The absolute only way to ever “break” the idea of berserker is to eliminate the stat combo. Otherwise, no matter how questionable it is, people will still pick it simply because it’s the most damage. If the game had launched without the stat combo we wouldn’t likely care too much but taking it away now is just going to cause an uproar.
Keep in mind, the thought isn’t to abolish berserker players but rather to break up this so-called berserker meta. Which, btw, doesn’t actually exist. There’s a small handful of players that live and die by it but the vast majority of players play whatever they want. Sometimes it can feel like the majority because we all post here on the forums but in reality we are a very small section of the GW2 community.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Should just make the stance like Dragon stance in that all the abilities pulse from the player. Call it Ventari’s Will. Let us move around the battlefield instead of constantly worrying about tablet placement.

Adapt or leave GW2. I dunno what else to say.

Hybrid build Sinister armor with runes of undead – Sentinel jewelry – zerker GS, Sinister Scepter/dagger
Heal: idk…
CPC, Epidemic, YAAW, Plague elite
Curses: 3,1,3
Reaper: 2,3,2
Soul Reaping: 1,2,3
So I have no idea on the rotation between GS and Reaper. Right now I just don’t see a reason to use GS except for the utility of blind and pulling. Is it because of the build I’m running or what?
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
There’s no interesting decision made when you can attack without the threat of retaliation. It’s just basic design. I don’t know how else to say it. The only thing I could say to back up your argument is that if the player feels it’s unfair, even if it’s not, then the interaction needs to be changed in some way that better communicates the intent.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Well first of all this isn’t oppression or a communist state so you can tone it down a bit. Secondly, WvW isn’t modeled after real war it’s modeled to provide interesting decisions as often as possible.

If you know you’ll run into a lot of condi, spec for condi removal. It truly is that easy. Once it no longer works as well the meta will shift. Always understand that if you’re not adaptable then any sort of player versus player gameplay will be difficult and frustrating.

I still like to roam but that’s because I’ve accepted the chaos. There’s no such thing as balance, fairness or honor.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
It’s just not enough health. I don’t know why Anet is so worried about buffing life siphoning when other forms of damage have fluctuated so much. My best guess is that it would diminish the usefulness of shroud.
Has anyone done any testing with healing gear?

Pretty sure I’ll be running GS shouts/reaper in wvw. I don’t care if it’s optimal. It’s fun.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Cool but don’t expect fair fights.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
The short answer is because you have to take the risk of attacking otherwise it wouldn’t be an interesting interaction.
If you want to discuss a mechanic that’s fine but I humbly suggest not assuming you know so much about design that you can lecture professional designers about something. It’s poor form.

We’ve doubled in size pretty quickly so thank you to all our new members. I appreciate the patience it takes to stick with a small community and watch it grow. We’re still recruiting so feel free to find me in game or send me mail.

There’s really no reason to not let us turn off combat graphics if we choose. It increases pc performance and allows us to focus on what is going on much easier. I pointed this out three years ago in the beta so don’t get your hopes up though.

Contre [VS]
PvE focus, multi-server. Active PST 4:00pm – 12:00am
Contre [VS] is a haven for players who want to tackle the hardest content in the game without the pressure of playing specific classes/builds. We make it work and we win. We want to see it all and leave nothing behind.
In our home you’ll find players that want every achievement. You’ll find commanders that know dungeons, fractals and open world content. You’ll talk with players who can craft everything. You’ll meet adults who treasure their time in the game and the people they play with because they’re mature.
Our community will remain small and focused because we know that the larger the roster the more trivial each members contribution becomes. We want quality, not quantity. You will have a bigger impact on our development because of this. I’m a staunch believer that the people are the king and the leader their servant. What can I do for you today?

short answer: Anet won’t punish players for playing the way they want to play.
Also, Anet has been emphasizing the need for builds outside of the berserker mindset moving forward in Heart of Thorns.

I’m sure a lot of us have 80’s of every profession so why not just give the Revenant a focus? Like build it for a particular game type and then it can be your “main” for that game type.

Sounds fun. I can’t wait to try it out during the next beta weekend event although I don’t know how much longer I can request vacation with the explanation of “Tyria needs me.”

I agree with Mulzi. It’s going to take a while for players to shift their mindset. The Resistance boon is an added helping hand.

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect every weapon to match the performance of every other weapon in every game mode. The greatsword felt good to me in PvE and especially in WvW zerging. It has some tools to keep enemies in range. #1 third strike chills, #4 cripples and #5 pulls which of course you all know.
My only complaint is that the greatsword doesn’t generate much life force. I felt forced to use axe or staff to generate life force so that I could even use Reaper’s Shroud.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Anything with lots of cleave and lots of utility; However, I really suggest picking whatever you find the most fun to play. If you don’t enjoy what you’re playing then you won’t have a good experience regardless.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
For a little perspective, Fractals are meant to be very difficult content so encountering groups with these kinds of restrictions seems realistic. Maybe one thing we could all work on is being a little more understanding of players who aren’t extraordinary and then I think this “issue” would be less exaggerated.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I think for the same reason that some players don’t like being asked to play a specific class we shouldn’t berate others for asking for specific classes. Everyone plays differently. The only aspect I take issue with is the juvenile thrashing that happens sometimes when players don’t get what they’re looking for.
I’ll play any dungeon with any player on any class. /Friend me if you’re having problems finding people to run with.

Well, I’ve got to see how Reaper will change playing Necro in WvW but I still think Berserker with condi duration will be my setup. This will be my first beta so I’m eager to try the Revenant as well. Lastly, playing with the Tempest Elite Specialization is on my list.

We’re getting entirely new Borderlands maps and I think we should reserve some judgment until we get to play them don’t you?

I would really love an open world pvp server.

If the dps is what causes the healing then there’s no issue. You’re still doing dmg and still supporting.
But yeah, we need much more difficult content.

This is all just a PR mistake. If Anet would have said the expansion is $50 but if you don’t already own the base game they’ll give it to you for free then none of this would have ever happened.

I think the change is good. While Anet does try to maintain a horizontal progression they have to make each existing set better than the last to the extent that people actually want to accrue it. In my humble opinion, 5% wasn’t very tempting and I personally only made Ascended gear for the skins and achievements. 10% is better enough that more players will try for it I think.

We can’t categorically say whether or not “all” or “any” of the people are like that. The game community is a small section of humanity and like humanity it will have a lot of different people.
I can however say eff those mfers for being so rude and that if you want someone to hang with who isn’t a mfer then feel free to hit me up anytime.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I don’t think terrormancer and condimancer have to be the same thing but regardless, I’ve always been of the opinion that Necromancer is more suited for condition duration and not condition damage. I think our most powerful conditions are chill, blind, poison, fear and weakness. Because of that I prefer to run Berserker with a small focus on condition duration for weakening and cc’ing the enemy zerg.

I appreciate the feedback.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
@flow I’m not saying I can literally channel infinitely but it’s so close that arguing about it seems pretty unnecessary. I’ll also note that I’m smart enough to wear someone down with axe auto to apply vulnerability and get their dodges out of the way. Then hitting all three channels kills them. Also, I think channel abilities are better than untargeted because obviously untargeted attacks don’t have any certainty that they’ll hit whereas if a channel starts before stealth barring dodge it will hit. Since dodge negates both channeled and untargeted, channeled still has the advantage not to mention it hits multiple times.
@spoj I don’t understand when you say the game is about active defense. The example you give of a flat 10% reduction is passive. Block on channel would be active.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I’m not sure what the reaper will have in terms of channeled skills but as it stands I can constantly channel between the three skills I mentioned. I remember I originally made the build to counter stealth since I just need to start the channel each time before the opponent disappears and stay in range
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I recall one of the developers asking in a video if anyone even used “Dark Armor” and I figured I would speak up. The toughness on channeling is considerable for my roaming wvw build wherein I cycle between dagger 2, axe 2 and deathshroud 4. 400 toughness while doing these abilities is pretty great but I understand that this is by no means popular.
But for just three points in the Death Magic line I was getting 670 toughness if channeling and in deathshroud which was pretty great.

I can agree with that. I really do enjoy the conversation I just think it’s probably a little too far fetched to expect Anet to prioritize making every class “meta” worthy.

Wow, well done. I’ve got to challenge myself to try this now. I’m always looking to level up.

I appreciate how constructive this thread is but Anet is never going to balance for the min/max crowd. Necro is perfectly relevant for the majority of players and unfortunately the “meta” and min/max is a minority.

@IAMANDLOVE
Like any social venture, you’ve got to surround yourself with people doing the things you want to do. Sometimes that means finding a new guild. Other times it means going somewhere you want to progress and just start talking to people doing the content. The best way to overcome challenging content is with like-minded people.
