Gandara just got past the last laser event with 40 seconds to spare. Wasn’t enough to burn tequilla down though.
Awesome! You’ll get him soon!
Sea of Sorrows
Desolation’s first win video sums it all up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzCNYbfHoRU
Seriously. I have yet to beat him myself (Am on Ehmry Bay, and we’re getting closer each day) but just watching that video makes me cry with delight it’s so awesome! It’s the teamwork. It’s the determination. It’s the fact that it’s a major accomplishment. It’s HOW MUCH so many people including myself truly care that makes it absolutely epic!!
And that is why I hope he’s never nerfed, because even if he were to go to almost never being beaten, that awesomeness would remain — so legendary that I will always desire that experience. And nerfing him would take the possibility of that experience away.
Sea of Sorrows
You can see someone link one in map chat in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzCNYbfHoRU
Also — that’s seriously the best win video ever. Can’t wait to experience that in my server!
Sea of Sorrows
We got him down to around 30% on Ehmry Bay last night. Gonna get him tonight for sure!
Sea of Sorrows
Go Ehmry Bay! We’re gonna get this!

Ehmry Bay is full atm, but you can still get in if you join my party. My in game name is Elvendir. Should be spawning in next 20 mins.
Sea of Sorrows
We’ll be trying again as soon as he spawns. Feel free to join!

Didn’t make it this time, but I want to say to the ANET dev who joined — Thank you so so much! You totally made my day!
Sea of Sorrows
We’ve got him down to 50% past couple times and are improving each time. Join my party if you need help getting in from overflow.
Sea of Sorrows
(edited by RLHawk.3290)
The problem is that what would happen is you’d have, say 59 players, and then say 5 more people join. If you don’t scale the time when more people come in then people would just leave until the event started, then flood in and easily beat it. If you did scale it immediately though, you’d have people getting mad at people for joining the fight, and that’s not fun for anybody.
Your suggestion might kinda work for scaling instanced content, but if it was instanced then your suggestion wouldn’t really be needed.
Cool to share your ideas though! Thanks!
Sea of Sorrows
I believe that travel is supposed to always take you to the original destination (i.e. your homeworld). But I’ve heard others saying they click travel and get back into an overflow, which makes me wonder if maybe you get the message and it fills up again too quickly so it spits you back out to an overflow or something. I’m not really sure though.
Sea of Sorrows
For now, I’d suggest just continuing to level up normally. A lot of the Living Story stuff (including the current piece) is level 80 stuff.
If you’d like to catch up on the story though, here are a couple great video recapping what’s happened:

I think the attitude of “this is a good challenge and we’re slowly improving even though we lost again. We’ll get it soon!” is something more people need rediscover.
Map chat on our server after the fails was mostly positive and talking about what went wrong, making light of the fail and only few complaints. It was a good atmosphere and I’m looking forward to more attempts tomorrow.
Great point! So far I haven’t seen my own world’s chat (been in overflows) but I hope it is similar to yours! That’s awesome!
Sea of Sorrows
It’s seems a little bit mean to ask people to post things that people have said just to laugh at them.
This is true, and I very much regret that part of the post. It was written while I was feeling very much like, “Seriously, guys?!! o.O”, and I should not have written it while feeling like that.
Sea of Sorrows
This was the first time I did a “rage quit” in a “multiplayer” game. I’m not even going to touch Tequatl again. I don’t even want to hear about him. I came here only to show them how bad this system is AND how bad Tequatl is in his current state.
That is a shame, as we need more people who’ve done a successful run and know the fight well. Other than that though, your post actually doesn’t really have anything to do with Tequatl. You DCd at a really bad time. That’s not Tequatl’s fault or this update’s fault. I suppose it is the system’s fault if your full connection was good the whole time, but based on how little the average person DCs, their system is pretty incredible compared to many other games.
I feel bad for you though. Most people who beat him feel amazing, in spite of non-exceptional rewards. I hate that you missed out on that feeling, and hope that you’re able to get it back sometime in the future.
Good news is — you guys did it once, which means you can do it again! Hopefully without the bad luck this time.
Sea of Sorrows
I was on Vabbi (EU) server and DCd about 30 secs before your new and “flawless” Tequatl died. I was an active player during every phase of the event so my question is – when will you send me my chest reward and fill up my achivements?
I’m so sorry this happened to you! I remember the first time we successfully beat Scarlet (I know, not such a big deal) my game crashed right as she died. It happened again on the Shatterer the other night. It really sucks, and I know they’re working hard to improve the stability of everything!
As far as still getting a reward though, I don’t see how that would really be possible for them to do. Right now it’s plain and simple — contribute and be logged in when it completes, and you get a reward. But anything that I can imagine them changing that to would lead to an enormous amount of controversy and be impossible to accurately keep track of.
Sea of Sorrows
I apologize sincerely.
Somehow I don’t believe that, your entire OP reeks of condescension and borders on being a troll post.
Maybe it is you who is trolling. I read the OP post and no where does he talk DOWN to anyone.
It’s blatantly trivializing any complaint about the event.
Which is completely ball and chained to whether or not afkers, griefers, or “I play how I wants” end up on the turrets.
Yes, we know that right after something on any game in the history of gaming is implemented idiots will knee jerk react. Now look at what people are complaining about after those people got their rage off or stopped trolling.
Guesting, afkers, and mindless zergers take the event largely out of peoples hands and yet we still have people going “HURRRR U NO LIEK CHALLENG!!!”. No, we like the challenge not being “did I or did I not end up surrounded by morons in this overflow”.
Again — not my intent and I believe if you read it you’ll see it’s not what I said. As far as I know I have not trivialized or made fun of anyone presenting valid complaints. I was merely expressing my own delight at the content (I’ve been monitoring forums from work all day excited to see who else brings him down and see how they did it), and then in the same post sharing my amusement at the knee jerk reactions.
At this point, I personally feel like the “It’s impossible!”, “Loot is terribly less than reward!”, “He has to be nerfed!”, etc. posts are still knee jerk reactions. Because even though the event has happened several times now, most of the people you’re playing with at any given run are still very much learning. If there wasn’t a ton of stuff that could have been done even better (they did awesome, btw!) in the videos of Tequatl completions and they were still failing, I might feel different, but for now I think that the population is still very much learning how to do the event, and I believe it will be like Arah p4 and other difficult content where as the majority of the people doing the content get better they’ll be able to carry those who are newer and still complete the event.
To me, it is things like assuming that everyone not doing a perfect job is a “mindless zerger” that is condescending, as I see those as people who are very much still learning the event. If you’ve learned more than them, then you have an opportunity to build community by inviting some to a party and coordinating at least your party on what you know is most important.
Sea of Sorrows
It’s about your entire server. It’s about building up the community by teaching each other and planning out a strategy.
Is that how it works when people from TC and BG can’t actually get in because of guests?
Because that’s the situation now.Yeah, I get the feeling that the people who are praising this are clueless in regards to the technical issues it brings. Sure, it would be cool in an ideal world but this isn’t an ideal world. When designing content you have to design it around the limitations of the game.
I don’t think they’re clueless. I imagine most if not all would fully acknowledge the issues and probably struggled a lot to be able to play with whoever they played with. Limitations and issues shouldn’t be a reason to ignore the awesomeness they’ve experienced in spite of said limitations though.
Sea of Sorrows
Am i the only person wondering why the mods/developers only react the posts like ‘how is tequatl announced’? While there are now like 10000 posts about the difficulty with no decent answer …
They’re giving it some time and watching, as they should. Doing anything this soon would be a mistake, IMHO.
Sea of Sorrows
Great post, OP!
That’s definitely the feeling I got just watching the videos! So awesome! I can’t wait to be a part of a success one day! In the meantime, my skills will only continue to increase.
Sea of Sorrows
Not sure if this affects how you feel about it or not, but the Tequatl The Sunless group of achievements is there to stay — so you have the foreseeable future to get this achievement.
Sea of Sorrows
I misread your post and said it was my mistake. Be a good sport and leave it alone. No one likes a bully.
I misread it the same as you. Assumed “killable with 3:30 seconds available on the timer” meant able to be killed with just 3.5 minutes available to kill him. instead of 3.5 minutes remaining on 15 minutes.
Sea of Sorrows
Awesome!!! Congrats!!
Sea of Sorrows
Thank you, NoxInfernus.2361! I’m glad that I came across as intended to at least one person!
Sea of Sorrows
I apologize sincerely.
Somehow I don’t believe that, your entire OP reeks of condescension and borders on being a troll post.
I’m very sorry to hear that, and I feel bad that that’s how I’ve come across. After seeing your comments, I wish I had only posed about what I liked and my dream about it.
I tend to see complaints like the ones I shared as the trolls. What I’ve taken from this is that I need to take a step back and listen to them more and make sure I don’t just discard their complaints. I still disagree with them though.
Sea of Sorrows
So let me get this straight, you think you are better than people who are frustrated with the mechanics of the fight because it is cool to fail at 80% the one time you have done it. Let me share something with you, it is not fun to fail repeatedly, all while making zero progress towards the next phase. You are not better than anyone else and starting a thread like this to specifically bash people who could have valid concerns about the fight is not only childish, but incredibly ignorant to the views of the opposing side.
Have some respect and some tact.
That was not my intent, though you do point out some serious issues with my post. I apologize for coming across as thinking I’m better or more important than anyone. That is not how I feel or think, so the fact that I have come across that way clearly means that I do need to gain some tact and show more respect in how I post. I apologize sincerely.
My intention was to say that I absolutely love it so far (and I’ve tried thrice, not once), and then to point out some of the irony in some, not all, but some of the negative criticisms of the event. I tried to clarify what I thought was unreasonable about each one in my parentheses. Like saying he’s impossible when he’s only been fought by the people fighting a few times. Or that he’ll never be defeated in low population servers while those low population servers are overflowing.
Your complaint seems to be more that you’ve done it lots and not seen any progress each time. And that’s valid. Surely you gotta admit that some of the complaints are humorously illogical though, right? Or maybe it is just me and I should keep that to myself.
Sea of Sorrows
I’m on Ehmry Bay, and I absolutely love the new Tequatl fight! Me and some friends tried (and failed, of course) to kill him a few times last night and didn’t even get him down to 80%, but we did a tiny tiny bit better each time. And that’s super exciting! The fact that it’s a huge deal for Blackgate to have gotten it is so awesome, and makes me so excited about it! Last night I dreamed that Ehmry Bay was the 3rd world to bring him down. You know something’s cool when you dream about it and can’t stop thinking about it at work the next day!
One thing I will say though is that the vocal negative side of the community makes me laugh at shake my head at the same time. Here’s some examples.
“RIP, low pop servers.” (said while in an overflow)
“This is impossible.” (Said on the 3rd time he’s ever been fought.)
“He has too large of a health pool, and still requires no actual skill. Look at Blackgate, they killed him with pure DPS without even dodging waves. Nerf his health and increase the time limit and make skill actually important!” (This one just makes me shake my head and want to bang it on my desk. News flash — by using even more skill than BG did their first success they/we can get his health pool down even faster by not wasting time and buffs rezzing, etc. The statement makes the assumption that we’ve already mastered the skills and that BG’s success was the only way, neither of which are true.)
So, anyone else wanna share anything that people have said negatively about the new Tequatl that made them facepalm?
EDIT: tl;dr: I love it and dreamed about it. Some of the negative comments about the new fight make me facepalm.

I’d just like to point out that they just released Ascended weapons, which gives something that’s no only better (i.e. not just a skin) but also has a new, unique skin. And there’s multiple skins for each item type, and you get them by doing a ton of varying content. …that makes it seem to me like it’s not that you think the balance of play-to-get vs pay-to-get is off, but rather that you want something that’s pay-to-get but don’t want to pay for it. (please forgive me if I’m wrong.) But if that’s the case, I’d simply like to comment that the only way they make money is if they put stuff in the cash shop that people actually want.
Sea of Sorrows
Ionno mang, I ain’t creative and I was talkin bout the gem store. It’d be pretty chill if they sold stuff like more armor skins that were seasonal instead of just town clothes, also swimwear when your character goes in the water would be pretty chill.
Says he’s not creative

Offers 2 of the best ideas ever.
Sea of Sorrows
I actually REALLY appreciate the price of these! Lots of free-to-play games do stuff where you basically rent extra bag and bank space. The fact that GW2 has a relatively cheap 1 time purchase per character for them is really nice.
I mean, I understand that $5 might not be cheap, but it’s something that lasts forever and improves QOL for that character forever.
Sea of Sorrows
I had a Royal Pass bought from the Black Lion Trading Company, and really enjoyed the service. It expired today though, and I can’t find it anywhere in the store anymore. I thought it might be because mine still existed in my inventory, so I destroyed it, but still nothing in the trading company.
Can anyone else confirm if these have indeed been removed from the store?
Thanks.
Sea of Sorrows
I expect NO more responces from Anet regarding this issue and this topic just vanishes slowly then, quite sure that is what Anet is trying now…-.-’’
Yeah – I suspect you’re right – it’s not like we’re paying monthly to play so they don’t have to worry about players cancelling. The most they’ll see is probably a dip in Gems sales as some folk decide not to bother any more. They’ve had our money so they don’t need to worry about us – it’s all about the new customers they can get between now and the New Year. Hopefully some of those prospects Google and wonder “Hmm – that doesn’t sound good….”
I truthfully cannot comprehend how you can radiate such hate for such an amazing team and amazing game. Nor how issues like this can possibly take away all the positives they have done and continue to do. I pity you all.
Sea of Sorrows
aww man
This is an actually appropriate response, IMHO.
Sea of Sorrows
This is absolutely not true, difens.1326. As a professional programmer myself (non gaming related) who rolls out updates to several clients semi-frequently, it is pretty much impossible to test EVERYTHING thoroughly enough to not have ANY bugs. If you want to make perfect software, you’ll never release anything EVER. Because it can ALWAYS be better. And yes — I’ve messed up some things that have been irreversible, like this. It’s part of the job. So you can bash on ANet or bash on me all you want, but every piece of software you use will have issues from time to time, rather you run into them or not.
And for everyone complaining about 10 or 20 laurels — what in the world is wrong with you?! You’ll get your 10 just like every other time! And if someone gets 20 (which is just speculation atm anyway afaik), why is that a problem? Isn’t our “in this together” attitude something we pride ourselves on as a GW2 community? We revive our fallen, help out strangers with tough battles, and don’t/can’t steal kills/loot/harvesting nodes. It’s certainly something I pride us on as a community and brag about to outsiders who’ve had bad experiences with MMOs. So if my fellow hero played a ridiculous amount and got his monthlies in the first 2 days of the month and gets rewarded extra, then to him I say congratulations! What is there to be envious of? They’re not taking anything from me, and I’m given everything I deserve.
If you were close to getting monthlies and had them reset, I can understand being disappointed. But if you got them that fast, you’ll have no trouble getting them in the next 27 days, and it seems like a small price to pay for all the incredible content ANet delivers constantly.
I have over 10 years of experience in medical software development and support. Of course bugs happen. Of course things go wrong. I messed up my code several times. But never in my entire career, I made my customer pay for my mistakes. If I screw something up, it is I, who pay the bill.
Wait… so no bugs ever made any clients loose any time whatsoever? That’s the ONLY thing any players are loosing from this — a bit of time that they spent getting the achievements before the patch.
Sea of Sorrows
They can at least do something! Like, I don’t know, add some easier monthly options or something? Just something! anything!
Not promise a fix and then suddenly say “Sorry too risky guys, later”.
And maybe they will. Time will tell. But everyone insulting them and talking about how horrible they are and making it into a huge deal is plain ridiculous IMHO. The very best of the best make mistakes, and I really don’t think this is as big of a mistake as some people are acting like.
Sea of Sorrows
/snip10
The problem is that a lot of people already completed it and got their 10… and now it was reset and can do it again I believe. So they get 20 this month.
Not to mention we were promised that it would be fixed, only to get slabbed in the face.
Because of a mistake they made, many people got screwed over while other people get double rewards this month. And they won’t do anything to remedy this bad situation, this is completely unacceptable and yet we can do nothing but accept it because they are the devs.
You weren’t promised anything. You were told that they were working on getting it fixed, then found that it couldn’t really be fixed. That’s just part of software development sometimes.
Sea of Sorrows
After investigation by our programmers, they have determined that the fix to this issue would be too risky and could end up making the situation worse than it is. Unfortunately, this means that we’re not able to make changes to correct the issue. We’re sorry about this and we will be implementing ways to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.
Lazy and unprofessional excuse. Like I said in the other thread, you, as a company, do not respect us as your customers, nor you value our precious time. Lack of proper testing, lack of proper planning and stupid ambition to release new content every two weeks caused this. Fine. No more excuses, no more failures like this. You won’t see any more money from me. I don’t care for laurels or achievement points, but I do care for my time. Obviously you don’t. End of story.
This is absolutely not true, difens.1326. Sea of Sorrows
I still dont understand why you can charge only one per day. I mean… it’s already limited due to the fact that theres only the nodes in home instances left, so why couldnt they just remove that additional limitation? You have to admit, it’s really kind of silly.
Because they wanted it to be time constrained more than money constrained. Even though you can only mine them once per day, you can buy as many as you want. By doing it this way, it’s time constrained, and will be money constrained also if/when they release something people really want that uses them. (Like precursors.)
Sea of Sorrows
Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Perhaps it’s something people will have to figure out, like the legendaries.
Sea of Sorrows
They have been working hard lately to make things more and more accessible to WvW players, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if they make some way for you. Perhaps not initially though? IDK.
Sea of Sorrows
Did you double check all our bags? It should be guaranteed.
Sea of Sorrows
Every single update to GW2 has been incredible! I really like this new one, and I very much enjoy seeing worlds come together in maps for large scale battles in the open world. Thank you!
Sea of Sorrows
I was just curious if they’ve said how they’re doing the China release, rather it will share the economy of the rest of the world or if it’s separate.
Sea of Sorrows
Would really like this.

What Healix said.
Sea of Sorrows
I stick with my advice to get an SSD actually. I’ve got a GTX 560ti, and my wife has a GTX 460, and we both get completely smooth FPS in maxed out settings 1080p even in the craziest huge boss or WvW fights. Upgrading our GPUs would give us absolutely nothing as far as playing GW2. Upgrading our SSDs, however, made a massive difference. No — you don’t get any FPS boost or any better in-game performance. But loading times is actually a pretty big deal.
Sea of Sorrows
If you don’t have friends to do it with, you can also often call out in map chat to see if anyone wants to go along with you.
I personally found the whole map very fun. But I enjoy exploring. One thing I will say though — it’s more fun when you’re doing it because you want to do it than when you’re just trying to rush through it.
