Those skills affect friendlies, they don’t target them. Even merciful intervention doesn’t actually target friendlies.

Well Glyph of Renewal targets friendlies. Unless they changed it since the last time I used it/

Looking at the wiki, the tooltips show a radius. I’m not ingame so I can’t test it, but that implies to me that they are aoe skills, not target-based.

Here’s what i use. the interrupt build is a lot of fun to play. You’re very weak against people that use conditions though, so try to avoid those types or slot in some condition removal.

I feel like this build would be better off slotting Empowered Illusions and taking Mantra of Resolve instead tbh. Also, are the Ranger Runes meant to be slotted? The wiki page even specifically states illusions don’t trigger the sixth slot.

The ranger runes do affect your personal damage though, which is the main reason why i have them. This makes them a better choice than scholar runes in opinion (And it’s my PvE set.)

With personal damage i meant the damage dealt from my own abilities such as blurred frenzy.

I know what you meant. You’re still wrong. Go test it out if you want. Use steady weapons in HotM.

The funny thing is he is traited rifle too. This char kills more stealthers with kill shot and volley in a group than any of my other L80. Channeled attacks own thieves. Mesmers are super easy I just shoot the clones and the attacks pierce right through to the Mesmer.

And no I don’t run him solo he is a Zerg spec only. This game isn’t played solo. If I need to scout I have a thief and a Mesmer.

Honestly, that’s pretty cute. There’s enough projectile reflects going around in any competent group that the only thing you’ll be doing with rifle is killing yourself.

Additionally, saying that mesmers are easy because you just shoot the clones immediately tells us that you run him outside of zergs…because clones don’t survive in zergs.

War or Guard if you really intend to take your zerg into fights. Do you understand how it works? You as commander is the target for all friendly AOE.That is how used to tell it one smart person. Put a target on commander and hit him like he owns you money and refuse to repay. You are not standing on the side and DPS with GS but actually go in the middle of enemy hammer train.

Yep, and that’s why you need to use a build that can survive that. It’s not impossible to do, warriors and guardians don’t have a monopoly on zerg survivability, you just have to be careful about it. Used properly, this build will get you through the hammer train alive and healthy.

The biggest question for PvE is:

When I ‘interrupt’ a champion that has defiant stacks traits like Halting Strike, Chaotic/Bountiful Interruption will trigger.
What happens when I can’t interrupt a skill but cooldown it while it’s being casted? :o

This is actually something we speculated about on the podcast. I concluded that…we don’t know. There’s no mechanic in the game currently that does something like that, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

HoD has been running an EB queue 24 hours since reset (almost). There has been a handful of hours where EB isn’t full but they have been really sparse and even without the queue EB is still “full”. I don’t know what FA or YB looks like but I haven’t been on a server with those kinds of numbers ever. Strange to see 100+ man queue at 5AM server time.

FA has had an EB queue all the times I’ve been on. Sometimes it’s only ~15 people, but it’s there.

30. Focus Master.

  • Phantasmal Warden’s kills do not count towards the Focus Master Achievement, thus leaving Mesmers without the ability to obtain it.
  • Corresponds with Phantasmal Disenchanter not counting towards Daily Condition Removal.
  • Contradicts with illusions counting against In Tune achievement during Holo fight.

This isn’t a focus limited problem. None of the phantasms for any weapon count towards that weapon’s mastery achievement.

Anyone to confirm underwater mimic?

This does happen, but I’m hesitant to call it a bug. All underwater versions of skills have significantly lower cast times. Only with mimic does this happen to be a bad thing though.

Three things to learn from this thread:

1) A mesmer’s best defense is a good offense.
2) A mesmer’s second-best defense is prevention-before-cure.
3) A mesmer must be capable of predicting what their enemy will do.

In fewer words, this means that mesmer doesn’t have as much active defense as other professions and we have to learn to deal with that. ArenaNet feels this is fair (apparently) because we have a higher amount of passive defense. Once you learn how to predict, you no longer have to react.

While this is kittened, it does mean that playing mesmer will make you better at every other profession.

Hm. I’m not sure I just read the same thread as you did. I read a thread that was full of suggestions to use the unbelievably abundant active defense that mesmer has available to avoid damage.

This is the build i am currently looking at. Though kind of a worry not having PU or DE in the build. Now if that bug is correct i would get like 2,600 every shatter. That would be rather nice.

Not sure about the food or other Sigils.
What would you guys change?

It’s pretty bad, honestly.

First off, you’ve got quite literally 0 access to condition removal. Some highly offensive shatter builds will run this way fully understanding that they need to kill things really fast in order to survive. Your build doesn’t have this self-awareness, and it seems to be an oversight.

Secondly, how exactly do you intend on doing damage at all? You’ve got phantasmal haste, as if your phantasms are supposed to do damage. You’ve got precise wrack and illusionary persona, as if your shatters are supposed to do damage. However, your stats don’t even begin to approach something that is offensive (17% crit chance, 1650 power), and you have incredibly low illusion generation due to a lack of DE. Unfortunately, you also have a highly offensive weaponset of GS+s/p. This means that your options for active defense are limited.

So lets recap. You have almost no offense to speak of. Your phantasms won’t hurt. Your shatters won’t hurt, and you won’t be able to shatter often. You have very little active defense, so it’ll be hard for you to avoid damage. You have 0 access to condition removal. Pretty much the only thing your build does effectively is heal. Unfortunately, since you have no offensive pressure and very few ways to actually avoid damage, any decent player will kill you anyway, it’ll just take longer.

Not really a fan of the staff. Decoy is nice but i am talking about defense after you have taken a 6k back stab. With my ele i would go Water and be pretty much full health in seconds. Mesmer doesnt seem to have any of that. Even the new Heal they got is kinda weak seeing as its every 3 seconds.

Firstly, you’re not talking about actual defense, you’re talking about recovery. Defense prevents you from taking the hits, recovery allows you to keep going after taking them. Mesmer has both.

On mesmer, you shouldn’t be taking that 6k backstab. You should dodge it with blurred frenzy, block it with the sword or scepter block, aegis it with chaos storm, let a clone eat it with deceptive evasion, etc.

However, in the event that you do take the backstab, you’ve got a lot of options for recovery. First, mesmers have a ton of access to the regeneration boon, so that’s just sorta a static ticking that will heal you. Additionally, the mesmer main heal ether feast will heal for 7500 health with 3 illusions, scaling 1.3 with healing power. This is a huge chunk of health, even for a class with medium hp. On top of that, if you so choose, you can trait to do aoe heals of 2600 every time you charge a mantra.

Looking at ele skills, ether renewal heals for 5000. However, that’s over a long, easily interruptable 4s channel. You can also trait to heal for about 1.2k when you attune to water, can trait to heal for 1.2k when you dodge in water, can use skills that heal you for between 800 and 1.2k (trident, cone of cold, cleansing wave, geyser). However, when you do this you sacrifice all offensive capability, burn multiple long cooldowns, and are potentially forced into several specific traits and traitlines. Mesmer just needs to press their main heal.

@Xyonon: I don’t know about you, but I can tell you right now that I’m never ever going to do a full trait reset in the middle of a run. Unless they implement templates, it’s simply not worth my time to try and fiddle with traits while running to the next fight. I already do that with my major traits, I’m not going to do full retraits.

Yeah, in my (extremely limited) experience using glue shot, I’ve noticed that it actually functions really nicely as a zoning/area deterrent skill rather than something that actually secures kills. People don’t like walking through it, so you can toss it on chokes or on points to enhance pressure.

Rock solid, ether renewal, triple cantrips, tornado, about face+burning retreat, dodge in water, are all things I had in my spec to be able to easily kite away from 5 people. It’s not hard at all. People are arguing everything but the topic and it’s really just pathetic.

Moa lasts too long. And you should at least be able to use utilities in the form. It’s not some huge thing to ask. It’s 1 skill that you use once in a while to be a troll. Are you really afraid to have something nerfed?

If you’re so pro at kiting, timing a single dodge should be easy for you. I know I’m always wary of moa when running away from a group with a mesmer, and since it’s such a flashy cast, it’s easy to dodge.

People are responding to quotes that aren’t mine.
I had 5 people chasing me when I got moa’d, meaning dodge, 5, dodge, wasn’t an option. I got immob’d at the exact same time as the moa got on me.
I have everything in wvw wxp ranks maxed out, and no dungeon master/crap title here.

The problem lies with the duration of moa, combined with the complete lockout of all survivability skills. I did not “give up when moa’d”. You can stop trying to educate me on how to play, when there is no excuse for this skill to work the way it does. It’s cheesier than backstab, killshot, and perplexity runes.

If you had 5 people chasing you, then you should be dead unless they’re completely incompetent and/or you’re incredibly pro.

Obviously you weren’t incredibly pro, or you’d have dodged moa.

FA lost two guilds, but their NA was T1 quality and almost in quantity before that. Make no mistake, your NA’s are going to get wrecked in the face by them. SoS had added most of Kaineng’s and Ehmry Bay’s NA, plus TW and NS; and we still ticked low against their NA.

After seeing what DB’s NA brought to the table this week; I promise that HoD will not be able to do jack against them; no matter how many maps they queue.

Chris, stay on SoS. Their NA really isn’t doing much wrecking these days. Actually, they have been doing most of their damage in EU (as well as pulling some good numbers in OCX and SEA). The score is closer than they would like, and no one is backing down in this match.

IoJ, SBI, and FA have been having some great fights, and even though someone will win the coverage wars, no one has backed down yet.

Don’t get me wrong, SBI and IOJ have been putting out an inspired performance. I’m actually quite impressed with how well they’ve been competing.

That being said, the score doesn’t lie. FA has had 50% or greater of total PPT for a large majority of the match. We’re going to win handily, but I’m honestly really happy that SBI and IOJ are intent on giving us competition. It makes the season worth playing. Nobody likes PvD.

Hmm I see it could help in some cases, like you get stuck in an open area and such. But what if you get stuck inside a wall (as happened to me that i mentioned above)? I wasn’t really “stuck” as I could walk, but I was stuck “into” a walk. I could walk around but I couldn’t go anywhere out of that wall. /dance wasn’t going to help me in that case.

Well, those are 2 separate bugs. This thread is discussing the bug wherein you get locked and can’t move after a blink. If you actually get stuck inside geometry, that’s a totally different thing. Inside geometry is much more rare, they’ve fixed the majority of those problems. It used to be really really bad at launch.

now that the tournament is ongoing (yes I guess it is still too early), and base on the scores right now, what are your (new) rankings?

also can anyone show your servers reset queues? (screenshots would be preferred)

FA has had EBG queues usualy around 30-50 on primetime, with under 10 or so on the BLs.

SBI and IOJ are putting up a decent fight, but they’re not going to win it.

Is mimic getting fixed on April 15?

“Fixing” it mostly refers to stacking agony on things in fractals, so basically pve nerfs.

As to it actually happening during the patch, who knows, there hasn’t been any definitive word on it.

I thought that was fixed a while ago.

This is happening to me on my mesmer continually… at the worst times, of course.

It happens only when I’m fighting, case retreat usually – though it has happened when I wasn’t doing anything, but always where there is combat.

It really stinks to have to relog, reenter queue, re-stack, catch up with your party, or worse, if you’re commanding and have to all of the above.

How about a temp /unstuck command or something until you guys figure out what this is?

Why do you make a 100% unbreakable command available to mesmers in WvW?
No other class can do this.
It lasts 10s. That’s way too long.

Well, stop playing in ‘Zerker’ armor for WvW and you will survive.

I’ve seen no good arguments made about why it should last 10s and be irremovable.
I do know about the 5 skill. That’s hilarious that that was even mentioned. And I definitely do not roam in zerkers. Full ascended 4 pvt/2 celestial, cav trinkets. Trav runes. All the wvw stacks. I can see that I will only get trolled from the mesmer community, but this skill clearly needs to be changed.

Have you tried dodging?

If you come with these arguments, don’t expect people to take you seriously.

Every profession has its strengths and its weaknesses, just learn to deal with them. Mesmers are not harder than any other profession.

PD: Thank god you didn’t start playing at game release. Back then, mesmers were stronger than now.

OP, you are an extremely inexperienced player. This is why mesmer confuse you so badly. As you continue to play and get better, you’ll be able to understand how mesmers work and how to play against them. Until then, I recommend that you refrain from crying about losing on the forums, as you’ll just get trolled because your inexperience shows through rather clearly.

That was an impressively long post. I’ll give you a bit of a fit to back through all that when I say this, but here you go:

Through testing, I’ve determined it is not effectively possible to skillfully interrupt a skill that has lower than 3/4 second cast time. 3/4 second is hard but doable depending on cast animation.

Many of the skills you have listed there are not effectively interruptable.

OK, but it’s sort of the same with when they introduced the WXP rank chests. The lootz in the chests change. There was a certain value attached to the loot in the previous chests that will no longer be attainable in that same way to the lower ranked player.

You also missed the part where going from 70-72 took effort equal to going from 1-80 post patch.

So 2-4k damage damage over 7 seconds per full shatter, not including might and confusion, ain’t nothing to sneeze at.
And with the fixes to Illusionary Elasticity, it would double your staff clone damage.

Yeah, it’s going to hit pretty hard.

Just keep in mind that a power shatter will do 2-3.5k damage per clone and instantly, not subject to condition removals or -duration gear/food.

WvW season 2 not even started and I don’t come any near getting into WvW within my available time window of approx. 3 hours/weekday…how are we supposed to participate in the upcoming content?

The solution is to not stack on already overstacked servers. There’s only one person to blame for having a massive queue in WvW, and it’s you.

@Pyro I’ve been running 30/10/30/0/0 CS, BI, CI build in PvP. As far as I can tell the F to stomp/Res does not have a CD attached to it. In all reality I do not see Power Lock as being better than CS. The chance to stun which stops everything happening movement etc. Powerlock just keeps one certain skill on double the CD and is dependent on interrupting. CS is just based off dazes and not interrupts….

Well, that’s the thing. Did they code it to say ‘on interrupt, add 5 to cooldown’? If so, then you could potentially lock things like autoattacks…and thief skill…for 5 seconds.

I’ve actually been playing a bit of an aoe interruption build the past few days, just to see what sort of interrupts I could pump out. I was cautiously optimistic based on the pretty strong amount of interrupts I was able to do, but then I realized something.

A huge amount of my interrupts were interrupting stomps or ressing. People naturally gather up during those activities, so it was a simple matter to strip stab and throw them around. However, stomping and ressing aren’t skills. They can be interrupted, but you start them with a ‘press f to execute action’. As far as I know, there’s no mechanic in the game other than a knockdown that can prevent you from using that.

Will Power Lock put those actions on kitten cooldown? If so, it could have some extremely interesting possibilities. I suspect that it won’t, but one can hope.

Ultimately, the rank levels in PvP were out of line with all other forms of progression in this game, on the same level as the ultimate xxx from WvW. Now they’re being changed to make sense in the perspective of GW2 achievements, not GW1 achievements.

When push comes to shove, they’re kittening off maybe 20 people with this change. They don’t care about your tears, this is for the greater good.

The Engineer and Necromancer have limited condition removal so a good immobilize and their day is ruined.

You’re joking, right?

After reading the posts you’ve made here and looking at your posting history, I’ve formed a slightly different idea of why you find these classes so hard to fight.

You’re a very inexperienced player. All 3 of these classes punish inexperienced players quite a lot. However, most players simply try to get better, while you feel it sufficient to simply come to the forums and cry for nerfs.
