Ventari’s is good for some specific fights but it’s slow to utilize so you’ll need to plan ahead. Most notably the reflect and condi cleanse will be the reason to use it.
As I said during the beta, Anet should remove the tablet, call it “Ventari’s Will” and make the effects trigger from the player. It’s still interesting because it forces the Revenant to consider positioning without having to micromanage the tablet while using abilities. Which by the way, moving the tablet cannot be done while other abilities are being used as it will cancel them so it’s even more of a hinderance.

Contre [VS] will be hosting open raids on November 17th. If you’re a solo player or a small guild who can’t quite field the numbers feel free to join us and we’ll accommodate as many players as possible. Feel free to mail me in game for more details.

Reaper feels like a monster. I also like being able to max vuln and chill for instanced content as well as being able to destroy defiance.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I’ve never seen any other profession stack chill like we can so more often than not it’s me overwriting everyone else’s Chill. Also, I guess I’m confused on the stacking of intensity because when I cast staff 3 it’ll tick for 500 dmg first then every time I crit inside that field it’s increasing the chill damage up to having seen 1,011 today.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
It takes way more to keep bleeds going. All I do is throw down CPC, go into Reaper Shroud and hit 4. Then auto attacks cause the burn/might/vuln. Even in Hybrid gear (Valk armor w/ Sinister trinkets) poison is ticking 2.5k, burn is ticking 1.5k and chill is around 800 on top of dmg from the actual melee attacks.
In order for bleeds to be relevant you have to continuously attack with scepter aa. Otherwise, the minute you switch they diminish. That said it only works for me because i’m hybrid. If I was to go full condition then I would agree. My condi is burst, yours is sustained.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
When I read the forums of other professions they say the same thing about vuln and might. Someone has to actually apply the vuln and not rely on everyone else and I think we’re the best for it since it synergizes so well with chill.
Also, in terms of condition damage, I haven’t found any reason to use bleeds or scepter because as soon as I switch to RS the stacks fall off. So I’ve chosen to only use chill/poison/burn as my condi damage and run a hybrid build of valk gear w/ rune of elementalist and sinister trinkets. I feel it’s a perfect middle ground and that no matter the scenario I’ve still got answers.

I’m hoping someone can tell me why one toughness trinket is good and also why that messes with aggro?
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I think i’d consider axe/dagger or axe/warhorn before I go back to scepter at this point I just don’t want to be a full power reaper.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I use Valkyrie gear w rune of elementalist and sinister trinkets and it does good power and condi dmg. I just like that it’s flexible. I tried to use scepter/dagger but it’s so slow and staff is just too useful.

Yesterday we successfully claimed the Gilded Hollow as our guild hall. Thanks to everyone who participated. We’re also clearing all the PvE guild missions easily. Ventrilo is filling up with some great people and we’re finishing everyone’s ascended gear in preparation for raiding.
We are still recruiting players of all levels and experience so feel free to whisper me in game to learn more or to get an invite

The example you gave uses 100 different possible outcomes whereas our problem only has two. It’s not the same. Also, to reiterate, time span doesn’t matter if the chance to percentage is reapplied each action.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Each swing is a new chance to hit and there’s only two outcomes. The period of time makes no difference. I apologize if I’m missing something here but unless there’s a hidden modifier there would need to be more than two outcomes for anything over 51% to matter. That is of course not including 100% which is clearly the best

We’re all having a great time exploring Heart of Thorns together. Add one of our commanders/mentors as a friend and find us online to help with whatever you might need. We’re still recruiting all players so come join us as we prep for the release of raids.

The heals are just awkward in a pinch. Neither is a very good “oh kitten” button. Maybe once I get better with blocks that won’t be an issue. Running staff / hammer atm with Valkyrie armor and clerics trinkets. I’d rather use zealots and nomads but it’s costly and time consuming to invest in so early before I’m certain I’ll stick with the build
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Maybe I don’t know about some underlying modifier but mathematically speaking, 51% crit chance is just as good as 99%. When you swing a weapon it either is or isn’t a hit so anything above more than half percentage wise is actually the same chance to hit. A higher percentage would only matter if there were more than two outcomes.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Hmm not much condi listed so far. Surprising.
Valkyrie armor w/ runes of elementalist
Sinister trinkets
Berserker greatsword/ sinister scepter and dagger
Reaper / soul reaping / curses
I feel like I have an answer for everything with this build. My biggest worries are no swiftness and scepter is really slow. Neither weapon generates a lot of life force. At this point I’m considering swapping scepter/dagger for axe/x or staff but then I don’t think sinister would be necessary at all and I’d just be a power reaper

I don’t usually make characters rooted in the lore of the game but the Sylvari are just too cool. All my characters start with the letter “q” so yeah. Also, from a history perspective I thought Ventari would be an important legend to him as well as Glint.
Sylvari named “Questionable” with Glint and Ventari as legends

I have to say it’s a little silly for a self titled solo player to expect to have a guild hall. No one else finds that ridiculous?
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Norn is a good bet. Armor will look great and it makes sense given their culture in terms of invoking legends of the past.
I went Sylvari with Ventari and Glint and named him Questionable….

Thank you cerbeius. I thought I saw it called condi duration on a black diamond I picked up but maybe i’m mistaken

For those that did get it, did you have the option to pick the “trailblazer” stat combo? Did it have a modifier for “expertise”? WTF is expertise for masteries?

I don’t get the complaints either. In the console world this style of exploring areas to unlock new abilities to access new areas is called “metroidvania” and it’s beloved by all. But then again when it comes to video games every gamer under the sun thinks they’re a design major and that they know better.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
It’s not a grind if it’s things you would be doing anyways. Besides, many people usually praise this style of play, otherwise referred to as “metroidvania” in which exploring yields new abilities that open up previously unseen areas.

I spent nearly every bwe perfecting my Reaper build so now I’m left with little direction on Revenant. So I’m looking for some input on how viable the following setup is for PVE (dungeons, fractals, raids mostly): The goal is to deal good dmg with great utility/healing.
Valk gear w/ runes of exuberance, Magi’s jewelry
Valk Staff w/ ? sigils, Valk Hammer w/ ? sigils
Glint / Ventari Legends
Herald/Salvation/Invocation

shhhhkitten I only have 3 unspent points right now…. That’s what I get for rolling a brand new Necro and leveling with tomes. I wanna play in the Halloween stuff though…

I really want to use scepter/dagger as the offhand weapon set but Staff just looks so good. The only thing keeping me on scepter/dagger is that a few enemies in Maguuma were only susceptible to condi dmg and I prefer versatility over singular maximized focus.

Could you put a sigil of earth and a sigil of ice on a scepter and get the proc on both? Wouldn’t those both be affected by the trait in Curses that adds 50% duration to conditions from scepter?
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I put hydro and ice on the greatsword. The stack limit is small as Dhampyr points out but most of our chills only last 2.5 seconds so I think it’ll break even. Unless of course we have a group/raid full of necros but I don’t ever see that happening and I don’t think other professions can apply as much chill as we do.
Now if only I can decide on a secondary weapon. I have one of everything and seem to swap them out a lot.

Thank you to all our new members. Remember we have no rep policy. It’s my job to make a guild so great that you want to rep but if you choose not to that’s fine. We also have two new world commanders who you’ll see in the Silverwastes, Dry Top, World Bosses and very soon in the Maguuma Jungle.
We’ve pooled quite a bit of resources and obtained a complete set of Ascended Armor and Weapons for seven members this month. Two commander tags were also purchased for our new commanders.
We’re still accepting all players so feel free to mail me or whisper even if you just want more details. Until then, find one of our commanders out there in the wilderness and see us in action:

I like it. With an offhand dagger I use 1 and 2 for a ranged option until I can get back in the mix with Greatsword. When I am ready to charge back in I throw down 3 and 5, holding onto 4 in case I need to get rid of some conditions which is never really.

yeah but force is 8 G Would Frailty be an alright substitute considering decimate defenses and target the weak? Would a stamina sigil or ice sigil ever be more useful?

I think CPC will stay the same if not get better. Also, I always thought spectral wall should reflect. It just seems like an obvious function.

Valkyrie Armor with Scholar runes and Sinister jewelry nets me the stats I want. Using Sinister scepter/dagger and Berserker Greatsword:
22,500 health
2,000 armor
1,200 condition dmg
3,200 attack
33% crit chance
27% crit dmg

Do you think it would be sufficient to run mostly a power build with Valkyrie armor. Then just have a sinister scepter/dagger and a few traits for bleeds/burns?
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Fair point, I suspect I’ll go staff/hammer then but no idea on armor/weapon stats.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I just couldn’t find a build that felt efficient. Glint is so great that I didn’t see much reason to ever swap out of it. Staff and Hammer are pretty fun to use. Wanted to do Glint/Ventari and be an ideal tank.

I want to prep so badly but I just cannot make a decision on PvE build

Sure if everyone is optimal but 9/10 times we take a little longer to move as a zerg and then sit on the outer wall until we get relevant info. I’m just saying it’s a little too early to start freaking out about it.

I’m very interested in this thread as I plan to build Hybrid Reaper. During the betas though my biggest problem was that except for the blind and pull on Greatsword there was no reason for me to use it over RS unless of course I was somehow out of Life Force…

If anything, we should be rewarded for using conditions, not punished.

I got great use out of YSIM and YAAW while weilding a Greatsword. The Elite (suffer?) is good but I still find myself using Plague the most.

In terms of raids, I think the days of only power and only condi will be gone. If the beta raid is any indication of direction, we need hybrid builds that can fill a few roles so we don’t have to spend hours getting the right composition. That is a place I think Necro shines as it’s so easy to spec into curses for condi and just throw everything else into power. Also, the burst heal with ressing potential and no bleed out is pretty amazing.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
It’s not as long as you think, I promise. Also you’re assuming you’ve always had scouts following a zerg previously which is only true half the time, mostly at reset. All you see is two minutes of uncertainty and you’re freaking out. Besides, we still have answers to counteract it.1
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Two minutes isn’t enough time to do anything substantial.

I’m not sure why some think we have to do the same dps as any other profession. Will it stop you from playing Necro?
I’m sure some guilds will require specific classes/builds in raiding and hey, that’s how they like to play. But for me, I’ma play whatever I think is fun and I’ll do my best to be optimal without worrying too much about the whole min/max ideal.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
I think the simple answer is that it further encourages others to buy the expansion.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Yeah as in there’s no risk and it makes ranged combat preferential. If you were the source of the abilities then you’d have to be able to move to targets whom are sometimes in very dangerous places which means you’ll need to have a strong build with adaptable play.
