Looks like 3 things will interrupt the /stuck action. Moving, using a skill or getting into combat. Getting stuck in a wall close to point, it’s going to be difficult to avoid getting put into combat.

Then it’s best to make an exception to the combat rule in PvP. By the knowledge of the /stuck mechanic, all I need to ruin the opposing AT team’s chances is to attempt a pull or push in these spots, hit the person occasionally with an AoE to stop himself from getting unstuck, essentially getting a free win – even in the clutchest of matches.

/stuck could be reworked into something that trumps relogging by bypassing the startup-loading-respawn time. Maybe just instantly kill that person and place him in respawn for 25-30 seconds?

I think it’s not a tall tale to say that with practice, you can intentionally and successfully get people stuck to raise your chances. You don’t need “honor” to win.

I am filled with dread just imagining this in the monthly finals while it is on stream. It will be so painful, devs included, to watch this unfold.

This is just personal opinion, but if I have a specific class I’m learning to pilot, and would like to see skilled players show patterns and tricks I can pick up on, I go to that particular subforum.

The fact is, the profession forums are for discussion, and this sub-forum is for sharing player creations. That is why the videos are moved here.

I think videos can create very helpful discussion and the two elements are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

If what OP suggests invalidates the efforts of the moderators, sure that’s a sad thing, but you have to ask if the effort was made for the right choice in the first place.

I check into the forums every few days, and I go straight to the class forums to find videos and guides. Like Helly says here, having videos of a specific class in the right subforum will draw players playing the same class to the discussion – and it is from these suggestions that I find the best tips to improve my own gameplay.

The PvP section is mainly for drinking in the salt and delighting in the misery of others, but rarely – very rarely, there are nice sPvP footages. And sometimes, a high tier player will pop in (in the class or PvP subforums) and critique videos – and we are all the better for it.

I do not find it a thrilling prospect to sift through an overturned shopping cart in here to find a thread with a video, then check if it’s combat related, and if it’s a class I specifically want. After 5 years in this game, I finally stumbled onto this subforum, which says something about how indicative of its purpose (or not) it actually is.

This was just after the nerf to Signet regen in the 15 Apr 2014 patch. A Power Necro came onto the point, slapped the banner warrior with 2 wells and auto’d him with dagger for around 5 seconds. The Warrior’s health never fell below 90%.

“Nerfed signet, they said,” the Necro sheathed his weapons, and we jumped around the point.

Yeah, the “bunkers” in the current iteration have nothing on bunkers of the old metas. You only started to worry about CDs and dodging when 3 people are focusing you on Banner Bunker.

If I can’t “carry” people in a tier I don’t “belong” in… I am exactly where my skill takes me. Not bad luck, not the system, not other players.

One of the things that start a player on the path to improvement is the realization that you’re not as good as you think you are. Inflated pride and entitlement will get in the way of that.

Solid play. I don’t have much experience in WvW so there’s a lot to pick up for me in these videos.

(Not talking about Necro’s downsides here.)

Ele support is just soooo good for Necro (in sPvP, it is one of the premiere 2v2 matchups). It also allows the Necro to save Shroud and CDs for more offense. You could’ve duo’d with anything else + Ele, and wouldn’t get as many kills, or as much control through pressure, as the Necro in these situations, I think.

(So many people just eat your Death’s Charge like candy… why guys? Do you like pain?)

Necro doesn’t just perform well at teamfights. It’s called the snowball class for a reason – it destroys teamfights completely, from boons, support to downed state. That is why it has to die first. Even if we take a stack off of Deathly Chill, it’s not going to make Necro any less of a reason to not be the focus of choice (unless they are running some really weird skritt).

With Ele, you solve Necro’s problem of relying on attrition. Less time kiting and dying = more anti-sustain output = lots of forced CDs and dead things. In my opinion, any second earned by a Necro not under pressure is more valuable than any other class. Because obviously we have the best, coolest looking defensive utilities.

PS: that underwater combat… you are now a fishdogbullcat in its final form.

Well my poor wee DH is getting stomped by Fire Eles doing 30k damage (100% crits) plus 50% heal inside 5 seconds. Seen this over a dozen times, huge burn, huge crits and a tidy heal. Only draw back seems to be a 4 secs cast time, negated by tag teaming with invis profession. Max target 3. Overload Fire can do 10 times it’s base damage, 2 to 3K per person hits 10 times (for one button press) – to 3 people max inside 5 secs -with 7K follow up. (two buttons)

What’s stopping you from using Deflecting Shot, Spear Pull, or your Shield 5 if you see the cast? You can similarly force them off point with your traps.

You should try to scroll out and see more of the map so they don’t try these advanced tactics.

Don’t stand in the AoE, and don’t try to rez if you can’t interrupt.

I think Water and Air Overloads are more valuable targets for interrupt though.

I use Celestial gear. I think going full Condition would be bad in a lot of situations where players could spam remove Conditions, and if you run into the same person removing Conditions again, or multiple times, then it’s like might as well leave that map for a while.

The thing I like about Scepter most is the Boon Corrupt and Torment, after using it a bit when roaming last night.

I find the second skill sorta clunky though.

Necro does have the best condi application though, and if you last long enough to burn through all their condi clear and get them with a whirl, they are very dead. The point of Celestial is that it can be strong with a might-stacking build, but you don’t have to go full cele; you can mix in some Trailblazers/Dire/Rabid as well.

Scepter 2 can be cast behind you like Staff and the bleeds are fairly long so if you’ve got nothing else to do while kiting, this is the thing to use.

Scepter 3’s torment can cover for your bleeds and weakness (which are the most important conditions for you) and you can combine with Corrupt Boon, Plague Signet to just smother them in non-essential condis.

was fighting a ele the other day, he literally doesn’t drop below 100% health. I’m using condis as a necro. I can get in a lucky melee hit and he takes some dmg, and apply about 5 condis, but then he cleanses them all before they tick once, and he’s back at 100% health. But. He can still stunlock me and press 2 buttons to deal 20k dmg. This is absolutely horrible balancing. What the kitten is anet thinking?? NO class should be immune to an entire damage type. I don’t care that he has to use all his sigil slots and and about 2 traits to do that, it’s just not fair to not be able to deal ANY DAMAGE AT ALL while he can still kill me in three seconds.
I’m quitting this game until this bullkitten is fixed. Being immune to half the world’s damage and still being able to kill everyone who plays the game is just dumb.

You have to deal with Diamond Skin first. It will be a bit more difficult for condi Necro to get past the first 25% health though. The lazy way is to put down Plaguelands/Corrosive Poison Cloud (ez cover condi for the 1s CD of Diamond Skin), scepter spam to #3 chain then Corrupt Boon + Shroud 2. Carrion ammy, Intelligence sigil + Staff marks can also take away some of the health, just watch the protection. You shouldn’t be 1v1ing anyway.

Daze or Fear his Water/Air overloads, corrupt his Earth overload. Just kite and spam your Scepter if he’s trying to do Fire.

You don’t even need to be able to 1v1 the Ele, all you need to do is to force his overloads and interrupt them, force his Magnetic Aura and Obsidian Flesh in a teamfight earlier than he’s comfortable with. Suddenly he’s very focus-able, and he’s going to go down.

Read my initial post -_-

I did, and I read a dissertation laying out three options for fixing Glicko rating systems, specifically for team games of few players (5v5), stating them in a post above.

The gist is that the personal vs enemy team method right now is actually the best method to give players an equal experience, with team vs team being inaccurate, and individual vs all individuals on enemy team being improbable.

Given that there’s so much dissatisfaction going around though, would team vs team solve the problem or would it mess up everything but unfair matchups?

GW2’s control scheme would not work with consoles. Too many buttons.

Final Fantasy 14 for consoles actually uses the controller with the shoulder buttons as action bar swaps. It works fairly well because FF14 is much more static, despite having quite a few rotational damage skills and defensive CDs.

GW2 has a lot more twitch, and some skill shots, so a controller would be a bit unwieldy. I don’t think the number of skills is the issue, but rather the need to hit a few simultaneously.

I find it hilarious.

Absolutely no understanding how there are so many players having their feelings hurt by it. Weird.

You don’t seem to understand, I’m living vicariously through my character here. Every time I lose on my character I feel the urge to buy an Identity Repair Kit because people will remember my name & face and shame me at every corner.


The reality though, is that no one really cares, not even the people who insult you, because after 2 minutes they will be pondering where to spend that Transmutation Charge, over thinking about how you under-performed.

Have some mental toughness guys. It’s how you can deal with this change (if you don’t find it funny).

The system itself is fine, but as i said, the game is not capable of providing fair matches atm. The rank gain/loss system does not take in calculation that you might be handicapped in the match by having teammates divisions below your enemies but you get punished by the system fully because it sees it as fair match of equally ranked players.

So what they should do is include a variable in the system that takes into account player tier difference (or maybe another one for rank volatility) that would in theory reduce the loss in rating?

Then the only solution is to try and outrotate them until you don’t have an Ele to worry about.

If you can make it so that the Ele isn’t in a teamfight, isn’t being outnumbered, or isn’t on a point he owns, you’re at least preventing the Ele from being 100% useful (although depending on your class you’re not being contributive either). In that case the match will still be out of your hands.

Or bring a Necro.

I’m sure we’ll have some issue with the burst meta again when it comes about. The glassier the meta becomes the skill level required to survive Thief increases and we’ll get “I just got 1-shot screw game” type of threads again.

Had a game with mirror Rev, Engi, Ele, DH, Druid and we had to break off after 2 minutes of doing jack to each other and we won only because of outrotation (and the enemy Ele positioning badly).

I was actually fairly nervous before the game started because if enemy DH had the presence of mind to go Necro the outcome could be very different in those 2 minutes.

The new dailies are way better if you are a pvper.

This is the key point here. The people complaining are PvE players that used the custom daily rooms. Usually my dailies are done in a single match, two if I lost the first. Love the change, should have been done forever ago.

Absolutely. What should have been done for players focused on PvE, is to adjust their dailies so they won’t consider it a necessity to use the PvP rooms just to save time.

I definitely know the feeling when you’re so busy some days even logging on to… log elder wood can be a strained venture.

Edit:

WvW is also a very convenient place to do your dailies, just go find some guards to kill and boom, daily done.

Also there are many articles about glicko and matchmaking that can be found with google searches. So there is no excuse for players to keep spouting these fearmongering wives tales.

I guess the problems with matching players against equal skilled opponents are a separate issue, and related to consumer satisfaction.


There’s a Master’s Dissertation on “Abstracting Glicko-2 for Team Games” which points out the flaws of a Glicko2 system in handling online “team” games played by randomly thrown together players.

He proposes three methods to measure ratings after a game:

1. the naive approach, where an individual player is considered to win against each member of the opposing team individually (which causes large fluctuations of rating despite setting a small volatility constant).

2. average rating of team vs average rating of opposing team (to mitigate “boosting”) – but this was the most inaccurate with the lowest correlation between win rate and higher ranking.

3. individual rating vs average of opposing team – which the author points out as the most accurate.

So team mmr vs team mmr will actually make the rating more inaccurate, at least with what he is claiming.

You left out Mender Druid with Celestial Shadow + “Search and rescue!” Allies Aid trait. It’s the discount Engi contender (even has an AoE daze to mirror).

Reaper can cleave downed enemies very well, and provided you have the CDs you can out-cleave a 2-person rez and allow a teammate to secure a stomp. If they play badly you will end up with all of them dead because standing in Reaper cleave is one of the must-nots.

Some have pointed out the disproportionate gain/loss is fundamentally because we lack the population to properly stratify players into distinct leagues.

In order to not inflate the population above a certain rating, they have adjusted the ratio of gain to loss to be so harsh to maintain the percentage of players they want in each league.

The resulting see-saw of ratings, matched with people way out of your tier, one-sided stomps… it’s because there’s probably like only 500 “srs” people playing for a leaderboard of 250.

A friend of mine has gone from 250+ in core and first few seasons, to 200+ and now 110+ on the NA LB, but he tells me it’s not because he’s got significantly better (he’s always been pretty good), but because a lot of people have evaporated off the top.

Silv’s opinions seem fair to me. You’ll be relying on corrupts to bring out your high condi damage.

This build reminds me of Barbarian Curses Shouts. It can be ok on side nodes with a 32k+ health pool, but lack killing burst.

There are better roamer specs than LB/GS Zerker Rangers using HoT elites, but it’s up to you what’s comfortable.

Menders Druid is more a 2v2 skirmish damage support, with Staff/LB able to decap, and Staff/S+D holding points better.

I didn’t even know it mattered at all… Is Flavour of the Day even a thing? Is that why I see weird classes getting stacked some days?

All I did for the daily was to squeeze out a win on the class I want, then go find a vista or something to get my 2 gold.

(As you can see, Gold tier players lack the ability to read things)

I’m not that great at Necro myself, but it indeed is a macro over micro class in survival, meaning that in most cases, calculated positioning will grant you the best protection.

That’s not saying Necro doesn’t take technical skill – in fact, by watching better players dueling equally skilled opponents, Necros are likely the most unforgiving, with a depleting resource, to win with.

I wonder if Hobo knows about jumping puzzle spots, which prevents teleport skills like Steal from working? I’m not saying to rely on them, but it does help me wait for peels from porting classes sometimes.

Yep, I have no inkling of how guild upgrades work – had a 2-3 year hiatus and my guild, which had a large amount of high achievers that did sPvP and roamed in WvW a lot (and now are obsessed with fractals), had the guild at level 40+ (I contributed nothing, feels bad).

I joined some other guilds for different activities, and they had to put in what I see as a lot of effort to upgrade with a guild at rank 10+.

While on one hand you can say that playing all aspects of the game is beneficial, forcing players to play a mode they don’t like should not happen. As you say, PvPing so you can upgrade a Waypoint aspect that works only in PvE is… questionable.

I just think implementing guild construction to have mandatory components from PvP is a mistake.

Let people play whatever mode they want, exclusively. Right now PvEers are doing another game mode they don’t like for the most efficient way/only way to get something they want. Sure, less people playing PvP – but you can’t really count the transient “just getting stuff” players as part of the player base anyway.

Rather, materials from PvP should be an alternate choice, with roughly the same time cost as fulfilling the PvE material requirements.

I really hope there are some “hardcore PvP’ers” in that group as I’ll be very helpful at losing said game.

I like the spite here.

I think Anet should redesign the dailies so we don’t antagonise each other like this though.

And regarding MMOs, players always go through designed content faster than they come out inevitably, and what’s left is of course various grinds. When you go numb from trying to achieve a goal of course some will start being bitter and seem entitled.

GW2 lacks the mechanics to make a niche PvP game with a small community, anyway, so being partisan about PvP won’t get us anywhere.

It is not the BM that angers me.. That was always around and in many other games aswell. But a company/dev that develops a platform from which people are ‘encouraged’ to BM is just a bad idea..

I was thinking though, dancing on a pedestal is a lot less interactive than say, teabagging downed bodies, jumping on them, hitting them with launches etc. which I believe mines a lot more salt. The whisper hatred prose will always be around and I’ve been equally amused and triggered by them.

So there’s actually less potential to be personal with insults and if you lose you take it as a team.

I’m just thinking positively about this. I don’t think losing with this added feature feels any worse.

As to people wondering what’s the point of this new feature… they must have a PLAN we don’t know about.

I love the idea of putting the victors on a pillar and having them ‘celebrate’ but having the losing team lying there dead.. It sickens me..
The 5games I played yesterday were the most Toxic ever.. never have I seen more KITTEN BM like; GitGud, EZ, Nubz,…

Design a better Victory screen where the victors can /dance /emote all they want. But don’t let them /say or /map chat and don’t have the losing team humiliated by having their character dead on the ground..

Really motivating to play a second match after Anet laughs at your loss..

2 sides to everything dude. So suddenly because this winning pedestal thing is official it means the world is laughing at you through the screen now?

Git gud, ez win, nubz seem pretty mild to me. What about all the personal attacks in whispers?

I think what needs adjustment isn’t the game but player mentality. There will be times when you get bitter losses, but this is PvP, we don’t get pampered. You extract joy from your success over your opponents, and they are human too. You can’t expect to lose and not get badmouthed… you have to deal with it yourself.

It’s not just GW2, any game with PvP, this is going to happen. Just hang back and enjoy the salt.

Edit:

If you’re getting completely messed up and your rage is going to send you to the hospital, just cool off and take a break. Burnout management is key.

Dagger update

While the dagger auto is very good n’ stabby, #2 has a cast time that you can’t really cover with CC, and #3 risks a 1-second cast time and long CD to cast 1 condition that can get removed easily…

Both skills need a rework. It needs a revamp like the Guardian’s Shield.

But don’t worry about it guys. Whatever we want for the Dagger, we’ll get it on the Torch.

New Ranger help

Playstyle:
Rangers have pets, which do decent damage on their own, and are the reason Ranger’s weapon skills have lower Power damage to compensate. Put emphasis on managing your pet to deal damage and tank for you.
Rangers with Beast Mastery have on-demand access to their signature boon, Quickness. It allows your pet and you to put out a burst of damage, or use your heal skill faster. You can extend the Quickness on pet swap if you cast “We Heal as One!” and swap before the heal ends.
Use “Protect me!” when you are controlled, it is a short stun-break with protection, and a powerful taunt (at least for Veteran enemies).

Leveling:
Regardless if you’re going to use a 80-boost.
Pick Beast Mastery, max it out, then Nature Magic, and any other tree that has traits you like (Wilderness Survival has condition transfer to pet).
Finally, work on getting HoT hero points for Druid, and get a staff.
Some tanky pets for soloing are the River Drake, and the Brown Bear.

Weapons:
Longbow – your go-to skills will be 2, then shoot 1 on CD. 5 for AoE.
Staff – 2, then 1 on CD. Other skills are defensive.
Sword – good auto attack, rest are evades. Don’t mind the leap at first.
Dagger – 5 on CD, and 4 is an evade.
Warhorn – some nice offensive boons and can be traited for regen. 4 calls in birds!
GS – a fairly defensive weapon but has the most AoE cleave if you are fighting a group – but remember to back off a bit if it gets intense. Turn away, use your block and dash.

While there are other weapons, like the Short Bow and the Axe, they are more of a condi weapon and I would stay away from them the first time I play.

Armor:
Cleric Armor with Pack Runes
Assassin Longbow + Staff (I also recommend Sword/Dagger/Warhorn)
Magi backpack with Cleric jewel
Celestial for: 1 ring, 2 earrings, amulet
Cleric ring

If you can’t get celestial:
Soldier stat earrings
Knight amulet + zerker rings

You want roughly 30% crit rate
1400+ toughness
Some vitality
~600 healing power
1900+ power

Traits:
Nature Magic 3 2 2
Beast Mastery 3 3 2
Druid 1 3 1

Switch NM to 3 3 2 if she likes Warhorn.
Switch Druid to 1 1 3 in WvW for the survivability and control.

Take any pet she likes but the Tiger/Bristleback/Smokescale have the most powerful actives, though that is not to say others are useless – tank pets like bears and drakes are great for solo play, for example.

Utilities & Elite:
For utilities we are trained into Shouts so “We heal as one!” and “Protect me!” are nice picks. You can then take Signet of Stone for the passive toughness and physical immunity in a pinch. The last slot can be Signet of the Hunt for early levels, Signet of Renewal for facing condition heavy foes, or Signet of the Wild for some passive health regen otherwise.

Elite is the shout “Strength of the Pack!” which allows you to stack might. Pop this and keep shooting, then share your pet’s boons with your heal skill to get 25 might for a significant damage bonus.

Remember to keep swapping pets for the quickness and the use of their pet skills. You can double up on the quickness with your healing ability.

Celestial Avatar will allow you to heal other players in open world content, and make sure you recover if you got hit by a powerful skill from a champion.


I would recommend a build loaded with survivability first, so that you get comfortable with the class and can rely less on toughness and vitality when you play. Or maybe play it safe the whole way and enjoy life in Tyria – there’s no rush.

Meta PvE builds are played a very specific way with rotations so it’s very much removed from the relaxed open world and can be trained up separately, when you guys feel ready for it.

PvP dailies were easier to get done than PvE ones because Anet wanted to bring people to it. But players are lazy/clever and will always find some way to not play and get stuff.

I can understand that some players are peace hippies and have no desire to PvP. Personally though, I tried it for 1-2 games back in core and couldn’t stand the monotony. I’m not great but I won’t lose all my games so the daily was fairly attractive to me (as would it to most players that like PvP).

In some ways I admire the doggedness.

1v1 servers and scrimmages.

Yeah, wide open maps with kiting spots, spectator mode to see the duellists at work.

Too bad about the daily though, was an easy way to get it done for those who have no interest in PvP.

It’s so silly you can’t help but smile.

On the bright side, you won’t get to jump on downed people and keep on killing/stomping or whatever, and I think the capability for salt has decreased.

Sure sometimes people will still squeeze out an insult or two, but all they can physically manage is stand still or pop a dance…

It’s been removed because it served only to mislead newer players in a mode like conquest.

Although more we have people who judge based on top stats, while that is also irrelevant for some roles, e.g. a good thief that just +1 for the spike, downs the target and leaves to let his team clean up, maneuvering for momentum the whole game. He won’t get much if any top stats, yet he was crucial to a victory.

Tick rate is interesting to know.

Maybe adjust knockbacks to have a slower travel time? Take away from the latter half of the animation?

I’ll bite.

You should be checking your positioning – a Necro shouldn’t be caught out near far point with no support nearby. If anything, you’re throwing the game for your team.

A Necro out of position like this is prime target for ganking, since they have no outs (especially since you don’t use Wurm or Spectral Walk) and they are the primere anti-sustain DPSers made to screw over Engi and Eles (mostly Ele).

Even people like me in gold and silver won’t waste this opportunity to get a free kill on the most dangerous free caster in sPvP.

Rethink your build maybe, I wouldn’t run Well of Darkness or the Rez Signet at all (is this 2012?!)… and the Well Heal isn’t a better choice over Consume Conditions, since you will need it for the Condi clear.

I have no idea what you want to prove with this, man.

Tell us what role you want to play and we can provide builds and strategies to help you. If you’re only fixated on the frustration of dying too much and blaming it on the game, this will continue to happen.
