I have to agree that the whole chat system is really lacking and hindering the community. From what I have seen, 1 in 3 players actively pays attention to chat until they receive a tell since it makes a noise and draws their attention.

In another game I had hopes for the forts had portcullis doors in the walls that not only allowed friendly players to sneak back in when surrounded but it creates new strategies for attacking a keep or tower. The attacking force would have to not only watch the doors for a possible flank but cover it to keep more people out.

I thought of a very good example for this. The cliff base beneath Hills has some overhangs in it. A hidden trapdoor/ladder inside is the perfect way to sneak out and in to resupply or attack. Things like that should be upgradeable from the siege master in any keep/tower.

I don’t know if I’d agree with being able to drop supplies in a tower or keep. My reasoning for this is players will no longer care about dolyaks and will weaken the overall strategy of World vs World. Maybe players should be able to donate 10 supply to a location and get a 30min cooldown preventing them from doing it again? The dolyaks need to remain a key factor to gameplay out there.

AoE cap I 100% agree with. No one should be exempt from the damage.

I agree with a variety of maps. I get they want balance but it’s been a year now and I think we’re all capable of handling 4 unique maps.

Yes! I think removing the AoE cap would help with dealing bigger blows to zergs as well as having more unforgiving terrain.

Thank you for your input!

I had another idea to throw out there…

In another game I had hopes for the forts had portcullis doors in the walls that not only allowed friendly players to sneak back in when surrounded but it creates new strategies for attacking a keep or tower. The attacking force would have to not only watch the doors for a possible flank but cover it to keep more people out.

On top of that I believe thieves should have the ability, a max ranked WvW ability, to pick the lock on the door and sneak in. It would be a personal unlock so one thief can’t open it for a group of thieves, only her/himself.

This would increase pressure on defenders since it’s relatively easy to place siege far enough back that attackers can’t hit it without using a catapult.

A perfect example of a keep that could take advantage of this idea is Hills. The west wall along the cliff could greatly benefit from having a “hidden” door. It could also be approached by placing these doors around corners or various locations in the walls that players wouldn’t necessarily check for.

EDIT: I thought about this and rather than make it a Thief only ability it should be one of the morale buffs for a commander I mentioned above. Commanders could unlock a new ability in the WvW panel which, when max ranked, could let a commander send thieves “over the wall” to disrupt defenses.

Just a thought.

Nice idea about the guild commander/wvw commander, but if people simply join the squad of which commander they want to follow, they just see that tag only.

This is a valid argument that many players, including commanders, either fail to remember or don’t know in the first place.

Why are the first dungeons harder than some of the later ones is my question. New players going in to AC explore will probably think dungeons are awful until they’re a high enough level to run CoF, for example.

SE Exp P2 – Mostly champions

AC/CM Exp – Riddled with unforgiving legendaries

Do I have problems completing it? No, but I happen to have been playing this game since beta. I would rather see dungeons like CoF getting revamped to a better difficulty and dumbing down the lowbie dungeons.

Offensive Players

This is the section of World vs World with little need of change. I mean, what can you add to make people more interested in killing bad guys and taking their forts? Well, here’s my take on what could be added:

A) The ability to steal supplies from an enemy outpost
B) Elemental susceptibility for buildings
C) New siege weapons
D) Morale buffs

A

Time and time again you will break into a keep, the PuGs have exhausted your nearest supply camps, and you still have another door/possible heavy fighting ahead. Oh look, the keep you broke into has full supplies and it’s staring you in the face. How would someone handle this in reality? Steal it.

When your supplies sit in a depot in plain view of anyone it makes sense there should be a system for stealing some. My idea for limiting how much can be stolen comes in two parts.

First, since a keep has two sets of walls with depots behind both I propose a keep stores half in the outer section and half behind the inner walls.

Second, this should be ranked up using WvW ability points and have a debuff attached to stop you from stealing every ounce of supplies in a matter of seconds. Becoming more proficient would of course decrease the debuff timer on you.

B

Elemental damage should have the chance of dealing extra damage or even creating elemental hazards to defenders. When you attack a wooden tower with fireballs for example, there should be a chance of you starting a fire or at least dealing some extra damage. Fire beats wood right?

This would encourage defenders to work towards upgrading towers and keeps to make them less vulnerable. It could also create unique situations for classes like the Elementalist were splashing water spells would be needed to douse flames.

C

Building upon the idea behind B it would be prudent to add new siege weapons for these changes.

The first would be a flamethrower. It would be similar to an arrow cart but instead of being a long range anti-crowd weapon it would be a short range one. This weapon would be able to shoot fire a short distance, within 900 range, at groups of enemies to set them alight and deal condition damage. It could also be used to set fire to wooden structures. I realize the flame ram has a similar ability but it’s not effective compared to this idea.

Catapults could do for an upgrade as well. I have rarely found myself using grape shot and I have a better, historically accurate, solution. Fire pots! A catapult could launch fire pots over tower walls or into crowds for devastating effects and would bring some diversity to how people use them.

There are plenty of options here so don’t feel limited to my top two.

D

I believe Commanders should receive a couple “Morale Skills” to help buff their squad. It could be generic buffs like +5% vitality to more specific ones like -5% damage from guards.

It could be added as a small bar, like the pet bar, and should have considerable time on the cooldowns as these should be saved for the right moment to turn the tide of battle. Many battles have been won by simply reigniting the morale in troops, I feel the principle is the same here.

More to come?

All in all I think these changes could bring a lot of unique flavors to World vs World and make players really consider exactly what their characters are spending ability points in, making a more diverse setup within warbands of who does what.

I can’t think of anything else at the moment but I feel this is a great start for what I’m suggest to improve World vs World.

Thanks for your time,
Meri Shadows

P.S. I’ll take my thank you gift in the form of a Hot Pink Moa Mount if you choose to use these ideas. Just re-work the art on the Flying Broom item as I’m not worried about it being polished animation, so long as I can ride it into battle.

Defensive Players

This is the biggest issue. Players don’t defend towers and keeps since they get bored and don’t get anything out of it. Yes, we can’t all be selfless and in the virtual world where you are unknown it’s easy to say “I’m not doing that, let someone else.” and just wander of to catch the zerg.

I believe a system needs to be added to recognize when a player has:

A) Been in a tower/keep for an extended period of time
B) Has been building multiple siege weapons
C) Has dealt large sums of damage to players who have attacked said tower/keep
D) Has been running supply to said tower/keep

A

Since the game already keeps track of you being inactive it should be relatively easy to configure a cloned version of that system to monitor gamers who are watching towers and keeps, thus rewarding them for their effort.

This would need some unique tweaking to ensure certain people don’t abuse it for easy xp.

B

A good way to spot check A’s system would be to add a variable that’s looking for active defense work. Dropping siege weapons all over a tower or keep is a great way to say “OK, this player is doing their part out there.”

C

First, I know that repelling enemy invaders already happens as an event. The problem is you’ll have zergs show up to these places you’ve fortified and they’ll just leave until they think defenders have moved on or gotten relaxed.

I believe a system should be piggy backed onto the current repel enemy attackers event to give bonus rewards based solely on the damage you do to the enemy force. We build arrow carts to push the enemy back and I believe the people sitting around waiting to use them should see a boost in their reward.

D

Another possible piggy back for the A system would be to recognize those of us who regularly run supplies from local camps to finish building. I’m well aware that players already get rewards for repairing and building siege but maybe a bonus for multiple trips would help boost enthusiasm for not raiding keep supplies.

World vs World - Changes for Unique Play

in Suggestions

Raine Akrune.8416

There are numerous things that can be done to World vs World to improve the quality of game play for everyone who regularly visits, zergs and small teams both. I’ll try to keep these ideas as organized as possible. Please keep any negative comments to yourselves as this post is meant for the people developing Guild Wars 2 to hopefully jump start some brainstorming.

Commander Tags

Players need to learn that the Commander tag isn’t solely for zerg/PuG leading. As such the squad system needs some improvements to make it a more viable tool for guild use.

A GUI, or “Raid UI”, would be the biggest help. Having to type in /squadinfo to see everything is a serious problem and it won’t show you who is alive, dead, or even within 150ft of you.

Having the ability to create group leaders within your squad would also help. They should have a blue four pointed star above their head visible to only the group they are in. Group leaders would be appointed by the Commander and would have the ability to view the supply count. (Edit: Group leaders should only see the supply count in their group, not the squad as a whole.)

Last on my list for this is to make every single squad member show up as a neon yellow dot on the minimap for other squad members. The color choice is to mimic squad chat so don’t cry. This way group members can still see their groups but don’t lose sight of the warband (squad).

Small Team Improvements

The biggest issue with small team play is coming across a vastly greater force, whether it be numbers or skill. Generally a team of 10 players coming across a zerg of 30+ stand little change of winning without some advantage. These advantages come in the form of terrain, buildings, and siege weapons. Unfortunately, sometimes you have none of these options or they are not enough to turn the tide.

Simply put, the smaller your group than the bigger the reward you should all receive. If you throw in the various ideas I’ll outline below than larger groups will still receive plenty of extra bonuses for their hard work out there. To encourage smaller groups and the use of a variety of tactics it is imperative to give players more encouragement.

Bunker Building

This is a blanket title for an array of portable fortifications. Why, when we have offensive siege, do we not have defensive? We already have traps which can be placed so this seems like the next logical step.

Spike Trap

This is a trap similar to the current two which gets placed in a rectangle and triggers when stepped on. I have no opinion on whether it should be visible or hidden until triggered.

There is no cap, like with AoEs, for how many enemies are effected and should cause cripple and bleeding.

Barricade/Wall

This is one of the fortifications I believe should have a rank up system. You can place/build better fortifications by ranking up, no superior system involving the forge.

This would allow groups in supply camps and open fields to create a real defensible position. Barricades can be jumped over if done right, though it should become harder, along with debuffs or even being impossible as the skill is ranked up. This fortification would be destructible.

Explosive Barricades

To counter the idea of rushing into barricades and using DPS to simply deal with it there should also be decoy barricades. These decoys could contain various things such as explosives or poison gas that gets triggered on enemy contact.

Deadfall Trap

This trap would be placed only on elevated positions, such as walls and cliffs, and could be either manually or automatically triggered and would work similar to oil. The benefit is being able to place it in a variety of spots, and there are many great places for it.

It would drop various sized rocks onto it’s intended targets as they pass under and should stun them or deal knock back.

Claymore Mines

The point is to add an explosive trap that can be controlled. The explosive would be a controlled blast that gets pointed in a specific direction and would cause bleeding and a knock back to any player hit. The explosive, when ranked up, could be invisible to enemies thus allowing for proper ambushing along roads and choke points.

Better WvW Incentives

First, don’t take the title the wrong way. I love World vs World and only want to see it evolve into an even better way of spending my time. I do have eyes though and I see many people complaining there is not enough out there yet.

I believe adding in some of the mentioned defense siege would help with this incentive but more should be done.

Greetings,

While we have no age requirement, the average member is in his or her twenties. We do not discriminate against race, class, or level. All are welcome to share our hearth.

If you enjoy daily trips into the dungeons across Tyria then look no further. Our members are constantly looking for others to join them on their next adventure. For all you Fractal fans have no fear, we run plenty of that as well. Whether your interests are dungeon runs, exploration, public events, farming, or just general PvE you’ll be among friends with us.

For some, PvE just doesn’t cut it when it comes down to epic battles of siege warfare and enemy players. Nothing makes me happier in this game then roaming the borderlands with the guild and bringing death to the enemy servers. If sPvP is more your thing then don’t worry, we have members looking for other players to form teams for tournaments. The guilds leadership is well versed in all aspects of PvP, predating the original Guild Wars game. If this is where your interests lie then pledge your service and be welcomed among us.

We have very few rules in the guild aside from what common sense should warn you against doing. We do not require that you represent the guild unless your taking part in guild activities. Likewise, promotional consideration will go to the active members that regularly represent us and show a genuine interest in the guild. If you join and never talk or participate then don’t wonder why you’ve never made it past Gladium.
We still have plenty of room for players to grow within our ranks and your participation is always noticed.

We use Ventrilo for all guild events and it is asked that you use it to at least hear given directions, talking is optional. Having the ability to talk rather than type cuts down on miscommunication and can be a life saver in PvP.

Wow…So our key match up trolls leave the server and we still can’t get rid of them. Just when I thought I could start reading these threads without Advil…

The large guild zergs, as mentioned earlier, overshadow the work of the small teams. I have been in every borderland and I’ve seen every guild that regularly steps off to fight. Everyone has screwed up at some point, it’s the human element. DDLG, best of luck. I’ve met a couple of you who I’ve enjoyed playing with, and the same goes for the other guilds.

Tactics differ from guild to guild and that’s all there is to it. I’ve been leading larger warbands then I’d like the last couple of nights simply because PUGs don’t get tactics, the only know kill. We need to focus on teaching people how to be patient and guard keeps as they’ve grown accustomed to BL hopping with the large zergs. Let’s focus less on this forum bs drama and get to fixing the server.

I hope the future Eredon Terrace, Anvil Rock, Ferguson’s Crossing, and Devona’s Reach matchups will prove to be pretty fun and competitive due to our lower (and hopefully comparable) numbers.

Good luck ya’ll!

Anyone who has been on DR long enough remembers the last time this happened, just that the guilds leaving didn’t raise us up to the top tiers before leaving. No offense to the guilds/people leaving but please just go and stop posting in the match ups as this isn’t your server anymore.

If you’re still on DR and would like to learn the tactics and strategies to keep your small teams/warbands alive then feel free to join our guild for our weekly workshops which we’ve always offered to those interested. www.theburningeden.com

[TBE] The Burning Eden is looking for players on, or willing to relocate to, the Devona’s Rest server. We are an actively casual PvX guild that participates daily in all aspects of Guild Wars 2.

In closing, if you have any questions, comments, or would like to join us then please feel free to contact us in game or on our website: www.theburningeden.com

WvW Lag

Yea, it’s a very interesting issue. The last couple of months I’ve noticed an increase in my GPU usage which would mean the game is requiring more resources all of a sudden. Now if I’m in an area like LA that could make sense since they have done back to back festivals and what not. When I’m seeing higher temps and usage in areas like Bloodtide Coast compared to LA though? What is up with that?

The game needs some rework to optimize it again like it used to be. I shouldn’t be seeing these spikes in places that have been relatively unchanged since launch.

Why do commanders ask us to stack...

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

Sadly yes its zerg vs zerg vs zerg, I would love to see 30 teams of 10 people running around doing different stuff and roaming. But the mechanics and mainly the general populace are stuck in a zerg mode of 1 team of 300. :/

You should come see our warband when our guild is out in force. While we will move and attack as one large group, each individual 5 man group is operating independently. So when we come across other people, especially larger forces, you’ll see some pretty coordination. The best part is the zergs don’t know how to react except to barrel on in head first.

Also while I’m sure it’s been said the number one reason to constantly stack is to keep everyone together. You can drop mesmer speed strips or guardian circles and everyone gets to zip off together. The next best reason is to conceal your actual numbers.

Why do I say this?

Compare it to League of Legends.

Compare it to StarCraft and StarCraft 2.

Compare it to CounterStrike.

Compare it to Street Fighter.

What’s the difference?

None of them are MMOs…compare complete.

The custom arenas look awesome except for the one nagging fact, you can’t change anything without the owner being online.

Please create a mod/whitelist of some sort to give a few regulars the ability to change some or all options.

WvW ranks take too much time

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

I agree that WvW ranks should be account bound. I would also argue that since the commander sigil is still way over priced for its uses that it should be account bound as well. I’ve been leveling up a guardian which I’m really enjoying with a support build and would love to bring her to World vs World when I’m defending a tower BUT not for when I’m leading a warband. I don’t think I should have to shell out another 100g just for that.

Why I don't play WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

While I like the idea on not having visible name tags, I do not see it as an option with the way the game currently works. The big issue is that you would not see all of a zerg, not because they are hiding but because they have not rendered yet, and this is more unacceptable than having to put up with red name tags. And I’m sorry, but ‘get a better computer’ is just an ignorant response. Not everyone can afford a better system and as a respectable company Anet tries its best to ensure as many people can play their game as possible (it also increases their profits, so it’s a win win).

I would much rather they kept things as they are than go back to the dark age of culling again. However, if they managed to find a way to render all models without it effecting framerates and ping more than it does at the moment then I would welcome the removal of enemy name tags. I just do not see it happening.

To be honest, I am quite happy with the way it is. As a thief (a profession built for going unseen) I find it easy to scout areas without being noticed. And if we are talking realism here, how on earth do people all bunch up on top of each other in real life? It just doesn’t happen. And in real life you would spot a small army of 30+ from quite a distance. Besides, there IS cover zergs can use, such as the corner of towers and such, it is only out in the open that the name tags give away your position, and seeing as you are not their in the flesh and you don’t (in real life) have to wait for your eyes to render the enemy I think this is the best solution to the current problem.

So my advise would be to just learn to live with it or move on to a game you can live with, because I really don’t see this changing.

That’s the beauty of ANet, they care about all their fans. They don’t just cater to the hardcore gamers with hardcore rigs.

Why I don't play WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

This is Unacceptable!

Ok, so say ANet goes through with your idea. Everyone just starts holding down CTRL, loop hole found.

I wouldn’t mind seeing name plates removed as my guild uses strategy over numbers so we hide and strike when least expected. We do quite well with the current system though so I can’t say I’d encourage your changes to the system.

I wouldn’t mind some collision detection like in WAR though, shield walls for the win.

Why I don't play WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

I will not play WvW until these things are implemented.

*EVERY player should not see enemy name tags unless mouseover.
*No enemy commander icons on screen unless moused over.
*option to show allies name tags as just a dot.

Turning tags off in options is NOT a option. It would put some players at a disadvantage.

While I like this idea in theory, Asura would be at an advantage for hiding on castle walls or behind bushes, while Norns would be impossible to hide all but the largest of objects.

Realistic, but without any commensurate tradeoffs. It’s not like Norns can sacrifice secrecy for strength.

So Asura should be able to. With my idea Anet could also add a cover/crouch system.

Crouch/cover would be sweet.

Anet should know Elder Scrolls Online will have this.

Please don’t compare this game with COD, ESO, and anything else you may have mentioned after this post. This is Guild Wars 2, let’s keep it that way.

Future of WvW - This mean private squads?

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

Right now, once I join someone’s squad (or they join mine), we cannot see another commander pin. It makes it a little difficult sometimes to follow map chat or VOIP when noting activity elsewhere on the map. For coordination, it helps to know where OTHER commanders are too.

As a commander you should be able to see other commanders on the same map as you, I know I can. I would disagree if your suggesting everyone in a squad should be able to see other commanders as this can confuse people/new comers. It makes a lot of sense that once you join a commander squad that you can no longer see the other various commanders on the map as you should NOT be following them.

Future of WvW - This mean private squads?

in WvW

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

It’s rather simple to give the commanders what they want.

Things ANet got right:

Hiding other commander sigils on your minimap when in a squad
Allowing commanders to see the supply in their squad
Squad chat

Things ANet needs to add:

The ability to remove people from groups out there (Why is this still not fixed!?)
The ability to invite people who arn’t within 50 feet of you (Why is this still not fixed!?)
Squad Assistants to help invite people with their own sigils (Only visible if your in the squad)
Adding a raid style UI to show everyone in the squad (Commander and Assistants only? Members would still see just their group)
Making every squad member a specific icon on the minimap with different colors per group (Or some variant of this. If your in a squad you should not be a generic green dot.)
Fix group blue dot transparency so it doesn’t look like a green dot with a light blue aura.

There are plenty of things to add but those are some basic issues I see with the commander/squad/group system out in World vs World.

To answer the question above, ANet just wants WvW to be a focus of strategy and planning. I’m sure they don’t enjoy watching giant mindless zergs just doing laps around an area like locusts to a crop. So their going to encourage better play by adding more incentives.

Devona's Rest and World vs World

in Looking for...

Posted by: Raine Akrune.8416

Raine Akrune.8416

Are you a lost player looking for a new home? Perhaps a guild that’s tired of your current server community? Everyone gets burnt out, sooner or later, and they need a change of people and/or scenery.

Devona’s Rest isn’t known for being a top tier, in fact at one point our standing and community were ruined due to the migrations of large, zerg style, guilds who just wanted to face roll under dogs. It has taken a lot of time and dedication for the guilds still residing there to work with the community to bring us back from that awful mess, but we have succeeded with flying colors.

Our server is now home to many casual and hardcore guilds that take active parts in World vs World and are always in need of more enthusiastic players. Many a guild tag is seen in the various borderlands on a regular basis, with groups ranging from 5 players to 50.

We’re home to both zerg style guilds/commanders and smaller tactical teams. Regardless of your play style and want for a certain style of tactics, you’ll find a guild here to fit your needs. Are you new to World vs World? There are friendly guilds and commanders here that will teach you anything you want to learn or understand better.

So before this turns into a long winded post, if your interested in a new home or just need a break from higher tier combat then Devona’s Rest may just be the place for you. I would highly suggest finding a guild first to ensure you have friends to back you up out there as, lets face it, the transfer costs are not friendly but we know why.

The best of luck on your deployments to the front, happy hunting!
