It is 5th post about GS i see in last few days. If you like aggressive play and power build then GS Sword/pistol or GS Sword/sword are your only choice. Try to run after someone with scepter or staff. Staff Scepter/torch cond build works only against aggressive idiots. When i see staff scepter/torch mesmers i laugh at them and run away.
I agree with OP we have huge issue with GS DPS depending on distance. Every war or guard when see you with GS immediately goes to close combat and stays on top of you. GS 1 mediocre GS 3 useless but i don’t see better option.
Some thieves run from me, some I was able to take time and laugh at them during the fight and some kill me every time. As a class thieves can kill every other class in 1v1 fights. In reality it depends on the player. If every thief kills you sorry to say it but you suck as a mesmer. Try war. It is easy mode.
For WvW i would roll smallest asura possible. In PVE it is kinda irrelevant. I prefer human girl toon. They look best in light armor
I have one very good tip. DON’T GO TO ARAH.
I can run P1 P3 AC, TA UP and COF P1 all together faster then mediocre group runs P1 or P3 in Arah. If you already have DM why returning to that miserable place with long runs not interesting boss fights and bunch of idiots half of them have no idea what they are doing and other half is “hardcore kittens” who kick you out for slightest mistake.
Question. Which consumable form LA gives swiftness and cost 20s?

Jar you need to read skill tooltip. Reason behind PU not +1 additional sec of invis. Reason is boons. You get aegis, protection regen. It is random but you always get aegis. Aegis=block any attack and then get regen or protection -33% dmg. Problem with any ground thingys like mortars anyone with half a brain just step few steps back and avoid all your attack or destroy all pretty flowers with AOE attack. That is same reason i dislike Iwarden. Unless you pull enemy within warden reach it is useless.
Second reason to use Massinvis is escape. I newer run from 1v1 fights. See no reason coz usually running means you end up using WP dead or alive:). But i hate being kitten d by zergs or groups and i run from them. Mass invis makes it easy.
Currently all armor is cheap. Get 2-3 sets and try it. I recomend full zerk with zerk trinkets for PVE. Change skills according to the task you do. I usually change my skills during dungeon runs at list 2-3 times. Some like blink decoy massinvis good for Arah COF TA running but worthless during fights. Feedback is our best skill in dungeons. With pistol on longer boss fights you can become highest dmg dealler in the group. 2-3 pistol phats traited do crazy DMG. Try to use different weapons see what feels more comfortable.

Low power, low+ crit DMG. High crit chance wasted. Cond build for PVE just stupid. It is slow for solo. Cond caped and other classes do it better. Basically your cond dmg even in medium cond group is wasted. I am not asura but use a quote from one in the game. Your build is stupid and it won’t work in PVE and WVW. SIghnet as heal works in PVE but very bad in WVW. Last but not list. WTF with sigils? Check what stack together what not. Your sigils do not stack. Elite racial skills are for total noobs. If you are trying to have PU build use all invis you can.
Read Osicat posts and watch his vids. He explains a lot of things in details.

GS #5 is fine. It’s the Shadow Refuge counter.
The only GS skill that I feel requires a buff is #3. Make it a blast finisher. That’ll be enough.
Agree 100%. GS 5 is perfect as is and it is #1 skill against thieves.
I don’t like GS 1 scaling up or down with distance especially when fighting smart war or guard. They stick on you as a glue as soon as see GS.
I newer use 3 in any 1v1.
If notes i have seen are reliable then AT is being buffed with insta cast. That will make skill awesome and must have. As of right now it is waste of space. Between rate of failure and long cool down after few weeks of trying to use it i newer put it in my skill bar anymore.
Because people think it’s Overpowered, and rightfully…it sorta is. It’s extremely hard to beat a PU mesmer using Guardian/Warrior/Ranger/Engi/Elementalist/Necro, but I generally just switch to P/D thief and destroy them if they are annoying me. Fire with lava. P/D always wins.
That was stupid thing to say. I killed a lot of P/D thieves. Only good thieves can kill my mes in 1v1. I don’t think you are one otherwise you would know killing good PU power and especially cond troll mesmer is not easy.
My latest shatter build deal some wery good burst, have superb mobility, some strong cc and stack vuln for your teammates to use for burst.

My power PU build is not a standard defensive “hide in stealth passive aggressive” but high mobile high burst aswell. Just cause a build have PU it don’t have to be a defensive condition build.
Same here. Not all PU builds are cond Scepter/T Staff. My PU is power based Sword/P Gs. I usually run full zerked set of trinkets. Armor depends on situation i change from full zerk with traveler runes for solo runs and 1v1 fights to Dire with speed runes for groups or Zerg guild runs. Cond builds are nice only against stupid and aggressive ppl.
How about adding more skills that actually do dmg to a mesmer not just Support none dmging skills..
Ive rly had enough of getting pounded by thieves in wvw after ive spent like 100’s of gold on my Toon…. and one thief can just easily Solo me without trouble…
and it doesnt matter what i do or use it just fails each time..
Sorry but i don’t understand what 100g you spend has to do with ability to kill anyone and especially thieves? You can be in fully ascended armor but good player can kill you naked.
Good thief 1v1 almost always kill you. It is in game mechanics. Unlike you he has an option to reset. You don’t. Mobility and more stealth. You can’t outrun thief unless there is a some kind of shelter like a tower near by.
I win about 50% fights against thieves and about 70-80% against other classes. GS 5 pushes thieves from SR, pistol off hand 5-4, Sword 3 – 2 you should be very fast or use macros. ANd shatter.
100g hehe. My mesmer has 4 sets of armor, every ascended weapon 1 of armor sets is fully ascended. Do your math. It doesn’t make me a better player just gives me tiny advantage.
Ross it is 3rd post i see with same vid. Why are you so proud? That guy just an idiot who could run away or kill you easily enough if he had been a bit better. That vid teaches only 1 thing. aggression and stupidity together newer ends well.
Last thing i wonna say here. Thieves are not worst 1v1 opponents. Good engys is much worst. We are lucky not a lot of ppl can master it and 80% of engys suck but if engy is good he can kill everyone in 1v1.

I usually run power PU. Almost all zerked with 2-3 dire trinkets to keep cond dmg at about 500 in WVW. I simply ignor cond PU mesmers with torch and staff. Fighting them is boring. Running after them is stupid. Hate trolls. With all perks my attack is 3600-3800 in WVW. I have 16 sec on my pistol and CS phats. I do more direct dmg comparing to almost every class. I can’t compete with full glass thievs or fully Zerked wars but if no one kills my phats and i have 3 of them hitting same target my guess i can outdps even them.
What i don’t understand is why everybody saying PU is OP. First it is 30 points for 1 additional sec of invis. Protection and aegis is nice but i can live without it. With or without PU in WVW i will always run Decoy and Massinvis while running solo or with small group.
PU build is pure WVW. No point to use it in PVE. Topic is pointless. Run regular zerk build, good support mantra build or shatter.
Too bad condition PU is soooooo booooooring. I’d spread out the condition damage on the other stats and boost crit damage to ~75%.
With direct damage it doesnt matter if you loose a fight – its still going to be an epic fight. Basing your style around hiding in stealth while conditions tick… not so much epic.
I run that. It is fun but if i fight another mes with enough skills, cond + power build with more vit and tough comparing to me usually loose if can’t kill him very quick. And even with all my DPS i usually can’t unless hit him from the back. While we can similarly avoid DMD he has more invis time and his cond eat me if fight goes long enough. Also my build has no clones to hide behind only phantasms. GS2 and Decoy clones you can’t compare with mirror images and Deceptive evasion.
My build is very good against almost any class in the game besides another mesmer:)

It is troll build. 1v1 no one can kill you. Can you kill anyone is questionable? Depends on how well they can manage cond and how aggressive they are. In my experience smart ppl prefer to run away. Yourself can run away at anytime during almost any fight with correct skills time management. Of course if you insist to stay and fight to the end there is a good chances to die against skillful player but he who fights then runs away live to fight another day .
Skills can be easily changed for Zerg runs. You can run exelent support with veil mantras and follow commander close.
To be honest i hate that build. Do it only for zergs or with group of thieves. It is boring as hell.
How about no clones? If you have shatter build then shatter clones right away or go with phat build.
Timewarp is very good skill for Zrked good group otherwise it is waste. When COF P1 was farmable 1 mes and 4 Zerked wars with Timewarp signet of inspiration feedback null field and illusion of life could run it very fast. Now i feel like Timewarp is a waste of space with pugs. For TA and Arah runs mass invis is must to have especially in groups with no thieves.
Feedback always good in dungeons. Decoy is a life line. Illusion of life can be helpful sometimes. Do few runs and see which skills are most useful for you and group. I recomend to use GS and Sword/sword or Sword/Pistol and Phantasm build for dungeons. Scepter is underpowered tho i like it against some bosses when it is 100% ranged fight Scepter/Pistol. Staff useful only with signet of inspiration to transfer chaos armor and boons to whole party.
Runes of Divinity. Why? I also run 20/20/30/0/0 sometimes but traits are very different. Use rune of speed or traveler. Travelers are very similar to Divinity but have +25% speed and boon duration for very little 4% crit chance difference.
You traited only one weapon and this one is not a weapon but more like utility tool.
If you are looking for survival it is wrong build and if you are looking for decent DPS it is wrong build.
Take v and vii in chaos. Much better in WVW. I use GS and S/ pistol and trait all instead of torch. MAD dps but less survival. Signet suck. If someone decide to kill illusions +50% clone hp not really helps ie makes signet waste of space. I run Mass invis, decoy, mantra to remove cond (4 cond removal tool) and usually blink for additional mobility.

Zerk for everything included words pve or solo. Can be mixed with some assassin or knight if necessary. Dire for WVW cond troll build. Runes of speed or better traveler.
There is a lot of different good builds for solo pve. I like 25/20/0/25/0 for phantasms with full zerk or mixed Zerk/Assassin armor weapon set. Or you can go shatter. Or you can use mine 20/20/30/0/0 which combines very good dmg with some additional survivability.
GS is best solo PVE weapon. I like S/P as a second set where is S can be sword or scepter. It is up to you. Some ppl like S/S.
Torch, staff are more WVW PVP weapons for certain builds. More or less useless in everyday PVE.
Have no comment on the build. Maybe you’ll be able to surprise him. I newer use that build before and not big on PVP dueling. My experience comes from WVW and it is very different. I like traveler runes more tho against thief runes of speed provide more vit. I also dislike sigil of fire. Try some other sigil that proc on swap. Chilling or bleeding could be better. Fire is about 1 k and cooldown is much longer comparing to specification at list in my experience.
Personally i very rare able to kill good thief in 1v1 fights. Luckily for me good thief is rare enough creature
I have same 20/20/30/0/0. This build is exelent for anything. Works well in WVW and PVE. Everything Zerk mixed with few knight. Armor should be close to 2500, HP 16-17 k and with bloodlust + oil+food attack goes over 3500. It is not really good for Zerg runs especially if you wonna follow commander close and it is not forgives any mistakes.
I run it with Scepter/pistol and GS. I don’t like sword in WVW. It is good in PVE tho.
My favored part is no need to retrain every time for different tasks.
There is much better DPS builds for PVE or dueling also better WVW survival cond builds. If you are interested look on forum. Sometimes when i wonna troll ppl in WVW with group of thievs i go 0/20/30/20 in DIre armor and trinkets. It has 14 sec of invis none stop, ower 2k cond dmg 25k hp and 3k armor. Scepter/torch + staff.
I am not really see an issue here. If any server you are fighting with can hold this camp long enough to make sense for your server to drain supply then you are beyond help anyway. Reason to build Treb there is to take out small to medium enemy group with seige while you are being outnumbered.
Comparing to ppl opening accounts on other servers in order to drain supply from keeps and towers or using zoom and speed i hacks it is really not a problem worth mentioning.
How did you get in? Cata? Kudos on having bolls trying to take keep solo and ROFL on using staff on champ. Considering your weapons choice you are build to run in zerg or group not solo.
It remind me my last Kaineng days when i could run across any BL and see nobody besides NPC and even they look bored.
I left Kaineng 6 month ago. It was already dead in WVW. Still missing my DD guild but JQ has best and friendliest WvW community.
Sorry to say it to you but there is no option besides leaving. Kain in nearest future not going up in WVW. Servers need at list 4-8 good WvW guilds to cover all maps and all WVW guilds left Kain in T2 while we where loosing to BG. WM CO and few others.
Mesmer Aoe: Staff 5, GS 5, feedback, clones. If you need something additional use sigil of fire or torment with AOE proc on crit.
I am not against mesmer receiving better Aoe skill Just think your reason for it kinda kittened. Bags lol. Seriously? Who goes to WVW for loot? Join mindless robots running FS champ train or do few easy Dungeon runs if you need money then go to WVW to kill ppl and have fun. I spend 1-2 g on upgrades, siege, food and repairs in WVW within 2 hours.
Guess i would have to kill whole BG and SOR Zergs few times over to cover my expenses with lootbags
I personally do one COF P1 run a day to cover WvW expenses. Mesmer can run it in 7-10 min with half decent group.

OP your post speak so much truth it hurts.
OP has no idea what he is talking about. That is main reason why it hurts. For example. Mesmer doesn’t have 17 sec of invis every 30 sec. If i use all my invis one after another starting with shortest cooldown it would be 20- 30 sec break untill invis is up again. Not a lot of mesmers run with torch which makes time in invis -4 sec and cooldown longer. Even less run veil unless in zergs. Basically i have decoy and mass invis 50% of time up. Sometimes changing MI for MOA especially against thievs, necros and wars. Decoy is 3 sec on 40 seconds cooldown. Spam that.
Wars currently have only one OP skill. It is running away:) It is good all around class but not OP.
Cond necros are my favored walking loot bag with arcane thievery and mantra i can return 3 cond and clean 4 more in a sec while my phats are ripping necro apart.
Guardian being OP. It is laughable class in 1v1 fights unless they use 1 build with focus and even then 90% guards are just another loot bag for any high DPS class. That focus burst guardian build is not very good in zergs.
Not all thievs are running around with 9k HP and 6-10k backstab. Some are very good to survive in large scale fights with useful utilities.
Basically unless you have all lvl 80 classes and good with all of them do not make general bullcrapping assumption on forum.
I heard Anet is reseting everyone’s World Rank to 100 when they go live with world rank being account bound. This way everyone starts fresh and “fair”. To ease the pain of losing your world rank, they will add in a leaderboard…

I have seen another plat guy also from SOR tho. Thief. My highest WvW rank is 307 and i almost newer do any PVE or use alts in WVW for last 6 month when i am playing. I got very quickly to 250 on low population server. 10 ppl zerg could take every tower on EB within 30 min – 1 hour time frame on regular day. Now on JQ every rank is a pain:) You guys should think about it this way. Doesn’t matter how nerdy you are and how little life you have that guy has even less
I think classes are balanced as close as it is possible in MMO. Each has a place and things to do. Wars tho more versatile comparing to other classes but class is not as OP as it was prior to last nerf.
What not balanced is players skills and experience. But it is not up to Anet. Try different classes, choose which one you like play it as well as you can and stop whining.
I used to WvW on Guardian then on War, now i do it on mesmer. Love every minute of it. I win 70+% of 1v1 fights and can outsurvive wars and guards in Zergs. Know your class know your place in zerg. If you are clothy do not run immediately behind pin in hammer train and if you do do not cry about being dead all the time.
One thing i hate about wars lol. Those guys can run like there is no tomorrow.

Not sure if treb was nerf along with it but for some reason this change had been reverted. Catas and trebs are able to damage through gates now. I think letting siege hit through the gate is good though because offense had already been buffed too much by the introduction of ram mastery.
2 ac can deal the same amount of damage as a treb and cost 60% the supplies to build so I hardly think a treb behind gate is op.
AC deal puny dmg to rams and easy to destroy by big zerg AOI. It is impossible to compare Treb to AC . Even AC placed inside tower behind the gate is easy to destroy and does almost no DMG to zerg outside. Currently treb is one thing that keep towers from being flip in the same rate as camps. Do you really wonna see every tower change hands every 10-15 min?

I have seen few threads about it but almost all are old. I just finish map on my mesmer. It is my third map completion please do not ask me if am sure i have 100%. I have 100% including Bloodtide cost chamber of secrets. All WP Vistas POI SP and hearts are done. World map clearly show 100%. Newer got star on mesmer and no gift of exploration. I open in game ticket yesterday. Curios how long does it usually takes to solve it?
I have few ideas how this bug was triggered. It is Anet fault for adding new WP and PoI on maps i had completed long time ago. I got all of them last but coz it was on already completed maps something didn’t work right.
As usual too much information or too little. If you are about to do maps on mesmer then start with runes. I recommend traveler. Expensive but worth it. So far i can’t find better rune and it is good for WVW as well. There is few better runes for pure DPS but 25% speed bonus for mesmer is a huge deal. Berserk armor, maybe mixed with few knight or PTV items for survival but not necessary. Full zerk armor is OK on mesmer in almost any environment.
Weapons. Sword/pistol and GS. It can be Sword/Focus as well but i prefer pistol off hand. Focus is good to reflect projectiles and running but with Traveler rune in PVE you newer need it. Still it helps to have focus in inventory for some dungeons. Warden and duelist roughly give about same DPS.

This build basically provide maximum ranged DPS and fastest GS phats recharge time.
Healing- Signet of the Ether should work like a charm for this build as long as you can keep 3 phantasms alive all the time. Skills :Blink, feedback, decoy. Elite: mass inviz.
Please note. It is solo PVE build you are not good for anyone but yourself.
Skills and traits can be easily changed tho for almost any dungeon group without visiting trainer.
I was trying some different variants of this build in WVW. Keeping 20/10/0/25/15 and tweaking traits and skills. Don’t really like it. Comparing to my usual WvW 20/20/30/0/0 this build gives less survival in mass combat even with 2 cond removals and less escape chance.
