show your character start reading the book, then fade into a scene of the happenings in said book? This is a time-tested method of storytelling within game-storytelling
Meh. Sometimes I just cant understand people. For those of us who love to be punished? Induce more stress? Why would someone play games to get punished and to experience stress? I’m getting too old for this kitten :/
The level of difficulty in a task positively correlates to the level of satisfaction received by legitimately succeeding. That feeling you get when you beat a game/challenge that is unbearably hard (but still achievable within game mechanics) is a “high” rarely artificially replicated.
I get what you are saying and I understand that reasoning. But I dont blindly agree with it. If a “high” justifies all means, we should all be junkies becouse who cares if meth will ruin our lives if we can feel that amazing euphoria from time to time? There is a cutoff point past which it is simply not worth it. This point may vary from person to person but you need to place it somewhere for general population. I experienced that “high” state in both life and games several times. I know how it feels and I know it is amazing. But I tend to look back and consider if all that hard effort was worth it. Sometimes it was, sometimes it wasnt. So taking an example of GW2. Would 5 hours of complete rage be worth it to experience 5 minutes of cathartic euphoria? IMO it would not. Stress and rage are bad for our health and this has been proven. I know for sure I would never decide to play a game where the majority of my time spent would consist of feelings which are actually hurting me.
“Difficult stages are like drugs so they are bad!”
Are you seriously trying to talk people out of enjoying a particular type of gameplay?
Methinks someone couldn’t get through tribulation mode, and is bitter.
This may be a bug in which case contacting support is your best option
BUT imma just suggest a couple things, just I case
Did you make sure to get everything in wvw?
Also, double check plains of ashford, Brisbane wild lands, snowden drifts, and gendarran fields as these areas have had small map elements added semi-recently
Beyond that, yeah, just contact support
Human seemed a too-obvious choice to me, wanted to not start with that. And honestly, Norn seemed like just tall, Nordic humans- almost a cop-out. Sybaritic seemed interesting lore wise, as did charr, but didn’t fit quite right. Asura seemed it would stand out the least in a crowd, and fit pretty well for an intellectual character (I knew I would be making an engineer)- so I went with that.
I’ve not yet rolled a warrior, so I can’t say much with regards to warriors except that (from an outside perspective) Anet seems to favor warriors.
With regards to engineer, I can say that engineer is certainly powerful and you can definitely go far with one if you choose your build right. That having been said, engineer has several small quality-of-life issues which don’t hurt balance so much as prove a nuisance for players- turrets are (still) buggy, gadgets are single- use with no passive effects (would have been better if they acted like signets), kit weapon power is a fixed amount tied to level rather than tied to gear damage (they only just bumped it from white to exotic damage, just in time for ascendeds), plus cosmetic issues regarding back pieces and legendaries if you’re into that
But despite all that, engie is still pretty fun to play, and will definitely go far (especially in a group)- you have a steady stream of conditions, plenty of blast finishers at your disposal, and a good amount of cc if you spec correctly. Not to mention some of the skills (rocket boots, flamethrower) are just ridiculously fun to use on a release-your-inner-child level.
Edit: if you want more information about either class, I recommend you look anywhere OTHER than the class-specific us forums on this forum. The class forums here are basically filled with advocates for that class, and you’ll find that everyone loves to feel the victim
(edited by Piogre.2164)
just use them instead. much quicker than to delete them by typing in their names ;-)
This, you can just use them; they’ll sit in the finishers tab of he here’s panel, inactivated, until such a time as you feel like activating them.
It is the fall trait, you know the one gives you 50%- fall dmg, it is now bugged and hit by hideous high numbers, mine is around 18k (base damage).
They just made some human mistakes in the formula for the trait.MESMERS out there, go one shot people
I’m unclear as to what you’re trying to say
Do you mean causing ridiculous damage to the one falling, or to enemies standing by?
And do you mean for one specific class, or all of the fall damage traits on every class?
I can’t understand how they can think that crafting something was free since they gathered the mats.
Say that you are out walking. You are hungry and need to eat something. You stumble over a Snickers on the side walk. You pick it up. You can now sell it but since you are hungry you eat it. How much did you pay for that candy bar? In my perspective nothing, since you were hungry and was going to buy something to eat anyways.
Bad example- you can’t really just resell a snickers bar
Try this:
You’re walking down the road when you peer into an alley and see a glint of light. You walk over to it and realize that it’s the plastic protective cover of a rare baseball card (or some other kitten). You have two options:
1: sell the card on eBay/Craigslist and net your self a small wad of cash
2: put the card on your mantelpiece- you are a fan of baseball, after all.
If you choose to keep the card on your mantelpiece, then yes, you LOSE the opportunity cost of the wad of cash you could have picked up by selling the card.
you don’t really do.
They don’t think it be like it is but it do?
