A confused player...

Unfortunately, people rarely have cause to visit lower level areas (especially Sylvari zones). However, people do tend to come back for parts of their daily achievements. In that case, they’re generally looking for dynamic events happening around the map.

In /map, ask if any events are up. If someone responds, ask for the waypoint. Then you can meet up with others doing some events.

As others have said, Lion’s Arch is a very social place, and is the primary hub for players around Tyria. You can either explore to get there, or simply take a portal (swirly pink circle) from your home city.

Good luck!

Warrior or Guardian for Sunrise?

Hard to say; I guess I would consider which character you’ll be spending the most time on. For me, my guardian is my ‘main’ and that’s who I use for dungeons and fractals. This character needs the top gear that I can find, especially because I’m always in a party and they need me at my best.

I also have a ranger that I use for farming. It’s not a big deal if this character has the super top gear, because I’m just trying to find events to tag mobs and get loot.

So then, in my case, I would absolutely get the legendary on my guardian because that’s the character that I need to have in top shape, and that’s my ‘social’ character. I guess that my advice is to figure out which character is going to play more of a role in your endgame, and choose them. I think that the social-ness of a character plays a huge role in the decision.

Journal to keep notes

I think it would be nice to include a little persistent text box that is specific to each character where you can make notes specifically for that character. This box could either be in the main UI (e.g. under the dailies) or as a tab in the Hero window, or its own window. The point would be to have a quick in-game way to check notes that you’ve made for this character.

I often find myself searching for gear skins and dyes online and wanting to keep track of them somehow. I have made different text files for some characters with these notes, but it would be nice to have an in-game way of doing this.

Another use would be for quick strategy reminders in various situations. For example, for fractals and dungeons, I pretty much exclusively use my guardian. In that case, I would like to have some minor notes on certain fractals, or things to keep in mind for certain fights, etc. And my ranger is mainly for farming, so I would like to keep track of where I’ve gotten Ori nodes, which world bosses I’ve done for this cycle, etc.

While I do not consider this to be a crucial upgrade to the game, I think it would be a helpful tool to add ikittenome point.

Does this armor exist for me to wear?

Only available in the Gem shop. Called “Pirate Captain’s Outfit”

Keep in mind that this is not considered armor. Rather, these are town clothes, which cannot be worn in combat.

That sucks, sorry that you had to deal with that.

PS – Recommending that you remove that ID. Pretty sure it’s against forum rules to call people out by name.

are things gonna get cheaper

What Adine said.

But FWIW, I’ve never seen the price of sigils (or any specialized high-level item) any higher than right now. This is partly because the materials are more scarce (especially when a wave of bots are banned). So, crafting certain sigils/runes/etc becomes a more expensive enterprise, which raises the retail (TP) price.

The only way I can imagine the prices going down from here are either if exotics become easier to farm (which when salvaged can have a change of recovering the imbued sigil), or if better items are introduced into the game, devaluing existing items. I don’t expect either of these things to happen.

I’d say, if you need the money now for other stuff, just sell them off. Even if they double in price 4 months from now it likely isn’t worth it unless you have a lot of them.

Disagree with new Chest Loot

I mostly agree with OP on this topic. However, I don’t necessarily mind the probability of getting rares from the big bosses.

Instead, I have a problem with just how embarrassingly mindless the fights are. There is literally no strategy involved. The zergs have no problem spamming 1 and easily downing dragons. That seems so insanely wrong to me. I was truly surprised when the new patch didn’t include some counters to the ‘sweet spots’ for the dragons (where a mass of players stand in one location that doesn’t get hit by attacks).

I don’t just want loot from the bosses, I want the sense of accomplishment; I want to feel as though people strategically worked together to defeat the most powerful beings in the world. Then I’ll gladly take the rare.

What profession should I get to 80 and main?

I started out as a shortbow ranger. I hit 80 and farmed Orr for a while. This type of ranger can be really boring. It’s no surprise that some shortbow rangers were banned as part of a bot sweep. We literally just do the same thing over and over. It’s cool to play as a ranger (I love ranged attacks), but the class just isn’t super fun, IMO.

Then I started a guardian alt and leveled her up to 80. I really like the idea of playing a support role in a group, so I use an Altruistic Healing build which has worked out well in fractals and dungeons so far. The guardian is nice because you can still contribute to DPS while providing crucial buffs and healing to the party. Of course, that’s not the only build, so I implore you to check out others as well. Guardians seem to be quite versatile, so I’m sure you’ll find something.

Now I’m lvling up a Warrior (currently 51), which has been quite fun because it’s not such a grind. The warrior has great DPS (all zerk gear) and the survivability is pretty good. Once I hit 80, I’ll have to decide how I really want to build her. It seems as though full Zerk Warriors are the only build that groups want for endgame content (but maybe that’s just loud forum people ^^)

I’ve also been lvling a mesmer (now 36). The beginning felt like I was progressing substantially slower than my other professions. I think that this is partly because some of the more useful skills and traits are not unlocked until you level up a bit. But once you do get far enough along, it seems like mesmers have a ton of play to them. Their range with a greatsword is insane, and I’ve survived situations with illusions and skills and well-timed dodging that I never thought I would survive. Those moments and those challenges have made playing a mesmer really rewarding, in contrast to the more melee classes above, which felt like I was simply ramming into mobs continuously and hacking them down.

I hope that this anecdotal evidence helps you decide on a class. Good luck! Once you hit 80, let me know if you want to run a dungeon or fractal

So this war with the centaurs.....

Invading a space and brutally killing off another race that had been living there for generations.

Humans only lived in Kryta for slightly more then 1000 years.

Not sure if we’re talking about the same thing. I’m saying that centaurs were there first, and then Human settlers came and drove them out.

From Wiki page on Centaurs: “…hostilities with humans began in 300 AE when Kryta was settled by Elonian humans.”

That implies that centaurs were living on the land prior to Human settlement.

I’m pretty upset that this is a major conflict and that we have to fight for the side of the queen. It’s not uncommon in western games, but it’s sad to see it so blatantly incorporated into the story.

I play human characters for their aesthetics, but their story line is just so problematic. Invading a space and brutally killing off another race that had been living there for generations. Then the humans claim the land as their own and continue to oppress the centaur clans in the surrounding areas. Not simply defending Divinity’s reach, but actively carrying out campaigns to further annihilate the centaur ranks.

So, the war is not fought over precious resources or an ancient disagreement, but rather the centaurs trying to reclaim the land that was stolen from them.

I wish there was a branching story line that let you aid the centaurs.

Same spiel the Charr have/had against the Humans, basically. What sort of end would you prefer in this particular war, though? If you go with the centaurs’ demands, the Humans would either have to leave completely (to… Orr?) or subject themselves to slavery and/or death.

Through a story chain (probably involving meeting centaur leaders/elders), have the queen ultimately concede that the centaurs were on the land first, and enact laws that allow centaurs to enter Divinity’s Reach (and surrounding territories) without penalty. In fact, an uninhabited district currently exists in Divinity’s Reach. Similar to Elder Scrolls games, there would be bickering between the races, with many humans just showing outright racism to the integrated centaurs. I think ideally, a third force would enter the fray, forcing humans and centaurs to work together in an effort to drive out this third power. Then, with a new integrated population, centaur culture would permeate the strictly-human zones. Anet writers would really need to flesh out the history and flavor of centaurs.

Can I transmute my guild armor many times?

I want to get the guild armor skin for an alt, but I’m not sure if it will transfer via transmutation stone as I level up and upgrade gear.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

If the ‘Gatherer’ portion is permanently required in dailies, then it might be fun to have a gathering minigame which could take care of that requirement.

Thanks for the link.

The people without access to the app would continue as usual. The app wouldn’t add much benefit to the user (max 500-1000 karma per day) — something easily accomplished in ~20-30 minutes in the core game, but might take many hours on the app. It would just be like playing an extremely small sliver of the game when you don’t have full access.

Introducing partner to GW?

I was curious as to how some of you introduced GW to a partner, and how they enjoyed it. My GF really enjoys games like Animal Crossing and Happy Street (iOS), and can grind the hell out of those games. I’m not sure if GW2 is too much of a step up in complexity to her usual style, but I’d like to offer her the chance to play if she’s up for it.

Also, how might she start up? That is, what types of game elements would be best for an introduction to the game (and the genre)? For example, there’s no way that I’m going to start her up by talking about TP or similar things. I would try to relate the tasks that does in her current-fav game (Happy Street) to GW2 by emphasizing the materials gathering and early crafting, as well as going around low level areas and exploring and armor dyes.

What would be the best race? I imagine that either Asura or Norn would be ideal — Asura because they’re cute and silly, but also because Felicia Day does some voice acting, and my GF is a huge fan. Norn would be good because, at least early on, the quests involve turning into animals and stuff.

Anyways, let me know what you think; I’m really eager to hear suggestions/stories.

I think it would be really fun to have an app that has some kind of mini games or puzzles or something similar that would benefit your characters in some way. This would be so nice for those times on the bus or in between tasks.

The payout could be karma, maxing out at 500-1000 per day or something like that. Just the idea of helping my account in some very small way by playing mini-games sounds so sweet.
