How do we explain the existence of Elementalist Charrs??

Elementalists do not whack their weapons at their enemies. Rifles shoot bullets, swords slash through flesh, but even daggers do not touch the enemies directly. In short, magic, just like Flame Legion.

Flame Legion worshipped all the wrong gods, but is it really their fault when the gods did bring results (when they last)?

If someone is advertising a speed run, and in the ad already says ping gear, no reason not to. But if for other dungeons, fractals, and what not, where no such thing pinging gear is applied, /inspect becomes possible for people to discriminate against people with other builds.

It is not a matter of discriminating other-than-zerker builds, /inspect will help to avoid builds and gear that are hands down just plain bad for group play and are not suited for any kind of teamwork and cooperation. You can find many examples in this thread, MF gear and 5-signet warriors are the most obvious cases.

Exactly. It does. It will segregate players. Your complaining is equally ironic.

Isn’t segregation already here? In this single thread you can notice the presence of at least two different groups of players with different approaches, that don’t want to play with each other. Even a simple discussion between these two groups turns into a heated argument. Why force them to play together if the don’t want to?

Because you don’t arm separatists with nuclear ICBMs just because they don’t want to have anything to do with the government?

I realize yesterday after reading all these posts and thinking about it a while that maybe we all are thinking about this the wrong way. Maybe Anet isn’t “lazy” but brilliant as the sickle is as disappointing to us as the “resort” is to the refugees. The sickle was overpromised and under delivered much like the resort. It was a “ripoff” of the mining pick much like cheap tourist junk we all are exposed to in rl tourist traps. Maybe the long animation times were done on purpose to make us mad on purpose, because the tool is “broken” because its cheap Consortium “crap.” Even if this is true, I am still not buying one as I want cooler, quicker tools, not themed broken ones. This entire land and the resort are all based on this theme, which is why it is so difficult, so rough and feels unwelcome and fake.

I’m not sure why this isn’t even in the game. People are gonna check your gear anyway, by getting you to ping it. There’s really no reason an inspect option ISN’T in the game.

Elitism comes along with it – but if someone is advertising a speedrun and kicks you for being PVT, you had no room joining that group and were being ignorant by do so.

Rather than complaining it will segregate players, perhaps they should think about joining likeminded groups?

Just my 2c.

Rather than trying your best to make sure only the best of the best, the creme de la creme, the paladin of the knights, the extreme of the elites, play with each other and quickly boot everybody else in an effort to play as quickly as possible and skipping as many contents as possible, pressuring everybody else as much as possible…

Don’t you think it’s better to foster a community that enjoys the contents and tries to find variety and takes everything with a hearty laugh?

It’s amazing, really: people want a game, but want to skip as many contents as possible, the end of the tunnel being Ken and Barbie fashion stylist

ask yourself: “Do I enjoy the fractals?”
“Do I enjoy the dungeons?”

If you actively choose to ignore as many contents as possible, most probably the answer is “No”. You don’t want the dungeon, you just want the candy at the end.

I can’t do anything, but I certainly can suggest that you try some other games, maybe you’ll enjoy them more than GW2’s “dungeons”?

He’s a bit of a Mary Sue – largely because unless you play a fig-tree he just comes out of nowhere at level 50 or so and is suddenly the most important thing since individually packaged sliced cheese.

Even if you do play a fig-tree, all that gives you is a chance to meet him early on and learn that he’s “Mr. Important and mysterious.”

You don’t see him evolve as a character, or even show a flaw. He’s a scholar one moment and a marshal the next – but that’s just kind of handed to him, and not through character growth.

The flaw I find in a lot of the characters in GW2 is that they put their stories on the website / wiki or whatever, and not in the game. Though with this guy, the story isn’t even on the website…

He’s just BATMAN. And we’ve got to deal with it.

I feel that Destiny’s Edge is much more suited to lead the Pact

Who had fought a dragon before? Not Trahearne
Who wield the legendary swords of Ascalon? Not Trahearne
Who actually battled their way to experience? Not Trahearne

Raestloz.7134

thats hilarious because
1. those are all opinions =)
2. NCSoft owning Wild Star is fact.

and i will bet that the micro-transaction model used in GW2 will be in Wildstar.

Actually, 1 and 2 were facts. WildStar’s artstyle is more comparable to Torchlight’s because it is a cleaner cartoon style without the characteristics of the WoW style (ie: oversized spiky shoulders). And no information on the business model is available – that is not an opinion, it’s a fact. They are still debating on the model.

And if it is – good. That means that WildStar will be a game with no subscription fee, no pay to win, and the ability to buy everything in the game with gold.

I can’t name one MMO business model that is more reasonable.

Pretty much anything without RNG. If it has gambling for items in it, it will be the same garbage cash shop that is worse than every other MMO out there currently in GW2 now. EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, soon to be Rift, etc. all have better cash shops that guild wars, and most of those have sub options. I can buy any skin/membership/anything I want in EQ1 and 2 with in game gold as long as it’s for sale. All of these games are more “free to play” than GW2 could ever hope to be as long as they gate content behind RNG boxes. Oh, and I don’t have to gamble with hours of my time that Anet likes to waste! The only 2 games I can think of with worse cash shops is Neverwinter and ToR, and both of those games are notoriously crappy.

Skins are not content. Lotro has races and quest areas that you have to pay for. DDO has the same. And EQ 1 and 2 are owned by Sony and don’t provide content updates nearly as often. I’m not sure either are currently as ambitious as Guild Wars 2 is.

Also don’t they offer option subs?

This. At the end of the day, nothing in Guild Wars 2’s cash shop or business model is unreasonable. The RNG boxes offer SKINS. NOT CONTENT. NOT POWER. SKINS.

No other MMO on the market offers the large, frequent patches for the price of this game. Very few MMOs offer gold -> cash shop currency conversion – and most that do involve pay-to-win shops.

I disagree. Also Sony does weekly updates still, just like they always have. Every F2P I have played in the past 6 months let me get anything I wanted in their cash shop with in game money, sans Neverwinter, which was awful.

Defend it all you want, I’ll continue to spread the word to those I know of the shady business model they have in place. At the end of the day I’m happy because I’m not ignorant enough to buy the content gated behind a .2% chance drop

Have you realized that ANet might have put in 0.000001% chance for these things?

.2% is actually very generous of you.

But at the end of the day, gamblers are gamblers, defenders are defenders, and investors are not gamers. Try as we might, they will never get rid of Random Number Female Canis lupus familiaris boxes. I actually expect ANet to start putting every single thing in RNFClf for the heck of it: Repair canister? RNFClf. Crystals? RNFClf. Stones? RNFClf. Clothes? RNFClf. Colors? RNFClf Oh wait…

There are so many things I’d like to buy in GW2, but as things stand, I’d rather throw my money at Rubicon so they can make “Great Huge War Game”

You guys should consider one of the hundreds of programs that let you change tones, brightness and whatnot.

The advanced ones should have a “color replace” function and probably dynamic functionality so you can make custom filters that activate when some parameters are met.

I remember a forum post somewhere by a colorblind guy that used to fix his own games.

Shouldn’t be illegal as it doesn’t intermingle with the game in any way, and is no different from say using a fancy screen to play in sepia mode or whatever.

It’s the flashing, not the colors.
Like when riding a car on the passenger’s seat, and the trees keep breaking the sun: it makes the sunlight flicker really fast and gives me a migraine. On long car rides (I can’t drive), I put two bandannas over my eyes. Sunglasses don’t help at all, though it makes things darker it doesn’t stop the flickering.

I don’t see how software could help with this.

And then things like many skill animations going on at once… ugh. Wish there were simpler skill animations.

There should be software that is able to counter flashing, something like dynamic contrast…

Say it reads that more than x% of the screen is covered in “too bright colors” as defined by you and a milisecond later it’s not…

It could kindda flash the opposite way by lowering brightness in the most bright period and augmenting it on the darkest one. No, it wouldn’t look pretty exactly but I suppose it would help. Probably epileptics know more about this stuff…

Unless the software intelligently only changes the contrast at the exact spot of the problematic area, you’ll end up with not only a flickering area, but with flickering screen.

I am thinking it is a bug as well; acting like a mining pick. The water animation makes sense using the harvesting sickle from the side — juicy plants. I’ll wait for ANet to update a fix for it.

It’s not a bug.

ANet explicitly made a water geyser animation for that. It means that’s the way Anet intends the mining pic… sorry, SICKLE to be used. Most probably, because the original sickle animation doesn’t include stabbing Mother Earth

They COULD just use the Advanced Harvesting Sickle
They COULD just not include a geyser

But they CHOSE to use the Molten Alliance Mining Pick
But they CHOSE to include a geyser

All for the sole reason of increasing the amount of time you spend in staring at the vegetation mesh their art team worked so hard to make.

To be perfectly honest, most probably they want you to be instantly recognized: “OOOOH, that’s the new SICKLE, it’s SICK!”, and the original sickle animation is too short to put a flashy geyser in, so they chose the most obvious (and easiest) route: reskin the mining pick

Yeah, with Elixir Combo, I seem to miss something. Namely, I just chug down to elixirs and stand there with no real interaction. The 3 toss elixirs are all aimed at me, so it went down as “chug down elixirs, activate auto-attacks, sit back and watch”. Well, not really sit back and watch, but during the whole machine gun ordeal, things feel a bit empty, especially since they all have long cooldowns so I don’t press anything at all.

With this combination, in every engagement I always have something to press, Surprise Shot in CD? pull out the turret. Turret explodes? Surprise Shot finished CD. Surprise Shot finished? Everything else in cooldown? Pull Out Tool Kit and start trolling with confusing pry bar.

Yeah, now I enjoy my engi. Thanks much!

What feature do you miss from your old MMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Raestloz.7134

Raestloz.7134

Although everyone being able to get loot can be nice, it really just promotes abuse. Why try when you can just hit the mob once, get credit and let everyone else do the work.

The original loot style let you hit the mob once, pull it to someone else who then is stuck doing 99% of the work, and not only do you get the loot, but they don’t.

There have been plenty of times in other MMOs that a jerk player would follow me around using a class with fast, ranged attacks (usually a hunter/ranger type) who would wait for me to start casting a spell, tag my target real quick, and the result of my more powerful spell landing meant I had to tank and kill the enemy without getting either XP or loot for it.

The crafty ones would tag the mob while my spell was in flight, leaving me no other choice but to leave the area until they stopped.

Remember Ragnarok Online?

Ah… the days where crafty kittens steal the loot from under your nose because the thing FALLS ON THE GROUND and NOT INSTANCED. I hate that system

By the way, GW2’s system is not that bad, unless you’re in an event, at which point you’re just a d0()ch&, because the strength of enemies scale with the number of people around.

What I DO miss:

There has long been the hatched Karka thing, and THOSE conditions don’t get cleansed by anything either, they will blind you, slow your mobility and one other condition and I have tried the new heal turret (>.<), Elixir C, Formula 409, and non of these removes any of the new conditions…

What is the point of having condition removal in your build if they keep adding conditions that are immune?

The Alien facer#p# is not a condition, the same way Soothing Mist is not a boon

They are…. IDK… but definitely not condition. And definitely horrifying

it’s only a matter of time before they change the whole facer#p# thing to give a condition: Injected.

As for the Alchemy trait, why use Protection Injection instead of Invigorating Speed? Not saying you’re wrong, just wanna hear the reasoning

I’ve never tried Tool Kit, I might want to try that. Is the Power Wrench ground targeted attack or is it targeted attack like Surprise Shot?

Seems balanced, with a Stun Breaker that also gives me fury. The combination of Speedy Kit and Tool Kit is an escape combo that can help me out of sticky stuff.

In short, guerilla warfare. Don’t attack the enemy, but attack structures that are as far away possible from each other to splinter the zerg

A few points to think of:

1)Outmanned only triggers when you’re greatly outnumbered. Even a big enough zerg still needs time to batter down a gate with rams. This tactic will only work if you have enough man to split up and still have enough to quickly break down the gates and kill the Guild Claimant officer before the enemy scouts spot you
2)This tactic may require the steamrolled to defend a place long enough to keep the steamroller from ignoring the swords on their camps when they’re taking down a keep/tower (which is worth more).

Yeah I don’t recommend my guild to everyone because frankly, we’re not for everyone. We’re on average a bit older, a bit slower, a bit more leisurely than most guilds. We don’t “run” dungeons we play through them. We take our time with stuff. We get there in the end, but we just have fun doing it.

A lot of people find us too casual for their tastes.

Your guild sounds like fun

I’d join that, if I can. I’m in Devona’s Rest, can only guest since my families are there (can’t leave them), but I’d like to engage in good fun for PvE too.

My timezone is GMT+7. When it’s 8AM at West Coast, 5 A at East Coast, it’s 7 PM here.

How are you supposed to get the precursors?

Can’t they just utilize been there done that for precursor?

Make it a precursor of your choice. The rest you have to craft yourself.

It’s the perfect mechanism:
They already have implemented lots of maps. Anyone here ever tried to find PuGs strolling I. Level 50-60 areas? They kind of don’t exist. Utilizing been there done that means more people will see them
The title requires you to do heart missions too. You can’t just steamroll the map with Perma swiftness.
The title requires you to get skill points. Some skill points requires you to actively fight too. Challenge if you’re alone.

I don’t get how they have this amazing system and yet choose to not utilize it. One precursor per title, that’s all. Everything else you have to find by yourself.

Why still downed state in WvW?

it seems to me to many pvp ppl are trying to turn the huge army v army(yes army’s have siege as part of there weapons of choice) fights that is the very description of wvw into 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1..

Wake up this a game, and should be fun. Gw2 has way too many effects, pets, clones, teleports etc, anything but small scale fights is TERRIBLE, just pure aoe spam. Lol just go on youtube and watch some zerg vs zerg fights (even from “organized” guilds)…most of the times they don’t even call a target or even target someone…they just spam aoe. Add the huge lag and what you get is just a terrible gaming experience. I cannot believe there are players who like this…most of them are just bad so they need to hide behind the zerg cos they are too afraid to die. They (the devs…) should encourage small scale fights cos they are much more fun and virtually without lag.
Also this game is basically already a 1v1v1v1v1….. expecially zerg fights, what all the players do is spam aoe dmg, spam boons, spam aoe heals, spam aoe pulls, spam everything. Lol there are often so many red names around you can’t even see the enemy players.

personally hate pvp and would stop playing wvw if they changed it to be just like pvp

Pve is that way —-—->
Wvw IS pvp, or at least should be pvp. This game mode has a lot of potential and the devs should realize that.
Oh btw zerg fights are not even pve. I mean in dungeons you have to use teamplay and often dodge at the right time etc, it’s not a button smashing at all. So my logical deduction is you don’t even like pve…

I don’t know man, I hear there is a button shaped like a castle with “WvW” tool tip on it.

THEN, there is this KILLJOY button shaped like crossing swords, AND IT HAS PVP AS ITS TOOLTIP!

DOES THIS MEAN WVW IS NOT PVP? OH NOES!!!!!

As a side note, the objective of WvW is to gather points, not to engage in an honorable duel as the zerg stopped the fight and watch you in awe.

If you want to be praised for skill, go to PvP instead? It even has the “pvp” tag right there

Why still downed state in WvW?

I don’t understand.

People want to simply raise the health and remove downed state.

What is the difference? He’s down and can’t do much anymore (save for warrior).

And the whole system also works for you. It’s not like it only works on your enemies.

PvP Stalwart Gloves for PvE?

Is there a PvE version of PvP stalwart gloves?

I want the gloves, they look perfect. Sadly, u can’t seem to find what glove it shares the skin with.

The glove is the only one of its kind that covers only half the hands. I like that.

RNG - Please stop Anet.

in Last Stand at Southsun

Raestloz.7134

The worst part of this whole thing? The fact that Anet isn’t listening or taking our concerns into consideration.

Ever since they first introduced this whole RNG feature, it has been nothing but complaints about it. Every time a new RNG box is released, tons of threads show up to complain about it. And this is every single time they do this. People even quit the game over this stuff and refuse to spend any money because of it.

And what happens? Nothing. They keep releasing more and more of them. It is solid proof that they don’t care about how the players feel about this. They only care about the money it is making them, not about how it is affecting their player base.

Just watch. When this Dragon Festival comes, expect to see a new RNG box added to the game with new weapon skins or something else fancy added to it. It just goes to show you that they don’t care about what the players want, they only care about their money.

The worst thing is the fact that they kept dishing this kind of cheating chests out. It means the thing is profitable enough to warrant more, and it means there exists people that buy it

They simply can design even cooler stuff and put it in chests. Those with money will be unable to resist the temptation. Humans are not used to chance, our minds are hardwired with “I have got it” and “I haven’t gotten it”, without any real ability to think of “it simply isn’t worth it” from the get go

Coupled with all those lousy motivators that kept shouting about “the next one will be gold! Never give up” it’s no wonder people keep falling victim to it. People simply were never told about how to “know when to stop”, they’re always taught that there is a chance you’ll succeed, and coupled with my paragraph above, people thinks “the next one will CERTAINLY be gold!”
