Dodge through Shatter if you can… If you can’t, pop invuln or Magnetic Wave and wait for Blurred Frenzy to end (likely to decoy) or when they are casting something like Mirror Blade (invuln into burst before they daze), and unload all your arcane skills, phoenix and lightning flash into air attunement burst. If successful you will get them to pop all their defensive CDs including Decoy and Distortion.

Only redeeming factor in this matchup is you can use your instants while dodging. Try also landing a drive-by Phoenix + LF. Helps pressure immensely. SF can’t live outside of its CDs so you have to manage them and your dodges well.

If he reads you first and distorts/stealths through your burst, gg…
Shatter mes is hard because alone you won’t be able to go through all their stunbreaks for your stun-and-spike and it’s relatively hard to kite in SF and esp. GS mesmer. And Sword Torch is even more annoying.

You have to be rather Yolo and run something like 06206 or 56201 with at least double arcane with arcane lightning trait. You run anything more survivable than that and you have to be in a teamfight (to get peels) or catch them at 50% hp (because if you run LF, Mist, A. Wave you can’t one-shot the mesmer).

I can’t offer you WvW experience with the build, but I’ve played quite a few yolo queue games with Fresh Air. Gotta be really fast on those reflects vs glass power rangers.

I’d take 06044 Cavalier/Hoelbrak with Zerk trinkets. Battle and Doom sigils. S/F is all spike and you rely on landing them and killing things to survive. Once you are out of CDs, you are very vulnerable; when you do have them up, you can basically ignore how much hp you have left and spike while healing/kiting and invulnerable/reflecting.

The reason for not running Evasive Arcana is, stated by Zoose, that you need your 2 dodges because you are (nearly) full glass and you need them. Using EA means that you may use a dodge for utility and only have 1 dodge when you are getting focussed. You can get around EA (somewhat) with 3 in Water.

S/F is very immobile (assisted by positioning and FGS) and also extremely threatening because of your instants, and good players (thieves, warriors, medi guards) will train you. Good thing with roaming groups/teammates is that once an enemy’s CDs are used up, you can come in with a massive CC + Arcane skills + Fire spike and instantly down squishies. You also have one of the most ridiculous downed cleave in the game.

You can choose to bring 2 cantrips (Mist Form helpful, and LF) along with an arcane skill to still retain some instant spike, while buying time with some measure of defensive skill (and Elemental Attunement boons). If you feel manly you can bring Frost Bow.

You can take Arcane Shield in place of Mist Form if you wish, allows you to burst while blocking. Better to trait it and bring along another offensive arcane skill. Arcane Power is not needed because with 6 in Air, and Fury on swap/Pack runes, you have enough Precision to make sure most of your skills crit.

If you are insane, you can try Arcane Brilliance for even more mitestax. If you can’t solve a problem, throw more burst at it until it dies.

I’m no Heidia/Lys/Miss Kysie though (certain there are many more really great players I have had no luck of meeting), might want to ask the actual skilled Eles who do this all day.

Some don’t even take Blasting Staff so that Meteor Shower hits people on small points more consistently. Will be viable for Foefire though.

You don’t need Arcane Blast. You are carrying out the Jihad. Drop that single target skill for Arcane Power (for when you just need that Meteor crit) or Frost Bow just because you can (great for when you must have that downed body cleave). Take Arcane Mastery for your well, Arcane-oriented skills.

Drop Pyromancer’s Alacrity for Burning Fire if you take Brilliance. Else Ether Renewal may be better (healing and stuff good for when you get splash damage. Still doesn’t help with being focussed).

You can put points in Water for Cantrips so you can run away with LF and FGS, but it’s up to you.

Drop Traveler for Pack or Strength. Trust me, makes no difference when Thief decides to train you. Sigil of Battle and Fire/Doom.

Try Blinding Ashes if you are insane/confident and want to 1v1 somewhat with that… build.

D/D Celestial Ele is like Hambow Warrior. High sustain and burning damage along with good direct melee damage after might stacking (~16 stacks). You come into teamfights to do moderate damage and teamfight support. You can also hold your own in side point 1v1s. Usually full cantrips for survivability. The jack of all trades build really.

S/F Zerker Ele is a teamfight build where you rotate to existing fights and spike squishy targets. It is less than viable right now but offers instantaneous, undodgeable damage in your instants, and a heavy, telegraphed spike in your Fire attunement. Mostly ledge for safety (very trainable). Uses arcane skills or frost bow along with one or two cantrips.

Staff Celestial Ele is a bunker spec with very high sustain but predictable rotations and hard to land ground target skills. Has excellent area control but is a different playstyle. Uses arcane brilliance.

Staff Jihad Ele is almost extinct. But they offer insane on-point damage that can even crack bunkers. Full Zerker and usually 6 points each in Fire and Air.

S/D one shot Ele uses Tempest Defense and attempts to down people within one of their long CD control skills. Pretty Yolo. Usually double arcane lightning flash. This is one of those specs that can put out 10k Fire Grabs (assuming you live long enough to stack might…).
I don’t like long combos because they don’t help you with adaptability, but this spec has nothing outside of it and is basically DEPENDENT on your muscle memory, so… here goes.
Example burst: Start in Earth: Barrier -> Cast Barrier -> Earthquake + Lightning Flash -> Fire Swap -> Phoenix + Double Arcane -> Fire Grab + Air Swap + Lightning Strike
You can Earth -> Air (Updraft) -> Fire -> Air but you use up all your CC in one go. Stability and invulns, along with immediate stunbreak + dodge will ruin you.
Need that surprise factor to land your surprise Phoenixes (which can do 12k).

You destroy all projectiles entering the area and fired inside the area.
Necro marks, Guardian symbols can still land inside of it, and non-projectile attacks such as Mesmer Greatsword, Guardian Staff auto, Ranger Longbow Volley, and Frost Bow Volley.
Along with the obvious bow/rifle/pistol projectiles, grenades also tend to fizzle in it.

They are fine. If you get shot in the back that means your awareness is not high enough.
Also, good players learn to adapt. When I Yolo queue in team queue, guardians that duo or are in less-than-5 premades often bring the spirit shield or reflect if he sees rangers. The axebow warrior traits reflect. Mesmers use daze mantra. Thieves just steal.
Rangers specced like this can’t stand on a point, and you can LoS a lot of the time. They are also very vulnerable to conditions and eating their own reflected quickness rapid fire or any sort of spike. They have obvious CDs that you can watch out for. Don’t dodge randomly, save your CDs and dodges for their burst then counter pressure.

They are very much like SF eles and Carrion wells Necros in that they are designed to ledge in teamfights. If they get targeted by two or more they have very little ways to disengage and can be safe stomped easily. If you can’t get them and get shot at 1500 range, that’s half the rangers survivability, in positioning. Develop new strategies, don’t get mad. Anet doesn’t make changes overnight. I also don’t think this was a bad change for the game. I actually think it’s better to have a less condi and bunker oriented game.

You guys should see the ToL2 3rd place match Enhanced Gaming vs 55 Hp Monks. The latter ran double SF ele with frost bow and a signet might stack Pistol Whip thief. Was a blast to watch.

bunker guard is the only class that pretty much never changed in 2 years…and don’t make the mistake of defending points alone, wars (And others) can defend points alone…bunker guardian should always roam to teamfight, if you go for an even tf with guard and they haven’t you already won if you don’t mess everything up. And for god’s sake…just let 1 (one) guy on point holding it and let other mates kite around…when the guy on point is getting low just switch with someone else…example war starts on point with guard and nec outside it being safe from aoes and condispam (And guard staying near nec to help him with stability, protection and stuff…keep in mind necros are weaker on the first teamfight cause they don’t have full ds and you’re gonna face ppl with everything off cd) while war can tank up with stances with not much problems…war gets low with stances on cd..guard goes on point and war kites around healing up with hs waiting for stances being out of cd (And meanwhile protecting necro that is gonna be focused hard always being first target if going with one war and one bunker guard)…rinse and repeat…if you play like this and they just teamfight like mad chickens all standing on point and focusing the guardian you’re gonna win every single teamfight hands down….this is like a really basic way to go, there are way more complicated openings but going like this is gonna be a good start already

Surrender Option

You can turn some fights around… Had a 4v5 today after a disconnect and we managed to keep it around 100 point difference and made a comeback in the end.

If you implement a surrender option it just encourages people to give up because the official option is there… and the matches that you can’t win at all should be over pretty soon anyway.

Sole reason I want a block function on the forums so I never have to read that “r———-” message again. It is a shame you can’t report “immensely annoying” spam.

I find Vee Wee to be a general likeable presence on the forums. The wittiness is better than negative comments about other people. Granted the community here is already rather mild.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion. The trademark aside, what she says is valid and is the correct counter-play.

Entangle can be dodged, if you are out of endurance/didn’t see it, use a condition removal and dodge roll (time between pulse). Next, any AoE Power spec skills or any skills with high enough base damage can clear it quickly. You can also wait for enemies to get closer for two birds with one stone (Phoenix e.g.). Also, FGS whirl and Whirlwind Attack can do maximum damage in this scenario. If you don’t have any of the above, block while immob’d or pop a reflect. If you are in an organised team, get your teammates to peel for you or give you cleanse/burst heal. If you are out of everything and have to stand there and take it, you were outplayed. Rather than just saying that it is OP (maybe it is), reacting to it should be a new reflex to practise on.

Ah, getting hit by Entangle also means to me that I am out of position if I am playing a ranged class (Engi, SF ele etc). I’d try and get better positioning with those professions.

So, Entangle is a somewhat good elite now. Anet please improve other elites too.

YoloQ (solo team queue) is fine… Obviously as you go up to top 200 you face a lot more premades and teams but under 500 it’s alright. Plenty of duos and singles. Also get to train yourself in new specs under pressure situations which will help you improve. Of course, you also have to recognise not all situations are salvageable.

Or, you can meet new people while doing so, someone extends an invite and you get a not-bad pug group that can hold their own until real premades on VOIP shows up. This has been the way before the solo/team queue split and there was only 1 queue.

If YoloQ does drive you insane, then you have the alternatives. SoloQ back to back and set a goal of maybe 20 games played a day, or maybe 10 wins. Then take a break, get out of your chair and do laundry/gym. Or farm hotjoins with your friends. Time passes by quickly when you kill stuff together/kill each other…

+1 on far point. Also advise Cleric Banner Warrior for when sleepy/drunk/high.
Spam chat to get your team to push far and basically rotate there whole match 1v2ing.
Nothing beats Engi for SkyMagNet though.

How a bunker guardian hold a point in spvp?

Guard bunk can roam to support your team. If your team is competent it will always be in your favour if they don’t have one in an even NvN.
Guards can’t eat damage like Warrior Banner Bunkers (yes it’s not very meta). However Guards have Aegis, blocks (Shelter, Shield of Wrath), invuln, blinds, and near permanent vigour with great sustain (Altruistic Healing).
As above, Guardian is all about timing. You avoid damage actively. It’s less about straight up mitigation (Warrior Banners: permanent regen + signet + adrenal health).
I don’t think I’ve eaten 20% of all the Earthshakers thrown on the point because of Guard’s innate blocks and blinds (maybe when sleepy xd).

MM is really strong 1v1 because of the unmitigate-able chip damage (watch out for the immob + bone minion explosion). You also don’t really have the AoE to kill all minions + the survivability to eat all the 1-2ks and death novas. Even then smart ones spread out the CC and weakness/blinds to try and buy time.
It’s a bit like a turret engi and you really have to 1v2 him quick and bring down all the minions, at which point he would be rather helpless with a tanky amulet.

Probably all of sPvP. Would be quite illogical to only implement in Team Queue.
I’m thinking though, people really put a lot of blame on Asuran animations… I would say that the difference in reaction-ability will be minimal.

Impressive that you come to the forums not to complain and whine, but actually with an open mind to ask about these things…

There’s a lot of extra information you can get from minimap and chat; if your teammates don’t utilise them for communication in solo Q/yolo Q, fine, they are missing out – but that doesn’t mean you should follow their practice. You can do better than they do, if not mechanically, then positionally. It is a game, sure, but it is also a competitive one (although not #esports) where winning matters, especially in Player vs Player format.

Don’t get offended by insulting chat. If you take all the shiet seriously, I would start to worry about your ego, because there’s only so much one can take. Blocking people or turning off chat though, is running away from the problem. Face it. Get shiet on, shrug, and say nothing. If it’s not useful or helpful to you, have the mental fortitude to get it out of your head. Focus on getting better.

If you are not in an organised team where everyone calls out important information, you need to compensate with other forms of communication, or informed rotation by looking at teammate health, position, and node possession.

Using chat you can relay things like:
Initial opening (skip boss/temple cross far/forest crossing/steals)
Enemy thief respawn timer
Enemy numbers on node (so roamers can decide if they need to burn skills/break off to arrive faster if say, 3 mid vs you)
Enemy strategy changes from mid vantage point (esp. Guardians)
Helpful reminders for the absent minded (830)

And target-calling on trainable targets, along with map pinging are very helpful.

As a Bunker Guardian you want to be in teamfights to support and hold the point with your heals, condi clear and might stack to help them win. However there are situations taking into account your mobility, the state of the distant teamfight (whether your arrival will help them win), and enemy decappers. Think about what the enemy would do.

The absolute worst is just deciding to leave your home without checking thief position (e.g. thief just on Kyhlo window plinging away and watching your movements) and you get stuck inter-node travelling while thief gets free decap at no cost. (Your thief/roamer should be keeping an eye on it though.)

We’ve all been newbs before (now I’m a noob). It’s not the best idea to stick to one strategy because players think and adapt on the fly.

If your AH bunk Guard is dying like a squishy thief…
Dodge roll more. Spam your boons (within reason) around your teammates and LoS and empower. You’ll find that in the heat of things it’s nearly impossible to die with symbol, dodge heal, and AH ticking all over. Aegis, blind and other blocks and RF are there to improve your sustain. You should also feel like a god with aegis blocks for teammates, instant healing, on-demand protection, and mite stax.

Maybe go watch some Kensuda/Tage?

If you don’t like/can’t play bunker (Guard bunk so guud) you can try Triple Meditation Burst Guard. If you’re doing it right with Trip Med, people should be reeling from ridiculous front-loaded damage, and you should be able to chase with ports and hydromancy and hopefully win. By the way, you either are good/lucky and you win, or you fail hard while getting focussed and die.

Hambows: poison and shortbow. Get off point if fire field; in out with SD. Dodge arcing arrow. Stand at ~600 range and wait for him to switch hammer and use intell + F1. Dodge that. Steal his stab. Reset when he pop zerk stance. Reset when he pop endure pain. Use stun break for Staggering blow. Bait out all his CD and if no inc help for him, DP blind tank his hammer. Backstab when he LB F1 or arcing arrow.

Turret: LoS poison and shortbow his turrets. Blind or evade rifle. Wait for overcharge or pushback; stun break and burst after. Dodge magnet.

AH Guard: just poison and make him use some CDs, soften him up for Necro/Engi/team to bring down. If he goes down, cleave like you lost your wallet.

Necro: any Necro with full LF will shiet on you if you make one mistake. Catch one without death shroud. Stun then blind then fear then interrupt until dead. If you eat Doom, stun break and reset immediately.

PU Mesmer: hang around and poison him. Dodge around, blind some stuff, decap and leave.

Don’t 1v1 as a thief except if you are fighting another. Your job is peel thief off your friends, decap and burst low hp targets.
Be an kitten. Come into existing fights. Daze a key heal, cleave downed, blind stomp, stealth res.

Thief is OP because there is no other zerker class that has its mobility and on demand burst.
Watch magic toker, reikou, caed, collero, sizer, aeroxe, kurotsuki, old jumper gameplay. It’s more running, pick off weak, and decap than 1v1.

You might also feel thief is OP because good thief players watch map and enemy at all times and have to make decisions. There’s only good and bad thieves, while you can have mediocre hambow/D/D ele and still do okay. Playing one well in competitive situations takes mental strength.

If you are doing Mace mainhand, the obvious good choice now is the duelling cavalier/valkyrie Mace Shield GS. It’s very strong 1v1 because 2 full mace stuns + 100 Blades can kill almost anything. However the F1 is very telegraphed.

It’s amazing to me how ignorant people are when it comes to certain things.

Most of you failed to get it. I wasn’t even given a chance to try out just because I’m deaf. That fact alone was ignorance at its finest.

It’s not truth the OP is looking for. It’s not even a discussion. He doesn’t want your unhelpful opinion. The condition for his favourable response is any post with:

Chinaman is apparently a derogative term due to historical usage (and a song I don’t recall).
On the rant, it’s a shallow and racist comment and I feel sorry you have to go through that. However, know that the perceived anonymity and apparent lack of authority online (see GIFT from knowyourmemes) allow people to be apathetic and insensitive, even offensive because of the lack of consequence.
However, don’t let opinions like that affect you. If you take a hit from every slander thrown at you, you won’t live long in this world. If you get shiet on, don’t say anything. You have nothing to prove and nothing to be defensive or hurt about. Also, don’t feed trolls. They thrive on virtual anguish.

The fact remains that players will look at the most practical and effective recruitment methods. If trialling for you takes a different learning curve and extra time they could by statistic have gone through more applicants in the same amount of time.

The other reason is as pointed out, voice comms offer a level of communication not provided in the game itself and allow teams to become highly coordinated and efficient. It just turns out that this is a resource you are not able to utilise.

I won’t be able to feel what you must be feeling right now. You are a competitive player who wants to compete, but maybe these players aren’t for you. Only thing I can say is keep looking.

Maybe when voice to text technology improves, or when anet implements visual support.

I will say that my own experience agrees with Bullet in a PvP setting.

However, I don’t think this mode of advocacy works well in a population where a player’s own belief is held in a high regard due to accumulated experience and where him/herself is not ready for persuasion.

Guardian being a welcomed and accessible class that is inherently forgiving with builds in many game modes means that it does have a lot of players with large build diversity and utility choices (which they vigorously defend).

I’ll just take what Bullet has to say on the matter and think on it and maybe learn something. No need to shiet blood or pop an artery over this guys. If he sounds overbearing, just shrug/give it a try and move on.

Trying to change other people’s opinion is pointless anyway.

Intense PvP here, much damages. Egos flying everywhere.
This could be a bit more civil.

We can’t see things like “No, I don’t agree with your statement. I find Signet of Resolve to be better for my play style. Here is my setup and gear and preferred game mode amongst PvE/WvW/PvP. I have tried both amply in Pv??? and from my experience I find it to be the most effective. Here are some tips to help you pull off a SoR heal to the maximum benefit (eg without poison). While I agree that Shelter may have its uses, I will agree to disagree.”

Bullet Punch is a EU player who has run offensive Guardian setups since he first played. Although during my time in Desolation I didn’t have any direct contact with him, he’s fairly active in the dueling servers and also in team tournaments (which you can watch online easily).

It is a shared common knowledge amongst sPvP regulars that Shelter is by far the better heal in that game mode, because of the 2 main specs that these Guardians are built for: Bunker (in Clerics) and Triple Meditation (Zerker). Both have health below 16k as of the current patch (bunker can be run with Soldiers or Celestial, but have less sustain). Disregarding the variations, there are a few reasons SoR is not optimal in these builds:
1. Low health threshold for SoR. To let SoR do its work, you need to have a health deficit of ~8k to be optimal. For Guardians, it is a dangerous health level, because glass cannon roamers such as D/P Thief can instantly spike a Guardian down.
2. More interruptible. An interrupted SoR with 4s CD while bunkering a mid point vs smart players at around 7k health means almost certain death. Sure, you can protect it with a stability, but that’s one less stability for a stomp. With PvP, the more CDs you can save, the better, because in a teamfight even something coming off CD could turn the fight in your favour. Also, with Shelter you won’t risk getting poisoned by players looking for that huge signet animation and have to waste a shout, or worse two to go through cover condi like sig of spite, or being slow and reducing SoR heal by 33%.
3. Awkward trait placement and long CD. For bunkers it is 01661 and for trip med it is either 26600 06611 21614 or even 01616. For these builds to be optimal, it is not recommended to take signet CD because you can’t really justify that when you lose AH or Pure of Voice/Inner Fire or Powerful Blades or Radiant Fire. Okay, maybe you can do that on Trip Med. But you are paper, and waiting until 6k health to heal is absolute suicide vs good thieves who are adept at bursting low targets. Long CD of 40 seconds: if you are dying and heal is 10 seconds away, dead is dead. Maybe you can stall 30, or even 40 in a big fight. But lower allows more clutch plays.
4. Heal potential. SoR looks delicious with its huge heal and a condi remove, great. But you can be damaged while healing. Shelter scales with the number of attacks it blocks and if you block a S/D Ele or D/P Thief or hambow or burst guard main combo, you just healed for 5k + 10k potential damage. This is even more apparent when multiple enemies focus you. In the same situation, SoR might not even go off (corrupt boon, bountiful theft + sleight of hand, mines, shattered concentration) and you’ll eat the whole burst and possibly die.

This might not be comprehensive and it is of course, only my experience and opinions. But I understand where Bullet is coming from.

Any advise to beat thief?

Try GS/LB 40406 or GS/axe shield 60404. You would probably want the GS in WvW to utilise Warrior mobility. Let the thief use his abilities to catch up to you.
For point fighting in s/tPvP, LB/Hammer 00626 or LB/axe sword or shield 20606 are good choices since there is a larger chance you can hit with slow but powerful LB shots, and one full adrenaline eviscerate or hammer combo could kill the thief if they are not careful.

Ray.3780 is spot on, and if D/P don’t expect the zerker stance, you have a very nice window to burst in. Axe is a great weapon in that it capitalises on such a moment.
For S/D, you can catch them in a big Evicerate right after Flanking Strike. Also, you can hinder their escapability by standing in their white port-back circles.

As a Warrior vs Thief duel goes, you have to be quick. You whiff, you lose options; the thief whiffs, he can reset and try again.

Sharing mine.
On a phone right now so a bit less convenient to link.
Strength/Arms/Discipline:
Short temper (can be death from above, great fortitude), slashing power, berserkers power
Crack shot
Signet mastery (warriors sprint), destruction of the empowered, burst mastery.
Fire and air on GS (rage and accuracy also good inexpensive choices)
Intelligence and battle on Rifle (major sigil of battle is fine)
Hoelbrak or strength or scholars or ogre Runes.
Utilities:
Signet of stamina (your only condi clear), balanced stance (or dolyak), signet of fury (or berserker stance), signet of rage

Play style:
Get into combat with GS, then switch into Rifle, check you have three adrenaline bars, and get a crit on somebody. Usually 8k+ up to some 16k hits. GS used to reposition and keep out of hammer trains. Use hundred blades to cleave downed and get adrenaline for your next shot.
Asurans preferred since they can hide inside people and bushes.
1v1 not recommended.

If you believe in YOLO get banner of discipline, signet of might, and berserker stance for even more lolage. Maybe 25 Might from a friend nearby.

Forgot to mention a key thing in Thief vs Mesmer. Try and dodge Steal since a lot of thieves invest 30 points into it to make it do everything. Use your sword evade or stealth at the right moment or invuln it to gain the upper hand in a fight.
Steal usually is used in BP HS or Larc Strike but of course they can vary it. It’s all about countering counters if you know what I mean.
The best thing to do is to dodge well and correctly since using a cool down for a cool down means that you will run out of options, while nullifying a cool down with a dodge means that over time you will have more options than your enemy (which is what decent players do when they have to handle high tier play). Mesmers have vigor on crit so dodge lots and dodge like a boss.

You can send out iLeap but not port. Most people dodge when they see your iLeap buff icon or the clone coming out. Wait for their dodge to finish and clone to walk towards the enmey, THEN swap and shatter. That’s how you bait. Thieves with Withdraw S/D have more leeway, but if you know it is up, then don’t shatter just yet. Wait for them to close gap to you and use their Flanking Strike/port in and Larcenous Strike. There is a small window to press F1. Also, you can better land your burst if you daze them before you iLeap, since they can’t evade in immob if they are dazed. You use Mirror Image so Daze → iLeap + swap + MI + BF + F1 should land. But if they have Shadowstep up, Daze and Immob and see what they would do. If they come in again, your trait for shatter recharge while under 50% might proc and you can do the combo without any interruptions.

All I’ve said are on paper though. You have to think, what they can do to dodge my burst. Typical thieves have refuge, I can push him out, I need to save GS 5 for that. I see dodge signet, I’ll want to see when he uses it since he gains triple dodge afterwards and I can’t burst. I see infil signet and he’s a bit far away and winding up Flanking, I need to dodge or Sword 2 now. Most would bring Shadowstep, I need to fake a burst setup so that he would use it, then I stand in the port-back circle and wait for him to approach so he can’t use it a second time to get away. If he uses Refuge + Shadowstep, I can blink GS push him out and make him waste 2 utilities. He’s been autoattacking for a while with Dagger now, he might have enough init for BP, I should try and Sword 2 or avoid blind by other means or preemptively Decoy into a Daze to make him waste HS + BP and burst him…. etc etc.

Think about how a thief would use utils against you, and think about what tools you have to force them. There can’t be a set rotation because players are smart and they react to different situations. However, if you do the baiting then you are controlling the fight and you would be able to steer it in a direction that allows it to be more predictable.

I strongly recommend you read supcutie’s mesmer guide and try out all the combos and tips and watch the videos on Shatter Mesmer. By thinking more, you can up your play.

You can stealth then GS 2 + 3 + Shatter. It’s like a backstab. Anything else like a GS 4 iZerk is too big a giveaway.

You can also GS 2 → Blink to enemy midcast → GS 3 + Shatter for some burst.

You can go behind an obstacle and cast iLeap, it will go around to your enemy and it will be more difficult to react. E.g. hide underneath Waterfall in Foefire while someone is on point and send out iLeap.

You can iLeap then swap to GS for a point blank iZerk while immob’d, or GS 2 + 3 + Shatter.

There are lots of Staff 2 locations that allow you to shake off any pursuer, if you use GS/Staff.

Those tanky Warriors are Regen Banner spec’d. They may go full Clerics for heavy burst, or Soldier’s for mixed/conditions. Either way, they have undispellable Regen while a banner is near them (reapply every 3 seconds), and a lot of Stun and Immobilise as well as excellent Burst mitigation through Shield Stance and Defy Pain trait. Banner Warriors have the best build for eating burst so it is very difficult to kill them 1v1 if they know what to dodge.

As a mesmer, easiest build to stack might is to use Strength Runes, Zerker Amulet, and spec 4 4 6 0 0 (Chaotic Interruption) which gives you long 5xMight per interrupt. You can try to interrupt his autos and shatter off his stability and push him out to attempt a decap. If you really want to burst, you need to boonstrip his Regen, get Poison on him somehow, and waste all his CDs until you can get an interrupt → full Shatter in.

However, good ones will Warhorn 4 to remove the Sword Immob and dodge just as you Shatter, and try to put weakness on you and nullify your burst.

I suggest you leave the point if it goes on for more than 30 seconds and you are failing to make a dent, unless a friend is incoming. That friend ideally should be a Necro/Engi which can bombard him with conditions (which the Warrior will have difficulty clearing). Don’t fight on an enemy owned point unless you are very sure you can 1v1 him quickly (e.g. Necro vs Condi Engi, Necro will nearly always win; Hambow vs Necro with little Life Force at start of game, Hambow will nearly always win). If not, help out your team or Portal back to home to defend if someone has gone there. The Warrior is holding you up + gaining points and he is winning.

Swapping to a Bunker-Roamer-Support Guard is a good choice in Solo queue, always. Provided you have decent teammates, you have a shot at winning the game.

Regardless of skill, players shouldn’t diss other players. However, given the anonymity, people turn into complete kittenwads and egomaniacs. Don’t block, it means you can’t deal with what other people spew at you. I just take it and say nothing. You did your part and have nothing to prove.
