Why the "what's in it for me" attitude?

Why is Orr so underpopulated these days? Is every player seriously in it for the karma and gold? What happened to just playing for fun?

If you want fun, go do LA/WvW and have a blast with map chat instead. As it stands, the only reason people were willing to put up with Orr was the rewards, which draws people and consequently you do things together. With virtually no reward, Orr was deserted by those people you don’t like, which means you no longer can do things together, and that means Orr is no longer fun.

To be perfectly honest, Orr is full of annoying distractions (5 seconds immo, persistent enemies, lots of swimming, temple statues). The only “fun” part, if there ever was one, was perhaps defending Penitent and Shelter together. Then they killed it.

CS was destroyed months ago, ANET nerfed the entire zone into the ground, then nerfed it some more just to make sure, you can spend hours down there and not get any decent drops,

Basically what anet want you to do is

Jormag>Teq>Shatterer>Maw>Wurm>SB – and if you have your daily after them, log out and come back and do it again tomorrow, you can also take an extra 45mins – 1 hour and do the new content, then log out.

Unfortunately, this seems to be true.

I spent about half an hour in Cursed Shore (DR) yesterday and virtually nobody is there. Penitent and Shelter was destroyed. Even escorting the tactician proved to be a real "challenge"*

Then I guested to Darkhaven, and there’s nobody. Nobody even bothered to escort the new walls for penitent. Back then a Champion KFC would spawn (followed by confused screams of OHKO), now there were only 3 people, including me.

If it wasn’t for Arah, Cursed Shore would be non-existent.

ANet may have tried to reduce item prices by reducing your ways to obtain them. Instead, people go for cold-hard cash and considering ANet hasn’t done anything about it, it is possible they do sanction CoF runs as a way to keep the prices high (and lure people to convert gems to gold)

*: A Veteran Risen Abomination which conveniently ignores every single mobility impairment, moves faster than you, and have a bunch of immobilizing minions can either be seen as a challenge or attempted brain murder

We don't like Trahearne *Spoiler Warning* [merged]

The situation:
The World is in danger. The band that brought the fight to the source of the problem is broken, the organizations that could do something refuse to work together, the end is near.

The solution:
Someone has to take charge, beat senses into the organizations, and once again bring the fight to the source of the problem.

The problem:
That someone is Trahearne

Trahearne is a firstborn of Sylvari, a race of Salads (literally). This particular firstborn decided he wants to be a Necromancer, bringing his full name to Trahearne, Salad Necromancer.

Zhaitan is an elder dragon which was born when Cthulhu and Medusa were emo teens. His particular powers are rising sunken lands and rising the undead. His full name is Zhaitan, the Necromantic Elder Dragon.

So, we have a Dragon Necromancer attacking the world. In retaliation, the world unites under a Salad Necromancer. After the Dragon Necromancer died, the Salad Necromancer is officially in charge. You may have noticed that the title “Necromancer” is still around, so at the end of the day, The Undead rules over the world. Well played.

Trahearne was introduced during the battle for Claw Island. In that particular mission, he demonstrated clairvoyant level of prediction, but nothing of particular about his leadership. Indeed, if there’s one leadership capability he demonstrated, it was “follow a more competent person”.

After that, Trahearne, being a Salad, suggests that we go seek the wisdom of Salad Goddess, and through her “vision”, we were told that Trahearne will be the leader of the world. At this point, the Salad Necromancer was good enough to know he’s actually not a commander, but merely a scholar. The Salad Goddess said “all is well” and gave him Salad Ultima Weapon.

At this point, Trahearne again demonstrates his leadership capability by following you around. After helping your particular organization, YOU suggested that maybe, uniting is good if you all don’t wanna die.

After that, YOU send for the others to meet. YOU beat senses into their heads. And yet SALAD NECROMANCER suddenly “has the respect of the three organizations”

What did Trahearne do that he gained their respect? Absolutely nothing.
What had Trahearne demonstrated that he has the capability to actually lead? Absolutely nothing
What did Trahearne get credit for? ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING

The real problem with Trahearne is the fact that he doesn’t deserve even a lick of what he gets. Aside from what a Salad Goddess said about her own child, there is no evidence that Trahearne is even remotely capable of doing what he’s supposed to do.

For battle of retaking Claw Island, everything Trahearne did can be surmised as this:

Trahearne: we have a big battle in front of us everyone! ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Vigil: Sir, we have manpower, we can describes everything in detail
Priory: Sir, we have firepower, we can yadda yadda
Whispers: Sir, we have agility, we can dabba dabba

Trahearne: Sounds good, now do what you wanna do. I’ll sit back and watch

No questions, no recap, nothing. Claw Island was successfully retaken not because of Trahearne’s leadership, but precisely because he didn’t take any part in it, and let everybody do what they were about to do anyway

And yet, by the time the battle is over, an asura said “there was 1 : gazillion chance we’d succeed, you know” and people answered “if that 1 is Trahearne, I’ll take my chances”

It insults the player’s intelligence and hard work. What he DID do, was going up the highest platform available, put serious firepower around him, and ordered us to do the job. When the big bad boss came, instead of giving advice, he described the Obvious.

He described things like “those green gloopy mess he dropped is poisonous, don’t come into contact with it”. Well, guess what, Marshal Obvious, everyone at the front line already knows that, primarily because someone has gotten into contact with it before you said anything. That’s the kind of information you break out BEFORE the mission.

In short, Trahearne, a lone scholar obsessed with Orr without any experience in organizations, especially regarding military, economy, logistics, and such, becomes a leader just because. And he became the leader in the first place because THE PACT LEADERS LISTENED TO US WHEN WE NOMINATED HIM. You’d think that regarding respect, we have more than Trahearne do.

The real solution:
Get rid of Trahearne entirely. Leave no mark of his existence.
Replace Trahearne with Destiny’s Edge. Personal storyline thus becomes you trying to consolidate them before engaging the other orders

The dungeons tell the Lore of each places instead. CoF, for example, tells the story of Flame Legion. AC tells the story of the Searing.

There.

I feel the 90% health is a reasonable compromise since you’re playing a berserker build. If you go below 90%, you will probably need to move away from what’s hurting you and patch yourself up or else you’ll die. However, if you do find yourself being at less than 90% health quite often, then perhaps ruby orbs would be a better choice (although I think avoiding going below 90% health would be an even better option).

90% is quite high to maintain. Falling off a small cliff, getting hit by AoE… mere scratches can take down more than 10% of your HP in one hit

Ruby stack seems to be a better choice for stable output

Listing fee + 10% sale fee???

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Raestloz.7134

Raestloz.7134

Yes, and that in no way contradicts anything I said. You pay the listing fee up-front, and what you pick up when the item sells is exactly what the “Projected Profit” value states.

It is unintuitive and misleading. You don’t go around claiming the “profit” is 20s when there is 5s cost to make that happen, which actually means the profit is 15s. Shady salesmen and marketing companies all around the world use that method to attract buyers, but we’re the seller here, and we really could use a more accurate accounting.

What good would “not taking into account the listing fee in ‘projected profit’” do? Especially in high value, hundreds of gold transactions. I list an item at 500g value, see a listing fee of, say, 25g and see a “projected profit” field, I’d assume that any sane person would take into account the whole listing fee into the “projected profit”

Otherwise, what’s the point of taking into account the sale tax in the first place? If they CAN take into account the sale tax (which is not seen anywhere), what’s stopping them from taking into account the listing fee (which is visible right there)?

So no, it’s not inane. It’s incredible how narrow one’s vision becomes when they try to discredit others.

Do they HAVE to include the listing fee? It depends entirely on how you perceive the word “intuitive” and how willing you are to label newbies as noobs.

in Lore

Didn’t Adelbern summon Foefire to wipe his city? Perhaps Ebonhawke was spared because it technically isn’t part of “Ascalon City”

The Ascalonians are not “bad guys” (Ebonhawke is technically Ascalonian), only the ghosts are, and we can certainly thank the Charr for that. Ironically, Charr chose to abandon the one thing that made Searing possible (Flame Legion) and go for Iron instead.

The one event I encountered had a ghost scout reporting to his ghost captain that Charrs are coming. Depending on your race, this may very well be true, but I think the common ghosts are basically trapped in reliving their past. Specifically, the time when they were still fighting the Charrs.

The only ghost capable of actual thinking seem to be Adelbern.

Ah, ANet,if only you put as much work into pleasing your customers as you screw them in every possible way

Lol. The projected profit is much more useful as it is now because you know exactly how much money you will see in the TP when/if the item sells. It’s awesome the inane things people will complain about.

No, they have never include the list fee in the “projected profit”. The “projected profit” is what you will see when you pick up your earnings from the sale. So when you post something for 1g you know ahead of time you will only be picking up 90s. That’s why the listing fee is listed separately, you’ve already paid that ahead of time. Simply subtract it from the “projected profit” to get the actual sales income.

If you don’t want to whip out a calculator every time, you need to charge at least 20% over the cost of whatever you are selling to break even, well actually a trivial 2% profit (1.20 × 0.85 = 1.02).

Suggestion: Elite to 4th utility

Raestloz.7134

Why is everyone suggesting to remove elites instead of taking the more sensible option … vastly buff them.

Mortar: Increase duration to 100 seconds, spawn 3 mortars (so you can barrage with non-engis). Problem is just that 1 Mortar is worthless.

Not enough. Mortars are incredibly useless unless you can form an artillery regimen with it. 1200 range is not far enough to cover important bits, and short enough for most professions to just stroll over and start screwing you.

For instance, Engineer itself has Jump Shot, a 700-range gap closer.
Elementalist has Ride the Lightning (900) or Staff Fire 4 (600). Not to mention teleport Cantrip (600)

Mesmer has teleport (900)
Thief has bleeping stealth
Guardian has bleeping teleport or leap (about 600-700)
Warrior also has leap

To make sure you won’t touch Mortar again, ANet decided that mortar:
1) Has very slow projectile. Enough to warrant clairvoyant-level of targeting
2) Cannot shoot anything that is within 600 range of itself, so enemies don’t have to go the whole 1200, the only need to go 600

Either you buff the range to 3000 AND increase the projectile speed or just remake Mortar into some kind of portable Bazooka (or, Balthazar forbid, Heat-Seeking Missile Launcher)

Yes only on one outfit, keep in mind IRL there is gravity.

I always pick the body type with the biggest bust size and quite frankly there is no H cup. D/E maybe, but certainly not H. Now, if this was Norn forum…

The one outfit that most prominently showcases a cleavage and makes an impression of “big bewbs” is Wizard’s coat (T3 light). I also get the same “big bewbs” impression from Stalwart Coat (personal story reward, medium) and Linen Garment (personal story reward, light, I believe it’s Student Coat or Country Coat).

I compared them by going to character selection screen, rotate them 90 degrees, and select the different characters while focusing on the torso they all are of the same size (all 3 characters have the same body type). Yes, I have that much curiosity. No, I’m not the nerd in the basement your jock buddy always joked about

Some armors do, in fact, change the bust size. The most practical example is Apprentice coat. Simply Equip/unequip it on your Hero window, you’ll see your character’s bust size magickally decrease while equipping the piece.

I’m feeling like maybe you missed the point I was making with the score. DR and HoD are WINNING against BP this match. While the score may lead people to believe otherwise, and the commanders on here may feel good stomping a lower population server after a prolonged battle against a much larger WvW server in eBay, the truth is we aren’t doing as good as we should.

Notice in the red box the server evolution points. This shows if we are moving up or down in points. As you can clearly see, BP is losing.

I don’t know, if Brazil’s soccer team have to fight Indonesia’s and Timor Leste’s (and steamroll them) for days on end, their performance won’t be rated as good as when they face Spain’s, for instance

It also showcases how poor the system is. Quite frankly, while we indeed asked for “more varied” matches, we didn’t mean “pit us against an outrageously superior enemy whose mooks we can’t even defeat”.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

in Engineer

Raestloz.7134

I really think that the weapons themselves are already enough.

Seriously:
Grenade Kit – Grenades
Med Kit – Bandage packs
Flamethrower – kitten rifle with flames on it
Elixir Gun – kitten rifle with toxin tubes
Tool kit – Wrench

Do people REALLY need an entire hobosack just to determine what an engineer is carrying? Because frankly, enemies can’t see your back when you’re not running away (that is, actively engage the enemy and is something to worry about).

Kits are designed to clearly show you what you’re wearing, which is all fine and dandy, lest you think you’re wearing a Med Kit instead of Flmaethrower. The problem with this is the fact that the skill bar already tells you what you’re having, so it’s redundant at best, and a terrible fashion sense at worst

I watched the video of that guy that sneaked into the enemy base as an asura engineer. Basically he was so tiny, they couldn’t even see him, let alone what kit he was using. This argument could probably work on a Norn, but it falls flat once your character starts shrinking.

You’re actually supporting my argument, in case you’re wondering.
Norn: Nords are so big, they don’t need backpacks to show what they’re wearing. This would include Charrs as well
Asura: Asuras are so small, whatever they’re wearing isn’t easily visible, rendering any attempt of using backpacks as identification pointless

Human and Sylvari?

The idea that hobosacks are needed to help the enemy know what kit you are in is the weakest argument Ive seen on these forums.

Hobosack visibility is greatly reduced with any sort of range especially when the engineer is looking toward you. This is quite apparent on Asura and Norn.

The Bomb kit and toolkit have the same sack.

You are more likely to recognize the kit they are in by the weapon they are carrying more then the sack on their backside. Even more likely by the distinct skill animations.

When the engineer is facing towards you, you essentially cannot see anything, if at all.

Can you see what element an elementalist is attuned in when you see them from afar without clicking on them to check the status?

Right.

I’m not able to play this week, so I’ve not experienced the lopsided play and what it feels like. However, HoD and DR should keep their heads high and battle on. As it stands right now you both have gained server points, and BP has dropped.

Its a lot like college football. Its not whether you win or lose that matter, but what your rank is, what your opponents rank is, and by how much you win/lose.

Last I checked, BP has 60k, DR 19k, HoD 16k, but it’s 2 days ago. Considering that BP is T5 and DR HoD are T7/8 (I don’t even know if tiers still exist anymore in this system?), the numbers do sound legit, and so outrageous the programmers need to be choked with bland KFCs

On a side note, you guys are right that numbers matter a lot. We experienced that each and every week against Ebay and there just isn’t much you can do when your opponent can cover more of the maps than you for longer periods of time.

Eh, we faced SB, BP, DH, etc etc etc, all of which outnumber us every single time. The whole “come on, guys, we know how being outnumbered feels” doesn’t seem to be appropriate, considering being outnumbered is the entire reason why DR / HoD are in their tier. IF you are facing someone of higher tier, that sympathy holds water, but for the current match up, it doesn’t. So, for the love of GW2, please BP people, drop the whole act already we (DR and HoD) knows exactly how it feels to be outnumbered.

Someone posted that we should have learned that splitting forces and taking more camps/tower/keeps rather than zergballing just to take one thing at a time is a better PPT strategy. I agree with you that this is an area we can improve greatly upon. We don’t always do as good as we could using our manpower wisely, both on offense and on defense. How many times I’ve seen this scenario – A 30 man zerg takes tower, all 30 then move to camp (none left to defend/siege) and then on to another camp to fill zerg’s supply…meanwhile a small group from enemy follows behind and retakes the tower and camp before the PPT is up, netting us almost no points for all our time/effort/manpower.

This strategy certainly is true. It’s simply a matter of not enough man to fill in the positions, either because they are simply not there or because they don’t like having to sit around (they’d rather watch Doctor Who)

If the enemy missed you, it’s shown as a white “Miss!”, when you try to attack a target but the projectile is “Obstructed!” by something, it’s shown in red.

The “Miss”, I think, is more like him trying to attack many targets at once but got blinded in turn, which causes all of his attacks to miss. I play an engi and when my Blunderbuss missed, it’s shown as a red “Miss!”

Wait… what? We only hit you after you us too so that evens it out I suppose.
But if you state that you flip everything day in day out, do you expect us to be fine with that? Of course we’re going to retaliate!
Last night we actually defended garrison against a DR zerg and returned the invasion favour by paying DR BL a visit and stealing Bay from IoJ and getting Garrison and a tower or two.

It’d be great if DR would pay IoJ BL a visit once in a while too, rather than just focussing on FC BL for what I can only imagine is some quick WXP and a little PPT gain, since you seem to not care that we retake it all back fairly easy with the same few people we tried to defend with…

People take your BL, then they go to sleep/work, so immediately after we PvDoor your BL, you PvDoor us.

it’s pretty much economics: IoJ has far too many numbers for DR to even match, so we take whatever point we can get first (that is, your points), because fighting IoJ’s numbers will only end up in stalemate (during better days) or actually a loss (during the worse days), because you’ll be taking our points while we try to keep up with IoJ’s Unrelenting Force Numbers

It’s been like that ever since I started playing WvW (which is a few months ago), and right now it’s more benign, my first days of WvW is like being a Russian during the early days of German Blitzkrieg, if German used Trebuchets, Onagers, and Battering Rams instead of Messerschmitt-s and Panzer-s.

DR do, in fact, go on the offensive against the Outmanner instead of the Outmanned, but mostly try to go for stable points first (which, depending on the time taken, can be interpreted as “most days”)

Goodjob taking SM Ferg, shame about your BL but

Never liked that bloody castle!!!

But dont touch our kitten and your bl wont get flipped

Aren’t your internet muscles big… It helps that you have 50 other peeps to help you flex. Took you long enough to take bay.

5 mins or 5 hours or 5 days, it doesn’t matter, it’s a win for us and a loss for you.

Had we ever tell you on how it took you 1 hour to get Green Briar? No? Because we don’t care. We lost the tower to you and that what matters.

Here’s what is said = 5 mins or 5 hours or 5 days, it doesn’t matter, it’s a win for us and a loss for you.

Here’s what we hear = It doesn’t matter how bad someone plays, when you have enough people, you can overcome your own inabilities.

You can do two things. Try to recruit more players or….. well the easiest thing to do…. CRY!

Darkhaven outnumbered us 1:20 for months so I know how it feels. When we see their zerg we go the other way. That’s how it is. Deal with it.

I wouldn’t know, it’s not like DR fought Darkhaven a few months ago, and it’s not like IoJ wasn’t there when we met Darkhaven… oh wait….

Anyway, Devona’s Rest doesn’t have night shift, so night time is a bit lax. Considering the state of things, I think it’s actually better if DR keeps going down the tier, puts a bit of rest after an onslaught of Night-teamed servers.

[…] told at one point to stay in a safe spot while they fought a boss.
[..] was this just an elitist group I happened to find myself grouped with? I’m really hoping that’s not what this game’s community is like normally.

Dont worry. A elitist party probably kick you at the very first moment when you demostrate dont know what are you doing and, most important, SAYING NOTHING ABOUT THAT.
This “elitist group” carry you to the end of the dungeon, give you free work tokens and full cover on death situations and YOU are here, in the forums, crying like a baby because THEY have the fault of ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? .

L O O O O O L

If that is elitist, i would love to see you being kicked hundred times from “gentle soul partys”. Right at middle of run because you DONT SAY ITS YOUR FIRST TIME; when they note your lack of all interest on make yourself useful for the group.

^^^^

Seriously. They don’t kick you, but they do all of your work for you instead.

They don’t kick you and find someone else instead.
They do everything for you and let you in on the free loot.
Think about it

The only way they can be nicer is by teaching you, but really, should’ve said something. IF you say something from the get go, someone might start teaching you about how things work

Have you ever been able to stunlock a veteran?

On my own? Of course not.
With a group of people? Yep.

Sustained stunlock? And I can only assume with very coordinated guildies?

Because with pug, it’s a physical impossibility
Methinks Defiant is certainly not the way to go with. It’s built entirely with the concept that people will stunlock, but punishes pugs so hard it’s better to dps the crap out of the thing

Defiant timer seem to be the best solution, compared to the current defiant of course.

Gear is soldiers everything

Stopped skip-reading there.

If you read somewhat further you’ll understand why I use PTV gear. Its because of the channeling time + you have to stay still for casting the AOE.

for PVE, don’t need PVT at all – if you’re getting downed a lot in dungeons/fractals, you gotta rethink what you’re doing

for WvW, half PVT as staff is fine, if you’re not a total baddie you can add in some other stuff

there’s only 2 things you need to stand still for: meteor shower (just time it carefully) and water 5 (it’s short cast), rest is all on the move anyway

you don’t need full PVT gear

If you’re always in the back, sure.

But what good are:
Water 4
Air 3 & 5
Earth 4 & 5

For chasing?

The US is not the only client base. Other countries do not seem to mind the RNG.

“The publisher saw a decrease in sales across North America and Europe. These regions made up only 13 percent, while the biggest draw came from Korea which made up 64 percent of all sales.”

Most probably because they don’t bother posting in English when they can rant in Korean?

Actually, from what I have heard a lot of Asian countries are quite happy with gambling systems. Culture thing I guess, could change over time of course. Used to be that Koreans loved the kitten out of their grind fest games like Aion but have started to slowly shift away from that.

I don’t know about Korea, but Japan certainly has pakitteno…

And Korean games tend to be F2P + P2W, with lots of RNG boxes, so I’d assume it’s more because they’re used to it.

Seriously ANet? You censor the onomatopoeia of cashier machine?

For a story that claims it’s living, Living Story is incredibly meh

Dynamic Events provide more life than Living Story, and that’s saying something.

I’ll use the quick Queensdale example: water pipes. You don’t help the water pipes, they either gets poisoned or it’s broken, and you’ll need to help to fix it.

Heck if the pipe is poisoned, people in Shaemoor market (in front of Queensdale gate) gets poisoned. It’s a start, at least

But Living Story?

I actually like the legendary skins… They’re funny and unique. And they’re just skins at the end of the day… no one is required to get them.

I don’t mind it as much as other people, but I still have to see your rainbows while we’re slaying “the next greatest threat to Tyria.”

The bow isn’t going away, so they might as well go full hilarious and make a legendary quiver that lets you dispense alcoholic beverages to your allies every 10 minutes.

Ain’t nothing wrong with rainbows man. Don’t get depressed.

Rainbow is that glorious bridge to leprechauns that lifts your hope after the depressing rain is over

Rainbow is good. Uncle Sheo approves

Say that I (Leeroy) put up a Healing Turret
It provides heal and regeneration to me and another ally (Jenkins)

My Healing Power certainly affects the heal and regeneration on me
Whose Healing Power affects the heal and regeneration on Jenkins?

It’s pretty good for 1v1, and lacks in team v team. It provides quick turnaround, but loses its function when the action moves somewhere else. In short, one of the few elites that does its job properly

The stun is nice, so is the healing, but everything else relies heavily on luck. If you’re the ONLY target around, congratulations: you have net turret ready to immobilize you. If not, it’s a chance of getting immobilized
