Is anyone else getting tired of this “blame the victim” mob mentality that the people against stealth portray?

Get rid of stealth because I die to much from it. How about you just learn how to adapt…. Having to fight illusions is really annoying, getting portal bombed is really annoying, 15k crit warriors with 20k+ life is annoying, but we all just deal with it.

I love you and your logic. May it shine down upon those who feel the game should be tailored to them rather then the genre as a whole.

What’s up with Thieve’s weapon choices, or rather, lack thereof…

For me, the Thief’s biggest issue is weapon viability. Overall, it is 90% dagger/dagger. I would like to see the sword reworked to be a bit more effective, and have a benefit when used from stealth.

Also, using a sword in the offhand would be nifty too.

PS: Anyone use sword in a viable and fun build?

I run Sword/Pistol for PvE and WvW. My build focuses on increasing damage output and can easily crit other players for 14-20k damage in a single pistol whip. Not sure why so many thieves dislike, especially since you can move out of the animation at any time now. If you build yourself right then you won’t have any issues.

I always seem to get better drops running around with my MF set on. I don’t feel gimped nor do I have issues with soloing content. It’s a great thing to have when farming just to increase your chances, also it helps you get more from gathering nodes.

It’s up to personal opinion in the end, my thief uses pow/prec/mf for gear stats.

Like the others before me it’s very hard. I’m no glass cannon and I still prefer to stay in the back with my shortbow just opening combo fields and playing medic/killing adds. In simple instances like the current Tixx dungeon melee is perfectly viable but when it comes to bosses your better off keeping at a distance from it.

It will differ by thief.

I don’t like glass builds and won’t set my thief up as such. My magic find set is as close to glass cannon as I will get since it’s power/prec/mf for the stats. It works alright but with our low health pool is not smart to do so, especially in PvE. Dungeon bosses hit hard, really hard sometimes. I usually end up using my shortbow unless an opportunity for my S/P shows itself. Your survival for consistent dps and combat rezzing is more important then full out rage dps and aggro pulling.

Let alone balancing the thief in general.
Highest burst damage + highest mobility + stealth and now you want to remove the cooldown on weapon swapping while also having NO cooldown on your attacks….. seems legit.

Don’t get me wrong, I love assassin classes. In Gw1 my main was an assassin and I really hoped the thief to be about the same in Gw2.

I mean, the thief is a THIEF and not an assassin. He should use tricks and acrobatics, but the included high DPS is just a joke to balancing.

That’s not a huge can of worms, that’s a truckload of cans with dragons in them.

And lowest health pool, don’t forget that!

Thief like Mesmer revolves around mind games. A lot of players don’t understand or appreciate mind games, writing anything off anything that isn’t obvious and straight forward as cheap. Thieves confound them, and it’s frustrating for them to face things they don’t understand.
A lot of them also have rather inflated egos that are easy to bruise. But that’s almost a given in PvP.

I think this is the best description. When you make people think/panic in the chaos of a fight and they see themselves getting killed quickly their natural reaction is to get kitten come write angry posts on the forums to try and get a little revenge trolling in.

I get kitten seeing Warriors and Guards tank whole groups in WvW and manage to live through the massive onslaught of damage dealt to them but you don’t see me crying nerf, cause there’s Warriors and Guards on our side as well.

Try learning to combat a thief at his own game. If he stealths, dodge backwards and back pedal till s/he pops out of stealth. If it’s a group of thieves then run, you can’t expect to fight 3-4 thieves by yourself and come out the victor. If your still complaining after that I’d hate to see you discover campers in FPS games.

The only thing I’d agree with here is a slightly tweaked health pool, for the better. Aside from that the Thief class is fine. If you want to be OP roll a Warrior…I’m not saying Warriors don’t work for it, just they can dps like us with much more armor and hp.

Sure I will, but I will also allow myself to disregard what most people said because they clearly don’t grasp what constitutes good game-design.

Good game design enforces choice. Not only in the most obvious fashion like what path you want to take through a Dungeon but in every aspect and every moment of game-play.

What stats do you want on your gear? What do I want to do? Where shall I fight? Where shall I move? What ability shall I use?

Currently Initiative fails at this because it gives the player a choice between Damage and Damage. Most builds already limited the number of viable weapons skills and Initiative really doesn’t force interesting choices. Hence we are prone to spam.

With my proposal players would be making active choices about how to spend their Initiative. It’s far more compelling than simply Death Blossom, Death Blossom, Death Blossom .

My current build bases my extra damage off initiative. If I go about spamming my skills I lose initiative thus losing my damage bonuses. Sounds like a very similar trade off system mentioned in your original post.

You may think in your own mind this is a more logical and better designed Thief profession but I disagree completely. I like my class as is and if you’ve put 750+ hours into it already maybe you just need to try something else. That’s nearly, if not, half the amount of time since the game released for beta events in August.

Even with our server stomping the competition in WvW we still had a good showing and lead the siege on a small keep, we even had a commander ask to join us so he could lead the random mobs to us for assistance. Thanks to everyone who helped in the recapture of the garrison and west citadel tower.

neither since they are total crap for thieves. with the stats they have they are a drop in dps no matter how you look at it and the toughness is crap too since it scales awfully with the thief class

If your going to be 100% glass cannon I can understand this assessment but if you wan’t to be a thief with better survivability it doesn’t hurt to stack vit and tough along with your thief necessities. There are so many extra stat boosts coming from armor, trinkets, runes, food, and other upgrades I wouldn’t personally agree with the quoted statement.
