What she is speaking about, in my opinion obviously, is the firstborn tending to the tree, something luminaries were never explained to do. They teach and train the newly awakened, that is it. She is not talking about luminaries there.
The whole inconsistency is based on the premise that the luminaries were stated to be the first of their cycle, something that has been contradicted ever since the launch of the game, and I cannot find anywhere.
I guess we’ll agree to disagree about the Wardens. That is not to say there wasn’t inconsistencies. Scarlet’s age, Modremoth’s name, the formation of the toxic alliance are all good example. I just don’t think this particular complaint is warranted. Again that is not to say there aren’t other complaints, even in the latest episode.
I’m not saying Kahdenis didn’t see every new sylvari, just that he didn’t do it alone. Now why he would do such I thing is obvious, there was, during the time, a little fear and anti-sentiment towards non-firstborn (this can also be seen in Cadeyrn’s story, where he was accompanied by Niamh) Examples of this sentiment can be seen in the Newly Awakened story:
Newborn: There they go again. Probably talking about us.
Newborn: Why aren’t we involved in their discussions?
Now Angel’s comment, I reiterate, it seems to me that it referred to the new (in recent months) influx of sylvari. Which would occur after Ceara’s awakening.
(edited by Plagiarised.2865)
I’m sorry but I think your misinterpreting Kahdenis’ words. Him saying that he is helping each of the newly awakened doesn’t mean he is solely responsible. It could mean that the menders was a very small group that put a strain on the him (which would lead to the larger group found in 1325 AE.
You say that, and yet they had Menders (Scarlet was welcomed by Mender Serimon). So clearly there was a structure set up since you guys decided to chuck Scarlet/Ceara into the Seeds of Truth instance.
What’s the screw up? They didn’t have wardens or the luminaries but they already had menders. They are all exclusive, and there is not doubt some structure was in place. The structure she was referring to was schooling, teaching, and learning. Not helping newborn to get acquainted.

Still doesn’t explain how Wynne got into the cave in the first place.
Wynne got into the cavern with the forgotten seal you received at the end of the episode. Where or how she got the seal, well that’s another question.

And I recall it being said somewhere that there was 1 Firstborn sylvari born per cycle per day (thus 4 sylvari every 24 hours over 72 hours).
Konig, I cannot find this information anywhere. I have been digging for days now, with no avail. I am beginning to be really skeptical of such a statement.
If you want to argue about the story, of what you liked or what you didn’t like. That’s fine. If you want to discuss lore inconsistencies, that is great. It should be discussed. But not believing the words of a writer, simply because you don’t like their work, well that’s pointless. What does that achieve?
Angel said it was planned. Now you can believe her or not, but there is nothing more to it. Saying you don’t believe it, because you don’t like how the story turned out, frankly, that’s just wasted energy.
Yeah, things have been a bit heated to say the least.
But back to the query. Correct me but, I can’t find anything in that thread that said the firstborn awoke in the span of three days, 4 per day.
I don’t think the second concern is a case of the idiot ball. We know Trahearne is not a night bloom, and as such would not have the affinity to keep secrets. Plus, the Pale Tree might have seen him as a liability since he leads a giant army determined to destroy dragon minions.
Thank you to you both for trying to answer my question. I am still a little skeptical that the information is in the game, but I will take Konig’s word. If it was only stated in an interview (especially a pre-launch interview) then it might be information that was ‘infamously’ malleable.
Unless they stated that the firstborn awoke on different days, 4 sylvari each day on each cycle for four days, I don’t see the plot hole. I am asking where this was stated, because I cannot find it (I assume it is in an interview and I would be grateful if someone can point me to it, if true).
1. Trahearne is stated to be the first sylvari.
2. Wynne is stated to be the first night bloom.
Trahearne is never stated to be a night bloom, so the first sylvari to awaken is still him. We now know he cannot be a night bloom, as must be one of the other three cycles.
Now, the luminaries all state they awoke on the first day of their race.
This is where the plot hole might exist. If it was stated that the firstborn awoke on four different days, then that is a plot hole. But if it was not stated, then I am under the assumption that all 12 awoke on one day, 3 per each of the four cycles.
(edited by Plagiarised.2865)
It is mentioned at the start of the Sylvari personal storylines (by each luminary, depending on who you choose to go with).
Unfortunately, these story steps have yet to be documented on the wiki.(it’s on my to-do-list … has been for quite some time to be hounest)
I played through the first story on dawn and day cycle, and they have this to say:
Niamh: I awakened at the zenith of the first day of our race.
Aife: I awakened as the sun rose on the first dawn of our race.
They don’t state they were the first to awaken within their cycle, only that they were one of the first. Is the inconsistency due to an assumption that the firstborn woke up on different days. That, I don’t think is in the game. Is it is some interview?
I also want to reiterate that I’m not arguing; I am just very confused.
I can’t find any information that states the luminaries are the first of their cycle. Where is this located?
I don’t think Trahearne was ever stated to be a night bloom.
I can’t find info that states that the Luminaries are the first of their cycle. Could you provide a link? Not doubting, just curious.
drops the PC/SJW stuff
I dread to ask, but… what are you counting as “PC/SJW stuff”?
Including women? Having a gay romance?
Women? No. The other stuff distracts the writers from what they should really be focusing on.
If by the ‘other stuff’ you are referring to gay romance and their relationships, then I disagree. Nothing is different than any heterosexual romance. Do all romances distract the writers from writing about the evil gods and big bad dragons? If so, should they have omitted Althea and Rurik’s haunting tale? What about the integral romance of Gwen and Keiran? I would argue that they add to the story, just as the gay romances in this game do.
The romances of the sylvari and some humans shows a world were these things aren’t looked at with disgust and prejudice. They are part of the world, accepted for what it is: a relationship between two who care for each other, regardless of gender. That, I believe, does not take away from the story. If those things weren’t in the game, the most hated characters and events would have still occurred. Scarlet, Trahearne, Zhaitan’s last fight. If you disliked the story, that’s fine. But please do not blame it on the “PC/SJW” as you would call it.
The ‘sleeping’ sylvari are tended and cared for by two sylvari named Ceoltoir and Gheimridh. Gheimridh tends to the pods health, making sure they are safe, while Ceoltoir greets those who have newly awakened. The saplings stay in pods while they sleep; still in the Dream. It is recommended to stay very quiet around the sleeping sylvari, especially when the pods are soon to open. The health of the sleeping sylvari were originally cared for by the Pale Tree directly, however, after there have been incidents, the health have been tended by the sylvari. These incidents are said to be simply the act of nature. Sometimes the pod dies, killing the sleeper within- a cause for great sadness.
Source: Ceoltoir and Gheimridh, The Grove.
It is also pointed out by Marjory and the Player that the Zephyrites do defend themselves. As the player states, no culture survives long without learning to defend itself.
Marjory: The Zephyrites always seemed so gentle to me, but these died fighting. There are defensive wounds on their hands and arms, as if they were shielding themselves from their attacker.
Player: No culture survives long without learning to defend itself.
I am a firm believer that the most of the lore comes from the game itself. There is a treasure trove of lore and information in the world. While wiki articles and the books give you the basics, the game would give you much more.
Talk to every person you see. Every persons dialogue is there for a reason: to give you little bits of lore that you gather on your own. In personal story steps talk to everyone before proceeding. Wait around in cities and towns for ambient dialogue. Wait after an event to see what they have to say. It is always very intriguing. This kind of stuff will give you an insight into the races and their culture, how kingdoms view important people, events of the past. Most of the lore in the game has not been recorded in the wiki, do don’t think that is all there is.
-snip-
That’s the one I was looking for, thank you. I only heard the part right when the Ministry Guard left.
The first time I went to the Crown Pavilion this year, I heard snippets of dialogue between Heal-O-Tron, Braham, and Rox.
I was wondering if anyone was able to catch the whole conversation. No matter how long I stay there, I can’t seem to get it to pop.

Technology, Golemancy, ‘Computer screens’, Holographs, and Audio files have all been part of Guild Wars 2 from release. They are nothing new. As lordkrall said, golemancy and asura gates have also been part of the prequel. The advancement of technology is a main theme of this game.
All the technology seen in the Living World Season 1 was already established in the game from launch.

My favorite was the the Tower of Nightmares and the Nightmare Within. The sheer size of the tower just inspired a huge amount of awe. Just looking at it from the outside I said to myself, “Where going into that!?”
The conversation Marjory’s sister comes in and spews some pointless banter
I just wanted to say that none of the conversations were pointless banter. They either: built up Marjory’s character, Belinda’s character, or Marjory’s behavior around family.
The characters heard the roar though, and they are not stupid and thus can draw the conclusion (which they basically did in the latest release).
Yes. It seems everyone heard the roar. The pact are investigating it confirmed by Laranthir of the Wild. And Seraph Belinda’s ‘mission’ to the brisband wildlands has me intrigued. I guess this is where I retract my statement. I’s sorry.
As characters we did not see Mordremoth awaken. We do not know where it is. Signs point to a jungle area but nothing says it in ‘our backyard’. If the dragon does nothing, why would we do anything? If it has a cataclysmic awakening, then why would it be any different to Jormag or Kralkatorrik. I believe we would go after Modremoth, but not straight away and definitely not in Season 2
I don’t understand why we would go after Mordremoth straight away.
Quite interesting observations. I still haven’t gotten in the update yet. Will check it out soon.
I really liked this update. It did a great job in recapping everything and made you feel its all leading somewhere big. The character development was great (Rox’s mate, Taimi’s legs, Braham and his mother, Mai Trin back in the action!) And if it hadn’t been said, the music in the last instance was amazing. THAT gave me goosebumps. I’m truly excited how this will end.
I can totally understand how hidden conversations like this can have its cons, but I like the way they handle it. The most exciting thing for me to do is to find things like this.
Logan can be found after a successful marionette event. He runs into Taimi and chooses to escort her to Lion’s Arch.

Is that all we know? It just showed up and never did anything?
It was part of the Clockwork Chaos event. After Scarlet attacked the jubilee, she barricaded herself within the Crown Pavilion. Vorrp, and emissary from Rata Sum, was able to concluded that she got into the arena through teleportation, and by reverse-engineering he would be able to gain access to the pavilion. To do so, he needed information on the type of magic/technology used. This steam portal was sited in Bloadhollow Bluffs and when examined, Vorrp determined the type of technology used for the teleportation.
Why and how, Scarlet used steam portal to teleport is still unanswered.
The way I understand it is that we learn that the facility was initially intended to study chaos magic but the Inquest pushed the direction of the facility towards dragon magic. They learned that there was a link between the Elder Dragon energy and chaos energy. They concluded that the chaos energy and dragon magic may have a link or even be the same. They also concluded that this magical energy follows a course through the globe and crisscrosses at certain areas. One of these areas was the Thaumanova Reactor. So their study of the two energies at this interception of magical energy is what caused the meltdown.
In my opinion, they need to end the Scarlet story.
I would rather they not end the story prematurely. Let them figure out the kinks through this story before moving on to other stories.
Really? We get a new fractal about how the reactor blew and they stick Scarlet into it??? So if Evon had won and we got the Abaddon fractal, would they have stuck Scarlet into that, too?
You have to understand that Scarlet being there actually makes sense. She had ties to the Inquest, she studied the Eternal Alchemy. It is not far-fetched to think Scarlet would be there.
I also want to reiterate: Scarlet was not the cause of the meltdown. We learn that the facility was initially intended to study chaos magic but the Inquest pushed the direction of the facility towards dragon magic. The Inquest learned that there was a link between the Elder Dragon energy and chaos energy.
Scarlet was not behind the meltdown. She was there when it happened. She even tried to tell the Inquest that the study would be a bad idea. She tried to STOP it.
Xenophobic, attacking and enslaving ALL other species on sight. Yet, out of the blue, they accept Scarlet and join up with the Nightmare Court.
Yes, the krait are xenophobic, but that is the GENERAL POPULACE. They follow the code and teachings of their Oratuss (priest-like individuals). Scarlet tempted the Oratuss’ with the coming of their prophets and gave them obsidian shards as a sort of proof. The Oratuss’ are not the general populace, and are not blinded by their religion (which is what makes the krait so xenophobic), so they took the deal with Scarlet to bring back their prophet (which they believed they were doing; if the Hybrid was or was not is to be debated). The Oratuss’ then convinced the general populace that branch of the nightmare court are on their side. Remember that the Krait do not have a written language and thus go only by what the Oratuss tell them. The Oratuss were manipulating them as much as Scarlet was manipulating the Oratuss.
I just want to reiterate: Scarlet was not the cause of the meltdown. We learn that the facility was initially intended to study chaos magic but the Inquest pushed the direction of the facility towards dragon magic. The Inquest learned that there was a link between the Elder Dragon energy and chaos energy. They concluded that the chaos energy and dragon magic may have a link or even be the same. Yesterday, there wasn’t many people in the tower on my server so I put a call out on the LFG, got four other people and went through the whole tower. Had a blast. Taught everyone the mechanics of the bosses and had great fun. It felt like a dungeon crawler.
Computer: Like you said, it was only mentioned so far at the end of the “sidequest” so to speak. As people translated the line from their languages it was indeed the equivalent for a “computer”. The thing is: Why mention and even let us discover something like this, if it doesn`t have anything to do? Was it just a throwaway line?
It was explained in this livestream [12:00]. Basically the ‘computer’ was a name they gave to the machine mid-way in the Molten Facility.
While I agree there are some things wrong with Scarlet, I do not agree that biological magic is one of them.
Upon entering the Tower, I felt an odd sense of familiarity. And then it hit me. The Steam Portals that most of Scarlet’s minions appear from have an image that is very similar to The Tower.
What do you guys think?
1. Living Story
2. Lore Presentation
3. Role play
The Clocktower is the same as last years except other people appear as spirit orb. The speed, rotation, platforms have not changed one bit. Most people thought it was crazy hard last year because they were just getting used to the movements in the game.
This should get you up to speed with the living story
It is likely there will be a story involved. When watching the reveal, I noticed Rox in the background with some dialogue (which unfortunatly I couldn’t catch in time). Also Arenanet have stated multiple times that revamps to bosses and dungeons would be done with stories that give reason for such things.
What’s interesting to me is what the story will be about. Since the Living World occurs after the personal story. Or would they simply force us to suspend disbelief and think that Tequatl was always this way.
I really liked the Closing Ceremony and I find Scarlet a really interesting character. The instance was really great.
“Don’t panic… yet.”
“See you soon!”
This suggests that this is not over. Not by a long shot. It also suggests that there is a plan to all of this.
“I’ve been laughing my leaves off while your queen brays about “trails” and “endurance.”"
“It’s time to show how fragile human society is.”
Scarlet laughs at the frailty of the Krytan kingdom. A nice touch.
“Oh, and I’ll be taking your queen with me. Hang on, Your Majesty. It’s going to be a wild ride.”
Scarlet has something against Queen Jennah. Why did she attempt to kidnap her? She had a plan.
“I- once- attended- a- Consortium- workshop- on- hostage- negotiation. We- should- cooperate- with- them.”
A nice reference to the events in ‘The Secret of Southsun’.
“Oops, did I say four bombs? I meant five.”
“Goods… She’s bombed our evacuation point. My men… All of those civilians…”
A nice simple twist. From this we can understand she is toying with us, detonating the fifth bomb (morbidly killing all the civilians) after she watches us ‘scurry’ around trying to disarms the first four bombs.
“By the Tree, what have I done? What a monstrous traged- (laughs) Sorry, I just couldn’t keep a straight face.”
This is interesting because she says ‘by the Tree’. You would start to think “would someone with the nightmare court of just downright crazy still be connected to the Dream of Dreams?” But considering she was just faking her empathy, this could’ve just been just part of that.
“Countess Anise’s security measures depended on as few people as possible knowing about them.”
We learn that the crazy transformation was created by Anise as a security measure, not by Scarlet (although she might have tampered with their looks a bit).
“There were indications of a threat, so I concealed the real queen until it revealed itself. Now it has. And it’s spreading.”
Being a Mesmer, the closing ceremony used a Mesmer clone to root out Scarlet. Scarlet was initially after the queen, but why?
“I know of this Scarlet. She earned advanced engineering degrees at each of Rata Sun’s colleges in record time”
“Asura-, charr-, norn-, and even hylek-trained, if you believe the stories. All I know for sure is the she claims to have seen the Eternal Alchemy, and to understand it… which is patently false.”
“Nobody ever “sees” the Eternal Alchemy. That’s like claiming to see the shape of the universe, or to understand how reality works. If it’s beyond every asura genius, it’s beyond her.”
And here’s the best part of this story. Scarlet is mysterious due to her history. She is a sylvari that is supposedly equal to or surpasses asura intellect. She says she has seen the Eternal Alchemy; which has founded the ideology of the Asura- and she claims to understand it. That is very interesting. Vorpp also recognises her so she must be well known in Rata Sum. So what happened in Rata Sum? Did she “see” the Eternal Alchemy which caused colleges to kick her out and pursue Norn, charr and hylek technology? Or did seeing the Eternal Alchemy take a negative effect on her mental wellbeing? This is interesting stuff!
Sadly that video does cut off a conversation between Logan and Rox where they talk about what Rytlock said….maybe someone can find it or quote it?
You can find all the dialog on the wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Opening_Ceremony_Attendee
The second I heard the watchnight say that, I remembered that quest. They did such a great job in this instance.
It will be available for the entire release.

Oh, I see it now. My apologies.
