I could understand if the filter filtered out messages within say 5 or even 10 minutes of each other. All you’d need to do is change up what you said. But in WvW at least banging out a quick “thanks” lets me move quickly and not get smashed again.
I got spam filtered for linking a way point too many times. I have no idea how long needs to pass before the third message is appropriate. I do not think the filter needs to be that extreme, especially since gold spammers don’t seem to worry about it.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
I just got spam filtered in WvW because I said “thank you” too many times in says chat. In between map chat, team chat, and other says like “Res please if possible” “thanks”. The spam filter is just too radical, it is seriously hindering communications because of extreme memory. If you said something like “thank you” too many times in the last hour that isn’t spamming, that is acknowledging people that help you.
Relax the filter a little, please, so communication in PvP areas of the game are not disrupted, event communications are not disrupted. Please.

What is find most annoying is quaggans able to destroy siege weapons across half the map.
The orb in Garrison kept falling onto the floor because quaggans were nuking the altar. That was worse than the siege equipment breaking.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
Not sure if it is annoying but hitting things through solid objects bothers me a lot in WvW. As an engineer I stood safely out of AoE reach while blasting everyone attacking the door with a flame thrower. I laughed admittedly, but I was like, “This shouldn’t be happening.” Just sort of a pet peeve.
The rendering issue takes the cake. Oh? Whats that little injured asura? You’re all alone and lost in this big ole world? Oh, oh god, whats this? You were hiding an army of a hundred?! kitten you asura, currrrses!

Coordinating it on at least Stormbluff has been a challenge. People who understand what is asked of them but don’t want to do it are a problem. Also, it is difficult because there is also a large Korean population. I don’t expect every Korean to speak English or even understand what is being asked of them just like I don’t think they expect me to understand what they’re saying.
Whether willful ignorance or an honest language barrier in my experience it has been a challenge. This is just my experience though, I don’t know if it is the rule of thumb on SBI or if I am just exceptionally unlucky.

I agree entirely with Jayderyu. I know Mesmers are a utility class. That A-net is apparently working on a fix for it suggests that portal was not working as intended (a source cite would be great).
However, like I said, I’d still want them to be able to infiltrate but with much smaller numbers. I think it is universally understood that they’re nothing like thieves or warriors. I’ve finally thought about it enough to be comfortable with the idea of them being allowed to port small groups of individuals and agree that it is something that I like in a way.
As for the tug of war, that is exactly what I think should happen. Squads of thieves or stealth classes could capitalize on their mechanics while not outright preventing a cap with only one individual. I think it’d balance out if more people in the cap zone quickened the pace while the presence of enemy soldiers lessened or even reversed it with sufficent numbers. Good post.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
I know, that mesmer portal thing is kitten annoying and it is almost impossible to break without using siege weapons, I know that the response of using siege weapon is valid but there should be more punishment for so many people stacking up into 1 exact spot.
I say mesmer portals being only able to teleport 5 people, the user and 4 others.
Really is just my opinion but I agree as I mentioned in above posts, I think well put together infiltration teams would be a fun addition. Entire roving warbands maybe not so much.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
I don’t have much of a problem with the mesmer’s portal itself. I simply wish that every class had some kind of skill that had as much utility in WvW as the portal. For example, as an Engineer, I’d like to have either our mortar have actually useful mortar range or for our wrench skill to repair siege. I’m sure equally useful skills can be thought of for other classes as well.
I brought my engineer into WvW and decided after a few hours that it wasn’t worth it. Ended up rolling an Elementalist and having more fun. Kudos on playing an Engineer in WvW, I hope you guys eventually get some love and I agree every class should have a great WvW utility skill.

Why are you blaming Thieves for Mesmer portals? Clear the keeps of Mesmers.
Read the post again. No one is blaming thieves for mesmer portals.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
Why should you get that supply camp if you had 50 people who were being stupid?
THE ONLY way a thief can stay cloaked is via CnD. Group up, AOE ground – thief appears in 4sec… or gets gibbed by the AOE. Now keep whining and get my backstab nerfed so I can adapt to the changes and continue to roll people who don’t understand game mechanics.
You either willingly chose not to read any of the responses I posted or just sort of felt the need to be overly hostile. I already said multiple times that the problem with that mechanic is not the thief but the people he is fighting. Thank you for reading before you post next time.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
I did this to some SoR zerg last night. They eventually all stacked up and I made a mistake and I was dead. I don’t see what the big deal is, I wasted ~5mintues of a zerg’s time and they were still able to cap it.
So one single person, holding a point for 5 minutes, isn’t OP for you?
I wish I could hold a point for 1 minutes vs a Zerg with my Necro or my Engineer
That’s how long it took them to stack and aoe :/
That was something I did mention. The thief can do it as long as the people are idiots and the more players the more chances of there being idiots therefor personal experience says thieves can perma-stealth and prevent caps as long as they want. Stupid isn’t exactly in short supply.

Invader : knock knock
Defender : Who’s there?
Invader : All of us
Defender : All of us who?
Invader : All of us but our Mesmer who is about to port 30 of us to your Lord right now
That was hilarious by the way.
No, I don’t think I am going to learn to speak Korean just for the sole purpose of asking someone to stack on the group. Who know why they don’t do it. I am not calling anyone out on it, I’m just assuming it is either a language barrier or they have one of those Cartman “I do wuh I want” attitudes. Who knows.
I suppose grudgingly I’ll accept the Mesmer mechanics, I don’t really like what it brings to the table and it is exceedingly difficult to lose a keep within seconds. How a mesmer could hide effectively in a small keep is beyond me.
The thief issue -IS- a problem, and was the first thing I mentioned in the first post. We’re not just whining on the forums (really don’t see the point of calling anything you disagree with whining). For instance, SBI had capped one of the supply camps north of Dreadfall, can’t remember the name. Arah’s I think. We sat there a good long while the majority of the party stacked but a few were off swinging wildly while a thief was around. They didn’t just “waste 5 minutes of the zerg’s time”. They held off for quite a long while and successfully and amusingly so killed a few different people. They held off long enough for a large party of Blackgate to come wipe us.
Thieves are fine. TDA on Blackgate uses this tactic a lot. The problem is as I mentioned above:
1. People don’t stack and put a quick end to the thief. This cannot be controlled by anyone and the blame goes on the players being stupid.
2. A mechanic that allows for a single character’s presence to over ride the presence of superior numbers. I don’t think this is a good mechanic, I would like to see numbers matter. But then you have issues with large roving gangs and low populated servers vs decent population servers. Just wouldn’t work.
Going back to the Mesmers, I don’t really accept the portal thing. I mean I get that the person was already in there to begin with so they did do work at one point or another. I understand and accept that. However, if there -are- ways to infiltrate a keep as a mesmer that are not legit then I’d really like to see that get fixed ASAP. People in above posts mentioned invisible stairs and other ways to get into a keep in ways not intended. While I wouldn’t want to see anyone do that I especially wouldn’t want the gate keeper of pain running amok in my keep.
I won’t speak for anyone else but myself, some people might want to smash Mesmers and Thieves into the dirt. As I plan on playing all the classes and have chars of all classes already created I don’t really feel like calling out the nerf mobile. Just fix broken stuff or what most players perceive as broken (if it makes sense to fix it, sometimes people just don’t like how stuff works regardless whether it is broken or not).
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
Yeah, letting an entire army bypass all defense just seems a little outlandish. I am all for infiltration parties, they’re fun. Used to play as a Warg in Lord of the Rings Online and rogue in World of Warcraft and countless other stealthers in a bunch of mmos. Infiltration could be cool. Being overrun because the game allows fifty people all at once leap through a portal into the keep isn’t cool. To me anyways.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
Typically that is because people refuse to stack up. They wander around aimlessly. I don’t like the mechanic aspect but I find that the offense isn’t so much with the thieves as much as an unwillingness and with the Koreans on SBI a language barrier preventing people from knowing to or doing the stacking up. Not really sure what the solution for that would be though.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
I absolutely don’t think thieves should be able to prevent a cap and remain perma-invis. I recongize this to be the fault of the people unwilling to stack and AoE so the thief can’t hit. I don’t think that adds dimension at all.
As for the dimension brought by mesmer infiltrators, how do they do it? There isn’t a mechanic that allows for them to be permanently hidden right? Keeps like SH and Dreadfall I could understand and maybe appreciate the threat of mesmers. Small keeps like Jerrifers I can’t imagine offer too many hiding spots within the confines of the keep. Especially ones that negate tab targeting.
The frustration is born from all the effort dumped into something only to have it instantaneously undone. Completely bypassing an entire part of WvW seems crazy. I’d settle for infiltration groups, allowing the mesmer to port in people who’re in their group, allowing for tactical infiltration but even then just everyone would group around the mesmer so seems almost hopeless.
Early this morning we simply didn’t have the numbers to take keeps. TDA prevented us from capping camps, apparently Mesmer ninjas gobbled up our keeps, and no resistance could really be formed because of these tactics.
I mean I’m sure it is fun to pour into an keep with no resistance but I really don’t want this to turn into Warhammer Online where it becomes more profitable to not fight and just dump mesmers everywhere while single thieves lock down supply camps.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
It had been a while since we had taken the keep. A good 20 minutes? I don’t know, I mostly spent that time dying trying to get to the keep in the first place. Just seems implausible that they would be hidden for that long with so many people inside the keep. They eventually left of course and the moment they did the keep just got completely zerged.
I hate that it works like that even if a mesmer is in there. I have a hard time really accepting that a single class could completely bypass the defense of a keep taking an entire zerg along with it. Sort of ruins the element of back and forth struggling for a keep.
Especially with our commanders being so thorough about hidden mesmers just seems implausible but then it happened so somewhere along the way something went wrong.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
So, the whole thieves being able to single handedly prevent capping irked me. Honestly, I thought that as annoying as it was that it was equally annoying that everyone refused to stack on and not run off to permit the thief to perma-invis while slaughtering them.
But this portaling into a keep thing? I don’t even want to play anymore. I loved WvWvW. I just got killed in Jerrifer’s keep or whatever it is called. While the door was 100%. Because they managed to (and I hesitate to say the word) exploitingly teleport into the keep. We lost Jerrifers in seconds with the sheer amount of people that teleported in. There could be no defense, no communicating their threat because of how instantaneously they arrive.
I don’t know whether it was just shoddy game design or design oversight that allowed this or just outrageous player cleverness but it is utterly destroying my desire to play WvWvW. I mean we took Jerrifers the normal way and it took time and patience only to lose it nearly immediately? That can’t possibly be how it was intended.
It just ruins it for me.

1. I would understand if they did not just go and repeatedly create events for holidays. That is a lot of time and effort.
2. I think it’d be awesome if they did, but at the same time I would miss some of the events.
You guys touched upon a great point. Direction. I’d really ask for more direction, some sort of tip. Especially when you enter say Queensdale and the doors are missing. It’d be cool if you got mail explaining what you had to do for them to reopen so chat isn’t flooded.
And yes you could do the scavenger hunt at low levels but it’d be just so difficult I wouldn’t try. I made 5 attempts to get through a zone with mobs ten levels above mine and just got swarmed each time. Maybe have 3 scavenger hunts, one for low levels, mid levels, high levels. So the rewards aren’t OP crazy at low levels.
The chest is fine in Mad King Realm, but I agree that he should always end the fight there. It is just irksome to have to constantly waypoint back.
As far as scaling issues I do acknowledge the traits and stuff. I was level 1 when I began to do Lab runs. I’m now level 27 and each level things got more and more noticeably easier. Just is rough for low-lower middle levels to really do anything. Also on the topic of knockbacks I was a little annoyed at how easily juggled my guardian was. 3 of those large candy guys could keep you in the air for 1/2 your HP if you get caught in their knock back. Which you could dodge out of, I know, but if it happens you pay.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
True! I forgot, I was going to do the hunt on my engineer but quickly learned I couldn’t. I enjoyed it on my guardian. The rewards were pretty nice so I could see why a limit existed in the first place. (No actual limit but no low level will live in the Fen).

So some of the times (okay, well at least twice per run) I kill the scarecrow with my rifle and watch as it fears my teammates off the cliff. Then I laugh while they curse at the mad king. Not many people realize that it’s the killing of the scarecrow. Anyone else do this? What’s your record, at one time I had 3 teammates all fall off, it was kittening hilarious!
Had three users run off the edge as well.
I kill scarecrows but don’t break fears, I stay out of the red zone on my engineer and my guardian I leap in and kill it in like two hits.

So, today is Halloween, at least it is right now on the East Coast. From start to finish this event, I personally found, impressive. However, there were a few things that I feel could have been done a tad bit better or kinks worked out. I decided to make this thread about next Halloween.
What do you want to see improve? What would you like added or changed about this event for next year’s? I think if we all act constructively our feedback would be a great boon for Arena Net. There are tons of appreciation threads so we know people enjoyed it.
Bugs: The Events bug seems to be ironed out. I think it is universally understood that less bugs involving entry into the Mad King’s Realm would be good thing. I hope that next year goes smoother so everyone at any time could accomplish the meta events and get in.
Clock Tower: I found a few clipping issues with some of the stones and gears, I was getting caught on invisible snags. I think the clock tower is awesome but I’d like to see it just get a little fine tuning. On top of that, camera angles really need work. I think we’ve all had one or two times where the camera just went kooky and off you go into deathland. The Charr/Norn thing I don’t think can be helped so won’t really call that out. I sort of liked it not being a personalized instance.
The Labyrinth: If possible, damage scaling improved. I found as a lower level I struggled to do anything solo, I just didn’t have the damage to take monsters down fast enough, really paid the price for it. The zerg pain-train was awesome, but sometimes you need to get to someplace alone and during those times it hurts.
Mad King Instance: Just fine tune where the Mad King goes when fighting him. He said “Screw gravity” and hovered in the middle of the crack in the ground. (He fell into it but didn’t go all the way down but as melee you’d be at risk for falling). He also entered the rocks a few times.
Other than that, I’m really happy with that. I don’t really have ideas for fresh new events or anything for next year.
(Off topic but important!) Please have some sort of Reaper Brawl PvP game for off season time! It was soooo fun.

Other people better explained it, but what else can you do? You make these preperations, you could only do so much. Other areas people probably got preparations done early, so not really anything else ya can do. Non-US players were missing out on a cutscene.
US players are going to be losing houses, having people in their family die, and their cities wrecked. Estimated 100 billion in damage from some people they were speculating on the news tonight.
There is a difference between a hurricane destroying your homeland versus having an off-houred event that could be watched on youtube. Seriously.
I think you completed missed my entire point. I was comparing the reaction of Americans to other people missing out on an event, to the reaction of themselves when they are the ones missing out on an event.
I in no way said anything about the hurricane or loss of property/life. I was simply saying it was amusing that when the americans are the ones missing out they want Anet to extend the event, but when other nations are missing out, its ‘oh well to bad’
I understood what you’re saying but what is being reacted to is different and so is what is being missed but that has already been hashed over. I worked a lot of jobs where I worked nights and slept during the day so even as an American I’d end up missing events but I understood that it’d just be how it is. I would think that the time of events would be decided where the majority of people would have access. Unfortunate for people in Asia or whatever time zone that is least catered to. Anyone saying that it is “too bad” for you is a jerk and being a jerk is one sure thing that every country on the planet has in common. Theres jerks everywhere.
What others missed was a cutscene and I do feel bad that anyone missed anything because of where they lived. What people are missing out on are days of a limited time event. I do think that carries a little more weight, a little more loss. In the end though, this game touches so many communities all around the world. Earthquakes and other terrible natural disasters are bound to occur. I’m not sure Arena Net should extend events.
Not to sound heartless though, I do feel for people left out. I think that the best thing for Arena Net is to be neutral as a company lest they succumb to accusations of bias.
Again, I never intended hostile or mockery tones, I was just a little surprised at the comparison.

I hated it. I got really frustrated with it. Then my guild was running a group for it and I joined and I stopped taking it so seriously. I spent hours in there trying to achieve the end. When I did I was really excited, it rocked, and I found myself staying.
A day later I spent even longer in there trying to help my guildie though. I did it this time as a char which pissed some people off, but all in all that puzzle was good. As someone in TS3 said, Nintendo hard. Just the right difficulty.
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
It was a cutscene. I was not there for it. I was pointing out the difference. If you can’t see that then I don’t know what to say to you. I don’t see how that is mocking anyone. What people affected by the hurricane would miss is actual content. More than a cutscene, I mean. If you missed the cutscene you could see it via Youtube, but it is like a deleted scene your DVD didn’t come with. You got to see the movie but missed that one scene.
I did not post about people missing out on it because I don’t come to the forums often, I just came to see what was up with the bugged events. So you’re just doing as I said and sticking a bunch of American players in a blanket statement that is neither appropriate nor accurate. I would not want anyone to miss anything, personally, but I know and understand that there are 24 different time zones and no one time or date would be more acceptable than another.
So, please, quit it. I’m obviously online. I could play the content. I’m not adversely affected so stop treating me as if I was whining about missing this and advocating other people should miss out on things because I’m not.
Like I said. Lets stay on topic and put this nationalist crap aside. It is tiresome, inappropriate, and likely just get us all infractions because the mods seem heavy handed at times.

In some areas the weather has turned into a blizzard. The heavy wet snow is a threat for roof collapse.
“Coupled with the high winds we mentioned earlier, the threat of downed trees, power outages, and, due to the weight of the heavy, wet snow, roof collapses exists with this storm. Whiteout conditions are possible, at times. Travel will be difficult, if not impossible. " -http://www.weather.com
While people -shouldn’t- be outside, as with any note worthy storm, there are usually casualties. Whether or not someone deserved it or not is an issue I refuse to touch. With nearly 9 million people out of power and in some areas the tempature dropping below freezing I imagine there is a risk for the elderly, young, and sick.
As for the destruction of houses and what not, there will be more than just mere water damage as Tuesday’s morning high tide rolls in coupled with already flooding areas. The estimated damage as I last said was 100 billion, the news source didn’t say who said it, and I don’t remember the station. Just walked into the room to see what my wife was doing.
I’m not saying anyone deserves any special treatment one way or another, but the truth is that the east coast does not get storms like this. Maine gets “north easterns” which are brutal snowstorms, but tropical storms like Sandy off the whole east coast is just rare.
You’re calling me racist? For what? I never said North America should get special treatments. I never posted saying anyone should be left out because they’re non-US. You’re blanketing me and thousands of other players because of what a few people on the forums said?
You’re just going to get the thread locked and I don’t feel like having a Mod breathing down my neck so I’m not going to validate anymore posts with a response. Lets stay on topic and leave nationalist sentiments at the door.

Overreacting? Right. The news reporter talking about someone he knew driving in a pick-up that was seconds away from being swept straight into a Bay was an over reaction to a little rain. New York’s transformers exploding leaving, last estimate was 1.2 million people out of power. Their subways are flooded with last count 3 feet of water. People die in storms all the time.
Yes. At worst wind/water damage. You’re right. Everything else that happens isn’t because of the storm, it is because of just pure concidental bad luck. On top of that, my post did not say whether I agreed or disagreed. It was simply showing the difference between the scenarios.
I’m not even going to bother justifying the racist part of your reply with any real attention other than a snicker because no one here was acting like America was a better country. Just one facing what is considered a “historic” tropical storm. As called such by the news/weather channel.
But hey. We’re just overreacting.
