Your point is that you didn’t get something you felt entitled to, even though there was no reason to expect that you would get it.
Fascinating. Expecting to play with the revenant by purchasing HoT makes me an entitled player. There was no reason to expect that I would get to play with a revenant if I bought an expansion where the revenant is one of its core, selling features. No reason, right?
You are the only entity that is preventing yourself from being able to play the Revenant. Expecting someone else to resolve that for you is entitled.

Any of those work, and two out of three don’t cost you $10. You can make your own choices and it doesn’t matter to us what choices you make and how you make them, as you have already pointed out
You don’t seem to understand my point. Or, perhaps, you don’t want to understand it.
Your point is that you didn’t get something you felt entitled to, even though there was no reason to expect that you would get it.
But that’s just it, you do get the class with the expansion and no one is forcing you to spend anything beyond the $50.
Then tell me, what must I do to be able to play with a Revenant without having to pay an additional cost (be it with real money, massive farming or character deletion)?

HoT Standard Edition with partial access to Revenant: $50
HoT Standard Edition with garanteed access to Revenant: $60GW2 launches with 5 slots and 8 professions. World does not end.
HoT adds a profession but not a slot. World ends.
You’ve either lived without having every class in your stable for 3 years, learned to wipe a character and free up a slot when you wanted to try something new, or you’ve bought more character slots in the past. Which is it, and why have you lost that ability all of a sudden?
What I have done with my paid account is personal and irrelevant to this issue.
If I buy a product that advertises a new class as one of its key features, and then I’m forced to churn $10 more to play with that class, then that will feel like a scam and leave a bad taste in my mouth. I haven’t got what I’ve paid for. There’s nothing else to understand here. Anet can do what they want, they are free to treat their costumers the way they want, and that’s what we are talking about; not about what or how I’ve filled character slots that I’ve paid for in the original purchase of this game.
But that’s just it, you do get the class with the expansion and no one is forcing you to spend anything beyond the $50.
They aren’t required to do anything, just as any game company isn’t required to compensate you when they release a “game of the year edition” 3 years later with all the dlc for less than the cost of the original vanilla game.
The Standard and Deluxe editions will always be available and upgradeable, similar to the current structure.
Couldn’t tell you when the Ultimate edition will be done, but it will go away.

They write FAQS for a reason. There will be boxed copies of the standard and deluxe versions available starting June 23rd. The ultimate edition is only available via digital download.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The base game is included “free” and the price reflects the actual cost of the expansion. Compared to any other mmo this is fairly standard pricing for an expansion.
ANet told potential HoT customers they would need to own the base game to be able to play HoT. This is no longer true.
This is still 100% true, that is why the base game is included with the HoT pre-purchase options.
I’ve only experience a month or slightly more? I consider myself to be a newbie veteran. I purchased the core thinking it was needed. I was misled and lied to. It’s not a matter of being greedy. I also see that older veterans who bought the game will need to spend more than just $50 to experience the expansion in full. Either that, or they grind madly for that character slot. Is it fair older players needs to pay $60 instead of $50?
Not sure if anyone told you this yet, but open a support ticket. I don’t know what the cutoff date is but they will work with you to either refund or upgrade to a pre-purchase option.

I’m not sure without clarification from the OP, but it sounds like they are comparing it to the five attributes available to GW1 classes. In which case that is almost exactly what we are getting with two differences.
1. You choose 3 “branches” instead of allocating points.
2. You choose multiple bonuses instead of getting a single, flat bonus applied to affected skill types.
While ANet did use some of the GW stat names for GW2 trait/specialization lines, GW2 specs will be much more derivative of standard MMO traits/talents than anything in GW. Oh, and 8 of 10 GW classes had 4 stats, not 5. The only ones with 5 were Warrior and Elementalist.
You missed the entire point….
Regardless of whether names are the same or whether you have 4 or 5 choices available, the point is that you can make multiple choices from a pool.
I think the op wants 3 branches with 3 choices in each core specializations

Also keep in mind that I am one of those players who likes to do everything, from jumping puzzles to wvw to pve to pvp.
This sentence invalidates your entire arguement. If you are “one of those players who likes to do everything” then just do it and stop complaining.
It wouldn’t be the golden carrot then would it? Full ascended armor increases your stats like 1-2%. Ascended weapons are worth the coin, I argue if armor is.
next patch asc armor will increase stats by 10%
Not quite, all equipment stats will increase by ~30%
The gap between exotic and ascended will increase from 5% to 10%
Attributes on all equipment is being increased by ~30%

Stop ignoring the core problem, Anet promised progress by different means -level & skill points by WvW, PvE or sPvP – they won’t be keeping their word in the expansion if they don’t provide another way to obtain hero points.
They never promised skill points in new locations, they promised new progression e.g. the mastery system. As far as I’m concerned they kept their word on that part.

^ This MMORPG in particular was advertised as progression grind-free.
The devs said in an interview less than 3 months ago that they didn’t want to invalidate past progress.
So yeah I’d like to keep my unlocked skills and avoid doing more than 2 times the total # of skill points available in the entire game to have my characters back to where they are now, tyvm.
It’s only about 1/3 of the total number available…. or 65 out of 220….

Thanks Phys for writing that post and saving me the trouble. For those who don’t feel like reading I’ll sum it up.
Stop judging new systems based entirely wrong information.
The launching of the expansion announcement was simply VERY dishonest leaving us hanging all these months. It should´ve been revealed at the NOW imminent E3.
It wasn’t dishonest at all, they are still releasing the expansion last I heard.
@diovid – it’s been anounced all over the place that Anet will be at E3…
I made that post a month ago though
You’re right my bad

I 100% disagree, the only suggestion on here that isn’t a crafting ingredient or item that you need to interact with is influence, and that belongs to your guild, not your individual account. Even the Black Lion chests/scraps/tickets are items for a reason as opposed to a currency.
There was more info this week, we know the core specs are coming out soon, along with a rebuilt Lion’s Arch. They also gave us much more information on the condition changes that are coming up, plus the wallet changes which included a lot of information on what is happening to Scrolls of Knowledge, Tomes of Knowledge, and Writs of Experience as well as progression after 80.
Here you go:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/updating-your-wallet/Lots of details on the skill point item conversion.
Good job Anet, way to save me sourcing work!
You’ll still be able to obtain “skill points” using the scrolls from bags. They’ll also be adding them in other places to compensate for the change.
Where do you get that info?
Sorry I don’t have links on hand but they did mention any current repeatable source of scrolls of knowledge will be changed to provide the new mystic forge currency. They also said they would introduce new sources to compensate for the removal of skill points on level up when they first revealed the mastery system.
They did say this summer a few weeka back in a video.
However, things seem not to be ready at all. They are going to release trait changes before HoT, they haven’t even introduced all the elite specs (not even half), Stronghold seems to be still in a testing phase. I don’t know. Imo, they shouldn’t have announced the xpack so early when they can’t keep the hype up nor give us any information. They said they would be releasing elite specs every week, now they have stopped. I honestly have no idea what they’re doing.
They only said they would release three elite specs, then they were going to take a break.
“Also, in 2015, NCsoft is expected to roll out an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2, which
has sold more than 3mn copies since its release in 2012 in the US and Europe. We
assumed in our 2015 earnings estimates Guild Wars 2 expansion pack sales of around
2mn copies (US$50 per copy), and note that the expansion packs for Guild Wars 1 have
sold almost as much as the original game in the year of their release. "Source: http://www.kdbdw.com/bbs/download/192028.pdf?attachmentId=192028
Considering this and the reveal rates, the game will be launched between september to december and cost ~50 US dollars
Daewoo has made the same prediction for 2014 and 2013. They have proven every report that they are wrong. The moment they don’t predict an expansion, I think it is a good omen it is near.
This is nothing against Daewoo. They are advicing potential investors. Those people don’t care bout an expansionpack. They just look at how profitable an investment in ncsoft is and if they do invest they are happy if that profit has been reached. As Daewoo is predicting that well, thier audiance is happy, but pls stop seeing those reports as any indication to what direction this game is taking at all!
This, exactly this. There is no weight to this report as its said the exact same thing every year. They would have predicted an increase in quarter 3 even if Anet had outright said there will be no expansion in 2015.
Ok throwing a prediction into the ring. This update will be 07/21. Unless they start to do 2 reveals a week then I would say 07/07. I don’t think they would release the week before 07/04 since they might have staff heading out for vacation which means if its not in next week then it will probably be after the holiday. Unless they are going to skip the rest of the reveals which would give the marketing team grey hair if they did. Hope I am wrong and it is next week mind you.
This isn’t attached to the elite specialization reveals, this is just the new specialization system and the 5 core specializations (current trait lines) so there is no reason to wait for the rest of the elite specializations to be revealed
Indeed. Those things you list are among the “number of other factors” I mentioned. But with the amount of crying wolf that third party predictor has been doing, you’re not going to find many people happy to see that old tired financial prediction used as a “see look this is when!” support.
Thanks Donari, you hit the nail on the head. It could just as easily come out 4th quarter as 3rd quarter this. While I’m in the camp that says it will come out end of summer (maybe August 28th?) the unfortunate truth is that it will be released when it’s ready. Just because they are planning on a summer release (as per the developer meeting) doesn’t mean a catastrophic issue won’t come up and push it back a few months. We have a lot of info that has been revealed so far but twice as much that hasn’t been. Some core changes (eg engineer traits) aren’t even set in stone yet.
So while they may have a plan and a timeline, it’s still up in the air at this time.
All we know is: 1) “when it’s ready” and 2) 2015.
A lot of people are expecting a release on august 28th (based on pretty much nothing).
You sure about the 2015 thing? I don’t think I’ve read anywhere that Anet has said that.
Their projected earnings for Q3 of 2015 were almost 5x greater than any other quarter surrounding it. This would be indicative of the expansion being released in Q3.
Please stop bringin this up like it’s fact, it’s old and baseless information that has been copied over every year since GW2 was released. It’s not even provided by Anet, it’s a third party.
Honestly I think it’s just because they are still try to conform to the format everyone is used to. With each line being “all or nothing” there isn’t a reason to even have minor traits anymore. They could just as easily say “by choosing this specialization you can x, y, and z” instead of splitting them into three minors.
I think the reason why they are still tiered is due to lvl-up experience.
I’m not sure, but I think new characters will gradually be able to go deeper in each spec the more they lvl and spend their hero points on it, reaching each tier in different lvls.
That’s the only reason I can see why they kept tiers…
That’s a good point, that makes much more sense then to keep them separated out. I’m kind of disappointed I didn’t think about that….

I believe that they also heal any allies that come in contact with them. The second minor just makes it possible to use them on yourself instead of only being able to heal allies.
Don’t they always follow up with a stream on Fridays? People were all BLEH over Dragonhunter until they saw the video. Just because you’re not excited doesn’t mean others aren’t. //shrugs
That’s correct, and they already stated they would be featuring it this Friday
This is still almost a year old and put together buy a third party, not NCSoft. It has already been posted and dismissed dozens of times in this forum and even once in this thread…

First, if you made this optional, that would spread players even more. The maps would literally be empty because as much as you already hate, there will be people who like it just as much.
Second all of your examples failed… I don’t see any jumping puzzles or PvE bosses, I see launch pads, lava that you can walk on if you control the fire shrines (no jumping), bridges made out of Asurans launch pads, and keep lords.
It’s a little late for this, for example the shadow greatsword skin doubled in price immediately after the reveal. And thing that will change, has changed

It will be interesting to see how they tackle the Revenant elite spec. On one side, the revealed specs all come with a full set of skills from a single existing type. On the other hand though, the Revenant core specs don’t affect skill types so much as they affect the legends. I’m leaning towards them simply getting a new legend as opposed to a new set of a specific skill type.
What do you think about their profession mechanic change though? I think it will be related to energy as opposed to legend swapping. For example maybe we trade starting at 50% energy on swap for a faster regen speed or gain 100% energy on swap but have little to no regen.

I seriously hope thieves don’t get rifle because if they did they’d have more ranged weapon skills than melee
Engineers have almost exclusively ranged skills
I will be sad if warriors get it, they already have a huge amount of CC negating abilities and besides, they are far to obvious a choice. With the way specs have been going I would say anyone could get it.
Maybe collecting new skins for the specs?
Anyone can make a placeholder, chances are that neither of those are accurate. Until Anet releases info I would just assume all dates/prices are wrong
Anet has already stated it will not be available to purchase with gems. Whether it becomes available as an option later is hard to say, but at least at first everyone will have to purchase it without gems.

I would say you are close then, 70% – 80% should be enough just based on the numbers we have
Many folk in other threads are saying 100% map completion is necessary to unlock the elite traits.
We can’t know that until we know they release how many points the elite specs will cost, but we can guess based on numbers we do know.
Each core spec will cost 60 points
Each skill line will cost 35 points
All core lines cost a total of 465 points to unlock
Currently there are 620 total points available (400 from leveling + 220 from current challenges)
465 (all core) + 60 (elite traits) + 35 (elite skills) = 560
So you will not need 100% completion bur it will be fairly close. Granted this assumes the elite specialization and skills costs the same as the current core ones do. We also don’t know how many points will be added with the new region in HoT
I would just like to point out once again, Dragonhunters don’t need to be unique in all of Tyria, they only need to be unique when compared to Guardians. Sure other people hunt dragons and their* associated minions, but actively seeking/pursuing an enemy is not the traditional Guardian way.
So while other professions and groups also hunt dragons, the Dragonhunter is a name given by Guardians to other Guardians who deviate from their traditional role.
*edit spelling….
(edited by Ranatoa.4869)
As it stands currently you need 465 hero points to unlock all of the core skills and traits again (no word yet on numbers needed for elite specs)
You will get 400 points simply from leveling to 80, leaving 65 more that you need to get from the hero challenges (previously skill point challenges)
With 60% map completion you will have plenty to unlock the core (current) skills and traits. You will also have extra to spend on the elite, but they have not said how many we will need for that.
As for knowing the source of skill points? They don’t need to know where you got them. They can just add 400 (from leveling) + the number of hero challenges you have completed and the refund anything above that amount.
It will be essentially the same as having 3 trait lines maxed (6/6/0/6/0) while being locked into only 3 lines (no 2/2/2/4/2)
Also, under the current system, it makes the elite spec more of a meaningful choice. As new ones release it will not just be trait lines and utilities, but choosing which weapons to use since you will only be able to slot a single elite spec at a time.
