Pretty much. It’s good that you, like everyone else, have your eye on something but that’s the way games work, especially MMOs. You don’t just get handed things when you get chests or boxes or w/e. It’s a random chance at getting better, worse, or exactly what you want and it’s part of the game.

I may as well sit here and complain about how I don’t get 3 ecto’s every time I salvage a rare. Damn them for making this game interesting and challenging.

This is the best solution. Take a tally of active, logged in once a week at least, accounts per server and figure out which are the lowest populations and merge them into the larger, more active servers.

OR

You could turn it into a WvW contest where the best server of each bracket absorbs the two weaker ones or something. Not including the top 3 as they are clearly active.

Massively Multiplayer just means there are a lot of players in the game, it doesn’t mean the game cannot cater for solo play. If GW2 did not cater for solo play, things would be very different. The personal story probably wouldn’t exist for one thing.

Also, If I wanted to play Skyrim, I’d play it. But I don’t, because GW2 is a better and more entertaining game, so I play that. Just because it is an MMO does not mean I cannot play it solo. It just means I have the option to join others if I feel like it.

I am in a small guild and if we want to run a dungeon we can usually get together for it. So I have no problems with the 5 man dungeon set up. But I still feel that having a solo or scalable dungeon option would be a big plus. If you don’t want to run solo dungeons no one is forcing you. But at least allow others to express their desire for one, it won’t hurt you or the game (providing it is done right or course).

It totally hurts the game as it encourages people to not socialize. The multiplayer in the genre title not only means your in a world with other people but that you’ll be interacting with them. Otherwise GW1 could be considered a multiplayer game which in all honesty it wasn’t.

Dungeons/Raids have always been and hopefully will always be a team effort. If they make solo dungeons I hope it’s a simple 10 minute run the yields nothing special so it will only further encourage players to work together. If you have an active guild, no matter the size, it shouldn’t be an issue running through dungeons as a group rather than solo.

FYI: Your solo portion of the game is general PvE, general PvP, and your personal story. People at the same point in the story can join but you can solo to get it done with faster, and I fully believe we’d still have that story regardless of solo or not.

Generally, you’ll want:

1. Full Zerk for critical-based builds (whether spike or pressure).
2. Full Carrion for condition-based builds.
3. A damn good reason to justify equipping anything else.

Damn good reason = Anyone not interested in a glass cannon build

I’m going Zerk/Valk/Knight – 2 of each piece with my chest and legs being given to valk/knight combo. Throw Sup Eagle on all armor for added prec/crit and then just play with your trinkets to even out any stats that may need a little bump. Weapons are entirely up to you but if your a damage build then quickness on your main hand weapon is your best friend.

Which legendary do you think is worth pursuing more? I really cannot decide. There are both pros and cons to both. I believe the bolt looks rather nicer, however, it would mean i would only be using it in PvE/ Dungeons. Whereas the incinerator looks nice, but i’m concerned about the size of it and the visibility to other players. I also believe the dagger lacks effects when compared to the sword. However, The Incinerator i can use for nearly all aspects of the game, WvW/PvE/Dungeons.

Stuck. I really want to start making gifts so if you guys could perhaps give me your opinions and experience with the legendaries it would be great!

P.S does anyone know if incinerator shows any animations on death blossom?

I run S/P in WvW as well as general PvE and Dungeons. I’m usually out there with my guild so, while I’m confident in my abilities with that setup, maybe you wouldn’t like it for solo play. The AoE sword attacks when fighting multiple opponents is going to put out more damage then you could achieve with D/D on a solo target. Nothing like watching a crowd back off when they realize a thief is hitting them all for 3-5k a strike. That damage is without full exotic, trinkets, or legendaries. So much to look forward to! =)

I’m kind of up in the air as to whether I should be suggesting this stat mix or if it would be a waste. Currently if you need crit chance/power and some survivability, your option is Power/Precision/Toughness. I know Toughness increases your sustain and healing, however being geared in such a set leaves you at 10k-14k health which just means if you miss a dodge, or run out of endurance, many things in dungeons will outright one shot you or kill you before you have a chance to heal.

Power/Vitality/Toughness is a no go unless you’re dagger/dagger as only dagger/dagger can really make the best use of the 100% crit chance from stealth trait. Every other weapon combo can’t stealth often enough, or doesn’t have a big hit out of stealth to capitalize off the one time you can crit a significant amount of the time.

Wearing full knights/emerald gear takes you from 1980 armor to 2706, an increase of 27% damage reduction. Basically in a scenario of a missed dodge or you run out of endurance and can’t dodge, and get smacked by a hit that would normally do 20,000 damage on base armor… with Knight’s/Emerald gear it’d do 14,634 damage, and with a thief’s base health pool + 20 points in acrobatics + 1650 hp from runes, for a whopping 14, 455 hp, you still get one shot.

If instead of 726 extra toughness you had 726 extra vitality, you’d have 21,715 health, and you’d survive that 20k hit with base armor.

There’s a point when toughness overtakes vitality for even mitigating burst damage, when it comes to effective HP, but it’s certainly not at 10-14K.

So am I crazy or is this a set that we could find use for if you’re a pistol, sword, or shortbow oriented direct damage thief?

I havn’t got my armor set in stone but I’m currently going for a berserk/knight/valk mix up, probably 2 of each. I’m gonna shore up any missing stats I need via trinkets and jewels. I’m using the Eagle rune on all my armor to add more crit/prec.

Can we have a solo versions of all the standard dungeons? It is pitiful to sit for hours asking for a party just to have impatient people ruin it every 5 mins by leaving. I dont care if the rewards are like halved or something i just want to beable to go run a dungeon and get SOMETHING out of my hours of sitting and asking people who wont wait for a party to form.

That’s the point of the LFG website and joining a guild. This game is an MMORPG, with multiplayer right in the genre title. This game is designed to have social aspects with one of those being dungeon runs. If you want a solo game go play Skyrim.

When did they say this? I’ve been playing this game for more than a month and I always thought the races to be strongly tied or influenced by pop culture races (real and mythical)/demographics, or certain time periods in human history similar to how races are in WoW.

Norn = Vikings/Norsemen
Humans = Medieval Europe
Sylvari = Elves/celtic lore
Asura = ?
Charr = Chinese? (basing on how your home instance is called a “Canton” plus the Charr’s industrialization)

Hylek = Aztecs (due to worship of the sun, names of Hylek characters, etc)
Tengu = Native Americans (due to how their regions are named, etc)
Grawl = Native Americas as well? (due to shamanism, etc)
Skritt = Ghettos
Ogre = ?
Quaggans = Mentally Challenged

Charr are more native then Chinese. They’re warrior culture plus the dance screams native islanders, anything north of Aussie land yet south of Asia’s main body. Plus they used to worship fire/lava, sound Hawaiian to anyone else?

If anything I see the Asuran as being a distinct Asian culture. They work in krewes to get a single task completed and then split up. They value intelligence over everything, including social interaction. They see themselves above others, such that no race is better then them. Their also the most technologically evolved race.

The first time I heard one exclaim “For the Moletariat!” I almost spewed beer all over my monitor. Come on, having a race parody communist Russia is way cooler than naming quests after Bob Dylan songs, and I really like Bob Dylan.

They do a better job then Blizzard in this department at least. I still remember coming across Haris Pillton or w/e they named that blood elf. I personally love this kind of thing when added tastefully to a game, in regards to the Dredge I’d say very well done.

It’s one of the minimal ways ANet further funds the game and it’s development. You can get them from BL Chests as well I believe.

I think it was their attempt at bridging the gap between guilds and alliances while maintaining their whole super server options.

All in all it was a nice experiment but I agree it does nothing but hurt guilds. Once my guild reaches 100 members I’m going to begin requiring more representation from members or just remove them. The majority of players I meet are loyal to a single guild or only unrep when they are with a small guild, usually just friends, that has a single purpose. That I understand but I don’t understand why others need to be in 4-5 guilds and only rep 1 constantly.

Now, the argument could be made that there has to be a limit, and that’s understandable. But why change that limit from what we’ve been taught is the “right number” for seven years in Guild Wars?

The problem is in GW the limit changed routinely over the course of the original game and the following xpacs. There has to be a set limit, rather than increasing party size the farther you progress in the story.

Like I mentioned, there are 10 mans coming. So you’ll have to worry more about finding some PUGs, or suggesting heroes I guess, soon enough.

I’m not sure I follow this. Your complaining about a limit to party size which is in every game.

The average MMO usually limits a party to 5-6 players, this is nothing new. I can understand coming from GW it’s a tad annoying since we went from parties of 6 all the way to 10 or something like that. ANet wanted to make a fullfledged MMO and that’s the way it goes.

Have no fear! Your party of 7 will be needing 3 more members soon so you can try the new 10-man dungeons that will be gracing us with their presence soon enough.

Try WvW yet? You can split into two groups, 3 and 4, and run around together or as someone else suggested you could go for a commander title. Personally, I would say save the gold for your legendary weapons as my guild routinely proves the commander title pointless. It’s not hard to coordinate a few groups of 5 without some shiny arrow on your head that says “Hey, I spent 100g on this thing!”

My guild did a run through the other day and it took us a few minutes but it was discovered that we had missed a single tree hiding out behind some scenery. It’s not bugged, you just have to look in every crevice and corner.

Yes, I did make a bug report so don’t bother mentioning it.

I’m sure this has been mentioned BUT the present boxes in Ascalon are spawning level 31 ventari in a starter zone. Needless to say my guild was shocked to stumble upon that little surprise as we headed to AC.

I bought roughly 40 boxes just because I wanted the quaggan. I received around 9 minis which you can toss 3 in the forge with some wadding and receive the rarer ones. Myself and another guildy got our quaggans on the first attempt.

My server bracket changed and we’ve been kicking kittens. If your still facing the same servers then your server needs to step up and get in gear.

The reason they took out secondary professions (as well as reduced the number of skills) because of balance. Considering they had to do the balancing, I’m pretty sure that they’re the ones who know how hard it was.

Boosting professions with other professions skills isn’t the answer to balancing the classes and skills.

I’d be more in favour of being able to choose weapon skills from a pool, rather than adding a secondary profession.

Agreed. I’d like one or two extra skills per weapon skill to choose from. This would be enough to change up builds and create a lovely variety of class play.

I make 3-4g in a couple of days, compared to the couple dozen silver I may use in the same amount of time. Not overly concerned about WP cost BUT it would be an interesting thing to add to guild upgrades. Limit it to one or two uses per 24 hours and make it kind of like a mesmer portal perhaps.

The entire world scales depending on where you are. The experience is not about leveling or gaining exp points. It’s about exploring the world and getting involved in the events and tasks each zone has to offer. The exp boosters are a part of the gem store which is where ANet makes their money to help further finance this game and its content.

This is not World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Rift, or Star Wars. Experience points and your level don’t mean much in this game and don’t mean anything in certain places liked Fractals. Sure your hindered by lacking some utility skills or gear but that’s the point to the world scaling. It’s a handicap that allows you to take part in portions of the game that you’d be limited from in others of the genre.

FYI: Once you hit 80 you keep leveling to gain skill points used in purchasing the last few missing skills you have along with ingredients for the mystic forge. So don’t toss those boosters, there quite helpful.

Massively Multiplayer Online Game

If you want solo go play Skyrim =)

I’ve built for shortbow and I constantly use it when running dungeons. It is perfectly viable but your melee weapons will always be better. It’s all about the situation your in that makes a weapon viable, and the easy ability to kite with shortbow is by no means lacking.

There is nothing wrong with a signet thief but I can see the issue your guild may have had with him. Signets only help the thief and given some of the wonderful support skills we have I can imagine how heated the discussion may have gotten if the thief refused to give up his DPS build.
